I like Rampage, Chandler, Pat curran and I have to watch some tape on Akop Stepanyan. Hes a Russian national kickboxing and tae kwon do champion. His opponent is mike richman. Richman has a much better record in bellator but I think this will play out on the feet where stepanyan will have the edge.

Tito out with neck fracture: http://www.mmajunkie.com/news/2013/10/tito-ortiz-out-with-neck-fracture-bellator-106-moves-from-ppv-to-spike-tv

Lame, but I was way more interested in Chandler / Alvarez anyway.

I think Pat curran will handle Daniel Strauss. As far as I know Curran as legit takedown defense and should be the superior striker.

I don't know much about the rest of the card with the exception of one other fight. Akop Stepanyan vs Mike Richman. I watched 4 of mike richmans fights today and 2 of stepanyans fights. I also saw stepanyans fights against Marlon Sandro. I will break them down for everyone.

Akop vs Marlon Sandro: Basically Sandro kept pushing Akop up against the fence. Akop would have gotten the decision if it weren't for a point deduction he incurred for grabbing the fence. I had money on Sandro and I was shitting my pants during the fight because Akop was doing a lot of spinning back kicks. Akop is a taekwando and kickboxing champ.

Akop vs Chris Saunders: Pretty much the whole fight was on the feet. Saunders tried and failed to take him down a couple of times. Akop outstruck Saunders for the entire fight right up until the end when he knocked Saunders out. Spinning back kick plus punches.

Akop vs Wilcox: Akop dominated Wilcox for the first round with his striking plus takedown defense. In the second round Wilcox got a takedown and Akop tried to stand and gave up his back. Wilcox choked him out pretty quickly.

Richamn vs Shahbulat Shamhalaev: Shabulat is a really good striker. A muay thai champion. Basically the traded shots for a two minutes with Shabulat getting the better of the exchanges and then Richman got knocked out.

Richamn vs Mitch Jackson: Richman beat the crap outta Jackson from beginning to end of the first round.

Richamn vs Alexandre Bezerra: Richman was outgrappled for the entire first round, back taken and all. Second round all richman outstriking Bezerra. Third round a combination of the first two rounds. Richman was the better striker and he tagged Bezerra multiple times.

Richman vs Frodo Khasbulaev: Three round war with Frodo attacking and looking like a wild caveman. Richman spent most of the time countering. Close fight but Frodo won it.

My take on Richman is he has a lot of power standing and pretty good technique. He didn't really use any offensive wrestling in any of the fights that I saw. His defensive wrestling is pretty good.

Akop has really good standup. Pretty solid takedown defense and what I think is a pretty shitty Jiu jitsu game.

I don't see Richman taking Akop down. Wilcox had enough trouble for five minutes and he is a really big wrestler. I think theres a chance Richman can knock out Akop but I only see it happening if Akop is really sloppy or Richman just gets lucky. I think Akop is the far superior striker and should win this one.

I am hoping Akop comes out as the dog and I think he might. Richman is 4 and 2 in bellator with 3 knock out wins. Akop is 1 and 3 with two stoppage losses. Probably going to put a decent amount on Akop if he comes in +175 or so. Akop has been getting beaten by grapplers and Richman is a striker.

Ill be betting Straus and Akop. Currans tdd isn't that good imo. and akop should be the better striker. Ill go more in depth later.

yeah akops line went to shit. so did Yoel romeros. So mad at my self for not hitting romero at -110. I actually thought he would be the dog. I thought akop would be the dog.

Why don't you think Currans TDD is any good?

edman5555
10-29-2013, 03:11 PM
It looks to me like Curran stuffed Eddie Alvarez, Joe warren and Roger Huerta pretty well. His striking should be a lot better than Strauss's as well.

Vandelay
10-29-2013, 05:39 PM
Mainly from his fight with warren. He was taken down repeatedly in the fight despite no stand up threat posed from Warren. I also believe Strauss is pretty good everywhere and can grind away a decision. I give him edge in cardio and wrestling. And if he can control Curran he has a great shot. He is also very durable. So plus 250 is well worth it. Im going to see if it gets closer to 300 though.

edman5555
10-29-2013, 06:16 PM
Everytime warren got him down or against the fence he got right back up. As for his cardio im not so sure. I watched some fight tape on him and it looked like he slowed in round three. I could be misremembering tha though. You should also consider he hasnt fought in a year. Lastly, joe warren may be smaller but he is a much better wrestler that straus. Alvarez also had trouble wrestling curran.

edman5555

Frankly i wouldnt bet strauss. I see him losing pretty decisively.

Vandelay

Oh I consider Curran to be a top 3 FW. I just dont think he has proven himself completely against wrestlers. I do agree his scrambling ability is pretty good. Ill have to rewatch some of his fights.

Fun with judging, Bellator 106 edition:

2 of 3 judges gave Curran the first round over Straus.

Every judge gave round 2 to Alvarez. The one who scored the fight for Chandler did so because he gave him the third round.

what a stupid gameplan from Chandler .... He came out swinging for the fences in the first one and couldn't manage to touch Alvarez but kept swinging for the fences everytime anyway ... Then he slowed down badly later in the fight and Alvarez managed to take over. Chandler is the better fighter but just fought dumb yesterday

Vandelay
11-03-2013, 01:28 PM
Eh I wouldnt say it was stupid. He definitely gassed though. He tried to take down Alvarez, a lot. He just couldnt do it consistently. He actually should have stuck with his striking more. Just been more judicious with it instead of going all out all the time.

Luke

I wouldnt say Chandler is the better fighter quite yet. Alvarez tore his face apart with his striking and damn near KO'd him in the first fight. I'd say they are pretty even right now with Alvarez being the better striker and Chandler the better wrestler. If Alvarez can polish up his TDD a it more, he can probably win the third fight. Also, I'd take either guy over anyone in the UFC 155 pound division
