Montreal Canadiens at Toronto Maple Leafs October 8, 07:00 EST

The Toronto Maple Leafs and the Montreal Canadiens kick off the 2014-15 NHL season Wednesday at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto. The Canadiens won three of five meetings last season, but have dropped four of the past five season openers vs the Leafs. Sportsbooks currently list Buds anywhere from -$1.10 to -$1.15 favorites depending on locale.

San Jose Sharks at Los Angeles Kings October 8, 10:10 EST

The defending Stanley Cup Champion Kings will be facing a hungry pod of Sharks when the two meet in the opener. Kings rallied from a three-game deficit to shock the Sharks in last season's first-round playoff series. A little pay-back may not be in order. The Kings have won 12-of-14 hosting Sharks. Kings have opened -$1.35 to -$1.50 faves with the total set at 5.5

Complimentary NHL Pick for October 8th, 2014

Game: San Jose Sharks @ Los Angeles Kings
Time: Wednesday 10/08 10:05 PM Eastern
Pick: San Jose +125 (moneyline) at Bookmaker

The San Jose Sharks have long had a strong presence at home at the Shark Tank where they own some impressive numbers. Last year they broke through on the road after the strike shortened 2012-13 season saw them go 8-14 on the road. They came back last year to go 22-14 on the highway. They will bring a bad taste in their mouths to Los Angeles as the Sharks held a 3-0 series lead in their opening round playoff series vs. the Kings yet lost four straight to get bounced from the playoffs. Ultimately, the Kings, with renewed confidence went on to win it all. The Kings have lost a big component to their stellar defense as Willie Mitchell has left for Florida. Celebrating last year's Stanley Cup win will serve as a distraction and will fire up the Sharks even more. The Sharks have a score to settle here and they get it done.

4* San Jose Sharks ML +120

My favorite play each year is going against the defending champs in their first home game and this one is especially strong since they open up against their big in state rival in San Jose. Nothing will piss off the Sharks more than seeing the Kings raise a championship banner, look for a big time effort here from the Sharks to get this win and spoil the night for the Kings. Thank you and good luck.

*2 UNITS* LOS ANGELES KINGS (-140) AND

*2 UNITS* OVER 5 SAN JOSE SHARKS @ LOS ANGELES KINGS (-125)

The Kings return all forward starters on all 4 of their lines from last season and they have already put together a perfect 5-0-2 mark during the preseason action. They come into tonight's game having lost 3 straight season openers, while the Sharks have won 4 in a row themselves. Obviously this one will not just be your typical season opener, as these two teams met during the playoffs last season and after taking a 3-0 lead in the series, the Sharks were swept in 4 straight games to close it out by the Kings and helped propel them to winning their second Stanley Cup in the L3 seasons. With Quick in net, we'll give the edge to the home team. Take the LOS ANGELES KINGS for the WIN tonight......

*2 UNITS* VANCOUVER CANUCKS (-115)

The Canucks have dominated the Flames in recent meetings, winning 7 straight prior to tonight's contest. They have also posted a 9-1 mark in the L10 times the two teams have squared off on the ice and they come into this season as what appears to be a much improved team compared to last season's debacle that failed to make the playoffs. They traded Ryan Kessler to Anaheim, but they did pick up Nick Bonino in return and also happened to snag Radim Vrbata from the Coyotes, who is coming in off a monster season in 2013-14 that saw him score 20 goals and dish out a career-high 31 assists. Expect those number to rise again this season as he is slated to skate on the first line with the Sedins, which could prove to be deadly for other teams to contend with. Vancouver has also posted a perfect 6-0 ML clip in their L6 games played in Calgary. Go with VANCOUVER to get the WIN on the road......

*2 UNITS* TORONTO MAPLE LEAFS (-110)

The Maple Leafs have opened the season against the Habs in each of the L5 seasons. They have posted a 4-1 mark in those games and come into tonight's meeting having won 4 straight. Get on the TORONTO MAPLE LEAFS for the home WIN again tonight.......
