10* Division Rnd Total G.O.Y. (26-12 L2 yrs, incl 4-0 in the playoffs)-Sunday
My 10* Division Round Total of the Year is on Hou/Bal Over at 1:00 ET.

I backed the Texans last weekend in the franchise's 1st-ever postseason game. The Texans drew a very favorable opponent in that contest, the Bengals. Not only was Cincinnati, like Houston, starting a rookie QB (a 1st in the Super Bowl era) but the Bengals' 9-7 regular season record was attained by beating NINE non-playoff teams in 2011 while going 0-7 in seven games against 2011 playoff-qualifiers. The Texans delivered a 31-10 win. However, what a difference a week makes. The Texans now travel to Baltimore to take on a team which has qualified for the postseason in each of head coach John Harbaugh's 1st four seasons on the job. However, what makes this game different for the Ravens is, it marks the first-ever home playoff game for Harbaugh and Co. All SEVEN of Baltimore's playoff games the last three years have come on the road with the Ravens owning a very impressive 4-3 record in those games. The 12-4 Ravens claimed their first AFC North crown since 2006 (1st-ever under Harbaugh) and it came in large part due to the team going undefeated at home for the first time in team history (8-0). The Ravens 'D' is again one of the league's best units and while Baltimore will face an outstanding Houston running game led by Arian Foster (1,224 yards TY & coming off a 153-yard effort vs the Bengals while scoring two TDs), Lewis & Co. will also get to face a rookie QB in TJ Yates, who figures to be in "way over his head." Yates 'survived' last weekend but he was at home (not in the hostile environment he'll face here) and his numbers were hardly much to talk about. He completed 11-of-20 for 159 yards with a TD and no INTs. Yates will not have much of a 'comfort zone' on Sunday, as Baltimore owned an AFC-high 48 sacks during the season and was one of just five teams in the entire NFL to have more INTs (15) than TD passes allowed (11). Houston will bring a defense with it to Baltimore which during the season, rivaled the stats posted by the Baltimore 'D." Let me note though, that while both teams allowed similar rushing yards (Houston 96.0 YPG and Baltimore 92.6), the Houston 'D' allowed 4.1 YPC to Baltimore's 3.5! As good as Foster is, is he better than Baltimore's Ray Rice? Rice ran for 1,364 yards (4.7 YPC / 12 TDs) and led the team with 76 catches (704 yards / 3 TDs). His 2,068 yards from scrimmage led the NFL. Joe Flacco has been savaged by critics this year and in fairness, this was not his best season. After three straight seasons of completing better than 60%, he finished with an unacceptable 57.6% completion percentage TY. However, his ratio wasn't bad (20-12) and he threw for 3,610 yards, basically matching his totals from each of the last two seasons (3,622 & 3,613). It should be noted that these teams met back in Week 6 (Ravens won 29-14) and in that game, Flacco threw for 305 yards. FYI for all the Tebow 'lovers' out there who constantly repeat that "all he does is win," they should 'jump on the Flacco bandwagon' as well, as he's the ONLY quarterback in NFL history to win a playoff game in each of his 1st three seasons! Anquan Boldin, the team's best and most dangerous receiver, caught EIGHT passes in that game (for 132 yards) and Boldin is expected to play this weekend, after sitting out the season's final two games. Baltimore has won 10 consecutive home games since losing 13-10 to Pittsburgh in Week 13 of the 2010 season, outscoring opponents by an average of 11.2 PPG. Going back to Week 11 of the 2009 season when the Ravens lost 17-15 to the Colts, the Ravens have won 18 of their last 19 home games. One more tidbit of interest in this game. When the Ravens beat the Texans 29-14 in Week 6 of 2011, the victory came after a bye week. Harbaugh has thrived in games following an off week in his four-year career with the Ravens, going 4-0 SU and ATS, with Baltimore winning on average, 28.3-to-10.3 PPG. Let's look at that 28.3 PPG average plus Baltimore's 27.4 PPG average in going 8-0 at home this year and its 25.2 PPG average in its 10-game home winning streak. The weather forecast for Sunday is mostly sunny with a high about 40. That's perfect football weather. The Ravens are known for defense but remember, Flacco had 305 yards vs the Texans in that Week 6 meeting plus Rice added 161 yards from scrimmage. Just why won't the Ravens score at or above their recent scoring averages at home? If so, we would need very little help from the Texans to get over this low number. The Texans are "up against it" here but DON'T sell them short. No one expects this team to win here and with last weekend's playoff win, the pressure is off Kubiak. Don't be surprised to see him to take some chances against a Pittsburgh defense he can't expect to compete against with Yates at QB, without something "up his sleeve." I expect this final to be in the high 40s or low 50s.
