Study Group: Sunday's Top 25 NCB Betting Notes

Check out our quick-hitting betting notes on Sunday’s ranked college basketball games:

Penn State at (5) Michigan (-23.5)

Losers of three of four, the Michigan Wolverines have an excellent opportunity to right the ship when they host last-place Penn State. The Nittany Lions came close to their first conference win Thursday, falling 74-72 to Iowa. Penn State has lost 14 consecutive road games in the Big Ten but at the very least, it might be getting closer, as three of the Lions' last four games have been decided by single digits. The Wolverines are 0-4 ATS in their last four games overall.

(14) Ohio State at (19) Wisconsin (-2)

When Ohio State and Wisconsin played on Jan. 29, the Buckeyes used a second-half tear to pull out a win. But Sunday's rematch in Madison features a much-improved Badger squad that has gone 3-1 since that defeat, including a win over then-No. 3 Michigan. Both these teams, as well as Michigan, are two games behind Big Ten co-leaders Indiana and Michigan State. The loser of this game will have its conference championship hopes essentially dissolved, while the winner lives to see another day. The Badgers have won nine of their last 10 at home against the Buckeyes, with the lone Ohio State victory since 2000 coming last season.

(12) Louisville at South Florida (+13)

Louisville recovered from its epic 104-101 five-overtime loss at Notre Dame last weekend, defeating St. John’s 72-58 at home. The Cardinals are back on the road on Sunday, visiting the South Florida Bulls, who haven’t won in seven games. Louisville has outscored its opponents 975-767 in the second half this season and is holding foes to 39.6% scoring from the field. The Cardinals are 8-0 ATS in the last eight meetings.

(9) Arizona at Utah (+9)

When Arizona defeated Utah in early January, the Wildcats were in the midst of a run where just about everything was going their way, especially late in games. Arizona hopes to recapture some of the same magic to avoid its first three-game losing streak in nearly three years when they visit the Utes. Arizona improved to 14-0 with its Jan. 5 victory over Utah, capping a three-game stretch in which it won each game in the final seconds or overtime. The Wildcats are 6-4 since that contest and have dropped two straight following a four-game winning streak. Utah is 2-2 over its last four after losing seven of eight to begin conference play. The Utes have won both of their home games in February and are coming off a 60-55 victory over Arizona State. The road team is 6-0 ATS in the last six meetings.

(4) Miami-Florida at Clemson (+7)

Miami was unranked as recently as four weeks ago, but turned heads with a 27-point victory over then-No. 1 Duke on Jan. 23. Historically, the Hurricanes have struggled at Clemson, owning a 1-5 all-time record, but Miami has had no problems playing on the road this season. They’ve won nine straight away from home, which is tied for the second-most road wins in the nation heading into the weekend. Clemson is coming off a 56-53 win Thursday against Georgia Tech but the Tigers are 0-4 against ranked teams this season. The Hurricanes are 1-5 ATS in the last six meetings.

NBA All-Star Game: What Bettors Need to Know

Eastern Conference All-Stars at Western Conference All-Stars (-3, 291)

The best basketball players in the world will gather Sunday for the 62nd annual NBA All-Star Game at the Toyota Center in Houston.

This year’s event will feature seven first-time All-Stars, the most since 2005. It’s the third time Houston will host the event. The last time was in 2006 when the East toppled the West, 122-120, earning LeBron James his first All-Star Game MVP.

TV: 8:00 p.m. ET, TNT

ABOUT THE EAST: Chris Bosh will start in the All-Star game in place of injured Boston PG Rajon Rondo, giving the NBA champion Miami Heat three starters for the Eastern Conference. Bosh says he was told Friday by Miami coach Erik Spoelstra, who will lead the East, that he had earned the starting nod. Dwyane Wade, who will be the only guard starting for the East, and LeBron James complete the trio of Heat starters. Knicks forward Carmelo Anthony will also be in the starting lineup despite suffering a deep right arm contusion against the Raptors Wednesday. The Celtics’ Kevin Garnett rounds out the starting cast for the East.

ABOUT THE WEST: The Los Angeles Lakers' Kobe Bryant (1,591,437) edged the Miami’s LeBron James (1,583,646) as this year's leading vote-getter in All-Star Balloting, earning his record 15th consecutive All-Star nod. Bryant breaks a tie with Jerry West, Karl Malone and Shaquille O'Neal for the most consecutive NBA All-Star selections.Bryant's partner at the guard position in the Western Conference starting lineup is the Clippers' Chris Paul. The West's starting frontcourt features the Thunder's Kevin Durant, the Lakers' Dwight Howard, and the Clippers' Blake Griffin. San Antonio Spurs coach Gregg Popovich will coach the West for the third time in his career.

TRENDS:

* The West has won three of the last four meetings straight up and covered in four of the last six (4-1-1 ATS) All-Star Games.

* The East holds a 37-24 all-time SU advantage in the event.

* The over is also an impressive 5-0-1 in the last six glorified track meets. Teams have combined to score an average of 280.6 points during that span and have played over the number by an average of 14.3 points.

* The 291-point total is 7.5 points higher than last year's All-Star Game total of 283.5. The 2011-12 All-Star clash (West 152, East 149) was the highest-scoring regulation time finish in the 61-year history of the event.

Kings at Blackhawks: What Bettors Need to Know

Los Angeles Kings at Chicago Blackhawks (-128, 5)

The Chicago Blackhawks opened their season with a 5-2 victory at Los Angeles. On Sunday, the Blackhawks host the Kings sporting the best record in the NHL. Chicago is the only team without a regulation loss this season, and not even an upper-body injury to starting goaltender Corey Crawford could cool its hot start. Ray Emery made 27 saves in a 4-1 win over San Jose on Friday. Emery is 4-0-0 this season and will likely start until Crawford is ready to return.

Los Angeles has won two straight since benching starting goaltender Jonathan Quick, who has not played close to his Vezina-nominated form from last season with a .891 save percentage in 10 starts. Jonathan Bernier has held opponents to one goal in each of his two starts this week as the Kings won back-to-back games in regulation for the first time this season. Los Angeles was 1-for-5 on the power play in both wins and is 3-1-1 when scoring with the man advantage.

TV: 3:30 p.m. ET, NBC, TSN 2

ABOUT THE KINGS (5-5-2): Anze Kopitar leads the team with eight points and is on a three-game scoring streak. Jeff Carter has a team-leading six goals, while Justin Williams has one goal on a team-leading 44 shots. Defenseman Drew Doughty is a team-worst minus-9 but leads the team with 16 blocked shots. Defenseman Slava Voynov has five points in six games this month. Kyle Clifford has seven points to go with his team-leading 42 hits.

ABOUT THE BLACKHAWKS (11-0-3): Patrick Kane leads Chicago with nine goals and 21 points and has been held off the scoresheet just once this season. Kane has seven goals and 12 points on an eight-game scoring streak. Captain Jonathan Toews and Marian Hossa each have six goals thus far. The Blackhawks have the second-best penalty-killing in the league, allowing only four goals on 51 opportunities for 92.2% effectiveness.

TRENDS:

* The under is 7-0 in Blackhawks’ last seven home games.
* Under is 2-0-2 in Kings’ last four overall.
* Blackhawks are 6-1 in their last seven vs. Pacific foes.
* Road team is 5-1 in the last six meetings.

OVERTIME:

1. The Kings won both visits to Chicago last season after going winless in six trips over the previous three seasons.

2. The Blackhawks tied the 1943-44 Canadiens for the third-longest point streak to open the season at 14 games. Only the 1984-85 Oilers (15) and 2006-07 Ducks (16) have had better starts.

3. Toews has four goals and three assists in his last five games against Los Angeles.

62nd NBA ALL-STAR GAME

Game tips off Sunday in Houston
by Brian Graham

Toyota Center - Houston, TX
Tip-off: Sunday, 8:05 p.m. EDT
Line: West -3.5, Total: 291

Another expected offensive showcase will take place on Sunday night with the 62nd edition of the NBA All-Star Game at Toyota Center in Houston.

This will be the third All-Star Game in Houston, with the first game held in 1989 at the Astrodome and 2006 event at this same Toyota Center. A 21-year-old LeBron James won the MVP in that '06 game with 29 points, leading his East team to a 122-120 victory. His current teammate Dwyane Wade scored 20 points on 9-of-11 FG in that contest, making the game-winning layup with 16 seconds left in regulation. But a lot has changed in the past seven seasons, and the West roster is clearly the superior roster now, especially in terms of point guards Chris Paul, Tony Parker and Russell Westbrook, who should have their way with East point men Jrue Holiday and Kyrie Irving. The East's starting PG Rajon Rondo is out for the season with a torn ACL. This game is all about scoring and the West has six 20-point scorers (Parker, Westbrook, Kevin Durant, Kobe Bryant, James Harden and LaMarcus Aldridge), while the East has just four (James, Wade, Irving and Carmelo Anthony). The West also has superior frontcourt talent on offense with Aldridge, Dwight Howard, Blake Griffin and Tim Duncan all scoring at least 16.3 PPG, compared to the East's low-scoring big men of Kevin Garnett, Tyson Chandler and Joakim Noah who all score 15.1 PPG or lower. And finally, don't forget to factor in the hometown MVP angle, where players from the host city have a tendency to get more shots and hoist the MVP trophy in front of his home fans.
This makes Rockets SG James Harden a good bet to lead his WESTERN CONFERENCE team to the comfortable win on Sunday night.

Experience could be a huge factor in this game, as Harden is the only West player that will be making his All-Star debut, compared to six first-timers for the East squad: Chandler, Noah, Holiday, Irving, Paul George and Brook Lopez, who was named the replacement for Rajon Rondo. The All-Star teams combined for 301 points in Orlando last year, the third straight season where at least 280 points were scored in this exhibition.

Kobe Bryant is playing in a record 15th straight All-Star Game, a run that has included four MVP awards. In last year's 152-149 West win, Bryant broke Michael Jordan's NBA record for most career All-Star Game points, as Bryant poured in 27 points in 35 minutes of action. But it was teammate Kevin Durant who took home the MVP with 36 points (14-of-25 FG), seven rebounds and three steals. Chris Paul didn't shoot much in Orlando (8 points on 3-of-7 FG), but had 12 assists and just two turnovers. His Clippers teammate Blake Griffin finished with 22 points (9-of-12 FG) and eight rebounds. Russell Westbrook provided a spark off the bench for the West in last season's game with 21 points (10-of-17 FG) and five rebounds, all on the offensive glass. Although Tim Duncan (knee) returned to action on Wednesday, he is questionable to play in his 14th All-Star Game, especially with his cautious head coach Gregg Popovich leading the West in this game.

The East certainly has its work cut out, but showed great determination in last year's contest, cutting a 21-point deficit to one point in the final minute of its three-point defeat. LeBron James scored 36 points with seven assists and six boards in last year's game, while Wade produced a triple-double with 24 points (11-of-15 FG), 10 rebounds and 10 assists. Miami head coach Erik Spoelstra will actually start three of his players, with James, Wade and Chris Bosh replacing the injured Rondo in the starting lineup. However, Bosh had just seven points on 3-of-9 FG in last year's game. The East will certainly rely on Carmelo Anthony who leads the conference with 28.6 PPG this season. Anthony produced solid numbers in last year's game with 19 points and nine rebounds (four offensive) in his 30 minutes of action. Starting C Kevin Garnett should log a good number of minutes on Sunday too, as he is likely playing in his 15th -- and final -- All-Star Game. He didn't play in last year's contest, but did take home the MVP in the 2003 event in Minnesota, scoring 37 points on 17-of-24 shooting. The only East reserve that has played in an All-Star game is Luol Deng, who saw a team-low six minutes in last year's loss, going 0-for-2 from the field.

No. 13 OSU travels to No. 20 Wisconsin Sunday
by Brian Graham

Kohl Center - Madison, WI
Tip-off: Sunday, 1:00 p.m. ET
Line: Wisconsin -2

Another marquee matchup takes place in the Big Ten on Sunday when No. 13 Ohio State visits No. 20 Wisconsin, coming off three straight overtime games.

Both schools are tied for third in the stacked conference with an 8-4 record, but OSU has dropped two of its past three contests, and is 1-3 ATS in February. The Badgers had their three-game win streak snapped on Thursday with a 58-53 road loss at Minnesota. These schools are meeting for the second time this season, as Wisconsin was held to 49 points and zero free-throw attempts in a 58-49 loss in Columbus on Jan. 29. That was OSU's third win in the past four meetings with the Badgers, but these teams have split the past 16 games SU (8-8 each), and 20 games ATS (10-10 each).

Ohio State's offense is solid, averaging 71.6 PPG on 46.0% from the field (59th in nation) and 36.9% from three-point range. The Buckeyes also help themselves by committing just 11.1 TOPG (18th fewest in D-I). But where OSU really shines is on the defensive end, allowing just 59.1 PPG on 39.1% FG. PF Deshaun Thomas leads the Big Ten with 20.2 PPG thanks to a 46% FG clip (39% threes) and 83% from the free-throw line. He dominated the Badgers when they met last month, finishing with 25 points on 10-of-17 FG. Junior SG Lenzelle Smith, Jr. (10.3 PPG, 5.3 RPG) scored just five points that day, but has 12.3 PPG in the four games since. Junior PG Aaron Craft (9.5 PPG, 4.5 APG, 3.8 RPG, 2.0 SPG) has a strong 2.35 Ast/TO ratio this season and has scored at least 11 points in four of his past five games. That surge started with a 13-point game versus Wisconsin, when the 6-foot-2 player grabbed seven rebounds to make up for his four turnovers and just two assists. Backup PG Shannon Scott (4.8 PPG, 4.0 APG, 1.6 SPG) has been outstanding in taking care of the basketball, as his 3.28 Ast/TO shows. He had seven rebounds and five assists in Thursday's 69-59 win over Northwestern. Sophomore C Amir Williams (4.5 PPG, 4.2 RPG) has been quite a presence in the paint with a team-best 1.6 BPG for the season. In the past four games, he has 6.8 PPG, 5.8 RPG and 2.0 BPG.

Wisconsin puts opponents to sleep on offense, scoring just 66.8 PPG (191st in nation) on 42.2% FG (226th in D-I), but it commits just 9.5 TOPG (2nd-fewest in nation). This pace is a big reason why the Badgers give up a mere 56.5 PPG (11th in nation) on 39.9% FG and 30.1% threes to opponents. C Jared Berggren leads the Badgers with 11.7 PPG and 1.9 BPG, while adding 6.9 RPG. But since his solid effort in Columbus last month (11 points, 3-of-5 threes, nine rebounds), Berggren has gone ice cold, making just 1-of-10 threes to drop his season percentage to 28% from downtown. SF Ryan Evans (10.6 PPG, 7.8 RPG) was awful at Ohio State with two points on 1-of-10 FG, but has scored 11.8 PPG with 9.5 RPG in the four games since. SG Ben Brust (11.2 PPG, 5.3 RPG) was the hero in last Saturday's upset win over then-No. 3 Michigan, hitting a near-halfcourt shot to tie the score at the end of regulation, then hitting a big three in overtime as part of a 14-point night in the 65-62 win. But he cooled off considerably in Thursday's loss by making just 3-of-10 threes. Still, Brust has averaged 17.3 PPG during his team's past four games. Freshman SF Sam Dekker (9.0 PPG, 3.5 RPG) played very well on Thursday, scoring a game-high 14 points and grabbing four rebounds in 22 minutes of action.

Miami Hurricanes vs. Clemson Tigers
The Miami Hurricanes (20-3, 15-4-1 ATS) have become a very public team
thanks to some recent nationally televised high profile wins, and they now visit
the Clemson Tigers (13-11, 12-8 ATS) at Littlejohn Coliseum in Clemson, SC
Sunday at 6:00 ET on ESPNU. The Hurricanes are now up to third on the AP
poll and they are ninth overall on the Pomeroy Ratings, but while they may be
overvalued as decided road favorites in this spot, the total on this game may
be deflated as the Miami offense has gotten better as the season as gone on
and the oddsmakers have not been as quick to increase the Hurricanes'
totals as they have to start padding their spreads a tad. The last five Miami
games have averaged a combined 141.2 points, which should shatter the projected
total here, which figures to be in the low 120s.

The Miami defense has been carrying the Canes for most of the season, and
it has carried them very well indeed as Miami is on a 12-game winning streak.
However, the offense erupted in a 90-63 blowout of Duke on January 23rd,
and it has been very good ever since as that contest began a current streak of
seven straight games of scoring at least 71 points, with Miami averaging
78.0 over those contests. This recent surge now has the Hurricanes up to 24th
in the country in offensive efficiency and 33rd in effective field goal
percentage, nicely complimenting their defense which ranks sixth in efficiency
and 18th in effective field goal percentage against. After the 'under' went
an unbelievable 11-1-1 in the first 13 Miami games that had posted totals
this season, it is the 'over' that is 4-1 in the last five games and the only
'under' in that stretch produced 122 points in a 72-50 rout of Boston
College, a total that might actually go 'over' the posted total of this game.

Now the 'under' is 11-8 overall in Clemson games this season, and all
Tigers' games have averaged 121.4 points, which is practically where this total
figures to be. However, two things favoring the 'over' in this spot are that
the Tigers have not faced many offenses that were as hot as Miami's is right
now, so you can probably add a couple of points to the overall average, and
also Clemson home games have averaged 125.2 points, which should be safely
above this total. And besides, if Miami continues its streak of 70-point
games, then the Tigers would only need to get into the 50's for this game to go
'over'. Well, one reason for Miami's offensive resurgence is that the Canes
are shooting a blistering 40.6 percent from beyond the three-point arc over
the last five games, and Clemson ranks a dismal 227th in the country in
three-point defense, which helps increase the chances of Miami extending its
70-point streak. These clubs have not met this season, but Miami won the only
meeting last year 76-73 with the teams blowing away the total of 127.

The 'over' is a perfect 5-0 the last five times these teams have met in
Clemson. The 'over' is also 5-1 in the Hurricanes' last six games vs. teams
with a winning straight up records, as well as an identical 5-1 in the Tigers'
last six games vs. winning teams.

Penguins PL -1.5 +200 *1 Unit*
We love the Penguins offense, and we plain just hate the Sabres. The Sabres are a bad hockey team, and the Penguins are back on a roll, winning their last 2 by 2 goals, and now 9 of their 10 wins by 2+ goals on the season. Add that the Penguins are 8-2 in their last 10 meetings and 8-3 in their last 11 in Buffalo (when Buffalo was a much better team), and we love the Penguins today.

Blackhawks PL -1.5 +230 *1 Unit*
The defending Stanley Cup Champions have looked anything but this season. Though they have pulled back-to-back wins, the last game was a struggle against the NHL worst Blue Jackets. Now they have to play the best team in hockey IN Chicago. We don't like their chances. Chicago has won 4 of 5, and have still not dropped a game in regulation, all 4 of those games Chicago won by 2+ goals as well.

Rangers PL -1.5 +190 *1 Unit*
Capitals/Rangers OVER 5.5 +125 *1 Unit*
We know the Capitals are finally winning, but look who they have played - Tampa and Florida twice - now that they have to play a real hockey team, and have to head into MSG, their bubble looks to burst today. The Rangers have taken 3 of 4 overall, and look to have finally gotten their mojo back, now they get to take it to the lowly Capitals. However, if the PL doesn't hit, it will be because Washington put up a few, we like putting these two plays together, let's try to get both!

Winnipeg ML +130 *1 Unit*
Boston have yet to win a game in Winnipeg - but they are massive favorites? Winnipeg is not a great hockey team, but they can win any game they play at home, and at +130 there is plenty of value here.

Scott “the Bulldog” Rickenbach NCAAB *10* Blow out Game of the Month Arizona vs Utah @ 3:00 et. The Wildcats are coming off two straight very disappointing losses where the team’s usually stingy defense gave up more than 70 points in back-to back games.Arizona head coach Sean Miller said after the loss to Colorado: “We've played against some of the best teams in this country and our defense has held up. Tonight, it didn't. ... From our standpoint, we have to get back when we play Utah." We should be able to take him at his words as Arizona has allowed an average of just 62.9 points to opponents this year en route to the #9 ranking in the nation. The Wildcats have been a successful 6-2 SU on the road this year and are 2-0ATS as a favourite of 6.5-9 points. Utah is coming off a nice win over Arizona State but is still just 3-9 SU in conference play this year. The staple of the Utes team is their stingy defense as well; allowing just 62 points per game. The problem for Utah is the team is only scoring 64.8 points per game and should have a hard time against a Wild Cats squad looking to tighten up its D for this game. Arizona is 3-1 ATS when facing a team with a losing record this year. The play is on Arizona, a 10* Blowout **Game of the Month. **

Scott “the Bulldog” Rickenbach NHL *10* OVER in New York Rangers vs Washington Capitals @ 6:05 et .The Capitals have finally got back on track after a tough start to the season thanks to boat load of goals. Washington has won three games in a row and has averaged five goals over this streak of games. Caps playmaker Nicklas Backstrom has started to get it going with three points in the last two games. The feeling around the Caps locker room is that the team has to win now or fall too far behind the pack "We had a talk and said the time is now," center Jay Beagle said. "We have to start winning and stringing a streak of wins together to try and climb." Note that three of the last four games involving the Capitals finished OVER the total line. The Capitals are still having a trouble finding consistent goaltending with their two youngsters in Holtby and Neuvirth. Washington has allowed 3.5 goals per game this year. The Rangers meanwhile have seen the OVER total hit in three straight games, averaging four goals themselves over that span. With both teams having no trouble lighting the lamp of late, the play is on the OVER, a *10* Texas *Top Total* play.

BIG AL's 100% PERFECT NCAA HOOPS ROADKILL WINNER!

Game Date/Time: 2/17/13 1:00 pm
Our Selection: Wisconsin Opponent: Ohio St. Line: -4 Rating: Opinion
Analysis: At 1 pm, our selection is on the Wisconsin Badgers minus the points over Ohio St., as the Buckeyes fall into a negative 39-97 ATS system of mine which fades certain teams off a win, that are playing an opponent with same-season revenge. Earlier this season, Wisky went into Columbus, and came out on the short end of the stick. But look for the Badgers to turn the tables on Ohio State in Madison this afternoon. Wisconsin is a super 21-7 ATS at home off a pointspread win when playing with same season revenge. And the Buckeyes are a poor 33-43 ATS off a win when playing a foe with revenge from an earlier loss in the season. In this series, the revenging team is 7-0 ATS the last 7, and 25-8 ATS since 1991. Lay the points with Wisconsin.
BIG AL's SLAPSHOT CLUB: NHL TOTALS WINNER; 24-13!

Game Date/Time: 2/17/13 9:05 pm
Our Selection: Blues/Canucks 'under' Line: 5.5 Rating: 3*
Analysis: At 9:05 pm, our selection is on the St. Louis Blues and Vancouver Canucks 'under' the total. Last season the Blues had by far the best defense in the NHL, being the only team in the league to allow an average of less than two goals per game, and although this season, the goals-against number is much different, this is still a team that prides itself on defense, especially when it plays Vancouver. This season, it seems like the Canucks have assumed that mantle as Vancouver has allowed a league-low 23 goals in its first 12 contests, or an average of just 1.92 per game. Last season, these two clubs played four times, and there was a total of 15 goals scored (an average of less than four per game) and you can expect more of that tonight. Once again, Vancouver's All Star net-minder, Roberto Luongo is proving to be one of the best goalies in the game in recent memory. So far, the Canucks big man between the pipes is leading the league with a 1.45 Goals-against average and is second with a .943 saves percentage. The under is 8-2-2 in Vancouver's last 12 overall and 10-2-4 in the last 16 meetings of these two. Take the 'under.'

double-dime bet
825 Southern California 7.0 (-110) 5Dimes vs 826 California
Analysis: I'm taking the points with USC on Sunday night. The Trojans have covered five straight in Berkeley and I expect another tonight. This is a much different looking USC team than the one Cal beat in Los Angeles on January 5. Interim Coach Bob Cantu has loosened the reigns on USC's athletes since the firing of the micro-manging Kevin O'Neill. The Trojans were not coming anywhere close to their potential under their former coach, with several players sitting the bench rather than getting the playing time they deserved, while one or two others, including J.T. Terrell were always threatened with "pine time" if they made too many mistakes. The Cantu version will play at a quicker tempo. They will attack the basket without fear of being yanked off the court. The players have responded with a four-game winning streak. In fact, they're a grand total of just seven points away from a 7-1 SU record under Cantu. Mike Montgomery's Bears are playing solid basketball, also. But the Trojans have the athletes to give Cal fits - and I belie„ve they will. Cal is off back-to-back wins over UCLA and Arizona, but because of those wins, they have been installed too big of a favorite according to my power ratings. The Bears are 1-7 ATS at home against teams with a losing road record. Meanwhile, USC is on a 3-0-1 ATS run overall, and again, they're on a 5-0 ATS run in Berkeley (15-1-1 ATS combined spots). I'm grabbing the points with USC on Sunday night. Thanks! GL! Scott Spreitzer.

double-dime bet
63 STL / 64 VAN UNDER 5.5 5Dimes
Analysis: I'm playing the Blues & Canucks to finish Under the total on Sunday night. Roberto Luongo is expected to be between the pi„pes for Vancouver tonight and he has been nothing short of a granite wall posting a 1.45 GAA and a .943 save percentage, and he's allowed a grand total of just 4 goals in his last 4 starts. These teams have combined for 5 goals or less in each of their last 9 meetings, averaging just 4.33 goals per game and they are 10-2-4 to the Under in their last 16 meetings, overall. The Blues scored 5 goals in a win over Calgary last time on ice, but they're 23-9-5 to the Under after scoring at least 5 goals in their previous game. Now they go from facing the league's 28th-ranked team in goals allowed per game to the stone-wall that is Luongo. The Canucks are on a 4-0 Under run against teams that scored at least 5 goals in their previous game, so they're used to shutting down hot attacks. They're 8-2-2 to the Under in their last 12 overall, and 17-5-4 Under when playing on one day of rest. More of the same. I'm playing the Under between the Blues & Canucks on Sunday night. Thanks! GL! CALIFORNIA -7 over Southern Cal

Both teams have identical 7-5 conference records so it might make these points being offered look rather appealing. Not so, as identical in talent they are not. The Trojans are imposters. Their 7-5 record is the result of them beating every team below them in the standings. USC has played five ranked teams this season and were defeated by all of them. Its best win this year came against UCLA in OT by four points. This visitor doesn’t excel in any area and we can’t even say they’re good in any one area. They’re a pedestrian team with an unimpressive résumé.

The Golden Bears résumé is much more impressive than USC’s. They’ve won four of their past five games with three of those victories occurring against the top three clubs in the PAC-12. California defeated #10 Oregon by 4, they went into #7 Arizona and won by eight and capped it off with a 13-point win over UCLA. Suddenly, they’re a bubble team and if they run the table, the committee has to consider them for an at-large bid. The Bears are also a threat for an automatic bid should they win the conference tournament. The Golden Bears went into Southern Cal on January 5 and defeated the Trojans by eight points. The Bears were not in top form at that time but they are now. With the stakes higher and Cal on a roll, they should have little trouble disposing of this inferior opponent.

ILLINOIS STATE -2 over Wichita State

We’ve previously talked about the Redbirds of Illinois State being one of the most undervalued squads in the country. Even with a mediocre 7-7 conference mark and 16-10 overall record, that still holds true. The Redbirds are now a small home favorite over Missouri Valley leader Wichita State, a team that defeated ISU back on January 16 by 12 points to put the Redbirds in a 0-6 hole in its first six MVC games.

What a difference a month can make. The Redbirds now sit at 6-7 in Valley play. One of their recent wins came at #16 Creighton as an eight-point dog. Over their past seven games, the Redbirds are scoring more points per possession than any team in Division I basketball. Jackie Carmichael and Tyler Brown are thriving as an inside-outside combination, one that is proving very challenging for opposing defenses to slow down. Out of 347 Division I schools, the Redbirds rank 24th in the nation in points scored, 25th in assists per games and 39th in FG percentage. Illinois State’s only chance of reaching the NCAA tournament consists of winning the Missouri Valley tournament (held annually in St. Louis). That's going to be a tall order but they’re playing the best basketball of any Valley team right now and this bargain price appears to be unaware of that.

Indian Cowboy's Picks For College Basketball

We hit the 6* Selection yesterday but fell short in the secondary plays. We will not be afraid to step-out going forward but will be likely even more selective with out card. Don't be surprised if we do not have more than 3 selections going forward on any given day. I apologize for the last few days and we will climb back with the 2+ months remaining given the rest of the regular season, the conference tournaments and the post-season tournaments remaining:

I will have your College Basketball selections by 11:45am est.

4-Unit Play. #814. Take Iowa -1 over Minnesota (Sunday @ 2pm est).

4-Unit Play. #810. Take Cleveland State -7 over Wisconsin-Milwaukee (Sunday @ 2pm est).

4-Unit Play. #831. Take Marist +7.5 over Rider (Sunday @ 4pm est).

5* Ohio St + 4.5

Write up

CBB GAME OF MONTH - Lets get into it. We got Ohio St at Wisconsin. These teams met about a month ago and Ohio St won by 9. Wisconsin did not get 1 single free throw in the game. Thats a big deal. If your not getting a single free throw over an entire game, it means your trying to play outside because they know Ohio St Perimeter defense is not the best, but you live and die by the three. Wisconsin plays slow and that falls right into Ohio St hands because they would rather play half court basketball too and there one of best in nation at not turning ball over # 18th in Nation just 11.1 Turnovers per game. They also do have a strong defense which holds teams to just 59.1 pts and 39.1% from feild. Wisconsin struggles with good defensive teams. There offense is # 191 in nation as they average 66.8 pts a game. Ohio St doesent get blown out. They are 18-4 on season and look at these losses Lost at Duke by 5 pts, Lost at Michigan in Overtime by 2, Lost to Michigan St by 3. They also Beat Michigan. There worse losses were to Indiana and Illinois very early in season. This team is tough on offense and defense and you have them catching 4.5 pts? My True Line was Ohio St - 1.5. I actually made them a favorite based on all my numbers and info. Ohio St is Ranked # 13.. Wisc has faced alot of Top 25 teams too and look at these numbers.. Lost to Fla by 18, Lost to Creighton by 10, Lost to Indiana by 5, Lost to Michigan St by 2, Beat Minn by 1 and Lost to Minn by 5 and beat Michigan by 3 in overtime on a half court buzzer beater just to get to overtime. So when Teams have been Ranked this season there 3-6 Straight up and 2 of those wins were over Minn and Illinois and neither are currently ranked anymore. They havent beat a Single Top 25 team by more than 3 points besides Illinois and Illinois aint even ranked anymore! So why in the world would we think they all of a sudden blow out a top 15 team. Wisc FG % Ranks #224 in NATION!! Talk about an offense that isnt going to blow you out. I expect Ohio St to win this game, but definatley take the 4.5 pts thats 2 whole possesions and Wisc does play alot of tight games, but i just dont see them winning by more than 4 pts if they do win game. Our CBB GAME OF MONTH OHIO ST + 4.5!!

Indian Cowboy's Picks For NHL Hockey
4-Unit Play. #62 Take New York Rangers -155 vs. Washington (Sunday @ 6:05 pm est)
You have to be wondering if the combination of a new coach and system along with the shortened training camp and compressed 2013 schedule are going to be too much to overcome for Washington. The Capitals return to Madison Square Garden, New York, New York and another big question is can young Goalkeeper Braden Holtby pick up where he left off when bursting upon the scene in the playoffs last spring? The Rangers were knocked out of the Stanly Cup Playoffs by these Capitals in a very exciting second round series, (4 games -to- 3 games). New York HC John Tortorella's aggressive style relying on work ethic and defensemen joining the rush promotes offense. Tortorella has always done an exceptional job of getting the most out of his players. He demands accountability from his players, and as a result, the Rangers rarely get out-worked. The Rangers goaltender, Henrick Lundqvist, is this team's MVP and the Blueshirts' defense still remains as their calling card. The Rangers are (12-3) in their last (15) Sunday games and (17-5) in their last (22) games playing on (2) days of rest. The Capitals are (2-7) in their last (9) road games and we look for New York to send Washington a message that the ?Broadway Blueshirts? will be a tough out in this postseason.
