Ice Picks: Saturday's Best NHL Bets

Winnipeg Jets at Nashville Predators (-200, 5.5)

Two words: Alexander Radulov.

The Russian forward left for the KHL in 2008 but returned this week to help bolster the Predator’s push for playoff positioning in the Western Conference. Radulov, who is still dealing with jet lag from his flight from Russia, has had limited practice time with the club but debuted on Thursday night with nearly 16 minutes of ice time as he scored his team’s only goal in a 5-1 loss to Pittsburgh.

"He's more mature in everything in terms of he's bigger. He's smarter. He's more hockey savvy with more poise," Nashville coach Barry Trotz said. "So yeah he's an improved version which is great because he was a good version when he was here."

And Radulov couldn’t have returned at a better time.

Nashville hasn’t scored more than three goals in nearly two weeks and not surprisingly is just 1-4 over that span.

"He's a superstar," defenseman Ryan Suter told reporters. "He plays hard and has got a great shot, and it's fun to be out there with him."

Pick: Predators

Phoenix Coyotes at San Jose Sharks (-138, 5)

No Shane Doan, no problem for the Phoenix Coyotes.

The team stayed in the thick of the playoff hunt this week with a 3-2 win over Colorado as their captain watched from high above, serving the first of a three-game suspension that will sideline him again on Saturday. Doan, who has 21 goals and 26 assists, was minus-11 through 74 games, however, and the team appears to be tightening its belt as it hits the stretch run.

"Guys knew they had to step it up," Phoenix coach Dave Tippett said after the win over the Avalanche. "As a team, we were stronger earlier in the game but didn't make enough plays in the third. We hung on, picked up the two points and now move forward."

Phoenix has seen the under go 35-29-11 this season and bettors have regularly cashed tickets playing the under when the Coyotes tangle with their Pacific Division rivals. Phoenix-San Jose matchups have seen the under go 11-5-2 in the past 16 meetings.

Meantime, San Jose also is getting stingier as the stakes increase. The Sharks have seen the under go 8-3-2 in their past 13 overall.

Pick: Under

Pick 'n' Roll: Saturday's Best NBA Bets

Sacramento Kings at Golden State Warriors (-2.5, 207)

It’s hard to find a bigger fan of the recent Golden State trades than guard Klay Thompson.

The Warriors rookie guard has blown up in the six games since the team shipped out Monta Ellis and opened a starting spot for him in the backcourt. Over that span, the first-year player from Washington State is averaging 20 points in 37 minutes as he is shooting 40.9 percent from the field. Not the highest percentage, but not bad for a player of his pedigree learning how to score in a variety of ways every night. In a 101-92 win over New Orleans this week, Thompson exploded for a career-high 27 points. Overall, he is averaging 9.6 points, 1.9 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game.

"He came into the league being able to get open off screens and get shots," Warriors coach Mark Jackson told reporters. "The thing that he's gotten better with doing from Day 1 is putting the ball on the floor. He was not able to do that the first time he stepped on an NBA court. Right now he's comfortable doing it, and he's going to continue to get better."

The Warriors are 5-0 ATS their past five against the Pacific Division.

Pick: Warriors

Memphis Grizzlies at Los Angeles Clippers (-3.5, 190.5)

It looks like Vinny Del Negro might want to start checking the real estate market.

"Vinny has lost the team," one source told ESPN.com. "They don't want to play hard for him."

Reports leaked late this week the Clippers coach was losing the locker room and the team was starting to revolt. Well, going 4-6 SU and 2-8 ATS the past 10 games certainly can’t help. Another big issue is the coach’s inability to establish a consistent rotation with a talented squad. Guard Eric Bledsoe has seen his minutes go from double-digits to a seat on the bench some nights and starter and team-favorite Randy Foye has gone from key cog to the pine after the team acquired streak-shooter Nick Young.

Del Negro also reportedly has refused to critize stars Blake Griffin and Chris Paul while trashing the team’s reserves.

"That's a big problem," one player told ESPN.com. "The best coaches jump on whoever deserves it, no matter who it is."

And even with the team’s struggles, Del Negro refuses to admit he is an anchor brining down the team.

"When you're losing games, everyone jumps on you. If you can't take the heat, you shouldn't do the job," Del Negro told the Los Angeles Times. "That's part of it. You have to win games. That's what you're measured on and we haven't played as well as I would like or anybody."

Did we mention the Clippers are 2-8 ATS the past 10 games?

4 UNIT PLAY

Florida/ Louisville Over 131: Both of these teams played ugly low scoring games on Thursday, but that will not be the case here. Back in the regular season when the Cardinals played an uptempo team like Marquette they really got out an ran with them and 155 points were scored in that game. That is actually Louisville kind of game and Pitino said so afterwards. They need to push the ball to be effective and I feel they will have to do that here, plus I don't expect Florida to let the pace of this one slow down anyway. The Gators are a high scoring team as they have averaged 76.1 ppg on 46.3% shooting, plus they also take alot of threes and hit those shots at a 38% clip. Louisville is playing great defense right now as they have allowed just 51.2 ppg in their last 5 games and they have allowed 54.6 ppg on neutral courts this year, but I feel this Florida team has just too many weapons for them to stoip here, especially with little prep time. Florida has played great defense in the Tourney (51 ppg), but 2 of their 3 games were vs Norfolk State and Virginia so those numbers are a bit misleading and if we go back a little further we find that Florida did allow 74 points or more in 4 of their last 5 games before the Big Dance. Louisville has scored just 61.7 ppg in the tourney, but two of those games were slow down game, while the one game they played vs a fast paced team (Davidson) they were able to put up 69 points. This will NOT be a slow paced game. Louisville really likes to run and they will get their chance vs a Florida team that likes that pace as well. Look for a game in the 140's here.

3 UNIT PLAY

Ohio State -2.5 over Syracuse: Since the Loss of Melo I have been on the side of the Cuse, but not today. I think their season will come crashing down on them here. The Orange are the deepest team in the nation and they have gone 5-1 this year without Fab, but they did struggle to beat UNC Asheville in the opener, then they faced a KSU squad that found out at game time that they would be missing their second leading scorer and top rebounder (Samuels) and they still struggled with them before pulling a way late. And then they struggled again with with Wisconsin before winning late. They have had time to adjust to the loss of Melo, but they are still not a team that is playing very well right now and I feel it will catch up to them in this one. The Buckeyes are off a 15 point win over a very hot Cincinnati squad and to me that is more impressive than the 1 point win the Cuse had over Wisconsin. The Buckeyes have been rolling offensively as they have put up 76.8 ppg in their last 6 games and 77.8 ppg in the tourney and without Fab I don't feel the Orange will be able to stop the Buckeyes here. OSU is the play here as they are better at both ends of the court right now and the loss of Melo will finally hurt this Syracuse team in this one. It'll be close but OSU will pull away late by hitting their FT's.

2 UNIT PLAY

Syracuse/ Ohio State Over 134.5: The Buckeyes have averaged 76.3 ppg in the tourney and they have put up 72 points or more in 6 of their last 7 games overall. I feel they should be able to score plenty in this one vs a Melo-less Syracuse team. The Buckeyes did give up just 59 points in their opening tourney win, but they have allowed 66 points in each of their last 2 games and dating back to the regular season they have allowed 66 ppg in their last 8 games. The Orange miss Melo on the defensive end but on offense he was only producing 7.1 ppg, so he won't be missed that much at that end of the floor and Louisville has averaged 70.3 ppg in the tourney without him. Neither team will slow the pace here and with both teams being average on defense at the moment I will look for right around 140 points in this one.

Elite 8 and soon the 2012 Final 4 odds will be posted. Sensational tipster Vic Duke of OffshoreInsiders.com has an NCAA Tournament lock.

Florida (-1) for 2 Units **
Florida/Louisville 4:30: Coming off my monster 4* selection -- Fla (+2) beating Marquette, I'm staying on the Gators here. Florida has consistently played well in the post-season, like Louisville, but bring more to the floor on the offensive end in this matchup.

Louisville has been outstanding since the conference tournaments began -- on a 7-0 ATS tear, but they may have met their match here. The Cardinals have stifled and frustrated their opponents with high pressure defense in which many times led to scoring opportunities. There offense is productive but grows stagnant at times.

Florida, on the other hand, has turned up their defensive intensity in post-season play; consequently, it has fueled their alread potent offense. Even when their dangerous 3 point game is not working, they manufacture points by locking down on the defnesive end and creating transition buckets or with Walker slashing to the basket with a plethora of soft touch shooters to choose from. Boynton has been a steady scoring threat all season and we'll look for his scoring supporting cast to show up again. As well as L'ville guards the perimeter, Florida's double-digit scoring big men -- Murphy and Young will need to hit their shots near the basket. We'll bet they do. Florida the call.

Senior Handicapper Matt Rivers of OffshoreInsiders.com has a free pick on Saturday is on the Memphis Grizzlies (+2.5) to the LA Clippers.

Reasoning: I was anti Clippers two nights ago in New Orleans and it paid off in flying colors as Los Angeles completely ran out of gas in the Big Easy thanks to a third straight night of playing and traveling capping off a ridiculous swing of 9 games in 12 days. The Clips had no legs whatsoever in that final period and it showed in a bad loss to a bad team which happened to be Chris Paul's former squad.

Things may not be as difficult today back home and with a day off but it's still a 10th game in the past 14 days and the never easy first game back home from a road trip. Add in the fact that it appears, according to many media outlets, that Vinny Del Negro has lost the team and I don't see much improving today for Chris Paul, Blake Griffin and the home Clippers. These guys are struggling mightily losing game after game and underachieving to the max and now they're not even losing to man drawing up the x's and o's.

Memphis has been scuffling themselves and just lost at Portland on Thursday night but they just don't seem like a diseased team, which this Los Angeles squad is quickly becoming. Marc Gasol has been great, Rudy Gay can score and all in all the Grizzlies are a capable squad that can put a reeling Clipper team away, even on the road.

It's not a great value only getting a few points back but in the end I can see this LA team wet the bed once again in yet another defeat as their season continues to spiral out of control.

Top expert pick on this game: LA Clippers form the real Matt Rivers

Toronto Raptors vs. Chicago Bulls Toronto Raptors +13-105 at 5dimes (http://www.5dimes.com/)

1 Unit on Toronto Raptors +13
The Raptors enter tonight's contest with some nice momentum following a 96-79 win over the Knicks, and they'll be lacking no motivation here after blowing a 12-point lead in Wednesday's 12-point loss to the Bulls.

The odds are in Toronto's favor here considering it is 11-5-1 ATS in its last 17 games as an underdog, 6-1 ATS in its last 7 games as a road underdog of 11.0 points or more and 9-1-1 ATS in its last 11 games vs. a team with a winning record.

The Bulls are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games as a home favorite of 11.0 points or more and have defeated the Raptors by more than 13 points at home just once in the last 10 meetings.

The Raptors are 5-1 ATS in the last 6 meetings in Chicago. We'll take the points.

Game: Calgary at Dallas (2:00 PM Eastern)
Pick: Game Total OVER 5 -125

The Calgary Flames have gone south after a five-game winning streak. They have now dropped four straight, negating the benefits gained from the streak. The Flames through 30 games saw just two get extended beyond regulation, but since have seen 18 of their last 43 do so. Those fortunes have led this team to playing OVER the total on short-total numbers, as they have not played an UNDER to a 5 total since late February. After back-to-back shutouts, Dallas has sprung a leak, allowing 3.5 goals per game in their last four. These clubs have had the offense going in the last five meetings as none have stayed UNDER the total. Play the OVER in this one.
