I like the home team to get the job done here tonight. Michigan State lost by 13 points at Iowa in the last meeting and they will want to get revenge for that game. Iowa has been playing very strong but they never play well when they come to East Lansing and Sparty is 5-1 ATS the last six times they have hosted the Hawkeyes. Michigan State is 9-3 ATS in its last 12 home games and they are 6-2 ATS in the last eight meetings. Michigan State has won its last two games by more than 20 points and they are back at full strength now that they have their leading scorer Denzel Valentine healthy. I think that this will be a close game in the first half. But Michigan State will turn it on in the second half and pull away for a big blowout win here. Lay the points.

3-Unit Play. Take #760 Arizona (-13.5) over Washington (9 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 14)

I will go with Arizona. They came into the season as the big Pac-12 favorite. But the Wildcats lost their last two games and are just 1-2 in league play. But I think they will be able to take care of business here in their home gym. Arizona has had some tough injuries come up over the last week and will be shorthanded. But this is a very deep team and I think that they will find their scoring on the inside. This is a very balanced Arizona team with seven players averaging at least eight points per game. Washington has not left its home state since November. They are coming off a big OT win against rival Washington State. Lorenzo Romar has gotten a lot of good things out of this team so far this year. But I think Arizona is too motivated here and they will put the clamps down on this Huskies squad. Go with the Wildcats.

4-Unit Play. Take #763 Pittsburgh (+7.5) over Louisville (9 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 14)

The Cardinals are favored because they are at home in this game. But they could lose this game! Pittsburgh went to Notre Dame over the weekend and got an outright win. I think they could do the same down in Louisville. The Panthers have won 10 straight and 14 of 15 games and this number should be closer to 3.5. The Cardinals have lost two of their last four games and they only beat Wake Forest by eight points at home last week. Pittsburgh is better than Wake and will be neck-and-neck in this game. Louisville has not played a strong schedule and this is a younger team for Rick Pitino. I think they will struggle here and Pitt could pull the upset.

4-Unit Play. Take #51 NY Rangers (+105) over NY Islanders (7:00) p.m., Thursday, Jan. 14)

Almost every statistic or trend you see with this match-up will push you towards taking the Islanders. I am here to tell you to not be sold on this. The Rangers are now 1-7-1-1 in their last ten games on the road but 4-3 in their last 7 overall while playing some tough opponents. Their wins over the stretch come from Anaheim, Tampa Bay, Dallas and Boston. Their only losses have come from Washington, Florida and Nashville. They should have won the Washington game but ended up giving up a goal with 5 seconds left in regulation. You can see the Rangers starting to play at a higher level defensively and are finally getting healthy. The Rangers still has the better offense, power play and goalie. The Islanders are 2-3 in their last 5 games while giving up a ton of goals (20). They have only beat Columbus and Dallas over the stretch and have lost to Pittsburgh, Washington and Philly. Look for the Rangers to build on momentum and get their first road win in a while.

3-Unit Play. Take #56 Montreal (+105) over Chicago (7:30) p.m., Thursday, Jan. 14)

The home team is 11-1 over the last twelve games in this match-up and don't see why this will change tonight. Rookie Mike Condon has done his best trying to fill in for Price but is 3-8 over the course with a 2.64 GAA in 11 starts. He won his previous 3 starts before making 29 saves in Saturdays 3-1 loss to Pittsburgh. But Condon has been better at home where he is averaging 2.20 GPG. The Canadians know they need to do a better job in front of Condon defensively and you can see this starting to happen. Look for the Canadians to surprise everyone tonight at home.

2-Unit Play. Take #63 New Jersey (+115) over Colorado (9:30) p.m., Thursday, Jan. 14)

Cory Schneider has been victimized by the Devils pathetic offense over the last five games they have faced the Av's which has resulted in the team going 0-5. But over the course he has posted a 1, 75 GAA and has been producing at that same level as of late. Schneider has a 1.68 GAA in his last six starts but has only won 3 of those games. Now NJ faces a Colorado team that has been awful on defense and the club is now giving up 2.89 goals per game. This is the perfect game for NJ to get their power play working considering Colorado has let their opponents score 25 percent of its chances over the past 14 games. I will take defense over the offense tonight in Colorado.

8 Unit Play Take #51 New York Rangers -105 over New York Islanders (7:05pm est):

The New York Islanders are a team that's dealing with a much bigger injury situation than the betting markets realize. The Islanders lost key defensemen Johnny Boychuk about 2 weeks ago and since his loss they've been a mess on defense allowing nearly 35 shots and 4.4 goals per game in the first five games without him. They dropped 3 of their first 4 games without him and were crushed in the three defeats by combined 13-3 scores. They needed 6 goals to get their only win of the four with a 6-5 victory over Dallas. They got a much needed win last game over Columbus which should help us here as it should take the sense of urgency off the Islanders coming into this game. Don't get too excited about that win either as it came over a Blue Jackets team with fewest points overall in the NHL this season. Keep in mind also that Boychuk leads the Islanders in +/- on the season. Making things even tougher on the Islanders here is the fact they lost another key defensemen in Travis Hamonic also a week ago. This is a team who is dealing with some big injuries and struggling because of it.

This is an intense battle between these two rivals which means there's little doubt that the Rangers will be fired up for this one especially after losing their only other head to head match-up with the Isles this season. The Rangers also come in with the much better goalie here between these two teams. They've been a solid team since coming back from the Christmas break. They've went 3-2 their last 5 games with one loss coming in overtime against a good Washington team and the other defeat they lost to the hottest team in hockey the Florida Panthers despite holding a 40-20 shots on goal edge in the game. The recent play and the injury situations of both these teams currently should mean that this line should be at least another 30 cents higher than it is. I usually don't find edges this big this late in the NHL season but I think the main reason is because the betting markets in all sports struggle with if and how to price injuries to non-superstar players and it's obviously not being factored in any or with enough weight here in this one.

Take the New York Rangers here. My NFL card comes out later today and it's one you need to get aboard as I'm having my best pro football ever this year. I'm also 16-7 in my last 23 top plays for each week the last 23 weeks in the NFL dating back to last season. No one has been better either with their big plays in football the last two years and I will have one today and be announcing that as soon as I get the key injury information so stay tuned. It's a revenge game for one of the best teams in the country. Michigan Stategot demolished down in Iowa on Dec. 29 without Denzel Valentine. Not its timefor the return game and I think it could get ugly. Michigan State is almostunbeatable in the Izzone, and when you give them extra motivation they can playout of their minds. Michigan State has won its last two games by 25 and 27points, respectively, and I think they will jump the Hawkeyes here. Iowa's onlyroad game in league play was a bizarre, fluke win at Purdue. The Hawkeyes weredown 17 points at the half in that one (before a ridiculous 50-point secondhalf) and I see a similar situation here (minus the comeback). Michigan Statebeat Iowa by 14 points on the road and by 10 points at home last year. The lastthree times the Spartans have hosted Iowa, since 2011, they have won by 10, 34and 19 points. The Spartans are 7-3 ATS in their last 10 against the Hawkeyesand I think they will bury the visitors here.

1-Unit Play. Take #735Middle Tennessee State (-3) over Charlotte (7 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 14)
Mark Price's Charlotte team is definitely improving. Just a cursory glance overtheir final scores over the past month shows that. But they still aren't up toMTSU's level and I think the Blue Raiders have too much depth, balance andfirepower. Charlotte is a team that is still learning to play together. MiddleTennessee is a group of guys, 10-deep, that all know their roles and how toplay off one another. I'll go with that cohesiveness.

2-Unit Play. Take #737UL-Lafayette (-7.5) over Georgia Southern (7:30 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 14)
Georgia Southern is one of the worst teams in the Sun Belt and, really, in thecountry. They lost all five starters and their five best players from a reallygood team last year and their replacements have not been up to snuff. TheEagles only have three wins over D-I schools this year and there's a reasonthey are this big of a home underdog. Lafayette was supposed to be a team thatthreatened to win this league. They have been awful to start to the season. Butnow that they've dug themselves a hole I think they are in a position wherethey are getting desperate. Southern is the lowest-ranked team that UL-L hasplayed this year and I think that they are going to lay the wood.

1-Unit Play. Take #760Arizona (-13.5) over Washington (9 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 14)
Arizona got swept up in L.A. last week. You think they are pissed off aboutthat - because I do. Washington is in a letdown spot after an overtime winagainst their rivals, Washington State. Now they have to travel to Tucson toface an angry, focused, motivated Arizona team that is going to rally aroundthe fact that they lost their leading scorer. Everything about this reeks of ablowout for the home team.

2-Unit Play. Take #766Utah (-4.5) over Oregon (10 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 14)
Because they haven't played a home game against real competition in awhile itis easy to forget how good this Utah team is at home. They go apeshit on peoplein their own gym. And after dumping two of their first three Pac-12 games Ithink that they are ready to unload on an Oregon team that is much, much betteron its own floor than it is on the road. The Ducks have only played three roadgames this year - and they have lost all three, including getting blown out atUNLV and at Oregon State. Utah is better than either of those teams and theywill be very motivated tonight.

2-Unit Play. Take #771Pepperdine (-2) over Santa Clara (10 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 14)
I couldn't believe how poorly this veteran Pepperdine team had played out ofthe gate. But they showed some life last week with a big upset win over St.Mary's and I think that momentum will carry into this game against undermannedSanta Clara. This is one of the most experienced teams in the league and theycould be a sleeper team to nab one of the byes for the top seeds if they canget on a rush. But that means taking care of business against overmatchedopponents like the young Broncos.

1-Unit Play. Take #781Pacific (+19) over St. Mary's (11 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 14)
St. Mary's started the year 12-0 ATS. If you bet against them every game therest of the season you should make money, because the books are going to havethe numbers jacked up on them. Pacific only lost at Arizona by 18 and at BYU by14 and this Pacific team is better than its record shows.

2-Unit Play. Take #783California (-3.5) over Stanford (11 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 14)
No bet against Stanford is a bad bet because Stanford sucks. They fluked outwins over Utah and Oregon State, but this team isn't any good. We cashedagainst them with Oregon over the weekend and I'm going right back againstthem. They are home underdogs in this rivalry series for a reason and Cal coulddemolish them tonight. The Golden Bears have lost back-to-back games and Ican't see them losing three in a row. Cal is the much more talented, moreexperienced, more balanced team here. Their guards will weather the storm fromthe crowd and Cal will seal this one with FTs.

1-Unit Play. Take #793East Tennessee State (+1) over Samford (8 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 14)
I think the wrong team is favored here. I'm a big fan of this ETSU team thisyear and I think they may still be undervalued.

I'm a sucker for Belmont. But this line jumped off the page at me because itwas so high. This is not the same caliber Murray State team that we've seen thelast three or four years. They have a weaker coach, weaker players, and they arestill terrible on the road. Belmont will be way up for this game. And theirlack of success ATS over the past few weeks belies the fact that they should bethe best team in the Ohio Valley. Belmont has only played five home games thisyear. They've won them all and shot the ball well while doing it. Great hometeam + Terrible road team + Spread meant to trap the public = solid value.

1-Unit Play. Take #805Morehead State (-6) over SIU-Edwardsville (9 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 14)
Morehead State is 8-2 ATS in its last 10 league games and 9-3 ATS in their last12 road games.

Montana is one of the top teams in the Big Sky and they are capable of justhammering Northern Colorado here. Montana has only played two teams rated 300or lower - both on the road - and they won by six points and by 17 points. Ithink they can do the same here against UNC team that's gotten rolled at homeby teams like Idaho, Denver, Austin Peay and Maryland-BC - all teams much worsethan Montana.

Sacramento hits the road after playing three consecutive home games; the Kings went just 1-2 SU in those games, including last night’s 109-97 loss to the Pelicans. Sacramento must now hit the road, and play on a back-to-back set while playing in the thin air and altitude of Utah. The Kings will face a Utah team that plays at an extremely slow pace while playing excellent team defense. Sacramento has struggled mightily when held to less than 100 points this season. In fact, the Kings are just 2-12 SU when scoring less than 100 points this season with their two wins coming by a combined 8 points. Their average loss when held to less than 100 points has come by 11 points per game. Sacramento is just 1-5 SU on the road when held to less than 100 points with those losses coming by -9.6 points per game.

Utah failed for us last night in their 99-85 loss in Portland, but we have no hesitation in coming right back with the Jazz for the same reasons. Utah is playing much better now that Rudy Gobert is back on the court. Gobert missed a month of action which totaled 18 games; the Jazz went just 7-11 SU in those games. Since Gobert has returned to the starting lineup, Utah is 2-1 SU with their wins coming by 12 and 15 points. The biggest difference with Gobert on the court has been the play of the Utah defense. During that stretch without Gobert, the Jazz gave up 101 points per game while allowing 103 points or more eight times in their eleven losses. In their last three games, Utah has given up a total of 256 points. The Jazz are a perfect 2-0 SU at home when playing off a road loss the night before; Utah won those games by scores of 106-85 and 109-96. We’ll lay the points with Utah in this game on Thursday night.

Connecticut is 11-4 SU on the season, but the Huskies are not in the best of current form right now. They’ve won five of their last six games, but Connecticut is on an 0-3 ATS slide. The Huskies were in a terrific situational spot for their last home game against Memphis, but they barely survived that game in an 81-78 win. Now the Huskies must take to the road after playing six of their last nine games at home. Connecticut has been playing without their starting center, Amida Brimah, due to a finger injury. His absence has really affected Connecticut’s play on both ends of the court, especially inside the paint. Tulsa has the big guys inside to take advantage of Brimah’s absence.

Tulsa returned all five starters this season, including their top eight players from last year’s 24-win team. Tulsa’s offense is explosive; they are averaging 74 points per game. “We finally bought into Coach Haith’s system and the ball movement has been very good for us,” James Woodard said. “We’re getting a lot of assists off each other and moving off the ball, that’s what they’ve been preaching. It’s hard for teams to guard if everybody’s clicking on all cylinders.” Tulsa’s losses this season have come against strong teams like SMU, Cincinnati, South Carolina, and Oregon State. Connecticut is a notch below those teams, and Tulsa matches-up extremely well with the Huskies. We’ll back Tulsa in this game on Thursday night.
