Arrieta, my 5th ranked starting pitcher last season, is still underpriced at home. Anthony DeSclafani has a 5.8 career ERA (39.0 innings), a K/9 rate of 6.8, 1.5 HR/9 rate, and 4.5/4.2 FIP/xFIP. Throw in a mediocre 35% GB-rate and a 23% LD-rate and you have a pretty mediocre pitcher on the mound opposite Arrieta. Arrieta dominated the Reds at home last year allowing 2 ER’s in 16 innings of work with 22K’s and only 1 BB. I like his chances for another strong outing and a win tonight.

Fading old-man Burnett here against one of the better lineups in the league. Opposite him is Shane Greene, who is facing the Pirates for the first time in his career. Greene has had a dominant year last season with a 24% K-rate, 50% GB-rate, and 3.4 SIERA, 37th best mark in the league. He does tend to struggle against ‘lefties’ with a 1.7 K/BB rate, 15% K-rate, and 4.3/4.3 FIP/xFIP against them. Pirates have 3 of them in the lineup today: Polanco, Walker, and Alvarez. Polanco is still figuring out how to play in the majors and Alvarez is a below average hitter. Walker of course is a ‘risk’ but hopefully Greene can work around him. What Greene lacks against lefties though he more than makes up for it against righties. Here are his numbers against right-handers in his career: 31% K-rate, 4.9 K/BB rate, 2.8/2.7 FIP/xFIP. These are absolutely elite numbers against right-handed hitters. As long as Greene is ‘on’ his game today, I expect a dominant performance out of him, as the Tigers should plate enough runs off Burnett to grab a win in this one.

The Wizards have nothing to play for but that doesn’t mean that they’ll ‘let up’ tonight. Wall went on the record to say that “We feel like we owe them from last year”, referring to the fact that IND eliminated Washington from the playoffs last season. Looks like the Wizards will play hard tonight. Indiana is on a 5-game winning streak but those came against CHA, MIA, NYK, DET, and a depleted OKC squad – all are non-playoff teams as of today. Facing a ‘playoff’ opponent tonight won’t be as easy, especially when IND has to cover such an inflated number. Washington was a favorite in all previous 3 meetings this season and now they’re a substantial underdog. I’ll grab the value in this one.

The Suns have lost 9 of their last 10 games and will miss the playoffs for the 5th consecutive year. The Clippers have won 13 of their last 14 games, and still have a ‘slight’ chance at the 2-seed (would need the Spurs to lose at home to the Pellies) or at the very least a 3-seed with a win tonight. Seems like two teams going in totally opposite direction, which of course is true. But that’s why this spread is so inflated. With Suns seemingly having nothing to play for, let’s remember that this is their last game of the season. And it will come at home in front of their fans. I’m sure these guys will play hard just for that reason alone. Plus this is their last chance to salvage at least one win from the 4-game series with the Clippers. I’m sure Bledsoe will be plenty motivated against his former team and I believe the rest of the players will be as well. Clippers are on a b2b and playing their 3rd game in 4 nights. Expect a lax defensive effort here as this team is just looking to grab a win, and not make any big ‘statements’. The line is way over-inflated and I’ll grab the value with the home dog.

The Cleveland Indians took two of three at Houston to open the 2015 season but were swept at home over the weekend by Detroit. The Indians gave up at least EIGHT runs in each of those three games, after surrendering a total of just THREE in their first three games. Starters Zach McAllister and T.J. House allowed a combined 11 runs in 5.1 innings on Friday and Sunday but Corey Kluber delivered a strong start Saturday, as it was the bullpen which allowed seven runs in a 9-6 defeat. The White Sox totaled just SEVEN runs in opening 0-4 but Adam LaRoche homered in 5-4 and 6-2 wins over Minnesota Saturday and Sunday.

Chicago’s rotation is looking to build off its first quality start after Chris Sale struck out eight and limited the Twins to one run in six innings in Sunday’s four-run victory. Left-hander Jose Quintana gets the nod here, after struggling in Wednesday’s 7-5 defeat at Kansas City, allowing five ERs on nine hits in five innings, although he didn’t receive the loss. The 26-year-old Colombian is 3-0 with a 3.24 ERA in 11 appearances (nine starts) in his career against the Indians (1-0 with 21 strikeouts in 23 innings over four outings last season). Quintana had a solid 3.32 ERA last season but went a modest 9-11 plus the White Sox went just 12-20 (-$856) in all of his starts.

Cleveland counters with Carlos Carrasco, hoping to avoid its longest home skid to start a season in 28 years. The Indians haven’t started 0-4 at home since 1987! Carrasco struck out 10 and allowed three hits over 6.1 innings in a 2-0 win at Houston on Wednesday, a day after signing a four-year, $22 million extension. “Boy, he came out with really explosive stuff and I think knowing how much he missed in spring training, it probably wasn’t surprising that he got a little bit tired,” manager Terry Francona said. “But he pitched so well … his stuff was so good.” Carrasco, who threw 88 pitches, was limited to three spring training starts as he took time away for the birth of his daughter.

Carrasco had been 0-4 with a 7.12 ERA lifetime vs the White Sox until going 2-0 with a 0.53 ERA in his final three appearances against them last season. He allowed one run and eight hits over 15.1 innings with 15 strikeouts in the two starts. The White Sox were just 51-66 vs right-handers last year and that includes 22-36 on the road, averaging a puny 3.0 RPG in 39 road games at night vs righties. Considering the fact that the Indians are 15-3 at home in this series since 2013, expect Cleveland to get its first home win of 2015 in this one.
