CAROLINA

Game: Edmonton Oilers vs. Carolina Hurricanes Game Time: 11/9/2010 7:05:00 PM Prediction: Carolina Hurricanes Reason: I'm playing on CAROLINA. Both teams won their last game. The Oilers earned a road upset at Chicago on Sunday. The previous day, playing with 'revenge' from a loss at Florida, the Hurricanes earned a home win over the Panthers. I had the Canes in that one and I feel that this should be another good spot to back them. The Oilers are a proud franchise and typically play hard. Give them credit for winning at Chicago. That said, they don't have anywhere near the type of talent that they had back in their "glory days" and road wins aren't likely to be that frequent this season. Even with that victory, they're still 2-4 away from Edmonton. They've been outscored by a 3.7 to 3.3 margin those games while getting outshot by a 36.3 to 27.2 count. Overall, they're just 4-8. The Canes have been better. They're 7-7 overall including 2-2 here at Raleigh. While the Oilers allow 3.7 goals on the road, the Canes allow just 2.5 here at home. Looking back a bit further and we find that the Canes are a respectable 37-28 (+3.5) their last 65 home games with an O/U line of 5.5. During that stretch, the Oilers were a money-burning 27-46 (-7) when playing a road game with a total of 5.5. Keep in mind that this team went 2-22 (2-20-2) in its final 24 road games last season. It should also be noted that this is the second time that the Oilers won at Chicago recently. After doing so the first time, they followed it up with a loss in their next game. Even their coach Tom Renney acknowledged: "We're definitely a work in progress..." After their last win, Canes captain Eric Staal noted: "That was a better effort from everybody. We wanted to respond the right way and we did." I expect Staal and co. to follow it up with another two points here. *8

BIG AL's 56-25 ATS NBA ROADKILL WINNER!
Nets At 7:05 pm, our selection is on the New Jersey Nets minus the points over Cleveland as we will fade the Cavaliers, who come into Tuesday's game off back to back upset wins. Last Friday, the Cavs went into Philly and upset the Sixers 123-116, as 5-point dogs. And then, last Saturday, they downed the Wizards 107-102 as 5-point dogs. Unfortunately for the Cavs, road dogs off back-to-back 5-point upset road wins are a poor 25-56 ATS since 1990! The Nets got off to a 2-0 start this with wins over Detroit and Sacramento, but have dropped four straight, largely due to playing Miami (twice) and Orlando in three of those four defeats. But the Cavaliers are nowhere near as good as those two clubs, and New Jersey will get back on the winning track today. Lay the points with New Jersey.
