Analysis:

The Yankees have lost Kuroda’s last two starts 3-1 and 6-1. As our long-time customers know, this lights the BUY sign for the Yankees. The Yankees are 33-4 since the start of the 2011 season when they LOST the last two games their starter started. The SDQL is simply:

team=Yankees and 2011<=season and s:L and ss:L

Note that they are 19-1 their last 20 with the only loss by a lone run. Kuroda has had three starts in this spot since joining the Yankees and he is a perfect 3-0 with three quality starts. NY seems to have a LAW that no starter of theirs ever loses three games in a row. The offense supports a struggling starter and that starter puts on their game face.

The last time the Kuroda faced the Rays, they beat him up for six runs and won 8-6. This also indicates a play on the Yankees. NY is a perfect 8-0 when Kuroda has personal revenge for a loss the last time he started against this opponent. In his last four starts in this sot, Kuroda has allowed a total of four runs. See for yourself by running this SDQL text at killersports.com/mlb.py/query:

starter =Hiroki Kuroda and S:L and 20120608<=date

This one will have a play-off-like atmosphere and Matt Moore has not demonstrated the mental toughness to compete in this types of games. In fact, the Rays are 0-7 in franchise history with Moore when their line is within 25 cents of pick vs an AL foe. The SDQL text is:

starter=Matt Moore and -125<=line<=125 and C

Finally, the Yankees are a best-in-league 62-27 (69.7%) when seeking immediate revenge for a loss in which they were shut out in the last 6 innings, making a profit of 26.7 net units. In their last four games from this season, they are 4-0.

We’re getting plus-money on the Yankees and we’ll grab it.

Cowboys + 4 at Giants: A big phat hook! That’s what first caught my eye. But then the hook went away as the wise guys took the game up to 4. I liked the Cowboys at 3½. I believe these two teams are closer in talent than the hook went away as the wise guys took the game up to 4. I liked the Cowboys at 3½. I believe these two teams are closer in talent than the press would lead you to believe. My only question would be on the coaching side where I think the G-men have the advantage. But strictly looking at the players I think these two teams will play a close game decided by a field goal. I’m looking for Romo to take advantage of a little confusion in the Giants’ secondary. COWBOYS.

triple-dime bet 980 SEA (-115) Hilton vs 979 BOS
Analysis: Seattle v. Boston

Kevin Millwood takes the mound against the Boston Red Sox, who have totally mailed it in for the season. Millwood is still trying to set an example for the young guys on the Mariners ballclub, so he should give max effort in this start, which is the final game of the Boston road trip. This play is entirely a fade on Boston, as well as taking advantage of the fact that the pitcher-friendly conditions at Safeco Field don't really affect Aaron Cook a„ whole lot. His ground balls can be hits anywhere. Lefties have also had great success against Cook this season with a .317 average and a .777 OPS. Opposing hitters are batting .355 off of Cook with runners in scoring position.

There's also a little incentive for Millwood to have a good month of September in hopes of finding a guaranteed rotation spot with somebody for the 2013 season.

Dallas +4 -106 over N.Y. GIANTS
The Cowboys lost four of their final five games last year to once again miss the playoffs. The final dagger came in the last game of the season at the hands of these Giants before the G-Men went on to win the Super Bowl. If Dallas wants to change the landscape in the NFC East and truly be a contender this season, a good start is imperative. Historically, Dallas has started well, peaked in November and nosedived in December so a strong start would be no surprise at all. The Cowboys return what should be their best backfield in recent memory with DeMarco Murray looking to lead the way while Tony Romo should once again put up some outstanding numbers. It should be noted that Romo’s best game of the year was when he passed for 321 yards and four scores in that late season bizarre loss to these Giants. The ‘Boys beefed up on defense while the Giants have lingering issues in their secondary, in addition to some key injuries there.

Let’s not overlook that New York allowed 400 points last year, which was more points than they scored. Then there’s the dreaded “Super Bowl hangover”. The Giants went on a Cinderella run to not only close out the season but to win outright as a dog in three playoff road games in Green Bay, San Fran and New England (neutral field) in the Super Bowl. When they defeated the Patriots in the 2008 Super Bowl, the next year they missed the playoffs with an 8-8 record. The Giants have plenty of playmakers (keep your eye on RB David Wilson) and Eli Manning has had some of his best games against Dallas. However, Dallas is talented too. Tony Romo appears to finally have the fire in his belly to take this team to the next level. It’s worth noting that Cowboys are at their best when taking points, covering seven of past nine when doing so. As is more common than not, this one should come down to the wire.

TAMPA BAY -113 over N.Y. Yankees
The Rays go for the sweep tonight and there’s nothing to suggest that they won’t get it. New York managed just six hits last night and it was the fifth game in succession that they’ve had six hits or less in a game. The last time they did that was in 1990 when they finished in seventh place in the American League East with a record of 67-95.

Hiroki Kuroda is having a fine year but he’s just 3-5 on the road with a 4.13 ERA. Kuroda’s overall ERA results have outpaced xERA indication thanks to favorable hit % and strand % so it is likely that a slight correction is forthcoming. In his lone career outing against Tampa Bay, Kuroda gave up six runs and eight hits while walking four in 5.2 innings of an 8-6 defeat April 7. The pressure this time around is much more intense.

The Rays are playing great ball. They recently reduced 10½-game AL East lead to a mere 1½-games. Matt Moore's rough start against the Yankees came on July 2 when he was not in the best of forms. That is not the case now, as he has five straight quality starts with a 2.56 ERA in that time. Moore has flipped his 4.19 ERA and 1.40 WHIP from the first half to a 2.76 ERA, 1.23 WHIP in the second half and it comes with full skills support. Moore was a top consensus MLB-ready starter prospect in the game. He blew away AAA hitters and he’s starting to do that here. Moore has 152 K’s in 156 innings. This line is set on reputation, not fact and the facts are clear. The stronger, streaking club is undervalued.
Our PickTAMPA BAY -113 (Risking 2 units - To Win: 1.77)

Baltimore vs TORONTO
Baltimore +106 over TORONTO
How do you get shutout at home in back-to-back games against Joe Saunders and Zach Britton? The Blue Jays managed to accomplish that difficult feat and now they’re favored against a team that grabbed a share of first place in the AL East last night?

The Blue Jays just want to call it a year already. Among the injured are Jose Bautista, Brett Lawrie and J.P. Arencibia. That leaves the offense to Adam Lind (.232), Colby Rasmus (.227), Kelly Johnson (.224), Yunel Escobar (.251) and Edwin Encarnacion (.281) hitting with no protection. After Encarnacion’s .281 BA, the next best on the club is Moises Sierra’s .252 average. Toronto has lost four straight while being outscored 30-8 over that span. They have four wins over their past 16 games.

The Orioles are sizzling with nine wins in their past 11 games. They went into New York last weekend and just missed the sweep. Instead of letting down after that big series, they carried that momentum into this series and promptly disposed of a weak team in killer fashion. Sure, the Jays have an edge on the mound with Brandon Morrow over Miguel Gonzales but so what? They had an edge in that 12-0 loss last night and Gonzalez is providing Baltimore with quality innings in a pennant race. This wager isn’t predicated on Gonzales over Morrow. It’s the Orioles over the Blue Jays where any take-back is a gift.

2-Unit Play. Take 'Under' 47.0 Dallas at New York Giants (8 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 5)
1-Unit Play. Take #452 New York Giants (-3.5) over Dallas (8 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 5)
This is a big game here on Opening Night to get the season started and I think that we're going to see a lower scoring affair. I know that offense is generally way ahead of the defense at this point in the season. But neither of these attacks are at full strength. Dallas has had issues with Miles Austin, Dez Bryant and Jason Witten this fall and none of them will be 100 percent. Yes, that's their entire offense. Dallas' offensive line is still a disaster as well and I see them running the ball a lot in order to protect Tony Romo. When they do drop back to pass I'm sure the New York pass rush is going to be all over Romo, that will prevent Dallas from dialing up many deep throws and should minimize the number of big plays. The Dallas defense has had an excellent camp and they look like a Top 10 unit. They finally put some focus on shoring up the secondary and it looks like it could be paying off. I think that they are going to have a strong showing against the Giants in this opener as well. Finally, it is opening night. The first quarter of this game will likely be both teams kind of stretching their legs and dancing around the ring as they really get things going on the season. This is a divisional game and a rivalry game and I think I think that this one is a little tight late in the game. I will call for this one to be 23-14 Giants.

Dallas Cowboys vs. New York Giants

The 2012 NFL season kicks of on Wednesday night with the Super Bowl
Champion New York Giants likely to receive a stiff test from the Dallas Cowboys and
their improved defense at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ at 8:30 ET
in a game carried on NBC. The Giants won a pseudo playoff game the last
time these clubs met in the regular season finale last season where the winner
would be the NFC East Champion and the loser would be out of the playoffs,
so New York came that close to not even having a chance to make its great
Super Bowl run.

The Giants swept the two meetings between these teams last year because
Giant quarterback Eli Manning was able to torch the poor Dallas secondary,
first passing for an even 400 yards in Arlington and then throwing for 346 yards
in the decisive finale. Well, he may not be as successful this year as the
Cowboys have gone from having one of the worst pass defenses in the NFL last
year to suddenly having a formidable cornerback tandem, as they drafted
Morris Claiborne out of LSU in the first round and they signed the best
cornerback on the free agent market in Brandon Carr. It may have been only
preseason, but the fact that the starting unit did not allow more than six points in
any game while it was in there has to be an encouraging sign. The offense
is not much of a concern, especially with wide receiver Dez Bryant avoiding a
suspension after his DUI arrest. Tony Romo threw for nearly 4200 yards
while completing 66.3 percent of his passes last season and running back Demarco
Murray ran for 897 yards despite starting only seven games, averaging 5.5
yards per carry. He should be in line for a huge season now that he is the
starter from Day 1.

Speaking of rushing, the Giants were an oddity last year in that they won
the Super Bowl despite ranking dead last in the NFL in rushing. That should
give you an idea of just how great a year Manning had as he was passing
against defenses that were mainly focusing on the pass, and yet still threw for
over 4900 yards and 29 touchdowns while averaging a good 8.4 yards per pass
attempt. He may need some support from the running game here though given
Dallas's duo of shutdown corners, and with Brandon Jacobs now a 49er, Ahmad
Bradshaw is the every-down back for the first time in his career. The problem
with that is that Bradshaw has been rather injury prone in his career, and
that is even while sharing the workload. However, rookie running back David
Wilson out of Virginia Tech looked terrific during preseason and he is almost
certain to spell Bradshaw at certain points of this game. Wilson could end
up being a key piece to the Giant puzzle before this season is through.

When the Giants won and covered that last game last year, it snapped a
streak where the underdogs had gone 5-0 ATS in the previous six meetings. Also,
these teams have become accustomed to playing high scoring affairs with the
'over' going 8-3 in the last 11 encounters.

...When they defeated the Patriots in the 2008 Super Bowl, the next year they missed the playoffs with an 8-8 record...

INCORRECT, sir. G-Men went 12-4 and earned top seed in the Playoffs in 2008, but then lost to the Eagles 23-11 in the Divisional round.
