49ers ILB Reuben Foster (high-ankle sprain) has shed his walking boot.

Foster seems to be progressing quickly — he was claiming he would be ready for Week 2 — but he'll likely miss at least one more game after going down in Week 1.

James Harrison has played just four snaps through the Steelers' first two games.

Even with some injuries to their front seven, the Steelers have kept 39-year-old Harrison glued to the sideline. "We know what James is capable of," coach Mike Tomlin said. "James will ready himself, and there will be a time in the season when we’ll call on his services, and he’ll deliver and deliver in a big way." Harrison was excellent in 2016, generating consistent heat. Right now, the Steelers would apparently rather go with their younger players. Perhaps they view Harrison as an ace in the hole, or perhaps he started to look his age in the offseason.

Jerry Jones said Dak Prescott (ankle) will be ready for Week 3.

"He is going to be able to play Monday," Jones said. There never seemed to be much concern about Prescott's status, but it is still good to hear.

Rob Kelley (ribs) was limited in Wednesday's practice.

Kelley left Week 2 with a ribs issue, but he's merely dealing with a bruise. Though painful, Kelley is expected to play against the Raiders on Sunday night.

Kelvin Benjamin (ribs. knee) did not practice Wednesday.

Benjamin got crunched in the end zone against the Bills, but he stayed in the game. He admitted he's just sore. With Greg Olsen (foot) on I.R., Benjamin could be in for a heavy spike in targets as a possible Week 3 breakout.

Sam Bradford (knee) is practicing Wednesday.

As long as Bradford doesn't have any setbacks and his knee responds well to practice this week, he'll be out there against the Bucs on Sunday. Obviously, Bradford avoiding setbacks isn't something to take for granted.

Rob Gronkowski (groin) is practicing on Wednesday.

Gronkowski has already said the groin injury he suffered in the Week 2 win over the Saints is minor. He's fully expected to suit up against the Texans on Sunday.

Danny Amendola (concussion) is also practicing Wednesday.

Isaiah Crowell said he talked to coach Hue Jackson about getting him more carries.

Crowell has opened the season against a pair of tough run defenses in the Steelers and Ravens and has managed just 70 rushing yards on 27 carries (2.59 YPC) along with 33 yards on two catches. Jackson wants to get him the ball more, but we've heard him say this before. The good news is the schedule softens a bit with the Colts, Bengals, and Jets on deck for the Browns, even though the Colts are second in the league in run defense after two weeks.

Also said Jarvis Landry's knee injury is not serious.

Packers OLB Nick Perry will undergo surgery on his injured hand.

The injury is only expected to sideline him a couple weeks, but it is another injury blow for a Packers defense which also could be without Mike Daniels (hip) this week. Ahmad Brooks should see more snaps with Perry out.

Tyler Eifert (knee, back) did not practice Thursday.

After also missing Wednesday's session, it seems unlikely Eifert is ready to go this week

Randall Cobb (chest) is listed as doubtful for Week 3 against the Bengals.

This should move Jordy Nelson into the slot with Geronimo Allison and Davante Adams as the Packers' outside receivers versus Cincinnati. Nelson missed essentially all of the last game, but he practiced all week and called his Week 2 knee/quad injury a "charley horse."

Evan Engram is no longer listed on the Giants' Week 3 injury report.

He was originally listed as questionable, but apparently passed his final test in the concussion protocol.

Colts RCB Vontae Davis (groin) is listed as doubtful for Week 3.

Davis was able to get in some practice reps this week and looks on track to return in Week 4 barring setbacks.

Amari Cooper is no longer listed on the Raiders' Week 3 injury report.

Cooper was limited in Wednesday and Thursday's practices with some sort of knee ailment, which was the case in Weeks 1 and 2, as well. Just as he was in Weeks 1 and 2, Cooper will be all systems go for Week 3 against Washington.

Jordan Reed (chest, shoulder, toe) is questionable for Week 3 against the Raiders.

Reed considers himself a "game-time decision" after putting in two limited practices this week. He's dealing with a variety of injuries including a broken toe that's hampered him since training camp.

Kelvin Benjamin (knee, ribs) wasn't listed on the Panthers' final injury report for Week 3 against the Saints.

Benjamin was absent for Wednesday's practice but returned to full sessions on Thursday and Friday. He has an enticing matchup against New Orleans this week and should lead the team in targets with Greg Olsen (foot) on the shelf.

09-22-2017, 03:46 PM
DeVante Parker (ankle) returned to Dolphins practice on Friday, getting in a full session.

Parker sat out Thursday's session, but beat reporters all along insisted he was in no danger of missing Week 3

Chris Johnson will remain the Cardinals' starting running back for Week 4.

Johnson carried the mail on early downs against the Cowboys, but was ineffective. He was out-snapped and out-gained by Andre Ellington. Coach Bruce Arians decided Johnson was "rusty," and will get another chance against the 49ers.

Eagles OC Frank Reich says there's "no doubt" Wendell Smallwood will be in for an increased role in Darren Sproles' absence.

Reich is just confirming the obvious, but it's good to hear it from the horse's mouth. Smallwood soundly out-snapped LeGarrette Blount against the Giants, and out-touched him, too.

Redskins coach Jay Gruden said he is not going to give Chris Thompson more touches.

"He's going to keep pushing me for them, but he's not going to get them," Gruden said. The back is averaging a ridiculous 13 yards per touch so far this season, but the coach wants to make sure Thompson, who has a long injury history, stays on the field for 16 games.

09-26-2017, 03:45 PM
Redskins coach Jay Gruden said Rob Kelley (ribs) will still be the team's "No. 1 lead dog" when healthy.

Kelley surprisingly sat out Sunday night's matchup with the Raiders, a game Chris Thompson dominated as he has all season. Still, Washington seemingly does not want to use Thompson as more than a complementary back, meaning Kelley should lead the backfield in touches when he is healthy. Kelley is expected to participate when Washington opens their practice week on Thursday.

Chiefs coach Andy Reid said he does not plan to scale back Kareem Hunt's workload.

The rookie is on pace for almost 300 touches, but his coach is not concerned about him hitting the wall. "No, I think we’re okay with how we’re using him," Reid said. "I just go off of the feel I have and the experience, we’ll be all right there." Perhaps the usage wears him down as the season goes on, but right now Hunt is as good as they come at running back. He will be an elite play in a great matchup against Washington on Monday night.
