Study group: Wednesday's Top 25 NCB betting notes

Check out our quick-hitting betting notes on all of Wednesday’s ranked college basketball games:

(18) Minnesota at (8) Michigan State (-2.5)

Minnesota started Michigan State’s Big Ten schedule with a loss on New Year’s Eve, but the Spartans have not let that defeat derail their hopes of winning the nation’s toughest conference. Minnesota shot 56.6 percent in beating Michigan State 76-63 in Minneapolis on Dec. 31, posting its first regular-season triumph over the Spartans since 2006. Michigan State has won 13 of the past 16 matchups and has won seven of eight overall since that defeat, but Minnesota is 11-1 ATS in its last 12 road games.

Baylor at (24) Oklahoma State (5.5)

The Bears beat the Cowboys 64-54 when the teams last met Jan. 21 in Waco and they have won eight of the last 12 meetings. Oklahoma State has won three consecutive games since losing to Baylor and is coming off an 85-80 victory at then-No. 1 (now No. 5) Kansas on Saturday. Baylor has a two-game losing streak and is coming off a 79-71 setback at Iowa State on Saturday. The Bears are second in the Big 12 in scoring offense (75.8) and rebounding (39.2), and seventh in scoring defense (63.8). The Cowboys, who lead the Big 12 in free-throw percentage (.751), are fourth in both scoring offense (71.8) and scoring defense (60.2). The Bears are 0-5 ATS in the last five meetings in Oklahoma State.

(17) Cincinnati at Providence (+3.5)

Two of the top scorers in the Big East will go head-to-head, when Sean Kilpatrick and Cincinnati visit Bryce Cotton and Providence. Kilpatrick is not quite at Cotton’s level, but he has had more support from his teammates as the Bearcats have taken two straight and five of their last six. The Friars snapped a three-game slide with a win at Villanova on Saturday and have fallen just short in several other Big East contests. The Friars are 1-4 at home against conference teams and will face three ranked opponents in the next four games as they try to keep from falling below .500. The Bearcats are 0-4 ATS in their last four games following an ATS win.

St. Bonaventure at (14) Butler (-11.5)

Butler has been a factor in its inaugural season in the Atlantic 10 Conference and will move into a first-place tie with a victory over visiting St. Bonaventure. The Bonnies have won three of their last four games, including impressive victories at Temple and Saint Joseph's. St. Bonaventure figures to have a tougher time at historic Hinkle Fieldhouse, though, where the Bulldogs are 11-0 this season. The Bonnies will also have to deal with senior guard Rotnei Clarke, who has led Butler in scoring in three consecutive games since missing three contests because of a neck injury. St. Bonaventure is 9-57 all-time against ranked teams and 0-28 on the road. The Bulldogs are 8-1 ATS in their last nine games following an ATS loss.

(13) Creighton at Indiana State (+5.5)

Creighton has won three straight games by at least 14 points against opponents with losing conference records since dropping two in a row on the road. The Sycamores, one of the four Missouri Valley teams with a winning conference record, own three victories against opponents ranked in this week’s coaches’ poll despite last month’s loss at Creighton. Indiana State is coming off a 74-71 overtime loss at Drake – the same team that handed Creighton its last loss – but is 8-1 at home. While the Bluejays have won four straight overall in this series, they are 1-2 over their last three in Terre Haute, Ind. – games that have been decided by a total of nine points. The Sycamores are 5-1 ATS in their last six home games.

(12) Louisville at Rutgers (+10.5)

Three weeks ago, Louisville dominated its first four conference games and was the nation's top-ranked team. A three-game losing streak sent them tumbling out of the top 10 but on Sunday, the Cardinals seemed to regain their dominance in a 71-50 victory over Marquette and they will be aiming for their third straight win when they visit Rutgers. After winning three of its first five conference games, Rutgers has dropped four straight and has been outscored by a 122-80 margin after halftime in its last three games, including 40-24 in last Wednesday's 62-54 loss at Cincinnati. The Cardinals 1-4 ATS in their last five games overall.

(5) Kansas at TCU (+19.5)

Kansas finds itself in rebound mode for the first time since mid-November after having its NCAA-best 18-game winning streak snapped at home by Oklahoma State, 85-80, on Saturday. The Jayhawks are 4-0 on the road in Big 12 play but only one - a 60-46 win at Texas Tech - has been by double digits. The other three -- at Texas (64-59), at Kansas State (59-55) and at West Virginia (61-56) -- have been by five points or less. TCU is 0-5 ATS in its last five games overall.

Mississippi State at (23) Mississippi (-20)

Mississippi looks to get back on track and snap a two-game losing streak when it hosts in-state rival Mississippi State. The Rebels had won nine straight before dropping consecutive games to Kentucky and Florida over the last week, dropping Ole Miss into a second-place tie in the SEC. The Bulldogs have dropped six straight after starting 2-0 in league play, showing the team's youth and inexperience. Mississippi is scoring 73 points a game in SEC games, which is bad news for Mississippi State, which is allowing 74.8 points a game during its current losing skid. The Bulldogs are 6-1 ATS in the last seven meetings.

Stanford at (7) Arizona (-10)

Arizona looks to extend its three-game winning streak against surging Stanford. Arizona is coming off a sweep of the Washington schools last week, and its defense has limited the opposition to 25.4 percent from 3-point range over the last four games. Arizona has won 12 of the last 16 games against Stanford, and the Wildcats are 28-8 in Tucson. The Cardinal have won five of their last seven after starting league play 0-2. Stanford still trails the Pac-12 in field goal shooting at 41.1 percent, but the Cardinal have shot 57.4 percent from beyond the arc in their last three games. Arizona is 1-4 ATS in its last five road games.

Air Force at (16) New Mexico (-11.5)

New Mexico will try to hold onto sole possession of first-place in the Mountain West Conference when it hosts Air Force. The Falcons have won five straight following their 70-67 upset Saturday against then-No. 20 San Diego State. Don’t anticipate the Lobos will take Air Force lightly. New Mexico lost by 21 points to San Diego State on Jan. 26 - the same team the Falcons toppled last weekend. Air Force is 4-0 ATS in its last four games overall.

Boise State at (25) San Diego State (-9)

San Diego State was supposed to be head of the class in the Mountain West Conference. Instead, the Aztecs need a victory over Boise State to avoid being at .500 at the midway point of the conference slate. The Broncos have upset two ranked teams on the road this season, beating Creighton in November and winning at Wyoming last month. Boise State has already matched last season’s conference victory total, but the Broncos have lost their last three Mountain West road games by an average of 15.7 points. San Diego State has won 58 of its last 63 home games and has a 9-1 mark this season. The Aztecs allow only 59.3 points per game.

AT&T Pebble Beach golf preview and picks
By MATT FARGO

The PGA Tour goes back to California this week for the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am. Pebble Beach Golf Links is one of three host courses for the event along with Spyglass Hill and Monterey Peninsula Country Club Shore Course which replaces Poppy Hills for a fourth straight year as one of the three courses that had been part of this rotation. A traditional playing cut of the top 60 and ties will be made after 54 holes on Saturday, giving players one extra day to make a move.

Pebble Beach is one of the players’ favorite stops on Tour and for good reason. Hitting greens is essential to provide birdie opportunities and scoring on the par-5s is also crucial. Experience has played a big role in this event and a good track record will take precedence over those who have not played much, or played well here in the past. Last year was just the second time in seven years at Pebble Beach that the average score was under par.

The defending champion is Phil Mickelson (+550) who came from six shots back entering the final day and shot 64 to win by two shots over Charlie Wi. Mickelson is coming off a wire-to-wire win in Scottsdale last week. He played his best golf of the young season by far and narrowly missed a Thursday 59. He has won here four times.

The short price on Dustin Johnson (+800) is certainly justified. He has won here twice and finished inside the top seven two other times, and this is only his sixth start here. Taking last week off should have him recharged.

This is the third straight week we will use Hunter Mahan (+1,800). After a T15 at the Farmers, he finished T16 at TPC Scottsdale and he certainly looks ready to break through. He has performed very well here over the last couple years as his T15 last year came after a solo second in 2011, where he finished two back of D.A. Points. It is interesting to note his two best rounds that year came at Pebble.

We used Jimmy Walker (+3,000) two weeks ago at Torrey Pines and if not for a Tiger Woods runaway, he was right in the thick of it. He finished T4 and after making the cut at the Phoenix Open last week, he has made the weekend in all four starts as well as 13 straight going back to last season. He finished T9 at Pebble Beach in 2011 thanks to a Sunday 75 and followed it up last year with another T9 finish.

Tim Clark (+3,500) opened the season with a solo second at the Sony Open in Hawaii but followed that up with a missed cut at the Humana Challenge. He came back last week and was average with a T49 but he returns to the AT&T for the first time since 2010 when he finished T10 and has never been outside the top 25 when making the weekend. Injuries forced him to miss the last two years but he is healthy this time around.

For a long shot, we will take a look at Matt Every (+7,500). After missing the cut in his first two starts this year, he made the weekend at the Farmers and then followed that up with a T9 last week, posting a 65 and 66 along the way. He missed the cut here last year but that came after a missed cut in his previous start, so the momentum is on his side here. Prior to that, he finished T31 in 2011 and T27 in 2010.

Bruins at Canadiens: What bettors need to know

Boston Bruins at Montreal Canadiens (+101, 5)

After maintaining their mastery of one Original Six foe, the Boston Bruins look to continue that trend against another when they visit the Montreal Canadiens on Wednesday. Tuukka Rask turned aside all 21 shots he faced to make Chris Bourque's goal in the first period stand up as Boston skated to a 1-0 triumph over Toronto on Saturday. The victory was the Bruins' seventh straight and 24th in 34 outings (24-5-5) versus the Maple Leafs.

Boston will by vying for its fifth consecutive win over Montreal on Wednesday - but it won't be easy. Carey Price continued his solid start by making 32 saves as the Canadiens posted their second straight triumph with a 2-1 victory over Ottawa on Sunday. The win was Montreal's fifth straight at the Bell Centre since a 2-1 season-opening loss to Toronto.

TV: 7:30 p.m. ET, NBCSN, RDS, TSN

CONSENSUS: 55 percent of Covers Consensus plays are on the Bruins while 54 percent are on the over.

ABOUT THE BRUINS (6-1-1, 4-4-0 over/under): Rask has dropped his last five starts and seven of eight decisions overall (1-6-1) versus the Canadiens. The netminder could use a little help from captain Zdeno Chara, but he's had his own troubles north of the border. The hulking defenseman actually was cheered by the Bell Centre faithful in his last visit after he was struck on the chin by Tomas Plekanec and remained on the ice. Chara had just three assists in the season series in 2011-12.

ABOUT THE CANADIENS (6-2-0, 4-4 over/under): Solid goaltending and stingy defense have aided in the fast start of Montreal, which has yielded just 17 goals in eight contests. The immediate production of third overall pick Alex Galchenyuk (seven points) and fellow rookie Brendan Gallagher (five) also has been a boost. Max Pacioretty, who had an assist on Sunday in his return from an appendectomy, has set up five goals in his last three contests.

TRENDS:

* Bruins are 4-0 in the last four meetings.
* Over is 5-2-3 in the last 10 meetings in Montreal.
* Bruins are 11-23 in the last 34 meetings in Montreal.

OVERTIME:

1. Boston C Brad Marchand returned to practice on Tuesday. The pesky Nova Scotia native exited Saturday's game in the second period after careening into the end boards.

2. Montreal D Andrei Markov has scored all four of his goals on the power play - with three serving as game-winners.

3. Boston recalled C Ryan Spooner from Providence of the American Hockey League on Monday. Spooner wore a maroon jersey and participated on the second line during Tuesday's practice.

ANDRE GOMES

NBA - 705 New York Knicks @ 706 Washington Wizards
Projected Line: 196 points
The Knicks are back! Raymond Felton returned on the Knicks's game at Philadelphia and their offense was pathetic in that game by scoring just 80 points. However, since that game, the Knicks have torched their opponents with some incredible offensive numbers: 126.2, 139.3, 111.8, 133.4 and 118.5 offensive ratings on their last 5 games! In these games, the Knicks attempted an average of 34.6 treys per game, something that might look insane, but they converted 43.9% of them! With Felton back, the Knicks's ball movement improved dramatically, especially in the connection with their frontcourt.

If at the start of the season, Tyson Chandler was having a lot easy plays to catch and dunk with Felton, now it's Amare Stoudemire who has been a beast lately with 8-14 FG, 10-10 FG, 5-10 FG, 7-7 FG, 6-9 FG and 8-13 FG on the team's last six games, for a combined of 44-63 (70%) FG! Defensively, the Knicks looked good, but they have also been facing some favorable matchups, as Orlando, Milwaukee, Sacramento and Detroit aren't exactly good offensive teams, so their recent defensive numbers are a bit overrated in my opinion.

The Wizards had the "prize" of facing the Clippers without their best two players in Chris Paul and Blake Griffin. They took advantage of that and defeated the LA team by 98-90. The most important part of this win was Washington's offense that was coming from three starting games where they had an offensive rating lower than 100 (points per 100 possessions). This time, the Wizards had a 106.5 offensive rating! They were really sharp early on the game and started the game with 8-9 FG! The Wizards's ball movement was great and Garrett Temple was the surprising offensive contributor in the team's early run. Washington would end the game with 27 assists and just 13 turnovers!

It was a balanced effort from them, as they had five players in double digits points and eight players had at least one assists! Defensively, the Wizards forced 20 turnovers to the Clippers and they also limited well the Clippers's inside game, as the LA team scored just 28 points in the paint, on a game where the Clippers's frontcourt offense had a unimpressive unit of DeAndre Jordan, Lamar Odom and Ronny Turiaf! Therefore, we can'y really take a lot of conclusions on Washington's defense from this game. However, as long as Washington manages to be a decent offensive team, they can be competitive, as they have a very underrated defense.

Not only the Knicks are shooting great behind the line – L5 games they are shooting 43.9% 3pts while attempting almost 35 treys per game but they are scoring well inside as well – I have them shooting almost 70% FG at the rim with both Chandler and Stoudemire getting easy dunks and/or layups.

The Wizards defense has been pretty decent all season long and even great lately but I think that it will be tough for them to shutdown this Knicks’ offensive power. In the L6 games the Wizards def. rates = 97.10 which is great but let’s not forget that they faced the shorthanded Bulls; the Kings; the 76ers; the Grizzlies; the Spurs who scored 51 pts in the first half against them but faded away in second half due to Duncan’s injury and a Clippers team who were playing without Chris Paul and Blake Griffin. Their defense was great indeed but they had some pretty good favorable matchups during this recent span.

The issue in this contest is to find out if the Wizards will be able to score at a decent rate or not.

They are coming from a nice offensive balanced game against the Clippers in the last game. The key for such solid offensive game was obviously related with their good transition game – 19 fast break points w/ 9-15 FG in transition! The good news for them is that the Knicks aren’t a good defensive transition team, they are ranked just #22 allowing 1.16 PPP & L10 games = 1.19 PPP! Even the big, slow footed Pistons’ team was able to score 22 fast break points against the Knicks in the last game so I expect the Wizards to be focused in exploring this glaring weakness of the Knicks defense and push up the pace of the game every time they can. John Wall has to own the matchup vs. Felton / Kidd / Prigioni as he is too fast for the Knicks’ PG’s.

The last time these two teams faced each other, the Wizards didn’t have John Wall and they ended up scoring just 87 points w/ just 2 fast break points! I can guarantee you that this will not happen tonight!

I expect this contest to have a good tempo due to WAS’s style of play and game plan while the Knicks offense are simply red hot.

Minnesota vs Michigan State
Michigan State
-2½-110 (http://partners.commission.bz/processing/clickthrgh.asp?btag=a_420b_652) at BetOnline (http://www.betonline.ag/)

25* Big Ten GAME OF THE YEAR on Michigan State -2.5

The Michigan State Spartans (18-4) seem to get better as the season progresses year after year under head coach Tom Izzo. That has certainly been the case again this season as they are clearly playing their best basketball of late. They have won seven of their last eight games overall with their only loss coming at current No. 1 Indiana by a final of 70-75 as a 9.5-point underdog.

Michigan State is 13-0 at home this season as the Breslin Center continues to be one of the toughest places in the country to play. It is outscoring opponents 72.1 to 55.9 at home, or by an average of 16.2 points per game. All 13 of those wins have come by 3 points or more.

Minnesota has not been playing very well of late. It has lost four of its last six with its only wins coming at home against Nebraska and Iowa. The Spartans have won four of their last five meetings in this series, so their 76-63 road loss in their first meeting this season was rare to say the least.

The Spartans will be the more rested team having last played on January 31st in an 80-75 win over Illinois. They have had nearly a full week to prepare for Minnesota, and they certainly want revenge after losing the first meeting. Meanwhile, the Gophers last played on Sunday, February 3rd, so they have had much less time to prepare.

The home team is 4-1 against the spread in the last 5 meetings. The Spartans are 9-3 against the spread in the last 12 meetings. The Gophers are 1-5 against the spread in the last 6 meetings in Michigan St. Bet Michigan State Wednesday.

2-Unit Play. Take #705 New York (-4) over Washington (7 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 6)
The Wizards are playing great ball at home, and they have beaten some quality opponents but I don't like this match up for them. New York is playing well and Tyson Chandler is absolutely controlling the glass. The Knicks have had great success versus the Wizards as they are looking for their 11th straight win in this series. Washington, without Bradley Beal will struggle to keep pace with New York. Emeka Okafor and Nene, will struggle with the athleticism of Chandler and Amare Stoudemire, who has scored at least 14 points in nine straight games off the bench. The Knicks second group will handle the Wizards as they won't have the same scoring punch. Lay the points in this one.

2-Unit Play. Take 'Over' 182.0 Indiana at Philadelphia (7 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 6)
Indiana will not have the legs to play the same type of pressure defense that they typically do as they are on a back-to-back-to-back stretch. Philly meanwhile will be without Thaddeus Young, which will allow Indiana's front court to score much easier than they typically do. If both teams were healthy and rested I could see this game being a 75-70 play, but tonight, with the circumstances, I see both teams getting to 90 easily. The Pacers have averaged 106 points a game over their last six games and Philly has scored at least 92 points in seven of their last 10 games.

2-Unit Play. Take 'Over' 200.0 Milwaukee at Utah (9 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 6)
Utah can score the basketball, especially at home, and Milwaukee with their guard heavy play likes to push the tempo. Utah is a bit short-handed and Milwaukee is coming into this game after a trip to Denver, so defense won't be as intense as it typically is. I know that they will be a bit weary but both teams can still push the tempo and they will get easy baskets with their second units. Milwaukee is number one in the NBA in shot attempts with nearly 87 a night. With Utah's bench a bit depleted this number should be even higher with the second unit being able to play as quick as the first.

3-Unit Play. #759 Take Charlotte +9.5 over Temple (Wednesday @ 7pm est)

3-Unit Play. #772 Take Tulsa -3.5 over UAB (Wednesday @ 8:05pm est)

3-Unit Play. #802 Take Nevada +6.5 over Colorado State (Wednesday @ 10pm est)

Its never that bad of an idea to back a team that is 17-4 and grabbing nearly double-digits as Charlotte is today. Temple beat this team by 22 points last year when they teamed up and now they have revenge this time around as they hook up once again. Chris Braswell and 4 underclassman lead this team to Temple. This team has not played well in its last 2 road games losing by wide margins to George Washington, Richmond and Miami and if there is ever a time this team needs to step up on the road its today. I do like the fact the total is set at 135 points as getting nearly double-digits is fairly significant here. Though Charlotte struggles on offense they are a top 60 defensive team and for as good as Temple is especially in turnover margin and the like they have not been that impressive as it relates to covering big spreads at home. The Niners of Charlotte have done well against the better teams in the country as they are 6-2-1 ATS over their last 9 games when facing teams with a winning percentage of 60% or greater and the Owls of Temple are 2-10 ATS in their last 12 home games and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 Atlantic 10 games. Interestingly enough, we will know fairly early if this will be a cover or not as Charlotte will either stay in this game to possibly win this Outright or could get blown out. But, the chance is worth taking given Charlotte's play against the better teams in the country despite some road bumps away from home and given Temple's struggles covering the number at home. Tulsa is led by former Kansas great Danny Manning. He served as an Assistant Coach at Kansas for quite some time and finally got a shot at Tulsa. His team is 4-4 in conference play and as they come off getting routed by Memphis on the road by 30 points and losing a tight game to Southern Miss by 3 points, this is an opportunity for this team to bounce-back at home. This team just faced two teams in the top 50 in the power rankings and that is why they come off those losses but as they return to face a team outside the top 170 that should work to their favor for the win today. UAB lost to Houston by 5 points on the road who is outside the top 200 so as they face a team who is essentially top 150 when considering the splits not a bad opportunity for us to take Tulsa coming off one of the worst losses of the year. Nevada is a team that is performing well under the radar at 11-10 overall and 2-5 in conference play. And though that is not impressive straight up, they are 8-3 overall at home and 14-6-1 ATS coming off a straight up loss. As they come off tough losses to a good UNLV and New Mexico on the road, they look to bounce-back here at home. With this game being a possible look ahead for Colorado State as they look forward to playing Say Diego State at home in their next game, I can see Nevada doing well at home as they will be up for this game. The Rams are also 1-4 ATS when facing teams with a home winning percentage of greater than 60% as well.

13-5 NBA Run. Back to Back Winning Months. +$4100 Run.

3-Unit Play. #710. Take Cleveland -5.5 over Charlotte (Wednesday @ 7pm est).

3-Unit Play. #708. Take Toronto -3 over Boston (Wednesday @ 7pm est).

3-Unit Play. #725. Take Milwaukee +5.5 over Utah (Wednesday @ 9pm est).

This is a relatively small line here for Cleveland and although Charlotte has revenge, note that Cleveland has covered this game the last 6 times they have played. In fact, Cleveland has won this game straight up the last 5 times they have played as well in addition to covering this game the last 6 times they have played. With Charlotte coming off an impressive cover against the Heat fitting inside the 14 point spread, this could be a let down spot for a team that has not covered back to back games since December 29th/31st (a little more than a month). Plus, Cleveland has consistently played well against Charlotte and I just don't see that trend ending today despite they could be in for a let down after a huge win against Oklahoma City. Wins are hard to come by for this team and I like Irving, Waiters, Thompson and Speights (who scored 21 in his last game against Oklahoma City) to continue to play well. Sure, not a huge fan of the fact that 70% of the public backs Charlotte, but sometimes the public does win based on a relatively soft line. Toronto is 17-31 overall but they have also showed some spirit with the onset of Rudy Gay into their lineup and are making a push for the playoffs as wild as that may sound. You have to give the Raptors some credit as they have a legitimate star as they came to realize that DeRozan is likely to play better as a secondary scorer or a "Pippen" type player if you will to Gay. This is evidenced by 27 points against the heat and Gay's 29 points against the Heat. Combine that with Lowry and Johnson as well and you have a strong group of core players. Toronto shot very poorly against a Miami team that stepped up their defense as they were coming off a loss as they shot sub 38% from the field and I expect that to improve today. Plus, with Bargnani expected to return to the lineup, it makes for an additional shooter in the mix which should help this team get a little deeper off the bench which they could definitely use. Boston has won 4 straight and covered 4 straight ever since Rondo went out but I like this team to eventually come down to earth and it is likely today on the road against a Raptors team coming off a loss whereas Boston comes off a huge win over the Clippers at home. Boston beat this team by 18 points as well at home and with Toronto's new found lineup I like their chances to exact some revenge this evening. Milwaukee and Utah are the last games to go off the road and normally you would think this line would sit at -7 for Utah given Utah plays well at home. But, with the line being just -5.5 and opening even around -4.5 the oddsmakers do think that the Bucks have a shot at winning this game Outright. With Milwaukee coming off a tough loss against Denver on the road they will look to rebound against a quality Utah team. This is a team that beat Portland and Phoenix on the road in their last road trip and they do play well in general out west against quality teams. Plus, interestingly enough, when Utah is a sub 6 point favorite at home, it typically bodes well for the road team and this is a decent public fade on the last game on the board as I have always believed the 5.5 line favors the Underdog who is expected to win Outright. The Jazz are 1-4 ATS following a straight up win and Utah is probably looking ahead to Chicago coming to visit in their next game as Milwaukee probably wants to avoid going 0-2 on this road trip before they return home to face Detroit.

Indian Cowboy's Picks For NHL Hockey

I apologize for the absolute dud yesterday on the Rangers. We will bounce-back over the next few days and next week and produce a quality run. Its a long season and I'm confident if we work hard we'll do well.
3-Unit Play. #6 Take Edmonton -125 vs. Dallas (Wednesday @ 10:05 pm est)
The Stars are 0-7 thus far following a win and 2-7 in their last 9 road games in general. Combine that with the fact that the home team has won this game 12 out of the last 17 times it makes for a decent play here with Edmonton. Although Dallas has won this game the last 4 times these two teams have played that is likely to change as the youth movmeent in Edmonton will likely step up. With Dallas coming off a 3-2 win at Colorado and yet to win back to back games, I like them to have a bit of a let down against Edmonton. Edmonton has lost 3 straight including a tough 2-3 loss to Vancouver in overtime and I like them to bounce-back here at home. Dallas GM Joe Nieuwendyk had an extremely busy summer assembling a team full of veteran talent. The feeling in Dallas is the new pieces will blend with the holdover parts to create a playoff team. Edmonton has one of the League's youngest clubs as General manager Steve Tambellini hired Ralph Krueger to be the 11th coach in Oilers franchise history. Krueger has been tasked with taking the young talent the front office has assembled and molding a new generation of champions. Rather than overhaul the roster, the Oilers opted to re-sign a number of players, including forward Sam Gagner, defensemen Theo Peckham and Jeff Petry, and goalie Devan Dubnyk. The Oilers have lost three straight games but have shown a competitive streak that has them competing with some the NHL's elite teams. Th ?Boys from Oil Country? pushed the undefeated San Jose Sharks to the limit in a (3-2) shootout loss. They followed that up with a shoot-out loss to Vancouver in their last outing. The Home team is (12-5) in the last (17) meetings and we'll take the young Guns from Oil Country as this is one of the most entertaining teams in the NHL just waiting to break-out.

4.5-STAR PHILADELPHIA -2.5 over Indiana - Philadelphia is coming off one of the all-time ugliest wins you'll ever see. Still they won the game by 17 points, which is no small feat. They're a team which needs to win on defense, so game like their recent three-game stretch are encouraging at home.
Philadelphia defeated Orlando 78-61 in the lowest scoring game of the season. Dominating defense like that carries over to the next game. Rested teams which allowed less than 64 points last game are 33-16 ATS.
With the total at 189, that game went under by 50 points. Teams off a game which went under by more than 45 points are 68-46-2 ATS.
The 61 points allowed were 28.75 less than expected. The Seventysixers are 7-0 ATS (7.1 ppg) since December 14, 2010 as a favorite after a win in which their DPA was minus 15 points or less.
Philadelphia won easily despite shooting a brutal 3-of-20 on threes. The Seventysixers are 9-0 ATS (7.5 ppg) since March 08, 1996 after a game at home in which they shot at least twenty three-pointers and made less than a 25% of them.
A big key to that game was just not committing fouls. Philly had just 10 in the win. The Seventysixers are 6-0 ATS (7.3 ppg) since December 17, 2008 as a favorite after a double digit home win in which they were whistled for fewer than 15 personal fouls.
Indiana played at home last night and won 114-103 over Atlanta. Making 31 free throws was a big boost for their cause in the game. The Pacers are 0-10 ATS (-8.9 ppg) since April 29, 2006 as a dog after a home win in which they scored more than 25% of their points from the free throw line.
Roy Hibbert had eight shots in the game, the second straight contest he did not impose offensively. The Pacers are 0-7 ATS (-7.8 ppg) since April 15, 2009 after two home games in which Roy Hibbert took fewer than 10 shots in each.
When these teams met in December, Indiana won at home, 95-85. That was after Philly took a two-point lead to half. The Seventysixers are 6-0 ATS (5.6 ppg) since April 04, 2009 as a favorite when seeking revenge for a road loss in which they led at the half.
SPORTSBOOK BREAKERS PREDICTION: PHILADELPHIA 95, Indiana 82
4-STAR Houston and Miami Under 208 - This total is skyocketing after seeing was Houston did last night. However, Miami is going to defend the three in this game and not get fooled in trying to run with Houston. The Rockets will cool off some as well, keeping this game under.
Last night, Houston went a crazy 23-of-40 on threes in a 140-109 win over Golden State. They scored 30 points more than expected in what was already anticipated as a high scoring game. Teams which scored at least 27 points more than expected last game are 121-170-5 OU .
Of the 46 baskets they made in the game, 35 of those were assisted. The Rockets are 0-8 OU (-14.7 ppg) since March 24, 1999 on the road with at most one day of rest after a home win in which more than 75% of their baskets were assisted.
Miami is coming off a 99-94 win over Charlotte Monday. The Heat are 0-12-1 OU (-13.8 ppg) since March 27, 2006 after playing at home against the Bobcats.
Lebron went 13-of-14 from the field in that game with 31 points. The Heat are 0-7 OU (-8.1 ppg) since December 01, 2012 after a win at home in which Lebron James was the Heat's high scorer.
These teams met in November with Miami winning 113-110. The Rockets are 0-7 OU (-18.1 ppg) since January 29, 2011 when seeking revenge for a 1-3 point loss.
Chris Bosh had a strong game there with 24 points on 10-of-14 shooting. The Heat are 0-6 OU (-18.0 ppg) since March 23, 2012 after winning the previous matchup in which Chris Bosh shot better than 66% from the field.
SPORTSBOOK BREAKERS PREDICTION: MIAMI 101, Houston 96
4-STAR ORLANDO over LA Clippers - Orlando is coming off one of the all-time worst offensive performances you'll see. However, this banged up LA team is not one to back as a big road favorite right now. The Magic really need a win and at home we like them getting the points.
Orlando lost against Philadelphia Monday night, 78-61. Teams which scored 66 or fewer points last game are 103-66-2 ATS.
The combined score of both teams in that game was a mere 139 points. teams which lost a game where the total score was under 150 points are 120-93-3 ATS.
With the total at 189, that game went under by 50 points. Teams off a game which went under by more than 45 points are 68-46-2 ATS.
Orlando shot particularly bad, going 27-of-80 (33.8%) from the field while managing just six free throws. The Magic are 6-0 ATS (14.6 ppg) since December 14, 2007 after a double digit loss in which they shot less than 35% from the field.
Their struggle is masking how poorly LA has played recently, losing three straight and seven of nine including in Washington Monday. The Clippers are 0-8 ATS (-7.9 ppg) since March 22, 2000 on the road after a loss against the Wizards.
SPORTSBOOK BREAKERS PREDICTION: ORLANDO 96, La Clippers 90
4-STAR Boston and Toronto Under 188.5 - Without Rajon Rondo, Boston is playing at one of the slowest paces in the league. Their scoring totals have masked that as they've shot at least 50% in the last three games but that's bound to run out and when it does here, what will be left is a low scoring game.
Boston won a nice game Sunday, 106-104 over the Clippers. They had led big in the fourth quarter before holding on late. Teams coming off a 1-2 point win where they had led by at least 15 points are 92-142-2 OU.
LA shot 50.6% from the field in the loss. The Celtics are 0-11 OU (-14.1 ppg) since March 13, 2007 on the road after a game at home in which they allowed at least 50% from the field.
They made four more baskets than Boston in that game, with the difference coming at the foul line. The Celtics are 0-8 OU (-19.8 ppg) since March 24, 2006 as a road dog with at least one day of rest after a game at home after a win in which they made fewer baskets than their opponent.
Toronto did nice work at the foul line in their last game as well, scoring 25 points. It was not enough in a 100-85 loss to Miami. The Raptors are 0-7 OU (-14.3 ppg) since November 26, 2008 as a home favorite after a loss in which they scored more than 25% of their points from the free throw line.
These teams have not met since November. The now-injured Rajon Rondo went just 3-of-4 from the field but had 20 assists in that 107-89 win. The Celtics are 0-8 OU (-17.6 ppg) since April 06, 2010 after winning the previous matchup at home in which Rajon Rondo shot better than 66% from the field.
Kevin Garnett was an efficient scorer in that game as well with 15 points on 6-of-7 shooting. The Celtics are 0-6 OU (-10.0 ppg) since January 26, 2012 on the road after winning the previous matchup in which Kevin Garnett took fewer than 10 shots.
On the other side, Amir Johnson struggled with just one points and no makes from the field. The Raptors are 0-8-1 OU (-13.3 ppg) since April 10, 2011 after losing the previous matchup in which Amir Johnson shot worse than 33% from the field.
SPORTSBOOK BREAKERS PREDICTION: Boston 89, TORONTO 87
4-STAR Memphis -1.5 over ATLANTA - Memphis might be the best team in the league with no rest, particularly when they are motivated. With both teams unrested here and Atlanta actually making the farther trip for this game, we think Memphis carries an extra advantage here.
Memphis was upset last night, 96-90 by Phoenix. Just 15 of their 36 baskets in that game were assisted. The Grizzlies are 7-0 ATS (5.0 ppg) since December 01, 2010 with no rest after a game at home in which less than 45% of their baskets were assisted.
Tony Allen played a solid game but scored just eight points from the field. The Grizzlies are 13-0 ATS (9.0 ppg) since November 20, 2010 with no rest after a loss in which Tony Allen was not the Grizzlies' high scorer.
Mike Conley couldn't pick up the load with just nine points one 3-of-11 shooting. The Grizzlies are 6-0 ATS (6.3 ppg) since February 24, 2010 on the road with no rest after a loss in which Mike Conley scored fewer than 10 points.
It was a nice night for Zach Randolph with 21 points and 13 rebounds in the loss. The Grizzlies are 8-0 ATS (9.8 ppg) since February 17, 2010 with no rest after a loss in which Zach Randolph had a double double.
Atlanta lost last night 114-103 in Indiana. The 103 points were actually 14.5 more than expected. The Hawks are 0-6 ATS (-9.9 ppg) since March 12, 2008 as a home dog after a road loss in which their DPS was positive.
However, they also allowed 19.5 more than expected in what had been anticipated as a lower scoring game. The Hawks are 0-6 ATS (-10.5 ppg) since November 15, 2008 at home after a road loss in which their DPA was at least plus 15 points.
Committing 33 fouls didn't help Atlanta's cause in that game. The Hawks are 0-9 ATS (-6.8 ppg) since November 27, 2004 with no rest after a game in which they were whistled for at least 30 personal fouls. SPORTSBOOK BREAKERS PREDICTION: Memphis 96, ATLANTA 82

Game: Charlotte at Cleveland (7:00 PM Eastern)
Pick: Cleveland -5.5 (-110)
With Kyrie Irving playing well, the Cavaliers have won six of their last nine and five of their last six. Irving put up 35 points vs. the Thunder in a big upset win on Saturday, showing what this team can do if Irving is playing to his potential. In come the Charlotte Bobcats who have won just 11 games this season, including five on the road. Since last season, Charlotte seems to struggle even more vs. expectations when facing another bad team. Over the past two seasons, the Bobcats are just 16-28 ATS vs. losing teams and 5-20 ATS vs. teams that allow 99+ points per game! Over that span they are 20-35 ATS as an underdog in the 3.5 to 9.5 point range. They really struggle vs. up-tempo teams like Cleveland (teams that attempt 83+ shots per game), going just 5-18 ATS vs. such teams since last season. Charlotte is coming off a rare ATS win and that's not a good sign for them as they are 2-14 ATS in their next game this season after covering the number. Take the Cavs to win and cover this number.

Analysis: Phoenix is playing better since switching head coaches going to Lindsay Hunter. The Suns, though, are a terrible team and I don't see them playing well in back-to-back road games after upsetting Memphis, 96-90, last night on the road.

The Suns have a conference-low five road wins. They also are 6-17 in their last 23 games and catch the revenge-minded Hornets extremely well rested. The Hornets last played on Saturday. The Hornets are 12-3 ATS when they've had three or more days of rest. The Hornets just got through playing five straight games on the road. After thi ¿s matchup, they go back on the road three more consecutive times.

The Hornets will have Eric Gordon and Anthony Davis in the lineup. They are a completely different team when Gordon plays, capable of beating any opponent. Gordon and Davis missed the team's first meeting when the Suns pulled out a 111-108 overtime win on Nov. 23. The Suns came back from 19 down in the third quarter to pull out the victory.

706 WAS 4.5(-110) SportsInterAction vs 705 NYK double-dime bet

Analysis: Finally healthy, the Wizards are very much under-the-radar screen covering 14 of their last 18 games.

New York is playing well, too, but now goes on the road for the first time since Jan. 26.

Lottery-bound, the Wizards pick and choose which games give them extra motivation. This is one such matchup. New York has defeated Washington 10 consecutive times the last coming this season when the Wizards were missing John Wall.

Wall has helped spark the Wizards into semi-respectability. Washington has won six of its last seven games at Verizon Center, including knocking off heavyweights Miami, Oklahoma City and the Clippers. The Wizards have covered seven of their last eight.

The Knicks haven't covered more than five in a row since mid-November. They have a history of playing down to the level of their competition. The Wizards are playing their best ball. The Wizards can deal with the rebounding of Tyson Chandler thanks to the tandem of Emeka Okafor and Nene.
