I still can't believe that the Washington Redskins are in this position to win the NFC East. The Eagles are coming off an embarrassing lost on the road against Arizona while the Redskins are coming off a home win against Buffalo. Both teams are coming into this division battle winners of 2 out of 3 games and I believe the better QB play Saturday night wins this game.

If you watch College bowls games to see tons of touchdowns then this is NOT your game. Points will be hard to get in the St. Petersburgh Bowl and I would hurry up and grab the 44 because I see this game closing around 43 or 42. Connecticut last 5 games all 5 of them have gone UNDER while Marshall is 1-4 OU in their last 5 Bowl games.

3 Unit Play. #228 Take Washington St -2.5 over Miami Fl (2:00p.m., Saturday, Dec 26 CBS - Sun Bowl)
This play on Washington St was all on the status of QB Luke Falk who didn't play against Washington because of a concussion so I see Falk picking apart the Miami secondary all Saturday long. The Miami defense was their Achilles heel all season long and if they can stop the throwing game of Washington St the second half is when the Cougars take control of this game. Offense will be no problem for both teams and I see the defense of Washington St making some key stops in the second half to give the Cougars a bowl win. Washington St is 8-1 ATS in thir last 9 games and the Hurricanes are 0-5 ATS when playing on a neutral site field.

2 Unit Play. #229 Take Over 55 S. Miss vs Washington (2:20p.m., Saturday, Dec 26 ESPN - Heart of Dallas Bowl)
The offense of Washington scored 97 points in their last two games and what I saw on defense from Southern Miss in their last 3 games this game easily cashes on the over. Was a bit shocked that this total wasn't around 57 or higher and Southern Miss QB Nick Mullens should have no problem moving the ball on the Washington D.

6 Unit Play. #231 Take Indiana -2 over Duke (3:30p.m., Saturday, Dec 26 ABC - Pinstripe Bowl)
Who of thought two powerhouse basketball schools would be one of the most intriguing bolw matchups this bowl season. Indiana comes into this bowl on a two game road-winning streak beating Purdue and Maryland on the road by double-digits. Duke on the other hand comes to the Pinstripe Bowl losers of 4 out of 5 games and the Blue Devils defense had problems stopping fast pace offenses. If Indiana also gets back RB Jordan Howard in this game then I see Indiana having no problem winning in the Bronx and wouldn't shock me to see another double-digit Hoosiers victory. Indiana is 5-1 ATS against non-conference opponents.

3 Unit Play. #233 Take Tulsa +14 over Virginia Tech (5:45p.m., Saturday, Dec 26 ESPN - Independence Bowl)
Can't believe the Frank Beamer retirement party ends at the Independence Bowl Saturday night. Yes I know the Tulsa Golden Hurricanes have dropped 2 out of their last 3 games but those losses were against North Carolina and an option team of Georgia Tech on the road. I see Va Tech winning this bowl game for Beamer but covering this big number will be a problem. Va Tech is 2-5-1 ATS when playing on neutral site games and Tulsa is 4-1 ATS in their last 5 bowl games.

3 Unit Play. #235 Take UCLA -6.5 over Nebraska (9:15p.m., Saturday, Dec 26 ESPN - Foster Farms Bowl)
Was torn on this game from the start and the main reason why we picked UCLA was because we believe the better QB is at UCLA. UCLA QB Josh Rosen will have a big game and since the Cornhuskers have problems rushing the ball the defense of UCLA can just concentrate on the throwing game of Nebraska. Turnovers will be key and I see UCLA defense causing some turnovers in this matchup. UCLA is 4-1 ATS against Big Ten teams and Nebraska is 1-4 ARS against PAC 12 schools.

I'm laying the points with Washington on Saturday as my Main Event


Great season for Southern Miss, but we went against them in their finale and cashed when the Eagles lost 45-28 to Western Kentucky. And we say now what we said then, Southern Miss has beaten just one team that currently owns a .500 record or better. The win came against La Tech. Southern Miss won 58-24, but the final score was misleading. The Eagles led 24-17 well into the third quarter, but eventually took advantage of no less than seven La Tech turnovers. Before the 17-point loss to WKU, and before the game with La Tech, Southern Miss played just two other teams with a winning record, losing 34-16 to Mississippi State and 31-10 to Marshall. That 13 ppg average was a far cry from the 47 ppg they scored against their other 10 opponents (before WKU). And high powered Southern Miss averaged just 4.92 yards per play, 3.2 yards per run, and 6.13 yards per pass with two TD passes and three INTs. Those were a few of the reasons we backed WKU a few weeks ago and are some of the same reasons we'll back Washington in this one. The Huskies scored a coaching coup when Chris Peterson agreed to sign-on, and this is one coach we know will have his team focused. Washington is 6-6 SU, but just 15 points from a 9-3 mark. And they won their final two games with ease, outscoring Oregon State & Washington State, 97-17. The defense is the best in the Pac-12 and will be a serious step-up in level of competition for Southern Miss. RB Myles Gaskin leads the U-W offense and I expect the offensive line to provide plenty of room, eventually opening up lanes in the passing game. We should note that teams off of back-to-back wins by 28 or more points are on a 60-23 ATS run, provided their opponent allowed more than 36 ppg in their previous contest. And Washington is on an 8-1 ATS run as a favorite of 3 1/2 to 10 points, outscoring those nine opponents by 22 ppg. I'm laying the points with Washington, my Main Event. Thanks & GL! ‘COLLEGE BOWL GAME OF THE YEAR’

Nothing better than watching a football game in a baseball stadium, but that will be the case today when the Hoosiers invade the Big Apple. Indiana has a very shaky defense but a good offense that can put up points. But this play is more about going against Duke as they have yet to recover from their loss to Miami that featured some bad calls by the officials. The Blue Devils would go on to lose their next three games and only beat Wake Forest by six points in their season finale. Duke gave up over 350 yards per game passing in their last four games, and expect the Hoosiers to move up and down the football field. Duke has lost three straight bowl games and actually has not won a bowl game since 1961. Indiana finished the season strong with two blowout wins and was very competitive with Ohio State, Iowa, and Michigan. Indiana played a very difficult schedule, and thus their 6-6 record does not look that bad. Duke is 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games overall. Indiana is 5-1 ATS in their last 6 nonconference games.

The fans will be out in full force drinking more than just eggnog as the Eagles look to send the Redskins back to Washington with coal in their stockings. It's the third home game in a row so this is a huge advantage for the Eagles. It's all-in for the City of Brotherly Love. Lose and the Eagles are out. The type of game that Philadelphia can buy into. It's also payback from week 4 for the Eagles as they lost by 3 points. Of its six road games thus far in 2015, Washington has won only one, defeating Chicago in Week 14 by three points. This could in part be tied to the play of quarterback Kirk Cousins. As a whole this season, Cousins has earned a 97.2 rating, which is the eighth best in the league. However, that rating drops significantly on the road to a 76.5 average across the six contests. Can we put all the blame on Cousins or could it be that the defense is at fault and then forces Cousins to perform differently. Washington has allowed 30.5 points per game on the road this season, compared to just 18.6 points at home. By just statistics alone, Sam Bradford's best performance of the season came against Washington in Week 4. Bradford threw for 270 yards, three touchdown, no interceptions and his 122.6 passer rating was the highest of his season.

Look for motivation to be key in this game. The Bruins had high hopes at the beginning of the season but those hopes faded mid-season highlighted in November by a home loss to Washington State and a 19-point defeat to rival USC with the South Division title hanging in the balance. So much for them. On the other hand, Nebraska lost so many by just the smallest of margins. Now the Cornhuskers are being one of the "sub.500" that many are mocking as a 5-7 team should not be playing in a bowl game. The have talent. They have a talented Jr QB looking to extend his college career with some style points and the team loves their coach, Mike Riley. They will have a chip on their shoulder and a win over UCLA will be a nice way to end their season. The Bruins have not seen any team in the Pac12 with a defensive and offensive line like the Cornhuskers. Bruins running back, Paul Perkins with find his yards per carry around 3.2. Young freshman, Josh Rosen, will see a few blackshirts in his backfield as the evolution of this loss begins with stopping their offense. Armstrong torched L.A.’s other team, USC, in last year’s Holiday Bowl, and the boys from the Midwest relish this opportunity much more than the glamour boys of UCLA. How excited can the LA team and crowd be with a trip to Santa Clara, Ca? Look for Armstrong to throw and run but give the game ball the the Cornhuskers defense.

The Duke Blue Devils were smooth sailing with a 6-1 record and then that last second eight-lateral kick off return that resulted in the referees firing and a four game losing skid for Duke. Now they get to sit back and meet the Big 10's worst scoring defense (37 ppg) in the Indiana Hoosiers. They also had a streak of 6 losses in a row. Thomas Sirk will be a thorn for Indiana as he is one of five quarterbacks among Power 5 conferences to lead his team in passing yards (2,462) and rushing yards (648) this season. My power ratings make Philadelphia a 5-point favorite, so there is a bit of line value at the current number of -3, and there would be even more value if this line drops below that key number to -2.5 or less.

Philadelphia is just 2-4 SU in their last six games with the last being a 40-17 blowout home loss versus Arizona. That was a national TV game, so novice bettors will remember that game and want no part of the Eagles in this game. The Eagles were 3-point favorites at Washington back in Week 4; they lost that game 23-20. But recent results have altered tonight’s pointspread which is why Philadelphia is only laying 3 points at home.

Washington played a perfect game at home last week in their 35-25 win over the Bills. That game was not even that close as the Redskins led 21-0 in the second quarter. However, that performance actually sets Washington up to regress some in this game, especially since they are now traveling on a short week and playing on the road where they’ve been a much weaker team this season. The Redskins are 6-2 SU at home, but just 1-5 SU on the road where they have been outscored by -12.2 points per game (18.3-30.5) and out-yarded 283-410 (4.9-6.1 yards per play).

I would lean towards the Eagles if this line drops to -2.5 or less.

Southern Mississippi has a strong 9-4 SU record this season, but the Golden Eagles played an extremely easy schedule. In fact, Southern Mississippi played the 125th schedule this season compared to Washington who played the 35th toughest schedule in the country this season. Southern Mississippi is playing in their first bowl game in four years, and their first bowl game under head coach Todd Monken. Southern Mississippi had solid offensive numbers this season; they averaged 40.6 points per game on 7.0 yards per play. However, the Golden Eagles played one of the softest slates of defensive opponents in the country; their opponents gave up 32.8 points per game on 6.1 yards per play. The Golden Eagles are taking a major step-up in defensive class against Washington in this game, and we expect Southern Mississippi’s offense to get stymied in this game.

Washington went just 6-6 SU in the regular season, but as mentioned above, the Huskies played a brutal schedule. In fact, Washington faced a whopping 10 bowl teams in their twelve games this season. Three of those opponents have already played their bowl games; they went 2-1 with the offenses scoring a combined 121 points. Washington’s defense was excellent this season as the Huskies held four opponents to their season-low and second season-low in yards. Overall, Washington gave up just 17.7 points per game on 4.9 yards per play versus offenses that averaged 31.1 points per game on 5.9 yards per play. Head coach Chris Petersen had a history of success in bowl games while at Boise State, but last year Washington lost their bowl game in Petersen’s first season. This is an important game for Petersen and the Washington program, so we expect a motivated effort. We’ll lay the points with the Huskies in this Heart of Dallas Bowl on Saturday afternoon.

Tulsa and Virginia Tech both went 6-6 SU this season. Both teams played difficult schedules, so this bowl game is a nice reward which means it should be played fast and loose. Tulsa’s offense was explosive under head coach Philip Montgomery who was previously Baylor’s offensive coordinator. Montgomery installed a similar scheme to the one he ran at Baylor, and Tulsa was a scoring machine this year. The Golden Hurricane averaged 35.9 points per game on 6.0 yards per play this season. Their offense was even better away from home where they averaged 36.3 points per game on 6.1 yards per play. Tulsa scored 40 points or more in six of their twelve games with three of those games coming on the road. Tulsa will face a Virginia Tech defense that allowed 30 points per game on 6.0 yards per play against the six bowl teams they played this season.

Virginia Tech’s offensive numbers were skewed this season because starting quarterback Michael Brewer missed five games because of injury. But over the last five games of the season, the Hokies’ offense averaged 28.4 points per game. Overall this season, Virginia Tech averaged 29 points per game against a slate of defensive opponents that only allowed 25.2 points per game on 5.4 yards per play. Virginia Tech will face an atrocious Tulsa defense that allowed 38.6 points per game on 6.5 yards per play. Against six bowl teams this season, the Golden Hurricane gave up 45 points per game on a whopping 7.5 yards per play. Virginia Tech’s offense will face the worst defense they’ve seen all season, and it would be shocking if they didn’t score at least 40 points or more in this game. Look for a high-scoring game between Tulsa and Virginia Tech in the Independence Bowl today.
