Thursday Night Football betting: Chargers at Broncos

San Diego Chargers at Denver Broncos (-10.5, 56)

The Denver Broncos can wrap up a perfect home record - and move a step closer to ensuring they stay there throughout the playoffs - with a win over the visiting San Diego Chargers on Thursday. Denver has clinched a playoff spot and has a one-game lead over Kansas City in the AFC West and over New England for the AFC's top seed. "I guess you have some security but our job is not finished," receiver Eric Decker told the team's website. "Winning this division is No. 1, and winning this conference is No. 2."

While the Broncos hold the head-to-head tiebreaker over the Chiefs, their margin of error for home-field advantage is ultra thin by virtue of losing to the Patriots in overtime last month. The Chargers are backed much farther into the corner, sitting one game behind Miami and Baltimore in the race for the last playoff spot. To a man, the Chargers called their 37-14 drubbing of the New York Giants on Sunday their most complete game of the season, and they'll likely need to duplicate it to upset the Broncos in Denver.

TV: 8:25 p.m. ET, NFL Network.

LINE: The Broncos opened as 10.5-point home faves. The total opened at 55 and is up to 56.

WEATHER: Temperatures will be in the mid-30s with wind blowing toward the N endzone at 5 mph.

ABOUT THE CHARGERS (6-7): San Diego has a glimmer of hope after winning two of his last three but its remaining schedule includes not only the trip to Denver but also a visit from the Chiefs in the season finale. Quarterback Philip Rivers has enjoyed a resurgent season, completing 70.3 percent of his passes for 3,882 yards with 26 TDs and nine interceptions. The defense has given up more than 400 total yards four times and surrendered 397 in a 28-20 home loss to Denver in Week 10, but the Chargers have forced 12 turnovers in their past eight games after just two takeaways in their first five contests.

ABOUT THE BRONCOS (11-2): Denver is 7-0 at home, where it has won by an average of 20.4 points after last week's 51-28 triumph over Tennessee. Quarterback Peyton Manning put to rest any concerns about his ability to perform in cold weather, going 39-of-59 for 397 yards and four touchdowns against the Titans with the temperature well below freezing. Manning has a bevy of weapons at his disposal, as the Broncos are the first team in NFL history to have four players with 10 or more touchdowns - Knowshon Moreno (12), Julius Thomas (11), Demaryius Thomas (11) and Wes Welker (10).

TRENDS:

* Chargers are 5-0-4 ATS in their last nine meetings in Denver.
* Over is 6-1 in the last seven meetings in Denver.
* Broncos are 5-0 ATS in their last five Thursday games.
* Under is 7-1 in Chargers last eight vs. AFC.

EXTRA POINTS:

1. Manning has recorded 11 games with 300 or more passing yards this season, tying Tom Brady for the second-most in NFL history.

2. Chargers WR Keenan Allen has 61 receptions - a franchise record for a rookie - for 902 yards and five TDs.

3. The Broncos need to score 75 points in their last three games to break the NFL record of 589 set by the 2007 Patriots. They average 39.6.

Tale of the Tape: San Diego Chargers at Denver Broncos

Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos continue their march toward home-field advantage throughout the AFC playoffs as they host the San Diego Chargers in the Week 15 Thursday nighter.

Manning and the Broncos also have history in their sights, as they come into the week needing just 75 points to set the single-season scoring record set by the 2007 New England Patriots. The Chargers remain in the playoff hunt, but will need to upend a Denver team that is 7-0 SU at home.

Here's the breakdown in our betting tale of the tape:

Offense

The Broncos remain historically dominant on the offensive end, and are coming off a 51-point explosion against a Tennessee pass defense that came into the game as one of the stingiest in the league. Denver averages more than 340 passing yards per contest - easily tops in the league - with Manning racking up 45 touchdowns against just nine interceptions. He has been sacked a league-low 15 times for just 96 yards. The Broncos have also been above-average in the running game, ranked 12th in total yards (1,617) and tied for second in touchdowns (16).

While not on par with the Denver juggernaut, the Chargers have a sensational pass attack in their own right. Led by rejuvenated quarterback Philip Rivers, San Diego boasts the fourth-most passing yards entering Week 15 (3,753) with 26 touchdowns and nine interceptions. The offensive line has done an effective job protecting Rivers for most of the season, yielding 24 sacks. The running game has been the team's offensive weak spot to date, compiling just 1,454 yards - good for 20th in the league - with only seven scores.

Edge: Denver

Defense

Not even Manning's exploits have been able to mask a Denver pass defense that ranks among the worst in the NFL. The Broncos have been torched for 3,566 yards - the fourth-highest total in football - while surrendering 24 touchdowns against 15 interceptions. Denver is in the middle of the pack when it comes to pressuring opposing quarterbacks, registering 34 sacks for 245 yards. The Broncos' run defense has limited the opposition to 1,298 yards - seventh-fewest in the league - but has given up 14 touchdowns. Only five teams have surrendered more.

The Chargers are a suitable match for the Broncos in the pass defense department, allowing the fifth-most yards through 14 weeks - just 99 fewer than division-rival Denver. San Diego has held foes to 20 touchdown passes with nine interceptions, and has racked up 31 sacks totaling 225 yards. The Chargers have been gouged for a league-worst 4.8 yards per carry against, ranking 19th in opposing rushing yards (1,505) and allowing 11 scores on the ground. On the plus side, San Diego held the New York Giants to 92 rushing yards in last week's 37-14 win.

Edge: Even

Special Teams

The Broncos remain one of just a handful of NFL teams with both a kickoff-return and punt-return touchdown. The Broncos average 25.6 yards per kick return - eighth-most in the NFL - but have dipped to 19th in the league in punt-return average (8.5). Denver surrenders the highest kick-return average in football at 29.8 yards, but has limited foes to a reasonable 9.6 yards on 20 punt returns. Matt Prater has been one of the best kickers in the league this season - missing just one field goal - and is coming off an NFL-record 64-yarder in last week's one-sided win over the Titans.

The Chargers' return game has been underwhelming for the most part, ranking 17th in kick-return average (23.2) and 24th in punt-return average (7.6) with a long attempt of 21 yards. San Diego has given up the most total kickoff yards in the league by a wide margin (1,424), but is allowing a less-objectionable 24.1 yards per attempt and hasn't allowed a return longer than 46 yards. Only six teams have allowed fewer yards per punt return than San Diego (7.0). Kicker Nick Novak is 26-for-29 on field-goal attempts, including a 3-for-3 showing against the Giants.

Edge: Denver

Notable Quotable

"Some of this is giving guys opportunities to see what they can do. We try to get better every day and every week as we move closer to the end of the season. Our agenda is to get better every day." - Denver head coach John Fox on the Broncos' defensive personnel turnover

"I'm a firm believer of 'go as long as you can.' I've got no problem with the running back (handling a high volume). We've always played with two (backs) where I've been, from Carolina to Denver to here. We've always told the hot hand to stay in." - Chargers head coach Mike McCoy on giving running back Ryan Mathews 29 carries versus the Giants

Rockets at Trail Blazers: What bettors need to know

Houston Rockets at Portland Trail Blazers (-3.5, 211.5)

The Portland Trail Blazers and the Houston Rockets are following a similar formula to the top of the Western Conference with strong inside-outside combinations and rapid ball movement leading to 3-pointers. The Trail Blazers will attempt to prove they run it better when they host the Rockets on Thursday. Portland holds the top record in the West and is second in the NBA in scoring, behind only Houston.

The Rockets are winners of two straight thanks to an improved effort on the defensive end and the continued acclimation of Dwight Howard to Houston’s high screen-and-roll offense. That high screen system between James Harden and Howard should look familiar to the Trail Blazers, who run plenty of the same with Damian Lillard and LaMarcus Aldridge. Portland did not respond well to that scheme in the first meeting, a 116-101 home loss on Nov. 5.

TV: 10:30 p.m. ET, TNT

ABOUT THE ROCKETS (15-7): Houston is in the bottom half of the league in scoring defense but is making its way up by holding its last two opponents to an average of 85.5 points. “I think we have a better mindset and we are more comfortable and executing to the scouting report very well,” forward Chandler Parsons said of the last two games. “I think out problem is we haven’t fully grasped that we can lose to any team on any given night.” That should not be a problem against the Blazers if the first meeting was any indication. Harden led the way with 33 points in that one as Rockets shot 54.7 percent from the field.

ABOUT THE TRAIL BLAZERS (18-4): Portland had a four-game winning streak come to an end with a loss to the Dallas Mavericks on Saturday but bounced right back with a win at Utah and is making a brief stop at home before heading out on a four-game road trip. Aldridge was named the Western Conference Player of the Week for last week after posting four straight double-doubles and even began to hear “MVP” chants in Utah on Monday. “It was a blessing and definitely something I feel I’ve worked hard for,” Aldridge told the team’s official website. “I’ve never heard MVP chants on the road, that was definitely new for me.”

TRENDS:

* Over is 4-0 in the last four meetings.
* Rockets are 5-0-1 ATS in the last six meetings in Portland.
* Trail Blazers are 5-0 ATS in their last five Thursday games.
* Underdog is 7-2-1 ATS in the last 10 meetings.

BUZZER BEATERS:

1. Houston has taken three straight in the series and has won five of its last six in Portland.

2. Rockets G Jeremy Lin (knee) is expected to make his return from a six-game absence on Thursday.

3. Howard has pulled down 18 or more rebounds in each of the last three games to boost his average to 13.3 boards.

Parlay kings: Are the Blazers the best parlay lock in the NBA
By CHASE RUTTIG

Boasting an impressive nucleus of young talent that is finally healthy for a change (don't tell Brandon Roy or Greg Oden), the Portland Trail Blazers are the best ATS team in the NBA through a quarter of the season at 22 games. With a 16-6 ATS record, the Blazers are also the best team in regards to the Over, hitting over the total 15 times this season.

This makes the Blazers the NBA's best team to add to your parlays this season, shocking considering the Blazers struggles in 2012-13.

Today we look at why the Blazers have been so good this season and if their value will stay true into the future.

Hot shooting

Naturally, if you are a team that is hitting the Over you are likely among the best in the Association in FG percentage, FT percentage, 3PT percentage and points per game. The Blazers are in the Top 10 of all of those categories, ranking second in PPG (106.2) ninth in FG percentage (45.8), second in 3PT percentage (41.5) and first in FT percentage (81.7).

The Blazers have efficient players in LaMarcus Aldridge, Damian Lillard, Wesley Matthews and Nicolas Batum who can all score when needed so it is no surprise that they are filling the baskets at will so far this season, but shooting that good will eventually cool down at some point if it is only a trend.

Not slowing down

Portland has still been going Over the past ten games, losing just three times against the spread and going under just twice. With the lines adjusting to the Blazers' hot start, it is promising that they have continued to keep winning wagers over their past ten games.

Portland has been equally as hot in terms of wins and losses, losing just twice SU over that ten game span.

If a cool down period is expected, it could be awhile based on their 10 game record.

Good hosts, better guests

Portland has done it both at home and on the road in terms of ATS wins, but they are even better when they are away from the venue Formerly Known as the Rose Garden.

Their 7-4 home record is topped by their 9-2 record on the road, they make up for it by playing the Over better at home with their friendly rims going 8-3 with the totals at home and 7-4 on the road. Once again that is quality value you won't find elsewhere in the NBA.

Will it last?

The next ten games will likely show how legit the Blazers are both in the Western Conference and at the sportsbook.

Their first quarter value has been outstanding, but at the same time the linesmakers will be taking this into consideration each time they handicap Portland. That goes the same for their Western Conference opponents, who will be doing their best to test the surprising 18-4 Blazers who now think they are contenders in the tough West pack.

Only time will tell, but for now you can't go wrong throwing the Blazers on your NBA parlays for the time being. ATS or with the Over, they have been money so far.

Boston College* over Maryland by 8
We knock Boston College and their soft ways (31.4 rebounds per game vs. 40.4
rebounds per game for #3-ranked national rebounders Maryland), but the biggest
home-cooked conference meals tend to come in home openers, and BC does shoot a
lot of threes to help offset their main weakness. They beat Maryland here last season
despite one Maryland player nailing 7 three-pointers. Hello? They also have a huge
edge in free-throw percentage, about 80% to 60%, and they’re probably a better team
now that shot-clanging guard Lonnie Jackson is seeing less floor time (19 minutes per
game vs. 28 per game a year ago).
BOSTON COLLEGE, 78-70.

Depaul* over Florida Atlantic by 12
"I love man-to-man, but the NCAA has basically turned this into a zone game," said
FAU head coach Mike Jarvis recently, about the new foul-calling rules. "We adjusted."
Of course, he said that after a home win against bricklaying Central Florida. This is
up in class, and on the road, against Blue Demons shooting 39.5% from three-point
range. Shut down 6’5” Pablo Bertone and you shut down the visiting Owls. Of course,
Depaul head coach Oliver Purnell would have to first figure that out, which he sometimes
doesn’t until his post-game address.

NFL Opening Line Report

Oddsmakers padding postseason pushes

This point of the NFL season can be especially tricky for books and bettors, with teams in pursuit of the playoffs either bursting with added motivation or crumbling under the postseason pressure.

There can be good value spotting a team going all out down the stretch, which is why oddsmakers aren’t ashamed to say their padding the lines for those must-win games.

“As we go into the final few weeks, we really want to hedge higher on those teams fighting for the playoffs,” says Peter Korner, founder of the Nevada-based odds service The Sports Club. “This is time of year we admit to adding a couple points to those teams that really need a win.”

There are plenty of games on the Week 15 schedule with postseason implications, including a AFC West war between the San Diego Chargers and Denver Broncos on Thursday Night Football.

Offshore books opened this line as low as Denver -10.5, but Korner says the Broncos need a win as much as any team right now. His oddsmakers sent out a suggested line of Denver -13, knowing the Broncos are motivated to clinch home-field advantage for the postseason – a key component to their Super Bowl plans.

“Both teams are fighting for playoff positioning but the Broncos poured it on against the Titans,” says Korner. “We sent out Denver -13 and saw that there were some 10’s out there – I don’t understand that line. There’s no need to be low on the highest-scoring team in the NFL. It’s going to be cold in Denver and San Diego isn’t going to like that. I don’t think we’re overpricing the Broncos. It’s just a better line.”

NBA TNT doubleheader: Clippers at Nets, Rockets at Blazers

Los Angeles Clippers at Brooklyn Nets (+2.5, 195.5)

The Brooklyn Nets seek their first three-game winning streak of the season when they host the Los Angeles Clippers on Thursday in what could be another emotional night for forwards Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett. The veteran stars will be opposite Clippers head coach Doc Rivers, who guided them to the 2008 NBA title during a solid run with the Boston Celtics that ended this offseason. Pierce and Garnett already got through one emotional affair Tuesday, when they topped the Celtics in the first meeting with their former team.

Rivers' current crew is coming off a 96-88 win in Boston on Wednesday in his return to TD Garden, where fans gave him a rousing ovation. The victory gave the Clippers a 3-2 mark on their season high-tying seven-game road trip, during which they have held four opponents to 88 points or fewer. Blake Griffin scored 30 points and grabbed 12 rebounds in Los Angeles' 110-103 victory over Brooklyn at home on Nov. 16.

TV: 8 p.m. ET, TNT

ABOUT THE CLIPPERS (15-8): Wednesday's win featured another standout performance from Jamal Crawford, who scored 21 points in 27 minutes, including back-to-back 3-pointers in the closing minutes. Crawford has always been a quality scorer, but has stepped up his offensive game in the wake of the injury to fellow shooting guard J.J. Redick. Including the game at Sacramento on Nov. 29 in which Redick hurt his right hand, Crawford is averaging 18.1 points off the bench.

ABOUT THE NETS (7-14): Brooklyn has won three of five games after a 4-12 start. That may not mean much in the grand scheme of things, but if star guard Deron Williams can remain healthy there should be better days ahead. Williams returned from a nine-game layoff Tuesday against the Celtics and instantly provided a boost, scoring a game-high 25 points as the Nets topped the century mark for the first time in seven games.

TRENDS:

* Over is 9-3 in the last 12 meetings.
* Underdog is 4-0 ATS in the last four meetings.
* Nets are 1-6 ATS in their last seven home games.
* Under is 4-0 in Clippers last four overall.

BUZZER BEATERS:

1. Clippers F Antawn Jamison scored his 20,000th point Wednesday.

2. Brooklyn played without Pierce, Garnett, Williams and leading scorer C Brook Lopez in the loss at Los Angeles last month.

3. The Clippers' seven-game trip ends in Washington on Saturday, after which the team will fly home to complete a 6,103-mile excursion.

NBA Basketball

502 Brooklyn Nets +2½: This looks like a great spot for the Nets as the schedule really favors their chances to win this game as the road weary Clippers play their sixth straight road game and 3rd in as many as 4 days.

NHL Hockey

2 Philadelphia Flyers +115: This is one of our top system high percentage plays as we get the Flyers at home with a five game losing streak and plus money.

NCAA Basketball

505 Maryland -2½: This will be both teams first conference game and we have to reasons to play on Maryland, Parry’s Power Page has them as a -5 1/2 point favorite and the home team Boston College plays little or no defense.

SAN DIEGO (301) AT DENVER (302)
Latest Line: Denver -10.0; Total: 56.0

The Chargers try to keep their slim playoff hopes alive with a visit to the Broncos on Thursday night. San Diego is coming off its largest win of the year, a 37-14 drubbing of the Giants, while Denver crushed the Titans 51-28, behind 4 TD passes from Peyton Manning, who now has 45 TD this year. Since joining the Broncos, Manning is 3-0 (2-1 ATS) versus the Chargers, throwing for 909 yards, 10 TD and 2 INT. But Chargers QB Philip Rivers is also having a career year (26 TD, 9 INT), and his 244 passing YPG, 25 TD and 12 INT as a starter in this series is a big reason why his team is 9-6 SU (9-5-1 ATS) in the past 15 meetings.

Game: Dallas at Nashville (8:00 PM Eastern)
Pick: Dallas +108 (moneyline) at Bookmaker

Nashville has been the consummate .500 team as they entertain Dallas at home tonight. They bring with them a resume that reads 14-14-3. The problem is that home ice has not treated them any better where they are a pedestrian 6-6-3 on the season. That home mark has been deteriorating of late as they have dropped four straight here by a combined 14-5 margin against them. Dallas at 9-6-1 on the road, has done a terrific job lately by winning seven of their last nine roadies. The Stars have been strong after getting foiled on the defensive end, as they are a robust 10-2 in their last 12 after allowing 5 or more goals in their previous contest. The Predators' home woes extended when facing a team with a winning road record as they are a woeful 7-19 in their last 26. Make the play on Dallas.

Where the action is: Total could keep climbing for Chargers-Broncos

The final Thursday Night Football of the NFL season showcases an AFC West rivalry, with the San Diego Chargers visiting the Denver Broncos on primetime. We talk to Michael Stewart, an oddsmaker for CarbonSports.ag, about the action heading into Thursday’s kickoff:

San Diego Chargers at Denver Broncos – Open: -11, Move: -10

Early sharp money jumped on the Bolts at +11, and trimmed the spread to Denver -10.5 – just above the key number. Some books are dealing an even -10 as of Thursday morning.

Since making that adjustment, Stewart says action has been relatively split with 65 percent of the money coming in on the Broncos, who are looking to lock up a playoff spot and home-field advantage in the postseason.

“I have a feeling that as we get closer to gametime, we’re going to be forced to push this number back to Broncos -11,” says Stewart. “But for now, we’re very happy with our position on this game. As is the case with most Broncos games, we’re going to need the dog and we knew that when we originally hung our opener. Seeing that early support on the dog validates to us, that the Chargers are live in this contest and we don’t mind needing them to cover this double-digit spread.”

The total for Thursday’s divisional matchup opened at 56 points and took instant action on the Over, pushing the number to 56.5. The push toward the Over didn’t stop there and books are now dealing this Over/Under as high as 57.5.

“We’ve seen about 85 percent of the money come in on the Over in this contest,” says Stewart. “Unless we see sharp action bet us Under this total, we’re going to be going to 58 at some point later today.”

2 UNIT = San Diego Chargers @ Denver Broncos - OVER 55.5 POINTS (-105)
(Note: I'm risking 2.00 units to win 1.90 units)
We come back on the OVER in Denver tonight for Thursday Night football. We've got the Broncos
leading the NFL in a ton of offense categories including yards per game (465), yards per play (6.3)
and points per game (39.6). The Chargers aren't far behind offensively ranking 4th in the NFL
overall and averaging 6.1 yards per play and 24.3 ppg. While both teams have well above average
offenses the same cannot be said for their defenses. The Broncos defense has picked up it's play
a bit lately, but still rank 25th in the NFl and giving up 26.5 papg. The Chargers defense ranks
28th overall and give up 22.4 points per game, but they are giving up a league worst 6.3 yards
against per play - which isn't going to be pretty tonight vs Manning at home. The Broncos are
averaging 42.3 points per game at home, while the Chargers average 24.6 points per game on the
road. Although these teams combined for just 48 points in their meeting in San Diego I expect a
lot more from Denver offensively tonight at home. The OVER is 6-2 in the Chargers last 8 vs the
AFC West, 5-1-1 in their last 7 road games vs a team with a winning home record, and 41-19-4 in

Indian Cowboy's Picks For College Basketball

5-Unit Play. #505. Take Maryland -2 over Boston College (Thursday @ 7pm est).

Normally we stick with Big10, SEC, Big12 and Metro Atlantic but on smaller cards such as today we look for any contest with clear value that is significant on our sheets. I am a huge underdog guy but I've learned over the years that the favorites take the early cake in the first few months of the season and then the active underdogs take root (check the intro video on the page to see the active dog theory more in detail). Maryland is undervalued here because it is an early season meeting between these two teams. The Terps are a top 60 team in my book (though some power rankings have them as high as top 45). This is a team that lost by 1 point to Connecticut 78-77 which should say something about their prowess and note that they beat a top 75 team in Providence by a few points earlier this year as well and come off back to back losses against quality Ohio State and George Washington a top 50 team in my book. So, you have a quality Maryland team that is top 60 coming off back to back losses looking to avoid losing 3 straight facing a BC team whose biggest win comes against top 150 Washington. They have yet to beat a top 100 team all year nevertheless a team like Maryland who has revenge against Boston College from last year's loss to boot as well. Boston College has consistently lost by double-digits when they face top 60 opponents and I have this game as Maryland by 8-10 points so laying the short 2 points on the road I think is sufficient enough for us to make this a small step-out similar to the 5* in the NBA yesterday which was a double-digit cover.

Indian Cowboy's Picks For NBA Basketball

3-Unit Play. #501. Take Under 196.5 LA Clippers vs. Brooklyn (Thursday @ 8pm est).

I enjoy fading the public on Thursday nights or just cards with limited contests in it as typically going against the public on a limited card such as a Monday Night Football game or Thursday Night Basketball game (just 2 games on today's card) - and even Sunday Night contests pay dividends over the long haul. As per this contest, these two teams just met earlier and over 200 points were scored and I expect them to be more accustomed to each other this time around as they face each other. Look for adjustments to be made and look for Brooklyn to be much more defensively inclined than the last time out as I suspect both teams will be held under 100 points a piece and consequently this game to go under the posted total. I actually have this game at 188 so getting the 7.5 is worth it in my opinion as we take under the posted total on a nationally televised game where everyone's motivation will be higher given that the league's eyes will be on this game. The Under is 10-1 for the Clippers in their last 11 road games and the Under is 4-1 for the Nets when they face the Western Conference. More importantly, nationally televised game on a limited card, second time these two teams play each other so adjustments will likely be made and a decent public fade as well as most will be on the over.

Indian Cowboy's Picks For NHL Hockey

3-Unit Play. #5. Take over 5.5 Goals Detroit vs. Tampa Bay (Thursday @ 7:35pm)

The Detroit Red Wings had to go to the final night of the season to extend the longest current playoff streak in the NHL to (22) seasons. Detroit Red Wings head coach Mike Babcock knows that Detroit is no longer the feared team as their defense is suspect in front of goalie Jimmy Howard. To that end, the additions of Daniel Alfredsson and Stephen Weiss will boost an offense that sagged to under (2.6) goals per game. After back-to-back miserable seasons there's nowhere to go but up for the Lightning. With their goaltending situation figured out following the acquisition of Ben Bishop late last season and the duo of Steven Stamkos and Martin St. Louis primed for another big year, the potential is there for a bounce-back performance. Still, keeping the puck out of the net is the Achilles heel with this team. The Over is (4-0) in Red Wings last (4) Thursday games and (5-2) in the last (7) meetings, including a solid (4-1) in the last (5) meetings in Tampa Bay.

Chargers at Broncos
By Kevin Rogers

The Broncos play their final regular season game at Sports Authority Field on Thursday, but it definitely won't be the last home contest for Denver. The Chargers are in desperation mode at 6-7, entering Week 15 one game behind Baltimore and Miami for the sixth and final playoff spot in the AFC. San Diego needs a win in the worst way, but can it duplicate a strong home effort from this past Sunday?

The Lightning Bolts struck the Giants early and often in a 37-14 rout as three-point favorites in Week 14. San Diego jumped to a commanding 24-0 halftime lead thanks to three touchdown passes from Philip Rivers, while the Chargers' defense intercepted Eli Manning twice in the victory. The Chargers evened their home mark at 3-3, as Mike McCoy's team rebounded from a defeat to the Bengals one week earlier in a 17-10 setback.

Denver continued its home domination, in spite of falling behind Tennessee, 21-10 in the second quarter. The Broncos blitzed the Titans, 31-7 in the second half to record a 51-28 rout and easily cash as 13-point favorites. Peyton Manning attempted 59 passes, but found a way to throw four more touchdowns to increase his season total to 45, while hitting four different receivers for scores. Denver improved to 7-0 SU and 5-1-1 ATS at home, as the Broncos went over the 40-point mark for the first time since a Week 8 blowout of Washington.

The last time the Broncos and Chargers faced off came in Week 10 at Qualcomm Stadium, as Denver came out with a 28-20 road triumph. The Broncos barely covered the seven-point number, in spite of building a 28-6 lead in the third quarter. Manning burned the Chargers' for four touchdowns, including a career-best three scores by wide receiver Demaryius Thomas. Denver has beaten San Diego four straight times, including the last three since the arrival of Manning with the Broncos prior to the 2012 season.

The Chargers have been listed as a three-point underdog or more three times on the highway this season, resulting in a 2-1 SU and 2-0-1 ATS record. San Diego won outright as 7½-point 'dogs at Philadelphia in Week 2, while pulling off a solid divisional triumph at Kansas City in Week 12 in a 41-38 shootout victory. The lone straight-up defeat came in Week 3 at Tennessee, as the Chargers pushed as three-point underdogs in a 20-17 setback as the Titans scored the go-ahead touchdown in the final minute.

Since the start of last season, the Broncos have put together a stellar 14-2 SU and 11-4-1 ATS record at Sports Authority Field with the two losses coming to Houston last September and the heartbreaking defeat to Baltimore in the second round of the 2012 playoffs. The Broncos continue to be a machine to the 'over' at home, cashing in six of seven contests in Colorado this season.

Denver wide receiver Wes Welker has been ruled out of Thursday's matchup after suffering a concussion in the win over Tennessee, his second concussion of the season. Welker has scored just two touchdowns in the last seven games after finding the end zone eight times in the first six contests.

VegasInsider.com handicapper Antony Dinero gives San Diego a shot here on the road, "The Chargers have no room for error if they want to get back to .500 and stay in the playoff race, so expect a desperate football team to show up for this AFC West clash. Without Welker, Manning has one less option, but odds are good he'll be able to do plenty of damage against a porous defense. Fortunately, Rivers is capable of winning a shootout, and this may be the week where second-string tight end LaDarius Green re-emerges as a game-breaker. However it goes, San Diego has to do whatever it takes, even if that means giving Ryan Mathews a season-high in carries for the second week in a row."

Denver is listed as a 10½-point favorite on Thursday, as the Broncos have cashed three of four times this season when laying double-digits. The total sits between 56 and 57 depending on where you shop, as the first meeting finished 'under' 56. The game kicks off at 8:30 PM EST and can be seen on the NFL Network.

ANDRE GOMES
NBA - 503 Houston Rockets @ 504 Portland Trail Blazers
***DOUBLE DIME PLAY***
The public just love the Over in this contest and the total line jumped @215.5 points. My fair line
is 208/210 points so now we have the proper edge to make a big play w/ the UNDER.
These two teams are great offensive teams but I think that defense will be a key factor for
tonight due to the way the matchups will work.
After being humiliated @Utah by losing & allowing 109 points to the lowly Jazz, the Rockets have
now 3 solid consecutive great defensive games w/ Def. Rtg of 101.7, 84.0 and 94.2. In this
stretch, note that the great Warriors offense was held to just 83 points! Houston defensive
rebounding ranking in the league is a subpar #19 w/ 74.1% Defensive Rebounding% but lately
they have been great in not allowing offensive boards to their opponents, L5 games = 81%! This
is important because the Blazers are one of the best offensive rebounding teams in the league
(ranked #4 w/ 28.9%) and with the Rockets doing a solid job on the defensive glass, the Blazers
won’t be able to score on second chances. POR in their L4 games grabbed 16, 17, 17 and 11
offensive boards but tonight they will have a tough task to get that many off. Reb.
It might sound strange to say, but James Harden has looked better defensively lately. GSW
offensive strategy was to explore Harden’s bad defense but he answered pretty well in that game,
it was one of the biggest reasons why GSW struggled so badly offensively in that game. The
perception is that the Rockets are a bad defensive team but I have them ranked #8 in defensive
efficiency!
On the other end, the Blazers defense will have some problems to contain Dwight Howard but
their primary defensive principle – defend the 3pts line (they are ranked #6 allowing just 33.8%) is
built to face a team like the Rockets who are #1 in Three Pointers Attempted per Game w/ 27.6 mark. Note that after their great shooting display @SAS, the Rockets are shooting only 28%
behind the line (34-120) so we have a nice defensive edge in this key area.
In the first h2h, the Rockets won on the road in a game that ended w/ 217 points. Here some
factors that explains such high scoring outcome that won’t happen tonight: 1) The Rockets were
playing w/ Asik & Howard together on the front and with Jeremy Lin & Harden on the backcourt.
The current starting lineup w/ Beverly and Jones filling Asik & Lin makes the Rockets a better
defensive team when compared vs. early on the season; 2) Robin Lopez battled foul trouble
(played only 18 minutes) and his primary backup was Meyers Leonard! Obviously it was a field day
for Howard (10-13 FG, 9-12 FT) as it was too easy to score near the basket. I have HOU w/ 27-
41 FG near the basket in that game! Lopez is playing some solid basketball and Leonard was so
bad defensively that he is out of the rotation right now!
I'm taking the UNDER in here as my Double Dime Play!
Pick: 4 units (Double Dime Play) on 503/504 Under 215.5 @ -110

double-dime bet -505 Maryland -3.0 (-105) vs 506 Boston Col

Maryland is off to a slow start, but the Terrapins catch Boston College at a good time in their ACC
opener. The Eagles' confidence is down following back-to-back losses to Purdue and USC by a
combined 37 points.
The Eagles have yet to get things together as the team still is in an adjustment period.
Maryland's key is getting more consistent point guard production. That should start to come now
with the elevation of talented freshman Roddy Peters to starting point guard. Peters leads the
team in assists despite coming off the bench in all but two games.
Maryland has covered seven of its last nine road games for 78 percent

A bit much to ask the Clippers and HC Rivers to go to the emotional well once again tonight. This
is their 6th road game in 9 nights following their 4th quarter rout of the Celtics last night in HC
Rivers emotional return to Boston. Now, the former Boston coach must reunite with former players
such as Pierce, KG, and Terry as he brings his Clippers to the Barclay Center. The horrific season
of the Nets appears to be turning around. An injury plagued run resulted in a recent streak of 3-
12 SU, 4-11 ATS. Coinciding with the return of D. Will and Pierce, the Nets have won 2 straight.
Albeit, only Milwaukee and Boston. Only Terry and Kirilenko remain on the sidelines for this game
and you know Pierce and KG will bring huge efforts against their former coach. Clipper depth
compromised in this brutal scheduling spot with loss of key cogs Reddick, Barnes, and Bullock. No
surprise to this bureau that the Nets pull the upset.

So let me get this straight--the largest line between these two over the past 10 meetings was 9
and marked the only time it was above 7! Additionally, the last 6 meetings were decided by less
than tonight's line including a month ago when a healthy Denver went to San Diego and barely
covered the 7 point spread BUT now Denver is a 10.5 point fave despite being without Welker??
GET REAL!!! Vegas is telling us they expect a blowout win! And it helps knowing that certain road
teams seeking same season revenge are a PERFECT 0-23 ATS if coming off a SU and ATS win and
on short rest. Here's something else you may find interesting---Rivers is coming off his best game
of the season, a QB rating that is off the charts for him, 137.8, one of the best of his career---
only 4 times this season did he hit 120 or better and the Chargers lost all 4 games following that
performance and to lessor opponents including Oakland and Washington!
