At 9:20 pm, our selection is on the Kentucky Wildcats minus the points over Kansas. On Saturday, we played on Kentucky over Louisville, and lost by a half-point. But we will come right back with John Calipari's crew here, as Kentucky falls into 30-4, 42-23, and 31-16 ATS Tourney Systems of mine. There's no denying how special this Wildcat team is. It has at least four future NBA players, and what's great about it is that the young kids all play the right way -- for the team, first and foremost. They play superb defense (ranked #11 in adjusted efficiency by Ken Pomeroy's metrics), as well as offense (#2 by Pomeroy), and shoot 3-pointers and free throws better than Kansas (notwithstanding Kentucky's poor 11-for-20 effort at the Charity Stripe vs. Louisville). Kentucky has shot 53% or better in four of its five Tourney games, and also shot over 50% vs. Kansas when the two teams met back in November (a 10-point Wildcat win). Kentucky held Kansas to 33% FG Shooting in that game, and but for another atypical effort from the free throw line (Kentucky was just 16-for-29), the Wildcats would have won that game by 15+ points. The Wildcats have been installed as a 6-point favorite today, and favorites of less than 8 points are a super 14-5 ATS in Title games, including 5-0 ATS if their opponent is playing with revenge. Also, underdogs off upset tourney wins, priced from +2.5 to +10.5 are a poor 95-139 ATS. Finally, #2 seeds are an awful 0-12 ATS off an upset tourney win, if they were a dog of +6 points or less in their last game, and are now matched up against a foe not off an upset win. Take Kentucky tonight minus the points. Good luck, as always...Al McMordie.
