The Brewers regained some needed confidence going 6-2 in their last eight games, including posting a combined five victories against the powerful Dodgers and Nationals.
Milwaukee is going with maybe its best pitcher, Chase Anderson. He's been solid in his three starts since returning from the DL. The Brewers have a rested Corey Knebel giving them a strong bullpen edge, too. Anderson is 2-1 with a 2.27 ERA in six career starts versus the Reds. Reds starter Homer Bailey was once a promising pitcher. Injuries have messed him up. He really shouldn't be in a starting rotation with just five quality outings in 13 starts. Bailey is at his worst pitching at hitter-friendly Great American Ball Park and during the day. That's the situation for him today. Bailey is 0-5 with a 9.95 ERA at home this season. In day action this season, he's 1-4 with a 13.29 ERA.


MLB MONDAY NIGHT SWEEP

The Rays rank eighth in the majors in homers. They have hit at least one homer in 14 straight games. The Twins can't match that power. The pitching matchup favors the Rays, too, with Jose Berrios versus Alex Cobb. Berrios has a very high ceiling. But he has not been good on the road going 4-5 with a 5.12 ERA. Cobb is underrated. He should have more wins that he does. He has a 2.20 ERA in his last three starts, none of which resulted in a win for him. Cobb also is 1-0 lifetime against Minnesota with a 2.53 ERA in two career starts.





Rangers - A. Cashner -R vs Braves - R.A. Dickey -R

Texas has been strong during interleague going 12-5. The Rangers should be focused trailing by three games for the second AL wild-card spot. The Braves are going with a lot of youth with three-fourths of their infield being rookies. The only non-rookie in the infield is Freddie Freeman their best player. Freeman is having his wrist examined today so there's a chance he might not be in the lineup. That would be a huge plus for Rangers starter Andrew Cashner, who has been pitching his most consistent ball of his career. Cashner has held five of his last six opponents to two earned runs or less. He went 5-1 with a 2.58 ERA during July/August. The Braves are pitching 42-year-old knuckleballer R.A. Dickey. There's always a wild card factor when a knuckleballer takes the mound. But the Rangers have incentive, are going with a hot pitcher and the youthful Braves may not have their full concentration since this is their first game back from a seven-game road trip.

The Eskimos are calling this their biggest game of the year. The line is inflated so the Eskimos with this many points are the right side. Edmonton has lost two in a row after opening 7-0. I don't see the Eskimos being flat a second straight week. The Eskimos are starting to get their injured players back, including wide receiver Brandon Zylstra. Wide receivers Adarius Bowman and Vidal Hazelton both are expected to play now, too, along with offensive lineman Simeon Rottier. The Stampeders are the best team in the CFL. But Calgary hasn't played an above .500 opponent during its last four games. I don't see the Stampeders winning by double-digits here.

4-unit Play Take #979 Texas Rangers (-105) over Atlanta Braves (7:35pm EST) The Texas Rangers are still in the AL Wild Card race just three games behind the Twins. There are technically seven teams within four games of the second wild card spot, but the Rangers have the best run differential of the bunch at +33. At this point they might be wishing they never traded away Yu Darvish, but the team clearly hasn't given up. Andrew Cashner gets the ball for Texas and he's stepped up big in 2017 with a 3.38 ERA despite some fairly weak peripheral numbers. He's going to come back to earth at some point, but he's coming off of a gem last time out in Houston. He went eight innings against the Astros while allowing just one run on three hits, without issuing a walk. If that carries over into Atlanta, the Braves are going to have a hard time mustering much offense. Atlanta is playing some younger guys down the stretch and winning isn't a big priority for them. As a result, I like Texas behind Cashner in this interleague battle.

Both these teams come in with many starters back from last season's nine win teams, but both also will have new QB's. Tennessee has had a battle for the open slot following a successful run by Joshua Dobbs, who was also their leading rusher last season. Georgia Tech will likely have Matthew Jordan running the option and I like the work he's done to get prepped for it in the off-season. The rating differential between these two has Tennessee by 4-points, and this is a neutral field, or is it? It's in Atlanta. Give me the points with the Rambling Wreck.

Wish I'd jumped on this earlier, but I still think Tech is the right side. The Yellow Jackets are 5-1 in their last six games against SEC foes, and they're facing a Vols side that lost most of its big offensive weapons from a year ago. Georgia Tech's leading rusher was dismissed, but the team has a stable of backs capable of replacing him. Look for the Jackets to build on the momentum from last year's strong finish.

Tennessee had one of the worst run defenses among major-conference teams in the country last year, and the Volunteers don't look to have improved much in that regard. This is bad news against a Georgia Tech team that is noted for shredding opponents that are inexperienced against the triple option. The loss of leading rusher Dedrick Mills, who was dismissed form the team, is a blow for the Yellow Jackets. But I still like them to get the best of a Tennessee club that could be headed toward a down year.
