UFC 156 betting: Three big bouts highlight main card
By MMAODDSBREAKER

On the eve of Super Bowl Sunday, the Ultimate Fighting Championship puts together a huge event of its own at UFC 156.

There are three massive bouts on the main card, headlined by a featherweight title fight between champion Jose Aldo and former lightweight belt holder Frankie Edgar. The experts at MMAOddsbreaker.com break down Saturday’s three big battles:

Jose Aldo (-205) vs. Frankie Edgar (+155)

UFC president Dana White got what he wanted with Edgar moving to featherweight, a logical decision considering his size when compared to some of the bigger lightweight contenders. While Edgar was able to win the title at 155 pounds, he belongs at 145 and will have to beat the best to become the champ in the division.

Aldo was originally scheduled to fight Erik Koch, who is not even in MMAOB’s Top 15 MMA Fighter Rankings at featherweight. When Koch pulled out of their fight due to injury, it made perfect sense for Edgar to step in despite suffering consecutive losses to Benson Henderson.

The problem is, Aldo is still the superior fighter and Edgar is jumping right into the fire rather than earning his way to a title shot. Aldo’s recent foot injury that pushed this fight back from UFC 153 is a minor concern, as a bigger one might be the layoff he has had since knocking out Chad Mendes at UFC 142 last January.

Regardless, Edgar’s heart gives him a chance, although a victory would likely set up a fourth straight rematch for him with Aldo getting an opportunity to win back his belt if he happens to lose.

Rashad Evans (-345) vs. Antonio Rogerio Nogueira (+265)

This is yet another mind-boggling matchup at light heavyweight between two guys who are simply going through the motions. Evans looks like he just wants to stay active without fighting a difficult opponent in the near future.

Enter “Little Nog”, who has not fought in nearly a year. Evans uses him a tuneup fight before attempting to work his way back into title consideration and a possible rematch with the champion Jon Jones.

What Evans might not realize is that he has a lot to lose here if he does fall to Nogueira, who is three inches taller and may have some surprises in store that could possibly lead to an upset win.

Alistair Overeem (-315) vs. Antonio Silva (+235)

Overeem is obviously awaiting his shot at the heavyweight title and this seems like a logical matchup since he was originally scheduled to fight Silva in the Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix. Silva ended up losing in the semifinals to Overeem’s injury replacement Daniel Cormier, who went on to win the tournament as an alternate.

Overeem will follow the same game plan Cain Velasquez used to beat Silva, using his heavy hands to pound out a victory. Silva is an equally large opponent but was definitely intimidated by Velasquez and will need to show no fear inside the Octagon to stand a chance.

Overeem has an extremely confident demeanor and will need to guard against becoming overconfident. Both men have the potential to score a knockout here, but Overeem has a big edge in terms of pure ability and fight experience.

Study group: Saturday's Top 25 NCAAB betting notes

The entire sports betting world is waiting for Sunday. But while you count the hours until Super Bowl XLVII, why not wager on Saturday's NCAAB Top 25 action. We have betting notes on all the games involving ranked teams:

Cincinnati Bearcats at Seton Hall Pirates (-4.5, 126.5)

Cincinnati has righted itself after a slow start in the Big East. The Bearcats have won four of their last five as they prepare for a two-game road trip, starting at struggling Seton Hall on Saturday. Cincinnati has not been as good on the offensive end during conference play, but has played solid defense when needed and is among the nation’s leaders in rebounding and blocked shots. The Bearcats have been comfortable on the road, winning seven of eight games away from their home court. Seton Hall looks to put it together with four of its next six contests at home. The Pirates have lost six of the last seven games after winning their Big East opener at DePaul. Seton Hall is averaging 17 turnovers in league play, most in the Big East, and seven more than its opponents.

Syracuse Orange at Pittsburgh Panthers (-4, 124)

No. 6 Syracuse looks to rebound from its first loss in more than a month when it travels to Pittsburgh on Saturday. The Orange had won eight in a row, including their first six in Big East play, before losing to Villanova 75-71 in overtime last Saturday. The Orange were already without senior swingman James Southerland (13.6 ppg) for the last four games after he was suspended indefinitely for academic issues on Jan. 12. Now the Syracuse front line has grown even thinner as freshman DaJaun Coleman underwent left knee surgery and will be sidelined four weeks. The Panthers had a four-game win streak snapped on Monday when No. 13 Louisville edged them 64-61 to avoid a fourth straight conference defeat. Pittsburgh is 0-5 when allowing opponents to score at least 65 points, and will have its hands full with Syracuse, which ranks 23rd in the nation at 77.1 points per game.

Auburn Tigers at Missouri Tigers (-16, 139)

Few teams have been better at home and worse on the road this season than No. 18 Missouri. Fortunately for one of the Southeastern Conference’s newest members, it will square off against Auburn for the first time ever in familiar surroundings. Missouri fell to 0-4 in true road games with Wednesday’s 73-70 setback against LSU, but has been a much different animal at home, going 12-0 and winning by an average of 19.8 points. Auburn hasn’t been doing a lot of winning regardless of the venue recently, dropping five straight after beginning league play with a 2-0 record. The offense has been particularly bad over the last four games and matched a season low in points during Wednesday’s 57-49 loss at Georgia.

Duke Blue Devils at Florida State Seminoles (+7, 140)

Fifth-ranked Duke is the highest rated team among ACC programs but is two games off the conference lead heading into Saturday’s game at Florida State. The Blue Devils are two games behind first-place Miami, with one of Duke’s two defeats coming when the Hurricanes posted a 90-63 victory on Jan. 23. The Blue Devils have little margin for error as they meet a Florida State squad that has won three of the last four meetings and defeated Duke in the semifinals of the ACC tournament last March. The Seminoles are 2-3 in their last five games, with both victories coming on last-second baskets by sharpshooter Michael Snaer. The latest dramatic ending came in Wednesday’s 73-71 victory over Maryland. Duke notched its first road victory of the season in three chances by beating Wake Forest 75-70 on Wednesday.

San Diego State Aztecs at Air Force Falcons (+3, 131)

Air Force is a surprise contender in the Mountain West and can take another pivotal step with an upset of No. 20 San Diego State on Saturday. The host Falcons and Aztecs are part of a four-team tie for second place. Air Force has been surprisingly good in coach Dave Pilipovich’s first full season at the helm. “Who knows if we’ll win another game, but we’re going to fight like heck,” Pilipovich said after the Falcons defeated Fresno State on Wednesday for their fourth straight win. “These guys have done a really good job.” San Diego State has won back-to-back games over Nevada and first-place New Mexico, both by 21 points. Coach Steve Fisher is mighty worried about the rising Falcons. “That will be an extremely difficult game and we need to come out with the same preparation, toughness and togetherness we did (against New Mexico),” Fisher said after the win over the Lobos. Air Force is 9-1 at home, all the victories coming by double digits.

Bradley Braves at Creighton Bluejays (-18, 143)

No. 17 Creighton hosts Bradley in search of its third straight Missouri Valley Conference victory. After consecutive losses to Wichita State and Drake, the Bluejays responded by beating Southern Illinois and Missouri State by a combined 44 points. Led by National Player of the Year candidate Doug McDermott (23.9 ppg, 7.4 rpg), Creighton is the most efficient shooting team in the nation at 52.1 percent. Bradley has bounced back from a 7-25 record last season, winning 10 of 12 games at home this year. On the road, however, the Braves are just 3-7 and winless in their last four tries. Bradley snapped a two-game losing streak Tuesday, beating Illinois State 83-77. Creighton has defeated the Braves 14 straight times at home and in 21 of the last 26 overall meetings. The Bluejays have also won all 25 of the head-to-head contests in which they’ve have tallied at least 70 points.

Oklahoma State Cowboys at Kansas Jayhawks (-11, 126)

No. 1 Kansas puts its 18-game winning streak, which is the nation's longest, on the line against an Oklahoma State squad that has won three of its last four games. The 18-game win streak is the third longest in the 10-year Bill Self era. The Jayhawks, who held on for a sloppy 61-56 win at West Virginia on Monday, also have won 33 straight games at Allen Fieldhouse which ranks second nationally and is tied for fourth best in school history. Oklahoma State is 0-4 on the road this season including Big 12 losses at Baylor (64-54), Oklahoma (77-68) and Kansas State (73-67). The Cowboys have lost five of the last six meetings with the Jayhawks and have lost 16 straight times to Kansas at Allen Fieldhouse dating back to 1990. Oklahoma State was picked to finish third behind Kansas and Baylor in the 2013 Big 12 Coaches Preseason Poll.

Miami Hurricanes at North Carolina State Wolfpack (-1.5, 134)

The Hurricanes, playing their second straight road game, will have their hands full with North Carolina State's high-scoring offense. Miami's tough defense, though, has helped it jump into the national rankings. A pair of freshmen will likely split time at point guard while North Carolina State junior Lorenzo Brown is sidelined with an injury. Miami will try to continue its run through the ACC with a trip to North Carolina State. The No. 15 Hurricanes have the league's best start since Duke went 10-0 in 2007-08. Both teams have wins against then-No. 1 Duke but the No. 19 Wolfpack has dropped three of five since their win.

Rhode Island Rams at Butler Bulldogs (-14, 123)

Butler figures to be one angry team when it hosts Rhode Island in Atlantic 10 play on Saturday. The No. 10 Bulldogs were routed 75-58 by Saint Louis on Thursday in an extremely one-sided contest. “We pretty much got punked,” senior guard Rotnei Clarke said afterwards. “End of story. There’s not really much to say about it. We got outclassed and we got punked.” Butler is in its first season in the A-10 and still learning the terrain. “We’ve got to bounce back from this,” Bulldogs coach Brad Stevens said afterward. The Bulldogs should have an easy time with the beleaguered Rams, who are in 15th-place in the 16-team conference. Rhode Island lost to Virginia Commonwealth 70-64 on Wednesday for its third straight loss. The Rams are just 2-5 on the road.

Wichita State Shockers at Northern Iowa Panthers (Pick, 119)

It's been since November of 2011 that No. 14 Wichita State lost consecutive regular-season games, and that's what the Shockers will try to avoid doing when they travel to Cedar Falls to take on Northern Iowa on Saturday. Wichita State climbed to its season high in the polls this week, but a loss to Indiana State on Tuesday will likely prevent the Shockers from moving higher next week. Northern Iowa, picked to finish third in the Missouri Valley this season, has been one of the conference's biggest disappointments. Playing away from the McLeod Center has been an absolute disaster for the Panthers with their 2-9 record in games outside Cedar Falls. Close games, like the most recent two Northern Iowa played, have been trouble as well. The Panthers lost to the Indiana State and Evansville by a combined four points.

Oregon Ducks at California Golden Bears (Pick, 137)

Oregon looks to bounce back from its stunning loss at Stanford when the Ducks complete their Bay Area swing against California, which is aiming to win back-to-back games for the first time in over a month. Oregon had its nine-game winning streak snapped Wednesday when the Ducks were crushed by Stanford 76-52 in a game that was never close. The Ducks entered the game as the last unbeaten team in conference play, but they came out flat and were dominated inside the paint. They’ve lost nine straight games to California, which leads the all-time series 80-55. The Bears are 48-13 against the Ducks at home and 10-1 in the last 11 meetings at Haas Pavilion.

Kansas State Wildcats at Oklahoma Sooners (-3.5, 130)

Kansas State looks for a season sweep of Oklahoma when the 21st-ranked Wildcats travel to Norman for a key Big 12 matchup. Kansas State and Oklahoma entered the weekend tied with Baylor for second place in the conference, with Kansas the last remaining unbeaten team at 7-0. The Wildcats forced 16 turnovers and hit 10 3-pointers to beat the Sooners 69-60 when the teams met in Manhattan on Jan. 19. Oklahoma senior forward Romero Osby and Kansas State senior guard Rodney McGruder are averaging 17 points apiece in conference play, and Osby continues to lead the Sooners in scoring and rebounding. McGruder had a game-high 20 points when the teams met two weeks ago.

Mississippi Rebels at Florida Gators (-14.5, 134)

It will be strength against strength when the SEC leaders meet at Florida on Saturday. No. 16 Mississippi is one of the country's top scoring teams, powered by junior guard Marshall Henderson. The league's best defense has led the No. 4 Gators to nine straight double-digit wins. The Gators haven't allowed a league opponent to score more than 52 points. Florida junior gaurd Scottie Wilbekin, who has already shut down some of the SEC's top guards, will likely get the tough task of guarding Henderson. The Rebels could be without two key backups - forward Aaron Jones (ACL) and guard Nick Williams (foot) - on Saturday.

Ohio State Buckeyes at Nebraska Cornhuskers (+12, 118)

No. 11 Ohio State has looked impressive in three straight victories, and star Deshaun Thomas is coming off one of his best games of the season. The Buckeyes will be looking to secure their fourth straight victory when they visit Nebraska on Saturday. The Cornhuskers suffered a 26-point loss at Ohio State in their Big Ten opener and have struggled mightily against the top tier of the conference. Thomas broke out of a one-game slump with 25 points in an impressive win over Wisconsin on Tuesday as the Buckeyes kept the pressure on Michigan, Indiana and Michigan State ahead of them in the Big Ten. The Buckeyes will need to be careful not to overlook Nebraska with dates against the top-ranked Wolverines and No. 3 Hoosiers coming up next week. The Cornhuskers are trying to stay above .500 overall but have yet to reach 70 points in conference play.

Nevada Wolf Pack at New Mexico Lobos (-14,127)

No. 22 New Mexico, which holds a one-game lead in the highly competitive Mountain West Conference, returns home to The Pit to host league newcomer Nevada in the first meeting between the two schools. The Lobos are 10-1 at home this season with the lone loss coming to South Dakota State, 70-65, on Dec. 22. Since then Steve Alford's defending Mountain West champs have won three in a row at The Pit, including impressive wins over league heavyweights UNLV (65-60) and Colorado State (66-61). Nevada, picked fifth in the Mountain West preseason poll, have dropped five of their last seven games, including a 66-54 loss at UNLV on Tuesday. The Wolf Pack are just 2-6 on the road but did score an impressive non-conference win at Washington, 76-73, on Dec. 8 and trailed by just seven points with four minutes to go at UNLV. Nevada is competing in the Mountain West for the first time this season after spending 12 years in the WAC where the Wolf Pack finished 13-1 last season while winning their sixth league title.

Michigan Wolverines at Indiana Hoosiers (-4.5, 138)

After weeks of hype, it’s finally here. Sure, the Super Bowl is nice, but college basketball's marquee matchup of Michigan and Indiana should be one of the games of the year. The 2nd-ranked Wolverines feature the nation’s top offense and a player of the year candidate in point guard Trey Burke, who averages 17 points and seven assists. No. 3 Indiana, which held the top ranking for the first six weeks of the season, might be one of the few teams capable of keeping pace with the Wolverines. Sophomore big man Cody Zeller was shaky early, but he leads the Hoosiers in scoring and rebounding and is coming off a strong performance against Purdue. Michigan has struggled to win in Bloomington, having lost 14 of the last 15 meetings at Indiana.

Arizona Wildcats at Washington State Cougars (+7.5, 125)

Arizona will try to stay in the Pac-12 race when the No. 8 Wildcats travel to Washington State on Saturday night. Arizona moved within a game of first-place Oregon with its narrow win Thursday night at Washington, a day after the Ducks were blown out at Stanford for their first conference loss. Washington State hasn’t put up much resistance lately, losing six of eight in conference play. Brock Motum could be a tough guard for Arizona. The 6-10 senior center is averaging a team-leading 18.5 points and 6.8 rebounds, and the Wildcats rely on a trio of freshman big men, Brandon Ashley, Grant Jerrett and Kaleb Tarczewski, who are still finding their way. The good news for the Wildcats is Motum isn’t shooting the nearly ball as well as earlier in the season. He shot 50 percent from the field or better in nine of the first 11 games, but has reached that mark once in the last 10.

Gonzaga Bulldogs at San Diego Toreros (+14, 132)

No. 7 Gonzaga looks to wrap up a perfect first half of the West Coast Conference campaign when it visits San Diego on Saturday. The Bulldogs have won three straight games including a blowout at Loyola-Marymount last time out. Gonzaga, which has won the last eight meetings against San Diego, is already making a strong case for a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament. The Zags are ninth in the nation in scoring averaging nearly 80 points a game. After an impressive five-game winning streak, San Diego enters Saturday's game having lost three straight. The Toreros are 8-3 at home on the season but saw their 6-game winning streak on their homecourt snapped last Saturday by Santa Clara (64-50). Gonzaga will pose a difficult challenge. The Bulldogs are the highest ranked team to play at San Diego but the Toreros have beaten them twice while they were ranked, the last time coming in 2008.

20* Jazz/Blazers NBA Saturday Night BAILOUT on UNDER 195

The Portland Trail Blazers and Utah Jazz just played in an absolute defensive battle last night. The Jazz came out on top at home by a final of 86-77 for 163 combined points. This is a home-and-home situation with Saturday's contest being played at Portland this time around.

I fully expect another low-scoring, defensive battle in the rematch tonight. The books have made a huge mistake by setting this number so high. These teams are obviously very familiar with one other after playing last night, and familiarity makes points hard to come by for both teams.

This has been a very low scoring series between these teams over the past couple of years. In fact, six of the last eight meetings have seen 190 or less combined points. They Jazz and Blazers have combined to average 187.3 points/game in those eight contests.

The UNDER is 4-0 in Jazz last 4 games following a S.U. win. The UNDER is 4-0 in Jazz last 4 vs. NBA Northwest opponents. The UNDER is 7-1 in Jazz last 8 vs. Western Conference. The UNDER is 4-1 in Jazz last 5 road games vs. a team with a winning home record. Bet the UNDER in this game Saturday.

15* Big Ten GAME OF THE DAY on Northwestern -1.5

The Northwestern Wildcats are showing awesome value as a small home favorite over the Purdue Boilermakers Saturday. I'll gladly take advantage by backing them at an excellent price today.

Northwestern will be motivated to bounce back from back-to-back road losses to Michigan and Nebraska. It was last seen at home beating Minnesota 55-48 as an 8-point underdog.

Purdue is just 2-6 SU & 2-5 ATS on the road this season. The home team has won four of the last five meetings in this series. The home team is 3-1-1 ATS in the last 5 meetings.

The Boilermakers are 1-5 ATS in their last 6 Saturday games. Curtis Painter is 9-19 ATS in road games after playing 2 consecutive home games as the coach of Purdue. Take Northwestern Saturday.

15* ACC GAME OF THE DAY on Boston College +1

The Boston College Eagles are going to be highly motivated for a victory Saturday when they welcome the Clemson Tigers to their house. The Eagles have lost five straight, including three by 5 points or less against a daunting schedule.

I like the Eagles' chances of getting back in the win column against a Clemson team that it has owned throughout the years at home. The Eagles have won five of their last six home meetings in this series. In fact, the home team is 12-1 SU in the last 13 meetings dating back to 2003.

Clemson has squeaked by with back-to-back home wins over lowly Virginia Tech and Georgia Tech by a combined 10 points. However, the Tigers have not played well on the road this season. They are just 2-4 in true road games this year.

Boston College is 7-0 ATS after playing a home game this season. The Eagles are 8-3 ATS in their last 11 games following a double-digit loss at home. Clemson is 1-4 ATS in its last 5 Saturday games. Roll with Boston College Saturday.

15* SEC GAME OF THE DAY on South Carolina -3.5

The South Carolina Gamecocks should be a much heavier home favorite Saturday over the Georgia Bulldogs. I'll gladly take advantage by backing the Gamecocks as I fully expect them to run away with this one.

South Carolina comes in highly motivated for a win after losing three of its last four games, including an embarrassing 36-75 loss at Florida on Wednesday. Its lone win during this stretch came by a final of 75-54 at home over Arkansas, and I expect a similar blowout today.

While the Gamecocks are a solid 8-4 at home this season, the Bulldogs are a mere 1-6 on the road. Georgia is only scoring 54.4 points/game away from home this season, getting outscored by 11.3 points/game in the process.

The home team has won eight of the last 10 meetings in this series. The Bulldogs are 8-19 ATS in their last 27 games following a S.U. win. Georgia is 1-4 ATS in its last 5 road games. The Gamecocks are 7-1 ATS in their last 8 games following a ATS loss. Bet South Carolina Saturday.

25* Missouri Valley GAME OF THE YEAR on Missouri State +2

I've been riding Missouri State with a ton of success during conference season. I'm going to continue to do so Saturday and label the Bears as my MVC GAME OF THE YEAR. This is my strongest release in this conference all season.

Missouri State has been a covering machine in conference play. It is a sensational 9-1 ATS in MVC action this season with its only ATS loss coming against Creighton. A big reason this team remains undervalued is due to its 6-16 overall record. There's no question this team is far better than its record would indicate.

The Bears will be out for revenge Saturday against an Evansville team they lost to 59-62 (OT) on the road in their first meeting of the season on January 2nd. They were a 13-point dog in that game and nearly won outright. Now, as a home dog this time around, I fully expect them to win outright.

Missouri State is 12-3 SU in its last 15 home meetings with Evansville. The home team is 12-2 SU In the last 14 meetings (not including neutral court). The Purple Aces are just 2-7 SU on the road this season.

The Bears are 6-0 ATS in their last 6 games following a S.U. loss. Missouri State is 4-0 ATS in its last 4 games following a ATS win. The Bears are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games vs. a team with a winning S.U. record. Missouri State is 5-0 ATS in its last 5 games overall. These four trends combine for a perfect 19-0 system backing the Bears. Bet Missouri State Saturday.

15* Big 12 GAME OF THE DAY on Oklahoma -3

The Oklahoma Sooners are one of the most underrated teams in the entire country. Oklahoma is off to a 14-5 start this season while going an impressive 10-5 ATS. Lon Kruger returned all five starters from last year's team and it's really starting to pay dividends.

Oklahoma is off to a 6-2 start in Big 12 play to really show what it is capable of. That includes a 74-71 road win at Baylor on Wednesday. Its only Big 12 losses have come on the road at Kansas and at Kansas State.

That road loss against the Wildcats in their first meeting this season puts the Sooners in revenge mode and wanting this game more. I like their chances of getting it considering they are 7-1 SU & 4-1 ATS at home this season, outscoring opponents by 13.8 points/game.

Oklahoma is 18-6 ATS when playing against a good team (Win Pct. 60% to 80%) over the last 3 seasons. Kansas State is 0-6 ATS in road games after a win by 15 points or more over the last 2 seasons. The Wildcats are 4-15 ATS in road games on Saturday games over the last 3 seasons. The Sooners are 7-1 ATS in their last 8 home games. The Wildcats are 1-6-1 ATS in their last 8 road games. Take Oklahoma Saturday.

15* CBB Saturday No-Doubt Rout on Iowa State -3

The Iowa State Cyclones are showing awesome value as only a 3-point home favorite over the Baylor Bears Saturday. It needs this win for its tournament resume, and I believe it goes out and gets it in blowout fashion.

Iowa State's only losses have come on the road this season, including heartbreaking road defeats in Big 12 play to Oklahoma State (76-78), Texas Tech (51-56) and Kansas (89-97, OT).

The good news is that the Cyclones return home Saturday where they are a perfect 11-0 on the season, outscoring opponents by a whopping 20.8 points/game. In fact, dating back to last season they are riding an 18-game home winning streak, and they are 27-2 inside Hilton Coliseum over the last two seasons.

While ISU's home record this season is a great reason to back them, it's not the most important. My biggest reason for backing the Cyclones Saturday is the fact that they are a perfect 10-0 at home against Baylor all-time. That's right, they have never lost in Ames to the Bears folks. Roll with Iowa State Saturday.

509 NOH 3.0(-110) Bookmaker.com vs 510 MIN double-dime bet

Analysis: The wrong team is favored. The Hornets are superior to Minnesota, which has been sunk by multiple injuries, bad defense and low morale. The Timberwolves are 4-13-1 ATS in their last 18 games.

Minnesota has lost six in a row. This is a stop-the-pain game for the Timberwolves, but they don't have depth nor talent to beat New Orleans. The Timberwolves fell behind the Lakers by 29 points last night. They launched a great rally to cut the lead to four, but couldn't pull the game out losing, 111-100. The Timberwolves exerted a lot of energy in that loss.

The Hornets are 7-2 ATS in their last nine road contests. They've beaten the 76ers, Celtics and Grizzlies straight-up on the road during the past two weeks. The Hornets are an entirely different team when Eric Gordon is on the floor so their overall record is skewed. New Orleans has a winning record with Gordon. Withou Åt him, they are 7-25.

New Orleans also played last night losing at Denver. The Hornets, though, aren't in action again until Wednesday so they shouldn't be holding anything back in this very winnable game.

Game: Portland at St. Mary's (7:30 PM Eastern)
Pick: Portland +20 (-110)
The St. Mary's Gaels used to be the doormat in the West Coast Conference, but over the last few years that has changed dramatically as they now have become the biggest challenger of the strong hold Gonzaga has had on the conference. The Gaels are 18-4 on the season and a perfect 12-0 at home, and have won six straight games. They have not brought their "A" game to these mismatches however, as they are just 1-4 ATS as a chalk of -17 or more on the season. Portland has lost and failed to cover each of their last five, but they should be alive tonight as St. Mary's held them to a season low 38 points at home in their previous meeting. Conference teams favored by -20 or more have failed to an 84-134 ATS mark. Take the points.

January: +$2600. A very strong January for us and we look to keep that going in February. Thanks for your patience and let's look forward to duplicating another successful month. I have always said I have the best clients anywhere as they have been on board for many years over the past 13 years I have done this. We are on pace to have a positive result at the end of the season. Let's have a good day today:

6-Unit Play. #575 Take Alabama -2.5 over Vanderbilt (Saturday @ 4pm est)

3-Unit Play. #590 Take North Carolina State +1 over Miami (Saturday @ 4pm est)

3-Unit Play. #615 Take Drexel +3.5 over Northeastern (Saturday @ 6pm est)

3-Unit Play. #623 Take Fordham +24.5 over VCU (Saturday @ 7pm est)

3-Unit Play. #653 Take Indiana State -1 over Drake (Saturday @ 7:35pm est)

Anthony Grant is one of my favorite coaches and Alabama faces Vanderbilt on the road. Vandy has beaten this team the last 3 years including last year when they beat them by 10 points on the road with a veteran team. Alabama is 5-2 in conference play and is a 13-7 overall squad that has some impressive wins to its resume. This is a team that beat Kentucky at home by 4 points, beat Tennessee, Arkansas and lost to Cincinnati by just 3 points on the road. Grants' teams have always played solid on the defensive side of the ball and they are a top 50 defense this year as well. Vandy is 2-5 in conference play and the fact they are one of the worst free throw shooting teams in the nation outside the top 300 doesn't help their cause nor does the fact this team is 1-10 SU when they face top 100 teams. I like Alabama to do well here as Vanderbilt is outside the top 225 when it comes to offense and Alabama's strong defense should give them trouble today. After years of disappointment (3 years to be exact), I like 'Bama to get some revenge this afternoon. Miami is an excellent team at 16-3 this year. They are a perfect 7-0 in conference play but they go on the road to face a NC State who will be ready for them. I like the fact NC State is an underdog here which should bode well for their attitude and excitement getting ready for this game. NC State is the same team that beat Duke and Stanford at home and lost to Michigan by just 7 points on the road. I like the fact that NC State comes off a loss to Virginia on the road getting ready for this game. NC State is a top 15 offensive efficiency team and this is one of those teams that gets up for the big games and they have let downs against mid tier teams such as Virginia. Look for NC State to be fired up this afternoon and to have a strong effort. Drexel lost the first time in 7 games against Northeastern at home in overtime 63-58. This is a big revenge spot for Drexel as they head on the road now. This team comes off a huge win against George Mason to help move themselves to 5-4 in conference play and as good as Northeastern is as they are 8-1 in conference play, I like Drexel to do well here today on the road with revenge in mind. Note that Northeastern comes off a loss to Georgia State and though this team is stout overall in conference play they are outside the top 250 in defense and I suspect Drexel will make the necessary adjustments and do well today based on this. Bruiser Flint's ballclub was 5-11 at one point this season and now sit at 9-12 as they are playing better and I like them to step up here on the road and pick up this win as they are playing much better now than they were when they faced Northeastern at home earlier this year. When you are as good as VCU, how do you get to play a team like Fordham? Fordham is 6-15 this year overall and they are catching a significant number of points today on the road against VCU. Fordham has learned to slow the pace of the game down and as the total drops in this game as it is set at 148 and dropped to 147, that is a good sign for this underdog as getting 24.5 points out of 147 is a decent proposition for us. Fordham beat Rhode Island recently 66-63 at home and lost to a good St. Joseph's team 66-62 at home. Sure, this team has gotten blown out on the road before to better teams, but if Fordham can keep a half-court game in their set, I can see them losing by sub 20 today. VCU also has a date with Charlotte and UMass on the horizon that they are likely much more interested in playing than this game and I like Fordham to lose this game by 15-20 points today. Indiana State has covered this game 7 of the last 8 years. It seems that State always gets up to play Drexel or is undervalued in these games. State is actually favored this year and on the road at that. This is a team that just beat Wichita State by 13 on the road, beat top 25 Miami and Ole Miss as well earlier this year. Drake is 4-6 in conference play after starting the year 0-4 in conference play and though they are playing better including beating Creighton at home, its hard to ignore their top 200 defense, poor offensive rebounding which is outside the top 300 and the fact they rely so much on 3 point shooting. State is a top 75 offensive efficiency team, top 75 in defense and top 20 in blocked shots. I'll take the team will dominate the paint today and relies on less on the 3 point shooting than Drake today. State will focus on taking Drexel's perimeter game away from them and force them inside which will be to State's benefit today likely.

Indian Cowboy's Picks For NBA Basketball

3-Unit Play. #507. Take Charlotte +12.5 over Houston (Saturday @ 8:05pm est).

Charlotte is the type of team that steps up when you least expect them to and Houston is the type of team that lays an egg when you least expect them too. Houston plays up to better competition as they hold on to dear life to their current playoff spot and plays down to teams who they should play well against. Houston beat this team by 6 points earlier this year on the road and as the Bobcats get crushed by the Spurs in their last game losing by 24, I like them to show some heart today against a Houston team who they played well against at home. Houston did lose by 18 points to Denver in their last game but I suspect they might still be hung over from that loss as they have a tendency to go on a rut such as their 6 game ATS losing streak around last week when they ended up losing 5 of their last 6. Houston also has Golden State on their docket next game and then Miami on the road after that as well as they are probably looking ahead at bigger fish to fry than the lowly Bobcats who they have already defeated this year.

Indian Cowboy's Picks For NHL Hockey

5-Unit Play. #11 New York Rangers +110 vs. Tampa Bay (Saturday @ 7:05pm est)
The Rangers made the biggest trade-related splash of the offseason, acquiring Rick Nash from Columbus and now look out - the Rangers instantly became one of the most dangerous teams in the East. The "Blue Shirts" hope he is the final piece to the Cup Puzzle. Since HC John Tortorella took over as coach in 2009, his aggressive style relying on work ethic and defensemen joining the rush promotes offense. It's only a matter of time before the "Blue Shirts" begin to click. The Rangers are (13-6) in their last (19) Saturday games and we expect them to put a stop to the Bolts (6) game home winning streak at the Tampa Bay Times Forum, Tampa, Florida on Saturday Night. Bolts GM Steve Yzerman wasted little time trying to fix his team's goaltending issues, acquiring Anders Lindback from Nashville on June 15 and signing him to a two-year contract. He is scheduled to be between the pipes tonight against New York. Tampa Bay is perfect at home so far but face a big challenge here with New York Rangers goalie Henrick Lundqvist, He is the team's MVP and solving his mastery in between the pipes is never easy.

COLLEGE BASKETBALL PLAY

3 Unit Play. Take #579 Wichita St -1 ½ over Northern Iowa (4:00 p.m., Saturday, February 2 ESPN2)
The Wichita St Shockers have had great success over Northern Iowa going a perfect 4-0 ATS and today I see the Shockers winning this game on the road. I believe that Wichita St I probably happy to be on the road since their home winning streak was stopped early this week so now the Shockers can get back to winning basketball games and that starts today on the road.
4 Unit Play. Take #618 Long Beach St -5 over Cal Poly Slo (7:00 p.m., Saturday, February 2 ESPN2)
The Long Beach St 49ers have won 7-straight games and tonight at home they look to keep this streak rolling to #8. The 49ers last loss was against Cal Poly on the road so tonight I see revenge hitting at home. Should be a great game and I see Long Beach St winning by 8-points or more. The favorite in this series is 10-3 ATS and the Cal Poly SLo Mustangs are 4-14-1 ATS in their last 19 road games.
2 Unit Play. Take #675 Over 143 Michigan at Indiana (9:00 p.m., Saturday, February 2 ESPN2)
Offense should be the key for both teams tonight as I see this game having a high tempo game. Point guard play will be key for both teams and if both point guards push the ball this game will fly over. I look for Indiana to control the tempo in the 1st half then Michigan taking control in the 2nd half and whoever wins this game it's won on the free-throw line. Last 5 meetings in Indiana all 5 of them have gone over the total and Michigan is 6-2 O/U in their last 8 road games.

5 Unit Play. Take 2507 Boston -130 over Toronto (7:05 p.m., Saturday February 2)
The Boston Bruins will look to continue their dominance over the Toronto Maple Leafs when the two teams meet tonight at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto. The Bruins have won six straight over the Leafs including 7-0 and 8-0 wins last year en route to outscoring them by a 36-10 margin on the season. Tukka Rask will get the call between the pipes tonight for the Bruins. He has been outstanding for Boston this season, posting a 4-1-1 record with a 2.44 GAA and .909 save %. He has also been excellent against Toronto, winning six of seven career starts with a GAA of 1.56. Rask will be opposed by James Reimer, who is scheduled to get the start tonight for the Leafs. Reimer has struggled a bit this season for Toronto despite his 3-1-0 record. He has a GAA of 2.80 and has been yanked twice already on the young season. The Bruins, who lead the Northeast Division have been very good in the spot they are in here tonight against the Leafs. They are 8-2 in their last 10 road games and have won 20 of their last 26 games against teams from the Northeast Division. They have also been good on Saturday, winning 5 of their last 7. Toronto, on the other hand, has really struggled in the situation they are in here tonight with the Bruins. They are just 3-13 at home in their last 16 games dating back to last season and have won only 1 of their last 7 games following a win. They have also had their issues with teams from the Eastern Conference, winning just 10 of their last 31. Pair those numbers with the fact that the Bruins have won 4 of the last 5 meeting in Toronto between these two and we'll lay the price with the Bruins on the road to get the win and give us a winner in our 5 Unit Game of the Week.

5 Unit Play. Take #517 Over 202 Phoenix at Golden St (10:35 p.m., Saturday, February 2)
(TOTAL Game of the Week) Yes I know Stephen Curry is still questionable tonight for the Warriors but Golden St still has been a scoring machine. Their last 4 games they have hit the century mark with ease and in their last 8 games the Warriors are averaging 104.6ppg. Really like this play over not because Golden St can score with anybody but the Suns defense has been questionable all season long. Look for both of these trends to happen tonight as the Warriors have no problem at home scoring and this game flies over. Golden St is 5-0 O/U against Pacific division teams and the last 11 meetings in Golden St 8 of them went over the total.

Larry Ness' 10* Conference G.O.M.-NBA (11-4 L2 Saturdays)
My 10* Western Conference Game of the Month is on the Por Blazers at 10:05 ET.

I played the Jazz last night (over the Blazers) as part of my winning Superstar Triple Play and will come right back tonight on the Blazers, over the Jazz. The Jazz are CLEARLY much better at home (17-5) than on the road (9-16) and the same can be said of the Blazers, who fell to 7-15 on the road with last night’s loss but are 16-8 here in the Rose Garden. The Jazz have used a home-heavy part of their schedule to move to 26-21 overall, giving them the No. 7 seed (currently) in the West. The 25-23 Rockets are just 1 1/2 games behind them with the Blazers (23-23) currently sitting in the 9th-spot, one game out of postseason play. Now history says the Jazz have won 10 of the past 13 meetings with the Blazers, including a 5-1 record at the Rose Garden, but I’m still taking the home team in this quick turnaround, despite them losing guard Matthews to a bad ankle sprain last night. I WON’T ignore the fact that the Jazz are just 3-11 on the road against Western Conference teams this season, also going 3-11 ATS (that’s a 79% “go-against!”). Play the Blazers.

4-STAR New Orleans +3.5 over MINNESOTA - With the Super Bowl coming up tomorrow, this is a game between two "bad" teams Vegas is overlooking. While the Hornets are playing their fourth game in five nights, Minnesota is unrested as well and has no depth. They've been the worst teams in the league the past three weeks and shouldn't be favored over anyone.
This is the final game of five-game road trip for New Orleans, having lost the past three. The Timberwolves are 0-7 ATS (-16.5 ppg) since November 23, 2004 when their opponent is playing in at least their fourth straight road game and has no rest.
They fell last night in Denver, 113-98. The Nuggets shot 52.4% from the field in that game. The Hornets are 9-0 ATS (15.9 ppg) since March 04, 2011 as a dog after a double digit road loss in which they allowed at least 50% from the field.
While New Orleans had 19 assists, they also had 21 turnovers. The Hornets are 8-0 ATS (16.8 ppg) since December 28, 2011 with at most one day of rest after a game on the road in which they had more turnovers than assists.
Minnesota lost last night, 111-100 to the Lakers. They went 10-of-22 from threes in the game. The Timberwolves are 0-8 ATS (-5.3 ppg) since December 13, 2005 with no rest after a loss in which they scored more than 30% of their points from the three-point line.
Luke Ridnour went 2-of-7 in the game with four points. The Timberwolves are 0-6 ATS (-6.3 ppg) since February 10, 2012 at home after a loss in which Luke Ridnour scored fewer than 10 points.
Minnesota lost to New Orleans 104-92 in January. The Hornets controlled the boards, 44-31 in that game. The Timberwolves are 0-6 ATS (-5.0 ppg) since January 15, 2011 when seeking revenge for a road loss in which they were out-rebounded by double-digits.
SPORTSBOOK BREAKERS PREDICTION: New Orleans 99, MINNESOTA 92
4-STAR PORTLAND -4 over Utah - These teams have two of the biggest home court advantages in the league and last night it was Utah's turn to get their home win. The line has rightfully shifted for tonight's game and we still like Portland at home here.
Utah has generally struggled coming off wins over Portland. The Jazz are 0-8 ATS (-7.9 ppg) since November 12, 1999 on the road after a home win against the Trailblazers.
Of course they aren't usually playing Portland against the next game. The next day rematch has favored the loser. Teams which are facing the same team they lost to yesterday are 66-48-1 ATS.
Last night's game was a low scorer with Utah winning 86-77. Portland scored 18 points less than expected in the game. The Trailblazers are 8-0 ATS (10.2 ppg) since March 01, 2007 at home after a road loss in which their DPS was minus 15 points or less.
Nic Batum has struggled in the game. He went just 2-of-7 for five points in 38 minutes of action. The Trailblazers are 10-0 ATS (10.7 ppg) since February 01, 2011 at home after losing the previous matchup in which Nicolas Batum shot worse than 33% from the field. 4-STAR Chicago +7 over ATLANTA - Both teams are banged up but people are focusing more on Chicago here. This is the game where their depth can shine. This is going to be such a low scoring game that this is further expands the value with this line.

Jazz/Blazers UNDER 193.5 LOCKED (x1)

I am going to be playing the UNDER in the Jazz/Blazers game in Portland. THese two teams just played last night with the game ending 86-77 Jazz. That's 163 points combined from the two teams. Both teams play again tonight on zero days rest and I am expecting another very low scoring game. Wesley Matthews is OUT for the Blazers tonight. Nicolas Batum has been complaining about his wrist affecting his shot and he has been off. Gordon Hayward is the 3rd leading scorer for the Jazz off the bench and he is OUT. Mo Williams is the 4th leading scorer for Utah and he is also OUT.

In yesterdays game, the highest scoring quarter was 47. You have to score 48.5 points a quarter to go OVER a total of 193.5. So, basically not 1 quarter of yesterdays game went OVER what it needed to actually hit the OVER. Now Wesley Matthews is OUT tonight and both teams have zero days rest. I can't see how there is a drastic change in the scoring just 24 hours later.

The biggest scoring issue yesterday was in the 2nd quarter and 4th quarter. This is because Portland has the worst bench in the NBA and Utah's bench is now terrible without Hayward. Utah's bench overall for the season is top 10 in scoring but in the last 3 games without Heyward the bench is now averaging just 30ppg. Portland's bench only gets 13ppg. In yesterdays game, they scored 42points total in the 2nd quarter and finished the game off with just 29 points in the 4th quarter. The teams really grew tired late in this game and it showed in their offense. I expect the game to happen tonight late in the game. I think they will probably score in the 180-185 range tonight.
