Ohio State at Michigan State: What bettors need to know

Ohio State Buckeyes at Michigan State Spartans (OFF)

Aaron Craft produced two of the best offensive games of his four-year career against Michigan State last season and the Ohio State point guard will try to continue that trend when the No. 3 Buckeyes travel to the No. 4 Spartans for a Big Ten clash Tuesday. Craft scored his career high of 21 points when these teams met in their second conference game last season, and came back with 20 three weeks later when they collided in the conference tournament semifinal. Craft, who has just one other 20-point game in collegiate career, enters this matchup on a roll after earning Big Ten Player of the Week honors for his efforts last week against Purdue and Nebraska.

Michigan State will counter with shooting guard Gary Harris, who has battled an ankle injury that kept him out three games this season, but appears to be on the mend after scoring 26 points in 37 minutes – both season highs – in a 73-56 victory Saturday at Indiana. Michigan State 6-10 forward Adreian Payne poses a possible matchup problem, but will need to get more shot attempts than he did the last two games if he expects to have an impact. Payne, an Ohio native, combined for 11 field-goal attempts and nine points in the last two games after taking double-digit shot attempts and scoring no fewer than 16 in the previous five games.

TV: 9 p.m. ET, ESPN

LINE: The line and total are currently off the board.

ABOUT OHIO STATE (15-0, 8-6 ATS): The Buckeyes have been successful mostly because of their defense. Ohio State is surrendering an average of 54.9 points, tied for third-best in the nation, and has not allowed an opponent to hit the 70-point mark this season, their longest such streak since they went 22 games during the 2010-11 season. Perimeter defense has been a specialty as the Buckeyes are limiting the opposition to 24.3-percent shooting from 3-point distance, the lowest mark in Division I.

ABOUT MICHIGAN STATE (13-1, 7-4-2 ATS): The Spartans are shooting 39.3 from 3-point distance, which puts 38th in the nation. Harris has seen his long-range efficiency drop off this season, but point guard Keith Appling has connected on 47.2 percent of his 3s, up from 32 percent last season and 25 percent the year before. Travis Trice has been nearly as effective from downtown, hitting on 44.4 percent of his tries from beyond the arc.

TRENDS:

* Under is 4-0 in the last four meetings.
* Home team is 3-0-1 ATS in the last four meetings.
* Ohio State is 4-1-1 ATS in its last six meetings at Michigan State.
* Underdog is 6-2-1 ATS in the last nine meetings.

TIP-INS:

1. Ohio State’s bench has outscored the opposition’s reserves 325-177 this season.

2. Craft, who averages 4.9 assists, needs 39 to pass Bruce Douglas of Illinois (1982-86) to become the Big Ten’s all-time leader.

3. Michigan State F Matt Costello could return to the starting lineup in his third game back after missing four in December with mononucleosis.

Spurs at Grizzlies: What bettors need to know

San Antonio Spurs at Memphis Grizzlies (+5.5, 196.5)

The San Antonio Spurs' frontcourt depth is about to be tested - a notion that's all too familiar for their next opponent. The Spurs will be without center Tiago Splitter when they travel to Memphis on Tuesday to face the Grizzlies, who are still without big man Marc Gasol. Memphis has gone 8-12 since losing Gasol to a sprained knee to slip 3 1/2 games behind eighth-place Dallas in the Western Conference.

The Spurs whipped the Clippers 116-92 on Saturday, but their fourth win in five games came at a price as Splitter was lost for three-to-five weeks with a sprained right shoulder. "Very, very tough," veteran forward Tim Duncan told the San Antonio Express-News. "It's going to be a big loss for us. He's been playing great for us all year." If the Grizzlies can start winning at home - they're 7-11 at FedEx Forum - they might be able to make a charge with six of their next seven games on their own floor.

TV: 8 p.m. ET, FSN Southwest (San Antonio), SportSouth (Memphis)

LINE: The Grizzlies opened as 5.5-point home dogs. The total opened at 196.5.

COVERS POWER RANKINGS: San Antonio (-13.8) - Memphis (-5) + home court (-3) = San Antonio -5.8

ABOUT THE SPURS (26-8, 18-16 ATS): San Antonio boasts one of the most productive benches in the league but it's getting thin in the post with Splitter out. Second-year center Aron Baynes likely will need to pick up extra minutes to spell Boris Diaw (9.4 points, 3.5 rebounds), who is expected to be back after missing Saturday's game with strep throat. Fortunately for the Spurs, they don't count on much offensive output from the center position thanks to five other players averaging double digits in scoring with Tony Parker (17.7 points, 6.2 assists) and Tim Duncan (14.2 points, 9.5 rebounds) leading the way.

ABOUT THE GRIZZLIES (15-18, 13-19-1 ATS): Memphis dominated the second half of a 112-84 win at Detroit on Sunday and has won five of its last eight following a five-game skid. The Grizzlies certainly miss Gasol, especially at the defensive end, but they still have a strong inside-outside duo with point guard Mike Conley (17.2 points, 6.3 assists) and bruiser Zach Randolph (17.1 points, 10.5 rebounds). Jon Leuer has shown signs of becoming a bigger contributor at the offensive end - the third-year forward matched his career high with 23 points against the Pistons.

TRENDS:

* Spurs are 4-0 ATS in the last four meetings.
* Spurs are 4-0 ATS in the last four meetings in Memphis.
* Over is 5-1 in the last six meetings.
* Road team is 4-1 ATS in the last five meetings.

BUZZER BEATERS:

1. The Grizzlies reportedly have reached a deal to send G Jerryd Bayless to Boston in exchange for G Courtney Lee.

2. Spurs G Danny Green, a 39.4 percent shooter from 3-point range, is 3-for-19 from beyond the arc over the last four games.

3. Memphis G Tony Allen (hand) sat out against Detroit and is day-to-day.

Baylor at Iowa State: What bettors need to know

Baylor Bears at Iowa State Cyclones (-7.5, OFF)

Two of the premier power forwards in the nation face off when No. 7 Iowa State hosts No. 9 Baylor in a Big 12 showdown Tuesday night. Melvin Ejim is averaging 17.7 points and 7.6 rebounds for the Cyclones and the 6-6 senior has led the way with four double-doubles this season. Cory Jefferson is a 6-9 senior for the Bears who’s averaging 14.2 points and 8.3 rebounds with five double-doubles.

Baylor should benefit from its size advantage with 7-1 center Isaiah Austin occupying the middle and 6-8 forward Rico Gathers averaging 7.9 points and 7.8 rebounds off the bench. Iowa State does well with the size it has, as 6-6 forward Dustin Hogue is averaging 12.6 points and 9.6 rebounds and 6-4 guard DeAndre Kane does it all with 15 points, 7.1 rebounds and 6.1 assists per game. Kane won Big 12 Player of the Week honors the last two weeks and an Iowa State player has won the award in six of nine weeks overall.

TV: 7 p.m. ET, ESPN2

LINE: The line opened with Iowa State as 7.5-point faves. The total is currently off the board.

ABOUT BAYLOR (12-1, 3-4 ATS): A key for the Bears could be the contributions from starting guards Brady Heslip and Kenny Chery. Heslip is shooting 47.9 percent from beyond the arc, which has helped open up things up on the interior, and Chery is second on the team at 11.5 points, though he’s coming off back-to-back games in single digits for the first time this season. A wild card for the Bears could be 6-7 sophomore forward Taurean Prince, who is coming off consecutive games in double figures for the first time in his career.

ABOUT IOWA STATE (13-0, 8-3 ATS): Prince could find himself matched up against another 6-7 sophomore forward in Georges Niang, who is second in scoring for the Cyclones at 15.9. Niang has scored at least 14 points in each of the last seven games and presents a challenge because of his ability to score from inside and outside. Monte Morris, a freshman guard, will be looking to reach double figures in scoring in three straight games for the first time this season.

TRENDS:

* Over is 4-0 in the last four meetings.
* Home team is 6-1 ATS in the last seven meetings.
* Baylor is 1-4 ATS in the last five meetings.
* Baylor is 0-7 ATS in the last seven meetings at Iowa State.

TIP-INS:

1. The Cyclones can set a program record with their 14th consecutive victory.

2. Iowa State has had at least four players score in double figures in every game this season.

3. Prince scored 15 first-half points all of last season, but combined for 26 first-half points in the last two games.

Raptors at Pacers What bettors need to know

Toronto Raptors at Indiana Pacers (-7.5, 187)

The Indiana Pacers have lost only once in their last eight games, but that defeat came at the hands of the Toronto Raptors, who visit for a rematch Tuesday. Indiana boasts the best overall (27-6) and home (16-1) records in the NBA and has won two straight since a 95-82 loss at Toronto on New Year's Day. The Raptors have won nine of their last 12 to surge to the top of the Atlantic Division, and they've claimed seven of their last nine on the road.

The Pacers weren't themselves in the last meeting, committing a season-high 23 turnovers en route to their lowest point total of the campaign. "We're going to go out there and battle with the best of them," Raptors leading scorer DeMar DeRozan told reporters after the game. "We don't care who is out there in front of us. We understand that they are going to throw a punch and we're going to throw punches back." Toronto was unable to land another big blow Sunday, losing 102-97 at Miami to snap a five-game winning streak and drop back to .500.

TV: 7 p.m. ET, FSN Indiana

LINE: The Pacers opened as 7.5-point faves. The total opened at 187.

COVERS POWER RANKINGS: Toronto (-6) - Indiana (-14.3) + home court (-3) = Indiana -11.3

ABOUT THE RAPTORS (16-16, 18-14 ATS): Toronto has been a vastly different team since trading Rudy Gay to Sacramento, playing more cohesively at both ends of the floor. DeRozan (21.1 points) has taken over as the primary scorer, but point guard Kyle Lowry (15.7 points, 7.6 assists) continues to enjoy a breakout season. The one element the Raptors lack is a dominant big man, though second-year center Jonas Valanciunas (10.7 points, 8.3 rebounds) and veteran forward Amir Johnson (11.6 points, 7.1 rebounds) have played well since Gay's departure.

ABOUT THE PACERS (27-6, 23-10 ATS): Indiana likely can't get away with the sort of sluggish effort it gave in an 82-78 win over a Cleveland team without star Kyrie Irving on Sunday. The Pacers can survive rough nights at the offensive end, though, because of the league's best team defense - they allow an NBA-low 88.6 points per game and lead the league in opponents' field-goal percentage (41.1) and opponents' 3-point field-goal percentage (32.3). Paul George (23.2 points, 6.1 rebounds) leads a balanced attack with all five starters averaging double-digit scoring and reserve Danny Granger (8.9 points) getting stronger each game as he works his way back from a string of injuries.

TRENDS:
* Raptors are 4-0 ATS in the last four meetings in Indiana.
* Under is 5-1 in the last six meetings.
* Underdogs are 4-1 ATS in the last five meetings.
* Road team is 6-1 ATS in the last seven meetings.

BUZZER BEATERS:
1. Lowry has recorded six or more assists in a career-best 24 consecutive games, the longest streak in the NBA this season and three shy of Jose Calderon's franchise record.

2. Pacers C Roy Hibbert is averaging 18 points in two meetings with Toronto this season, 5.5 above his season average.

3. Raptors F Tyler Hansbrough (ankle) sat out against Miami and is not expected to play against Indiana.

Washington over *Charlotte by 4
Great as underdogs, the Bobcats were 3-6 ATS laying points this season. This is
Charlotte's only home game during a two-week period so the Bobcats may not be
fully focused having just returned from the West Coast and then getting ready to fly
out for two more away contests. WASHINGTON 98-94.

*Cleveland over Philadelphia by 5
Kyrie Irving came into the final days of December on a streak of scoring 20 or more
points in eight of his last 10 games. The 76ers hosted Minnesota on Monday and were
2-12 ATS in their last 14 games through Dec. 28. CLEVELAND 106-101.

*Indiana over Toronto by 7
The Raptors are more than capable of springing an upset having held Oklahoma City
to less than 100 points in a road victory against the Thunder on Dec. 22. Toronto is
a strong rebounding team and have improved its defense enough to rank in the top
10 in fewest points per game. INDIANA 92-85.

*Miami over New Orleans by 12
Dealing with inflated lines, the Heat have failed to cover in 10 of their first 16 home
games. Miami should be motivated for this matchup, however, since they won't be
home for another two weeks. MIAMI 104-92.

*New York over Detroit over 2
Not too many teams can claim to have beaten the Heat and Pacers on the road like
Detroit has. The Pistons, however, were in a 3-8-1 ATS rut through Dec. 29. NEW
YORK 101-99.

**PREFERRED
San Antonio over *Memphis by 15
The Grizzlies have regressed too much to stay competitive with the Spurs with only
point guard Mike Conley playing consistently well. Memphis was 5-14 ATS in its last
19 home games through last Sunday. SAN ANTONIO 106-91.

Phoenix over *Chicago by 3
Not only do the Suns have a strong backcourt with Goran Dragic and Eric Bledsoe
to take advantage of Chicago's banged-up guards, but Miles Plumlee has stepped up
to provide an inside presence. The Bulls had failed to cover in 12 of their last 17 games
through Dec. 29. PHOENIX 94-91.

Golden State over *Milwaukee by 1
Andrew Bogut returns to his former home where he could be greeted by an improved
Milwaukee front line that has Ersan Ilysavoa and Larry Sanders back in the lineup.
This marks Golden State's sixth of seven consecutive road games. GOLDEN STATE
106-105.

*Dallas over Los Angeles Lakers by 8
The Lakers have defeated Dallas nine of the last 11 times, but minus Kobe Bryant
don't have the scoring weapons to keep up with Dirk Nowitzki and Monta Ellis.
DALLAS 109-101.

**PREFERRED
*Denver over Boston by 16
Boston entered the new year having lost six of nine matchups to Western Conference
teams. The Celtics can't be trusted out of their mediocre Eastern Conference comfort
zone. The Celtics did beat the Nuggets at home. But the revenge-seeking Nuggets
have beaten the Celtics each of the past four years at home, winning by an average of
more than nine points per game. DENVER 102-86.

Oklahoma City over *Utah by 8
Utah has failed to cover five of the past seven times it has been a home 'dog. Trey
Burke is learning on the go mixing good and bad shooting nights. OKLAHOMA
CITY 101-93.

Portland over *Sacramento by 4
Sacramento entered the last Sunday of December having covered 10 of 14 times versus
opponents with a .600 or better winning percentage. PORTLAND 101-97.

Transferring from Denver in the Sun Belt, the ability of Baylor guard Royce O’Neale

*3 Star NBA 100% Angle Total* The Toronto Raptors have been very competitive of late, and their newfound competitiveness starts with a much improved defense. Indiana is the best defensive team in the NBA. I expect some good defense to be played when these two teams get together. Both of these teams are also in the bottom 7 in the league in terms of pace, so the pace should stay slow.

The under is 4-0 in the Raptors last 4. The under is 4-0 in the Raptors last 4 road games. The under is 4-0 in their last 4 against the East. The under is 7-0 in their last 7 against the NBA Central. The under is 4-0 in their last 4 following an ATS win. The under is 4-0 in the Pacers last 4 games. A 27-0 angle. Take the under.

*3 Star NBA Late Night BAILOUT* The Portland Blazers have been the most efficient offense in the NBA this year. Portland piles up the points against everyone, and the Kings defense is atrocious. After slowing the game down early this year, the Kings are running as much as anyone in the NBA right now. Sacramento has been playing a bunch of very high scoring games lately.

The over is 4-0 in the Blazers last 4 against the Pacific. The over is 4-0 in the Kings last 4 against a team with a win percentage of 60% or higher. The over is 6-0 in the Kings last 6 games following a loss. The over is 5-0 in their last 5 following an ATS loss. The over is 8-1 in their last 9 against the West. The over is 7-1 in their last 8 after allowing 100 points or more last game. A 34-2 angle. Take the over.

The Wizards hit the road after losing all three games on their recent homestand against the Mavericks, Raptors, and Warriors. Washington has played much better on the road and much better against sub .500 teams. That situation comes about tonight at Charlotte, as the Bobcats return home following a 1-4 road trip. Charlotte goes back on the road on Wednesday to take on Minnesota, so this is a tough scheduling spot for the Bobcats. Washington has won four of its last five on the road, as I'll back the Wizards tonight.

The Nuggets are coming off consecutive wins over the Grizzlies and Lakers, as Denver looks to avenge a road loss at Boston from earlier this season. The Celtics have lost four straight games, and seven of their last eight contests, while the offense has struggled to score recently. Denver's defense has been atricious recently, allowing at least 100 points in eight of the last 10 games, while posting a 1-6 ATS record the last seven games as a home favorite. I'll back the Celtics here to cash at Denver.

The Kings are playing with double-revenge tonight against the Blazers, as Sacramento tries to end a two-game skid after losing as a home favorite to the 76ers and Bobcats. Portland was upset by Philadelphia on Saturday as 12-point home favorites, while going 1-4 ATS in the last five road contests. The Kings have fared well as a home underdog this season, posting a 6-3 ATS record in that role. I'll take the Kings tonight as a home 'dog to cash against the Blazers.

The Grizzlies return home from a terrific 2-1 SU and 3-0 ATS road trip, but are 0-6 SU/ATS as a home underdog this season. The Spurs are 7-1 SU/ATS in their last eight road contests, as I'll back San Antonio here to knock off Memphis on the road.

Syracuse travels to Virginia Tech tonight for their second ACC game, hoping that they give a better effort than they got this weekend in their 49-44 win over Miami. The Orange come into the game tonight at 14-0 on the season while the Hokies are 8-5 on the campaign. Even though they are still rebuilding their program, there are some things to like about what the Hokies are doing. Virginia Tech ranks sixth nationally from behind the 3-point line, shooting 42.5% on the season. They have also been tough on the defensive end, allowing an average of 62.3 ppg, 37.6 field-goal % and 28.5 3-point % in their last seven games. Syracuse has really struggled shooting from behind the arc over their past several games and only shot 36.2% from the field in the Miami game. It appears as though Tech is going to have the advantage on the glass as well, where the Hokies average 41 rebounds a game to Syracuse's 35 boards. While we will admit that Tech hasn't been real competitive with the better teams they have played this season, we think this is a spot tonight where Syracuse will get their best shot and we think they cover this number. The Sharps say...

It was -14 when Wolfpack's plane got to South Bend Monday; State is 2-1 on road, losing by 11 at Cincinnati, winning at Tennessee by 7.

Michigan State-Ohio State are 7-7 in last 14 meetings; Buckeyes are 2-1 in last three visits here- teams split pair of close games in last two Big Dozen tourneys. OSU is 13-0, winning road games by 17 at Marquette, 9 at Purdue; opponents are making 24.3% from arc. Spartans won last six games, opening conference play with 16-17 road wins at Penn State and Indiana- their only loss was North Carolina at home.

Houston won first two AAC games by 4-9 points after couple of weird non-league losses to San Jose/ULL; Cougars are 7-1 at home- they're 0-5 if they allow 72+ points, 10-0 if they allow 70 or less. Cincinnati gave up 55 ppg in winning first two AAC games by 8-16 points, with a big win at Memphis Saturday. Bearcats force turnovers 25.1% of time, #7 on country- they play great defense, can struggle with the ball.

Vanderbilt won last three games with Alabama by 1-4-10 points; they're 3-2 in last five visits here, but are 0-2 on road this year, losing by in OT at Butler by 8, at Texas by 6- they're 0-4 vs top 100 teams. Alabama is 0-6 vs top 100 teams, with all six losses by 10 or less points. Tide lost last two home games to Wichita/Xavier- they're 1-6 in games decided by 9 or less points.

Creighton won its first two Big East games by 18-13 points; they're #3 in country, making 42.7% from arc; Bluejays are 3-0 road, with wins by . 4-17-3 points. DePaul scored 55 ppg in losing first two league games by 7-10 points; Blue Demons are amazingly bad 9-95 in last 103 league games; they've turned ball over 20.7% of time. DePaul scored average of 57.8 ppg in their last four games, not good.

Syracuse is 14-0, winning by 5 at St John's in only road game- they won ACC debut 49-44 over Miami at home Saturday (trailed by by 5 at 6:11 mark)- they allowed 54.2 ppg in last five games. Virginia Tech is 1-2 vs top 100 teams, losing to Michigan State by 19, VCU by 30, winning by 5 over West Virginia. Orange are #2 in countery, forcing turnovers 25.9% of time. Hokies are #6 in country, making 42.5% from arc.

3-Unit Play. #534. Take Iowa State -6.5 over Baylor (Tuesday @ 7pm est).

Fred Hoiberg just consistently seems to have Scott Drew's number. Iowa State has beat and covered against Baylor the last 3 times and 4 of times (2 of the last 3 in which they were favored). I have Iowa State as a top as a top 15 offensive team and they come off a big win against Texas Tech on the road winning by 9 points and they have already beat Iowa this year at home who is an even better team than Baylor. If you take a look at the power rankings, you will notice that Iowa State beat an even better Michigan team ranked 18th in most power rankings by 7 and given the familiarity that Coach Hoiberg and Iowa State with Baylor - not to mention that Baylor is ranked in the top 30 in most power rankings, this is a good opportunity for Iowa State to likely win this game by about 9-10 points this evening. This is not to mention this is a decent public fade as well as most of the public is on the underdog to boot. They key difference in this contest will likely be due to the fact Iowa State is 2nd in the nation in turnover percentage with Baylor being outside the top 200. And, in a conference game and on the road at that, the possessions for Baylor will likely be extremely key here. Baylor is also outside the top 250 in the country in field goal percentage as well whereas Iowa State is top 140 in the country in field goal percentage. The Cyclones are 7-2 ATS when facing a team with a winning percentage greater than 60% this year and 6-2 ATS when facing a team with a winning road record as well.

Indian Cowboy's Picks For NBA Basketball

6-Unit Play. #515. Take Golden State -10 over Milwaukee (Tuesday @ 8:05pm est).

Did you know the Golden State Warriors have lost to the Milwaukee Bucks the last 3 times they have played them? Note the Warriors lost to this team both times in 2013 and in lost to them in 2012 to boot as well which means they have not beat the Bucks since 2011. I'm sure that is not lost on Coach Jackson as he faces this team today on the road. Public play or not, motivation is always key for these teams in the NBA as in different situations, different teams are able to step up. The Warriors have traditionally done well in revenge games such as beating the Magic recently on the road in a similar situation as the Magic beat this team twice last year in a sweep and the Warriors got their revenge this year beating them as -6.5 favorites which we were on. The Warriors recently got their revenge on the Heat as well winning on the road and have put together 9 straight wins in a row to boot as this road trip has been a positive one for this team. With the 9 game win streak, the Warriors have solidified their standing in the Western Conference standings this year at 23-13. With Milwaukee having lost to the likes of the Timberwolves (who were highly motivated in that game) by a score of 117-95 its not far fetched to imagine them losing to a motivated Warriors team by that margin here. The Warriors are 7-3 ATS against the Eastern Conference of late as well as being 4-1 ATS against teams with a winning percentage of less than 40% at home (meaning the Warriors are covering road contests as big chalk). If the Bucks were truly expected to do well this game, the line would be more like +7.5 or even +5.5 to get the public to bait on the Warriors. But the Warriors are expected to do well and we have this game by about a 17 point differential tonight as note the Warriors are also 1-8 ATS in their last 9 contests against the Western Conference as well.

Game: Philadelphia at Cleveland (7:00 PM Eastern)
Pick: Philadelphia +4.5 (-105) at 5Dimes

There was nothing pretty about the last time the Philadelphia 76ers stepped on the floor. They were beaten badly by Minnesota by 31 points. That will have bettors running away from this team, but hold on. Teams that are bad defensively and allow over 103 points per game, and are off a 20-point loss or more actually come back strong to cover 56% of their next games (over 500 games in the sample). Good or bad, professional athletes don't like to be crushed, and usually come back with a strong effort. The Cavaliers put a lot of energy in their last game here vs. an elite Indiana team, and disappointingly, came up 4 points short, so their focus here vs the lowly Sixers should be lacking. The Cavs sport just a 6-20-1 ATS mark when playing on one day of rest in their last 27. Play on Philadelphia.

6-Unit Play. Take #501 Washington (Pk) over Charlotte (7 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 7)
This was going to be our "Underdog Game of the Month". When the game opened the spread was Washington +1.5 but the line has moved to now where it is a 'Pick' at most books. I still like the play, underdog or not.

I have had this game pegged for a few days now and I was hoping that Washington was going to come out as a dog. Funny that the line opened as a pick, but it is going the wrong way. It is headed toward Charlotte just do to the fact that they are at home. This works out perfect for us. I wanted Washington to begin with and I was hoping they would get points as we have had great success lately playing dogs. The Wizards will easily win this game outright. This game has a 6-8 point Wizards win written all over it. Washington is 11-1 ATS in their last 12 games versus teams with losing S.U. records. Washington is coming off a loss both ATS and S.U. The Wizards are 7-2 ATS in their last nine games following an ATS loss and 7-3 ATS in their last 10 games following a S.U. loss. This is the Bobcats first home game after a long five-game road trip, and following this game they will head right back out on the road. This is just a tough spot to get up for a game as people are more focused on the Carolina Panthers than they are the Charlotte Bobcats. The stadium shouldn't be full and the fans won't be an influence tonight.

JASON SHARPE
5 Unit Play Take #509 Detroit +2.5 over New York (7:35pm est):
The Detroit Pistons know this is a desperate time as they have to stop the losing skid right now.
After what many called their best practice of the season late last week and after a much needed mid-season rest, the Pistons came back off nearly a one week layoff and were embarrassed by
the Memphis Grizzlies in their last game. It was Detroit's fourth straight loss and sixth in their last
seven games overall. It was so bad after the game that head coach Maurice Cheeks held a team
meeting with the players and many felt a lot of good things were discussed and hopefully ironed
out. This team has enough talent to beat the lesser teams of the league and for the most part
they have done that this season. If you go back and look at the teams below a .400 win
percentage this season (the group the New York Knicks are in), the Piston are 10-1 against them
overall. That speaks volumes about where this team is at as it's obvious they are clearly better
than this lower level group but that's really it for the Pistons.
As for the New York Knicks, this is a bad basketball team who despite having won two of their last
three games are are still an ugly 11-22 on the year. The Knicks have shown almost no home court
advantage at 4-12 this year and sport the 2nd worst home record in the NBA. Even worse than
that is the Knicks are 3-13 ATS their last 16 home games also. Add in the fact that the Pistons
are a decent 8-8 on the road this year which is the 2nd best away mark of the 17 teams below
.500 in the NBA this year and are 15-7-2 their last 24 road contests ATS. Detroit is also 20-6-1
versus the number their last 27 games against teams with a losing home record. They have also
cleaned up against teams form the Atlantic division by going 8-1-1 ATS their last ten games
against them.
Look for a full out effort here from the Pistons here. Take Detroit in this one.

3 Unit Play Take #513 Phoenix -1 over Chicago (8:05pm est):
You have to wonder here about the Chicago Bulls mindset as they come into this game playing
arguably their best basketball of the season only to pull off a big salary dump trade today and more or less tell their fans and players that this season is all but over. There's no doubt it was the
right move going forward for Chicago but it makes them a worse team right now and especially so
for this game. The Bulls have struggled in step up in class games versus decent teams as they are
just 2-5 ATS their last seven versus the Western Conference. Most of their wins have been
against the Boston, Brooklyn, Cleveland types. When matched up against these 2nd tier Western
Conference squads like the Suns, the Bulls have gotten hammered losing by 22 points to Dallas at
home and by 15 at Houston just recently.
The Suns remain a very solid 20-12 and playing winning basketball for most of this year. They
have cleaned up on below .500 teams like Chicago going 8-1 their last nine games versus them.
They are also a very strong 23-12 ATS this season and remain one of the most undervalued
teams in all of the NBA. Not only are they 5-1 against the lesser Eastern Conference this season
(not counting powerful Miami) but all five wins have been easy victories of seven points or more.
Take Phoenix in this one.

double-dime bet - 506 IND / 505 TOR - UNDER 187.0
2** Play on: UNDER the TOTAL
Game Two:
Indiana has been one of the strongest UNDER teams so far in the 2013/2014 season. The Pacers
come in with an overall record of 12-21 O/U. And that's NUMBER ONE in the entire league at 64%
Unders. That includes 4-13 O/U at home (76% Unders / 181.8 ppg). They've really putt he clamps
down on defense as of late... going a PERFECT 0-4 O/U in their last four games (only 171.3 total
ppg!).... and 1-7 O/U in their last 8 overall. On the flip side, Toronto's OU results are not quite as
one-sided in terms of overall numbers. But the Raptors are trending 'Under' BIG-TIME as of late.
Toronto comes into tonight's game on a current 0-4 O/U streak in their last 4 games (182.5
combined ppg). And since Christmas, the Raptors have gone 2-6 O/U. Just like our first game, this
Tor / Indy SERIES has strong OU tendencies (0-3 O/U last three meetings / 175.3 total ppg / 1-5
O/U last six).
Both teams last played on Sunday. So they each come in with ONE day of rest.
0-7 O/U since late December: All home favorites of < 10 pts (Indiana) in a '1/1' REST situation...
when the OU line is < 197 points.
Toronto come in on a current ATS roll. The Raptors have covered the spread in six STRAIGHT
games.
0-8-1 O/U since late December: All EASTERN CONFERENCE teams playing off 3 or more ATS wins
in a row (Toronto).
Indiana comes in off a division win over Cleveland in which they held the Cavaliers to just 78
points.
1-8 O/U since mid-December: All NBA teams who allowed LESS THAN (<) 80 points in their last
game (Pacers) when the OU line is < 194 points.

OC Dooley:“2 UNIT” NHL LATE NIGHT UNDERDOG (Wild +180 at Kings in a 10:35 eastern faceoff): This is a unique REVENGE wager as these two teams met way back on opening night in Minnesota where Los Angeles escaped with a triumph decided by a ONE goal margin. Late this evening is the rematch out west where the Wild are attempting to WIN for the fourth time in the last five visits to Los Angeles. Even though Minnesota is 2-0 ever since putting an end to a lengthy six-game losing streak, admittedly the deck appears stacked against the Wild who just lost points-leader Mikko Koivu (broken ankle) to injury. On the flipside the Kings finally have back star goaltender Jonathan Quick from a groin injury that caused him to miss 24 different starts. But my research indicates that in the past three years when off a “margin” home victory where the team triumphed by “two plus” goals in margin, Minnesota has gone an excellent 12-3 in the ensuing contest

Greg Shaker | CBB Side Tuesday, 1/7/2014 7:00 PM
526 Rhode Island +7 Bookmaker.com vs 525 St. Louis

Analysis:
The Line: This line has been up and down dropping to to 6.5 and has seen 7.5 as well but back to the original number at this writing. My best guess is that it will settle lower than what it is not but fairly stable throughout the betting window.

Why We Bet It: There is no doubt that the Rams have been a major pain in the ass for St Louis with 5 consecutive straight-up wins dating back to the 2010 season. They actually match-up well again this year with this team and even have the better bench which is important as we get into conference play. St Louis has another quality team this year, winning a lot of games both at home and on the road. But road numbers have not been as good as when they play on their court where they simply take care of the ball better. That is the primary reason why they are just 2-4 ATS when traveling this year, different results in previous years. This has been a Dog series the last few years and it has also been an UNDER series. That gives us even more value with these points tonight. Other factors lend itself to our number being St Louis -3.3 and that's good enough for me to play it on what will have to be a 3 Possession cover by the road conference team here..

Biggest Concerns: No major concerns here except for the fact that we would be getting a better number had URI not beat LSU just 3 days ago.

Added Notes: You can bet this one for the Full amount down to +6 and decrease your wager after that..

See spot. See spot bet: This week's best spot bet opportunities
By JASON LOGAN

Spot bets are classic handicapping practices that have proven profitable no matter what sport you’re betting. Whether it’s a team looking past this week’s opponent, one coming off a hard-fought victory, or a rough patch of schedule, bettors can find value picking their spots.

Lookahead spot

The Clemson Tigers need to be careful not to look past this Thursday’s home date with the Florida State Seminoles. Lurking behind FSU is a huge matchup with the Duke Blue Devils in the Littlejohn Coliseum Saturday.

The Tigers have stumbled against some of the tougher competition this season and a win over the Blue Devils could pave the way for a solid ACC run. However, Clemson needs to overcome a Seminoles squad that defeated Clemson three times last year – 1-2 ATS – including a 73-69 victory over the Tigers in the ACC tournament.

Letdown spot

The Chicago Blackhawks are trying to hang on to the Central Division lead but have come up short when trying to string wins together. Chicago has alternated wins and losses in its last six, heading into Wednesday’s home game against the Rangers, and have a busy weekend up ahead.

The Blackhawks have a monster matchup in Montreal Saturday night, then jump back on a plane to the Windy City to take on the Edmonton Oilers Sunday evening. Playing in Montreal is always a challenge, thanks to the lively crowds at the Bell Centre. Chicago runs the risk of taking the feisty Oilers lightly in a drastic change of scenery Sunday.

Schedule spot

The Houston Rockets fuel up the engines for an extended East Coast road trip. Western Conference teams have rolled their Eastern counterparts this season, however, those wins haven’t exactly produces pointspread profits.

Houston is 10-2 SU versus teams from the East but just 6-5-1 ATS. Those earnings shrink on the road, going 2-2 SU and ATS in Eastern venues heading into this trip. The Rockets visit the Atlanta Hawks Friday, the Washington Wizards Saturday, and Boston Celtics Monday, before heading to New Orleans to take on Western Conference rival New Orleans. Houston is only 8-8 ATS on the road overall this season.
