Robert Ferringo CBB:

2-Unit Play. Take #528 Kentucky (-26) over Columbia (7 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 10)
I don't think it is a stretch at all to expect Kentucky to win this game by 30. Yes, they could be looking ahead to their date with North Carolina this Saturday. And last time that happened they slept their way through a 19-point win over Buffalo. But that was just the second game of the year. And Buffalo is better than Columbia. Kentucky has beaten Top 10 teams (Kansas) by 32 points. They have easy double-digit wins over other Top 40 team Texas and Providence by 12 and 20, respectively. Their other home wins have been bloodbaths, winning by 33, 48, 58 and 23 points against bottom feeder teams. Columbia isn't a bottom feeder. But they don't exactly have the guns to keep up. Kentucky by 30
.
7-Unit Play. Take #522 Purdue (-17) over Arkansas State (7 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 10)
I say about plays like this: Either It Is Or It Isn't. If Purdue just comes to play and with all other things being equal they will win by 20 and cover this spread. Or they won't come to play, they'll dick around for 40 minutes, and they'll win by 8 or 9 and this one won't be close. I think the former. But that's the risk of trying to predict the movements of 20-year-old kids.
That said, there is a pretty good chance that Purdue wins by 100 tonight. Let's start with the Boilermakers. They have posted some huge blowout wins already this year and are coming off a 20-point beating of IUPU-Ft. Wayne. IP-FW is a decent team that was also very motivated to take down the big in-state team. Purdue also beat Missouri by 21, Grambling State by 52, IUPUI by 20 and Samford by 40. I really don't see how Arkansas State is appreciably different than any of those other teams. Purdue is very motivated to get back to the NCAA Tournament after back-to-back years below .500. I don't think they are taking any game lightly. They kind of already had that weird we-didn't-come-to-play-at-all lackluster game last Saturday, when they lost to North Florida 73-70. I think that one is still fresh enough in their heads where they won't take this game lightly and they won't take their foot off the gas. They are getting decent guard play and they have two quality big men in A.J. Hammons and Isaac Haas. They should completely dictate this game.
Arkansas State, on the other hand, is terrible. But we haven't had a chance to see just how terrible because they have not played. These guys have only played four games this year. Four! And one of those was against a D-II school. Another was against the No. 346 ranked team in the nation, Central Arkansas. The other two games were against UT-Martin and Lamar - and they lost. So, basically, they have played one game against a Top 300 team this year and that game was played on Nov. 17. They've only played twice since before Thanksgiving. All of this would be a problem for a normal team. For a team that is trying to replace five senior starters and seven of its top nine players from last year? It's devastating.
The Boilermakers stunk last season. But they played four games against teams ranked No. 250 or worse last year. We're talking the real dregs. On opening night they had a one-point win over Northern Kentucky. But their other three wins were by 36, 28 and 29 points. In 2012 they played three games against weak sisters. They won by 29, 26 and 33 points. In 2011, the last decent team they had, they played four more of these games against bottom-feeders. They won by 62, 21, 25 and 25. In the years prior they had much better teams so I don't think those results are pertinent. But the fact is they have routinely beaten the hell out of bad teams during this time of the year. And I think they'll do it on Wednesday to an Arkansas State team that is ripe. The Boilermakers will win this one by at least 21 points.

2-Unit Play. Take #526 Georgetown (-2) over Kansas (7 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 10)

1-Unit Play. Take #529 Louisiana Tech (-4) over UL-Lafayette (8 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 10)

2-Unit Play. Take #542 Colorado (-5.5) over Colorado State (9 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 10)
I will admit that Colorado has not been very sharp this year. But they bombed Air Force by 15 after their first loss of the year - an embarrassing defeat at Wyoming - and I think they will bounce back after a dud at Georgia last Sunday. The Buffs have dominated this series, going 12-2 ATS in the last 14 meetings, and the favorite is 11-4 ATS in the last 15 meetings. Colorado State is undefeated and they are playing well. But they aren't the same on the road. And they are really just a two-man show with J.J. Avila and Dan Bejarano. I am a huge Avila fan. He's one of the best mid-major big men in the nation. But he is playing into a strength for the Buffs, who have Xavier Johnson and Josh Scott down low. It's 2-against-1. Last year the game was at CSU and as a result Johnson and Scott battled foul trouble all game long. But they still held Avila to 4-for-19 shooting and five turnovers. I'd think the whistles will go the other way this time around. And if Avila gets into foul trouble this one will be a blowout. In fact, I think that's what is going to happen. The Buffs have been resilient after nonconference losses. In 2013 they rebouneded from a tough loss against Wyoming with a 9-point win over Colorado State. They came back from an embarrassing loss to Kansas with a 7-point win over Fresno. Last year they lost to Oklahoma State and came home and beat Georgia by 14. That is exactly the type of game I see here. I think Colorado will shoot well and at least contain Avila and the Rams have no counterpunch. Colorado by 10.
1-Unit Play. Take #559 Northern Iowa (-3) over Denver (8 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 10)

2-Unit Play. Take #561 Davidson (Pk) over Montana (9 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 10)

1-Unit Play. TEASER: Take #536 Penn State (-3) over Duquesne (9 p.m.) AND Take #532 Temple (-4.5) over Towson (8 p.m.)

I also like a 1-Unit Play on the 'under' in the Temple-Towson game. I think the total will be posted - if it is - around 123.
Carpe diem. Good luck.

Strike Point Sports CBB:

7-Unit Play. #561 Take Davidson (-1) over Montana (9 p.m., Wednesday, December 10)
This line is correct in that Davidson should be favored on the road, however it is still pretty soft. The Wildcats are expected to struggle for the most part in what is their first season as a member of the Atlantic 10. But perhaps oddsmakers are missing the point specifically with this match-up: this isn't A-10 competition. This is a Montana team from the Big Sky that is picked closer to the middle of the pack than the top of the league. And the fact remains that Davidson has been an established mid-major program for a while now as part of the Southern Conference. They have done well through the first month of the season, going 6- with their sole loss on a neutral court in Charlotte to in-state big brother North Carolina in a game where they actually played the Tar Heels pretty tough. This Wildcats team can score, and that is what will separate them from their opponent tonight. Davidson is scoring 87 points per game. They've scored 90 or more already four times, and twice came against teams (UCF and Charlotte) who are much better than Montana. Speaking of the Grizzlies, they only score 68 per game. They can't and won't keep up. I fully expect Davidson to handle business on this mini one-game road trip out west. Five Davidson players are averaging at least nine points per game. Depth and balance get it done for the Wildcats, and they come through minus a very modest number to best Montana.
3-Unit Play. #529 Take Louisiana Tech (-4) over Louisiana Lafayette (8 p.m., Wednesday, December 10)
One of the best mid-majors in the country is Louisiana Tech. They went 29-8 last season have have four starters back from that squad. Louisiana Lafayette won 23 games last season but the thing is they graduated three starters from that team. And the early records for each suggest these two are going in different directions. LT has produced more of the same winning ways with a 7-1 start. That loss came in the team's second game at Temple where the Owls went 34-49 from the free throw line. ULL is 3-4 and just lost last time out by ten to McNeese State. They don't have any business staying within single digits of the Bulldogs here. LA Tech has won every game this season by at least nine points, the last four all by double digits. That trend holds up as they take care of their in-state opponent.

3 Unit Play Take #504 Charlotte -2.5 over Boston (7:05pm est):

Coming into this season the Charlotte Hornets were expected to be a decent team in the Eastern Conference but that hasn't been the case here early on. A lot of that reason has had to do with having played a tough schedule thus far. They put an end to a long 10 game losing streak in their last game as they almost squandered away a big 20 point lead in that one. They come into this contest well rested after enjoying having the last four nights off. Big free agent signing Lance Stephenson is finally starting to play much better as well and when he does this because a much better team.

Boston isn't well rested as they just played in a double overtime marathon in their last game on Monday night versus Washington. The Celtics came storming back late in that one as they made up the 16 point deficit they faced going into the 4th quarter to force overtime.

Take Charlotte here. Huge plays galore on tap the next few days as I have three monster six unit selections or higher over the next four nights starting on Thursday. Stay tuned for more information as I'm 16-5 my last 21 plays at this level.

Iona likes to run, so look for Rider to play the low-post game with 7-foot junior Matt Lopez and his 11 points per game, 4.8 rebounds per game) 6-4 Teddy Okereafor (11.3 ppg, 4.6 rpg) and 6-7 soph Kahlil Thomas (4.8 rpg). Okereafor scored 28 points and grabbed a career-best nine rebounds to lead Rider to an 80-68 victory over Siena on Sunday. Iona is all about offense, but their lack of defense is hurting, allowing 94 and 92 points the last two games (both losses). They were favored the last game but lost 92-89 to Monmouth, allowing over 52% shooting. The Gaels are 0-7 ATS after allowing more than 90 points in their previous game. Take the points on Rider.

ORLANDO (+5.5) over Washington
7:00 p.m. ET

Magic return home from a successful West Coast road trip playing their best basketball of the young season. Orlando went 4-2 ATS against the West’s best including outright wins over Utah and Sacramento and a 1 point loss to the team with the best record in the NBA, Golden state. Washington, meanwhile, has been money at home going 9-3 ATS but is only 4-4 ATS on the road. In fact, the Wizards have dropped two in a row ATS on the road and are averaging 9 points less on the road than at home. Let’s look for those trends to continue tonight and back the Magic. We have been destroying the early basketball lines

3-Unit Play. Take #501 L.A. Clippers (-6.5) at Indiana (7:00 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 10)

The Clippers started the season 5-4 and had a lot of people scratching their head as to what was the problem in LA. Since that start they have been playing wonderful basketball going 6-1 on a current 7 game road trip and 10-1 overall. Last time out the Clips did not play their best but still managed to steal a victory with a Blake Griffin 3 at the OT horn to beat the pesky Suns. Winning a game like that, where everyone doesn't play their best, can go a long way over a long 82 game season. Chris Paul and his backcourt mates have been stroking the rock during the winning streak. Along with Redick and Crawford they have all shot above 40% from three point range and couple that with Griffin's high level of play it is hard to believe they won't handle Indiana tonight. The Pacers will try to avoid taking a 6th straight loss and 7th in their last 8. They have not been able to put the ball in the basket shooting a robust 41.6% from the floor and 29.2% from deep. Indiana has been hit by the injury bug and have tried their best to piece together a competitive squad with the likes of Chris Copeland and Solomon Hill carrying the load. It does not look good for Indiana as the Clips have been rolling with a 5-1 ATS record in their last 6 and have not been terrible on the road with a 5-4 ATS record this year. The Pacers do not stand much of a chance so lay the 7 points. Clippers with an easy 9th straight victory.

3-Unit Play. Take 'Over' 193.5 New York at San Antonio (8:30 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 10)
2-Unit Play. Take #510 San Antonio (-11) over New York (8:30 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 10)

Both teams leading scorers are out tonight. No Tony Parker for the Spurs is a much easier blow to handle than no Melo for New York. The Spurs played their worst game of the year last night losing to Utah 100-96 and the Knicks also put forth a lackluster performance losing to the Pelicans 104-93. These two teams couldn't be more different. The Spurs are a well-oiled Championship team that has played together at a high level for what seems like an eternity. They are 15-6, 10-2 in their last 12, and are smarting after that loss last night. Coach Pop doesn't let the Spurs give an inch so expect them to come out with laser focus at home tonight. The Knicks are a team that hasn't has an identity all season and have struggled the past couple years to do anything of substance aside from hire a President who lives in Los Angeles. Derek Fisher has looked severely over matched on a nightly basis and the players don't have a clue what page they are supposed to be on. San Antonio should have little trouble getting out to an early lead and sustain it throughout. They should also see little push back from a below average defensive team like the Knicks. The Spurs will get well above their average of 100 ppg and the knicks should find some success in garbage time to get over the total. Go ahead and give New York the 10.5 they will need a lot more than that. Spurs 115-99.

Best Bet First Preview – San Diego State -10.5 over Long Beach State

San Diego State is off a horrible loss to Washington, in which their starters shot 4 for 36. That’s about as bad as it gets. Still the defense was solid in the game and they won the rebounding battle, plus had the edge at the FT line.

Dave expects the defense to remain as tough here, while the shooting should improve and SDSU should take out a LBSU team that just doesn’t play well on the road, rather easily.

2-Unit Play. Take #519 Houston (+10.5) over Golden State (10 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 10)
There are several key players that probably won't play for Houston tonight. Dwight Howard and James Harden are likely out. But even though Houston has been beat up lately they have still won four straight and seven of their last eight games. The Warriors have been amazing to start the year. But I think they are going to take it easy on the Warriors tonight without their top players. They will take them lightly. The underdog has gone 5-2 ATS in this series and Houston has gone 5-3 ATS in the last eight meetings. I will take the points in this one.
3-Unit Play. Take #505 Boston (+2.5) over Charlotte (7 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 10)
AND
4-Unit Play. Take 'Under' 205.0 Boston at Charlotte (7 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 10)
I like this Boston team. And I like how this team is playing right now. They have covered four straight games. They nearly won at Washington as a nine-point underdog on Monday in a game where I cashed another ticket. Their offense has been rolling along and this team has really taken up in Year 2 under Brad Stevens. Charlotte has struggled in a big way! They finally won to snap their 10-game losing streak. They are just 2-12 in their last 14 games overall. This team shouldn't be favored. They are just 2-5 ATS in their seven games as a favorite. Boston's offense is going good. But the Bobcats are a strong defensive team that is struggling on that end of the court. The 'under' is 4-0 the last four times they have played in Charlotte. The 'under' is 6-2 in the last eight meetings overall and I think that this one will be lower scoring.
