New Orleans -5

The last 10 years the Super Bowl Champion has gone 10-0 SU and 7-2-1 ATS to open the season defendng their title, and since 2003 the home team is a perfect 7-0 SU in the Thursday night season opener. The last six seasons the reigning champion has hosted this Thursday night game, going 4-1-1 ATS. Overall, Thursday night NFL games have been biased towards the home squad, who have gone 30-9-2 ATS over the last 6 years.

Saints HC Payton reportedly took the team thru their walkthru in the SuperDome yesterday which included a diming of the lights and private unfurling of their Super Bowl Championship banner in the hope of lessening the emotional impact it may have had for this evenings game when it is again lowered for the Saints faithful to enjoy.

Looking for Brees to lead the Saints to their 1st win of the year and kick off what I hope is a fantastic season of gridiron action.

Buffalo +3
Buffalo +140 ML

Great trends out there to play on Div favorites of 3 or less (Divisional favorites of 3 points or less are 15-3 SU & 14-3-1 ATS (82%) in Week 1 since 2000) and I hate to try to buck it here.... However... Miami is garnering a good deal of love from folks this weekend, and something about this line smells off to me. I think Linesmakers could easily had this game at 4-5 points and still had a significant edge on Miami money over the Bills, who has very little expected of them this year. The Fish are 3-7 as fave of 3 or less points since ’04, and over the last 2 years Buffalo has gone 5-2 SU and ATS in September (losses to NE and NO) so they have shown the ability to come out of the gates ready. Buffalo has won their last 5 true home games against Miami (loss in Toronto in 2008). Looking for the Bills to get out front early, they are 14-3 ATS vs the 1st Half line at home in the first 2 weeks since 1992)

Steelers ML +105

Steelers at home to open the year as dog? Gimme the home team with the steel curtain defense. This will be the first time they are pups at home since 2004, I really like their chances to to knock Matt Ryan around, Steeler offense shouldn't need a lot points on the board to secure the win, 20 points should be enough here, and Dixon should be up to the task.

Tennessee -6

West to East travel for the Raiders who make the trip already banged up at the skill positions, and are just 1-4 ATS their last 5 NFL season openers. Titans are 6-2 ATS L8 week 1 games, and after last years 0-6 SU start to the year, the Titans should come out focused on the Raiders and the opportunity to build on the 8-2 SU run to end the year after their horrendous start. Tennessee needs to start strong, knowing they are tied with the leagues toughest schedule this year (tied w/ houston), and Fisher is too good a coach IMO to let them look past the Raiders.
