Western Kentucky is just 1-4 ATS in its last five games overall and they will struggle on the road here. Old Dominion has lost three straight games and they are in desperate need of a win here. I think the Monarchs will get it in a big way similar to their 20-point blowout win over WKU last March. The Hilltoppers are just 1-4 ATS in their last five league games and I'm going with the home team in this one.

2-Unit Play. Take #737 Wisconsin (-3) over Penn State (7 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 21)

I like the Badgers to take care of business here. They are coming off a nice win over Michigan State over the weekend and have gone 4-1 ATS in their last five games. The Badgers have also dominated the Nittany Lions, beating them seven straight times. Wisconsin is 0-11 ATS in the last 11 meetings in this series! But that streak is a fluke. Most of those spreads were double-digits. This spread is way too low and the Badgers are a much better team than Penn State. The Nittany Lions are just 2-4 SU in their last six games and have been blown out in a lot of those losses. Wisconsin will hold on and win a close one and they will beat this low number in the process.

2-Unit Play. Take #753 USC (+4.5) over Oregon (9 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 21)

I will take the points in this game. USC is one of the top teams in the Pac-12 and I think they have a great chance to get an upset here. They have won three straight games and are 10-1 in their last 11 overall. They have only lost one time during league play and last week they blew out UCLA on the road. USC also has a blowout win over Washington State on the road and have won three of their four road games. The Trojans are 18-7 ATS in their last 25 games overall and 4-1 ATS in Pac-12 play. I think they get the job done.

2-Unit Play. Take #756 UTEP (-7.5) over Florida Atlantic (9 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 21)

This one should be an easy win for the home team. Florida Atlantic is coming off an upset win at home. But they are just 2-8 ATS in their last 10 road games. UTEP has lost three straight games. But all three were on the road and the Miners have gone 3-1 ATS despite their recent slide. The Owls are one of the weakest teams in the Sun Belt and they are just 4-9 ATS in their last 13 overall. UTEP is the much better program here and they will get this win.

2-Unit Play. Take #769 Utah (-4.5) over Washington State (9 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 21)

I think the Utes will get a rare road win here. This team is not good away from home. But they are favored for a reason in this one. Washington State is just 1-4 SU in its last five games. Most of their losses have been blowouts and that includes a 24-point loss at Arizona last weekend. Utah is coming off a nice win over Oregon State and they dominated Washington State last year, winning both games easily. Utah has too much size on the inside for this young Cougars team. Lay the points.

The two hottest teams in the NHL take the ice in this one but keeping their big winning streak going for Chicago can't match the revenge part of this game for Tampa Bay. The Lightning lost last year in the Stanley Cup Finals to this Blackhawks squad. They faced them early this season and dropped a close 1-0 game in overtime but that game was in Chicago. This is the first time the Lightning have had the Blackhawks back at home since last year's Finals defeat. That reason along with a fired up crowd should push them over the top in this one.

Take away the Pittsburgh debacle the other night and the Canes are 4-1 in their last 5 games while playing at a much higher level than they were earlier in the year. The key for this Carolina team is scoring over 2 goals. Each win over their last 10 games have come when the offense produces 3 or more goals. This is good news for the Canes because Toronto is ranked 21st in the NHL in goals against and have been playing some of their worst hockey of the season as of late. Similar to the Canes the Maple Leafs have been struggling finding goals but in contrast they have also been giving up a bunch. In their last 6 games they are averaging 3.5 goals against per game. I like the way Carolina is playing and think their offense can put up some points against this Maple Leaf squad.

4-Unit Play. Take #5 Ottawa (+115) over New Jersey (7:00) p.m., Thursday, Jan. 21)

Take a look at the brutal schedule the Senators have played over the course of January: @ Blackhawks, @ Blues, Panthers, Bruins, @ Capitals, @ Ducks, @ Kings, and @ the Sharks. Over the 8 total games they are 4-4 and 3-3 in the away games. This is the toughest schedule I have seen anyone play this month and now the Sens get to finish their road trip in New Jersey tonight. New Jersey may have the better defense but I like how this Senator team is starting to play and with the brutal schedule now behind them they look ahead knowing they can play anyone. I think this Ottawa team has what it takes to make the playoffs again this year and I don't believe NJ is even close. Take the away team in this match-up.

Just take Chicago wherever and whenever they are playing. They are finding ways to win and it doesn't matter who or where they are playing. Memphis hits the road after playing six consecutive home games; the Grizzlies went 5-1 SU in those games, including a 91-84 win over Denver. Memphis will be playing their first road game in 15 days, and they will be doing so in the thin air and altitude of Denver. That’s not a good thing, especially for a team that has been cozy and comfy at home for the past two weeks. The Grizzlies are also playing with a hobbled point guard; Mike Conley is dealing with a lingering achilles injury that has limited his explosiveness. Conley is a liability on the court, especially on the defensive end against Denver who has two quick guards who can penetrate the lane while looking for easy baskets in transition. In their last meeting, Memphis only won by 7 points at home despite out-shooting the Nuggets 44%-21% from three-point land; they were +12 in points from beyond the arc.

Denver will play the fifth game of their 8-game home stand tonight; the Nuggets have alternated wins and losses over their last four games. Denver comes in off a 110-104 loss to Oklahoma City on Tuesday night. The Nuggets’ offense struggled mightily in that game as they only shot 42% (35-for-83) from the field. Denver’s problem in that game was rebounding as the Thunder grabbed 52 boards, including 16 offensive rebounds. Denver is 0-13 SU this season when getting out-rebounded, but the Nuggets should dominate the glass tonight. In the last meeting in Memphis, the Nuggets held a 59-43 rebounding edge, including a 19-11 edge on the offensive glass. The Grizzlies have historically struggled in Denver; Memphis is 3-26 SU their last 29 visits to the Mile High City. We’ll take the points with Denver in this game on Thursday night.

Arizona State surprised many by opening the season with a 10-3 SU record. Since their hot start, the Sun Devils are just 1-4 during their last five games. Arizona State is simply in terrible current form, and that has coincided with the step-up in class. The Sun Devils are just 1-3 in their last four road games, including 0-2 on the road in conference play. All three of those losses have come by 7 points or more with their average loss coming by -10.3 points per game. Arizona State’s defense has been terrible away from home all season; the Sun Devils are giving up 72.2 points per game on 46.5% shooting from the field and 40.4% shooting from three-point land. Over their last five games, their defense has been even worse while allowing 82.4 points per game on 50.2% shooting from the field and 46.9% shooting from three-point land.

California returns home off three straight road losses, so they’ll be ready for a peak performance in this game. The Golden Bears are a perfect 11-0 SU at home where they own an incredible +18.1 point differential this season. California is averaging 78.5 points per game on 47.9% shooting from the field and 34.5% shooting from three-point land at home this season. California did lose Tyrone Wallace to a hand injury, but he was playing out of position at point guard when he’s a natural wing player. Wallace’s absence will open up the California offense because they’ll be led by true point guard, Sam Singer. California is the better team and they are desperate for win, so we’ll lay the points with the Golden Bears in this game on Thursday night.

USC has shocked the Pac-12 Conference so far this season. The Trojans come into this game at Oregon with a 15-3 SU record, including a 4-1 mark in conference play. USC was picked to finish tenth in the Pac-12 over the summer because the team is loaded with youth and inexperience. But the Trojans have overachieved thus far, and tonight’s game against a veteran Oregon team is an extremely difficult challenge. USC will be playing on a back-to-back road set for just the third time this season; they lost the second game of back-to-backs their two previous times. And those games came against much lesser competition like Monmouth-NJ and Washington. The Trojans’ defense comes into this game in poor current form as well; they’ve allowed 81 points per game over their last five games.

Oregon returns home off back-to-back road games with their last being a 91-87 loss at Colorado. The Ducks are a perfect 11-0 SU at home where they own a terrific +13.9 point differential this season. Oregon is averaging 78.4 points per game on 46.2% shooting from the field at home this season. The Ducks’ defense has also been fantastic at home where they are holding opponents to just 64.5 points per game on 40.4% shooting from the field and 30% shooting from three-point land. Oregon is a perfect 3-0 when playing off a loss this season, winning those games by an average of +12.7 points per game. Oregon is simply the better team, so we’ll lay the points with the Ducks in this game on Thursday night.

We roll with Rider here for our first selection. Rider has quietly gone 6-3 over their last 9 contests. This is a team that is ranked around the top 240 this year and has a lot of bite. This is a squad that that just beat a top 150 of Iona at home to their credit. Heck, this team only lost by 8 points to Provdience on the road as well to their credit. This is a Rider team that could have a decent amount of bite here at Siena and as Siena comes off the ugly loss to Monmouth and who very well might still be hung over from the loss. We have Rider hanging in a tight contest here.

3-Unit Play. #795. Take Eastern Illinois +9 over Murray State (Thursday @ 8pm est)
Eastern Illinois is a squad that has a lot of bite as well as they hook up against Murray State. This is a team is a great public fade as well. Note, that Eastern Illinois is not as well known as Murray State but EIC (Eastern Illinois) has a lot more bite than people realize. EIC has only 6 wins, but note that this team is 4-2 over its last 6 games. Sure, this team is ranked in the top 270 and it doesn't seem that impressive, but they just beat top 140 Morehead State at home in overtime and also beat Eastern Kentucky by 12 points who is a top 230 team as well. This team is on the rise and has revenge from losing to Murray State last year as well. Quality public fade as we roll with the nice underdog here.

3-Unit Play. #721. Take Drexel +10 over James Madison (Thursday @ 7pm est)
Drexel is a decent sized underdog for us here that we like as they hook up against JMU. Drexel is a 3 win team and we love the fact they can fall within single digits here. This team is on an up tick per our models and that means something to us. Drexel is a squad who is actually a top 125 defense in the nation, recently beat College of Charleston a top 125 team at home by 7 points, hung within single digits to top 100 Hofstra, comes off a bad loss and will be looking to bounce-back here in a big way. Note, that JMU is also a top 100 team, has Elon deck and as they come off a huge win against Hofstra, likely is in for a let down here. JMU by 7 this evening.

3-Unit Play. #723. Take Delaware +14.5 over UNC Wilmington (Thursday @ 7pm est)
Final selection on the docket today is Delaware as they hook up against UNC Wilmington. Delaware is a team that has 5 wins but these are the teams that we look for. These ugly underdogs that we find great value in. Note that Delaware has lost 9 in a row but take a closer look. You will realize that this team only lost to Northeastern by 9 points at home, only lost to top 175 Towson by 2 points, to top 100 James Madison by 10 points, to top 100 Hofstra by 10 points and is a top 100 offensive rebounding team. They face a Wilmington team who comes off a huge win over William and Mary in overtime, is in for a let down here and is a poor 3 point shooting team so they likely will go inside the paint and face a Delaware team that is decent on the glass. Look for a low scoring game that likely will have Delaware staying within the big lay here.

5-Unit Play. #708. Take Sacramento -1 over Atlanta (Thursday @ 10:05pm est)
We roll with our 5-unit selection here on Sacramento as they face Atlanta. Note Sacramento lost to Atlanta earlier this year in a contest we watched from wire to wire. Sacramento went up early, only to go down at halftime and then make a big comeback as they ended up nearly beating the Hawks outright on the road as +2.5 underdogs and fell short by 6 points. That speaks volumes when the oddsmakers only put them as a 2.5 point underdog as they felt that Karl was coaching for his job each and every game on the East Coast Road Trip. And, this team has rewarded Ranadive's faith in Karl thus far though he still has a short string. Sacramento has won 3 straight, including beating Utah, the Clippers and Lakers. This team is in the hunt for the 8th spot as they have 18 wins and a win over an Eastern Conference elite team like Atlanta would go a long way. Decent public fade as well and with revenge, Karl coming out and saying Cousins is the best center in the league as a vote of confidence and beating OKC in OKC, says a lot about this team's growth. Kings by 8 this evening.

I love a team that gets the job done on both sides of the basket. They are averaging 85 points while only giving up 72 points per game. The Trojans have four players that score double digits every game. That''s difficult to defend against. Oregon does not score enough points averaging 75 ppg to be this type of a favorite. The Ducks are 11-0 at home but they have not played this quality of team. This game will go back and forth with many lead changes and much strategy employed. USC will never be out of reach and should win this game outright. A ML bet of 35% of your bet is in line with the other portion on the +4.5 points offered. The dog has covered the spread in 8 of the last 10 games. Furthermore, the Trojans are 18-7 ATS in the last 25 games (72%). Take advantage of the lack of perception when it comes to USC basketball.
