4 Unit Play. #122 Take Detroit Lions -3 over St. Louis Rams (Sunday 1 pm Fox)

The Lions find themselves winless on the season and the Rams are 2-2, yet Detroit is around a field goal favorite in this matchup. How can that be? Well, for starters the Lions have played a brutal schedule to open the 2010 season with three divisional games coming on the road. They played well in all three of those games and many people feel that they beat the Bears in Week 1, but the process of completing the catch was not fully completed by WR Calvin Johnson. The Rams have shown improvement under QB Sam Bradford, but they have not won three straight games since 2006. The Lions will have revenge on their minds after losing to St. Louis last season, 17-10. In fact, that was the Rams only victory on the season. The Lions need a win to put to bed all doubts of another winless season, and it will come this afternoon at Ford Field. The strength of schedule between these two teams is wide and, thus, Detroit will pull away late to win this game by double digits. St. Louis is 2-5 ATS in their last seven games as an underdog of less than three points.

DETROIT LIONS 28, ST. LOUIS RAMS 17

5 Unit Play. #133 Take San Diego Chargers -6 over Oakland Raiders (Sunday 4:15 pm CBS) We went against the Raiders as our top play last week and will continue to ride that ship this week when they host the San Diego Chargers. The Raiders still do not have a quarterback and retread Bruce Gradkowski is not the long-term answer for this franchise. The Chargers have stumbled out of the gates once again and cannot afford a slip-up in this game since they are two games behind Kansas City in the loss column. In the Chargers two wins this season, they have come by an average of 28 points per game. The Chargers have won 13 straight games versus the Raiders and laying this small of wood is too good to pass up. The Raiders are 15-36 ATS in their last 51 home games. The Chargers are 24-11 (4 pushes) ATS in their last 39 AFC West games. Play the visitor and double your money yet again.

SAN DIEGO CHARGERS 31, OAKLAND RAIDERS 17

4 Unit Play.#136 Take San Francisco 49ers -3 over Philadelphia Eagles (Sunday 8:20 pm NBC) The 49ers have yet to win a game in 2010, but they still have a great chance to win the NFC West since nobody has run away with the division. San Francisco has played three road games in their first four games of 2010 and despite being 0-4, they are 2-2 ATS. QB Michael Vick is out and that leaves QB Kevin Kolb to take the reins and he has not shown anything during his limited regular season action. This will be Philadelphia'sthird road game in four weeks and making a cross country flight will eventually catch up with them. The 49ers still have a solid defense and the Eagles defense is not what it once was during their runs to the NFC Championship Games. The Eagles are just 1-6 ATS in their last 7 games. San Francisco is 4-0 (1 push) ATS in their last five home games. San Francisco gets healthy at home and we collect big in the process as well.

The Chiefs have been a wonderful story so far but lets look at a few things. They beat the Chargers opening week in bad weather, the Browns with their backup Qb wallace, and then beat the 49ers with Alex Smith enough said. This is Peyton Manning who can make even the great defenses look bad. After the Colts first loss, they came out sharp and killed the Giants 38-14. The Chiefs are #18 total offense. The colts are #3. The colts are #2 passing team the chiefs are #27. The Chiefs are very limited on offense and if the running game is not great here then I see no way of them getting the win or cover. The Colts were very good after their first loss and now coming back home after another tough loss last week. I expect them to be sharp once again. Colts 31 chiefs 14

This is my NFL Game of the Month and it is from the 99 System. (Also from the 411 System.)

I think that people are really overlooking this Denver team. Kyle Orton has set an NFL record for most passing yards in the first four games of the season. Yes, Kyle Orton! He is playing great football right now and he is using all of the weapons that the Broncos have in the passing game. The Broncos managed a tough win in Tennessee last week and that proves that they can go on the road and get a 'W'. I don't know if they will win this week. But I do know that they are going to play well against the Ravens. Baltimore is in a perfect letdown spot. They beat rival Pittsburgh last week and now they come home to an overinflated line against an underrated team. This is Handicapping 101. Baltimore hasn't beaten a team by more than a TD all year. They blew out Denver last year 30-7 and I think that they will take them lightly. But in Year 2 of Josh McDaniels' systems this isn't the same Broncos team.


4-Unit Play. Take #435 Philadelphia (+3.5) over San Francisco (8 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 10)
This play is from the 99 System.

Right now a lot of people are jumping on San Francisco. Why? The 49ers are 0-4 for a reason and they are still one of the most overrated teams in the league. Everyone keeps waiting for them to turn it around but I don't think that it is coming. I don't think that the Eagles lose that much going from Vick to Kolb. This isn't like a normal team going from its starter to its backup. Remember, Kolb was the starter out of camp. And I think that Kolb could still be better than San Fran's Alex Smith.


4-Unit Play. Take #419 Atlanta (-3) over Cleveland (1 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 10)
This play is from the 99 System.

Cleveland beat us last week but the 99 System has us going against them again. Just because they have played well as big underdogs against some division rivals over the last two weeks doesn't mean that they are a good team. And the Falcons were almost good enough to go into Pittsburgh and get a win. So I think they can get one here. Cleveland is due for a letdown this week and I wonder how sharp they are going to be. The more they play Seneca Wallace the closer Wallace will get to reverting back to his backup status.


3-Unit Play. Take #428 Houston (-3) over New York Giants (1 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 10)
This Play is from the 99 System.

Houston is coming off another blowout win over Oakland and to this point they have passed just about every test. The Texans' one loss was to a very desperate Dallas team but they still played decently in that game. The Giants were demolished when they went to Indianapolis this year and they are just 2-8 ATS when they play against a team with a winning record. The Giants are also just 1-4 ATS as an underdog and 1-5 ATS after a win. Houston's offense is one of the most versatile in the league. They will have Andre Johnson back this week and I don't think that the Giants have anyone in the secondary that can slow him down. Houston wins this one big.


2-Unit Play. Take #413 Jacksonville (-1) over Buffalo (1 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 10)
Buffalo is horrible! This team has not been competitive in three of the four games that they have played this year. And even though the score was close in the New England game there was never any doubt who was going to win that one. The Bills just traded Marshawn Lynch, they dropped their starting QB two weeks ago, and they have no real direction as to what they are doing. The Jaguars are in a little letdown spot after beating Indy. But the Jags have wins over the Colts and Broncos this week. That is more impressive than anything on Buffalo's resume. The road team is 5-2 ATS in the last seven meetings and the Bills are just 3-12 ATS in their last 15 home games.


2.5-Unit Play. Take #429 New Orleans (-6.5) over Arizona (4 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 10)
The Super Bowl champions haven't covered a spread yet this year. I think that will change this week. Arizona is going to undrafted rookie QB Max Hall. It is a lot to ask for him to come in and be competitive against the defending champions. New Orleans is 5-1 ATS in the last six meetings in this series. And last year in the playoffs they blew the Cards out by 31 points. That was a much better Arizona team. This week the Saints won't win by 31. But they will win by at least two touchdowns.

Giants are coming of a smacking of the Chicago Bears last Sunday. Over all on the season the Giants offense has been very incosistent and today will be on the road versus a team who they really don't know. Houston imploys a zone-blocking running scheme that the Giants don't really play against and certainly won't get the 10 sacks that they got last week versus the Bears. They will be facing a very potent offense so they will have little margin for error. This season the Giants’ defense has allowed a lot of yards and points to offenses they have faced who have a tendency to gain big yard and score a lot of points. Houston has scored over 30 twice, and over 40 as well this season.

I'm not going to sit here and sugar coat either one of these teams. They're both in the bottom 3rd of the NFL, and have issues up and down their rosters. That being said, this is an excellent spot to play the Bills, who come in not only with some match up advantages, but also a couple situational edges that can't be ignored.







Let's start with the match ups, and while at first glance you might think the Jaguars have an edge, you have to account for David Garrard's inability to play on the road. He's averaged 55 fewer yards per game, and has twice as many interceptions as touchdowns when in hostile territory. Honestly, I don't know of another quarterback that has such a split personality depending on the venue. You are not going to see the same quarterback you saw last week against the Colts - trust me.







While most bettors are talking about Maurice Jones-Drew vs the Bills defense, I happen to like Fred Jackson versus the Jaguars run D even more. With Lynch now gone to Seattle, the Bills can concentrate on giving their most talented back the carries he deserves. We'll see some CJ Spiller sprinkled in, but I'm telling you the reason why Lynch was so expendable, was that the Bills know what they have in Jackson. Buffalo does give up more yards on the ground, but they've had success limiting Jones-Drew in the past. On the flip side, the Jags D-line simply cannot stop the run, surrendering 5.0 yards/carry this season.

Bills on the other hand, have some talent in the secondary (Byrd, Whitner, and McKelvin), and only allow 208 passing yards per game on the season.







The final and most critical factors in this contest are the situational edges the Bills enjoy in this spot. The first and most obvious is the tremendous letdown factor for the Jaguars following a hugely emotional divisional win over the Colts last week. That win has the public falling in love with the Jaguars in this match up, but there's a reason why the 0-4 Bills are favored here! Look for a major letdown - starting with Garrard - to be the Jags downfall today. Secondly, the Bills are going into their bye week, so that means two things: They can go "balls to the wall" this week knowing their getting some time off. And, they will do anything they can to avoid going into the bye 0-5... This team is desperate, and they couldn't have asked for a better match up (or situation) than the Jags, on the road, off a huge win. Lay it with the Bills over the Jaguars Sunday.
