**PREFERRED
Miami-FL* over Duke by 7
We had the ‘NC State over Duke’ last Saturday, and since Duke has yet to prove its
mettle as a true-road favorite against decent competition, here we go again. Senior
guards on Miami, and some injury issue on Duke that may or may not be cleared up
by the time this game arrives. Either way, though…
MIAMI, 70-63

Indiana* over Penn State by 26
Saint Louis over Duquesne* by 4
Northeastern* over William & Mary by 15
Ball State* over Buffalo by 1

Youngstown State over Wright State* by 6
Not that it’s a bad match-up for Wright State, but it’s a fourth straight road game for
them.

**PREFERRED
Auburn over Vanderbilt* by 5
Wouldn’t be surprised to see Vandy take the Tigers lightly. It’s not like Vandy can fill
the net to make a margin via slick offense. Also, Vandy is an atrocious 58% from the
free-throw line. Their near-win against Kentucky was an overrated effort and will
probably cause them to be overrated for the near future.
AUBURN, 68-63

NBA BASKETBALL

Atlanta over *Charlotte by 7
Atlanta has beaten Charlotte seven straight times, including all three meetings this season with a winning margin of 12 points per game.
ATLANTA 109-102

**PREFERRED
Toronto over *Miami by 1
Toronto might be able to take advantage of Miami being rusty. The Heat have been
hanging around in South Beach having not played in five days. That’s too much rest.
The Raptors had covered eight of their last nine Eastern Conference games through
Jan. 12. Their young players will be psyched to go against superstars LeBron James and
Dwayne Wade.
TORONTO 104-103

*Chicago over Detroit by 7
The Pistons have lost 16 in a row to the Bulls, including 108-104 in the team’s last
matchup on Dec. 7.
CHICAGO 98-91

Brooklyn over *Minnesota by 4
So far the coaching change from Avery Johnson to P.J. Carlesimo has worked in
Brooklyn’s favor. The Nets went 7-1 in their first eight games under Carlesimo. We
wouldn’t want to lay too many road points, though, with the Nets if Gerald Wallace
(check status) hasn’t returned to the lineup by this time.
BROOKLYN 102-98

**PREFERRED
Denver over *Houston by 8
This is a promising spot for the Nuggets. Denver has been idle since Sunday, while the
Rockets are playing for the first time since returning home yesterday from a four-game
road trip. So the Rockets may not be fully focused.
DENVER 113-105

*Memphis over Los Angeles Lakers by 8
The Lakers, like many teams, usually encounter problems in Memphis and have yet
to turn things around. The Grizzlies have covered 64 percent of their first 17 games at
FedEx Forum.
MEMPHIS 106-98

*San Antonio over New Orleans by 14
The Hornets are playing much better, but this is a big revenge spot for the Spurs. San
Antonio committed 19 turnovers and missed 15 of 21 from 3-point range in a 95-88
road loss to the Hornets on Jan. 7.
SAN ANTONIO 107-93

**PREFERRED
*Utah over Washington by 20
John Wall is back to shore up the Wizards’ backcourt. Still, this has all the makings of
a kill spot for Utah. The Jazz have been idle since Saturday, were 4-1 ATS when laying more than six points through this past Friday and had covered 66 percent of their
first 15 home games.
UTAH 105-85

*Portland over Indiana by 2
Portland entered the mid-part of the month riding a nine-game home winning streak
getting big production from rookie point guard Damon Lillard. The Pacers are playing in their second of four consecutive road matchups.
PORTLAND 94-92

*Sacramento over Phoenix by 2
Phoenix has defeated the Kings four straight times, including 101-90 at home on Dec.
17. This is Sacramento’s first home game after a three-game road swing that ended this
past Monday.
SACRAMENTO 102-100

Oklahoma City over Golden State by 5
The Thunder have been highly reliable as road chalk going 8-1 ATS when laying four
or more points and 7-2 ATS when playing on the road versus a foe with a winning
home mark through Jan. 12.
OKLAHOMA CITY 107-102

The Goldsheet

★★★SOUTHERN MISS 82 - Marshall 61—Tallish but slowish MU hasn’t
demonstrated any interest on the stop end away from home, going 0-5 as a road
dog, while allowing a whopping 87 ppg. That negative Herd trend should
continue vs. uptempo USM (78 ppg), pining to settle a score after LY’s 73-62
upset loss in the C-USA tourney. The ball-thievin’ Golden Eagles (11.8 spg; 2nd
nationally) will annoy MU’s mistake-prone PG DeAndre Kane, who has 3-ormore
miscues in the last six games. And kudos to USM’s first-year HC Donnie
Tyndall (former Morehead honcho), who quickly sold his new system and
philosophy to a team that lost four key performers from LY. 11-USM -5 67-63,
MAR -2' 79-75, Mar +2 73-62 (CT-neut.)

★★★St. John’s 67 - RUTGERS 61—We’ll side with Steve Lavin’s scrappy
St. John’s side that not only proved it could win on the Big East trail in last
Saturday’s win at DePaul, but also that it was immune to letdowns, with that
victory coming after its rousing midweek win over Notre Dame. Lavin getting
consistent contributions from 6-8 frosh F Jakarr Sampson (13.6 ppg) to
effectively complement high-scoring G DeAngelo Harrison (19.6 ppg).
Meanwhile, Rutgers HC Mike Rice not getting much scoring help from his
frontline, as most of the Scarlet Knight “O” being generated from Gs Eli Carter
(16.2 ppg) & Myles Mack (12.9 ppg). 11-RUT -7' 61-58

★★★OREGON 80 - Washington St. 57—With first-place Oregon 5-0 in
league play for the first time since back in 1974 (!) when the conference was still
the Pac-8, time to roll with the hot Ducks, with their confidence building with
every win. Oregon’s impressive frosh G pair of 6-1 Dominic Artis & 6-5
Damyean Dotson are now combining for more than 20 ppg to go with HC Dana
Altman’s very long & useful group of four senior players rotating up front. WSU
could not match up with Oregon LY; same deal TY. 11-Ore +4' 92-75, ORE -6'
78-69

★★★Indiana 91 - PORTLAND 81—Portland beginning to lose its grip after
mostly-impressive work in first two months of season, as Blazers took a 5-game
SU losing streak into Monday night’s game at Rose Garden vs. Wizards. Most
onlookers suggest the team is looking tired, as HC Terry Stotts has been
reluctant to go too deep into thin bench, with starters now paying the price for an
excessive workload. Until Portland can fortify its bench, we’ll be reluctant to
back Blazers vs. competent opposition such as Indiana, which has used NBA’s
best scoring defense (allowing mere 89.6 ppg) to stay afloat in Danny Granger’s
season-long absence and has now won 16 of last 21 SU after MLK Day matinee
win over Grizzlies. Meanwhile, Pacers compensating for Granger’s absence on
attack with third-year ex-Fresno State swingman Paul George (19.7 ppg), who
has emerged as a legit go-to option and scored 31 in recent home win over
Rockets. “Totals” alert—Indiana “under” 12-3 last 15 after Monday’s 82-81 win
at Memphis. 12-IND -4 99-92 (187); 11-IND -3 92-75 (191)

Study Group: Wednesday's Top 25 NCB Betting Notes

Check out our quick-hitting betting notes on all of Wednesday’s ranked college basketball games:

(9) Butler Bulldogs at La Salle Explorers (Pick)

Butler probably shouldn't have a problem putting Saturday’s thrilling buzzer-beating victory over Gonzaga behind it when the Bulldogs travel to La Salle. The Bulldogs’ 64-63 victory over the then eighth-ranked Zags is Butler’s 13th victory in a row, and third this season over a top 10 squad. The Bulldogs continue to play well despite not having leading scorer Rotnei Clarke, who will miss his third consecutive game with a sprained neck. The Explorers are 3-3 in their past six games, falling 70-63 most recently at Xavier. Wednesday’s game matches two of the top scoring teams in the A-10 (La Salle is third at 72.8; Butler is fourth at 72.0). La Salle is 1-5 ATS in its last six games overall.

(1) Duke Blue Devils at Miami Hurricanes (+2.5)

The Blue Devils are 16-1 this season, but lost their only previous road game against North Carolina State on January 12. Duke is allowing 88.4 points per 100 possessions this season; on pace for the team's best defensive efficiency since the 1997-98 season. The Hurricanes’ ball control could limit Duke’s easy buckets. The Blue Devils lead the ACC with 19.1 points per game off turnovers and Miami surrenders a league-low 9.6 points per game off turnovers. The Blue Devils are 1-5-2 ATS in the last eight meetings between the schools.

Penn State Nittany Lions at (8) Indiana Hoosiers (-26)

Indiana should have ample opportunity to get its slumping bench back on track when it hosts Penn State on Wednesday. The Hoosiers have gotten 11 points and 3-for-24 shooting from their reserves in the last three games, and although they won two of them, a lack of depth does not bode as the rigors of Big Ten Conference play are just getting started. The Nittany Lions have lost six straight - all Big Ten games - by an average of 13.2 points, although they came closest to snapping the skid in Saturday's 68-64 loss to Nebraska. Penn State ranks last in the Big Ten in scoring defense (66.9 points), 3-point shooting percentage (28.4) and turnover margin (minus-1.22). The Nittany Lions are 1-4 ATS in their last five games overall.

Colorado State Rams at (17) New Mexico Lobos (-5)

The Lobos have been off for a week since escaping with an overtime victory last Wednesday at Boise State. New Mexico leading scorer Kendall Williams returned to the starting lineup after sitting out the previous game against Fresno State for being late to a meeting for a third time this season. Colorado State is coming off an upset victory Saturday against then-No. 23 UNLV, extending its home-winning streak to 24 games. The Lobos also have a killer home advantage. New Mexico averages 14,799 fans for its home games, more than six NBA teams. The Rams are 9-2 ATS in their last 11 games against Mountain West foes.

(7) Florida Gators at Georgia Bulldogs (+17)

Florida provided SEC newcomers Texas A&M and Missouri a rude welcome to the heart of SEC play last week, beating the two newest members of the conference by a combined 52 points. The seventh-ranked Gators are red hot, winners of six in a row. Georgia notched its first conference victory on Saturday, beating LSU at home 67-58 in a matchup of SEC cellar-dwellers. The Bulldogs lost their first three conference games by a combined 61 points, including a 77-44 blowout loss to the Gators on Jan. 9 in Gainesville. The Gators lead the SEC and rank third nationally in scoring defense (51.7). Florida is 5-0 ATS in its last five overall.

(12) Creighton Bluejays at Drake Bulldogs (+11.5)

Creighton, which had its 11-game win streak snapped at Wichita State on Saturday, hits the road to take on I-80 rival Drake. The Bluejays are arguably the nation's top offensive team, beginning the week leading the nation in field goal percentage (51.8), 3-point percentage (45.2) and 3-pointers per game (9.6) while ranking second in 2-point field goal percentage (56.1). The Bulldogs average 72.4 points per game but are allowing an average of 74.1 per contest and have been outrebounded by 4.1 boards per game. The Bluejays are 4-0-1 ATS in their last five road games.

(21) Wichita State Shockers at Missouri State Bears (+11)

After snapping Creighton’s 11-game winning streak with a 67-64 victory on Saturday, Wichita State looks to avoid a letdown when the Shockers visit Missouri State. Missouri State has lost three straight, including last Saturday’s 69-66 loss at Bradley. The Bears are hoping to build on their second-half effort against the Braves, when they scored 46 points and shot a season-high 58.3 percent. The Shockers boast the top defense in the conference, allowing 60.1 points per game and will be facing the lowest scoring team in Missouri State (59.7). The Bears are 6-1 ATS in their last seven games overall.

(14) Minnesota Golden Gophers at Northwestern Wildcats (+9)

The Golden Gophers look to avoid a third straight defeat by ending a four-game road losing streak to Northwestern. The Wildcats are coming off a 67-59 home loss to then-No. 2 Indiana on Sunday, three days after beating then-No. 23 Illinois 68-54 on the road. Northwestern has been inconsistent in conference play, winning its last two road games by a total of 30 points while its losses - all at home - have come by an average of 18.3 points. The Golden Gophers are 8-1 ATS in their last nine vs. Big Ten foes.

Washington State Cougars at (19) Oregon Ducks (-10)

Oregon took over sole possession of the Pac-12 Conference lead by snapping UCLA's 10-game winning streak Saturday. The Ducks, who are 5-0 in conference play for the first time in 39 years, look to extend their own streak when they hosts Washington State. Oregon has won seven in a row and 11 of its last 12 games. It has also won 18 straight at home. The Cougars have struggled to score all season long and failed to reach 50 points for the second time this season, dropping a 58-49 home decision against Colorado last time out. Washington State ranks 266th in the nation averaging 63.3 points a game. The Cougars are 0-4 ATS in their last four road games.

(25) San Diego State Aztecs at Nevada Wolf Pack (+6)

San Diego State has lost back-to-back games for the first time this season, and the Aztecs are mired in a minor shooting slump after shooting 35.6 percent in their last three games. Aztecs starting point guard Xavier Thames has missed two of his last four games with a lower back strain, and it’s unclear whether he’ll be available against the Wolf Pack. Nevada’s defense ranks last in the conference, surrendering 70.2 points per game. The Wolf Pack are 1-4 ATS in their last five overall.

NBA's Best Foul Shooting Teams are also its Best Bets

Nothing can make or break your NBA bet like free-throw shooting.

It’s happened to every bettor. Your bet is looking good until the final minute of a game. And then the foul-induced free throw fest begins. The final 60 seconds of any given NBA game can seem like it takes an eternity to finish, and it can certainly make or break your wager.

It’s no coincidence that some of the top free-throw shooting teams in the Association are also very profitable bets. In fact, the top five foul shooting teams this season have a combined 118-84-5 ATS record heading into action Tuesday night.

Let’s take a look at the TOP TEAMS from the charity stripe and their respective ATS records:

Oklahoma City Thunder (83.8 percent from the line, 24-15-2 ATS)

The Thunder are by far the best team in the league from the line. Six players on their roster shoot over 80 percent from the stripe and even big man Serge Ibaka boasts a 76 percent free-throw percentage. Not to mention Kevin Martin and Kevin Durant are the best shooters from 15 feet out in the league. Oklahoma City is the second-best bet with a 24-15-2 ATS mark.

Golden State Warriors (79.8 percent from the line, 23-16-1 ATS)

The Warriors have 10 players that shoot 70 percent or better from the line, led by sharp-shooter Stephen Curry’s 89 percent stroke. Golden State is the eighth-best bet with a 23-16-1 ATS record.

Dallas Mavericks (79.4 percent from the line, 23-19-0 ATS)

The Mavericks boast eight players on their roster that shoot over 80 percent from the charity stripe and surprisingly Dirk Nowitzki (77%) isn’t one of them. Dallas has covered in seven straight games to improve its overall ATS record to 23-19-0.

San Antonio Spurs (79.2 percent from the line, 25-18-1 ATS)

The Spurs are stacked with sharpshooters that thrive on free-throw attempts. San Antonio has 12 players that shoot 70 percent or better and not a single baller worse than 66 percent (Boris Diaw).

Memphis Grizzlies (79.2 percent from the line, 23-16-1 ATS)

Memphis has become one of the better bets because of its tenacious defense (89.4 ppg) and proficiency from the line. Marc Gasol is one of the best bigs from the stripe with an 88 percent mark. The Grizzlies are fifth in the league in free-throw percentage and that has translated into an equal fifth-best ATS mark.

Nine NBA Betting Trends to Consider

Bettors are always looking for a handicapping edge.

We rummaged through our stats to uncover some interesting NBA trends to assist you with your capping of the hardcourt.

Here are nine NBA trends for bettors to consider early this week:

Toronto Raptors

The Raptors have played over the total in five consecutive games, allowing opponents to score an average of 107.6 points in the process. Toronto travels to South Beach to face a potent Heat offense Wednesday.

Denver Nuggets

The Nuggets have also played over the number in five consecutive contests. Denver has turned up the heat on offense, scoring 111.4 points per game during that stretch. The Nuggets travel to Houston Wednesday to play the Rockets, who have a 24-19 over/under record.

Orlando Magic

The Magic have been a red-hot over bet, playing over the total in 12 of their last 13 games. Orlando faces a 195.5-point total in Detroit Tuesday night.

Phoenix Suns

The Suns have played under the total in five straight games. Phoenix is averaging 87.8 points per game during the streak, 7.6 points than its season output. The Suns visit the Kings Wednesday night.

Dallas Mavericks

The Mavericks are riding a profitable seven-game cover streak into Friday’s home game with the Spurs.

Washington Wizards

We identified the Wizards as the hottest ATS bet in the Association in last week’s edition of Bank Shots. Washington has covered in seven straight games and nine of its last 10. The Wiz look to keep it going in Utah Wednesday night.

Houston Rockets

The Rockets went on a ridiculous 11-1 ATS run through the holiday season, but have failed to cover in their last eight games. Houston hosts Denver Wednesday.

Memphis Grizzlies

The Grizz have been a good under bet all season long thanks to their ball-hawking defense. Memphis has gone low in five straight games and host the Lakers Wednesday.

San Antonio Spurs

The Spurs have also played under in their last five games and have dates with the Hornets and Mavericks up next. San Antonio played under the number in both of its previous contests against those teams.

See Spot. See Spot Bet: This Week's Best Spot Bet Opportunities

Spot bets are a classic handicapping practice that have proven profitable no matter what sport you’re betting. Whether it’s a team looking past this week’s opponent, one coming off a hard-fought victory, or a rough patch of schedule, bettors can find value picking their spots.

Letdown Spot

UCLA is trying to keep pace in the Pac-12 and needs a win over Arizona Wednesday night to do so. The Bruins, at 15-4 and 5-1 in the conference, took a step back with a loss to Oregon Saturday. They travel to Arizona for this highly-anticipated matchup Thursday then head to Tempe two days later to face Arizona State.

The Sun Devils are no pushovers at 14-4 heading into Thursday’s game with USC, and will be playing their third straight in-state game when UCLA comes to town. Expect a young Bruins team to be suffering from an Arizona hangover – win or lose Thursday - entering the weekend.

Lookahead Spot

The frantic pace of the lockout-shortened NHL season doesn’t give teams much time to think about the upcoming slate. But with the way the Pittsburgh Penguins have opened the season, upcoming opponents are circling the Pens on the calendar.

The Ottawa Senators could get caught looking ahead to Sunday’s date with Pittsburgh before they visit the Tampa Bay Lightning Friday. Not only are the Sens vulnerable to the lookahead but they could also be terribly flat thanks to a two-game stay in the Sunshine State (play the Panthers Thursday). Florida’s balmy weather is a far cry from the bitter Ottawa nights.

Schedule Spot

NBA bettors will know if the Oklahoma City Thunder are for real as they close out a six-game road trip this week. The Thunder split overtime games in Dallas and Denver and have a huge Western Conference showdown with the L.A. Clippers Tuesday.

That outing opens a stretch of four games in six nights, starting in L.A., then to Golden State, Sacramento and finally back to La-La-Land to take on the Lakers. When it’s all said and done, Oklahoma City will have played nine of 10 games away from home - starting back on Jan. 11. With another close contest expected Tuesday, the Thunder could be on fumes by the time this trip is over.

93% of the public on the Blue Devils, this falls right into our 80/20 betting system. ALWAYS GO WITH POINT SPREADS AIMED AT SUCKERS! If a number looks funny always side with the people who set it.The only thing the public knows about Duke is that they are ranked #1 in the country right now, so they can't bet a short number on Duke fast enough. Blue Devils lack some of their early-season dimensions as long as versatile 6-11 F Ryan Kelly remains sidelined. Miami HC Jim Larranaga’s pet “scramble” defense is even more disruptive now that he has more athletes at his disposal than he did at George Mason, and the Canes haven’t allowed more than 59 points during their current 5-game win streak that has put them squarely on the Big Dance radar. PLAY #748.

Game: Minnesota at Northwestern (9:00 PM Eastern)
Pick: Minnesota -8.5 (-110)
Northwestern may be a pesky team sometimes, as they showed vs. Indiana. But, they can also be blown out because the talent level isn't up to Big-10 standards. That was on display vs. Iowa and Michigan at home, losing by a combined 48 points. The Wildcats also have an outside the conference hoe loss with a 20-point stumble to Maryland. This Minnesota team is 15-3 and is equally capable of throwing the dagger of another 20+ point loss for the Wildcats. The Golden Gophers are coming off of two tough losses to Indiana, and Michigan, so they are going to come ready to play here. The Gophers have a serious road pedigree at 14-3 ATS in their last 17, they also have the moxie, and the reason to win big here. Go with Minnesota.

College Basketball Game of the Year

8-Unit Play. #790 Take Houston (-4) over Tulsa (8 p.m., Wednesday, January 23)

Houston's early struggles in conference play definitely helped lower this number, and for us to get the Cougars at home minus a very modest line is something we cannot pass up. We pegged Houston as a potential play for our Game of the Year over a week ago, and I see them dismissing the Golden Hurricane comfortably here. The Cougars are an impressive 9-2 at home, scoring 79.8 points on their own gym. Tulsa is very clearly a much weaker team away from home. 3-5 on the road and they are scoring just 61.9 in these games. And not only do the numbers back up at Houston is a drastically better team at home compared to Tulsa on the road, but home cooking has dominated this series more recently. Six of the last eight meetings against the spread have gone to the home team, while four straight and seven of the last eight games outright have been won by the home team when these two have played. In this one, not only is the home team going to win, but Houston is going to do it by double digits. Also consider that Tulsa is without two key contributors to their team. Leading scoring Rashad Smith has played only four games and remains out. D'Andre Wright will be sidelined as well, and their combined 22 points and ten rebounds only puts this game over the top as far as backing Houston. Not only are we on the better team but also the one playing with a little more urgency. Losers of three straight (albeit two of those were road games), Houston is in need of a win. At 12-5 overall, there is plenty of time to position themselves for the C-USA tournament. The outright regular season champ doesn't mean much here and since no one team is really a lock for the NCAA Tournament, what matters in C-USA is the postseason tournament come March. Right now though, this game is all about the Cougars. We've found an optimum spot for them to cash at home and only have to lay a few points in the process. Look for Houston to at the very least double up the spread on the scoreboard and get back in the win column with a quality victory.

3-Unit Play. #795 Take Bradley (+8) over Evansville (8 p.m., Wednesday, January 23)

I think the Braves are fully capable of winning this game. They are every bit as good as Evansville, and really with both 4-3 in the league to this point, I see a better chance of the underdog putting out the victory in a close game than the home favorite could potentially make this one a one-sided affair. Grab the number with Bradley.

3-Unit Play. #747 Take Duke -2 over Miami (FL) (Wednesday @ 7 pm est)
This play comes down to the question of if I think Miami is really this good? No, I do not. Plus, with Duke having lost it's last road game to N.C. State as well has having the Hurricanes beat them in Cameron Indoor last season, it's time for some payback and to avoid another road loss in the ACC. And with center Reggie Johnson still out, I think the Blue Devils control the glass and really force Miami to beat them on the perimeter. I do not think they can do that. Even with the Dukies' latest road loss, they are 9-2 ATS in their last eleven away from Durham. Plus, this is only a square bet on the favorites if they lose. Here I think they earn a quality road conference 'W'.
3-Unit Play. #795 Take Bradley +8 over Evansville (Wednesday @ 8 pm est)
There's just not this many points between these two 4-3 Missouri Valley teams no matter who's playing host when the two play. But considering it's Bradley that's catching points, we'll grab them and the Braves as the underdog in this spot. I genuinely think it's a coin flip who wins this game. Neither team shows me enough to think they can pull away from the other, so the value is with the points in what should be a close game. It's 12-7 Bradley v. 11-8 Evansville. All stats and play on the court suggest this number is too high. Give me the Braves here.
5-Unit Play. #816 Take New Mexico State -2 over Denver (Wednesday @ 11 pm est)
(Game of the Week)
Two of the the top teams in the WAC square off, and both have been great over the last two weeks. But the common denominator in both teams' winning ways has been home court cooking. And here it's the Aggies who are at home, a place where they are 9-1 this season. Denver is just 3-5 on the road this season and a much bigger sample size shows the Pioneers aren't very good away from home. Denver is 15-36 ATS in their last 51 games on the road over the last couple of seasons. And with New Mexico State trailing by one game to tonight's opponents in the standings, they'll be on their A-game to even things up. And not only has New Mexico State won at home, but they've done so convincingly. Each of their past five games at home have been won by double figures. Not sure if this one will be another rout, but I definitely think more home success is the result. 24-9-1 ATS in New Mexico State's last 34 home games, this is another victory and cover for the home Aggies.

Indian Cowboy's Picks For NBA Basketball
3-Unit Play. Take #712 Memphis -4 over Los Angeles Lakers (9:05 p.m., Wednesday January 23)

Why not should be the question here! The Lakers are playing some horrible basketball on the road and in their last game against Chicago the Lakers 4th quarter play was pathic. The Lakers have dropped 6-straight road games and 5 of those losses they gave up 100 points or more and if this Laker squad struggles tonight the Lakers again are in trouble. Enough about the Lakers drama! Monday the Grizzlies dropped a hoe game against the Pacers so tonight I look for a much focus Memphis team and tonight I see a big game from point guard Mike Conley. The Lakers always struggle with fast point guards and if Nash or Kobe can't slow down Mike Conley the Grizzlies win this home game with breeze.
Indian Cowboy's Picks For NHL Hockey
3-Unit Play. #4 Take New York Rangers -125 vs. Boston (Wednesday @ 7:35 pm est)
The Rangers instantly became one of the most dangerous teams in the East with the acquisition of former Columbus Blue Jackets captain Rick Nash. However, New York Rangers goalie Henrick Lundqvist is this team's MVP and solving his mastery in between the pipes is never easy. Henrik Lundqvist has been phenomenal and will be tough to solve and goals should be at a premium at Madison Square Garden. The Rangers have surprisingly allowed nine goals over the course of two games. They did that only once last season -- in Games (81) and (82) against the Penguins (5-2 loss) and Capitals (4-1 loss). The Rangers are (0-2) to start the season and last season, the Rangers lost three straight in regulation just once. The Bruins are one of the most well-balanced teams in the NHL but when goaltender Tim Thomas decided he would take the upcoming season off to spend more time with his family, it left a terrific young goalie, Tuukka Rask, to seize the opportunity as the heir apparent between the pipes. Tough assignment here, starting on the road against the "Blue Shirts" at Madison Square Garden just four days after conquering New York in ?Bean Town? as on Saturday, the Bruins cruised to a (3-1) victory at TD Garden. The Bruins are (3-11) in the last (14) meetings in New York and the Rangers are (5-1) in their last (6) games following a home loss of (3) or more goals.

Duke (-3) over MiamiFlorida
7:00 PM -- BankUnited Center
Duke (16-1) -3 over MIAMI (13-3) Prediction: Duke by 7-8 Played at BankUnited Center (8,000) in Coral Gables, Florida Starting Time: 7:05 TV; ESPN Comments: Miami’s second-year Coach Jim Larranaga is working the same magic at Miami he worked in 14 seasons at George Mason and the Hurricanes are certain to use a lock-down defense that gives up just 61.5 points per game to give top-ranked Duke all it can handle tonight. Miami is a very good basketball team, is undefeated at home (10-0) this season and will be playing before the first sell-out crowd in the history of the BankUnited Center but the figures say Duke has the talent and big-game experience to get the job done. The Blue Devils are loaded from top to bottom with nothing but blue-chip players who give Duke the kind of depth it takes to win in such tough spots. The same figures say Miami can play its best game and still not get it done—and that screams loudly for the play on Duke.

7:00 PM -- Tom Gola Arena
Butler (16-2) +2 ½ over LaSalle (12-5)
Prediction: by 5-6
Played at Tom Gola Arena (3,400) in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Starting Time: 7:05
No TV
Comments: Let’s cut right to the chase. Yes, Butler will again be without leading scorer Rotnei Clark but they were without him in their last game and still got it done 64-63 home win over 10th-ranked Gonzaga as a 2-point underdog. With all due respect to LaSalle the Explorers, they have done nothing to merit being a favorite against a true-grit, tenacious, relentless, Bulldog-tough Butler team that just finds ways to win. I look for Butler to bring a game plan built around a lock-down defense and get the job done. I guarantee you LaSalle has not seen anything like it this season.

10 UnitsCharlotte (-3) over Xavier
7:30 PM -- Halton Arena
CHARLOTTE (15-3) -3 over Xavier (11-6)
Prediction: Charlotte by 9-10
Played at Halton Arena (9,105) in Charlotte, North Carolina
Starting Time: 7:35
No TV
Comments: Charlotte is one of the most under-rated teams in the country, is 9-0 at home and has every single edge over an Xavier team that has been up-and-down all season. The Musketeers come into this game off a 70-63 win at LaSalle—a game in which they hit 57.8% from the field. It was their fourth straight win after losing four straight and put them in a strong negative bounce mode. Charlotte is in the right spot and the right time to get it done tonight.

25* Atlantic 10 GAME OF THE YEAR on St. Joseph's -7

Simply put, the St. Joseph's Hawks have underachieved this season with a 10-6 start despite returning all five starters from last season. However, that works to our advantage here as they are clearly undervalued as only a 7-point home favorite over St. Bonaventure (8-9).

St. Joseph's has really started showing signs of being undervalued by going a perfect 3-0 ATS in their last three games overall. They won at Duquesne 74-66 as a 6-point favorite and at Pennsylvania 79-59 as an 11.5-point favorite. They also lost at VCU 86-92 (OT) as a 12-point dog during this stretch.

St. Bonaventure has lost six of its last seven games overall. It is getting too much respect for its 81-78 win at Temple over the weekend, which has kept this line lower than it should be. The Bonnies are 2-6 in true road games this year, including recent ugly road losses to George Washington (59-78), Colorado State (64-85), and NC State (73-92).

Home-court advantage has been huge in this series. The home team is a perfect 6-0 SU & 4-1 ATS in the last six meetings. St. Joseph's has won 10 straight home meetings with St. Bonaventure. The last have all come by 7 points or more with victories by 14, 7, 11, 25, 31, 18 and 32 points. As you can see, their last seven home games in this series since 2004 have resulted in wins by an average of 19.7 points/game.

The Hawks are 7-0 ATS when playing against a team with a losing record over the last 2 seasons. They are winning in this spot by an average of 14.6 points/game. Bet St. Joseph's Wednesday.

15* Big East GAME OF THE NIGHT on St. John's +4.5

The St. John's Red Storm want revenge from their 56-58 home loss to Rutgers in their first meeting of the season on January 9th just two weeks ago. With home closely this series has been contested in recent years, there's no question the play is on the road dog tonight.

Incredibly, four straight meetings between St. John's and Rutgers have been decided by 3 points or less, and by a combined 9 points. The Red Storm are actually playing with double revenge having lost the last two in this series by a combined 5 points.

St. John's comes in playing very well having beaten Notre Dame 67-63 as a 7-point underdog, and also topping Depaul on the road 71-62 as a 3-point dog. Rutgers is coming off a heartbreaking 66-69 loss at Notre Dame and will suffer a hangover from that defeat.

Rutgers is 4-12 ATS as a favorite over the last 2 seasons. The Scarlet Knights are 1-8 ATS in their last 9 games following a ATS win. Rutgers is 10-26-1 ATS in its last 37 Wednesday games. The Scarlet Knights are 5-11 ATS in their last 16 vs. Big East opponents. The underdog is 10-1 ATS in the last 11 meetings. The road team is 4-0 ATS in the last 4 meetings. Take St. John's Wednesday.

15* Missouri Valley GAME OF THE NIGHT on Missouri State +11

The Missouri State Bears are one of the most underrated teams in the country. They are playing their best basketball of the season in MVC play, yet they keep getting treating like a bottom feeder in the conference from oddsmakers.

I'll gladly take advantage of this false perception and back the Bears as a double-digit home dog to Wichita State tonight. While Missouri State is just 3-4 in MVC play, it is a dominant 6-1 ATS on the season. It has been an underdog in all seven games, and only once has it lost by more than 8 points, and that came against Creighton.

Wichita State is in a huge letdown spot tonight. It came into the season as one of the favorites to win the MVC, right alongside Creighton. Well, the Shockers now have the inside track after beating Creighton 67-64 at home on Saturday. However, off such a big win, there's no question they have a letdown tonight against Missouri State.

The Shockers really haven't been impressive on the road at all this season. They have a 60-69 loss at Tennessee and a 67-71 loss at Evansville. They also beat Drake 75-63 and Bradley 69-63 on the road in MVC play, which is far from impressive.

Missouri State has not lost by more than 7 points to Wichita State in any of its last eight home meetings with the Shockers dating back to 2005. That makes for a perfect 8-0 system since 2005 backing the Bears pertaining to tonight's spread. Roll with Missouri State Wednesday.

15* Big Ten GAME OF THE NIGHT on Northwestern +9

The Northwestern Wildcats are showing awesome value as a 9-point home underdog to the Minnesota Golden Golphers tonight. Minnesota is clearly overvalued due to its 15-3 start and should not be this big of a favorite away from home where wins are very tough to come by in Big Ten play.

The Golden Gophers have finally come back down to earth with back-to-back losses to Indiana and Michigan, which are the two best teams in the Big Ten in my opinion. Minnesota's chances of winning the Big Ten took a big hit with those two defeats, and I look for it to suffer a mental hangover because of it.

It will be very tough for the Gophers to get up emotionally tonight to face a team that they already beat 69-51 at home on January 6th. There's no question that the Wildcats are going to be the more motivated team heading into this one as they want revenge from that loss that occurred just over two weeks ago.

Northwestern comes in playing its best basketball of the season. It won 68-54 at Illinois as a 10-point underdog on January 17th before coming back with a solid showing against Indiana at home on Sunday. It lost to the Hoosiers 59-67 as a 12.5-point underdog, and I believe it will stay within 9 points of the Gophers tonight as well.

The home team has won nine straight meetings in this series dating back to 2009. The home team is 7-1 ATS in the last 8 meetings. Bet Northwestern Wednesday.

15* NBA Wednesday Total ANNIHILATOR on Pistons/Bulls UNDER 183

The books have set the bar too high tonight in this contest between the Chicago Bulls and Detroit Pistons. I look for a low-scoring affair tonight as neither team exceeds 90 points in this one.

Chicago has been without leading scorer Luol Deng (17.4 PPG) in its last two contests, and with no surprise those two games have gone UNDER the number. Chicago lost at home to Memphis 82-85 (OT) on Saturday before beating the Lakers 95-83 on Monday. Deng remains questionable to return tonight.

This has been a low-scoring affair between the Bulls and Pistons in recent meetings. Not counting overtime, the Bulls and Pistons have combined for 182 or less points in four of their last five meetings. The four have been 182, 160, 164 and 172 points.

The UNDER is 3-0-1 in Pistons last 4 games playing on 0 days rest. The UNDER is 4-0-1 in Pistons last 5 after scoring 100 points or more in their previous game. The UNDER is 3-0-2 in Pistons last 5 games following a SU win of more than 10 points. The UNDER is 4-0 in the last 4 meetings in Chicago. These four trends combine for a perfect 14-0 system backing the UNDER. Also, the UNDER is 23-8 in Bulls last 31 home games. Roll with the UNDER in this game Wednesday.

20* NBA Western Conference GAME OF THE WEEK on New Orleans Hornets +10.5

The New Orleans Hornets head into this game with the San Antonio Spurs playing their best basketball of the season. They should not be catching double-digits tonight because of it.

New Orleans has gone 7-2 SU & 7-2 ATS in its last 9 games overall. This run has coincided with the return of G Eric Gordon from injury. He leads the team in scoring at 17.4 points per game. and he's played in just 10 games all season.

New Orleans has played San Antonio very tough this season. All three meetings have been decided by 7 points or less, including a 95-88 New Orleans home victory on January 7th. The Hornets also lost 95-99 at home on 10/31, and 94-99 on the road on 12/21.

This play falls into a system that is 41-13 (75.9%) ATS since 1996. It tells us to bet on road underdogs of 10 or more points (NEW ORLEANS) - after going over the total by 42 or more points total in their last five games against opponent after going under the total by 30 or more points total in their last five games.

The Hornets are 7-1 ATS in their last 8 vs. NBA Southwest. New Orleans is 5-1 ATS in its last 6 vs. Western Conference foes. The Hornets are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games playing on 1 days rest. The Spurs are 1-6 ATS in their last 7 when their opponent scores 100 points or more in their previous game. San Antonio is 4-10 ATS in its last 14 vs. Western Conference opponents. Bet the Hornets Wednesday.

Note: I locked in the Hornets early this morning before it was announced that Tim Duncan and Kawhi Leonard would be out, while Manu Ginobli is expected to return. I still recommend the Hornets +8.5 (the current line as of 2:00 EST) as a 20* play.

15* NBA Non-Conference KNOCKOUT on Washington Wizards +7

The Washington Wizards have been the best team to back in the NBA over the past couple weeks. They are playing their best basketball of the season right now, and they should not be a 7-point dog to the Utah Jazz tonight.

Washington is 5-2 SU and a perfect 7-0 ATS in its last seven games overall. Its only losses came 94-95 at Sacramento as a 5-point dog, and 87-94 at the Los Angeles Clippers as a 13-point dog.

The biggest reason for the Wizards' resurgence is that PG John Wall has returned to the line-up. He has been on board the past six games, so it's no surprise that they are playing their best basketball right now. Wall is averaging 14.0 points and 6.7 assists in six games this year.

This play falls into a system that is 46-22 (67.4%) ATS over the last 5 seasons. It tells us to bet against home favorites of 3.5 to 9.5 points (UTAH) - hot team - having covered 6 or 7 of their last 8 against the spread, with a winning percentage of between 45-55% on the season.

Washington is 10-1 ATS as a road underdog of 6.5 to 12 points this season. The Wizards are 9-0 ATS revenging a home loss vs opponent this season. The Jazz are 8-17 ATS in their last 25 games following a SU win of more than 10 points. Utah is 4-11 ATS in its last 15 games playing on 3 or more days rest. Take the Wizards Wednesday.

2-Units Take #718 Portland -1 over Indiana (10pm, Wednesday, January 23)
Important game for Portland who has dropped six straight games and has
a tough schedule on deck with back to back games against the Clippers.
Portland however isn't playing bad basketball losing all six of those
losses by six points or less. The Pacers sit ten games over .500 on the
year but have struggled on the road with a 9-13 record, the Pacers play
a very good brand of defensive basketball but struggle on offense
averaging just 92.1 points a game will be tested against a Blazers team
that can shot but lacks depth on their bench. Portland who lost on
December 5th in Indiana catches the Pacers at the right time with this
marking their fifth road game in their last six. Look for a energetic
and if not desperate effort from Portland, laying one here looks real
cheap.

1-Unit Take Under 207 Oklahoma City at Golden State (10:30 pm, Wednesday, January 23)
The Warriors catch the Thunder after playing in Los Angeles and beating
the Clippers 109-97 putting the Thunder over the total in their last
four games. We get a nice adjustment here in the market from the first
time these two played with Oklahoma City winning 119-109 that went over
the closing total of 207. I think we might see more of a slower tempo
with with the Thunder playing last night and this marking their third
in four nights in three different cities. I think Golden State would
welcome a slower style game also with the Thunder having the scores
that they have. I will take the added value built into this number.

702 CHL 4.5(-110) Hilton (http://www.pregame.com/en/main/sports-betting-lines-odds/) vs 701 ATL double-dime bet

Analysis: As bad as Charlotte is, the Hawks are in no position to lay this many points on the road.

Atlanta is 3-8 in its last 11 games and has lost its last six away games. The Hawks have a cluster injury problem in their backcourt and have averaged only 78.2 points during their past four road contests.

Charlotte has lost 15 in a row at home. The Bobcats nearly beat Houston in their last home game, losing 100-94 after blowing a seven-point fourth quarter lead.

The Bobcats won't lack for motivation not only wanting to end their embarrassing home losing streak, but they also have triple revenge incentive.

Charlotte's strength is its guard plays. The Bobcats' top four scorers are all guards. The Hawks are short-handed in the backcourt with Lou Williams out for the season and Devin Harris, DeShawn Stevenson and Anthony Morrow all missing Atlanta's last game this past Monday due Ï to injuries.

815 Denver / 816 NMex St OVER 114.5 Bookmaker.com (http://www.pregameaction.com/?page_id=8) triple-dime bet

Analysis:The oddsmaker has set a low total because the pace figures to be slow between these two WAC teams. Nonetheless, Denver has been a great over team on the road covering seven of its nine away matchups.
The Pioneers launch the second most 3-point attempts in the country. They rank 44th, too, making better than 37 percent from beyond the arc. New Mexico State ranks 146th in defending against 3-pointers. Denver has done a great job of protecting the ball lately, too, committing just seven turnovers during the past two games.
Denver is averaging 67 points in its last five games.
New Mexico State is the opposite. The Aggies attack the rim. They will do this against the Pioneers because they have a huge height advantage. The Pioneers don't have a starter above 6-foo-7. The Aggies are hitting nearly 46 percent of their field goal attempts. They rank in the top 60 in field goal percentage. I expect they will hit a higher percentage against the smaller Pioneers.
The Aggies aren't a great free throw shooting team, but they do get to the line a lot. The Aggies are averaging 74.2 points during their past seven games.

NBA - 703 Toronto Raptors @ 704 Miami Heat
Projected Line: 200 points
Miami is super rested for this game, as they haven't played over the last 5 days, while Toronto had 2 days off to prepare this game. The Heat won't have any problems in scoring near the basket today.

Toronto hasn't been protecting the rim well by allowing 66% FG this season, 71% FG on their last 10 games and 75% FG on their last 5 games! The fact that the Raptors have been playing shorthanded on the frontcourt doesn't help them at all and Miami will then have a big edge on this area every time Lebron James or Dwayne Wade penetrate into the basket tonight. Every time Toronto faces teams that like to attack on transition, they aren't capable of having good defensive numbers.

Charlotte scored 15 fast break points against them, Milwaukee scored 17 and even Philadelphia scored 16! No wonder that Toronto is just #17 on transition defense by allowing 1.15 PPP this season, while they are clearly on regression on this area right now, as they allowed 1.20 PPP on their last 10 games and 1.39 PPP on their last 5 games! Therefore, Miami's offense has a great spot for a big offensive performance tonight.

Regarding the Raptors's offense, Toronto is likely to play small ball tonight and Aaron Gray will barely play tonight, as he isn't needed on this game due to Miami's small ball lineups. Toronto's offense has been improving lately and on their last 12 games, they have averaged an offensive rating of 113.8, when they averaged just 105.5 on their first 29 games of the season! They have improved a lot on pick and rolls since Kyle Lowry came back and the combinations between their guards and Amir Johnson/Ed Davis is very interesting. Besides that, Toronto has been having good numbers on offensive rebounds and they will have an edge in here against the Heat. I believe Miami's mindset for tonight will be to win via shootout, therefore I'll be taking the Over in here.

4-STAR SACRAMENTO -3 over Phoenix - Every team reacts differently to a change at the head coaching position. However, that assumes the team was underachieving to begin with. Phoenix is simply achieving. Their problem wasn't at the coaching level but at the lack of cohesive talent level. Don't look for them to suddenly turn things around here.
Phoenix has been off five days after a 98-94 home loss to Milwaukee. They had led by double digits in the second half of that game. The Suns are 0-12-1 ATS (-5.8 ppg) since December 03, 2008 with at least one day of rest and a total of under 219 off a home loss in which they led by 10+ points.
Having 11 shots blocked didn't help the Suns cause in such a close loss. The Suns are 0-9 ATS (-8.7 ppg) since December 19, 2000 with two or more days of rest after a game in which they had at least 10 shots blocked.
They were led by Shannon Brown off the bench in that game with 20 points as Jared Dudley had 13. The Suns are 0-6 ATS (-5.7 ppg) since February 17, 2012 on the road after a loss at home in which Jared Dudley was not the Suns' high scorer.
Sacramento meanwhile had a difficult task of playing an afternoon game Monday and started off slow before falling 114-105 in New Orleans. They went just 3-of-15 on threes in the loss. The Kings are 8-0 ATS (6.9 ppg) since December 15, 2008 as a favorite with at most one day of rest after a game in which they scored less than 10% of their points from the three-point line.
These teams faced in November, with Phoenix winning at home. Jason Thompson played just 28 minutes in that loss. The Kings are 6-0 ATS (4.8 ppg) since November 07, 2008 as a favorite after losing the previous matchup in which Jason Thompson played fewer than 30 minutes.
SPORTSBOOK BREAKERS PREDICTION: SACRAMENTO 112, Phoenix 100
4-STAR Oklahoma City and Golden State Over 205.5 - With Chris Paul missing last night's game, Oklahoma City didn't have to throw everything in the tank to get by the Clippers. That means they still have something for tonight's game where they will face a jazzed up Golden State team and crowd with something to prove again here.
Oklahoma City won last night, 109-97 in LA. They shot 52.6% from the field and 85.7% from the foul line. The Thunder are 10-0 OU (14.9 ppg) since January 06, 2011 after a game on the road in which they shot at least 50% from the field and at least 85% from the free-throw line.
Those numbers helped them overcome five Russell Westbrook turnovers. The Thunder are 12-0 OU (12.5 ppg) since January 30, 2012 after a win on the road in which Russell Westbrook had at least 5 turnovers.
Kevin Durant had a big night with 32 points including going 5-of-6 on threes. The Thunder are 6-0 OU (17.1 ppg) since April 22, 2012 after a win on the road in which Kevin Durant shot better than 50% from the arc.
Golden State also played LA last, Monday and won, 106-99. The Warriors are 6-0 OU (6.7 ppg) since November 29, 2012 with at least a day of rest after a win at home.
It was Steph Curry with a big game there going 6-of-8 on threes with 28 points. The Warriors are 10-0-1 OU (9.9 ppg) since January 17, 2011 after a win at home in which Stephen Curry shot better than 50% from the arc.
These teams met in November with OKC winning 119-109. David Lee had 19 points and 10 boards in the loss. The Warriors are 7-0 OU (11.4 ppg) since February 02, 2012 at home after losing the previous matchup in which David Lee had a double double.
