View Full Version : Event #10 for contest [Final]: UFC on FUEL 2

Woohoo! The tenth and final event for out contest is upon us! Of course, if I had any sense of foresight and timing, I would have scheduled the contest to end after 9 events with that dramatic SF / UFC doubleheader before the long break and not on this event with guys named Yousef that you didn't know were in the UFC. But I didn't -- so here we are.

As a reminder, the payout structure is $140 for first place, $40 for runner-up, and $20 for third. Ties, should they occur, will result in a splitting of the pot delegated to those places. So, for example, if we had one person alone in first place and a tie for the next two places, the payout would be $140 / $30 / $30, a tie for first and second with a distinct third would be $90 / $90 / $20, etc.

The total scores going into our final event are:

RedHottG2 8.82
Ludo 7.36
SPX 7.19
High5 4.49
trotterz 3.35
mike 1.39
poopoo 1.21
ctm0808 0.80
Svino -3.71
MMA_scientist -4.22

One final note, on reading an old PM that I hadn't noticed before, Ludo called my attention to what I realize was a typo in posting the betting lines for event #6.

"Jake Ellenberger (-300, 64%) vs. Diego Sanchez (+300, 36%)"

Should have read, "Jake Ellenberger (-300, 75%) vs. Diego Sanchez (+300, 25%)"

The event was scored according to the correct second line, but it might have caused you to get a different result if you were adding it yourself. I am sorry for the error and hope no one was misled.

Without further ado, the lines for UFC on FUEL TV 2 which have totally been rechecked several times for typos are:

Alexander Gustafsson (-194, 66%) vs. Thiago Silva (+194, 34%)

Brian Stann (-317, 76%) vs. Alessio Sakara (+317, 24%)

Diego Nunes (-144, 59%) vs. Dennis Siver (+144, 41%)

Paulo Thiago (-150, 60%) vs. Siyar Bahadurzada (+150, 40%)

Papy Abedi (-213, 68%) vs. James Head (+213, 32%)

Jason Young (-163, 62%) vs. Eric Wisely (+163, 38%)

Reza Madadi (-186, 65%) vs. Yoislandy Izquierdo (+186, 35%)

Brad Pickett (-194, 66%) vs. Damacio Page (+194, 34%)

Simeon Thoresen (-233, 70%) vs. Besam Yousef (+233, 30%)

Francis Carmont (-186, 65%) vs. Magnus Cedenblad (+186, 35%)

John Maguire (-138, 58%) vs. Damarques Johnson (+138, 42%)

Tom Deblass (-178, 64%) vs. Cyrille Diabate (+178, 36%)

Best of luck.

Here are the scores for our last event. RedHott and High5 nailed this one, RedHott sealing his victory, and High5 surging from behind to land in the paying ranks.

RedHottG2 2.26
High5 2.26
Poopoo 1.84
Svino 0.94
MMA_scientist 0.81
SPX 0.12
Mike 0
trotterz 0
ctm0808 -0.53
Ludo -1.66

The total scores for the complete tournament are:

RedHottG2 11.08
SPX 7.31
High5 6.75
Ludo 5.7
trotterz 3.35
Poopoo 3.05
Mike 1.39
ctm0808 0.27
Svino -2.77
MMA_scientist -3.41

Leaving us with our winners:

1st place ($140): RedHottG2
2nd place ($40): SPX
3rd place ($20): High5

I will wait a little bit to make sure there are no protests over my arithmetic, and then PayPal out the prize money.

Congratulations again to our winners, especially to Grand Prize winner RedHott! Thanks to everyone for participating in the tournament; I had a lot of fun running it and putting it together.

I'll close with a couple other random stats:

Best batting average (total score / number of picks made):
RedHottG2: 0.114
High5: 0.113

Best single event (individual):
RedHottG2 at UFC on FX: 2.92
SPX at Strikeforce, Rousey vs. Tate: 2.91

As a "team", our best event was Strikeforce: Rousey vs. Tate, with a total of +9.77. Our worst event by far was UFC 144: Japan at -5.82. Our average score per pick is +0.061, which is pretty good since it suggests we collectively would have been beating the 5% vig, even trying to pick most of the fights as we were.

WOW what a surprise all this has been for me to win this! When I started I told myself I just wanted to finish in the money because I knew going up against you guys was going to be a huge challenge. It has been a pleasure getting to know all you guys better and get a little out of my normal wagering circle. Doing this I've actually started to enjoy UFC and like to make an occasional wager. Great job to SPX and High5 for coming from behind to place. Most of all thanks to Svino for taking the time to run the contest (you did an awesome job!). May all your future MMA bets be good one's fellas! ::beerchug::

I'd be interested in doing one like that. In fact, we could set up a private pool on TKO Fantasy to run the shit. . .

MMA_scientist

whatever. I need to do something to get my pride back. Not a fan of the fantasy stuff though. Maybe we should just let it be a free-for-all. Bet as much as you want, on any fight you want. If we do it over a number of events, it will work itself out I think.

poopoo333
04-24-2012, 12:47 PM

MMA_scientist
04-24-2012, 01:05 PM
I don't care if you organize it. I don't promise to play though. I don't know what TKO fantasy type is, so I am pretty sure I would not win.

poopoo333
04-24-2012, 01:16 PM
Example: (keep in mind i am not sure of "tko fantasy" points so i am making my own)

Say there are 10 fights

For each fight:

pick the winner: 3 points
pick the way the fight ends tko, sub, etc: 5 points
pick the round:5 points

Each event we tally up the points and carry it on to the next event.

SPX
04-24-2012, 01:18 PM
Everyone picks the winner, method and round. Points are awarded for how accurate you are, for instance, 3 points for picking the winner, 2 points for picking the round, 2 points for picking the method, and then 3 additional points if you get all three correct.

Whoever ends up with the most points wins. It's pretty simple.

MMA_scientist
04-24-2012, 01:18 PM
Do you have to pick each fight? Is there any penalty for picking wrong (you know, like in betting).

SPX
04-24-2012, 01:19 PM
You don't HAVE to, but it's silly not to. If you don't pick, you get 0 points for that fight. So guessing would be better than not picking.

poopoo333
04-24-2012, 01:20 PM

You just don't get any points, so not really

Right, so it is not like you get -5 points for picking wrong then.
