Washington Nationals at Chicago Cubs (+115, N/A)

If the Chicago Cubs’ bullpen doesn’t get it together, it’s going to be a very long year for the North Siders.

A day after Kerry Wood and Carlos Marmol couldn’t finish off a spectacular effort from starter Ryan Dempster, the duo faltered again Saturday.

The Cubs had a 4-2 lead heading into the eighth before the Nats erupted with five runs against the Wood-Marmol combo to come away with a 7-4 victory.

Chicago’s Jeff Samardzija knows what it’s like coming out of the bullpen, but he has earned the No. 3 spot in the rotation this year and will make his sixth career start Sunday.

"You don't know how many opportunities you're going to get to start," Samardzija told reporters. "Once you become a reliever and have success, a lot of times that's where you end up in your career. I really wanted to give this a full head of steam and a full shot."

He has looked good this spring, apart from one bad start against the Rockies after he had locked down a rotation spot.

Cubs are worth a bet here as they look to keep the brooms away.

Pick: Cubs

Toronto Blue Jays at Cleveland Indians (-115, 8.5)

Working overtime is paying off for the Toronto Blue Jays.

The Jays opened the season with a 7-4 win over Cleveland in 16 innings Thursday in what was the longest season opener in league history and then needed 12 innings to pick up another 7-4 win Saturday.

Rajai Davis delivered a two-run double to snap the tie in the 12th inning. Brett Lawrie also had a big day, snapping Ubaldo Jimenez’s no-hit bid in the seventh inning with a two-run single in the seventh. Lawrie finished the day with three hits and a run scored.

Toronto will send Joel Carreno to the mound against veteran Derek Lowe Sunday. Carreno has just 15 2/3 innings of experience in the bigs, while Lowe is looking to make a good impression on his new club.

Lowe struggled with some back spasms late in spring training, but he’s never been on the DL in his career and will be game for this start.

Pick: Indians

Pick 'n' roll: Sunday's Best NBA Bets

Cleveland Cavaliers at New Jersey Nets (-7, 193.5)

Even though the Nets don’t have much to play for these days, they’re putting together a nice run down the stretch.

New Jersey has won four of its last six, covering five times over that span as they get set to host the struggling Cavaliers.

As usual, point guard Deron Willams has been a major catalyst. He put up 19 points and 13 assists in New Jersey’s 100-84 blowout of the Wizards. The Nets shot a season-best 56 percent from the floor.

"We didn't finish up strongly on the road trip (losing the last two games to the Lakers and Trailblazers), so we wanted to get back on our winning track," Williams told reporters. "We started off better than usual and that was the key. We just played solid all throughout the game. We all played well."

The Cavs just snapped a nine-game losing streak with a win over Toronto, but they’re going to struggle against New Jersey without Kyrie Irving and Anthony Parker.

Pick: Nets

Utah Jazz at San Antonio Spurs (-10, 209.5)

The condensed schedule is starting to catch up to the Utah Jazz.

Paul Millsap (stomach virus) and C.J. Miles (nausea) have been battling through illness, and Devin Harris (sprained left ankle) and Al Jefferson (strained abdomen) are banged up.

"This time of year, especially, most guys are aching in some kind of way. If you want an excuse not to play, you can find it easy," Jazz coach Tyrone Corbin said. "If you love what you're doing and you're willing to be responsible to your teammates and the character of you as a person, you fight through those things."

The Jazz downed the Warriors to snap a two-game losing skid, but they’ve covered only once in the last six contests.

Pick: Spurs

After two dramatic wins to starts the season we enjoy a nice 10-0 WINNER on Saturday with Detroit taking care of the Red Sox behind Prince Fielder and Miguel Cabrera's 5 RBIs and 4 HRs.

Back with one play Sunday as we look to keep the run going.

The Masters Round Four Matchup Bets
by Matt Fargo

Saturday was certainly a strange day at Augusta and not because our matchup plays were putrid. It was a day that saw the leaders take a big step back while players that needed to make a move on moving day actually did so. While it was expected there would be a 65 out there on Friday, it never happened, but Saturday saw it as Peter Hanson put up the low round of the day as well as the tournament through three rounds with a 65. The nine-shot improvement from Friday is by far the best of anyone.

Things were not looking great for Phil Mickelson after posting an even par 36 on the front but then the magic came out. Lefty shot a masterful 30 on the incoming nine as he posted four birdies and an eagle to find himself just one shot back heading into Sunday. The three-time Masters champion has a huge edge in this final grouping based on experience and it is interesting to note these two squared off in the 2010 Ryder Cup in the Sunday singles with Mickelson winning the match 4 and 2.

Oh Tiger. Woods birdied three and four on Saturday and a lot of us thought moving day would be his. It was not meant to be however as he finished with two bogeys going out and played the back even par, consisting of nine consecutive pars. Overall, 15 players posted a 70 or better to at least give themselves a shot on Sunday but realistically, only a handful are within striking distance. After Friday, 23 players were within four shots of the lead but after Saturday, only eight players are within five shots of the lead.

1-1-1 Thursday

1-0-2 Friday

1-2 Saturday

(7412) Zach Johnson -115 over (7411) Aaron Baddeley

Aaron Baddeley was even par after an eagle on 13 Saturday and then the wheels fell off. He played the last five holes at five over to knock himself out of the tournament and trying to recover on Sunday will be tough. Zach Johnson shot a 75 Saturday but he was consistent in doing so as he finished with three bogeys and 15 pars. He is just two over in his last 27 holes and is in good shape for a solid Sunday.

(7429) Jonathan Byrd +110 over (7430) Jim Furyk

Jim Furyk was making a Saturday move as he made the first page of the leaderboard after going out in 34 but the back nine was not as good as two bogeys were followed up by an eagle on 13 which was followed up by another two bogeys to post 38 on the finishing nine. Jonathan Byrd is at -1 also but he has not posted an over-par round and after a very inconsistent Friday, he was more consistent Saturday with two birdies and two bogeys.

(7447) Louis Oosthuizen +110 over (7448) Bubba Watson

Louis Oosthuizen has been outstanding since early Friday as after putting up a +3 after five holes, he has gone -6 over his last 31 holes. A bogey on 18 on Saturday was a killer but he has been playing extremely consistent and let's not forget he is already a major champion. Watson closed with birdies on three of his last six holes on Saturday to gain some momentum but he will be outclassed here.

NBA | Apr 08 Philadelphia 76ers vs. Boston Celtics Boston Celtics -4-105 at 5dimes (http://www.5dimes.com/)

On Sunday the free NBA System Play is on Boston. Game 706 at 6:05 eastern. The Celtics fit a nice system that has cashed 9 of the last 10 times and plays on certain home favorites with no rest that scored 90 or less as a road dog of 4 or less, vs an opponent off a home game that shot 45% or less. The Celtics have won 10 straight at home with no rest off a road game and the Sixers who struggle to get 80 points of late have failed to cover in 3 of the last 4 as a road dog with no rest off a home game and blew an 8 point half time lead in last nights loss to Orlando. Look for Boston to shut down the Sixers and get the cash in this one. On Easter Sunday we have 2 solid plays up. The 97% NBA Power system side and the 1st MLB Diamond cutter system side in a game where our team wins by an average 3 runs per game and has the pitching edge. Best of all the game is close to a pickem. NBA Top 6* play cashes with Orlando. Jump on and end the week big. For the free play take . The Boston Celtics. RV

Los Angeles +109 over SAN DIEGO

The Dodgers are 3-0 while the Padres are 0-3 and that first win becomes harder to come by with each passing loss. The Padres trailed yesterday’s game 5-0 before rallying to tie it but don’t be fooled by that. They had four hits the entire game and they’re hitting a combined .126 over their first three games. Not only are they losing, but they’re already pressing at the plate. Meanwhile, the Dodgers have 26 hits and 17 runs in the first three and come into this one in a great state of mind. The pitching matchup of Aaron Harang versus Clayton Richard certainly doesn’t favor the Padres either. Last season, shoulder surgery ended Richards’ year in July. Before that he had poor control and a 5.30 ERA on the road. So if Petco helps him, so be it, his lack of consistent command puts success in comfy parks at risk too and with marginal raw stuff, there's no strikeout uptick on the horizon either. Use his xERA of 4.34 as your guide. Aaron Harang faces the team he played for last season where he revived his career and posted an ERA of 3.05 at Petco. Clearly, luck played a big part in Harang's revival. But his xERA history doesn't vary all that much over the past four years and provides a better roadmap for what to expect. Having said all that, we’d much prefer to take back a tag with the Dodgers and Harang than spotting one with the struggling Padres and that stiff they’re sending out today. Play: Los Angeles +109 (Risking 2 units).

St. Louis -103 over MILWAUKEE

The Brewers finally won a game yesterday when Zack Greinke shutout the Cardinals. Unfortunately for them, Randy Wolf is not Zack Greinke. Only twice in his career, 2002 and 2009, did Wolf manage an ERA beneath 3.50 and a WHIP under 1.20 and in eight of his 13 seasons he has had an ERA above 4.00 and a WHIP higher than 1.30. Last season, Wolf outpitched his xERA for third straight year. That’s some good fortune that will eventually run out. His skills are just middling, especially the past two years. His quality starts/disaster starts split reveals a pitcher more adept at avoiding failure than exhibiting real dominance. Beware this inning-eating Wolf in an above-average starter's clothing. Lance Lynn is another one of those potentially solid starters that the Cardinals seem to find every year. Lynn posted a 2.56 xERA and showed sound skills in 35 relief innings in 2011. In those 35 frames, he struck out 40, had a 57% groundball rate and he carried those skills into a successful spring. He has much more upside than down and he’s a better option than Wolf. Play: St. Louis -103 (Risking 2.06 units to win 2).

Bulls at Knicks: It’s unknown whether defending MVP Derrick Rose will be back for Chicago after missing considerable time over the past few weeks with a groin injury. What is known is that New York will be without both Amar’e Stoudemire and Jeremy Lin for the balance of the regular season.

This could be a preview of an opening round Playoff series. Despite losing this past Sunday at Oklahoma City, Chicago still has the best record in the NBA and leads Miami by 3½ games for the top seed in the Eastern Conference. New York starts the week holding the eighth and final seed.

The Bulls have won both prior meetings this season with the Knicks, although New York covered both times. It was following this second loss that Mike D’Antoni resigned as Knicks coach, replaced by Mike Woodson. The coaching change has resulted in a much greater emphasis on defense and in the 11 games since the change no team has topped 100 points against New York.Bulls--Knicks UNDER.

Game: Minnesota at Baltimore (1:35 PM Eastern)
Pick: Minnesota +110 (moneyline)

Minnesota has better offensive talent than we've seen so far. It will help to face a pitcher with average stuff, like they face here in Jason Hammel. Picked-up from Colorado, Hammell went 7-13 with a 4.76 ERA. He allowed more hits than innings pitched, but most alarming was his 68 walks in 170 innings. He puts a lot of guys on base, which was why he was 3-9 with a 5.30 ERA at home. Speaking of throwing strikes, that's what Twins starter Anthony Swarzak does best, walking just 13 batters in 63 2/3 innings last year. Swarzak started two games during spring training (both wins) and permitted only one run over a span of 9 2/3 innings. He also posted six strikeouts. The Twins are 5-1 in Swarzak's last six starts as an underdog of +110 to +150. Play the Minnesota Twins.

4-STAR TAMPA BAY over New York - Get ready for the talk to start this week. "What's wrong with the Yankees." Well it's nothing other than they ran into a really good Tampa Bay team loaded with starting pitching. That matchup is what creates the value here as you know what Jeremy Hellickson brings to the table when he takes the mound. Phil Hughes has the ability to match him but is also a major question mark. At home at basically even money, we are happy to see what he has to offer.

These teams have fared very differently when trying to close out series. The Yankees are 3-9 since September 07, 2011 and it is the last game of the series for a net profit of $940 when playing against. Also, the Rays are 20-7 since June 08, 2011 and it is the last game of the series after playing in a night game for a net profit of $1142.
What we really like about this is the killer instinct which Tampa Bay has shown as they look to bury the Yankees to 0-3 here. The Rays went 8-0 (2.9 rpg) last season when going for a three game sweep.
Yesterday, Tampa Bay won the second straight high scorer, 8-6. After 6.1 solid innings from David Price it took five more pitchers to close the way with a dicey ninth inning. The Rays are 36-9 since April 26, 2008 at home after a win in which they used 5+ pitchers in a night game for a net profit of $2285. SPORTSBOOK BREAKERS PREDICTION: TAMPA BAY 5, New York 2

5-unit Play Take #965 San Francisco Giants (-125) over Arizona Diamondbacks (4:10pm ET)
The Arizona Diamondbacks go for the sweep today against the San Francisco Giants after winning two tight games on Friday and Saturday. These teams are pretty evenly matched and it should be a good race in the National League West all season long. I know it's early, but this is the first important game for the Giants as they don't want to get off to an 0-3 start against their chief division rival. They have the right guy on the mound to turn things around in Matt Cain. The 27-year old just signed the richest contract for a right-handed pitcher ever and now he gets his chance to prove that he is worth it. He had an excellent spring and looks like he is completely locked in already. It will be hard to repeat his season last year when he posted a 2.88 ERA, but he's entering his prime and has all of the tools. The Giants are also going to score a lot more runs this season with Buster Posey back for an entire season and the arrival of rookie Brandon Belt. Their offense last year was record-breaking bad and this year they take a huge leap forward to being a middle-of-the-pack type offense.
The Diamondbacks had a great surprise season last year but they're not going to sneak up on anybody this time around. They got career years from a few guys last year and you can't count on that again. Josh Collmenter pitches for the D-Backs today and he has had a rocky spring. He has been experiencing some forearm tightness and it's translated into poor results on the mound. He had a gaudy 9.95 ERA in Spring Training and only struck out six batters in 19 innings. He has extra pressure on him to perform because phenom Trevor Bauer is waiting in the wings in the minor leagues, and he can be brought up at any moment. I would be surprised if Collmenter lasts past the fifth inning today, as the Giants lineup is no longer a joke. Take San Francisco and Matt Cain at a gift of a price for our Game of the Week.

2-unit Play Take #973 New York Yankees (-105) over Tampa Bay Rays (1:40pm ET)

The New York Yankees are also in danger of getting swept today in Tampa Bay against the Rays.I don't think the Yankees are panicking yet, but I think they're starting to realize that the Rays have a team that may be put together better than their own. It's a gut check game and manager Joe Girardi is going to do whatever he can to avoid the heat in New York by winning this one. Phil Hughes pitches for the Yankees today and he has been impressive in this return to the rotation. He's always had the talent and determination, but injuries have plagued him. I think he'll make the best of his opportunity and show everyone why he was so highly touted at one point. There's been nothing wrong with the Yankees bats as they've scored six runs in each of the first two games and we should continue to see that all season. There's not a single easy out in the entire lineup and they make the opposing pitcher earn it in every at bat.
Tampa Bay counters with Jeremy Hellickson. The right-hander will be 25 years old today as he heads into this second full season. With the kind of season Hellickson put together last year, I would be surprised if he didn't have a sophomore slump of some sort in 2012. Last year he was 13-10 with a 2.95 ERA and 1.15 WHIP en route to AL Rookie of the Year honors. Now that the league has seen him a couple of times, he will need to adjust a bit to continue to produce at a high level. He has already showed some signs of trouble in the spring and it's going to be tough to get it all together against the Yankees lineup. The Bronx Bombers will put the pressure on Hellickson early on and if they can hold a lead into the 7th inning, I like our chances with the best bullpen in baseball. Take the Yankees as a live underdog as they look to avoid the sweep today.

3-Unit Play. Take #955 Philadelphia (-130) over Pittsburgh (1:30 p.m., Sunday, April 8)

The Phillies lost in extra innings yesterday. But I think that they are going to win this series. Vance Worley has won 17 of his last 22 starts and the Phillies are 13-3 when he starts as a favorite. The Phils have won five of six in this series and I don't think that they are going to drop two of three to start the year.

2-Unit Play. Take #965 San Francisco (-120) over Arizona (4 p.m., Sunday, April 8)

The Giants lost two close games in the first two games of the year. They don't want to start off 0-3. And they have Matt Cain on the hill today. The Giants are 7-2 in his last nine starts against Arizona and I think he will have a big performance. Josh Collmenter struggled this spring for the D-Backs. I think those struggles are going to continue into the season. San Francisco takes the cash.

5-Unit Play. #967. Take Boston Red Sox +110 over Detroit Tigers (Sunday @ 1:05pm est).

Nice opportunity for us to take the Red Sox here and why not. They come off getting hammered yesterday by a score of 10-0 which I'm not sure does not sit well with any major league ballclub nevertheless a team that has such a proudful history like the Red Sox. This team was shutout and taking Salty out of the lineup and inserting Shoppach will go a long way today and combine that with the best Road pitcher in the Majors in Buccholz over the last 3 seasons gets the ball. Bucc has a .731 winning percentage which is the best in the majors over the last several years on the road and he is 1-1 with a 2.58era against the Tigers lifetime. Combine that with Scherzer who is 0-2 with a 9.45 era lifetime against the Red Sox and it makes for a decent underdog price for us to step-out today with. The Red Sox are 9-1 when Buccholz is a road underdog such as today and the Red Sox are 12-3 when Buccholz starts on the road against a team with a winning record such as today. Basically Clay Buccholz gets up to pitch on the road, and better teams on the road in particular and of course, the Red Sox pitchers will be able to see a few more pitches to hit today with Scherzer who they have had success against.

3 Unit Play Take # 955 Philadelphia -128 over Pittsburgh (1:35pm est):

I know all the talk coming out this spring is about how the Philadelphia Phillies are overrated, injured and old going into this year. Though I agree with some of that I do think it's getting a little hand now and has actually helped to create some value backing them for the time being. This is still a team that won over 100 games last season (102 overall and five more than the next closest team in baseball) and made it's followers over 12 units of profit along the way backing them. Keep in mind they did all this also with the pressure of having to win a large amount of games, placed on them by just about every single member of the media. Bottom line this is still one of the very best teams in all of baseball and even with a slight slip up they are a mid 90's win team overall, which should put them right in the middle for the best record in all of baseball again.

On the mound they go with Vance Worley in this one. Worley was a big surprise last year for a Phillies staff littered with Hall-Of- Fame pitchers on it. The Phillies backed Worley the last four times he pitched as a road favorite by getting the win last season and were a rock solid 7-1 with him on the hill the last eight times he was in this role. Even more impressive then that was the Phillies went 17-5 in Worley's last 22 starts overall, a win percentage much higher than in the games not pitched by Worley. Reports out of spring training are Worley has looked solid again, striking out batters at a higher than normal rate for him despite the fact he did get hit hard in his final outing of the exhibition season.

Big reason also for the play here is betting against Pirates starter James McDonald. The Pirates were a very ugly 18-41 to end last season and still have a long way to go to back to respectability. It seems with the Astros being so bad most have forgot just awful Pittsburgh still are also. They have won just one of McDonald's last seven starts and as a team are just 7-21 the game following a win in their previous contest. McDonald has been working on a new delivery all spring and the word is he is a mess right now and wasn't very good to begin with, the exact type of guy the Phillies need to help them break out of their season slump to start the year.

This price is just way too low here. All the Phillies and Worley do is win games. Philadelphia is 25-10 their last 35 games favored on the road and rarely are ever priced this low against a team as bad as the Pirates. Take Philadelphia here in this one.
