Jeff Benton WEDNESDAY'S ACTION

50 Dime NBA selection on the Houston Rockets as a road favarite at Washington. As of 7:30 a.m. West Coast time, the Rockets were lalying between 3 and 3½ points. I have to believe because the Wizards are a squad the public likes to fade that this line will only go up, so I advise you to jump on Houston as early as possible so you don’t get carght taking a bad number.

ROCKETS

Don’t be fooled by Houston’s 1-5 record. This is a playoff-caliber basketball team and that will be proven over the course of the season. It’s just the Rockets have A) faced an incredibly daunting schedule so far, and B) have been the recipiants of some bad luck.

Houston opened the season at the defending-champion Lakers, and after sitting through the Lakers’ ring ceremony and banner-raising, the Rockets went out and gave the two-time defending champs all they could handle before coming up just short in a 112-110 loss. The very next night, they went to Golden State, which took advantage of Houston’s back-to-back situation and pressed the action all night, and again the Rockets fell just short, losing 132-128.

A 13-point home loss to the Nuggets came next, followed by last Wednesday’s 107-99 home loss to the Hornets and then Saturday’s 124-121 overtime road loss to the Spurs. So in summary, the Rockets dropped their first five games, three of them on the road by a toltal of 10 points, and those five teams woke up today with a combined record of 29-7! And if you take out Denver’s 4-4 record, Houston’s other four losses were against teams (Lakers, Warriors, Hornets, Spurs) that are a combined 25-3, and those four defeats were by margins of 2, 4, 8 and 3 points.

Well, one night after Saturday’s overtime loss in San Antonio, the Rockets finally caught a break in the schedule: They returned home to face the lowly Timberwolves, and Houston took full advantage in running away with a 120-94 victory as an 8½-point favorite. And that brings us to tonight, with the Rockets catching another weak opponent in Washington.

If the Wizards aren’t as bad as Minnesota, they’re close. Just look at the starting five Washington is trotting out: rookie John Wall and over-the-hill veteran Kirk Hinrich in the backcourt; Andray Blatche and Al Thornton at forward; and something named JeVale McGee at center. Coming off the bench for the Wizards are “household” names Nick Young, Hilton Armstrong, Yi Jianlian and Carter Martin, with the occasional appearance by the oft-injured, always-mentally-erratic Gilbert Arenas.

And now you know why Washington has just one win (a one-point overtime home victory over the lowly 76ers) and four losses (to the Magic, Hawks, Knicks and Cavs by an average of 14.8 ppg).

True, Wall may end up being the best player on the court tonight, and I actually expect him to have a big game since he won’t have speedy Rockets point guard Aaron Brooks to chase him around (Brooks is out several weeks with an ankle injury). But beyond point guard, Houston has the advantage at every position. And unlike Washington, the Rockets have an extrrmely deep bench.

Two final reasons to love Houston tonight: 1) The Wizards’ 1-4 SU record is matched by a 1-4 ATS mark, and that’s in addition to pointspread slumps of 4-11 at home, 4-11-1 against teams from the Southwest Division and 3-8 as an underdog; and 2) Houston has won and covered five straight games in Washington D.C., with an average victory margin of 8.6 points. And that’s part of the Rockets’ 12-2 SU and 10-4 ATS run in this rivalry!

Bottom line: Houston proved on Sunday that it can dominate a crappy team, and with no game tomorrow to worry about, the Rockets will prove it again with their sixth straight win on the Wizards’ home court, this one a double-digit rout!

Football Jesus NBA Text : Milwaukee Bucks + points in atlanta

golden contender

Wednesday NBA Blowout System has 97% Power system and 2- 100% Angles. NCAAF Double System winner also with 100% Angle up as well. NBA now 11-3 after Cashing big total in Miami- Utah game.

On Wednesday the NBA Free play is on the Milwaukee Bucks. Game 703 at 7:05 eastern. The Hawks may be a little flat here as they have been brought back to earth losing their last 2 after a 6-0 start. Their last loss was very discouraging, from the stand point that despite their top effort they still fell short vs an Orlando Team that slaughtered them in the playoffs. Milwaukee is getting nearly 7 points here and comes in off a nice wire to wire win over the Knicks last night. The Bucks have cashed 5 straight on the road with no rest off a home game. For technical purposes we note the certain home favorites that scored 90 or less as a road dog of 5 or more points are losing propositions when taking on teams that scored 100 or more as a home favorite of 5 or more. Look for the Bucks, at the very least to stay within the Number. On Wednesday I have a Huge NBA Blowout system side with a 97% system that wins by 16 points per game. There are also 2 perfect angles in the game. NBA moved to 11-3 on the year as we nailed another Big total last night in the Miami at Utah game. I also have a double system college football play with a 100% angle. For the free play take the Milwaukee Bucks.

Wednesday's winner...
400-Unit NBA Money Maker #2 in a Row - ATLANTA HAWKS

Big home win for the Bucks on Tuesday night as they completely dominated the Knicks, building a 22 point lead after the first quarter and cruising in for the easy win and cover. But all that is going to disappear tonight when they travel to Atlanta and face a Hawks’ squad that eliminated them from the playoffs last season after trailing 3-2.

One of the more exciting, and shocking, series in the playoffs last year, Atlanta rallied to knock out the Bucks after falling behind 3-2. But Milwaukee’s downfall in that series will be its downfall tonight, just not enough offense to really challenge the Hawks. In the last two games of the series, the Bucks managed to average just 71.5 points, losing 83-69 in Game 6 and falling 95-74 in Game 7.

Even though they lit up the Knicks on Tuesday, Milwaukee had managed to hit triple digits just once in the first seven games of the season. The Bucks just aren’t built to get into shootouts with teams and Atlanta comes in with a lot of bullets in the chamber and a scoring average of 104 points per game and 49.8 percent shooting.

After winning six straight to start the season, the Hawks have lost two in a row after losing in Orlando on Monday night, 93-89, but they cashed as nine-point pups.

Milwaukee is just 1-4 ATS in its last five games against teams with winning records while the Hawks have cashed in 19 of their last 27 Wednesday games. In this series, the Hawks have gone 7-3 ATS in the last 10 in Atlanta, plus the home team is on a 5-2 ATS surge and the chalk has cashed in six of the last eight.

The Bucks are on the second night of a back-to-back and they already struggle to score points. It just gets tougher tonight. Lay the points and play Atlanta.

Timberwolves at Kings
Pick: Kings -9

Sacramento Kings are at home tonight taking on the Minnesota T-Wolves, a team they beat in the season opener on the road. The T-Wolves fresh off an all-out-effort attack against the Lakers last night, which they ended up losing. It should have taken some of the air out of them. The Kings are amid a rough homestand, losing the past two games, and the problem the Kings have had recently is their defense, or lack thereof. They score at will, but they just seem to not be able to hold on the ball late in games, turning it over too much. That all stops tonight. They are coming of a nice four-day rest and taking on a weaker and far less-rested T-Wolves team -- which, by the way, they beat to start the season without Tyreke Evans. Lay the points take the Kings!

Illinois Chicago vs. Pittsburgh (NCAAB) - Nov 10, 2010 7:00 PM EST
Play: Point Spread: -24/-101 Pittsburgh Pick Title: Illinois Chicago vs. Pittsburgh
The Panthers did not look good in their opener but they got the win and the first game jitters behind them. I'm sure Coach Jaime Dixon sent a loud message to his team after the lethargic win. Illinois Chicago was a force in the Horizon a few years ago, but things have turned sour. UIC dropped 22 games a year ago, have a new coach and three returning players, so expectations this year are minimal. I look for Pitt to dominate an under-sized undermanned UIC team in the paint where easy looks make for high shooting percentages and a lot of second chance points, which is the perfect ingredients for toppling a big number. The Flames just don't have any answers inside or out and, off a poor performance, I look for Pitt to put the pedal to the metal tonight. I'll like Pitt in this one

NBA
2* Orlando -11 over UTAH(7pm)
1* Orlando -6.5 1st half - This is an incredibly bad spot for UTAH. The Jazz are off B2B OT games. They had an incredibly exciting and exhausting comeback vs the Heat last night. Their starters logged a ton of minutes as they aren't the deepest team to begin with. The only reason they weren't blown off the floor in Miami was the superhuman game by Paul(don't call me Ronnie) Milsap. A let down is only natural for the whole team but especially Milsap. Orlando has been laying in wait for tonight. They had to love watching not only the heat lose, but to have Utah expend such energy was quite the bonus. The magic get Jameer Nelson back tonight and he is the cog in the engine that makes the offense flow.

NCAABB
2* College of Charleston +14 over Maryland(7pm) - Maryland was awfully sloppy in their opening night win over Seattle. They had 29 turnovers. The 1st half was close but due to the fact that Seattle's tallest starter was 6'5", the terrapins wore them down despite their loose ball handling. Maryland is replacing many parts on their team so turnovers are expected but that was really bad. Charleston has 3 starters returning plus their 6th man. This is a team who finished 2nd last year in the underrated Southern conference. IMO guard play is the key in these match ups and COC will have the best guard on the floor in Goudelock. I will take the team that is used to playing with each other vs the big name major conf school getting 14 every time.

NHL
2* Columbus +100 over St Louis(7pm)

This is another game similar to the Montreal game we won last night where we exploit teams with long streaks.

How similar you ask? Lets look at the nhl.com preview to compare the 2 games:

Yesterday: "The Canucks are one of the hottest teams in the League right now having won six straight and seven of their last 10 overall."
Today: "No doubt the Blues are the hottest team in the NHL with a seven-game winning streak, their longest since a nine-game run from Oct. 15-Nov. 5, 2002"

The fact is that Columbus is at even odds to take down today's "hottest team". Both teams rely a lot on goal tending to win their games as they average about a 2.5 goals per game. The main difference is Columbus is working off 3 days rest after a home loss while the Blues have been to Boston, New York, Columbus tonight and then have to go back home tomorrow for another game. These 2 teams resemble each other greatly so we have to go with the team that is well rested and playing at home. Home team is 15-5 in the last 20 meetings.

Houston –3½ over WASHINGTON Pinnacle

Strength of schedule is important whether you’re betting the NBA, the NFL, College Football or the NHL. It’s mightily important because it can make great teams appear bad and awful teams appear good and the examples of this phenomenon are present throughout the sports world. Yeah the Rockets are 1-5 but have played hands down the hardest schedule in the league. Rocket opponents have an unreal .658 win percentage, far and away the highest in the NBA. Despite this, Houston basically has an equal point differential and what that means is that they are way better than the 1-5 record indicates. Luckily for us bettors this means that spreads which would normally be in the 6-7 point range come down to 3½, making this an automatic bet. The Wizards are 1-4 but unlike the Rockets have played a relatively easy schedule. They have been blown out by the Knicks and Magic and if not for a miracle win over the Sixers would be 0-5 right now. The fact that they’re playing at home shouldn’t be seen as an “advantage” because quite frankly this Wizards team is going to be awful either way and the venue they play at won’t make one iota of a difference. It’s a team that ranks dead last in the East in points allowed, dead last in field goal percentage against, dead last in offensive and defensive rebounding and first in turnovers. This is a putrid, putrid squad that will approach the 60-loss mark and aren’t in the same class as Houston. The Rockets should pound this feeble opponent like they did the Timberwolves on Sunday. The players and coaches know wins in the West are hard to come by and will play with maximum effort tonight. Play: Houston –3½ (Risking 2.06 units to win 2).

Miami Ohio Over (51) for 1.5 Units

Both of these teams' have poor running games and defend the pass poorly. Consequently, we'll look for an aerial circus in an extended game. Both teams are coming off extra rest. BG is 4-0 O/U following a bye-week and 4-1 O/U after scoring less than 20 points in previous game. Miami OH, after 4 straight "unders", is overdue for an "over" here. This should be the spot; after all, the Redhawks are 4-1 O/U in November and 12-5 O/U after allowing less than 20 points in previous game. With both teams relying on their respective pass games because of their inability to run the football, we'll look for big plays to evolve on both sides of the ball. "Over" the call.
