Another reason of the many to like Strikeforce more than the UFC. They let their fighters fight in other promotions rather than signing your life away with the UFC

Good card would like to see it if these things werent on at 3am

Ludo

Yeah, the problem with that is it can prove more hassle than it's worth. Case in point: Overeem and the Heavyweight title. two years between title defenses and it left Strikeforce in the lurch. Yes it has been substantiated that he was in fact injured during the time in which he was supposed to be fighting in Strikeforce, but I cannot help but wonder if he would have been injured had he not been competing in K-1 and Dream instead.

Also, imagine what would happen to the belts already limited credibility if Overeem had lost outside Strikeforce. All of a sudden the belt means nothing because the Champion lost outside the organization.

All of a sudden the belt means nothing

It's a good point, but I don't think that particular belt has meant anything for a while now.

Ludo
06-29-2010, 12:40 AM
I know that, but you get the point. You can substitute it with the Light Heavyweight, Middleweight, Welterweight, or Lightweight belt for added effect. It's a generous business practice but in the long run thats alot of variables to account for when it comes to your champions.

True. I kind of see it as: smaller promotions helping each other out so that they can all compete better with the evil UFC empire. The difference between the way Dream, Sengoku, and Strikeforce treat each other and the way the UFC treats rival top promotions is amazing.

It's a good point about the belt meaning something. I mean, how much of a champion does Zaromskis look like now after getting knocked out twice in a row in another promotion?

zY|

Cardspace is the major reason for copromoting. Dream is just happy to get these guys fights so they'll stfu while dream is off sucking it's own cock.

Same with Strikeforce.

Meh. Probably couldn't have hoped for much more from Dream. Considering that Barnett's fighting elsewhere and I doubt they're bringing in Aleks.

They tried bringing in Aleks but he wouldn't sign for the fight unless Overeem agreed to take a dive ::thumbup::

Trainer: Overeem out of DREAM.15

::handshake::

Reports surfaced online late Tuesday evening that Alistair Overeem vs. Ricco Rodriguez was all but signed for the DREAM.15 card on July 10.

However, a source close to Overeem told MMA Fighting that the fight isn't close to being official and that there is a "90%" chance that Overeem won't be fighting on the card altogether.

In addition, Overeem's trainer, Martijn de Jong, told The Fight Show's Mauro Ranallo Wednesday afternoon that Overeem is "definitely not" fighting Rodriguez at DREAM.15.

The trainer added that Overeem is currently in Sweden, and his camp will officially decide whether he will fight on the card Friday.

On the flip side, DREAM officials and Rodriguez's camp have informed MMA Fighting that contracts have been sent out and that both camps have verbally agreed to the fight.

There was talk at one time of having Overeem fight Andrei Arlovski, Ikuhisa Minowa or Tim Sylvia at DREAM.15, but those plans all fell through for different reasons. It appears as though matchmaking is one of the major hurdles affecting the Strikeforce heavyweight champion's participation on the card.

Of course, this is Japan, and as we all know by now, things can change on a dime when it comes to DREAM matchmaking.

.5u to win 1.6u on O Brien. I don't think O Brien has much less trouble taking Mousasi down as King Mo did, given his size advantage.

zY|
07-08-2010, 10:22 PM
Obrien is not even On the same planet as Mo in terms of wrestling. Mo was internationally ranked and was extremely close to going to Beijing and likely medalling, while Obrien was going 14-18 one season in the NCAA. On top of that, this is DREAM. Even if Obrien gets takedowns at will, he has no offense from the top and Mousasi will win a decision off his back.

I never said O Brien was anywhere near Mo in wrestling skills, I just don't think Mousasi's takedown defense is great and I doubt it's grown in leaps and bounds since he fought Mo. This is another classic example of the eastern European Kickboxer vs the American Wrestler.

Round 1: O'Brien immediately shoots in, leaving his head fully exposed. Mousasi briefly falls down, grabs the guillotine that's been waiting for him, stands back up and gets the tap. Pretty sure I saw Mousasi shrug afterward.

Gegard Mousasi (29-3-1) def. Jake O'Brien (13-4) via submission (guillotine choke) R1, 0:31

This is really funny to me. I have got to see this.

I haven't seen the fight, but the ring is a big factor in Aokis success. Even if he can't get takedowns it's far easier to trap a guy in the corner and pull guard.

I can win a Japanese event... I always pick the guy that is taking a dive. I have always said about 50% of Japanese MMA is fixed. I still maintain that the entire SuperHulk Tourney was a work

Havis Jr
07-14-2010, 01:29 PM
The underground forums have a fighter posting there who had trained with jake and he basically said jake hadn't been training for like 3 months and was working 2 jobs, he took the fight solely for money. Maybe not a dive, but he definitely didn't have his head in the fight and I'm sure the Dream big wigs wanted it that way.

SO many ways to fix fights in JMMA with the arbitrary standups, resets in the middle of the ring, judging criteria like rewarding fighter who is "trying to finish"(whatever that means), and selective matchmaking. ehh im staying away in the future.
