Braves sizzling hot as faves

Sportsbooks currently lists them as -126 road faves against the New York Mets Monday. The O/U is presently at 7.5.

Leake, Reds owning Cubs as of late

In Cincinnati Reds pitcher Mike Leake's previous six outings against the Chicago Cubs, the Reds are a spotless 6-0. Leake will take the mound when the Reds host the lowly Chicago Cubs at Great American Ball Park Monday.

Cincy is currently -172 faves with a total of eight.

Two worst money pitchers in baseball traded
Stephen Campbell

To say Brandon McCarthy and Jeff Samardzija were in need of a change of scenery would be a massive understatement. Through Sunday, the two starters ranked as the worst money pitchers in the majors (Samardzija $-1204, McCarthy $-1115).

Samardzija is on the move from the Chicago Cubs to the AL-West leading Oakland Athletics, while McCarthy leaves the Arizona Diamondbacks to join the Bronx Bombers in New York. Considering their struggles this year bettors have good reason to be wary of the two pitchers, but the move to a new league combined with the opportunity to play in front of much better teams could make them an attractive play for the rest of the season.

Yankees trade for RHP McCarthy; DFA Soriano
By THE SPORTS XCHANGE

The New York Yankees acquired right-handed pitcher Brandon McCarthy and cash considerations from the Arizona Diamondbacks for left-hander Vidal Nuno on Sunday.

The Yankees also designated veteran outfielder Alfonso Soriano for assignment.

The Diamondbacks will pay half of the $4.1 million owed to McCarthy for the rest of the season and the Yankees will pay the $1 million in his assignment bonus, according to ESPN.

McCarthy is 3-10 with a 5.01 ERA in 18 starts this year.

The 30-year-old is 45-60 with a 4.21 ERA in 193 games (139 starts) over nine major league seasons with the Chicago White Sox (2005-06), Texas Rangers (2007-09), Oakland A's (2011-12) and Diamondbacks (2013-14).

McCarthy was struck in the head on a line drive hit by Erick Aybar of the Los Angeles Angels on Sept. 5, 2012 while pitching for the A's and needed emergency surgery to relieve pressure on his brain caused by internal bleeding. He had a seizure in June 2013 that doctors said was related to his head injury.

The Yankees made the move to acquire McCarthy after facing the reality that left-hander CC Sabathia may be done for the season with a right knee injury and right-hander Michael Pineda is at least a month away from returning to the majors. The bottom three starters -- David Phelps, Nuno and Chase Whitley -- have been inconsistent.

Nuno, 26, is 3-7 with a 4.78 ERA in 22 games (17 starts) over the last two seasons with the Yankees. He was signed as a minor league free agent in June 2011.

Soriano, 38, has a batting line of .221/.244/.367 with six home runs and 23 RBIs in 238 plate appearances this season. He has been in a platoon in the outfield with Ichiro Suzuki getting most of the starts in right.

The Yankees re-acquired Soriano from the Chicago Cubs in the second half of last season. He had a batting line of .256/.325/.525 with 17 home runs and 50 RBIs in 58 games with the Yankees after the trade. The Cubs are paying $13 million of his $18 million salary this year. The Yankees still owe him $5 million.

Soriano is in the final year of an eight-year, $138 million contract. He has said he may retire at the end of this season.

By clearing the roster spot, the club recalled right-hander Bruce Billings from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Billings, 28, has a 5.31 ERA in 11 Triple-A starts this season. He will provide the Yankees with long-inning relief help.

Monday's Tip Sheet
By Kevin Rogers

Orioles at Nationals – 7:05 PM EST

Probable Pitchers:
BAL: Tillman (7-4, 4.21 ERA)
WSH: Strasburg (7-6, 3.53 ERA)

Previous series recap: The Orioles took two of three games against the Red Sox at Fenway Park, including a 12-inning victory on Sunday as +120 underdogs. The Nationals also won two of three contests, capturing the final two contests against the Cubs at home. In each win, Washington cashed as a favorite of least -175, while improving to 5-1 on its current homestand.

What to watch for: Baltimore won three of four matchups against Washington last season, while three of those games finished ‘over’ the total. The Nationals are 7-3-1 to the ‘over’ in the past 11 games, while posting a 5-1 record in the last six home interleague contests. The O’s have rolled on the road with Tillman starting, compiling an 8-2 team record in 10 starts away from Camden Yards.

Pirates at Cardinals – 8:15 PM EST

Probable Pitchers:
PIT: Morton (5-9, 3.30 ERA)
STL: Wainwright (11-4, 1.89 ERA)

Previous series recap: The Cardinals stubbed their toe in the final two games against the Marlins, falling at home on Sunday as a short favorite, 8-4. The Pirates pulled ahead of the Redbirds for second place in the NL Central after sweeping the Phillies at home, as Pittsburgh has won 12 of its past 15 contests. In eight of the last 10 games, Pittsburgh’s pitching had held the opposition to two runs or fewer.

What to watch for: Pittsburgh has put together an 11-2 record in its past 13 series openers, while the Bucs have won seven of Morton’s 10 starts under the lights this season. Wainwright has beaten the Pirates four straight times at Busch Stadium, while the Cardinals have hit the ‘under’ in each of his past four starts overall.

Blue Jays at Angels – 10:10 PM EST

Probable Pitchers:
TOR: Happ (7-4, 4.38 ERA)
LAA: Weaver (9-6, 3.56 ERA)

Previous series recap: Toronto’s offense dried up in a four-game sweep at Oakland, plating only four runs in the four defeats. The Angels stayed on fire by winning their 10th consecutive home game on Sunday, topping the Astros, 6-1 to pull off a four-game sweep. How impressive have the Halos been at Angel Stadium recently? Los Angeles owns a 19-2 record at home since late May, while scoring at least five runs in eight consecutive home contests.

What to watch for: The Angels grabbed three of four games at Toronto in early May, while Los Angeles has won eight of the past 10 meetings. The Jays will be without Edwin Encarnacion, who was placed on the 15-day DL with a quad injury. Toronto is just 1-9 in its last 10 road games, with the lone victory coming at Cincinnati after the Jays fell behind, 8-0. The struggles of the Jays’ offense have translated into plenty of ‘unders’ of late, with the ‘under’ going 9-2 in the last 11 contests.

Giants at Athletics – 10:05 PM EST

Probable Pitchers:
SF: Vogelsong (5-5, 3.86 ERA)
OAK: Chavez (6-5, 3.23 ERA)

Previous series recap: Oakland is cruising along with the best record in baseball (55-33) after sweeping Toronto this past weekend. The A’s improved to 9-1 in the last 10 home games, while the ‘under’ has hit eight times in this stretch. The Giants picked up their first series win in their last four tries, taking two of three games at San Diego. In spite of their recent struggles (6-15 last 21 games), San Francisco has won four of its last five away contests.

What to watch for: Since an 8-1 team record in his first nine starts, the A’s are just 4-4 in Chavez’s last eight trips to the mound. In Vogelsong’s seven road outings this season, the Giants have won six times, but San Francisco is 1-4 in his last five starts overall. Last season, the A’s won three of four meetings from the Giants, including a pair of blowout victories at home.

Twins at Mariners – 10:10 PM EST

Probable Pitchers:
MIN: Correia (4-10, 4.95 ERA)
SEA: Iwakuma (6-4, 3.33 ERA)

Previous series recap: The Mariners return home following a 4-2 road trip, but were tripped up by the White Sox on Sunday, 1-0. The Twins continue to struggle after dropping three of four at home to the Yankees, including a 9-7 defeat on Sunday in which Minnesota fell behind early, 9-0.

What to watch for: Minnesota has lost 10 of its past 11 games away from Target Field, while posting a 2-6 record in its past eight road series openers. The Twins did beat the Mariners two of three times at home back in May, with each victory coming by one run. Since losing five straight home games in mid-June, the M’s are rolling at Safeco Field with a 7-2 record in the last nine home contests. However, the Mariners are 1-5 in the past six home starts made by Iwakuma.

'Home Cookin'

MLB Handicappers taking a look at Monday's matchup between Los Angeles Angels and Toronto Blue Jays in Anaheim will discover a slew of positive betting numbers in favor of Angels. The Angels have enjoyed home cookin' lately winning 15 of their last 16 in Anaheim and 19 of the past 21 in front of the friendly crowd. Those digging deeper to get a better take on the situation will have also noted Halos have owned the series winning 3-of-4 this season, 9-of-11 the past two seasons and 5 of the past 6 running the bases in Angel Stadium. If that were not enough, Mike Scioscia sending right-hander Jered Weaver to the mound should have MLB bettors rushing to the window to make a play on LAA. The Halos are 11-3 as home favorites opening a series w/Weaver, Halos have a 9-2 stretch vs Toronto with the hurler. The clincher, Weaver and the month of July go together like baseball handicapping and baseball betting. The Angels have won 19 of Weaver's last 20 home games in the month of July.

The Tampa Bay Rays have finally woke up and are playing good baseball, coming off an 11-game road trip where they posted a 9-2 mark. Tonight they send Jake Odorizzi (4-7, 4.18) to the mound as they face off with James Shields (8-4, 3.93) and the Kansas City Royals. The Royals have also been playing good baseball until this weekend, when they lost two of three games at Cleveland. Shields already beat the Rays in an earlier outing this season, but has struggled over his last three outings, where he is winless. Consider that the Royals are 10-2 in Shields’ last 12 starts vs. teams with a losing record and 20-6 in his last 26 road starts. The Rays are 5-11 in Odorizzi’s last 16 starts. We like Shields to bounce back with a solid performance and the Royals have been solid on the road this season, so we’re going to back them here tonight in Tampa. The Sharps say…

Game of the Day: Giants at Athletics

San Francisco Giants at Oakland Athletics (-142, 8)

The annual Bay Bridge Series could have two installments this year. The San Francisco Giants and host Oakland Athletics begin their usual four-game clash Monday, with both teams harboring realistic hopes of a trip to the World Series. The Athletics own the best record in baseball after finishing a four-game sweep of Toronto on Sunday and are 28-15 at home.

Oakland looks to continue its dominant pitching after allowing a total of four runs in four games against the Blue Jays, including a 1-0 win in 12 innings on Friday. San Francisco hopes its recent slide – the Giants lost 18 of 23 to slip out of first place in the National League West – has subsided after winning its final two games in San Diego over the weekend. The Giants will try to score some runs for Ryan Vogelsong as they’ve been shut out in two games he has started and scored three or fewer runs in 10 of his 17 outings.

TV: 10:05 p.m. ET, NBC Bay Area (San Francisco), CSN California (Oakland)

LINE HISTORY: Books opened the A’s as -154 home faves with a total of 8.

COVERS POWER RANKINGS: Giants (-185), A’s (-203)

INJURY REPORT: Giants – 3B Pablo Sandoval (Elbow/Questionable), SS Ehire Adrianza (Hamstring/DL) Athletics – 1B Brandon Moss (Ankle/Questionable)

WHAT CAPPERS SAY: “The Bay Bridge series resumes tonight with the Giants visiting the A’s in Oakland. San Francisco has surrendered their NL West lead to the red-hot Dodgers by going 4-10 in their L14 with three of the wins courtesy of Tim Lincecum. The other Giant starters have been mediocre at best except for Ryan Vogelsong who toes the bump tonight. The Giant righty is off a pair of hard luck losses, 3-1 to Cincinnati and 2-0 to St Louis and Wainwright. In those games he gave up just three earned in 13 1/3 innings work with a nice 1/15 BB/K ratio. Vogelsong has pitched well against the A’s in limited opportunities. He’s 1-0 in three starts and working on 13 straight scoreless against the A’s albeit the last time he faced them was 2012. Jesse Chavez has been nothing special of late (0-1, 4.96) and is the weak link on the A’s staff at thus point after the acquisition of Samardzija and Hammel from the Cubs. Based on current form, Vogelsong might be worth a real look at a pretty substantial underdog price.” Nick Parsons

WHAT BOOKS SAY: “The battle of the Bay. The Oakland A’s are the best team in baseball at this point in the season, possessing one of the best pitching staffs in the league, ranking second in all but one pitching stats category. Today they go up against their cross bay rivals the San Francisco Giants who are battling for first place in the NL West. Right now we are seeing a 50-50 split on the action on the money line and 86 percent of the action on the A’s covering the 1.5-run line and 77 percent on the over 8 run total.” Michael Stewart, Carbon Sports.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Giants RH Ryan Vogelsong (5-5, 3.86 ERA) vs. Athletics RH Jesse Chavez (6-5, 3.23)

Vogelsong has been the picture of tough luck lately, losing his last two times out despite posting quality starts and impressive outings. The 36-year-old held St. Louis to two runs over seven innings on Wednesday but was on the wrong end of a 2-0 decision. Vogelsong is 1-0 with a 3.18 ERA in three starts against the Athletics, most recently facing them in 2012.

Chavez’s time in the starting rotation could be coming to a close thanks to the acquisition of Jeff Samardzija and Jason Hammel, as well as the 30-year-old’s declining performance of late. He has allowed nine runs in 10 innings over his last two starts, including a loss at Detroit on Wednesday. Chavez is 0-0 with a 7.36 ERA in four relief appearances against the Giants, whom he last faced in 2010.

TRENDS:

*Giants are 2-9 in the last 11 meetings in Oakland.
*Athletics are 21-6 in their last 27 home games.
*Over is 10-3 in Chavezs last 13 starts overall.
*Under is 16-6-1 in the last 23 meetings in Oakland.

CONSENSUS: 53 percent are taking the Giants +142

Kevin's Pick(s):
Another winner in that Blue Jays and Athletics series yesterday taking the UNDER for a second straight night and cashing it with a 4-2 final score. I've got a 5 unit play going tonight...
5 UNIT = Toronto Blue Jays @ Los Angeles Angels - ANGELS -1.5 (+120)
Listed Pitchers: Happ vs Weaver
(Note: I'm risking 5.00 units to win 6.00 units)
The Blue Jays were swept in Oakland in a four game series, scoring just 4 runs over the 4 games. They've lost 7 of their last 9 games overall and I expect the struggles to continue given their current injuries and struggles some of their hitters are going through. Tonight they face Angels Ace Jered Weaver who has a career 3.48 ERA, .224 OBA and 1.08 WHIP and 9-2 record vs the Blue Jays. He went 6.1 innings giving up just 1 earned run vs Toronto earlier this season. Weaver is 9-6 on the season with a 3.56 ERA, and he is 5-3 with a 2.75 ERA, .208 OBA and 1.06 WHIP at home. J.A. Happ will be on the mound for the Jays and he is 4-1 on the road despite a poor 5.14 ERA, .296 OBA and 1.68 WHIP. Those numbers won't hold up against the Angels who are red hot right now leading the Majors in July with a team .899 OPS and .389 OBP (in comparison the Jays are .643 and .276 in July). Happ lasted just 4.1 innings earlier this season in a loss vs Los Angeles. Take note that the Blue Jays are 0-7 in their last 7 as an underdog and 0-6 in their last 6 road games. The Angels are 20-8 in their last 28 games overall, 13-3 in their last 16 home games vs a left handed starter, 59-29 in Weaver's last 88 starts overall and 39-13 in his last 52 home starts. Also take note that the Angels are 6-1 in their last 7 vs Toronto and 7-1 in Weaver's last 8 starts vs the Jays. I'll take the red hot Angels by a pair or more tonight vs the struggling Blue Jays for 5 units at +120.

Kyle's Pick(s)
2 UNIT = Pittsburgh Pirates @ St. Louis Cardinals - CARDINALS -1.5 (+129)
Listed Pitchers: Morton vs. Wainwright
(Note: I'm risking 2.00 units to win 2.58 units)
Nothing jumped out to me yesterday so decided to take a pass. Some days a no play is the best play on the board. However, we cashed in on a crazy game on Saturday where the Mariners won it 3-2 in the 14th. Let's keep the winning streak going into this week.
If there is one pitchers name that can be mentioned in the same breath as Clayton Kershaw and Felix Hernandez at the moment is Adam Wainwright. He has been leaving hitters lost at the plate improving his ERA to 1.89. That number could be even better if he didn't get hit hard on two occasions, the only time this season he's been solved, 6 runs against the Giants and 7 allowed against the Giants. Since the 7 runs given up against the Giants, Wainwright has surrendered just 4 runs in five games. Note that his ERA in his past three starts is a minuscule 0.74. Combined with a 0.76 WHIP and .218 OBP for good measure. Pretty well a reflection of his overall WHIP and OBP of 0.90 and .239. Pirates' hurler, Charlie Morton, will try and do his best to keep up with Wainwright, which isn't an easy task for any pitcher. Morton hasn't been all that bad in 2014 with a 3.30 ERA, but he leaves a lot to be desired when on the road. His ERA rises to 4.37 and only has a 2-6 record. Furthermore, his 1.28 WHIP and .322 OBP could be better. This is an important series for both teams in the NL Central. The Pirates are coming off a long home stand after ten straight at home in Pittsburgh. The Buccos are just 18-21 away, whereas, the Cardinals are 24-19 at home. Pittsburgh has had problems playing in St. Louis, 2-8 in their last ten trips there. Also, it's been a house of horrors for Morton who is 0-9 pitching in St. Louis. All things considered, -1.5 at +129 behind Wainwright looks like like a pretty solid bet for Monday night.

Monday card has 3 Big Play led by the Triple Perfect 5* Side, and a pair of undefeated Dominator systems. Sunday card cashed big cashing 4 of 5. Free MLB System Play below.

For the Free MLB System Play we travel out West. The Play is on the Oakland A/s. Game 928 at 10:05 eastern. Oakland has won 7 of 8 vs National League teams and averaging over 6 runs in those games. The Giants are scoring 2 runs on .192 hitting the past week. Oakland has the pitching edge too as J.Chavez makes the start and his teams starts show a 12-3 record when he is favored. In his last 4 home starts he won 3 of 4 while allowing just 6 earned runs in 27 innings as he has a 2.42 home era. B. Vogelsong makes the Start for San Francisco and he has a dismal 5.20 road era. There is also a nice system in this game that plays on certain home favorites off a home win and scored 4 or less runs, vs an opponent off a road dog win by 2 or more runs and scored 5 or more runs while playing error free. These home teams have won 12 of 13 times. Look for Oakland to take the opener. On Monday start the week big with 3 Powerful MLB System Plays all from system that are perfect since 2004 and have multiple angles and Pitching advantages. Sunday card cashes 4 of 5. Game: Kansas City Royals @ Tampa Bay Rays
Time: Monday 07/07 7:10 PM Eastern
Pick: Kansas City +116 (moneyline)

The Tampa Bay Rays come home off a successful road trip, and they will open a series against former teammate James Shields and the Kansas City Royals. The Royals have played well on the road where they are 4-1-1 in their last six road series. Shields is certainly comfortable on the mound in Tampa Bay where he was 72-45 as a member of the Rays staff when pitching at home, and his last 24 starts here when with the Rays show them at 18-6. His only appearance against his former team shows a win where he worked seven innings, striking out seven, and allowing two runs on just five hits. The Rays are just 5-14 in their last 19 at home vs. a team with a winning record, and Kansas City is 20-6 on the road in Shields’ last 26 starts. Make the play on Kansas City.

CINCINNATI -1½ +134 over Chicago

Edwin Jackson is very capable of throwing a strong game when his head is in it. Unfortunately, Jackson’s head is in it only about 50% of the time and this is one of those games that he may show up in body only. Jackson is coming off a 2-1 victory in Boston. A few days later the Cubbies would unload two of his buddies to the Athletics and that’s enough to upset this guy. There’s a reason that Jackson is pitching on his eighth team in the past 11 years and one of the reasons is his lack of focus. In his last three starts at Citizens Bank Park, Jackson is 0-3 with a 6.50 ERA after allowing 24 hits and 13 earned runs in 18 innings. His BAA at this venue is .348. The Cubbies are 0-2 since the trade and have been outscored 15-1 in those two games.

Mike Leake may only have a 6-7 record on the season but he’s having his best season skills wise, as his 3.32 xERA, 54% groundball rate and command (23 walks in 114 innings) are all career bests. He is yet to have a pure disaster outing in 17 starts this season. In 14 career starts versus the Cubs, he is 7-2 with a 3.04 ER in 94.2 IP. All of a sudden Leake is striking out more too, as his 32 K’s in in his last 32 innings will attest to. Leake has become an extremely reliable mid-rotation starter. His skills the first time through lineups give hope that he hasn't reached his ceiling yet. The Cubs have hit poorly versus right handed pitching this season, as they have a .229 BA and .656 OPS and they don’t figure to wake up here.

BOSTON -1½ +104 over Chicago

In Scott Carroll’s last two starts the White Sox are 0-2 and have been outscored 14-5. Carroll has made seven starts this season and has yet to record a pure quality one and that doesn’t figure to change here. As a starter, Carroll has been terrible, going 1-5 with a 6.75 ERA, 1.93 WHIP, and 15/14 K/BB in 37.1 IP. The South Side has just 18 wins in 44 road games and they are a combined 22 for 95 (.232) lifetime against Clay Buchholz. Take out Paul Konerko’s 7 for 15 against Buchholz (Konerko can’t hit anymore) and that average dips under .200.

Boston woke up this morning in last place in the AL East. They have also scored the fewest runs in the American League. With guys like Dustin Pedroia, David Ortiz, Mike Napoli and Brock Holt at the top of their lineup, how can that be? The Red Sox are a frustrated team that rallied from a 6-1 deficit yesterday against the O’s to send it to extra innings but still lost. However, they’ve scored 22 times in the last four games and also hung an eight up last week against New York. This team is built to score runs and they figure to take out their frustrations against this extremely weak starter. Clay Buchholz pitched 6.1 innings Tuesday, allowing only one run on five hits (no walks) while striking out two batters and taking a no-decision in the Red Sox' 2-1 loss to the Cubs. Buchholz now makes his third start since coming off the DL and he’s been pretty solid both games. In fact, since coming off the DL, Buchholz has not walked a batter in 13.1 innings and that’s a significant improvement after he walked 24 batters in his first 50 innings before he was sidelined. When his health cooperates, Buchholz can pitch. He had a 60% groundball rate in his last start and let’s not forget the incredible first half he had in 2013. Buchholz appears to be healthy and getting stronger and has a great chance to keep it going here. The total in this game is 10 and if the oddsmakers are close to that number, which they usually are, Boston is likely going to cover the run-line.

Pittsburgh +148 over ST. LOUIS

The Pirates have won an NL-best 12 of 15 and are 11-5 away from home since May 29. Pittsburgh has won three straight and six of its past seven. Charlie Morton is on a nice run, throwing a pure quality start in five of his last six starts, over which he has a 44/12 K/BB in 38 IP. In fact, Morton was absolutely electric in June, reminding us why he entered the season as a premium breakout target. His huge surge in strikeouts was supported by his 12% swing and miss rate. Only Clayton Kershaw had a higher K rate than Morton's 11.0/9 mark among pitchers with a 50%+ groundball rate. Backing groundball pitchers with a high K rate is a beautiful thing when being offered a price like this one.

Adam Wainwright's return from Tommy John surgery last year was a mixed bag at best. But he's leaving little doubt about his status as the club's ace so far this season. In his first 17 starts, Wainwright has an ERA of 1.89 and 106 Ks to go with just 24 walks in 124 IP. Wainwright is not the problem. The problem for Cardinals backers is that St. Louis is averaging just 2½ runs a game over their past 10 games. Without run support, it’s very difficult to win (see Cole Hamels) and that makes the Cardinals a huge risk when spotting a tag like this, especially against the hottest team in baseball.

Thought I would periodically start posting some thoughts on a few of the games as I go through them for the client card. I typically go through the card and make my "own lines" and from there see what the lines the books hang are and compare for variances. Then I try to see WHY the lines are so off and if there's merit to the books or where I put the lines. It helps a lot especially in terms of public teams. I don't care about WHO bets the Yankees (a huge public team), and so often we get VALUE on those. Remember, Vegas doesn't set lines for who they think wins….they set lines for where they think the bets will come in. In most cases, the books don't care WHO wins…they simply want to have split action with juice on either side to make money. Sometimes, the books do take a position, but it's rare.

Anyways, here's a couple MLB games I've started digging into:

- Phillies vs Brewers – The Phillies are a team who underachieves and Hamels has actually been impressive this season. That being said, where does the offense come from? They're absolutely anemic! And that's not to mention that after Hamels goes 6-7 if he has a good start, the Phillies bullpen is putrid. Early money in this one to the OVER and Brewers, which I agree with the Brewers move. If that total is coming up, that HAS to mean "they" think the Brewers can and will score off Hamels.

- KC/Tampa Bay – Off of a big win last night where Price pitched a gem (for those of you who follow me on Twitter we ca$hed a 2* bet on the UNDER 10.5 in live betting we placed after the 1st inning), the Rays have to travel home off a road trip and got in VERY late to Tampa Bay. The Royals played earlier in the day and are much more fresh. And this is the point in the season where we like to fade home teams off a road trip and the players are just like everyone else in the sense that they have families, issues to deal with, and stresses at home. So we're going to most likely have a play on KC later today, but we'll wait for the public to push this line closer to -130 and we can get + money on the Royals.

Also looking into greater detail, in no particular order, for the Rockies/Padres UNDER 10.5, CW Sox +150 and/or +1.5 R/L (who is Buckholtz to be -180 this season), the Braves, and a couple others as well.

The Giants got it done yesterday as a dog & it was posted as a FREE WINNER

I'm actually looking at them again today, but will need to find more substantiave facts to back them against Chavez (who I think has peaked and now regression sets is). Can I get the cahones to back Vogelsong?!? Looking hard into it.

3* Plays

Atlanta -125

Surprised to see this number only at -125 with the surging Braves agains the Mets tonight at Citi Field. The Braves bring lefty throwing Mike Minor to the mound while the Mets bring Diasuke Matsuzaka. Minor has struggled on the mound thus far this season with a record of 2-5 and an ERA sitting just south of 5 but per our system is bound for a rebound against the Mets. Diasuke was battered last time against the Braves giving up 5 earned runs and it is pointing to a similar outcome tonight. Atlanta 5 Mets 2

San Diego and Colorado Under 10.5

This number is coming in very inflated. We have the best hitting team in baseball against the worst hitting team in baseball. We know the game is at Coors Field but the wind is blowing in very strong. Kennedy is very underrated per our system and should be able to fan quite a few batters tonight as he is striking out 9.5 batters per nine innings. Matzek is also underrated per our system and should be able to limit the damage against the poor hitting Padres. Colorado 4 Padres 3

MLB betting cheat sheet: Red Sox face big total Monday

Tim Tames Padres

Something about the San Diego Padres brings out the best in Tim Lincecum, who limited them to one run over 6 1/3 innings as San Francisco (+126) prevailed 5-3 Sunday afternoon. Lincecum is 5-0 in his last five starts versus the Padres - a stretch that includes a pair of no-hitters.

Big Total in Beantown

The Boston Red Sox (-180, 10) stare down their largest total of the season Monday as they host the Chicago White Sox. Boston has been one of the most reliable under bets on the season, going 34-51-3 O/U - including a 16-29-0 mark at Fenway Park.

Tanaka Turnaround?

New York Yankees ace Masahiro Tanaka looks to bounce back Tuesday as he faces off against the Cleveland Indians. Tanaka allowed four runs over seven innings in a victory over Minnesota last time out, snapping his streak of consecutive quality starts to begin his major-league career at 16.

Pitching Notes

* Kansas City right-hander James Shields looks to halt a three-game losing skid against the moneyline as he takes on the host Tampa Bay Rays (-122, 7) in a Monday night tilt. Shields has been a strong Over play of late, going 8-1 O/U in his previous nine starts - including 5-0 in his last five road outings.

* The Los Angeles Dodgers sent road warrior Hyun-jin Ryu to the hill Tuesday in an interleague encounter in Detroit. Ryu has been one of the most dependable road pitchers in baseball to date, going 6-1 with a 1.62 ERA and a 1-6 O/U record in seven starts away from Dodger Stadium.

Hitting Notes

* Houston Astros rookie outfielder George Springer has had an up-and-down start to his major-league career, racking up 17 homers in 268 at-bats but also striking out a whopping 105 times. Houston is 11-5 SU and 9-7 O/U when Springer goes deep entering Monday's game in Texas (-130, 9.5).

* Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder Andrew McCutchen is on a tear, recording four multi-hit games in his last five outings to bump his average to .324 - good for fourth in the NL. The Pirates, who are 19-11 SU when McCutchen has more than one hit, visit St. Louis on Tuesday night.

Totals Streak

Toronto Blue Jays (1-7 O/U): The Blue Jays offense continues to sag - scoring just four runs in a four-game sweep at the hands of the Oakland Athletics - and could struggle further with the loss of slugger Edwin Encarnacion to a quad injury. Toronto is now 42-45-3 O/U for the year.

Prop of the Day

The Angels may represent the strongest blowout play of the day at +475 to win by five or more runs. The Toronto offense hasn't done much of anything so far on its West Coast swing, and now faces the daunting task of matching up against a Los Angeles team that has won 19 of its last 21 home games.

Injury Notes

* Tampa Bay hurler Jeremy Hellickson will finally make his 2014 debut Tuesday after completing his recovery from elbow surgery. Hellickson went 12-10 with a 5.17 ERA in 32 appearances last season, with the Rays going 18-14 SU and 16-14-2 O/U in those outings.

* Toronto first baseman Edwin Encarnacion is expected to miss 2-4 weeks with a strained quadriceps suffered over the weekend in Oakland. The Blue Jays are 14-6 SU and 14-6 O/U in games in which Encarnacion hits a home run.

Weather Watch

* Fenway Park faithful should expect wind blowing out to center field at 13 mph for Monday's game between the Red Sox and White Sox. Boston went 4-2 SU and 1-5 O/U in six games under similar conditions in 2013, while teams combined to average 8.5 runs - slightly below the stadium average.

* Citi Field will see wind blowing out to right field at 11 mph for Tuesday's showdown between the host New York Mets and the Atlanta Braves. Teams averaged just 6.46 runs while battting .220 in 15 games with the wind blowing out to right last season - well below stadium averages.

Cardinals owning Pirates with Morton on the mound

The St. Louis Cardinals have had Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher Charlie Morton's number. The Pirates have lost nine-in-a-row in Morton's last nine starts against the Cards. The Bucs will try to prevent that number from reaching double digits when Morton takes the mound against St. Louis Monday.

The Cardinals are currently -162 favorites with a total of 7.5.

Low scores trending between these two clubs

The scorekeeper tends to have an eventful evening when the Miami Marlins and Arizona Diamondbacks square off with one another. The Under is 5-0 in the last five meetings between the two clubs.

In those previous five ball games, the teams combined for a sparse 18 runs scored (Marlins eight runs, D-backs 10), which equals 3.6 runs per game.

Despite the trend, the total on the game currently sits at nine. Tom Koehler gets the ball for the Marlins while the D-backs counter with Chase Anderson.

Rangers red-hot on the Over

Philadelphia Phillies vs. Milwaukee Brewers

Philadelphia Phillies -116

Free Play Philadelphia Phillies The Brewers have dropped 5 of 6 and face the Phillies best pitcher in Cole Hamels. Now I do know that the Phillies have dropped 9 of 10 but Hamels has very good career numbers against the Brewers and Brewers starter Marco Estrada has just awful numbers against the Phillies. This is a prime spot for Hamels and the Phillies to get a rare win.
