Friday Cliff Notes

G-Town at Cincinnati: Bearcats looked good against 'Nova (unfortunately) but I really wonder how much of that was Villanova's youth making them look better than they are/were. Clearly they started stroking the ball, but early on when the confidence wasn't there, they threw up bricks. Hoyas have been equally impressive, but for longer. They've got a gimme next while Cincinnati travels to UConn. Clearly though, there is no such thing as a look-ahead right now in this Conference. Hoyas have a bit of a score to settle in that they lost at home to the Bearcats and lost in OT in the Big East Tournament to them as well. Hard to imagine this one going over with two of the top ten defenses in the nation, which is exactly why I might consider it, and that would be mainly because they know each other so well. Not sure I can lay points here, but it's got to be the Bearcats almost as a fade of G'Town's youth, and the fact that they will get to the line more.

Iona at Manhattan: The suddenly surging Jaspers who have won four of their last five and have a score to settle from an earlier loss at Iona, but it was only an eight point loss, so they've got every reason to think they can win this game. Iona first of three straight road games, including a tough on at Fairfield on Monday and the their bracketbuster game at Indiana State next weekend. Given their inability to play much defense and Manhattan's new-found confidence, I clearly lean to the home team here. They'll slow it down, and the Jaspers' have the #1 ranked defense in Conference play in terms of efficiency. And yes, they can defend the perimeter reasonably well.

Columbia at Brown: I suppose Brown could be dangerous here, not having played a home game in almost a month. They are a big, slow, three point shooting team, which can cause issues if they get even luke warm, especially at the pace they'll play. Columbia is almost a mirror image in what they want to do, but the do it just a bit better. Perhaps the biggest difference is that they (Columbia) do get to the line a lot, and are a good FT shooting team, and don't turn the ball over. Always tough to lay those short numbers on the road (for me), but stat-wise there is no other option. Brown capable, they've beaten Niagra and Providence, so this would certainly not be a stretch here.

Niagra at Marist: Niagra could be getting to the point where they're now over valued. That double-ot loss at home to Loyola may have been a tipping point for this young team. Whereas Marist comes in a little warm, having upset Iona on the road and beaten Loyola at home. Marist did play a great non-conference schedule was I can assure has jaded their stats to some extent. Niagra's defense is, from an efficiency standpoint, not that far behind Marist's at all. Marist has a little more experience and a little more length. Just don't like Niagra's situation here. Two Conference road games and the home next weekend against Northwestern State just doesn't sit right with me. Lean Marist for the upset here.

Wisconsin MW at Youngstown State: Youngstown, for all their January ATS wins/betting love, really only has one good win and that was at home over Valpo. Yes, it's hard to back a team as bad as MW, especially on the road, but there is Sunday's game against Green Bay that Valpo could be thinking more about. MW hasn't won a road game, and in fact hasn't really been IN a road game since early January at Wright State. They ARE bigger and they ARE more experienced (OK, older) but can we really take them seriously here. Probably better games or a total will come out, but BECAUSE MW can hit threes once in while, I couldn't rule them out.

Wisc GB at Cleveland State: Green Bay is certainly going to be loved by bettors after beating Detroit, and Cleveland State not-so-much after getting shelled by Detroit in a rare Tuesday (make up) Horizon League game. But, this is the same Cleveland State team that actually beat Detroit at home earlier this season, so let's not be quick to dismiss a home team catching a couple of possessions. GB is in a tough scheduling spot, with three of their last four Conference games on the road, in addition to a game at Drake next weekend. Cleveland State is young and tiny, while GB is one of the biggest teams in the nation. But, they'll play this game slow enough to where I certainly don't see it being a boatrace. GB can in fact be turnover prone, and one of the things the little quick team will do to the big slow team is steal the ball. I just don't know if CS can combat the massive amount of FT's GB usually takes, and makes.

NCAAB game of the day: Georgetown at Cincinnati

Georgetown Hoyas at Cincinnati Bearcats (-4)

No. 15 Georgetown puts its six-game winning streak on the line against a Cincinnati squad that has had its number in recent years. The Bearcats, who enter the game in seventh place in the Big East, have won four in a row over the Hoyas, including a 72-20 win in double overtime in the Big East championship quarterfinals. Cincinnati also won the regular season matchup, 68-64, at the Verizon Center in Washington, D.C.

The Hoyas come into the contest in a three-way tie for first place with Syracuse and Marquette and also on a roll. Georgetown has defeated three ranked teams -- Louisville, Notre Dame and Marquette -- during its win streak and has allowed 60 or more points just once since Jan. 19. The Hoyas, who still have two games remaining with Big East co-leader Syracuse, scored an impressive 63-55 victory over Marquette at home on Monday while Cincinnati comes in off a 68-50 win over Villanova on Tuesday.

TV: 9 p.m. ET, ESPN

ABOUT GEORGETOWN (18-4, 8-3): Sophomore forward Otto Porter is having a breakout season, leading the team in scoring (15.3), rebounds (7.9) and 3-point shooting percentage (44 percent). He scored a game-high 21 points, grabbed seven rebounds and had three steals in Monday's win over Marquette. Junior guard Markel Starks ranks second on the team in scoring (12.4) while making a team-best 38 3-pointers while 6-8 junior forward Nate Lubick is shooting a Big East leading 61.7 percent from the floor. But the Hoyas' strength is hard-nosed defense. Georgetown ranks eighth in the nation in scoring defense (55.7) and 11th in field goal percentage defense (37.6). The Hoyas, who scored 24 points off 19 Marquette turnovers Monday, have held their last five opponents to an average of 54 points.

ABOUT CINCINNATI (19-6, 7-5): The Bearcats have won six of the last seven meetings with Georgetown including two of three played at home. Cincinnati is led by Big East Player of the Year candidate Sean Kilpatrick, a 6-4 junior shooting guard who ranks fourth in the conference in scoring (18.2) and is second in 3-pointers made (2.68 per game) and has attracted strong attention from NBA scouts. Senior point guard Cashmere Wright is second on the team in scoring (13.4) while another guard, senior JaQuon Parker, also averages in double figures (10.9). The trio combined for 49 points in Tuesday's win over Villanova. Like Georgetown, the Bearcats get it done on the defensive end where they are holding opponents almost 13 points below their average in Big East play.

TRENDS:

* Hoyas are 6-0 ATS in their last six games overall.
* Bearcats are 1-7 ATS in their last eight home games.
* Hoyas are 0-4 ATS in the last four meetings.
* Hoyas are 4-1 ATS in their last five road games.

TIP-INS:

1. The 6-8 Porter ranks third in the Big East in 3-point shooting percentage (44.3).

2. Wright needs one steal to become the school career leader. He is currently tied with David "Puffy" Kennedy who had 189 from 1977-81.

3. Cincinnati ranks 11th in the nation in rebounding margin (plus-8.0) and has out-rebounded 20 of its 25 opponents this season.

Sharks at Blackhawks: What Bettors Need to Know

San Jose Sharks at Chicago Blackhawks (-145, 5.5)

Still in search of their first win this month, the San Jose Sharks will attempt to do something on Friday no team has been able to achieve thus far this season - defeat the Chicago Blackhawks in regulation. San Jose ran the table in January, beginning the abbreviated campaign with seven straight victories. The club's fortunes have changed completely in February as the Sharks have gone 0-3-3, scoring more than two goals only once during the winless streak while being shut out twice.

San Jose, which is 0-1-1 on its six-game road trip, would like nothing better than to be the first team to prevent Chicago from earning at least one point. The Blackhawks started the season with a six-game winning streak before falling in a shootout to the Wild in Minnesota on Jan. 30. They have gone 4-0-2 since, including a 3-2 shootout loss to the Anaheim Ducks on Tuesday in the opener of their seven-game homestand. Chicago is four away from setting the NHL record for most games without a regulation loss to start a season - a mark currently owned by the 2006-07 Ducks, who opened the campaign 12-0-4.

TV: 8:30 p.m. ET, NHL Network, CSN California (San Jose), CSN (Chicago)

ABOUT THE SHARKS (7-3-3): Matt Pelech's first stint with San Jose lasted just one game as the right wing was assigned to Worcester of the American Hockey League on Wednesday. Pelech, who appeared in five contests with the Calgary Flames during his only previous season in the NHL in 2008-09, had 11:23 of ice time while engaging in a fight against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Monday but was a healthy scratch for the 1-0 overtime loss to the Nashville Predators the following night. The Sharks are hoping to avenge a 5-3 home loss on Feb. 5 in which it squandered a pair of two-goal leads in the first period.

ABOUT THE BLACKHAWKS (10-0-3): Nearly everything is clicking for Chicago thus far this season. The one part of its game that needs work, however, is the power play. The Blackhawks rank 16th in the league at 18.2 percent after a 1-for-6 performance on Tuesday. They spent all but 1:20 of overtime with the man advantage but were unable to produce the winning goal. Patrick Kane had his five-game goal-scoring streak snapped against Anaheim but extended his point streak to seven contests with an assist. Kane, who is tied for second in the league in scoring with 20 points, has gotten his name on the scoresheet in all but one of Chicago's 13 games.

TRENDS:

* Home team is 5-1 in the last six meetings.
* Under is 6-0 in Blackhawks’ last six home games.
* Under is 8-2 in Sharks’ last 10 overall.
* Blackhawks are 5-1 in their last six vs. Pacific foes.

OVERTIME:

1. San Jose returns to Chicago next Friday for the fifth game of its road trip.

2. The Blackhawks had played only twice at the United Center before hosting Anaheim on Tuesday.

3. The Sharks are 2-for-34 on the power play over their last eight contests.

Handicapping Ivy League schools off back-to-backs

With the college basketball season now in full conference swing, let’s examine a handicapping theory that yields a much better return on your investment than the banks do these days.

It deals with teams playing back-to-back days without rest during the regular season. In particular, Ivy League games, noted for playing back-to-back contests on Friday and Saturday nights.

What we’re looking to target on is how brain-chain teams fare the second night of these no-rest affairs. Let’s take a closer look at a few of the more suitable situations.

Creaky Double Digit Chalk

According to our database, the worst role for these teams is as double-digit home favorites, where they are just 53-82-3 ATS overall since the 1990-91 season.

Even worse, double-digit faves with a .687 or greater win percentage are just 16-38 ATS.

Digging deeper, if these tired hosts are facing an opponent that was a dog of 16 or more points the previous night, they check in at 14-34 ATS, including 5-20 ATS provided chalk has lost two or more home games this season.

Fool Me Twice

Revenge serves as a motivating tool in these no-rest Ivy League matchups, especially when we bring a visiting team in with double-revenge incentive from a pair of losses suffered last season.

That’s confirmed by a 50-32-1 ATS mark when these wonder-boys are on the road, including 34-13-1 ATS when taking seven or more points fueled with double-revenge incentive.

Better yet, bring these guys in with a lukewarm win percentage of .375 or less in this role and they make the Dean’s List, going 26-8 ATS.

Triskaidekaphobia Road

Our third and final theorem occurs when these non-rested Ivy Leaguers are on the Saturday night road as dogs off a loss of 13 or more points.

Dress them up as dogs in this role and they're 62-47-1 ATS, including 39-24 ATS when taking 10 or more points.

Bring them into these same games with a win percentage of .400 or less and they ratchet up to 35-14 ATS, including 21-6 ATS when facing a foe off a win of more than 10 points.

There you have it, the perfect calamine lotion for Ivy League teams in constant motion.

Keep an eye on this hypothesis throughout the end of the Ivy League campaign. Remember, should you feel a strange itch coming on, don’t scratch it. Simply apply the proper antidote.

Game: Boston at Buffalo (7:00 PM Eastern)
Pick: Boston -135 (moneyline)
The Boston Bruins are on the fast track as they enter this contest with Buffalo with an 8-1-2 mark through 11 games. Boston has really gotten things done on the back-side of the ice, and in front of the net, with over half their opponents scoring one time or less. Buffalo jumped out quickly, winning their first two games, but have won just two since. And unlike the Bruins, they haven't been able to stop many attacks, allowing 3 goals or more in 10 games on the season. The Bruins have dominated the Northeast as they are 21-5 in their last 26 against them while the Sabres now 0-6 when following a game where they scored 2 or less. Play on Boston.

Five injuries NHL bettors should pay attention to

Now that we’re about 25 percent of the way through the NHL season, we’re starting to get to that point in the year where injuries are playing a key role in handicapping puck bets.

Here’s a look at a few injuries bettors should be aware of and why. (Statistics are as of before Friday, Feb. 15 games).

Miikka Kiprusoff, Calgary Flames goaltender – Knee sprain, hopeful return late February

The injury to the Flames’ workhorse netminder, who has played at least 70 games every year since the 2005-06 season, is huge. It thrusts 24-year-old Leland Irving into the starting role, who had just seven games of NHL experience coming into the season. He has an .895 save percentage with a 2.93 goals against average in five games. The Flames may need to start scoring to win, like they did Wednesday night (7-4 over Dallas).

Johan Franzen, Red Wings right wing – hip flexor, day-to-day but out Friday vs. Anaheim

They don’t call this guy "The Mule" for nothing and his recent injury is especially tough on Detroit, which is now down three right wingers (Todd Bertuzzi, Mikael Samuelsson). He doesn’t always end up on the scoreboard, but Franzen is a huge presence on Detroit’s power play and in the corners. It's no shock the Red Wings had a three-game winning streak snapped without him against St. Louis Wednesday.

Brooks Laich, Washington Capitals center – groin, hopes to return late February

Laich hasn’t played yet this season, but his absence is one quiet reason why the Caps are in the basement in the Southeast. He’s a physical, consistent two-way center who can also score 20 goals and it’s often his line’s shifts that change momentum when Washington plays flat – which it tends to do. With Alex Semin gone to Carolina, Laich's return won’t be too soon.

Jaroslav Halak, St. Louis Blues goaltender – groin, out indefinitely

The Blues are the kind of team that likes to win 2-1. Since Halak got hurt six games ago, they’ve given up at least three goals in every contest and a total of 28 (4.67 goals per game). They gone 7-0-2 over/under in their last nine games overall.

Erik Karlsson, Ottawa Senators defenseman – Achilles, out for season

Obviously, it’s huge when you lose the reigning Norris Trophy winner, who had 10 points in 13 games for Ottawa. But this could be one of those injuries that oddsmakers and bettors tend to overvalue. A hot goalie can compensate for a lot and Craig Anderson could be the best in the league right now. The Sens are an under team this year with a 4-10 over/under record. When some of their injured forwards start returning, there could be some value here.

Around the rink: Friday's NHL betting news and notes

Take a look at our quick-hitting betting notes for all eight games on the NHL schedule Friday.

Boston Bruins at Buffalo Sabres (+124, 5.5)

Probable goaltenders: Anton Khudobin (BOS), Ryan Miller (BUF)

Boston has collected nine of a possible 10 points on the road (4-0-1), including two in its last meeting with Buffalo - a 3-1 triumph on Sunday. The Sabres could benefit from some production on the power play. Buffalo is just 1-for-27 with the man advantage this month. The Sabres are 1-4 in their last five home games.

Philadelphia Flyers at New Jersey Devils (-138, 5)

Probable goaltenders: Ilya Bryzgalov (PHI), Martin Brodeur (NJ)

After a 2-6-0 start, the Flyers are 4-1-1 in their last six contests, including a 3-2 victory over the Winnipeg Jets on Tuesday in the second of a season-high six-game road trip. New Jersey has taken the last five straight meetings, including a 3-0 victory on Jan. 22, when Martin Brodeur made 24 saves en route to extending his NHL record for shutouts to 120. The under is 5-0 in the Flyers’ last five games against Atlantic opponents.

Pittsburgh Penguins at Winnipeg Jets (+134, 5.5)

Probable goaltenders: Marc-Andre Fleury (PIT), Ondrej Pavelec (WPG)

Jets goaltender Al Montoya suffered a lower-body injury in Tuesday’s loss and is week-to-week, meaning Ondrej Pavelec will be between the pipes after posting a 3.28 GAA and .886 save percentage thus far. Winnipeg’s penalty-killing is a league-worst 67.5 percent, but the Jets have killed 11 of 15 penalties at home. Winnipeg took the previous meeting by a score of 4-2 at home on Jan. 25 and the home team is 4-1 in the last five clashes.

Anaheim Ducks at Detroit Red Wings (-120, 5.5)

Probable goaltenders: Viktor Fasth (ANH), Jimmy Howard (DET)

Viktor Fasth improved to 6-0-0 in his first NHL season after turning aside 28 shots as Anaheim recorded a 3-2 triumph over Chicago on Tuesday. With Jonas Hiller nursing a lower-body injury, Fasth has been stellar and boasts a stingy 1.74 goals-against average. But the Red Wings are also solid in goal. Jimmy Howard is 7-2-1 with three shutouts in his career versus Anaheim. The under is 9-0 in the Ducks’ last nine games playing on two days rest.

San Jose Sharks at Chicago Blackhawks (-135, 5.5)

Probable goaltenders: Antti Niemi (SJ), Ray Emery (CHI)

San Jose ran the table in January, beginning the abbreviated campaign with seven straight victories. The club's fortunes have changed completely in February as the Sharks have gone 0-3-3, scoring more than two goals only once during the winless streak while being shut out twice. Chicago (10-0-3) is four games away from setting the NHL record for most games without a regulation loss to start a season - a mark currently owned by the 2006-07 Ducks, who opened the campaign 12-0-4. The under is 6-0 in the Blackhawks’ last six home games.

St. Louis Blues at Calgary Flames (+107, 5.5)

Probable goaltenders: Jake Allen (STL), Leland Irving (CGY)

This game features two teams that are deadly with the man advantage, so scoring could be aplenty if the penalties begin to pile up. St. Louis has the best power play in the NHL this season, scoring on 34.7 percent of its opportunities and Calgary is tied for second in the league on the power play with a 27.5 percent conversion rate. The over is 7-0-2 in the Blues’ last nine games overall.

Dallas Stars at Vancouver Canucks (-184, 5)

Probable goaltenders: Kari Lehtonen (DAL), Cory Schneider (VAN)

Vancouver enters on a six-game winning streak and could be bolstered by the return of C Ryan Kesler (shoulder, wrist). The Canucks have displayed great scoring depth thus far as 14 different skaters have netted at least one goal. Stars netminder Kari Lehtonen is riding a personal five-game winning streak, allowing a total of eight goals in that span. The over is 9-1-1 in the last 11 meetings in Vancouver.

Columbus Blue Jackets at Los Angeles Kings (-188, 5)

Probable goaltenders: Steve Mason (CBJ), Jonathan Quick (LAK)

Coming off their biggest offensive output of the season, the Columbus Blue Jackets begin a six-game road trip Friday against the Los Angeles Kings. Columbus, which posted a 6-2 victory over the struggling San Jose Sharks on Monday, had scored a total of six goals over its previous three games. Los Angeles is returning home from a 2-3-0 road trip that concluded Monday with a 4-1 victory over the St. Louis Blues. The Blue Jackets are 4-1 in their last five Friday contests.

Penguins / Jets OVER 5.5 -120 *1 Unit*
Penguins PL -1.5 +205 *0.75 Units*
The last game these two teams played was 4-2, and believe it not that is a low scoring game between these two teams. Pittsburgh can put up an 8 spot on Winnipeg, and have, twice last year. Which is obviously why we like the PIT PL as well. If you put up an 8 spot, you are definitely winning by 2.

Blues / Flames UNDER 5.5 -115 *1 Unit*
The under is us looking at the history between these two teams. It is 17-3-2 in the last 22 meetings in Calgary, and 8-2 in the last 10 meetings in general.

Sharks / Blackhawks UNDER 5.5 -125 *1 Unit*
These two teams are 17-8 to the under this season, while the under is 6-0 in Chicago's last 6 home games.

Blues ML -118 *1 unit*
Canucks ML + Blues ML + Blackhawks +0.5 (REG) +303 *0.75 Units*
The Canucks have taken 6 of the last 7 against the Stars in Vancouver, and 8 of the last 10 meetings in general. Add to that Lehtonen has a terrible career record against the Canucks, and we love them at ML. The Blues have taken 3 of 4 from Calgary and look like they are finally turning a corner after a bad stretch of games. Chicago has yet to lose a game in regulation, if they lose, chances are it will be in OT, and the +0.5 REG would still hit.

Georgetown Hoyas vs. Cincinnati Bearcats
With the NBA on its All-Star break, the Big East looks to take advantage
with a rare Friday night game as the 15th ranked Georgetown Hoyas (18-4, 11-7
ATS) take on the Cincinnati Bearcats (19-6, 10-11 ATS) at Fifth Third Arena
in Cincinnati at 9:00 ET on ESPN. The very young Hoyas, who start five
underclassmen, have exceeded some expectations this season by playing some
vintage Georgetown defense, and they come in riding a six-game winning streak.
Cincinnati also has fine defensive numbers, but the Bearcats have been more
erratic while going 7-5 in Big East play after going 12-1 while losing only to
New Mexico out of conference.

Georgetown is ranked 15th on the AP poll but 26th on the Pomeroy Ratings,
where the Hoyas are held back by ranking 102nd in offensive efficiency.
However, their defense can stop anyone as they rank seventh in defensive
efficiency and 14th in effective field goal percentage against. That defense alone
has practically carried Georgetown to its 18-4 record, and besides one bad
loss at South Florida, the other there losses came to Indiana in overtime,
Marquette on the road and to underrated Pittsburgh at home. The Hoyas avenged
the Marquette loss by beating the Golden Eagles 63-55 on Monday and the
current six-game win streak includes a big home win over Louisville and a
16-point road win at Norte Dame, which is never an easy place to play. Now
Georgetown is not a terrible shooting team, ranking 71st in effective field goal
percentage and 44th in two-point shooting at 51.2 percent, but its offensive
efficiency is dragged down by ranking 205th in offensive rebounding percentage
and it is not a good foul shooting team at 66.5 percent. Still, the defense
is good enough to overcome that vs. teams that do not have explosive
offenses, and Cincinnati certainly does not.

In fact, the Bearcats are mirror images of Georgetown stylistically but
they are actually a worse shooting team. Cincinnati is ranked eighth in the
country in defensive efficiency and ninth in field goal percentage against,
although it has not been as good since conference play started, ranking only
eighth in field goal percentage against during Big East games. However, while
the Bearcats rank 76th in offensive efficiency they are just 202nd in
effective field goal percentage, 217th in two-point shooting and 197th in
three-point shooting. The reason Cincinnati ranks higher than Georgetown in
offensive efficiency is because the Bearcats are an excellent offensive rebounding
team ranking 10th in the nation in that category. Cincinnati has also won the
last four head-to-head meetings, but that could work against the Bearcats
here as the Hoyas now have the talent to gets some much needed revenge.

Cincinnati is a small favorite here, and the underdogs are 5-2 ATS in the
last seven head-to-head meetings. Cincinnati is also 1-7 ATS in its last
eight home games and 2-6 ATS in its last eight games following a straight up
win. Sometimes you have to say the HELL with trends.
Pick: CINCINNATI BEARCATS-3.5

Indian Cowboy's Picks For College Basketball

There is obviously no NBA today due to the All-Star Festivities underway. Here is Today's College Basketball picks to NBA clients just to say thank you. We've been on a bit of a down tick in the NBA as we approach the half way point of the season and will work towards turning it around the second half for a strong push that we are capable of. Thanks for trust and patronage as always:

3-Unit Play. #806. Take Dartmouth +10 over Princeton (Friday @ 7pm est).

3-Unit Play. #807. Take Penn +11.5 over Harvard (Friday @ 7pm est).

3-Unit Play. #809. Take Wisconsin-Milwaukee +10.5 over Youngstown State (Friday @ 7pm est).

Friday Night Lights are always interesting and fun in college basketball. For as long as I've been doing this, it works well with the Underdog style of play that we do as Friday's are heavy public wagering days on favorites and therefore because there are only so many games on the board as it is a travel and rest day for most teams, it makes for a good opportunity for the public to get buried and buried behind the eight-ball before Saturday even begins. Fridays in general are great days to take underdogs. We look motivation as our standard bearer in games and such is the case here here with Dartmouth at home catching points against Princeton. Sure, Princeton is the better team but this game is expected to reach 120 and for us to be given 1/12th of the points before the game even starts in what is a rivalry game is worth it. Dartmouth is a very young team gaining confidence as well. Though they are 6-14 overall right now, they are 4-3 since early January and come off a bad loss to Cornell on the road they would like to forget. This is a team that hung tough Harvard on the road and lost in overtime who is the standard bearer of this conference for some time. I like Dartmouth here to hang tough and to continue (http://endzone.docsports.com/post_picks/post.html#) to play good basketball and to keep this game likely in the single digits. The Tigers or Princeton are 0-4 ATS when facing teams with a winning percentage of less than 40% meaning they do not cover large spreads well. And the Big Green of Dartmouth are 4-1-1 ATS coming off a straight up loss. Penn is the type of dog that I love to play. Its beautiful. You have a team here that is 5-17, facing a 13-7 team, a public fade on a Friday Night to boot which makes it appealing for us. Penn will likely get no post-season and they are going no where as it relates to big upcoming games. So, this is their playoff or postseason game if you will. They get to play a dominant squad such as Harvard who they have been a little born thorn to for quite some time. Penn has covered the last 4 of 6 times these two teams have played and though they are 5-17, they recently crushed Brown at home to get some confidence and although I am a bit worried they might have a let down, I do think they get up for this game. This is the same team that lost to Temple by 7 points on the road, Princeton by 12 on the road, Butler by 13 on the road and a good LeHigh team by 7 on the road. I like Penn to hang tough in a game that is expected to go to 132 and wouldn't be surprised if they come through in a backdoor. Sure Harvard comes off a loss but Harvard is likely looking ahead to a date with Princeton on the horizon in their next game. Finally, Wisconsin-Milwaukee is a nice underdog for us to look at today. This is a team that lost to Youngstown State by just 3 points at home and sure that doesn't necessarily mean they will be competitive on the road against a State team who will look to flex their muscle today. But, only 135 points are expected here and for a WM team that just beat Loyola Chicago and has a senior and junior leading the way and facing a State team that has dropped 3 of its last 4, its not a far cry to say that WM hangs in there after starting off the game slow. State also has an important date with Wisconsin Green Bay on the horizon who is one of the better teams in conference play and its hard to expect them to get up for this game. The Penguins of Youngstown State are 0-3-1 ATS when facing teams with a winning percentage of 40% of better (meaning they struggle to cover larger spreads against weaker teams) and the Penguins are 3-12-2 ATS covering on Friday Night games as they are typically public favorites on such limited Friday Night cards and typically lead to a public loss.

3-Unit Play. #55. Take Philadelphia Flyers +125 vs. New Jersey (Friday @ 7:05 pm est)
The New Jersey Devils are an opportunistic, defensive-oriented team and they put themselves in position to clinch their fifth trip to the Stanley Cup Final last season. After their surprise run to the Stanley Cup Final, the Devils bid farewell to team captain Zach Parise, who signed a 13-year contract with Minnesota. The coaching staff also took some hits with the departures of highly respected assistants Adam Oates, who was hired as Washington coach, and Larry Robinson, who took an assistant job with San Jose. An old rival show up at the Prudential Center on Friday Night and they are going to be in a very bad mood. The Boys from the "City of Brotherly Love" have a score to settle after the Devils sent them packing in last season's Stanley Cup Playoffs. Goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov was brought in prior to last season and signed to a nine-year contract with the hope he could solve the franchise's long-term quest for stability in the net. Though Bryzgalov played well at times, he was wildly inconsistent on and off the ice. Look for Philadelphia to get some revenge and shock the Devils!

Manhattan +2.5 8 units
8 Unit Play Take #816 Manhattan +2.5 over Iona (7:00pm est):

One of the biggest mysteries early this season in all of CBB was what was wrong with the Manhattan Jaspers? Returning all five starters from last year's biggest surprise team in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, most predicted that this group would only improve in 2nd year head coach Steve Masiello's system. That wasn't the case early on this season as a few key injuries combined with a fairly tough schedule and overall poor play led to a slow start for this group. Things finally started to fall into place a few weeks back despite the fact they lost two very tough games on the road against two quality foes at Niagara and Canisius, losing both road games by just four points each. A road win at Rider and three straight victories, the last being the most impressive on the road versus Fairfield has the Jaspers playing as well as they have all season long right now. They rank first in the conference in two point defensive field goal percentage, a sure sign this team is playing much better than their 7-7 conference record. Now they come home here with ESPNU in town and what's expected to be a very enthusiastic crowd to face one of their top rivals here in this one.

Iona comes in losers of three of their last four games overall and also three of their last four on the road. Iona hasn't looked very good away from home in conference play most of this season with losses at St. Peter's, at Rider, at Niagara and at Canisius. Not an easy spot here as the Gaels also must go on the road this coming Monday and face off against one of the top conference teams at Fairfield in what should be another huge conference contest. This should be a battle of strength on strength here in this one as Iona is known as the top offensive school in league play but usually it's the defense that wins these kinds of battles.

Perfect spot for a Manhattan team here at home in what is a big Friday night home game and one that they know they must win. It's also "white out" night here in this one as everyone on campus knows just how big this game is overall. The betting market is grading this team more on their season long resume when the reality is this team is nothing like the team they were back a few months ago. If you throw those games out and focus just how this team has played the last six weeks or so you notice a much better team all around. Manhattan should be able to shut Iona down and get the win here in this one. Take Manhattan here in this game. Big weekend on tap as Saturday CBB is where I have made my mark here in 2013 with a record of 15-6 overall for this particular day. With so many games too choose from let me find the one's where the books are making their biggest mistakes. Lots of games going tomorrow that I like and should overall be another profitable day on the CBB hardwoods. Keep in mind that I have had four perfect Saturday's already so far this year and this is also with multiple plays of two or more on each card.

Anaheim +119 over DETROIT

OT included. Detroit has allowed 36 goals in 13 games. Not terrible but it does mask a current issue. The Red Wings are allowing far too many quality scoring chances and against this group of sharpshooters it could spell trouble. The Wings aren’t scoring as much as previous years either. They miss the presence of Tomas Holstrom in front of the net in addition to the 30 minutes that Nicklas Lindstrom logged every night for 20 years. For the first time in years, the Red Wings are not a lock to make the playoffs.

Because the Ducks play on the West Coast, we’re not sure people realize how good this team really is. 12 games in and the Ducks are 9-2-1. They rank among the leaders in both goals scored and goals against and it’s not like they’ve played an easy schedule either. Anaheim opponents win % sits at .626, making it the most difficult in the league. The Ducks can win shootouts as they did in recent 6-5 and 7-4 wins over St. Louis and Los Angeles respectively. They can win tight games as they displayed in recent 3-1 and 2-1 wins over Minnesota and San Jose. As a pooch against a team that is struggling defensively like the Red Wings, there is nothing but value on this unheralded visitor.

Dallas +171 over VANCOUVER

OT included. After a slightly shaky start, the Canucks have shot up the standings with six straight wins, outscoring their opposition by a sick 19-6 combined. However, a close look reveals that only one team in the group that Vancouver disposed of is currently above .500. That’s not to knock the Canucks. They’re certainly among the elite teams but in this season of parity and unpredictability, the price in this one will dictate the play.

Dallas is coming off a 7-4 loss to the Flames but the score is worse than the performance. Backup goaltender Richard Bachman was simply awful, allowing six goals on 16 shots before getting yanked. Dallas scored four times on 34 shots. Prior to that, the Stars had won five of six games and they’re one of only two clubs to defeat the Ducks this season. Winning in Vancouver is not an easy task but Dallas is a quality club that has scored 17 times over it last five games and that is very capable of defeating anyone on a given night. For this one, the reward outweighs the risk.

Cincinnati -4 over Georgetown

This Cincinnati team will never win pretty and that is exactly what I like about them in a year with so much uncertainty. Great backcourt and guys who can rebound and block shots. Everyone on this team contributes and that is why I like them tonight and I like them to run deep into the tournament. This is my long shot team to win it all. Take Cincinnati.
