Saskatchewan is coming on and this spot sets up well for the Roughriders. The Roughriders have won three of their last five and off probably their most impressive performance of the season beating BC, 41-8, two weeks ago. Saskatchewan was idle last week. Both their offensive and defensive line played well for Saskatchewan in that win against BC. Kevin Glenn has thrown 14 TD passes in seven games. Edmonton lost for the first time this season falling on the road to Winnipeg last week. The Eskimos may be down following that defeat. They also have a huge look-ahead matchup for their next game when they meet Calgary with first place in the Western Division at stake. Given their lengthy injury list, it's not surprising the Eskimos finallly lost after opening with seven consecutive victories. They have close to 20 players hurt, including JC Sherritt, Adarius Bowman, John White, Brandon Zylstra, Almondo Sewell and Marcus Howard. The Roughriders have lost 15 straight road games versus division foes. Expect that to change with Chris Jones in charge. This is just Jones' second year as Roughriders coach. He's one of the top coaches in the league. Edmonton has failed to cover in 10 of its last 14 home games. The Eskimos also haven't covered during their past three games against the Roughriders with two of the past three going into overtime.

The Astros aren't playing well losing 16 of their last 25. They aren't likely to have AL batting leader Jose Altuve either. But I like them, especially at this price, to take care of business against the Angels. Houston is 8-0 the past eight times Collin McHugh has started against the Angels. He gets the call here looking better and better since returning from an elbow injury that had sidelined him for much of the season. McHugh blanked the A's in his last start this past Saturday going six innings. McHugh has a 2.55 lifetime ERA versus the Angels. That ERA shrinks even more to 2.25 when he's pitched at Angel Stadium. Mike Trout is the key to the Angels and he's in a 3-for-23 slump. Parker Bridwell has been a major surprise for the Angels. The Angels are unbeaten in his last eight starts. I don't see that continuing. McHugh is the better pitcher and the Astros are the superior team even without Altuve.

The Pittsburgh Pirates come to Great American Ballpark after losing three out of four games to the LA Dodgers. The Pirates are now 8 1/2 games out of a wild-card spot and need to go on a large winning streak if they have any chance of making the playoffs. Tonight we believe they will get the offense going as the face the Reds RH Robert Stephenson (1-4, 6.13) Stephenson has had one of those years for the Reds. In April and May, he was coming out of the Reds bullpen, then he was sent down to Triple-A for June. He was on the DL at the beginning of August and now he will be making his fifth start of the year for the Reds. Although he has been pitching well of late we must remember in 8 starts last year he sported a 6.08 ERA. In addition, the last time he faced these Pirates at Great American Ballpark he came out of the pen to allow 4 runs in 2 2/3 innings.
The Reds will face the Pirates RH Ivan Nova (11-10, 3.81 ERA) and they have had the best of Nova so far this year. In 12 innings pitched Nova has allowed 8 runs to the Reds. These games were earlier in the year when Nova was pitching very well. He comes into this game sporting a 5.00 ERA with a WHIP of 1.50 in his last 3 starts. We believe the Reds will get to him again tonight.
Backing our selection is the fact that the OVER is 9-2 in Reds last 11 vs. National League Central and the fact the OVER is 5-1 in Pirates last 6 games vs. a right-handed starter. The line at the time of this writing is 9 1/2 and our numbers had this line at 10.3 so tons of value here as well, as this game soars well over the posted total.

In the week where most of the #1's are going to play into the third quarter, we'll lay the two or so points with the Patriots against just about anyone in the league. The line tells us all we need to know, even though it's the preseason because the 0-2 Patriots are listed as the favorite on the road against the Lions. New England has won at least two preseason games each of the last four seasons and while they may or not win in Week 4 to make it five in a row, we should see a strong effort from them on Friday. The Pats are just the better of the two teams and they have put up points in their two defeats. This is the opposite of the Lions, who have struggled to move the ball despite being 2-0. Throw in the fact that Jim Caldwell is just 2-4 in Week 3 games and we're going to lay the points with New England to get the road win and cover in the Motor City on Friday night.

1 Unit Play. Take #257 Kansas City Chiefs +3 over Seattle Seahawks (8:00 PM, Friday, August 25, CBS)

Normally we would lay off this one as both Andy Reid and Pete Carrol are good Week 3 preseason coaches but we think the Chiefs now have an advantage in this one. Seattle lost their starting left guard to an ACL injury in Week 2 and it now seems that they are scrambling to find someone to plug in there. This could mean less time for Russel Wilson as the Chiefs have one of the better defensive lines in the game. Throw in the fact that the aforementioned Andy Reid is an impressive 12-6 in his career in the third week of the preseason and we're taking the points here with the Chiefs in a game that we think they can win outright in Seattle on Friday night.
