273 Ohio St. / 274 Clemson UNDER 61.0 WestgateAnalysis: We have the #5 and #9 Defense Teams in Division 1 squaring off in this game and there is no doubt of course that this is a Big Game for each as the winner will play for all the Marbles. It's hard to imagine why Odds Makers have set this one as high as they have considering the facts above. Both of these teams have strong defensive team speed. Ohio State especially has been very stingy with points allowed this season. What is most interesting is that this will be the highest Posted Point Total for Michigan over their last 10 games played. We love this game to go UNDER and all 4 of our CFB Totals Models agree with us. Those Models actually pick totals differently but each of them project Mid 50's for this game. I am not ready to tell you what you can play this number down to because there are some injury situations to go over but the current number is good enough for us.

Ohio State's only loss came when Penn State blocked a punt and a field goal in the fourth quarter, returning the blocked field goal for a touchdown in a 24-21 comeback victory on Oct. 22. The Buckeyes are well tested this season. They have been here before, taking care of business to tie things in regulation against Michigan and Wisconsin, before winning in overtime, and also beating Michigan State and Northwestern in one-score games. For Clemson, Deshaun Watson has thrown 15 interceptions and against OSU's secondary and the added pressure of this game, those stats will change. Ohio State’s Malik Hooker is one of the best safeties in the country. The sophomore has 6 interceptions, returning three for touchdowns. Ohio State’s standout defense did not allow an opponent to score more than 30 points in 2016. Ohio State ranked third nationally in turnover margin with a plus-16 mark this fall. The Buckeyes gained 25 turnovers and only lost nine in 12 games. On the other sideline, Clemson ranked 68th nationally. Offensively for Ohio St, Quarterback J.T. Barrett, running back Mike Weber and athletic runner/receiver Samuel helped Ohio State average 480 yards and 40.2 points a game. Junior Barrett has passed for 2,428 yards and 24 touchdowns and rushed for 847 yards and nine touchdowns. He is 26-3 as a starter. It will be a great game with Ohio St coming out on top.

The Bama point spread opened at -14. Then it went to -15 and then -16. The public couldn't stop betting on them. Then the smart money got involved moving the line back to -14 where it currently stands. To cover this, look for Washington to use their ground game to get yardage and eat up the clock. Huskies sophomore Myles Gaskin fuels the running attack with 1,339 yards and 10 touchdowns. Junior backup Lavon Coleman sports a stellar 7.8 average while rushing for 836 yards and seven touchdowns. The Huskies have more speed than Bama has seen all season. Additionally, the SEC has not had to come up against great passing quarterback like Washington has on the field. Good QB's don't end up in the SEC because those great defenses will slaughter them. Sophomore quarterback Jake Browning passed for 3,280 yards and a school-record 42 touchdowns while winning Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Year honors. He threw a school-record six touchdown passes twice this season, and is considered to be just scratching his potential. This is a very balanced quick team. Special teams could enter the picture in a big way and favor the PAC-12 representative. Washington hopes to get a big play in the return game. Junior receiver John Ross, who caught 76 passes for 1,122 yards and 17 touchdowns, has four career kickoff-return touchdowns. Junior wideout Dante Pettis (14 touchdown catches this season) has five career punt-return scores. These are the type of plays that have the underdog cover a double-digit spread. We have read and seen just about every play and every highlight on Sportscenter for the entire season on Alabama. No need to tell you that 70% of the country loves them.

Washington went 12-1 SU this season with their lone loss coming against USC who closed the season by winning eight consecutive games. Washington’s offense averaged 44.5 points per game on 7.1 yards per play versus defenses that allowed 33.0 points per game on 6.1 yards per play. The Huskies were well-balanced on offense as they ran for 210 yards per game and threw for 267 yards per game. Washington’s offense travelled well, and they actually averaged more points per game (48.0) and more yards per play (7.6) than their overall season averages. The Huskies are led by shrewd head coach Chris Petersen who has experience knocking off big name teams in bowl games while at Boise State.

Alabama steamrolled their opponents en route to a perfect 13-0 SU regular season. There is no question that Alabama has the most talented team in the country. However, the pointspread in this game is simply way too high. My power ratings only make Alabama -10, so there’s a lot of value in taking Washington as a two-touchdown underdog. Alabama’s offense faced defenses that gave up 26.0 points per game on 5.6 yards per play. The Crimson Tide will will now face a Washington defense that only gave up 17.2 points per game on 4.6 yards per play this season (versus opponents that averaged 29.3 ppg and 5.7 yppl). Washington is plenty capable of keeping this game close throughout, so we’ll take the points with the Huskies in the Peach Bowl on Saturday afternoon.

Ohio State went 11-1 SU this season with their lone loss coming by 3 points at Penn State. Ohio State played a brutal schedule this season while facing nine teams that made a bowl game. Overall, the Buckeyes’ offense averaged 42.7 points per game on 6.1 yards per play versus defenses that only allowed 26.4 points per game on 5.4 yards per play. Ohio State owns a potent rushing attack that averaged 258 yards per game on 5.5 yards per rush. They put those numbers up against defenses that only gave up 165 rushing yards per game on 4.2 yards per rush. Clemson’s defense gave up 150 rushing yards or more in four games this season and the Tigers allowed 36, 34, and 43 points in three games of those games. Clemson lost to Pittsburgh, and were fortunate in coming back from fourth quarter deficits against Florida State and Louisville.

Clemson had another strong season by going 12-1 SU, but as mentioned above, they were extremely fortunate to not have more losses. The Tigers certainly have a terrific team, but this is a poor matchup for them against Ohio State. Clemson’s offense faced defenses that gave up 27.2 points per game on 5.5 yards per play. The Tigers will will now face an Ohio State defense that only gave up 14.2 points per game on 4.3 yards per play versus offenses that averaged 30.2 points per game on 5.7 yards per play. My power ratings make Ohio State -3.5 over Clemson, so laying less than a field goal with the Buckeyes presents solid value in the Fiesta Bowl on Saturday night.

We roll with Notre Dame in this early game as these seniors in Notre Dame want to beat Pittsburgh for their first time. If you take a look bac, you will see that Notre Dame for as good as they have been for as long as they have been, they have yet to Pittsburgh over the last few years under Jamie Dixon. It's quite surprising actually. So, these seniors will want to taste victory for at least 1 time over Pittsburgh. Sure, Pitt has a new coach and he will want to do well here, but that's a moot point given that these guys will have a strong motivation to do well. Plus, Notre Dame is the better team. This is a squad that has beat the likes of Colorado, Northwestern and Iowa this year all sound teams in the power rankings and they are top 10 in offense and 2nd in the nation in turnover percentage. They face a Pitt team who is outside the top 130 in offense and outside the top 200 in offensive rebounding so it could be a lot of one and done here on the offensive end for Notre Dame. We like the Irish, the better team, the highly motivated team to do well here this early Saturday Afternoon.

The Charlotte 49ers will look to break their three game losing streak when they take on the North Texas Mean Green at the Dale F. Halton Arena in Charlotte, NC on Saturday afternoon. Charlotte has posted a 12-3-1 ATS record in their last sixteen home games where they faced a team with a losing record on the road and they have gone an excellent 18-7-1 ATS in their last 26 home games overall. The Mean Green, on the other hand, have struggled a bit in the spot they are in here today as they have gone just 3-12-1 ATS in their last sixteen road games and they have failed to cover the number in 18 of their last 22 games where they faced a team with a winning record. Throw in the fact that the home team is a perfect 4-0 ATS in the last four head to head meetings between the two teams and we'll lay the points here with the 49ers to get the home win and cover in a game that we have them winning by double digits in Charlotte on Saturday afternoon.

3 Unit Play. Take #537 Louisville -3 over Indiana (12:30 PM, Saturday, December 31, CBS)

The Louisville Cardinals will look to bounce back from their loss to Virginia when they take on the Indiana Hoosiers at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, IN on Saturday afternoon. The Cardinals have posted a perfect 4-0 ATS record in their last four non-conference games and they have gone an excellent 6-1-1 ATS in their last eight games where they faced a team from the Big 10. The Hoosiers, on the other hand, have struggled a bit in the spot they are in here today as they have gone just 2-2 straight up in their last four games with losses to Butler and Nebraska sandwiched around wins over Austin Peay and Delaware St. Throw in the fact that Louisville has gone a lights out 28-13 ATS in their last 41 non-conference games and we'll lay the bucket or so here with them to get the win and cover over Indiana in Indianapolis on Saturday afternoon.

4 Unit Play. Take #541 Villanova PK over Creighton (1:00 PM, Saturday, December 31, FS1)

The Villanova Wildcat will look to extend their winning streak to fourteen games to start the 2016/17 season when they hit the road to take on the Creighton Blue Jays at the CenturyLink Center in Omaha, NE on Saturday afternoon. The Wildcats have posted a 7-1 ATS record in their last eight road games where they faced a team with a home winning % of .600 or greater and they have gone an excellent 18-7-1 ATS in their last 26 road games overall. They have also gone 11-5 ATS in their last sixteen games following a straight up win and they have covered the number in 36 of their last 52 games following an ATS loss. Throw in the fact that Nova is a lights out 45-22-1 ATS over the last few seasons when they faced a team with a winning record and we'll take the point or so with them here in a game that our numbers have them winning outright at Creighton on Saturday afternoon.

4 Unit Play. Take #553 Drexel +1.5 over James Madison (2:00 PM, Saturday, December 31)

The Drexel Dragons will look to get their record back to the .500 mark this season when they hit the road to take on the James Madison Dukes at the JMU Convocation Center in Harrisonburg, VA on Sunday afternoon. The Dragons have posted a 7-3-1 ATS record in their last eleven games played on a Saturday for whatever reason and they have gone an excellent 4-1 ATS in their last five CAA games. The Dukes, on the other hand, have struggled a bit in the spot they are in here today as they have gone an awful 20-40-2 in their last 62 home games versus a team with a losing record and they have failed to cover the number in each of their last four games overall. Throw in the fact that JMU is also 0-4 ATS in their last four home games and we'll take the bucket or so here with the Dragons to get the outright road in Virginia on Saturday afternoon.

4 Unit Play. Take #573 Wyoming -1 over UNLV (4:00 PM, Saturday, December 31)

The Wyoming Cowboys will look for their ninth win in their last ten games when they hit the road to take on the UNLV Runnin' Rebels at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, NV on Saturday afternoon. The Cowboys have posted a 4-1 ATS record in their last five games following an ATS win and they have gone an excellent 6-1 ATS in their last seven road games. The Rebels, on the other hand, have struggled a bit in the spot they are in here today as they have gone just 1-5 ATS in their last six games following a game where they allowed more than 90 points and they are an awful 0-6 ATS in their last six Mountain West games going back to the end of last season. Throw in the fact that the road team has covered the number in five of the last seven head to head meetings between the two teams and we'll lay the point or so here with Wyoming to get the road win and cover in Vegas on Saturday afternoon.

Paul Leiner:The College Football Final Four is here and I just do not see Washington being able to hang with Alabama. Alabama beat USC 52-6 behind the top ranked defense in the nation. USC beat Washington pretty handily. Washington will need balance on offense and Bama gives up only 63 yards per game on the ground and if Washington is forced to throw every down the Tide defense will simply tee off on Browning. Alabama wins this game by at least 3 touchdowns. Lets hit this.

We roll with the Under here because both these teams have monumental motivation to do well. Note, that you have a Clippers team that got routed in the most ugly way possible at the hands of the Rockets 116-140 and you have an OKC team that saw Russell Westbrook ejected that saw his team losing 80-114 to Memphis (this was a 7u play for us as we were on Memphis). Hence, we like both these teams to come out strong defensively and because you could see the Clippers as an active underdog we stayed away from making it a larger play. But, per this play, we like both these teams, who are sound defensive teams when the motivation is there to come out strong and play well defensively.
