Game of the Day: Penguins at Rangers

Pittsburgh Penguins at New York Rangers (+101, 5)

With questioning his postseason performance becoming a rite of spring in some circles, Marc-Andre Fleury has quelled that talk by posting back-to-back shutouts to help the Pittsburgh Penguins seize a 2-1 advantage in its Eastern Conference series versus the New York Rangers. The Metropolitan Division champions look to push the Rangers to the brink of elimination when they visit Madison Square Garden for Game 4 on Wednesday. After recording 22 saves in a 3-0 triumph in Game 2 on Sunday, Fleury turned aside 35 shots the following day to register his franchise-best eighth career postseason shutout.

"I've won a lot of hockey games with Marc-Andre Fleury in net, during the regular season and when our team won a Stanley Cup in 2009," Penguins coach Dan Bylsma said after his team's 2-0 victory in Game 3. "I don't know who the doubters are and when the questions started about his play ... but I can tell you he wins hockey games for us." Traditionally a punchless power play goes a long way toward losing hockey games as well, with New York failing on all 13 opportunities with the man advantage in the series and 34 straight overall.

TV: 7:30 p.m. ET, NBCSN, CBC, RDS

LINE HISTORY: Books opened the Rangers anywhere from +101 to -110. The total opened at 5.

INJURY REPORT: Penguins - D Brooks Orpik (Out indefinitely, undisclosed). Rangers - LW Chris Kreider (Out indefinitely, hand).

WHAT BOOKS SAY: "The Pens are coming off back-to-back shutouts and look to go up 3-1 tonight. Sidney Crosby finally snapped his goalless streak in these playoffs which can only mean good things for the Pens. We are seeing good two-way action on this game as our players are not counting out the Rangers just yet." Michael Stewart, CarbonSports.ag.

WHAT SHARPS SAY: "The Penguins have stifled the Rangers over the last two games, outscoring them 5-0 while seizing back control of this series. I'm not about to pronounce them series victors after just three games though. The Rangers were in a miserable 5-in-7 scheduling spot on Monday, but still carried the play for much of the game. I expect them to break through against Marc-Andre Fleury on Wednesday. The Blueshirts have opened as the home underdog in this one, but don't be surprised if roles reverse as puck drop approaches." Covers Expert Sean Murphy.

ABOUT THE PENGUINS: Sidney Crosby tucked the puck past Henrik Lundqvist on Monday, the first time the Pittsburgh captain had done so since helping Canada claim the gold against Sweden at the Sochi Olympics. His country's allegiance notwithstanding, Crosby snapped a 13-game postseason goal-scoring drought and also lightened the load of any undo pressure. "It's nice not having to answer (media questions) about it, to be honest," the Hart Trophy and Ted Lindsay Award finalist said. "It's one game. In the playoffs you have to be able to turn the page quickly. It’s nice to finally score."

ABOUT THE RANGERS: Coach Alain Vigneault took a shot at the league's powers-that-be for putting his club in position to play five games in seven nights, becoming the first team to do so in the postseason since 1989. "We were forced to play a stupid schedule, and I'm real proud of how our guys handled it," Vigneault said. The Rangers could receive a boost from the potential return of Chris Kreider, who has missed the last 19 games following surgery on his left hand. Vigneault said he would talk to the doctors before answering any questions on Kreider's availability.

TRENDS:

* Over is 8-2-1 in the last 11 meetings in New York.
* Penguins are 12-4 in the last 16 meetings.
* Rangers are 11-2 in their last 13 Wednesday games.
* Over is 11-5-1 in Penguins last 17 games playing on 1 days rest.

COVERS CONSENSUS: 54 percent of wagers on Covers Consensus are coming on the Rangers.

Philadelphia Phillies vs. Toronto Blue Jays (MLB) - 7:05 PM EDT Premium Pick

Pick: Total: 8.0/-115 Under

TRIPLE PERFECT MLB

TOTAL OF THE WEEK

On Wednesday the MLB Inter league totals system is on the under in the Philadelphia at Toronto game. Rotation numbers 973/974 at 7:05 eastern. The inter league venue switch and last nights results put into effect a solid totals system that pertains to the under as these to move from Philly to Toronto. We want to play the under for road dogs off a home favored loss and scored 5 or more runs, vs an opponent that is off a road dog win that scored 5 or more runs. These games have been dead unders with just omen game going over since 2004. The Phillies have gone under all 7 times vs lefties and all 3 times as a road dog from +100 to +125. The Phillies have also stayed under in 4 of 5 on the road off a 1 run home loss. Toronto has stayed under in 4 of 5 at home off a road dog win and scored 5 or more runs. The Pitching has Buehrle who has allowed just 5 earned runs in 22 innings in his last 3 starts vs the Phillies. C. Lee has started to catch fire and has been effective of late with a 1.71 era in his last 3 starts. Based on the systems angles and Pitching indicators we will recommend the under tonight.

AAA’s *Clippers/Thunder* TOTAL BLOCKBUSTER! Perfect In This Series!
Game
Wednesday May 07, 06:35 PM
(711) Los Angeles Clippers
(712) Oklahoma City Thunder
Pick
Under

This is an 8* “TOTAL BLOCKBUSTER” on the “under” between the LA Clippers and the Oklahoma City Thunder. AAA Sports Has: UNDER 213.5 Worst Case Scenario Line: 214.5 As you can see, I jumped on an early line thinking that it would move the other way, however that wasn’t the case. The public was quick to jump on the “over” and you can now get 214.5 or even better. I still like this play at 213.5 as I expect each team to play with a much more concerted effort on the defensive end of the floor after the Game 1 shootout. LA jumped out to a quick start and never looked back in Game 1, pulling away for the 122-105 win. I had the Clippers in that one. I’m having a hard time getting a read on the spread in Game 2 though as I simply can’t see the home side allowing that type of offensive outburst to happen again. Note that the Clippers got eight 3-pointers made by point guard Chris Paul, and that’s a lot, three more than he’s ever made in any NBA game previous. Paul himself knows that type of scoring production is rare: “The next game, I might have 12 points, 10 points, maybe not even that many," he assessed yesterday. "I think I'm one of those people -- whatever it takes to win. I don't care. I'm never going to lead the league in scoring or anything like that. It's just whatever to try to win." In all, LA would hit an unreal 15 of 29 3-point attempts; it also shot 55 percent and committed just nine turnovers. The Thunder know they’re in for a fight, the Clippers are deep and talented: "When Pauls hitting 3s like that, it's tough," OKC forward Nick Collison said on Tuesday. "We can definitely make it more difficult on him than we did (Monday). I think that's where our focus is going to be, is how can we defend better?" I believe this sets up as a natural letdown spot for LA after that near perfect performance in the opener, and when coupled with how aggressive the Thunder will be on the defensive end, I expect this total to ultimately sneak below the posted number once the final horn sounds. Play on the “under”. AAA Sports

Wednesday, May 7

Washington won five of six playoff games, look like stronger team early in this series; home team won five of last six Wizard-Pacer games- Wiz snapped 10-game skid here in Game 1 (4-6 vs spread in last 10). Indiana is 4-4 in playoffs so far; under is 27-19 in their home games this season. Seven of last eight Wizard games went over total- three of four series games this season stayed under the total. Pacers need production from Hibbert, who hasn't scored in three of last four games. ,

Paul was 8-9 from arc, Clippers were 15-29 in easy Game 1 win where Thunder bench shot just 12-39 from floor (starters were combined -76 in Game 1). Clippers are 2-3 vs OC this season, winning two of three here. Over is 9-3 in last 12 series games. Clippers are 26-18 vs spread on road, 1-4 vs spread in last five, but they covered five of last six games as a dog, Six of last seven Thunder games went over total. Ibaka's nine shots were 3rd-most on OC in Game 1- they need a third scorer ro step up.

Wednesday's MLB betting cheat sheet: Wainwright strong versus NL East foes

Low in San Diego

The Padres continued trending as the best Under play in the league, moving to 8-23-3 O/U in Tuesday's 3-1 loss to visiting Kansas City. Not even lower totals have made a difference, as San Diego is now 5-9 O/U with the number set at 6.5. That's the total for Wednesday's rematch with the Royals (+101).

Wainwright Loves the East

St. Louis starter Adam Wainwright has enjoyed success in NL East locales as he leads the Cardinals (-120, 6.5) into Atlanta as one of only two road favorites on the day. Wainwright is 6-1 in his last seven starts in NL East cities, with his only loss coming to the Braves last July 26.

Rick the Slick

Rick Porcello and the Detroit Tigers are whopping -230 favorites against the visiting Houston Astros. Porcello has won his last four starts as a fave of -200 or more, posting a 3.12 ERA in that span while recording quality starts in each outing.

Pitching Notes

* San Francisco Giants right-hander Tim Lincecum has learned to make do without racking up the strikeouts, going 6-1 in his last seven starts in which he has had five or fewer Ks. The Giants (+118, 7) visit the Pittsburgh Pirates.

* Cincinnati Reds hurler Bronson Arroyo has held opponents without a homer in back-to-back starts. He hasn't done so in three straight since the middle of the 2012 season. Arroyo and the Reds (+131, 8.5) will be in tough against the host Boston Red Sox.

Hitting Notes

* Colorado Rockies shortstop Troy Tulowitzki continued his torrid hitting Tuesday, raising his average to .421 with a 3-for-4 performance in a 12-1 drubbing of the Texas Rangers. Tulowitzki has seven multi-hit efforts in the last eight games, helping the Rockies to a 7-1 O/U mark over that stretch.

* Arizona Diamondbacks first baseman Paul Goldschmidt is also on fire, extending his hitting streak to eight games with a 3-for-5 effort in Tuesday's 7-5 win over Milwaukee. Arizona, which is 6-1-1 O/U during that stretch, is a +128 underdog against the Brewers Wednesday.

Total Streak

Minnesota Twins (0-6-0 O/U): The Twins have been getting sensational efforts from their pitching staff, allowing four runs or fewer in each of their past six games. Unfortunately, the offense has gone south at the same time, managing more than three runs just twice over that stretch.

Prop of the Day

Oddsmakers aren't confident in the Oakland Athletics' ability to hang a big number on Seattle ace Felix Hernandez in the opener of their doubleheader. The Athletics are a +160 underdog to have the highest-scoring inning in that game, compared to Seattle at +125 and a tie result at +275.

Key Injuries

* The Baltimore Orioles are expected to place catcher Matt Wieters (elbow) on the disabled list. Wieters is hitting a career-best .341 so far this season, and the Orioles are 6-4 against the moneyline and 5-4-1 O/U in games in which he records more than one hit; they're +125 underdogs against Tampa Bay.

* Philadelphia Phillies shortstop Jimmy Rollins is dealing with a groin injury that has limited him to pinch-hitting duty in consecutive games. The Phillies, who are 0-4 on the year in games in which Rollins has been unavailable to start, are +106 underdogs against Toronto Wednesday.

Weather Watch

* Fans at O.co Coliseum in Oakland will see sunny skies and wind blowing out to right field at 11 mph. Teams averaged 7.98 per game in 41 contests last season with winds blowing east to west at better than 10 mph - only slightly better than the stadium average.

* The latest installment of the Cubs-White Sox rivalry at U.S. Cellular Field will see wind blowing in from right field at 11 mph. Teams averaged just 6.5 runs per game in six games under such conditions a season ago, well below the stadium average of 8.15.

Umpire Note of the Day

The road team is 7-1 in umpire Todd Tichenor's last eight games behind home plate. Tichenor will call the balls and strikes for the game between the Cardinals and the Braves.

Hump day card has 4 Big plays including the 6* 34-0 West Conf. Game of the Year and a 5* triple system early play. In Bases we have an Undefeated Blowout system that wins by over 3 runs per game and the MLB Total of the week with a Big totals system that has lost once in 11 years. NBA Cashes big again. Free MLB system Play below.

On Wednesday the free MLB Road warrior system side is on the St. Louis Cardinals. Game 959 at 7:10 eastern. The Cards fit a solid system that has won 11 of 13 times since 2007 and plays on road favorites that are off a 1 run road loss and had 2 or less run on 5+ hits, vs an opponent off a 1 run home favored win also scoring 2 or less on 5 or more hits if both teams had no more than 1 error. Atlanta snapped a 7 game losing streak last night but now have to face St. Louis ace A, Wainwright and he has a stellar 2.06 road era. He will oppose M. Minor making his 2nd start. Wainwright is 7-2 vs the Braves with a 2.90 era. Minor has a 4.56 career era vs the Cardinals. Look for St. Louis to bounce back in this one. On Hump day we bring the bang with 4 big plays led by the 34-0 6* Western Conference Game of the year in NBA. There is also a triple system 5* in the early game and the MLB Totals of the week from a system that has lost once since 2004. Finally a 5* Blowout system from an undefeated system that's winning by over 3 runs per game. NBA Top play cashes again. All are evening games on Wednesday. Jump on and bring the bang to your book on Hump day. For the free play take St. Louis. GC

Dave Essler MLB Thoughts

Giants-Pirates: I don't think I can take Lincecum. He's not striking people out and has become a big-time flyball pitcher. He has, however, owned the Pirates. Cole is either very ON or very OFF. I lean under, especially at 7.5, unless they ruin the pens even more, although I have not looked at the weather.. My reservation about taking the Giants is that their bags will be packed to fly back to the West Coast, but to play AT the Dodgers.

Dodgers-Nationals: Again, one might wonder if the Dodgers are halfway home, since THEY are flying home after this game to play the Giants. I never trust Haren, and Strasburg has been very good at home since getting shelled early by Atlanta. Total already down to 6.5 at CRIS, so we may not see 7 again. Haren has thrown four straight 100+ pitch games, and there is an angle here, ALL imo dependent on Tuesday night's game.

Mets-Fish: Both Koehler and Wheeler have been a little over valued so I think that lines' about right. Mets packed for Citi Field for three against the Phillies, then the Yankees, so I can see them looking to the next one here. Fish fly to San Diego, but do they care? Probably not. Wheeler just beat the Fish and took 110 pitches to get through 6, but did strike out a lot, so I'd be inclined to think Miami adjusts. Conversely, the Mets just hit Koehler, so I'd think that given his record at home, Miami or nothing.

Arizona-Milwaukee: As bad as Arroyo has been I half-expected this line to be even more than -145. But, he has improved his last two starts. My reservation might be that the Brewers have seen TONS of him when he was with the Reds. Peralta two straight 100+ pitch games for a young kid, and Arizona has hit him around, albeit in limited exposure. I can actually make a case for the D-Backs RL here, and maybe even the ML depending on Tuesday's game and lineups. Arizona has Thursday off I think, so they may play everyone, while the Brewers have the Yankees coming to town, and they also have Wednesday off.

Oakland-Seattle: Almost looks to easy to take Felix on the road at only -130, but the A's have seen as much of him as anyone. I don't trust Straily because the Mariners might have started hitting, again, we'll see what happens Tuesday, but perhaps an over in that one. Or, if Oakland uses much MORE bullpen Tuesday, I could make a great case for the Mariners, maybe even the RL. Let's see lineups.

Altanta-St. Louis: Well, sooner or later the Braves will start hitting, if they didn't/don't Tuesday against Lyons. Minor can give up the long ball, so as much as I have not liked fading the Braves at home, if they don't perform Tuesday, they may not Wednesday. Very dysfunctional team right now and Gonzalez trying TOO many things, IMO. Moved BJ down in the order, Freeman batting second (WTF) and the pitcher batting 8th. Perhaps trying to out think the room rather than play the game.

Houston-Tigers: I know Peacock can suck, but there is simply no chance Porcello is a -240 pitcher right now, and the Astros hit RHP reasonably well. If the weather is half-decent, I can see this going over, actually, in spite of it coming off of 9 at CRIS already. Fine, 8.5 is exponentially better. Maybe the Astros RL as a flyer at a sick price.

Twins-Indians: Nolasco pitched reasonable for a change last time out, but threw a ton of pitches. He was already hammered by the Indians (although the Twins won the game) so that would probably preclude me trying to take the dog here. I do think Salazar is almost always over valued, and with a team that's struggled to hit I can't lay that price. I could CONSIDER the Indians RL depending on Tuesday, and perhaps the over, but the wind direction will be critical IMO.

Rays-Orioles: I always did like Norris in the underdog role, and the Rays pen has been pretty ugly at times, which could be important because Ramos just isn't going to pitch deep (usually). Sad part is that Norris hasn't been great on the road, and several Rays have had their way with him. Just not sure it's always that easy, and since the Trop is famous for "unders" maybe I'd put a marble on the Baltimore RL. Tough one.

King Creole - Dime 968 TAM / 967 BAL Under 7.5 Hilton

The OU line for this one opened at 8 runs on the overnight line... and has been bet down to 7.5 on gameday. The visiting Baltimore Orioles are chugging along in the American League East despite a surprisingly unproductive offense and 2013 home run champion Chris Davis relegated to the disabled list. Not only that, but catcher Matt Wieters will also not play tonight with his current elbow injury. So we already know that the O's are 'not playing with a full deck' tonight. With both teams trending 'Under' as of late, we'll tale a bite this this evening.

Major League Baseball has made some significant UMPIRE changes this season. I count at least 14 new guys who were not Umping at this time last season. Getting a feel for some of these new guys will take a little time. ONE of those new guys will be working 'behind the dish' tonight in Tampa. That would be Man in Blue CLINT FAGAN. He comes in tied with the second best 'UNDER' record on the season (out of 80 Umps)... with an an overall mark of 1-5 O/U. Average runs-per-game when Fagan is working has been a miniscule 5.0. His games this year have seen 6 runs... 4 runs... 1 run... 9 runs... 6 runs... and 4 runs. He's already worked one game at Tropicana Filed this year (Yankees vs Rays on April 20th). And in fact, tonight's starting pitcher for Tampa (Cesar Ramos) ALSO started that previous game vs New York. That game saw only 6 total runs scored and it was Fagan's most strikeouts (24) of any game so far this year. Fagan has gone 9-16 O/U in his career... including 2-8 O/U in all 'Righty vs Lefty' pitching matchups

Speaking of Cesar Ramos, if we eliminate his very first start of the season... he's been very solid. In his last three starts, his ERA is only 1.23. He allowed 1 earned run... 0 earned runs... and 1 earned run in those three starts (ALL of which went UNDER the Total). Tonight will be his first career start vs the Orioles. Daytime ERA: 3.86.... Nighttime ERA: only 1.17.
On the flip side, Bud Norris gets the call for the visiting Orioles. He faced the Rays once last year... and allowed only 1 earned run in 7 innings of work in a 4-1 win (and UNDER). He has similar results as his counterpart this evening. After allowing 5 earned runs in 5 innings in his first start of the year, Norris has looked very solid. His ERA in his last four starts has been just 2.91. Daytime ERA this season: 5.40.... Nighttime ERA: only 2.08. His most recent start saw him allow only 1 earned run in a 5-1 win (and UNDER) versus the Pittsburgh Pirates. THREE of his last four starts have gone 'Under the Total'.

NonStopSportsPicks - 2* Under Pacers/Wizards

Washington/Indy UNDER 186, 2* - Yes I know the OVER hit with ease in game one. And I’m also aware that overs are 4-0 in this round of the playoffs so far. That’s why we’re on the UNDER here. We let the public push up the number and then we can come back and take the UNDER here. I leaned to the Pacers (again), but they’ve accounted for 3-4 of our 10 playoff losses this season and I’m not doing it in game 2 here. So if I think the Pacers win (and cover, which I do), then I think they play defense. And also don’t think Beal will go off again, nor do I think the Wizards will have as many easy looks or go off like they did in game one. Finally, I think the Hibbert woes are about over. Either he performs or he sits the bench. I think Vogul will make that move, or else he’s going to lose his job.

Late lean…if the early plays go well, I’m going to personally play the UNDER 215 in OKC/LAC. I’ll play that for 1.5*…and I just want to see that the rest of the night is going okay. If not, then I will refrain. You guys should know by now…but I’m all about money management and building bankroll and taking envelopes!

Play #1

We lost w/ the Under by 14 points in the first game of this series, but note that w/ less than a minute to go, the score was 94-84 (178 points) and then the Pacers hit 4 three pointers while the Wizards went 8 for 8 from the FT line!

For tonight’s contest the biggest adjustment will be made from IND regarding Roy Hibbert:

"I have to get (Hibbert) some looks to get him going some," Vogel said. "Everyone has to understand, he wasn't 0 for 11 last night, he was 0 for 2. He's the fifth option in our starting five offense."

Honestly, I don’t think that Hibbert will have a big impact on the offensive end in this series, but w/ the Pacers being focused to feed him down low, I expect IND to play @ slower pace tonight. According to my numbers, the Pace factor of G1 was 94.8 – way above my expectations.

The biggest problem for the Pacers in G1 (apart from letting WAS to hit 10-16 from 3pts) was their inability to get rebounds. WAS had a remarkable 61% reb/rate w/ 17 offensive boards! Drew Gooden alone had more offensive rebounds vs. entire IND team! This is where Hibbert could really make a difference because when he is out, most likely Luis Scola will get his minutes – not a good thing for IND regarding this “issue”.

On the other side, IND’s offensive problems are real against a Wizards’ defense that is coming from a great defensive series vs. CHI in the first round. Note that the Pacers scored only 20 points in the paint!

Because of the high scoring outcome in G1, we are getting 187 points – good enough for me to make a play w/ the Under in here.

Wizards at Pacers: What bettors need to know

Washington Wizards at Indiana Pacers (-4.5, 184.5)

The Washington Wizards had no trouble going into Chicago and taking the first two games of their first-round series from the Bulls. The Wizards will try to turn the same trick when they visit the Indiana Pacers for Game 2 of the Eastern Conference semifinals on Wednesday. Washington dominated most of the night in Game 1 and ended up with a 102-96 victory as Trevor Ariza got hot early and Bradley Beal warmed up late.

The Pacers took the final two games of their first-round series from the Atlanta Hawks by changing up their rotation and making use of Chris Copeland while sitting Evan Turner and Luis Scola. Indiana decided to abandon that in Game 1 against the Wizards and did not insert Copeland into the game until the final minute when the outcome was already decided. Washington improved to 4-0 on the road in the playoffs with the victory and beat the Pacers at their own game by dominating the interior with a 53-36 rebounding advantage. “We know this is going to be a war and winning the boards is important to us,” Wizards coach Randy Wittman told reporters. “When we rebound, we can get out and run.”

TV: 7 p.m. ET, TNT

ABOUT THE WIZARDS: Ariza went 6-of-6 from 3-point range in Game 1, hitting five of those in the first half as Washington built up a 13-point halftime lead. Beal scored 14 of his 25 in the fourth quarter and came through at the line in the final seconds after some shaky free-throw shooting earlier in the contest. “We try to play a fast-paced game,” Ariza told reporters. “(Point guard) John (Wall) is a speed demon and they have to stop him from getting to the basket, so our shooters follow him and stay ready to shoot.” Wall went 4-of-14 from the field but finished with 13 points, nine assists and one turnover in Game 1.

ABOUT THE PACERS: A big theme of the first round was the disappearance of All-Star Roy Hibbert, who needed a solid Game 7 just to get his averages up to 5.3 points and 3.7 rebounds in the seven-game set. Hibbert went back to being invisible in Game 1 on Monday, recording zero points and zero rebounds while committing five fouls in 18 minutes. Fellow All-Star Paul George struggled to 4-of-17 from the field and David West was 6-of-15 en route to 15 points and 12 rebounds. “We were really just out of rhythm,” George said. “Shots weren’t falling, shots were short. We just weren’t in sync to start this game off.”

TRENDS:

* Under is 5-1 in the last six meetings in Indiana.
* Home team is 4-1 ATS in the last five meetings.
* Wizards are 8-0 ATS in their last eight games playing on one days' rest.
* Pacers are 5-25 ATS in their last 30 games playing on one days' rest.

BUZZER BEATERS:

1. Wizards F Drew Gooden collected 12 points and 13 rebounds in Game 1 after totaling two points and three boards in the first round.

2. Indiana G George Hill has scored at least 14 points in five straight games.

3. Washington went 10-of-16 from 3-point range in Game 1.
