3u on Taylor

I don't think Watson's going to have much for him. He won't be able to defend the takedown and once he's on the mat he won't have the submission skills to threaten Taylor.

I also think Ford will win, but I'm not taking him at that line.

Taylor would be great if -200 or lower, I think -290 is too steep. But best of luck.

Watson's only chance to win, I think, is a KO. Maybe a freak sub, but Taylor hung in there for a round and a half with Bustamante before the odd ending to that fight, so I really doubt Watson--predominantly a striker--will be able to catch him with anything.

I don't think Watson would get his KO 1 time in 4. Taylor has actually NEVER been knocked out . . . all losses are by sub. So 1 in 5 is probably a little more like it, if that, so I think there's still value in the line.

Antonio McKee(c) vs. Luciano Azevedo

I kinda like Azevedo +260 as a dog in this fight. Its a 5 rounder, that's a long time to not get subbed. Antonio's nick name is Mr. Decision and has only been subbed once, but the dude is 40 years old. Anyone else think Azevedo has a good chance here?

Lima could sub Ford. Lima is a decent prospect who just need to round out his game... I think he has value, but most likely Ford will overpower him.

Is there anyone worth betting on this card? I'm too lazy to figure out who all these guys are. I only know Mandingo and Taylor.

A few of us have money on Taylor, myself included.

Watson is an English striker with limited ground skills. He's not terrible in the grappling department, from what I've seen, but Taylor will outwrestle him all day long and Watson is not good enough to exploit Taylor's poor sub defense. The only out I see for Watson is a KO and I doubt it stays on the feet long enough for him to get it. And even if it does, Taylor has never been KOd.

You guys are probably right, but I watched Watson's win over Horwich and that scared me off.

I think that Taylor's and Horwich's wrestling are two very different types. Taylor using stifling, powerful top control. He's a big strong guy. The only reason guys beat him is because he leaves openings to get subbed. Horwich is not that kind of grappler at all. Also, seeing Taylor go a round and a half with Bustamante and not get subbed and technically win that fight did a lot for me to suggest that Taylor has at least improved his sub defense. I mean, surely he's been working on that.

I think the theory is that Hutcherson is weak on the ground and Heath will be able to put him there. Still, Heath isn't all that great and I agree with you that the line isn't justified.

He went straight across the throat, Hadaka Jime syle... that works on a lot of guys, but you some guys can withstand the pain... since it doesn't hit the carotid, you usually won't go out.

Well, some guys can't take a punch... but Metcalf has the shooting style that would translate to MMA (IMO). Some really great wrestlers don't take to submissions either. So even though he might be a bad matchup for Gray, he probably would never get through the gamut of strikers and submission guys to get to that level. I see it the same way as a lot of boxers... I think there were a lot of boxers that would whup guys like Chuck in his prime (assuming he stood with them, which I think he would have in his prime)... but they would never get to earn a crack at Chuck because they would never survive the gamut of wrestlers to get to him. Chuck was the best striker with takedown defense. Gray (right now) is the best wrestler with submission and striking defense.

I honestly think a guy like Metcalf could show up tomorrow and give Gray a run for his money... but he would probably never beat Nate Diaz.

SPX, it does hurt like a mother, but if you dont panic you realize that it is mostly pain. If you have large muscles in the front of your neck, the adam's apple cant really be crushed past that point, without using the thumbs to press it in further... so it is really just pain/panic. Interesting. I have had it done to me and I didn't want it to go any further than it did because I felt I would be permanently injured if that were the case.

Truth be told, the neck muscle/paini thing is what I have been told by my teachers... personally, I think you could easily crush the windpipe with the wrist deep version like Fedor does. But I can also see how having teh forearm all the way across like JT did would not give you enough leverage to crush it.

But yeah, I don't rally have any desire to test my instructor's theory. Someone does that to me, I am tapping.

BUt if you push in on your own throat, you will feel that there comes a stop point, and if your neck muscles protrude past that point... I don't really see how you could crush it without some very specific pressure.

I remember hearing something about police departments changing their training to shift away from the "bar-arm choke" with the forearm across the front and towards the RNC style choke with the elbow under the chin, under the belief that the bar-arm choke could damage the windpipe.
