USC at Oregon State: What bettors need to know

USC Trojans at Oregon State Beavers (-4, 52.5)

USC’s stellar defense figures to be tested Friday against Oregon State at Reser Stadium, where the Trojans haven’t won since 2004. The Trojans held Utah to 201 total yards in a 19-3 victory last week, but weren’t facing Beavers quarterback Sean Mannion, who leads the nation in passing yards and touchdown passes. USC has been ravaged by injuries, especially to its offensive line and receiving corps, and All-American receiver Marqise Lee (knee) is expected to miss at least one more week.

Oregon State bounced back from its season-opening loss to FCS team Eastern Washington with six straight wins before yielding eight sacks in a 20-12 loss to Stanford last week. “Even though we lost, we took a top 10 team to the end,” Beavers coach Mike Riley said. “We saw a lot of good stuff out there and some stuff we have to correct. We’ll use that going forward." USC leads the all-time series 59-11-4, but Oregon State has won three of the past five meetings.

TV: 9 p.m. ET, ESPN2.

LINE: The Beavers opened -4.5 and are now -4. The total opened at 52.5.

WEATHER: Temperatures will be in the mid-50s. The threat of rain will increase as the game progresses.

ABOUT USC (5-3, 2-2 Pac-12): The Trojans dropped to 116th in the country on third-down conversions with a 27.6-percent success rate after going 3-for-15 against Utah. Andre Heidari kicked four field goals against the Utes to lead USC’s offense, which needs to see continued growth from sophomore quarterback Cody Kessler. The injury bug has impacted the entire roster, but defensive end Leonard Williams has been a constant force while leading the Trojans in tackles (54), tackles for loss (11) and sacks (five).

ABOUT OREGON STATE (6-2, 4-1): After struggling against Stanford, the Beavers' offensive line squares off against a USC squad that leads the Pac-12 in total defense and forced four Utah turnovers last week. Brandin Cooks leads the nation in receiving yards, receptions and receiving TDs, but the Beavers rank 122nd among 123 FBS teams in rushing at 66.6 yards per game. The Beavers are coming off their best defensive game of the season, and are ranked tied for fifth nationally in turnover margin and tied for sixth in interceptions.

TRENDS:

* Home team is 7-1 ATS in their last eight meetings.
* Trojans are 1-5 ATS in their last six meetings.
* Trojans are 1-10 ATS in their last 11 road games.
* Over is 9-1 in Beavers last 10 vs. a team with a winning record.

EXTRA POINTS:

1. USC has allowed a total of 17 points in the first quarter of its first eight games.

2. Oregon State is 56-5 since the start of the 2004 season when leading after three quarters.

3. USC has a 10-3 record in games played Nov. 1, most recently a 56-0 victory over Washington in 2008.

CFL Friday: What bettors need to know

Montreal Alouettes at Toronto Argonauts (-3, 53)

Their playoff positions in the East Division are already set, but the Toronto Argonauts and the Montreal Alouettes still have much to play for Friday night. The Argonauts need a victory to finish the regular season with a winning record at home, while the Alouettes can earn a split in the season series with their second win in Toronto. Montreal, which won 20-9 in its last visit, is coming off a heartbreaking road loss to the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and could use a victory to end its tumultuous season that saw its coach fired and star quarterback lost for the season.

The Argonauts offense is healthy again now that quarterback Ricky Ray and running back Chad Kackert have returned. Ray threw for a career-high 505 yards last week and has the CFL record for completion percentage (77.2), but Toronto will rest the veteran Friday with the division already clinched. Backup quarterback Zach Collaros will need to be smart against an Alouettes' defense that leads the league in interceptions with 24 and allows the fewest passing yards per game in the East Division by a wide margin.

TV: 7 p.m. ET, TSN

ABOUT THE ALOUETTES (7-10): Slotback S.J. Green made a spectacular one-handed catch against Hamilton last week, putting an exclamation mark on a season that already includes career-highs in receiving yards (1,183) and touchdown catches (13). Green and Duron Carter provide great targets for new quarterback Troy Smith, who has taken over the starting job with his strong throwing arm that has created touchdown passes of more than 60 yards in each of his first two starts. Smith does have accuracy issues - completing 45-of-86 passes - and tends to slow down in the second half, but that should not overshadow the promising start to what could be a long CFL career.

ABOUT THE ARGONAUTS (11-6): Slotback Chad Owens is 21 receiving yards away from reaching 1,000 for the second straight season, while leading the league with 2,298 total combined yards despite missing time due to injuries. Toronto signed linebacker Aaron Maybin - a former first-round pick of the NFL’s Buffalo Bills in 2009 - to bolster its defense, which is second-worst in the league with 38 sacks. Ray was named offensive player of the week for his performance against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, which included a team-record 21 consecutive completions.

TRENDS:

* Under is 7-1 in the last eight meetings.
* Alouettes are 19-7 ATS in their last 26 meetings in Toronto.
* Alouettes are 5-1 ATS in their last six road games.
* Argonauts are 1-4 ATS in their last five home games.

EXTRA POINTS:

1. Alouettes LB Chip Cox and Argonauts LB Robert McCune are the top two tacklers in the league. Cox has 109 tackles, while McCune has 99.

2. Montreal allows 253.8 passing yards per game; Toronto allows a league-worst 304.2.

3. The Alouettes will head back to Guelph, Ont., to face Hamilton in the East Semifinal on Nov. 10, with Toronto awaiting the winner at home a week later.

Calgary Stampeders at BC Lions (Pick, 52.5)

The BC Lions can’t advance in the West Division standings, but they have pride to play for when they finish their regular season at home against the division-leading Calgary Stampeders on Friday. The Lions are 7-1 at home and can tie Calgary for the best home record in the league with a victory, while the Stampeders are looking for their sixth straight win. Quarterback Kevin Glenn started Calgary’s last game, but Drew Tate finished it and looks to have regained his spot atop the depth chart.

Quarterback Buck Pierce provided the spark that snapped the Lions out of their three-game losing streak last week, tossing three touchdown passes against the Edmonton Eskimos in his first real action with BC since being traded. With Travis Lulay still nursing a shoulder injury and backup Thomas DeMarco struggling, the Lions will need Pierce’s veteran leadership if they hope to make a dent in the playoffs. A strong performance against the Stampeders, who have one of the top defenses in the league, would go a long way to giving BC some confidence heading into the postseason.

TV: 10 p.m. ET, TSN

ABOUT THE STAMPEDERS (14-3): Defensive lineman Charleston Hughes and running back Jon Cornish were both named players of the week. Hughes received defensive honours for his three-sack performance, which vaulted him into the league lead with 18 - one shy of the team record - while Cornish was named Canadian player of the week for the seventh time in 2013 after adding to his league-leading rushing yards total of 1,799. Slotback Marquay McDaniel reached 1,000 receiving yards for the first time in his fifth CFL season and has a career-high eight touchdown catches to go with one touchdown run.

ABOUT THE LIONS (10-7): Pierce is 17-for-27 since arriving back in BC and has targets such as slotback Nick Moore, who reached 1,000 receiving yards for the first time and has replaced Geroy Simon as the Lions’ top option in the air. Linebacker Adam Bighill has had another stellar season with a team-leading 89 tackles and eight sacks despite missing time early on due to injuries. Cornerback Cord Parks has six interceptions - one behind league-leader Geoff Tisdale of Montreal.

TRENDS:

* Over is 4-1 in the last five meetings.
* Stampeders are 9-2 ATS in their last 11 meetings in BC.
* Over is 7-1 in Lions last eight Friday games.
* Stampeders are 4-0 ATS in their last four road games.

EXTRA POINTS:

1. Calgary leads the league with 61 sacks. The Stampeders and Lions are two of three teams to limit their opponents to fewer than 100 rushing yards per contest.

2. BC is second-last in the league in passing yards with 4,217.

3. Calgary is 7-2 against West Division foes, while the Lions are 5-4.

Oregon State hosts USC Friday night
by Freddy Wander

Kickoff: Friday, 9:00 p.m. ET
Line: Oregon State -5, Total: 53.5

USC looks to go 3-1 under its new coach Ed Orgeron, but it won't be easy to win on the road against an Oregon State team with the top-ranked passing offense in the nation.

The Trojans' struggles have been well documented this season, but since the firing of Lane Kiffin after a 62-41 blowout loss on national television against conference foe Arizona State, they have gone 2-1 and nearly beat Notre Dame (14-10) in South Bend. The Beavers have used their passing game to score more than 40 points per game this season, leading them to a 4-1 record in conference play. Their sole loss in the Pac-12 came against Stanford last week, where the Beavers were held to only 271 yards in the air, and threw an incompletion in the end zone down 20-12 with one second left on the clock. Since 1992, USC has dominated in this series, going 13-4 SU against Oregon State, but only 9-8 ATS. These two programs last squared off in 2010, when the Beavers (as 3-point underdogs) defeated the Trojans 36-7 at home. In that game, there was only 585 yards of combined offense between the two teams, with the difference maker being the two turnovers by USC. Oregon State is an impressive 9-3 SU over its past 12 games at home, but has gone only 2-4 ATS in its past six at Reser Stadium. The Trojans are uncharacteristically 1-4 SU (0-5 ATS) in their past five road games. This will be the first time in the past 20 years that Oregon State is favored in this matchup, with USC averaging a two-touchdown spread advantage in those games. Trojans star WR Marqise Lee is questionable for this game with a knee injury.

USC has relied heavily on its defense this year to stay in games, as its offense has struggled (24.6 PPG) and has had to deal with injuries to their number one talent, WR Marqise Lee. He has not played in two of the past three games, and had only two catches for 18 yards in his last game played against Utah on Oct. 19. QB Cody Kessler has made due in Lee’s absence and has gone 36-for-62 (58.1%) for 431 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions in the two games. On the season, Kessler has thrown for 1,560 yards, nine touchdowns and five interceptions. With Lee out, WR Nelson Agholor has taken over the role of No. 1 receiver, and has 347 yards on 19 receptions (18.3 avg.) and two touchdowns over the past three games. HB Tre Madden has done well this season with 671 yards on 127 attempts (5.3 YPC) and three touchdowns. He has also added a lot to the passing game with 201 yards receiving (14.4 avg.) and four touchdowns. In his past two games played (did not play against Notre Dame on Oct. 19), Madden has only 17 total attempts. The Trojans defense has allowed just 19.3 points per game and 317.3 yards per game against on the season, including giving up only 201 total offensive yards against Utah in their last game, a 19-3 USC victory.

Oregon State has torn up opposing defenses through the air and has QB Sean Mannion to thank. Mannion leads the nation in both passing yards (3,263 yards) and passing touchdowns (30), and has thrown for 360+ yards with 3+ touchdowns in every game but one this season. He struggled last week against the Stanford defense with only 271 passing yards and one touchdown. Amazingly, in Mannion’s 391 attempts on the season, he has only three interceptions. Accompanying Mannion atop the nation’s offensive leaderboards is WR Brandin Cooks, who leads FBS in both receptions (85) and receiving yards (1,256) and is also tied for the lead in receiving touchdowns (13). Cooks has caught a touchdown in all but one of the Beavers eight games, including five multi-touchdown games, and has eclipsed 130 yards in six of eight games this season. Oregon State’s rushing attack has added only 533 yards on 219 attempts (2.4 YPC) this season, but does have 10 touchdowns. The Beavers have needed to put up a ton of points since their defense has not been that good, giving up an average of 27.4 PPG, including giving up a season-high 49 points in their first game of the year, a stunning loss against FCS school Eastern Washington.

WINNING POINTS

PRO BASKETBALL

New Orleans over *Orlando by 3
The Pelicans played well during preseason and could jump out fast with a healthy Eric
Gordon. This is their lone road matchup during their first four games.
NEW ORLEANS 91-88.

*Charlotte over Cleveland by 3
The Bobcats beat the Cavaliers for the first time in seven meetings during the final
regular season game last year in Charlotte, 105-98. The Bobcats have won and covered eight of their last 10 home contests with one of the losses occurring to the Heat.
CHARLOTTE 100-97.

*Washington over Philadelphia by 5
Washington was 3-4 ATS last season when laying more than five points and is at
Miami on Sunday followed by a rematch at Philadelphia on Wednesday.
WASHINGTON 94-89.

***BEST BET
Toronto over *Atlanta by 4
Toronto closed out last season winning seven of its last eight, including blowing out
the Hawks, 113-96, at Atlanta. The Hawks may be in for a slow start with a new
coach installing new offensive and defensive systems. Al Horford has been bothered
by a sore hamstring.
TORONTO 102-98.

*Boston over Milwaukee by 3
The Bucks are breaking in a new backcourt. Rajon Rondo isn't expected back this
soon for the Celtics.
BOSTON 99-96.

*Houston over Dallas by 8
Dallas lacks the interior defense to contain Dwight Howard. The Rockets travel to the
West Coast for their next three games so winning this matchup should be a priority.
HOUSTON 111-103.

*Memphis over Detroit by 12
Memphis has won better than 70 percent of its home games during the last three seasons. The Grizzlies have defeated the Pistons six consecutive times, including the last three at home by an average of 16 points.
MEMPHIS 95-83.

Oklahoma City over *Minnesota by 2
After opening with what should be a home breather against Orlando, the
Timberwolves face a potential stiff test. Minnesota covered six of its first seven games
last season before injuries decimated the team.
OKLAHOMA CITY 99-97.

***BEST BET
Miami over *Brooklyn by 15
The Nets can do the talk, but have yet to do the walk. Deron Williams hasn't been
100 percent and the Heat have knocked off the Nets 13 times in a row. The Nets went
0-3 last season to Miami losing by an average of 21 points. The sight of trash-talking
Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce should stir the blood of LeBron James and Dwayne
Wade.
MIAMI 104-89.

*Denver over Portland by 12
Fading Portland on the road rarely is a bad idea. The Trail Blazers covered only 42 percent of their away games last season. Portland also failed to cover 12 of its last 14
games against Western Conference opponents to close out last season.
DENVER 104-92.

*Phoenix over Utah by 4
The Suns' four-game home win streak against Utah was halted during the Jazz's last
visit. The Jazz are in for a long season with Gordon Hayward shaping up as their goto
scorer.
PHOENIX 97-93.

Los Angeles Clippers over *Sacramento by 6
The Kings enter this season having dropped eight of their last nine. The Clippers are
playing without rest, but have a far superior bench.
LA CLIPPERS 103-97.

San Antonio over *Los Angeles Lakers by 7
This is a start of three-game road swing for the Spurs, who must show they are over
their heart-breaking seven-game championship series loss to the Heat. Gregg
Popovich has lost some of his key assistants.
SAN ANTONIO 101-94

Four of last five series games went over the total. Lions snapped 3-game skid with 43-29 win over Edmonton last week, despite Esks throwing ball for 388 yards; BC is 7-1 at home this year, with only loss four weeks ago to Saskatchewan (31-17, -3). Stamps ran ball for 144.3 yards/game the last six weeks, could be problem for BC defense that allowed 150.7 ypg on ground in last three losses- they held Edmonton to 60 yards on ground last week.

Game: Detroit at Memphis (8:00 PM Eastern)
Pick: Memphis -7.5 (-103) at 5Dimes

Memphis fell short by 7 points in San Antonio, where not too many teams come out with a win. They really can look at an ugly second quarter where they shot just 11% and tallied all of 7 points. Zach Randolph had perhaps his worst game in years, scoring just 2 points in the opener, and now I expect him to come back strong at home tonight. The Pistons have struggled when facing teams from the NBA Western Conference, where they are a woeful 5-15-1 ATS in their last 21. The Grizzlies are at their best on a day of rest where they have captured the cash to a 12-3-1 ATS ark in their last 16. The Pistons have not solved the Grizzlies of late, where they are 0-7 ATS in the last seven meetings. Play on Memphis.

7-Unit Play. Take #491 Montreal +2.5 at Toronto (7:00 p.m., Friday, November 1st)

Montreal earned a split in their last two, both with Hamilton, but they probably should have won both games. Troy Smith is the guy heading into the last week of the season and going back to Hamilton in two weeks for the Division Semifinal and the chance to go to Toronto for the Finals. SJ Green and Duron Carter both looked like superstars last week with both guys going over a hundred yards and the defense will need to step up and get ready for the Grey Cup Playoffs. The Als look to be a tough out in the postseason and will need a win in this one to start their playoff push. Toronto has absolutely nothing to play for and starting quarterback Ricky Ray will not be playing andhe surely won't be alone in street clothes. The Argos will look for some bright spots to use in three weeks when they host the Division Final. Montreal is the team with something to play for in this one and the Argos will be in rest mode waiting for November 17th so look for the Als to take control early and win this one easy.

5-Unit Play. Take #493 Calgary PK at BC (10:00 p.m., Friday, November 1st)

Calgary has their playoff seed locked up and at 14-3 have little to play for heading to BC. The Stamps have stormed to 5 straight wins and have no reason to let down in the season finale with a week off before the Division Final on the 17th. They have been the best team in the league for the better part of the season and have the top ranked scoring, rushing and total yard offense which is running like a well oiled machine. Jon Cornish is breaking records with every yard he gains and it would be a surprise if Calgary reined him in before he is satisfied. BC is in the same boat as Calgary and actually has less to play for than the Stamps. They have to travel to Saskatchewan next week win or lose and that is no easy task with the way the riders have played this season. No Travis Lulay means Buck Pierce will guide the lions in this one and he may not even play the whole game. This could prove to be a lackluster effort on both sidelines and Calgary should have enough to pull out the win in the end.

7-Unit Play. Take #407 Tennessee (-3, +100) over St. Louis (1 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 3)
Note: This is an NFL Game of Year.

The look on Jake Long's face said it all.

The Rams maxed out on Monday Night Football against Seattle in a game that was essentially a Super Bowl for the home team. St. Louis didn't play particularly well, kept in the game by a combination of poor Seahawks play and terrible Seattle scheme. The Rams hung around just long enough to make a last-ditch effort to win the game, getting stopped on fourth-and-goal from the two-yard line to end the game.

That makes this the quintessential letdown spot for the Rams. Their locker room must've been like a mortuary all week. Their season has gone down the toilet. They have been beat up in the last two weeks by the Panthers and Seahawks, two very physical teams. A host of St. Louis starters - including the backup-now-starter at quarterback, Kellen Clemens - were hurt and not practicing, or limited, this week. Starting right guard Harvey Dahl is out and two other starters on the offensive line, LT Long and C Scott Wells, are also banged up, as were both top running backs (Stacy and Richardson).

There is a reason that that played against Seattle are 0-10 ATS in their next game, and that is because Seattle just pounds people. They are the new Steelers. Pittsburgh opponents went through a similar ATS crash for most of the 00's.

St. Louis had almost no fan support on Monday night. It was embarrassing. Yes, a big reason why was the fact that the Cardinals were playing in the World Series that night across town. But they lost too. So St. Louis fans these days probably want to throw themselves in traffic. I don't expect much of a showing from the crowd on Sunday and that is going to negate much of St. Louis' home field advantage.

On the flip side we have the Titans, a team that I think is underrated. Tennessee is rested and ready, coming off a bye whereas the Rams have a short week. The Titans have played a brutal schedule. They come in as a favorite here despite losing three straight games. But those losses were against San Francisco, at Seattle, and Kansas City. Tennessee was playing with its backup quarterback for most of those games and they still put up a game effort.

I think that the Titans are favored for a reason here. St. Louis' wins came against Arizona in the opener (in a game they were down 11 in the fourth quarter), against Jacksonville (who is pathetic) and at Houston (who outgained the Rams by 200 yards). And those wins came with underappreciated Sam Bradford at the controls. There is a reason Kellen Clemens is a journeyman quarterback and he can't do what Bradford did for this offense. Tennessee won at Pittsburgh, had Houston on the ropes, and played tough AT Seattle in their three road games.

This one is a play on the Rams in a letdown spot. Combine that with a Titans team that had two weeks to rest and is undervalued because of a just horrific three-game stretch of games and I think there is value here. I wouldn't wait for this line to get to 2.0 or 2.5. I would play it with no juice - or even + money on the juice - at 3.0. I don't think that this is a field goal game. I think that this is a game that will be decided by at least a touchdown and I see Tennessee getting the win here.

DONN WAGNER'S BREEDER'S CUP CARD FOR FRIDAY NOV 1st.

BELOW

Back SATURDAY by 2PM EST .."I love the card on Saturday!!!!!!"

FRIDAY:

Visitors here are my Breeder's Cups positions for Friday November 1st 2013:

I am going to take only about $200 today and make the following wagers. In my 15 years handicapping The Breeder's Cup I have had 10 winning meets. Last year was a bummer. I hope to do better this year. If I really like a race I will bet between 150 to $300 on it. When I have done this (Only 5 times on my Jockey Club program) each time I have made money. ( 3 winners , 1 place and 1 show*). * 20 to 1 shot paid $12.

An average play for me on a race is between $45 to $60. I am going back to my old ways. I am just playing straight bets and limiting my exotics. The trifectas and exactas have killed me in recent meets. Hitting that 5 figure trifecta in 2006 got me emphasing the wrong elements of what I generally do "BEST".

USC @ Oregon State

Interesting match-up we have here Friday night. This is going to be one of the better Friday night games we have all year. Oregon State QB Sean Mannion is playing out of his mind right now! Mannion is leading the nation in passing stats with 29 TDS, 3 INTS and almost 3,000 yards. Head coach Mike Riley owns the Trojans as he has won 5 of the last 6 meetings and he owns a perfect 6-0 SUATS mark at home versus a sub .666 conference opponent off a SUATS win. Back up coach Ed Orgeron is 0-13 SU away versus .500 or greater opponents, he’s compiled an awful 0-6 SUATS road record when his team’s win percentage is greater than .333. USC is 2-1 SU and ATS since Ed Orgeron took over as interim coach, and they’they’ve played ugly, defensive battles at Notre Dame (a 14-10 loss) and against Utah (a 19-3 win) in its last two. USC is 0-8 ATS away after 1 or more consecutive straight up wins over the L2 seasons. Mike Riley is 23-7 ATS after having won 3 out of their last 4 games as coach of OREGON ST. The home team is 7-1 ATS in their last 8 meetings, while the Trojans are 105 ATS in their last 6 meetings and 1-10 ATS their last 11 road games. We are rolling with the Beavers tonight at home in which should be a interesting game.

3-Unit play. #314 Oregon State Beavers -3.5 over the USC Trojans (Nov 1 @ 9pm ET)
The USC Trojans who rank as one of the best defenses in the Pac 12 will be put to the test
Friday night against the high powered offense of the Oregon State Beavers. The Trojans again are
expected to be without leading receiver Marqise Lee and several other key offensive players as
well which will not fare well going against one of the most lethal offenses in the nation. The
Beavers who rank #1 in pass yards should be able to put the points up against this USC defense.
The question becomes will the injured plagued offense of USC be able to keep pace? Although the
Trojans defense is tough they have yet to face a team as offensively sound as the Beavers yet
this season and it does not help their cause being on the road. Taking a look at the historical data
between these two teams the home team in this matchup is 7-1 against the spread the past
eight and the Trojans are 0-5 against the spread in their last five meetings in Oregon State. USC
plays great defense but unfortunately for the Trojans their offense won't be able to counter
punch with Oregon State. Take the Beavers and the points at -3.5 here and to be safe you might
want to buy the hook to get your line down to -3 .

FRIDAY COLLEGE FOOTBALL SELECTIONS
2-Unit Play. Take #314 Oregon State (-3.5) over USC (9 p.m., Friday, Nov. 1)
I don't buy into anything going on at USC right now. Lane Kiffin was a phenomenal loser and they
did the right thing by firing him during the season. But this still just isn't that good of a team.
They get a lot of respect from the public because they are "USC", but the fact of the matter is
that this has been a pretty mediocre group over the last three years. Oregon State has one of
the best quarterbacks and one of the biggest home field advantages in the conference. They
don't get a lot of hype and this is a chance for them to make a statement on national television.
The home team has won five straight in this series (and nine of 10) and covered seven of eight.
Oregon State has beaten the Trojans the last three times they have squared off in Corvallis. And
those were much better USC teams. Oregon State is 5-1 ATS in the series and they are just the
better team. USC will continue to struggle on the road and I will definitely take the Beavers at
this short price. I look for a 5-10 point win for the home team.

USC at Oregon St. (-4-) 9:00 ET ESPN2
5* Oregon St.
The Trojans have played with far more intensity and passion since interim HC Orgeron has taken
the reins. They have beaten Arizona and Utah at home, losing only to Notre Dame on the road.
But there is the rub, for the Trojans have struggled mightily on the road of late. In fact, they
have failed to cover in 10 straight road games including 3 failures this season, 2 as underdog. It
doesn’t get any better facing the prolific passing attack of Oregon St. that is averaging 421/8.4
through the air behind QB Mannion. Coming off a 20-12 home loss to Stanford, be sure the
Beavers will have full focus for this redemption game. Incidentally, Oregon St. has covered 5
straight in this series at this site against USC. A further indictment of the Trojans poor road
ability. On the heels of a 16-4 ATS (80%) Big Game run, it is time for NOVEMBER KNOCKOUT.

USC vs Oregon State
Take: Oregon State -3-120
6* NCAAF Friday Night Lights on Oregon State -3
The Key: USC has been an awful investment on the road. In fact, the Trojans are 0-8 ATS in their
last eight road games. They are also on a 0-6 ATS slide in Pac-12 road contests and a 0-7 ATS
slide in road games after playing a game at home. Additionally, USC is on a 0-7 ATS skid in all
games following any home win and is 0-5 ATS in its last five games following an ATS win. The
Trojans have also had their problems at Oregon State. They've lost four of their last five trips
there, including each of their last three, and are 0-5 ATS in these games. Lay the points.

Philadelphia 76ers vs Washington Wizards
Take: Washington Wizards -9½-102
7* NBA *HEAVY HITTER* on Wizards -9.5
The Key: Riding high off a shocking with over Miami, Philadelphia is prime for a letdown. Washington, meanwhile, will be extremely hungry after dropping its opener at Detroit. And, the
fact it lost by double-digits the last time it hosted the 76ers adds fuel to the fire. Everything
went right for the 76ers against the Heat. They raced out to a 19-0 lead, shot the lights out
(53.7%) and benefited from 19 Miami turnovers. Additionally, they caught Miami at just the right
as it was coming off a big win over Chicago and looking ahead to tonight's game against Brooklyn.
It all goes south for Philly here against a hungry Washington squad. The 76ers are 1-4 ATS in
their last 5 games following a win. The Wizards are 19-7 ATS in their last 26 home games. Lay the
points.
Cleveland Cavaliers vs Charlotte Bobcats

4-Unit Play. Take #717 Miami (-3.5) over Brooklyn (8 p.m., Friday, Nov. 1)
The Heat were embarrassed by their loss at Philadelphia on Wednesday. They let that game get
away from them late. But they will bounce back tonight. This is a big game for both teams. A lot
of former Celtics that the Heat had big rivalries with are now on the Nets. But Brooklyn is still
learning how to play together. They have a lot of veterans and are not sure of themselves. They
did not look that good against Cleveland. Miami is the defending champion. They will be focused
and the fact that they are favored in this game says it all. The oddsmakers know the Heat are
the much better team and I think they dominate this game just like they dominated the Bulls on
opening night.

3-Unit Play. Take 'Under' 194.5 - New Orleans at Orlando (7 p.m., Friday, Nov. 1)
Orlando is 2-0 ATS so far this year. But this is not a very good team. They are going to struggle
offensively. The Pelicans are going to be one of the better defensive teams in the West. They will
have to be because they do not have a lot of great scoring options. Neither team has a very
good bench. And this is a game that neither team really cares about. I don't see more than 185
points scored in this game and I think there is a lot of value on this 'under'. The 'under' is 13-5 in
the last 18 meetings and the 'under' is 43-19-1 in Orlando's last 64 games on Friday.

2-Unit Play. Take #707 Toronto (+3) over Atlanta (7:30 p.m., Friday, Nov. 1)
The Hawks are another team that is in transition. They lost two of their best players in Josh Smith
and Devin Harris. Another one of their best players, guard Lou Williams, is out until mid-December.
This team faded down the stretch against Dallas and I see the same thing in this game. Toronto
has played well in this series and they are 3-2 ATS in the last five meetings and 4-0 ATS in their
last four games down in Atlanta. And if you go back to last year this team ahs won six straight
games and eight of nine games. I think the Raptors really improved during the offseason. They
won easily against the Celtics in the home opener. I think they keep playing well and win this
game outright.

3 Unit Play Take #704 Charlotte +3 over Cleveland (7:05pm est):
I think Cleveland is getting a little bit too much credit for their upset win in their season opener Wednesday at home against a decent Brooklyn team. It was a very emotional game for the Cavs
who finally got to see a glimpse of Andrew Bynum in the contest and this helped energize
Cleveland to a win in the game. A lot tougher spot here as they go onto the road for game two.
I really like the energy of this Charlotte squad. You could see it a lot in the preseason as well as
they actually went 2-0 against Cleveland this year. They had the tough assignment of facing off
against one of the best teams in the NBA in their season opener, on the road at Houston. The
Bobcats put up a nice showing in the game losing by 13 points and getting the push against the
spread. Charlotte played a very clean game with just seven turnovers in the contest.
Love the Friday night home crowds in the NBA. Take the home underdog with Charlotte here in
this one.

3 Unit Play Take #710 Boston -2 over Milwaukee (7:35pm est):
Home opener tonight for Boston new head coach Brad Stevens. I think the Celtics may surprise
some people this year and be better than folks have them being. No doubt this isn't a very good
team but with Stevens running the show I expect a hard working group who will steal some wins
this season just by playing hard. We almost seen that in game one as the Celtics battled back to make a game of it on the road against Toronto. Boston was done in by rebounding in the game
but will look to get some much needed help back tonight with Jared Sullinger playing for them.
The Milwaukee Bucks lost starting guard Brandon Knight in the opener and look to be without him
here in this contest. This is a team already thin at guard with Luke Ridnour missing tonight's game
as well. The Bucks have struggled of late against the spread going just 7-22 their last 29 games
versus Eastern Conference opponents while the Celtics have done very well at home against
teams with losing road records going 26-10-2 ATS their last 38 games.
Take Boston here. Ready for another big weekend of football winners as I have 12 total plays
going on the gridiron between college and the NFL. I went 24-13 for the month of October in all
football selections and feel really tuned in of late with how things are going in both sports. There
was a lot to like this weekend in both CFB and the NFL and I will look to keep things rolling with
another big weekend.

3-Unit Play #703 Take Cleveland -3 over Charlotte (7 p.m. EST, Friday)
Charlotte will be improved this season. They played decently in the first half of their opening game
at Houston. However, we are really high on Cleveland this season and think that they are a
legitimate playoff contender in the East. They had a very strong showing in their home-opener,
beating the Nets outright as a 3.5-point dog. For the Cavs to be a playoff-type team, they have
to win games like this. And we think this team won't take opponents like this for granted, they are
not an established team yet, so they have no reason to underestimate a team like this. Charlotte
has some decent players, but the Cleveland lineup is much better. It is going to be a struggle for
the Cats to win this season whether on their home court or as visitors. We do think this Charlotte
team will start to have value later in the season as the losses stack up and the team starts to
gel. We don't think this is a team that will be tanking late season as they already have a nice
nucleus of young talent and want to build some momentum as a franchise. We think it will be
tough sledding to begin with, however, and we think this Cleveland team, which is pretty much
healthy, is ready to win now. And we thought this line should be closer to 5.5 or 6, and we would
probably have a strong position on the Cavs at anything under 7. Cleveland has also covered in
seven of the last eight meetings, and that trend bodes well for our pick tonight.

3-Unit Play #713 Take Detroit +7.5 over Memphis (8 p.m. EST, Friday)
We went against the Pistons for their Home Opener on Wednesday, and we lost. We were very
impressed by what we saw from this Detroit team, however. They dominated what we feel is a
pretty good Washington squad. We thought that Detroit would have some growing pains to start
the season implementing new players into the lineup and new coaching philosophies. What was most impressive about that game against the Wizards is that in most games every team makes a
run at some point, especially in a relatively close game. However, every time that Washington
would look like they were making a run, the Pistons would get a timely basket or big defensive
stand. Very impressive. Their offense looked incredible, too, and they have some pieces that look
like they will fit very nicely together. Wasn't very impressed with the Grizzlies in their opening loss
to the Spurs, a team they normally play tough. And since this is an out-of-conference game,
even though it is the home opener, I just don't think that the Grizzlies are going to be super
pumped for this game. This is a different version of an already unfamiliar team for them, and we
think that the momentum from that op

STRIKE POINT SPORTS
3-Unit Play. Take #722 Phoenix (-3) over Utah (10 p.m., Friday, Nov. 1)
I really like Phoenix in this spot. The Suns looked good in their home opener as they got great
results out of their two point guard duo of Goran Dragic and Eric Bledsoe. The Jazz meanwhile
played really well versus Oklahoma City on their opening night but it was at home and they were
ready to rock and roll versus one of the West's best teams. Now they travel to Phoenix and they
will suffer from a bit of a let down. The Jazz are going to struggle at the point this season and
having to face two solid guards will not be an easy task. This small line is perfect and Phoenix is
going to be an early season surprise as they start the season 2-0. Look for the Suns to control
the tempo in this contest and take advantage of playing both of their first two games at home to
start the season. The Suns head out on the road for a three-game set after tonights game, and
they won't want it to get away from them. They do have a night off following this contest which
will allow them to rest. Everything is falling right in to place for an easy Suns cover. The Suns are
4-1 ATS in their last five home games and the home team is 4-1 ATS in their last five games in
this series.

2-Unit Play. Take #717 Miami (-3.5) over Brooklyn (8 p.m., Friday, Nov. 1)
I know that everyone is expecting the Nets to be fired up for this game, and they will give it their
all versus the reigning NBA Champs, yada, yada, yada. Miami will make a statement tonight
following their loss to Philadelphia. The Heat are the Best team in the East and they will show the
Nets and their new additions that regardless of where a game is played they are the top dogs.
Look for this game to be close but Miami to pull away in the end to win by 7-10 points. Dwayne Wade should be playing tonight following his rest versus Philadelphia and the Nets should continue
to cap Derron Williams' minutes in this game. Miami won all three games versus the Nets last year
by an average of 21 points and they have beaten the Nets 13 straight times.

OC Dooley:“1 UNIT” NATIONAL-TV NBA INTANGIBLE (Heat -3’ at Nets in an 8:15 eastern tipoff on ESPN): The situation for visiting Miami is radically different than at this time one year ago when the New York/New Jersey area was recovering from a hurricane that caused massive amounts of damage. One year ago in the first game played in New York following Hurricane Sandy not only did Miami fail to cover the spread inside famed Madison Square Garden they were trounced by a 104-84 final count. Thus the two-time defending league champions are in a “double revenge” situation this evening as once again they visit the Big Apple. Even though they are not facing the Knicks this time around, the Heat still have a rivalry situation with a new Brooklyn roster headed by a pair of former Boston starts Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce. The problem for the Nets is that it is going to take some time to gel as a unit with both new personnel and a MISSING head coach as Jason Kidd (DUI) is still serving a two-game suspension. Miami got off to a rousing start back on Tuesday covering the spread against another rival (Chicago) but that all came crashing down a night later on the road with a stunning loss versus arguably the worst team in the league (Philadelphia). Thus LeBron and company enter tonight’s game in a poor mood which is bad news for Brooklyn who in the series against Miami has lost 13 in a row, while “failing” to cover the spread 5 times in the most recent six meetings
