Less than one month out from UFC 175, Chael Sonnen has reportedly failed a random drug test administered in the state of Nevada and will no longer fight Vitor Belfort.

Nevada Athletic Commission Chairman Francisco Aguilar confirmed the report to ESPN.com on Tuesday. The article also adds that Ultimate Fighting Championship officials have acknowledged the failed test.

The NAC reportedly tested Sonnen last month during a stint in Las Vegas, when the “UFC Tonight” analyst was set to attend a UFC press conference.

The reported results from the failed test show that Sonnen tested positive for two illegal substances: Anastrozole, which is typically utilized to treat and prevent early stages of breast cancer, and Clomiphene, which is mainly used for cases involving female infertility.

It is likely that Sonnen will face a suspension for the failed test; whether the punishment comes from Zuffa or the NAC has yet to be seen.

This is not the first time Sonnen has faced troubles involving failed drug screenings, In 2010, the self-proclaimed “American Gangster” tested positive for elevated testosterone-to-epitestosterone levels before a UFC middleweight title fight against Anderson Silva.

Notice that all the tests that actually catch people lately are random tests. If the UFC and the athletic commissions were serious about getting rid of PEDs in the sport, they'd find the money to do random tests of all the fighters instead of the nearly useless event-tests.

It makes sense. He's 37, way past his prime, and looking at AT LEAST a years suspension.

Although I have zero doubt he'll fight again. Sonnen-Silva III summer of 2015. That much time off would cover his entire suspension, give him one last big payday, and also another notable win for Silva

^^ I agree. I was talking with the MMA Roasted guy a few weeks ago at one of his shows and he was talking to me about a lot of the fighters and shit that goes on. I guess the UFC was already hoping to have Sonnen/Silva III down the road.

It makes sense business wise . It reminds me of Jones and Hopkins meeting the second time when they were way past their primes
