Wednesday’s Streaking and Slumping Starting Pitchers

Streaking

Felix Hernandez (5-5, 3.28), Seattle Mariners

Since getting roughed up by the rowdy Rangers on June 8, King Felix has been perched high atop his throne.

Hernandez has tossed complete games in his last two starts, giving up two and one earned run respectively. He worked 8.2 innings in a 4-2 win over the Padres in the outing prior. Over those three starts, Hernandez struck out 26 hitters while walking only three.

“He has turned into one of the true No. 1s on a major league staff,” Padres manager Bud Black said after Hernandez held his team to four hits.

The UNDER is 4-0-2 in Hernandez’s last six starts and opposing offenses are averaging 2.5 runs per game.

Slumping

Kevin Slowey (7-5, 4.79), Minnesota Twins

After a five-game tear that spanned from mid-May to June 8, Slowey is slowly started to fall off the wagon.

The Twins right-hander has surrendered no less than five runs in each of his last three outings. Slowey yielded five home runs and 17 earned runs during that stretch (12.1 innings) while striking out 10. Slowey suffered the shortest game of his career in the start before last. The Phillies touched him up for two homers and seven earned runs in 1.2 innings on the hill.

“I think everybody in this clubhouse is frustrated,” Slowey said. “We’re disappointed and frustrated and we know we’re better than this and that goes for me, too.”

Returning

Jair Jurrjens (0-3, 6.38), Atlanta Braves

Kenshin Kawakami was moved to the bullpen to make room for Jair Jurrjens, who has been on the disabled list since April 30 with a strained hamstring.

In 2009, Jurrjens was one of Atlanta’s top pitchers. He compiled a 14-10 record with a flashy 2.60 ERA and 1.21 WHIP. In his first start of 2010, the righty pitched shutout ball over 5.0 innings against the Cubs. But in four starts after, Jurrjens gave up eight, three, three and three earned runs.

Jurrjens will likely be on a tight pitch count Wednesday and the Braves are priced as -175 favorites against the visiting Nationals.

Debuting

Barry Enright (0-0, 0.00) Arizona Diamondbacks

The D-Backs called up Barry Enright from Double-A Mobile to start Wednesday’s game against the Cardinals. In 15 starts at the minor-league level (93.2 innings), Enright is 4-1 with 2.88 ERA, 83 strikeouts and 15 walks.

The 24-year-old Enright is taking the place of Edwin Jackson, whose start was pushed back to Friday after throwing 149 pitches during his no-hitter last week. If he pitches well enough, Enright could snatch a spot in the rotation from the struggling Dontrelle Willis.

Wednesday Afternoon Tips
By Kevin Rogers

The final day of June provides bettors with plenty of afternoon action, including four games involving both teams in playoff contention. The NL West showcases its top four teams playing getaway day games, including the Giants hosting the Dodgers and the Padres entertaining the Rockies. We'll start first in Cincinnati with Dusty Baker's red-hot club trying to close out the Phillies.

Phillies at Reds - 12:35 PM EST

Cincinnati has slowly reclaimed the offense that it lost it Seattle, as the Reds are averaging 5.5 runs/game in a 6-1 run that has put them atop the NL Central. The Phillies' offense has been resurrected after a cold streak at the end of May, but Philadelphia needs to leap-frog a pair of teams in the NL East.

Roy Halladay's (9-6, 2.29 ERA) record may not look as sterling as you would expect with his ERA, as the Phillies' ace is coming off seven innings of scoreless baseball against his ex-mates in a 7-0 shutout of Toronto. Halladay has actually put up better numbers on the road, compiling a 5-2 mark on the highway to go along with an ERA of 2.09. The last time the righty faced the Reds was in 2008 as a member of the Jays, as Toronto tagged Halladay for five runs in a 6-5 road win.

The Reds counter with Aaron Harang (6-7, 5.07 ERA), who has been the model of inconsistency this season. Harang, who finished 16-6 in 2007, has won just 18 games over the last three seasons combined. The tall right-hander is coming off consecutive quality starts, even though it came against Cleveland and Seattle. Harang has actually pitched well against this Philadelphia club, beating the Phillies twice last season by allowing four earned wins in the two victories.

Cincinnati is 7-3 the last ten home day games, while cashing the 'under' in four straight day games overall. The Phillies have lost five of their previous seven road games under the sun, which includes a 1-1 mark over the weekend against the Jays in mythical away games at Citizens Bank Park.

Tigers at Twins - 1:10 PM EST

Minnesota is going backwards quickly inside the AL Central after dropping the series opener to Detroit on Monday night, 7-5. That marks the sixth loss in seven games for Ron Gardenhire's team, who is in a three-horse race with the Tigers and White Sox in the division. Kevin Slowey looks to stop the bleeding for Minnesota, but he's going to have to fix his woes if the Twins want to win.

Slowey (7-5, 4.79 ERA) has allowed 17 earned runs in his last three starts, which totals to an ERA of 12.41. Somehow, the Twins managed to win one of those games, rallying from five runs down in the ninth inning to shock the Phillies, 13-10 in extra innings. Slowey has always been a great control pitcher, issuing only 17 walks in 14 starts. The good news is that's not his problem; instead, Slowey is getting knocked all over the diamond by allowing at least six hits in eight of his last ten outings.

Rookie Andrew Oliver (0-1, 3.00 ERA) makes his second start, after falling in his debut at Atlanta, 3-1. The ex-Oklahoma State southpaw showed promise by delivering six innings of five-hit ball, but the Tigers' bats did little against Kris Medlen and the Braves. Oliver faces a Minnesota club that has been ruthless at home against left-handed starters, compiling a 7-2 mark at Target Field versus southpaws.

The Twins own a perfect 4-0 day record at home against left-handers, but are just 2-5 at Target Field in the third game of a series. The Tigers are 1-4 the last five matinees on the road, after starting the season 6-3 in this situation.

Rockies at Padres - 3:35 PM EST

Colorado drew first blood with a 10-6 victory on Monday night as Ubaldo Jimenez captured his league-leading 14th win of the season. The Rockies are now 5-2 against the leaders of the NL West, as the Padres try to hold onto the lead inside the division.

A pair of left-handers takes the mound at Petco Park as Jeff Francis and Clayton Richard square off. Francis (2-2, 3.53 ERA) has been a welcome return to the pitching staff after missing the entire 2009 season due to left shoulder surgery. The British Columbia native is coming off three straight quality starts, despite receiving credit for only one win (Colorado won all three games). Francis has been involved in five one-run games out of eight starts, while six outings have finished 'under' the total.

Richard (5-4, 2.75 ERA) won for the first time in four starts in a 3-0 victory at Florida last Friday. The ex-White Sox lefty has been the victim of poor run support, with the Padres providing less than three runs an outing for Richard. The Padres are 1-3 in Richard's last four home starts, as San Diego fell to a pair of AL cellar-dwellers in the Orioles and Mariners his last two outings. The Rockies have beaten Richard twice this season, including a 6-5 extra-innings win back in early May at Petco Park.

Colorado has won five of its past six matinee contests on the road, while seven of its last 11 day games on the highway have finished 'under' the total. The Padres have claimed four of six home games under the sun, but all four wins have come against below .500 teams.

Dodgers at Giants - 3:45 PM EST

San Francisco plays its final home game prior to the All-Star Break, as the Giants hit the road for a three-city, 11-game trip following Wednesday's matchup with Los Angeles. The Dodgers bounced back from Sunday's meltdown to the Yankees by knocking off the Giants in the series opener, 4-2.

Jonathan Sanchez (6-5, 3.03 ERA) hasn't been particularly sharp recently, allowing five earned runs and nine walks in his last two starts (8 IP). The Giants have won five of the southpaw's last six starts, despite only two of those outings being quality ones. The Dodgers beat Sanchez in four of five games last season, as the lefty didn't last past the fifth inning in any start.

Veteran Vicente Padilla (1-2, 5.82 ERA) is winless since coming off the disabled list on June 19, falling to the Red Sox and Yankees in one-run setbacks. Padilla is coming off a strong outing against New York, giving up six hits and two earned runs in seven innings, but the Dodgers provided little run support in a 2-1 defeat. Padilla limited the Giants four hits and three earned runs in seven innings of a 10-8 victory at Chavez Ravine back in April.

The Dodgers are 9-4 the last 13 meetings with the Giants, including the series victory in Los Angeles in April. San Francisco is 6-2 the previous eight day games at AT&T Park, while going 6-1 the last seven Game 3's at home.

BIG AL

Rangers @ Angels
PICK: Under 9.5
When I saw that the Rangers were calling up a minor leaguer by the name of Omar Beltre to start this game my initial reaction was that Texas had gone to the well to bring up yet another in a long line of talented, YOUNG pitchers. But when I looked up Beltre's history I saw that he's been in the minors leagues since he was 18 years old and that was 10 years ago! He's had stints at just about every level, including three seasons playing for the Rangers in the Dominican Summer League. The 28-year-old Dominican also has suspicious gaps in his professional resume, having missed every third year of professional ball since 2000. But the reality is that he's actually a talented OLDER player. And the gaps in his resume were mainly due (I presume) to the reason he's not made an appearance in the Majors: He actually was banned from the USA for five years after getting caught up in a human trafficking ring in the Dominican Republic! But Beltre's now past that penalty, and the Rangers look like they have a solid talent. So, with both Rich Harden and Derek Holland still on the DL, the Rangers needed another starter tonight and Beltre gets the call. Unfortunately, despite the ripe age and the pro-ball experience that comes with it, Beltre couldn't win a single game at AAA this year (0-5), despite 15 appearances and five starts. But his ERA was a solid 1.25 in those five starts, so the skills are there. Angels' lefthander Scott Kazmir looked like he had turned things around when June came as the veteran southpaw pitched very well to start the month and won his first four starts before taking a step backward in his last outing on June 24 in inter-league play against the Dodgers. But Kazmir has a very good history against Texas (6-2 with a 2.37 ERA with 75 strikeouts in 68 innings) so he's an excellent candidate to bounce back tonight against the biggest rival in the division. Take the 'Under.'

Marc Lawrence

Texas Rangers at Los Angeles Angels
Prediction: Texas Rangers

Game Two of this three game division showdown series takes place Wednesday evening when the Rangers meet Scott Kazmir and the Angels in Ahaheim. Kazmir - who has not lasted more than seven innings in any start this season, and only once in his last 60 starts - is 0-3 with an 8.36 ERA in his last three home team starts. With the Rangers one of a few teams that is hitting the cover of the ball, we'll back them against the shaky favorite here tonight. We recommend a 1-unit play on Texas.

BRETT ATKINS

Tonight, I have a free winner coming on the Angels as they host the Rangers in this A.L. West matchup.

Texas is sending out Omar Beltre for his first career start, and he’s going up against the team right behind the Rangers in the A.L. West standings – the Angels. Scott Kazmir is on the hill for Los Angeles and he was showing his dominating form for four straight starts, but got off track a bit on Thursday against the Dodgers. In his four prior to that one, he did not allow a team more than two runs and got the Angels four straight wins. Against the Rangers, Kazmir has held them to three runs or less in nine of the last 10 outings and his teams have won eight of those 10 times he’s faced Texas. The Angels are on several hot streaks, including 21-8 overall, 8-2 against the division and 6-2 at home. Texas struggles against elite teams, going just 2-8 against teams with winning records.
I’m going with the home team Angels to get this one and move a little closer in the standings.

5? L.A. ANGELS (on a 1? to 5?)

Chris Jordan, Featured Handicapper

This is the rubber match between the American League Central Division rivals, and my money is on the home team after seeing its bats come alive in yesterday’s 11-4 rout at Target Field.Though the Twins have hit the skids lately, Denard Span has been peppering the ball lately, going 9-for-20 with eight RBI over his last five games. And the good news is, he is a .403 lifetime hitter against Motown pitchers.
I know Kevin Slowey has been roughed up lately, going 0-2 with a 12.41 ERA in his last three starts, but he’s 4-0 in six starts against Detroit.I’d rather side with the veteran Slowey, rather than Andy Oliver, who is making just his second career start in this game.

1? MINNESOTA (Listing Slowey and Oliver)

Karl Garrett, Featured Handicapper

Boston loses Pedroia and Martinez, and they still come out last night and take care of the fading Tampa Bay Rays!
The G-Man will continue to go against the Rays tonight, as Garza and Matsuzaka take the mound at Fenway Park this evening.
Boston's Matsuzaka is 2-0 in the month of June, and has allowed just 5 runs in his 20 innings this month. I expect Dice-K to give the Sox 7 quality innings tonight.Tampa Bay comes in to this game having lost their last pair of games, and they have been on the losing end in 6 of their last 8 games overall. The Rays appear to have lost their way, and starter Matt Garza is just 1-2 the last 3 times he has faced Boston.
Tampa's slide continues tonight, G-Man on the Red Sox to add to the Rays woes.

2? BOSTON

Bobby Maxwell, Featured Handicapper

I scored the FREE winner on Tuesday with the Angels at home over the Rangers to improve my comp record to 115-99-3. Tonight I'm adding another winner to the total with the Red Sox as they'll take care of the Rays at home.
The Rays look like they are imploding, fighting among themselves in the dugout and just not winning many baseball games right now. They’ve dropped nine of their last 12 and they’re not going to beat the Red Sox tonight at Fenway. Play Boston with Daisuke Matsuzaka on the hill in this one.Matsuzaka is rounding into form, leading the Red Sox to wins in each of his last three starts and posting a 2.29 ERA in those three games. He hasn’t allowed an opponent more than three runs in any of his last five starts and he beat the Rockies last time out. He hasn’t seen the Rays this season and only saw them once in his injured year last season. But in 2008 he got three straight wins against them, including a playoff win.Matt Garza (8-5, 4.10 ERA) is on the hill for the Rays, and he’s got a whopping 8.40 ERA in his last three starts. He’s allowed three runs or more in six straight outings and his last roadie he allowed seven runs on seven hits in 1.1 innings in Miami against the Marlins. He pitched against these Sox on May 26 and gave up six runs in five innings of an 11-3 loss.
The Red Sox are 54-20 in the last 74 meetings with the Rays at Fenway and they are on further runs of 36-17 overall, 7-1 against A.L. East teams, 20-6 against right-handed starters and 20-7 as a favorite. Plus, with Matsuzaka on the hill, they are 42-17 overall, 23-9 when he gets five days off and 35-16 as a favorite. Meanwhile, the Rays are on slides of 1-5 on the road, 0-5 as a road ‘dog and 1-4 when Garza starts on the highway. I’m going with the home team in this one as the Red Sox have won four straight over the Rays and they’ll make it five tonight with Matsuzaka on the hill.

20* Underdog Game of the Month

Colorado Rockies

The Padres aren't getting any better offensively, ranked 13th in the NL in runs scored, third worst in on base percentage. San Diego starter Clayton Richard has been a little hefty with walks, allowing 37 on the season in 95 innings, and 9 his last three starts (19 innings). He faces a Colorado offense that has been hot this month. They scored 10 runs in the opener of this series in a win, the fourth time in nine games they scored 8 or more. Lefty Jeff Francis is very good, with a 3.53 ERA for the season despite throwing half his games in Coors Field, plus he has a 3.66 ERA his last three starts. Richard of the Padres has faced the Rockies twice already this season and is winless with a 4.50 ERA, walking 8 in 12 innings, plus 21 base runners in those 12 innings, so he's not fooling Colorado. An excellent spot for the hot visitors. Play the Rockies.

Detroit Tigers vs. Minnesota Twins (MLB) - Jun 30, 2010 1:10 PM EDT
Play: Point Spread: 1.5/-144 Detroit Tigers Pick Title:
FREE PLAY

Detroit and Minnesota wrap up their series on Wednesday afternoon in Minnesota. The Tigers will send Andy Oliver to the hill for his second career start. First time out, he gave up two runs and five hits in six innings of work against the Braves. Oliver struck out four and walked one in that loss. Minnesota is only 14-12 against lefties this season, and also just 13-15 in daytime games. The Twins are in bad current form as well as they have just two wins in their last eight games. Minnesota’s Kevin Slowey is 0-2 with a 12.40 ERA in his last three starts. The righty has given up 18 runs and 22 hits in 12.3 innings of work. Slowey is 4-0 with a 5.93 ERA in six career starts against Detroit, but he got a fortunate win in a less than solid effort earlier this season against the Tigers. In that one run victory, he gave up three runs and seven hits in 5.7 innings of work. Miguel Cabrera (4-13), Johnny Damon (4-12), Carlos Guillen (3-7), Ramon Santiago (2-5), Brennan Bosch (2-3), Austin Jackson (1-3), and Alex Avila (1-2) all hit Slowey well. Detroit is 22-11 in the daytime averaging almost five runs per game. They have won two of their last three games, and we expect another solid effort here and recommend taking the Tigers on the run line in today’s game with the Twins.

WUNDERDOG (MLB)

Game: Detroit at Minnesota (1:10 PM Eastern)
Pick: Minnesota -160 (moneyline)
The Detroit Tigers have struggled all season long on the road and, with starting a rookie pitcher against a Minnesota team that is tough at home, is a monumental task. Kevin Slowey almost always delivers a well pitched game at home and as a result the Twins are 21-6 in his last 27 starts at home. The Tigers have been at their worst playing on the road as a dog where they are just 19-41 over their last 60 in this spot. They have also begun to struggle against righthand pitching at just 1-6 in their last seven. The Twins have eaten up lefthand pitching and have now put together a 39-15 mark against them at home. A tough spot for a rookie.
I'll go with the Twins here.

INSIDER ANGLES

WEDNESDAY MLB: WHITE SOX vs. ROYALS

Most of the time, a total of 7.5 is considered to be low for an American League game, but we feel that reaching this normally easily attainable total will be a tall order Wednesday when Jake Peavy of the Chicago White Sox faces reining Cy Young Winner Zack Greinke and the Kansas City Royals.

Greinke may be an inexplicable 3-8 this season, but he still has a 3.72 ERA and 1.19 WHIP, so his poor record is a direct result of the Royals not giving him any runs. He is approaching his Cy Young form lately, as he has a 2.62 ERA and a miniscule 0.83 WHIP in his last three starts allowing only 18 hits while recording 23 strikeouts against just two walks in 24 innings.
Believe it or not, Peavy has been even better than Greinke as of late, as he is finally paying some dividends for the White Sox after being a disappointment since being acquired from the San Diego Padres last year in mid-season. Peavy has tossed 16 scoreless innings in his last two starts while allowing just six total hits with 16 strikeouts and four walks. He has also allowed a total of four runs and 18 hits in 30 innings over his last four outings.

As if the offenses will not have a hard enough time with these two elite starters that are both on top of their game, both bullpens have also been in peak form recently, so the batters will not get much of a breather late in the game. The White Sox bullpen has a 2.31 ERA over the last 10 games while the Kansas City pen has a 2.39 ERA over this same span.

Not surprisingly then, both clubs are on nice Under runs, with the Under going 8-2 in the last 10 White Sox games and 6-1 in the last seven Kansas City contests. Look for that Under pattern to continue for at least one more game here.

MLB Wednesday Pick: White Sox, Royals Under 7.

Date: 6.30.10 at 7:10PM
Game: Tampa Bay Rays at Boston Red Sox

Current Line: Boston (-107)

Over/Under: 9.5

Play On: Boston (-107)

Inside the Board Room:
Boston is within a game of first place in the AL East and they have a good shot at getting there tonite with Daisuke Matsuzaka on the hill. The Sox are 9-3 in their last 12 and 3-0 in the last 3 the starts by Matsuzaka, who has posted a terrific 2.29 ERA in those games. The Rays seem to be going in the opposite direction, losing 7 of thier last 10. Even Garza has not been able to stop the bleeding, with an ERA over 8 in his last three starts.
Take the Red Sox tonight

GC MLB Totals play for Wednesday

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

On Wednesday the free MLB Totals play is on the under in the Chicago at Kansas City game. Rotation numbers 927/28 at 8:10 eastern. This game fits an under system that pertains to short home favorites like KC that are off a 1 run home dog losses, vs opponents that are off a road favored win, if both teams scored 4 or less runs. These two teams can be anemic on offense. This year 4 of the 5 games here have played under the total. Tonight's game pits a pair of starters who have been pitching real well of late. J. Peavy makes the start for the Whitesox. Over his last 3 starts Peavy has a 0.78 era and has been moving the ball around much better than he was earlier in the year. KC Counters with Z. Greinke. Greinke has started to pick it up as well and he has a solid 2.62 era over his past few starts. Look for a low scoring game her tonight. On Wednesday I have the MLB Dog of the year. For the free play tonight, take the under in the Whitesox at Royals game. BOL GC

Take #930. Take Over 9.5 between Texas Rangers vs. Los Angeles Angels (Wednesday @ 10:05pm est).

3 of 4 winning MLB Days

May MLB: 20-10 (66%): +$2590

Thanks for patience and faith in me. I had a dip last week after four straight winning weeks. I am working as hard as I can to ensure profits for my clients. Let's have a great rest of the summer.

Its not often I take an over, but I believe we have a good opportunity of hitting this today. Texas is still one of the hottest teams in the league winning 8 of their last 10 games. This is a divisin battle between these two teams. Texas comes off a loss yesterday and I expect them to bounce-back against Kazmir. Kaz does come off a tough start against the Dodgers so he will look to bounce-back. Having said that, the Rangers usually put up a decent amount of runs when they come off a loss such as yesterday. For example, they lost to Houston a while back and then put up seven runs the next day. Kaz has pitched brilliantly on the road, but at home, he has struggled including giving up five runs against Seatlte at home in his most recent start. Manager Washington for Texas is rolling with Omar Beltre today. He noted that he had been pitching well in Oklahoma City and wanted to give him an opportunity. Nevertheless, whenever a newbie comes into the league, he usually has a honeymoon period for the first time he faces the lineup. I expect the Angels, the next time through the lineup from the fourth through sixth innings to be one in which the Angels will put up a decent amount of runs. The over is 8-2 when the Rangers are road underdogs and as noted, Kaz has gone Over to a tune of 5-0-1 in his last six home starts.

6/30/2010 At 2:20 pm, our selection is on the Pittsburgh Pirates and Chicago Cubs 'under' the total. With yet another meltdown of starter Carlos Zambrano, the Cubs are once again shuffling their rotation and one of the beneficiaries will be lefthanded veteran Tom Gorzelanny who will move back into the rotation for this start. It's somewhat appropriate that Gorzo's first start since being relegated to relief duty at the end of May would come against the Pirates as they are the team that traded him to Chicago at the deadline last season. But Gorzelanny deserves this start for more reasons than just the psychological problems of Zambrano or the series against the Pirates. The fact is that the southpaw has been very effective since moving into the bullpen and in fact for the entire month of June, Gorzelanny has only given up one earned run on three hits in six relief appearances spanning 6 1/3 innings. Pittsburgh will turn to righthander Brad Lincoln for his fifth start of the season this afternoon. Lincoln is still searching for his first win of the season but he gets to face a team that is having serious problems scoring runs right now. In fact in their last eight games, the Cubs have only plated more than three runs on one occasion and they have scored either 0 or 1 run in five of their last ten. With the 3-1 Cubs victory on Tuesday, the under is now 7-2 in the last nine games played between these two in Chicago. NL Central Total of the Month on the 'under.' As always, good luck...Al McMordie.

Guaranteed Pick: Larry Ness

Game: Los Angeles Dodgers at San Francisco Giants Jun 30 2010 3:45PM
Prediction: San Francisco Giants
Reason: My 10* NL Game of the Month is on the SF Giants at 3:35 ET.
The Dodgers 'limped' into this three-game series with the Giants having lost 10 of 12 interleague games from June 11 through June 27. The last of those losses came Sunday night, when they blew a 6-2 ninth-inning lead in an 8-6 loss (10 innings). However, the Dodgers have posted consecutive 4-2 wins on Monday and Tuesday and this afternoon will go for their first sweep at San Francisco since July of 2007. As for the Giants, they have now lost four in a row, all at home. The starting pitchers for Wednesday's game are Vincente Padilla for LA and Jonathan Sanchez for the Giants. The Rangers were happy to get rid of Padilla last season but he was a pleasant surprise for the Dodgers down the stretch. He was 4-0 with a 3.20 ERA in seven starts (team was 6-1) and then was terrific in his first three postseason starts, going 2-0 with an 0.93 ERA (20-2 KW ratio) in three LA wins. However, he did get bombed in his fourth start, allowing six ERs in just four innings of a 10-4 loss. That being said, Padilla was LA's Opening Day starter in 2010 but in four April starts was just 1-1 with a 6.65 ERA (team was 1-3). He was placed on the 15-day DL on April 25 with a sore right forearm and spent almost two months "on the shelf." He was activated on June 19 and has made two starts. He allowed five hits and four ERs (5.1 IP) in a 5-4 loss at Boston (no decision for Padilla) and six hits and two ERs (7 IP) in a 2-1 loss to the Yankees. He's got a solid history vs the Giants (5-2 with a 2.95 ERA in nine career starts / teams are 6-3), including going 4-0 with a 2.36 ERA in five career starts at AT&T Park. However, I really like the Giants to avoid the sweep in this one. Yes, they've lost their last four home games but they are still 25-16 at home this season, allowing opponents a miniscule 2.98 RPG. San Francisco is the LONE team in MLB to hold opponents to less than 3.0 RPG in its home park. Opposing Padilla will be Jonathan Sanchez, who has allowed three ERs or less in 13 of his 15 starts this year. He owns a 3.03 ERA on the season, including going 4-1 with a 3.09 ERA over his last six starts (team is 5-1). He's 5-2 with a 2.62 ERA in eight home starts this year (team is 6-2) and the lone negative is his 0-4 all-time mark vs the Dodgers (6.13 ERA) in eight starts (team is 2-6). However, Sanchez has shown himself to be a MUCH different pitcher this year. His turnaround began after he threw MLB's most unlikely no-hitter of the 2009 season last year vs the Padres on July 11 (had just recently been recalled from a banishment to the bullpen for poor efforts) and pitched decently for the better part of the second half of last season. Again, he's allowed three ERs or less in 13 of his 15 starts, owns a 3.03 ERA and has allowed just 65 hits in 89 innings this season! In his first start of 2010 against the hated-Dodgers, Sanchez "comes up BIG!"

Good luck...Larry

World's Greatest Sports Betting Systems" - 6/30
I wish I could comment on this system since I study some of the ones that seem to have a little merit but this one seems to get little or no talk on the different forums.

A 6 game chase where you are doubling 2.1 on each loss is really gonna get expensive on the money line, of course, even when going for a small gain.

Most systems stop at a 3 or 4 game chase but the 1 eventual loss will pretty much wipe you out so its hard to get excited about them unless you just want to gamble. More and more people are using a 'labby' line" or Labourche instead of the traditional chase but profits usually just trickle in, unless a large bankroll, so it is more of an ROI way of investment.

I am surprized that even 2 game chases which hit at a good win % are even hard to make work sometimes.

O.Beltre is making his first start, think he gets into trouble. S.Kazmir has been HORRIBLE. At home he's 2-3 with an ERA of 6.84 and a WHIP of 1.64! In night games he's 4-6 with an ERA of 6.23 and a WHIP of 1.71! This should have no trouble reaching double-digits.

I know this is similar to the Morrison system and what not, just curious if anyone knows how well this is doing? Playing up to 6 series in a chase system seems pretty damn risky? ::swifty::

Any background on this would be great thanks guys and BOL today!!!

Awesome insight, thats along the lines that I am thinking at. It seems they profit more than don't but it's a really risky LONG term ride. One overall loss is going to dry you up and it leaves little room to play other picks unless your ballin

Atlanta Braves -1.5

Washington got a rare road win last night against the Braves so tonight I expect Atlanta to be focused and ready to avenge that unexpected loss. Jurrjens has struggled a bit this season but he usually did so when facing respectable oppenents. He is definitely the better pitcher in this matchup. The Braves will win with ease tonight. Take Atlanta -1.5.

Mike Hook | MLB ML - Wednesday, Jun 30 2010 8:10PM
ML 928 KAN (-115) SportBet vs 927 CWS single-dime bet

Analysis: The Kansas City Royals -115 is the 1 Unit Buried Treasure for Wednesday, June 30th!

I can't ignore the value on the Royals tonight. I think we have one of the very best pitchers in the game pitching at home against a pitcher facing a unique scenario.

Jake Peavy has already beaten the Royals twice this year. I've always like fading a pitcher going for his 3rd consecutive win in 1 season against a team. No doubt Jake Peavy has been dominant when facing the Royals this year, AND he's in good form currently. These last 2 statements are why this line is low to begin with. However, as great as Chicago has been of late, one must realize they came out as the listed UNDERDOG to the "lowly" Kansas City Royals.

Taking a step back and looking at the big picture makes me believe that the oddsmakers have set a strong line favoring the Royals. After capping this game, I completely agree. Say what you want about the White Sox and their recent form, but tonight I think we have the better overall offense and the better starting pitcher. To get this small line with Zack on the mound is VALUE.

The Royals -115 is the 1 Unit Buried Treasure for tonight!

The Rays are in a downtrend --3-0-- and likely to keep falling here; after all, Garza has struggled in his last three road starts and that doesn't bode well vs a BoSox lineup that is rallying despite a series of injuries to key players. Moreover, TB is a money burning 4-17 on the road with Garza when the total' is set at 9 to 10'; on the other hand, the BoSox are 19-7 with the same 'total" at home with Matsuzaka. And hard to fade Matsuzaka at home when the BoSox are 42-17 at home when he starts.

2* Mariners / Yankees Over 7.5

In Game Two, we'll be looking for a 'higher-than-anticipated' scoring outcome as the Mariners take on the Yankees in Game Two of their series. And with ANGEL HERNANDEZ behind the dish, we're riding a "Man in Blue' that's gone 11-3-2 O/U so far in the 2010 season (10.3 total runs per game). Better still.... Hernandez has gone a PERFECT 7-0-2 O/U in his last 9 games since early May (11.3 RPG). That falls right into line with last year's results, when he went 30-19 O/U overall. And his numbers in American League parks (14-7 O/U) are even stronger. He's also gone 3-1-1 O/U in Mariner games the last 2 years and 3-0-1 O/U in Yankee games. He's already worked one Felix Hernandez start THIS year... and there were 14 runs scored in that game.

With yesterday's Game One going 'OVER the Total'... the series has now gone 7-1 O/U in the last 8 games played in the Big Apple.

For Mariner starter Felix Hernandez, his pitch counts have been alarmingly HIGH as of late. He's gone 105 or MORE pitches in EACH of his last nine starts. And his last three starts have seen 117... 116... and 128 pitches. One has to wonder what's left in the tank... especially against a very disciplined hitting team like the Yankees... who draw a lot of walks and extra baserunners. Not to mention, Hernandez has a career ERA of over 5.00 against the Bronx Bombers in the last 4 seasons.

His counterpart (Javier Vazquez) has an ERA of 5.00 vs the Mariners in the last 3 seasons.... and has gone 4-0 O/U in his last 4 starts when the OU line is 7 to 8.5 runs

Matchup: Oakland at Baltimore
Time: 7:05 PM EDT (Wed)
Listed pitchers must go: (R) SHEETS, B vs. (R) MILWOOD, K

Play: Baltimore (ML +111)

The Orioles saw their longest winning streak of the entire season come to a close with the Tuesday loss to the A's. But I'm going to give Baltimore a good chance to right back in the win column tonight. Ben Sheets has been a virtual auto-fade on the road, where he's saddled with an ugly 0-5, 6.95 ledger. On the flip side, Kevin Millwood finally has a little wind in his sails after nailing back to back wins. Oakland is a weak road entry and even though the A's are on their own four-game run right now, I don't see that streak getting extended here. Millwood and the Orioles look like the right side to me and since they're catching plus money at home for this contest, I'll back the Birds to notch the victory.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Matchup: Texas at L.A. Angels
Time: 10:05 PM EDT (Wed)
Listed pitchers must go: (R) BELTRE, Omar vs. (L) KAZMIR, S

Play: Texas (ML +115)

Another debut here as Omar Beltre tosses for Texas. Don't be misled by Beltre's 0-5 ledger at Oklahoma City He's pitched a whole lot better than that and has been the victim of some lousy luck. Beltre does not figure to go deep in this game, but I like his chances of stifling the Halos for about five innings, and I'll rely on the Texas bullpen from there. You never know which Scott Kazmir will show up, but I tend to believe the daunting Rangers offense can do some damage here. I'll go for the underdog odds and play the Rangers.
