Game of the Day: Ohio at Miami (Ohio)

Ohio Bobcats vs. Miami (Ohio) RedHawks (+2.5, OFF)

Tuesday night MACtion brings a rivalry game as Miami (Ohio) takes on the Ohio Bobcats in a conference game that is extremely important for Ohio as they look to get to six wins and an outside chance of bowl eligibility while Miami look to get a win over the in-state rivals as a way of getting a moral victory on what has been a long season for the RedHawks who are 2-9 going into Tuesday's clash.

Ohio did their best to stay in the MAC East race for as long as possible, but at 3-4 the dream of an improbable title game berth was dashed as Bowling Green has clinched their spot in the game with a 5-2 record. However they will have an outside chance at getting a bowl bid if they can beat the RedHawks in a game that the Bobcats won easily last season in a 41-16 blowout.

The RedHawks will remember that blowout on their home turf as they host the Bobcats for a second straight year, but five straight losses will present a momentum challenge for Miami (Ohio). If they are to upset the Bobcats goal of reaching the magic number of six points, they will need to turn things around in their 2014 finale in a big way.

TV: 7:00 p.m. E.T.

LINE HISTORY: The line has fluctuated between 1.5 and 2 depending on the book with the O/U off the board at the time of writing.

INJURY REPORT: Ohio: WR Brendan Cope, S Nathan Carpenter, TE Brennan Borland, and WR Papi White are the questionables for the Bobcats. Miami-Ohio: LB Kent Kern is the only questionable player on the Redhawks injury report going into Tuesday.

WEATHER REPORT: The forecast is calling for a chilly, cloudy evening in Oxford with temperatures of 30 degrees Fahrenheit expected at kickoff.

ABOUT OHIO: (5-6, 5-6 ATS, 3-8 O/U): The Bobcats are very much a home team, which makes things tricky for Ohio backers looking to take advantage of the slim -2 line for the 5-6 team Tuesday. Ohio are just 1-4 ATS away from home, and are just 2-3 which is why they are still chasing a sixth win while being out of the MAC East race going into the final week. A low scoring team at 20.2 points per game, the Bobcats lack of ability in putting the ball into the endzone is a big reason why they are 8-3 on Unders in 2014.

Running back AJ Oullette is the player to watch on offense for the Bobcats as he leads Ohio in touchdowns with nine, rushing for 689 yards which is less impressive, but if Ohio are going to win they will need Oullette to find the endzone on a few occasions to get the rivalry game win.

ABOUT MIAMI (OHIO) (2-9, 7-4 ATS, 5-6 O/U): The RedHawks come into their final game of the season as a team that covers often despite being one of the worst teams in the NCAA in the wins department. Most of Miami (Ohio)'s covers have came as underdogs of 10 or more, but they have got the job done as five point faves against Kent State and will look to do so as less than a field goal underdogs in their home finale against the Bobcats.

Despite not getting wins, the RedHawks are 21st in the country in passing yard average, augmented by soon to be 1000 yard wide receiver David Frazier who needs 99 yards to get to the magic number and will likely receiver plenty of targets from quarterback Andrew Hendrix. Hendrix has matched a magic number himself already, reaching 3000 yards going into the regular season finale at 3062 passing yards. If the RedHawks are to upset their Ohio rivals they will need a big game from their quarterback.

TRENDS:

Miami (Ohio) are 3-1 ATS in their last four games, with the Under going 3-1 in that same span.
Ohio haven't broken 21 points in their last three games, winning just one of those two contests.
Ohio are 3-0 as favorites in 2014.

This game has the 2-1 Miami Ohio at the 4-0 Northwestern. Northwestern despite being 4-0 hasn’t really had much competition early on as they barely got by North Florida 69-67 and Elon 68-67. This game should be close through out and this is a real gift from Vegas. Public is backing Miami Ohio and so will we for a 10* winner take them plus the points.

6-Unit Play. #522 Take Penn State (-5.5) over Akron (7:30 p.m., Tuesday, Novembr 25)
Our Game of the month centers around two teams and their respective star players. Our squad has its best player in Penn State's D.J. Newbill doing big things. The other is Akron with its best player Demeterius Treadwell suspended, and his absence is going to be a bigger impact on this game than the line suggests. The Zips already have to adapt this season minus their two other top scorers from 2013, and without Treadwell, Akron really lacks a solid scoring punch individually. Penn State, however, has that. D.J. Newbill is one of the best scorers in the Big Ten, is off to a great start to 2014 and is one of four returning starters for the Nittany Lions. At 4-1 to begin the year, Penn State's lone loss was a double OT result to a Charlotte team playing really well. I think Penn State, considering the absence of Akron's main player, are the superior team and a much stronger squad scoring the basketball. So far on the year, Penn State has been scoring on average in the mid 70s. Akron has struggled to get over the 60s without their full roster to rely upon. Big Ten over MAC minus the number.
3-Unit Play. #540 Take Evansvile (+3) over Green Bay (6 p.m., Tuesday, November 25)
Evansville is a super talented team that the common college hoops fan won't catch on until the spring. All five starters return for the Purple Aces. They really came on at times last season, and this campaign they are much better equipped at establishing themselves as a mid-major threat over the course of the season. Green Bay graduated 7-0 center Alec Brown, and I really question the Horizon team's consistency early in the year minus their proven low post star. Take the points as I think Evansville wins out as a small dog.
3-Unit Play. #568 VCU (-5) over Oregon (7:30 p.m., Tuesday, November 25)
The Rams were on the other end of a statement game yesterday against Villanova. It's bounce back time today. There hasn't been many D-I programs more consistent or proven winners over the past three or four years as VCU, and thus this is a team you can count on to respond after a loss like they had yesterday. I am also not sold on Oregon and think this is a good line-up to face. The balance of the Rams plus their pressure will create for the game we want here. VCU by eight.
3-Unit Play. #570 Take Villanova (-4) over Michigan (10 p.m., Tuesday, November 25)
This is not an overreaction to 'Nova's impressive win against VCU yesterday, merely me thinking that Michigan is not as good as this line is suggesting. I think its very possible to see another double-digit victory by Jay Wright's talented 'Cats here. Michigan, for me, just does not have proven scorers who are leaders in the offensive department. Villanova is a team looking to continue their statement from Monday, and we will lay the number with them as they cash again in NYC.

3 Unit Play Take # 'under' 203.5 Sacramento/New Orleans (8:05pm est):

Any time a team loses it's pont guard it's always a good idea to look to bet 'under' against them their next few games as the betting markets will tend to be slow to react to this big news. We have a great example of that here in this one as the Hornets come into this having lost Eric Gordon which should be a big loss.

These two teams faced off a week ago and that game was lined right around this number at 204. It did make it above that but just barely as the final score hit 206 points in the game.

Play 'under' the total in this one.

ROBERT FERRINGO (NBA)

7-Unit Play. Take #502 Washington (-4.5) over Atlanta (7:00 p.m., Tuesday, Nov.25)
The Wiz are for real. They are 9-3 and overall and 5-1 in front of the starved D.C. faithful. Washington has a real Superstar in John Wall and Bradley Beal is looking like a nice Robin to Wall’s Batman. They also have a very good and underrated big in Marcin Gortat. The major reason for the overall better, more consistent, play this year is the addition of Paul Pierce. The truth has been just that for the Wiz on both ends of the floor. He stabilizes them defensively and gives Wall a pressure release on offense. Pierce really had his pick of where he wanted to go this offseason and it appears he chose wisely for himself and the Washington fans. Defense has been the overall main reason for this 9-3 start and playing at home is where the Wiz really get after it giving up a miniscule 42.2% from the floor. Look for this trend to continue tonight. Atlanta has been up and down and after a 4 game winning streak they have dropped 2 of 3. 6-5 is about what you would expect from the Hawks to this point as they are well coached and play hard on both ends of the floor. They have struggled against the Wiz of late losing 4 of the last 5 and 3 in a row in Washington. Atlanta has also been dreadful against the spread with a 1-6-2 in the last 9 meetings against the Wiz and 1-4-1 in the last 6 in D.C. Both teams have look ahead games on the schedule for Wednesday. Washington travels to Cleveland in a prime time matchup with the Lebrons and Atlanta begins their 4 game homestand against the East leading Raptors. This should be a very good game from start to finish with the Wizards pulling away at the end for a double figures win. 92-81 Washington.

double-dime bet -510 DEN -4.0 (-105) vs 509 CHI
Analysis:
Chicago @ Denver 9:05 PM EST
Play On: Denver -4

The Chicago Bulls travel to Denver to take on the Nuggets on Tuesday night. Chicago is 26-47 ATS last 3 years in the first half of the season. Chicago is 1-6 ATS this year when playing against a team with a winning record. Chicago is 1-5 ATS this year against poor defensive teams allowing 99 points per game or more. Denver is scoring 105.3 points per game at home this year. Denver is looking for their fifth win in a row after a slow start. Denver is 13-3 SU at home vs Chicago last 16 meetings and 2-0 SU and ATS at home vs Chicago past 3 years. Rose is still banged up for the Bulls and listed as questionable for tonight. We’ll play Denver for 2 DIMES tonight! Thanks and good luck, Rocky

OC Dooley:
“2 UNIT” COLLEGE BASKETBALL REVENGE PLAY OF THE NIGHT (North Carolina-Charlotte +5’ at home versus Miami-Florida in a 9:05 eastern tipoff): These pair of sides just met a couple of days ago which brings to the table the issue of “familiarity” for the home underdog. It is easy to see why Miami (5-0) is the favorite since a team that began the new campaign unranked is now #17 in the latest rankings. Last Monday the Hurricanes made national news when traveling to Florida and snapping the Gators 33-0 home wave of prosperity. The Hurricanes are led by the same Jim Larranaga who once led George Mason to a magical run to the NCAA Final Four. But as mentioned it was just a couple of days ago on a neutral court when the Hurricanes pummeled Charlotte by a 77-58 final count and the 49ers now have a feel for their personnel and style. In addition it is worth noting that in the past two years when taking the court in the month of NOVEMBER very quietly North Carolina-Charlotte (8-1 ATS) has been very kind to investors
