ACC TAPOUT G.O.Y.! I'm laying the points with Florida State on Saturday afternoon. It wasn't all that long ago when the Seminoles were ranked 5th in the nation and the focus of college football was on Tallahassee for a battle with the powerful Oklahoma Sooners. FSU gave OU all they could handle, tied at 13 with less than 8 minutes to go in the contest, before losing by 10 points. That loss doesn't look too bad at all considering what Oklahoma has done since, including their 55-17 thrashing of previously unbeaten Texas. The 'Noles outstanding defense held the nation's 6th ranked offense (534 yards per game) to 310 yards on 4.7 yards per play. That talented defense ranks 10th in total yards allowed per game, 24th against the pass, and 18th against the run. Just a few weeks later, that same media that was ready to jump all over the Seminole bandwagon, has all but forgotton about them. It sure didn't help that QB E.J. Manuel missed some time with an injury, and it also didn't help that FSU played Oklahoma, at a very strong Clemson team (without Manuel), and at underrated Wake Forest, in successive weeks. The fact is, while they're 2-3 SU, Florida State is just a handful of plays from a 5-0 record. This week FSU steps down in level of compeition against a Duke team that began the season with a loss to Richmond, a blowout home loss to Stanford, then 3 wins against struggling Boston College, Tulane, and FIU. That final win was extremely misleading. FIU outgained Duke 568-384 and had 6 drives of 59 yards or more. Duke's game winning TD was a 1-play, 9-yard drive. The Duke defense is not a good one and is "just what the doctor ordered" for E.J. Manuel and the offense to bust out, even without RB Chris Thompson (back). Duke is 19-39-1 ATS in their last 59 at home. They're 3-11 ATS as a home dog of more than 10 points. Meanwhile, Florida State is on a perfect 4-0, 100% run at Duke.
