Bank shots: NBA betting news and notes

Each week, we look back on the NBA betting scene and give you the best –and worst – basketball bets, as well as some spots to keep an eye on with the upcoming schedule.

For the week of March 3-March 9.

Hottest ATS

Denver Nuggets (4-0 SU, 4-0 ATS)

Denver continues to be a great bet (39-24-1 ATS) as well as a profitable over play (38-26 O/U). The Nuggets have won eight straight games, covering in seven of those contests. Denver visits Phoenix Monday before returning to Pepsi Center for two tough games against the Knicks and Grizzlies.

Coldest ATS

Charlotte Bobcats (0-4 SU, 0-4 ATS)

Charlotte has dropped 10 straight games straight up and ATS, making it great fade material. The Bobcats host the Celtics Tuesday before heading to Toronto for a clash with the Raptors.

Best over play

Orlando Magic (1-3 SU, 3-1 over/under)

The Magic stayed true to their form as a good over play this past week. Orlando has played over the number in six of its last eight to improve its season O/U mark to a very profitable 34-25-4 for its over bettors. The Magic host Philadelphia and Los Angeles (Lakers) early this week before embarking on a four-game road trip.

Best under play

Minnesota Timberwolves (1-2 SU, 0-3 over/under)

The Timberwolves are devastated by injuries and had only nine healthy players on their roster this past week. Star F Kevin Love (hand) is targeting a mid-March return, but the T-Wolves could continue to struggle to score until he's healthy. Minnesota is averaging just 85.3 points per game over its last three games, nearly 10 points lower than its season average (94.7). The Timberwolves host Dallas Sunday and then San Antonio rolls into Minny on Tuesday.

Scouting the schedule:

-The Brooklyn Nets play nine of their next 11 games away from the Barclays Center. The Nets have been a good under play away from home, posting a 10-18-1 O/U mark.

-The Houston Rockets begin a season-long seven-game homestand Wednesday when the Phoenix Suns visit. The Rockets are 18-11 O/U at the Toyota Center.

Tracking NBA season win totals at the three-quarter mark

Most NBA teams have played between 60 and 64 games, marking the unofficial three-quarter mark of the season.

Way back in October bettors placed their season win total wagers, so let’s check in and have a look at some teams that are approaching their established totals and a few that don’t have a prayer of meeting bettors’ expectations.

Three teams that have exceeded or are close to reaching their season win totals

Houston Rockets

Season win total: 32
Current wins: 34
Games left: 18

James Harden has been the difference, much to the delight of bettors that wagered on Houston to win more than 32 games.

Golden State Warriors

Season win total: 36.5
Current wins: 35
Games left: 18

It would take an epic collapse for the Warriors not to pay off those who took the over.

Portland Trail Blazers

Season win total: 34
Current wins: 29
Games left: 21

The Blazers are currently a sub-.500 team, but not at the Rose Garden where they boast an impressive 20-10 record.

Three teams that should exceed their season win totals

Brooklyn Nets

Season win total: 45.5
Current wins: 37
Games left: 19

Deron Williams and Joe Johnson would both have to fall to season-ending injuries in order for the Nets not to win 46 games.

Los Angeles Clippers

Season win total: 50
Current wins: 44
Games left: 18

The Clippers didn’t lose a game in the month of December, much to the delight of bettors that predicted they would eclipse the 50-win mark.

San Antonio Spurs

Season win total: 56.5
Current wins: 48
Games left: 19

This team finds a way to win even when All-Stars Tim Duncan and Tony Parker aren’t in the lineup.

Three teams that don’t have a prayer of reaching their season win totals

Los Angeles Lakers

Season win total: 56.5
Current wins: 32
Games left: 19

The Lakers are improving as the season progresses, but it's mathematically impossible for them to meet the expectations of oddsmakers this season.

Minnesota Timberwolves

Season win total: 41
Current wins: 21
Games left: 23

The chances of this team being .500 were shot down when star forward Kevin Love fell to injury.

Philadelphia 76ers

Season win total: 46.5
Current wins: 23
Games left: 21

The Sixers have only one win in their last 12 games. Hopefully you took the under.

Thunder at Spurs: What bettors need to know

Oklahoma City Thunder at San Antonio Spurs (-2.5, 208)

The battle for the top spot in the Western Conference takes center stage Monday night when streaking Oklahoma City invades San Antonio. The Thunder ran their winning streak to five with a 91-79 win over Boston on Sunday, pulling to within one game of the idle Spurs. Kevin Durant had 23 points and 11 rebounds as Oklahoma City improved to 28-4 at home. The Thunder won despite producing their lowest scoring output in nearly two months.

The Spurs were streaking as well as this much-anticipated matchup approached, but they laid an egg Friday against Portland. The 136-106 setback was the second-worst ever for San Antonio at home and the 136 points were the most all-time by a Spurs opponent at the AT&T Center. It was San Antonio's first loss in three games since losing All-Star point guard Tony Parker to an ankle injury. Five players scored in double figures but the Trail Blazers, unlike the Celtics against Oklahoma City, had no problem putting the ball in the basket, shooting 61.6 percent from the floor.

TV: 8:30 p.m. ET, Fox Sports Oklahoma (Oklahoma City), Fox Sports Southwest (San Antonio), NBATV

ABOUT THE THUNDER (47-16): The league's top offense was limited Sunday but more than made up for it by clamping down on the other end. Oklahoma City held Boston to 25 percent shooting in the second half and without a field goal for nearly six minutes at one point down the stretch. The Thunder also forced 19 turnovers, which led to 19 points. Russell Westbrook chipped in 15 points but had a season-low two assists in the win. Serge Ibaka, who had seven points and seven rebounds, recorded 25 points and a season high-tying 17 rebounds in a 107-93 victory over the Spurs at home on Dec. 17.

ABOUT THE SPURS (48-15): San Antonio is 3-1 thus far on its five-game homestand. They won the first three by an average of 31.7 points before suffering the 30-point loss to Portland. Overall, the Spurs are 4-3 after a 16-1 stretch that had vaulted them past the Thunder. The embarrassing setback on Friday may serve as a wake-up call. "Obviously, we'll try and learn from it. There will be a bunch of film session involved with this one," said PF Tim Duncan, who led San Antonio with 18 points and eight boards.

TRENDS:

* Thunder are 5-1 ATS in their last six Monday games.
* Spurs are 5-1 ATS in their last six games vs. a team with a winning record.
* Thunder are 5-0-1 ATS in the last six meetings.
* Under is 9-1 in Spurs’ last 10 games playing on two days of rest.

BUZZER BEATERS:

1. Parker hit a buzzer-beater to give San Antonio an 86-84 win in the first meeting between the teams Nov. 1.

2. The Spurs have won the last five matchups with the Thunder at home.

3. The finale of the four-game season series is April 4 in Oklahoma City.

Pucking the trends: This week's best NHL bets

Every week, we update you on who's hot, who's not and situational betting spots in the National Hockey League.

For the week of March 3-March 9.

Hot team

Pittsburgh Penguins (3-0 SU)

The Penguins have won four straight after suffering back-to-back losses to close out February. Pittsburgh has tallied 20 goals during its current win streak, but has also allowed 17 markers in the process. The Penguins host the Islanders Sunday before Boston visits The Igloo.

Cold team

Philadelphia Flyers (0-3 SU)

The Flyers are being ripped by the media and their fans for their lackluster effort in Saturday’s 3-0 loss to the Bruins. Philadelphia is 0-9 when trailing after the first period and must find a way to bounce back in games moving forward if it hopes to make the playoffs. Buffalo visits the Wells Fargo Center Sunday before the Flyers play a home-and-home with the Devils.

Best over play

Toronto Maple Leafs (2-2 SU, 4-0 over/under)

The Maple Leafs have struggled to keep the puck out of their own net against the top teams in the East. Pittsburgh and Boston lit the lamp four times on Toronto last week and Montreal scored five times on Ben Scrivens the week prior. The Maple Leafs, who have played over the number in seven consecutive games, are second in the league in penalty minutes (415 PIM), giving their opposition plenty of power play time on a regular basis. Toronto visits Winnipeg Tuesday and then returns to the Air Canada Centre for a three-game homestand.

Best under play

Detroit Red Wings (2-2 SU, 0-4 over/under)

Goals are a dime a dozen right now in Detroit. The Red Wings have gone low in six consecutive games, scoring only eight goals during the under run. Detroit hosts Columbus Sunday before making a run to Canada to play the Flames, Oilers and Canucks.

Scouting the schedule:

-The New York Rangers play four tough road games in six days this week. The Rangers will visit Washington, Buffalo, Winnipeg and Pittsburgh on the trip. New York is 1-6-1 O/U away from MSG.

-The Nashville Predators hit the road for five road games in seven days beginning Tuesday in Dallas. The Predators are 4-7-1-1 away from home, playing under the total in nine of those 13 away games.

St. Mary's vs. Gonzaga: What bettors need to know

Gonzaga vs. Saint Mary’s (-5.5, 137.5)

Gonzaga and Saint Mary’s had to work harder than anticipated to reach the West Coast Conference tournament final for the fifth straight season Monday night in Las Vegas. The top-ranked Bulldogs weren’t able to put away ninth-seeded Loyola Marymount until midway through the second half of Saturday’s semifinal. The No. 23 Gaels needed overtime to beat sixth-seeded San Diego in the other semi.

Gonzaga won both previous meetings this season against Saint Mary's, a five-point victory Jan. 10 at Saint Mary’s and a 17-point win a month later in Spokane, Wash. The Bulldogs feature three players who made the all-WCC first team. Kelly Olynyk, a 7-foot junior center, averages a team-high 17.3 points. He’s backed by 6-8 senior forward Elias Harris (14.8) and 6-2 sophomore guard Kevin Pangos (11.8). Saint Mary’s is led by 6-4 senior point guard Matthew Dellavedova, the school’s all-time career scoring leader who averages 16.2 points and 6.4 assists.

TV: 9 p.m. ET, ESPN3.

ABOUT GONZAGA (30-2): Olynyk had a rare off night in the semifinals, scoring eight points on 3-for-10 shooting. He hasn’t been held to single digits in back-to-back games this season or shot under 55 percent from the floor in consecutive games. He scored 31 points when these teams first met and came back with 17 points in the second game. Saint Mary’s is very familiar with Olynyk, but it doesn’t mean the Gaels have anyone who can stop him. Brad Waldow, a 6-9 sophomore forward, will likely draw that assignment for Saint Mary’s.

ABOUT SAINT MARY’S (27-5): Waldow scored a career-high 23 points and matched his career best with 16 rebounds in the semifinal win against San Diego. He showed his toughness during the game when a front tooth was knocked out during the second half and he attempted to hand it off to coach Randy Bennett while continuing to run the floor. He eventually had to be taken out to stop the bleeding. The player who needs to step up for the Gaels is junior guard Stephen Holt, who was held to three points on 1-for-7 shooting against San Diego.

TRENDS:

* Bulldogs are 8-0 ATS in their last eight games following an ATS loss.

* Gaels are 8-3 ATS in their last 11 Monday games.

* Bulldogs are 3-0-1 ATS in their last four games vs. a team with a winning S.U. record.

TIP-INS:

1. Gonzaga has won 30 games for the first time in school history.

2. The Bulldogs have reached the title game 18 consecutive seasons.

3. With his next start, Dellavedova will break the school record for games started at 134. Omar Samhan set the current mark from 2006-10.

DAVE ESSLER

CBB Monday Cliff Notes

Central Michigan at Buffalo: I get from a stat standpoint why Buffalo is so heavily favored, and I get that Central is just super young. But this is a Buffalo team that turns the ball over almost as much as anyone in the nation, and aside from beating Akron have really just feasted on the bottom of the MAC this season. It's a sub-.500 team overall, for the season and in the conference, which certainly makes it hard to lay these points. The upside to perhaps taking the points is that although CMU is young, Kyle Randall, their do-all guy, is a Senior. Buffalo beat them badly early in the year, but for the last few weeks they've been in most of their games. What I do like about CMU is that although they're primarily an outside shooting team, they do get to the line a fair bit and shoot well over 70%. CMU doesn't turn the ball over, but I'm certainly not going to trust their pitiful defense on the road, yet, because as a matter of principle I won't lay chalk with a sub-.500 team that turns it over, home or not.

St. Mary's at Gonzaga: Clearly the uber-public Zags, for whom we are going to pay the price for playing. Gonzaga doesn't have any weaknesses, so we need not go there. For them it's simply a matter of is their eye on the bigger prize or do they really want to win the Conference Tournament as well. I suspect so, but clearly they've got the target on their back. St. Mary's only two Conference losses were to Gonzaga, and they were destroyed at home, so they DO have some motivation here. That could be why they struggled against San Diego, looking ahead to this game. Clearly opening at only -5 it seems they're begging for Gonzaga money early. St. Mary's has certainly got the experience, but not the length nor the balance. Their one weakness has been defending the three ball, but that's certainly not what Gonzaga really want to do offensively. I do love that St. Mary's is actually the better rebounding team, and that will certainly be the point of emphasis here as in that blowout loss at home they were seriously outrebounded. Although they contained Olynyk, they let Pangos go off, and they themselves hit 12-35 from deep. Last year, they beat Gonzaga in OT in this Tournament, so clearly that's got to be something Few uses as motivation, I would think. But, I guess if you want to give me a Top-25 (or so) team with points, I'd have to take them. The only thing stopping me at this point is that because they blew out LM, nobody for the Zags played a ton of minutes. That SHOULD mean fresher legs and perhaps better defense, so I do lean under in this one.

Miami OH at Bowling Green: The first thing that struck me was that Miami had played the toughest schedule in the MAC. But, Bowling Green played the second toughest. Miami did beat them earlier this season, and actually played them fairly tough at BG, so I would rule out taking the 3-13 team that aside from the Akron loss was actually in most of their games down the stretch. Apparently I wasn't the only one thinking this way, since the line opened at -8 at CRIS is fairly quickly is at -7. BGSU's two home losses were to Akron and Ohio. They (BGSU) may be a little more keen in this game because last year they lost at home in the first round to CMU, which was clearly an embarrassment. But, they are simply not the same team this season without Scott Thomas and Dee Brown. My issue here is that Miami lost Roberts, one of their best and only outside threats, to a season ending injury, as well as Drew McGhee, who although playing sparingly, was a big man. The issue with that, for me, is that BGSU score about 60% of their points inside. However, they don't get to the FT line that much, indicating softness, perhaps. The game will be played fairly slow, and although BGSU plays great team defense, they don't create a ton of turnovers, while Miami is almost the opposite. They gamble a fair bit and DO create turnovers, but have a terrible overall defense in Conference. We'll have to see what shakes out as far as line move confirmation, but it's already lost some. This is yet another case of me simply not laying three possessions with a sub-.500 team against a team that has nothing at all to lose. If BGSU weren't quite so experienced, I'd have already been all over Miami.

Northern Illinois at Eastern Michigan: I know Northern Illinois has a hard time scoring, but in a game that will be played at a snails' pace and perhaps not see 100 points, there is no chance of laying those points, I don't care how big or how experience Eastern Michigan is, or how young Northern Illinois is. They scored a mere 25 points when last these teams met, so there's certainly nowhere to go but up for them. They almost beat Ball State on the road Saturday, and gave Buffalo a game on the road, so I would contend it's EMU that might have more pressure here, and that's just not something I can back. EMU losing their final home game to Toledo fairly solidly just cannot be a good thing headed into this game, so it's the (gulp) Northern Illinois or nothing here.

Gaels were 12-35 from arc in last meeting, 11-23 inside arc. Pretty sure St Mary's is in NCAAs even if they lost. Both teams had Sunday off.
-- Davidson is 16-3 in last 19 SoCon tourney games, winning title four of last seven years; Wildcats beat Charleston twice this season, by 9-16, as Davidson shot 57/58% inside arc in those games. Cougars are 12-6 in last 18 tourney games, but haven't won event in over decade, losing in finals three of last six years, by 10-11-7 points. Davidson was down 13 with 15:00 to play yesterday; they had three guys play 32+ minutes, while Charleston had four guys play 32+- their bench played only 35:00.
-- Iona won last four games, scoring 84.5 ppg after odd 1-6 stretch where they lost all six games by 3 or less points, or in OT; Gaels had only one starter play less than 36 minutes Sunday- they beat Manhattan by 8 in first meeting, then lost rematch in double OT, despite Jaspers going 10 of 21 from foul line. Manhattan won eight of last ten games after starting season 6-15; they turn ball over 25.6% of time, 3rd-worst in country.

-- Buffalo is 6-2 in this round last nine years, Central Michigan 4-1 in its last six. Bulls lost four of last five games; they turned ball over 24.4% of time, in bottom 10 in country. Buffalo (-7.5) beat Chippewas 91-73 at home Jan 30, making 67% inside arc, turning ball over 19 times. Central lost 11 of last 13 games; six of their last eight games went over the total. Over is 5-0-1 in last six Buffalo games; Bulls covered once in their last four games as a favorite.
-- Northern Illinois lost its last ten games, scoring 48.9 ppg; eight of its last nine games stayed under total. Huskies lost to Eastern Michigan in both meetings this year, 42-25/53-41-- they were 6-50 from arc in those games, trailed first meeting 18-4 at half. NIU is 1-9 in this event last nine years, with four of last seven losses by 6 or less points. Eastern is 3-6 in its last nine games, allowing 50 or less points in its last four wins- they won four of last five games in this round of MAC tourney.
-- Miami lost its last nine games and 13 of last 14; they split pair with Bowling Green this year, winning 63-60 (-3) at home, losing 52-44 (+7) in rematch here 12 days ago. Redhawks are 5-3 vs spread as road dog in MAC play; they're 1-4 in this event last four years, Falcons 2-7 in last seven. Last four Miami games stayed under total. Bowling Green's last seven wins were all by 8+ points; they're 4-1 as MAC home favorites.

-- IPFW ran Oakland off floor 91-79 Sunday, shooting 63% from floor, 12-20 behind arc vs worst defensive team in country; Mastadons lost to South Dakota State twice this year, 83-57 (+12) on road, 80-74 at home (+7.5). Jackrabbits had yesterday off; they're just 4-3 last seven games, but they covered last four games as Summit favorite. IPFW won last six games, covered last eight- they scored 82.5 ppg in last four, but hard to tell if offense is better, since three of those four were vs Oakland.
-- North Dakota State trailed at half, beat UMKC by 11 Sunday, but had to play all five starters 32+ minutes; Bison lost twice to Western Illinois this year, 50-42/49-36 after losing to Leathernecks by 5 in LY's Summit tourney. WIU won its last three games by total of six points with star Parks hurt; their last four Summit tourney games were all decided by 5 or less points. Western had yesterday off. Bison were 5-33 from arc in the two losses to WIU this season.
-- Western Kentucky/FIU both pulled upsets last night, winner here is probably headed to Dayton next week. Home side won both series tilts this year; WKU (-4.5) won 79-68 in first meeting Dec 1, then lost 87-82 at FIU (-2.5) 13 nights ago. Hilltoppers won this tourney LY, winning four straight days by 5 or less points after going 7-9 in league- they were 10-10 this year. Price was only WKU guy to play more than 31 minutes Sunday. FIU beat top-seed MTSU for fifth win in last six games.

Game: Brooklyn at Philadelphia (7:00 PM Eastern)
Pick: Brooklyn -5.5 (-110)
Last season the Philadelphia 76ers were a playoff team. They thought they could live without Andre Iguodala, but they have now seen what an integral part of this team he was. The Sixers are just 1-11 in their last 12 games and lost yesterday at Orlando. They have taken on the look of a team that is just playing out the string. Brooklyn has begun a long needed run as they have taken their last three in resounding fashion. The Nets have won those last three by an average of 16.3 ppg and appear to be a team ready to go on a long run. They have played well on the road of late as they are 5-1 ATS in their last six. The Sixers have struggled mightily without rest, where they are a woeful 6-20 ATS in their last 26. Play this one on Brooklyn.

Indian Cowboy's Picks For College Basketball

4-Unit Play. #543. Take South Carolina State +13 over Morgan State (Monday @ 9pm est).

South Carolina State is a 6-23 team coached by Tim Carter. They are led by Chasen Campbell who is a junior and a slew of other upperclassman in Toombs, Hezekiah and Adams. Given that senior leadership is always important in tournament play, it is worthwhile to have that as they face a good Morgan State team. The last time these two teams hooked up, South Carolina State hung in there and lost by 16 points on the road. This is a team that comes off a win against Delaware State and they will use that as a catalyst as they move into the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Tournament. Tood Bozeman's Morgan State team comes into the tournament at 14-14 but on a slew of conference wins as they went from 3-5 in conference play to 10-6 currently. Having beat this team by 16 at home I suspect that in a more of a neutral atmosphere in a conference tournament, I like State to hang tough here against Morgan State. This is a good public fade on a small Monday College Card as well and on a total of 132 it is not a bad idea to grab the 13 points here. I like South Carolina State to hang tough here plus the points.

Indian Cowboy's Picks For NBA Basketball

6-Unit Play. #504. Take San Antonio Spurs -2 over OKC Thunder (Monday @ 8:35pm est).

It is always frightening to go against the Thunder. I get it. But, there are times when the price and time is right and today is probably one such time. The Spurs don't lose often and they lose even less when they come off a loss. Combine that with one of the ugliest losses of the year if not the entire last decade of Coach Pop if you will and that makes for a decent bounce-back here. The Spurs were manhandled by the Blazers (losing twice in a row to them now), by a score of 106-136. It was ugly to say the least. This is a big bounce-back game for this team but more importantly, its a big revenge game to boot. The Spurs lost to the Thunder if you remember 93-107 at home back on December. Combine that with Tony Parker still being out, look for this team to step-up around the fact that Parker will not be playing as I've always believed teams rally when their star or one of their star players go down as it relates to ATS. Put this loss in perspective. When the Spurs lost to Golden State 101-107 in overtime as a small favorite, they bounced-back to beat the Suns in the next game by 10 on the road. Then, the Suns had revenge and beat them on the road. Then the Spurs bounced-back and trucked the Kings 130-102 at home covering the 14.5 point spread. Now as they come off one of the worst losses of the year if not the worst, look for them to bounce-back against the Thunder who they have revenge against as well. I like the fact the public is on OKC here to a tune of 65% as this is a good public fade and with these factors weighing in, its not a bad opportunity for the Spurs to step-up here and pick up the win. The Thunder are 1-5 ATS in their last 6 road games when facing a team with a winning percentage of greater than 60% at home and the Spurs are 13-4-1 ATS when coming off a straight up loss of 10 points or more.

Oklahoma City Thunder vs. San Antonio Spurs There is a great matchup on NBA TV Monday night as the top seeds in the Western Conference, the San Antonio Spurs (48-15, 35-26-2 ATS), host the second seeded Oklahoma City Thunder (47-16, 38-23-2 ATS) at the AT&T Center in San Antonio, TX at 8:35 ET. This is a rematch of last season's Western Conference Finals won by the Thunder in six games, a series victory keyed by stealing one game here in this arena. The Spurs do appear to hold both a physical and a motivational edge here though. On the physical front, it sure looks like the schedule-makers did the Spurs a couple of huge favors here, as they have had two days off since last playing on Friday while this is Oklahoma City's fourth game in five days! As for the motivational aspect, the Spurs are coming off of their worst game of the season as they were blown out 136-106 by the sub-.500 Portland Trail Blazers here in their own building on Friday. Perhaps San Antonio got caught looking ahead to this game but whatever the reason, the defense just took the night off, allowing an inconsistent shooting team like Portland to shoot 53-for-86, 61.6 percent from the field for the game including 12-for 21, 57.1 percent for three-point land and also allowing 46 points in the fourth quarter! Keep in mind that was only the Spurs' fourth loss in the last 24 games and they are still 25-4 at home while winning by an average of +12.8 points, so it is probably safe to expect a strong bounce-back effort. San Antonio is ranked fourth in the league in scoring, second in field goal percentage and fourth in three-point shooting, but just as important to its success is a defense that is still ninth in points allowed, sixth in field goal percentage and second in three-point defense. You can bet that the Spurs received an earful from Coach Gregg Popovich after Friday's game, so look for more intensity on the defensive end here. Not only is this the Thunder's fourth game in five nights, but they had to travel after ever game as they were on the road at New York and Charlotte on Thursday and Friday and went home to Oklahoma City for an early 12:00 Noon local time tip on Sunday that actually felt like an 11:00 AM tip-off with it being the first day of Daylight Savings Time. The Thunder beat the Celtics 91-79, but they only led by three points entering the fourth quarter before pulling away late, so they were not able to sit their regulars down early. Busy playing and travel schedules aside, the Thunder have not really been that dominant on the road as of late, going just 8-7 straight up and 5-10 ATS in their last 15 road affairs. Furthermore, like most teams, they have not had much success here in San Antonio losing their last five regular season visits here. They also lost the first two games of the Western Finals in the Lone Star State although they did win the one game that meant the most in Game 5. While this is a big game by regular season standards, it does not nearly compare to the post season and as mentioned, there are a couple of other things working against the Thunder here besides the difficult venue. The Spurs are 39-17-3 ATS in their last 59 home games and 12-3 ATS in their last 15 games when playing on at least two days rest.

Pistons plus 9 1/2 at Jazz

The Jazz aren't playing well enough to lay this many points even to a weak foe such as the Pistons. Utah is 1-7 in its last eight games. The Jazz just finished an 0-4 road trip that ended at New York this past Saturday. This is their first home game in 10 days so their minds might be distracted.

This marks Utah's third game in four days and fourth in six days. The Jazz have been a strong home team, but are just 3-3 during their past six at EnergySolutions Arena. Utah also might be missing underrated Paul Millsap, who missed the Knicks' game this past Saturday with a sore knee. He's a game-time decision.

The Pistons shouldn't lack for motivation. They were embarrassed, 129-97, by the Clippers last night in Los Angeles. Both Greg Monroe and Jose Calderon expressed frustration with the loss with Monroe saying his team played with no effort. That's a strong criticism that should light a fire. The Pistons also have revenge for blowing a 15-point lead in a 90-87 home loss to Utah.

Detroit is 3-3 in its last six road matchups defeating Milwaukee, Charlotte and much-improved Washington. The Pistons, when motivated and catching a less-than-elite foe in a slump and in an unfavorable situational spot, can hold its own. Note, too, that the Jazz are just 1-6 ATS the past seven times when facing an opponent with a winning percentage below .400.

20* Thunder/Spurs NBA TV No-Brainer on UNDER 208.5

The Oklahoma City Thunder and San Antonio Spurs will take part in a defensive battle tonight as they meet for a third time this season. With Tony Parker out for the Spurs, their offense simply isn't going to be as dynamic as it was before he got hurt.

This has been a very low-scoring series in recent meetings. Oklahoma City and San Antonio have combined for 206 or fewer points in each of their last three meetings, including 200 and 170 points in their two meetings this season. With the Thunder tired and playing their 4th game in 5 days, and the Spurs without Parker, I look for the final combined score of this one to easily stay under 208 with room to spare.

This play falls into a system that is 42-11 (79.2%) to the UNDER over the last 5 seasons. It tells us to bet the UNDER on home teams where the total is 200 to 209.5 (SAN ANTONIO) - after going over the total by 42 or more points total in their last five games, with a winning record on the season playing another winning team.

San Antonio is 10-1 to the UNDER in home games after scoring 105 points or more this season. I'm seeing an average of 187.3 points/game in this spot for the Spurs and their opponents. The UNDER is 5-0 in Thunder last 5 games following a SU win of more than 10 points. The UNDER is 5-0 in Spurs last 5 home games vs. a team with a winning road record. The UNDER is 9-1 in Spurs last 10 games playing on 2 days rest. These four trends combine for a 29-2 system backing the UNDER tonight. Bet the UNDER in this game Monday.

15* NBA Monday Total ANNIHILATOR on Nuggets/Suns OVER 209.5

I look for an absolute shootout tonight in Phoenix as the Suns host the high-scoring Denver Nuggets. Denver is one of the top scoring teams in the league at 105.8 points/game. However, the Nuggets give up 104.3 points/game defensively, so I look for the Suns to put up a big number as well.

Denver's biggest reason for being so efficient offensively is its ability to get in the paint at will. It is one of the top scoring teams in the league in the paint. That's a big factor here considering the Suns will be playing without two of their best post players in Marcin Gortat and Jermaine O'Neal. The Nuggets have scored 104 or more points in nine straight games.

Phoenix has been forced to play small ball, which hurts its defense, but helps its offense. That was evident in a 107-105 home victory over the Houston Rockets last time out on Saturday, and a 112-121 loss at Sacramento the night before on Friday.

This has already been a high-scoring series in recent meetings, and I look for that to be the case again tonight. Phoenix beat Denver 110-100 at home in their first meeting of the season on November 12th for 210 combined points. Denver beat Phoenix 118-107 on the road in their final meeting of last season for 225 combined points.

Denver is 13-2 to the OVER in road games after 1 or more consecutive unders this season. The Nuggets are 9-1 to the OVER in road games revenging a road loss vs opponent over the last 2 seasons. The OVER is 19-7 in Nuggets last 26 games overall. The OVER is 21-8 in Nuggets last 29 road games. Take the OVER in this game Monday.

15* Knicks/Warriors NBA Late-Night BAILOUT on Golden State -3

The Golden State Warriors have certainly been struggling of late. They have lost 12 of their last 17 games overall to fall to 35-29 on the season after a torrid start. However, their recent struggles are the reason I really believe this team is way undervalued right now as only a 3-point home favorite over New York.

Not only will the Warriors be motivated to get back on track, they'll also want payback from a 105-109 loss at New York on February 27th in their first meeting of the season just two weeks ago. I like their chances of getting revenge considering the Knicks have played their last three games without Carmelo Anthony (knee), and he's questionable to return tonight.

Also, Amare Stoudemire (knee) has been pronounced out for the next 4-6 weeks. Golden State is 20-9 at home this season, so it certainly has a solid home-court advantage this year. It won its last home meeting with New York by a final of 92-78.

The Knicks are 3-8-2 ATS in their last 13 road games vs. a team with a winning home record. The Warriors are 5-1-1 ATS in their last 7 home games vs. a team with a winning road record. Golden State is 6-1 ATS in its last 7 meetings with New York. Roll with the Warriors Monday.
