#2 KING KOA
#3 MISTER HENRY LEE

#1 SCARF IT DOWN, the overall speed leader in this field today racing at the mile distance on the dirt, has hit the board in "POWER RUN FASHION" in each of his last five outings, including "POWER RUN WINS" in both his 3rd and 5th races back. Jockey Jose Ortiz and Trainer Jeremiah Englehart send him to the post ... they've hit the board with 59% of their entries saddled as a team to date. #5 SHADOW RIDER has also hit the board in "POWER RUN FASHION" in each of his respective last five outings, however, I also note, that there are no "Circle Trips" embedded in this recent streak of racing consistency.

#3 ALTAR BOY (ML=8/1)
#1 ASTOUNDING (ML=5/1)
#7 FOCUS GROUP (ML=7/2)

ALTAR BOY - This rider and handler's horses have been producing a favorable ROI. This late closer looks to be the animal to make a move near the wire. In my opinion, you need 'class' to be successful on the grass. This one has the highest average class rating in the group. This race horse is in great demand coming off two claims in his last two starts. Don't overlook this gelding in your speculating today. ASTOUNDING - Servis must have known this horse would run well at this track. Won his last race here on November 9th and now goes for a double. This jock and handler's horses have been generating a positive ROI. FOCUS GROUP - I seem to always make money betting Brown horses on the turf. That barn has a dominant win percent for this distance/surface. Have to make this colt a serious competitor; he comes off a good race on October 25th.

Vulnerable Contenders: #4 SHAHROZE (IRE) (ML=2/1), #2 NOT IN CHARGE (ML=5/2), #8 CHARMING INDY (ML=4/1),

SHAHROZE (IRE) - Most unsatisfactory speed fig last out at Belmont Park at 1 1/4 miles. Don't feel this questionable contender will improve too much in today's race. NOT IN CHARGE - Most unsatisfactory speed fig in the last race at Belmont Park at 1 1/4 miles. Don't feel this vulnerable equine will improve too much in today's event. CHARMING INDY - Could be tough for this racer to beat this bunch off of that last speed rating. Not probable to improve enough to run a figure close to today's class rating, so put him on the questionable contenders list.

# 12 START A WAR 8/1

# 2 DUSTY 15/1

# 6 KISS MY NOTE 5/1

START A WAR is my selection especially at a such a nice price. Has put up sound Equibase speed figs in dirt sprint races in the past. Has formidable early pace and should fare solidly versus this group of animals. Had one of the strongest Speed Figures of this group of animals in his last contest. KISS MY NOTE - Have to wager on this money-making rider and handler duo. Some very good figures have been posted by this trainer's runners racing at this distance and surface.

# 5 PLAYINWITHTHEBOYS 3/2

# 6 FIRESTAR 6/1

# 7 KIM 12/1

PLAYINWITHTHEBOYS is the most favorable wager in this race. Looks like a sound candidate for the exotics. When a handler brings any horse back this quickly it is a positive signal. Solid average Equibase speed figs in dirt route races make this horse a key contender. FIRESTAR - With a formidable jockey who has won at a decent 33 percent clip over the last month. This has to be one of the top choices. Had one of the best speed figures of this group in her last contest. KIM - She has been running strongly and the speed figures are among the strongest in this field. This trainer has done well as of late with entries travelling at this distance and surface.

#9 INDIAN BEAUTY (ML=4/1)
#8 MS TEEK (ML=10/1)
#10 BRAYDENS START (ML=12/1)

INDIAN BEAUTY - Sire stats for 2 year olds point to this horse as a dominant bet. Jockey jumped on this filly's back for the first time on Oct 26th. Should be in touch with the equine even better today. The most recent speed figure of 79 is the highest last race figure in the field. I know the outfit is serious today. The filly gets Lasix for the first time. Earnings per race is something that I feel can be a key factor. This horse is ranked the highest in this group. MS TEEK - You always have to be on the patrol for revenue generating jockey/trainer tandems; we have one right here. Have to give this filly a good shot. Ran a nice effort in the last race within the last month or so. BRAYDENS START - You'll be generating money left and right by turning your gambling cash onto this rider/handler combination. Recent speed figs show solid pattern of improvement.

Vulnerable Contenders: #4 BRONX BEAUTY (ML=2/1), #6 DIXIE SERENADE (ML=9/2), #3 P. SUE (ML=8/1),

BRONX BEAUTY - September 17th is the last time we've seen this filly around. Have to be a little bit leery. Tough to play this questionable contender this time around. Make her show you something in a short distance event before you invest in her in a race of 6 furlongs. DIXIE SERENADE - Today's contest is 6 furlongs. Hasn't finished in the money in a short distance race in the last 60 days. Not the greatest of indicators. P. SUE - This racer showed very liitle last time out of the box finishing sixth. Don't see any hint of any change in today's race. 8/1 is not offering enough value for any racer in a sprint of 6 furlongs that hasn't hit the board in a short distance clash of late. Mediocre speed figure in the last race at Presque Isle Downs at 6 1/2 furlongs. Don't believe this mount will improve too much today.

NBA (503) BROOKLYN NETS VS (504) CLEVELAND CAVALIERS

Take: OVER

Reason: Your free play for Wednesday, November 22, 2017 is in the NBA matchup between the Brooklyn Nets and the Cleveland Cavaliers. We hit out Situation Game of the Month with Cleveland at Detroit on Monday evening in an easy win, 116-88. The issue with the Cavs is to know when to play them and when to fold them. The Cavs like to rest players, but I believe they see the Celtics pulling away and have had to step it up, evidenced by their five straight wins. If they aren't careful the Celtics will run away with the East. Both teams have bad defenses, allowing 113.9 for the Nets and 114 for the Cavs. However, during this last five game streak, Cleveland has allowed just 102.6 ppg, a drastic downturn. Brooklyn has lost three of its last four games and hits the road here tonight. This isn't a very good team, especially on the road. With Cleveland having last night off, I look for them to run up the score tonight. The Cavs have been a great over team at home, with a 25-10-1 O/U record their last 36 home games. They are also 7-3 O/U their last 10 overall. I like this game to go OVER tonight with the Cavs having had some rest.

Preview: Wizards at HornetsGracenote
Nov 21, 2017

John Wall returned, Bradley Beal set a record and the Washington Wizards now have a chance for a winning road trip when they visit the Charlotte Hornets on Wednesday. After missing a trip-opening loss at Toronto due to a sore knee, Wall had 15 points and six assists in Monday's 99-88 win at Milwaukee, while Beal buried a pair of 3-pointers to become the fastest player in NBA history to 700.

Washington, playing the second half of a back-to-back for the first time this season, turned up the defensive pressure to snap a two-game slide. "Defensively, we locked into the game plan," coach Scott Brooks told the media. "We were aggressive, we were physical. We played with an IQ. We made them take the shots that we wanted them to take." The Wizards will try to maintain that approach against a Hornets squad that averaged 113.3 points over its last three games, including two straight wins to begin a three-game homestand. Charlotte will aim for a perfect stay at the Spectrum Centre behind veteran center Dwight Howard, who is averaging 20.5 points and 18 boards on the homestand.

TV: 7 p.m. ET, NBCS Washington Plus, FS Southeast (Charlotte)

ABOUT THE WIZARDS (10-7): Otto Porter Jr. also came into the Milwaukee game a bit banged up with a sore wrist, but he was still able to produce a double-double (12 points, 11 rebounds) to go along with four assists and three steals. Marcin Gortat recorded his third consecutive double-double with 10 points and 15 boards, and Wall had no issues in a 31-minute effort. "I was great. I was cool," Wall told reporters, according to the Washington Post. "I missed some easy, early shots but I was fine."

ABOUT THE HORNETS (7-9): Howard is 15-for-20 from the floor on the homestand and had a rare positive effort from the line (9-for-14) in the Monday's 118-102 victory over Minnesota. "I guess it works," Howard told reporters of his effort to think about other things when on the line. "I just stay away from my own brain." Frank Kaminsky made 1-of-8 3-pointers over his previous three games before hitting 4-of-5 against the Timberwolves en route to a season-high 24 points.

BUZZER BEATERS

1. Hornets PG Kemba Walker is averaging 23.9 points while making 50 percent of his 3-pointers in eight home games.

2. Wizards F Kelly Oubre Jr. hit 5-of-8 from long range while averaging 14 points in 19.5 minutes over the last two contests.

3. Wall averaged 22.8 points and 9.5 assists as Washington won three of four meetings last season.

PREDICTION: Hornets 108, Wizards 105

Preview: Nets at CavaliersGracenote
Nov 21, 2017

Whatever was wrong with the Cleveland Cavaliers two weeks ago doesn't seem to be plaguing the team anymore. The Cavaliers will try to run their winning streak to six in a row and go into Thanksgiving on a hot streak when they host Brooklyn Nets on Wednesday.

Cleveland put together its best overall performance of the season on Monday with a 116-88 win at Detroit in which it scored 73 points in the first half and led by 39 entering the fourth, allowing star LeBron James to get some rest in the fourth quarter. "We haven't had a win like this in a very long time," James told reporters. "Come out sometimes in the third quarter and we get slow starts and teams get back into it. But (Monday) we just kept it going. It's a pretty big step for us." The Cavaliers were in a much different place on Oct. 25, when they went into Brooklyn and suffered a 112-107 loss. The Nets improved to 3-2 on the season with that win but have since dropped eight of 11 and are without point guard D'Angelo Russell indefinitely after he underwent arthroscopic surgery on his left knee.
TV: 7 p.m. ET, YES (Brooklyn), FSN Ohio (Cleveland)

ABOUT THE NETS (6-10): Even without Russell in the lineup, Brooklyn did not back down from the defending champs on Sunday and nearly overcame a 28-point deficit before falling to the Warriors 118-111. "I was very happy to see our core fundamentals, our core values come back in that second half," Nets coach Kenny Atkinson told reporters after the loss. "We competed, we played together. We had 16 assists in the second half. Those are the things we want to be about. It makes you feel better going into the next game and going forward." Allen Crabbe is taking on a bigger role with Russell out and matched a season high with 25 points on Sunday to run his season-best string to three straight games scoring in double figures.
ABOUT THE CAVALIERS (10-7): The 88 points allowed on Monday marked a season low and snapped a streak of 14 straight games allowing at least 100 points for Cleveland, which is happy with the progress it is making. "Over the last six or seven games we've started to come together offensively and defensively," Cavaliers coach Tyronn Lue told reporters. "Moving the basketball, making the extra pass. That's what we're capable of doing when we play the right way." James, who logged 46 minutes in an overtime triumph over the Los Angeles Clippers on Friday, was needed for a season-low 27 minutes on Monday and still managed 18 points and eight assists.

BUZZER BEATERS

1. Cavaliers PF Kevin Love is averaging 20.2 points on 52.7 percent shooting over the last five games.

2. Nets PF Trevor Booker (left ankle sprain) left Sunday's game and is day-to-day.

3. Brooklyn snapped a four-game skid in the series with the Oct. 25 triumph.

PREDICTION: Cavaliers 115, Nets 102

Preview: Trail Blazers at 76ersGracenote
Nov 21, 2017

The Philadelphia 76ers did well to shake off the pain of a difficult loss to open their homestand and they will try to stay hot when they host the Portland Trail Blazers on Wednesday. The youthful 76ers suffered a second-half collapse against the Golden State to begin their stay in Philadelphia before pulling away for a 21-point win over Utah two days later.

"The rhythm of the game wasn't sort of the identity that we are trying to play with offensively," coach Brett Brown told reporters after his team committed 20 turnovers in the win over the Jazz. "It ended up being more of a fistfight from the defensive standpoint and the rebounding standpoint." The Trail Blazers have been surviving in that same way of late, going 4-1 during a stretch in which they have held opponents to an average of 88.8 points. "Defensively we were able to get some stops down the stretch," guard CJ McCollum said after a 24-point effort in a 100-92 win at Memphis on Monday. "Noah (Vonleh) had some big baskets. Big rebounds. Different guys stepped up. Everybody did a little bit of everything." Portland entered Tuesday's action ranked second in the NBA in scoring defense (97.2), while Philadelphia was 26th (108.9).

TV: 7 p.m. ET, NBCSN Northwest (Portland), NBCSN Philadelphia

ABOUT THE TRAIL BLAZERS (10-7): Vonleh had season highs with 11 points, 18 rebounds and three blocked shots in the win over the Grizzlies as he continues to play a bigger role along the front line. "The other team was just missing a lot of shots, and I was just having a nose for the ball," Vonleh told the media. "Boxing my guy out and going after it, that was my mindset." Monday began the first of two five-game road trips in less than a month for Portland.

ABOUT THE 76ERS (9-7): Big man Joel Embiid was questionable for the game against Utah due to knee pain, but he powered through for 15 points and 11 rebounds and provided a highlight by inducing a technical foul from Jazz rookie Donovan Mitchell after swatting Mitchell's shot. "The whole game I thought I was kind of flat," Embiid said of the incident. "I was kind of going through the motions. I needed that, getting the crowd going." Rookie Ben Simmons didn't need much motivation all night as he went for 27 points and 10 boards, his fourth straight double-double.

BUZZER BEATERS

1. Portland SG Evan Turner is 3-for-22 from the floor over a four-game stretch.

2. Sixers SG JJ Redick scored 20 points in each of his last two games while making 4-of-6 3-pointers.

3. Blazers G Damian Lillard averaged 27 points as the teams split two meetings last season.

Preview: Clippers at HawksGracenote
Nov 22, 2017

There have not been many positives this season for the Atlanta Hawks, who enter Wednesday’s home contest against the Los Angeles Clippers with just three victories. But the Hawks have been competitive against some of the better teams in the NBA, including an 11-point loss at San Antonio on Monday, and rookie John Collins is grabbing attention with his performance after scoring 21 points with nine rebounds off the bench.

“We’re a little short-handed,” Atlanta coach Mike Budenholzer told reporters after the loss, citing a lower-back injury sustained by Luke Babbitt and Mike Muscala’s absence as a chance for Collins to gain additional playing time. The Clippers can attest to struggling in the early season, bringing to Atlanta a nine-game losing streak after Monday’s 107-85 defeat in New York. “Bottom line, we just can’t sustain anything,” Los Angeles coach Doc Rivers told the media afterward. “Right now, we get it going a little bit and one thing happens and it just implodes.” The Clippers’ guard play was not strong Monday, as Austin Rivers, Lou Williams and Jawun Evans combined to shoot 5-for-25 from the field.

TV: 7:30 p.m. ET, Prime Ticket (Los Angeles), FSN Southeast (Atlanta)

ABOUT THE CLIPPERS (5-11): Center DeAndre Jordan ranks second in the NBA in rebounding at 13.7 per game and is one of 12 NBA players currently averaging a double-double (10.3 points). Williams is averaging 17.1 points off the bench, but Los Angeles is 1-11 since opening the season with four consecutive victories. Blake Griffin, the Clippers’ leading scorer (22.7 points), finished with a team-high 21 points Monday before fouling out.

ABOUT THE HAWKS (3-14): Atlanta’s last four games have featured a one-point loss, a franchise-record 46-point victory, and close calls against Boston and San Antonio. Collins, a first-round draft pick from Wake Forest, is averaging 11.6 points and 7.4 rebounds on the season and is shooting 72.1 percent from the field in his past five games. Dennis Schroder leads Atlanta in scoring at 19.7 points per game, while second-year forward Taurean Prince has reached double figures in four of his past five contests.

BUZZER BEATERS

1. Clippers G Patrick Beverley scored nine points with six rebounds Monday, returning after missing five games with a sore right knee.

2. Atlanta is third in the NBA in steals (9.0 per game) and 10th in assists (22.9).

3. Los Angeles is 2-6 on the road this season, and plays four of its next six away from home.

Preview: Celtics at HeatGracenote
Nov 21, 2017

The Boston Celtics rallied from double-digit deficits for victories in the last three contests to keep their impressive winning streak alive and can extend it to 17 games when they visit the scuffling Miami Heat on Wednesday night. Boston trailed by 13 with less than eight minutes to go Monday before storming back for a 110-102 overtime victory at Dallas as Kyrie Irving scored a season-high 47 points.

“For us it’s just about battling back when teams get a comfortable rhythm, whether it’d be in the first half or the second half,” Irving told reporters. “As a group we continue just to stick together throughout anything and everything.” The Celtics can tie the third-longest streak (1959-60) in franchise history with a win and hope for a similar effort as Oct. 28 when they took care of the Heat 96-90 in Miami with a game-high 24 points from Irving. Miami has dropped three of its last four after a crushing 120-95 defeat at home against Indiana on Sunday in which they allowed 60 percent shooting from the field. “It’s not physical. It’s mental for us,” Heat forward Udonis Haslem told the Miami Herald. “We’ve got to be able to sustain intensity and focus for 48 minutes understanding that even though the game of basketball is emotional, and it goes up and down, we still have to stay even throughout the course of the game.”

TV: 7:30 p.m. ET, NBCSN Boston, FSN Sun (Miami)

ABOUT THE CELTICS (16-2): Irving is averaging 22.5 points and 5.3 assists overall after scoring 77 combined in the last two contests while draining 10-of-13 from beyond the arc. “He’s got every move imaginable, but on top of that he’s one of the best shooters in the league,” coach Brad Stevens told the Boston Herald. “Everybody gets caught up in the moves and dribbling and everything he can do the ball, but his touch is beautiful with both hands.” Jaylen Brown is averaging 23.7 points over the last three games to push his season mark to 16.2 while making 10-of-20 from 3-point range.

ABOUT THE HEAT (7-9): Leading scorer Goran Dragic (18.3 points, 4.7 assists) is averaging just seven over the past two games while missing 13 of 19 shots from the field while backcourt mate Dion Waiters (15.1 points) is coming off a 0-for-10 shooting peformance. Center Hassan Whiteside continues to put up big numbers (16.2 points, 13.5 rebounds, 1.8 blocks) and forward James Johnson is the fourth player averaging in double figures (12.3). Starting guard Josh Richardson is considered day-to-day with an eye injury after getting poked Sunday and leaving the contest with 15 points.

BUZZER BEATERS

1. The Celtics have won eight straight meetings, including the last three by a combined 13 points.

2. Boston’s rookie F Jayson Tatum, who is averaging 13.9 points, has scored in double figures 15 times in his first 18 NBA games.

3. Miami C/F and former Celtic Kelly Olynyk is scoring 6.7 per game in November after averaging 12.5 during October.

Preview: Raptors at KnicksGracenote
Nov 21, 2017

The New York Knicks struggled at the Toronto Raptors on Friday in one of their few lackluster performances of late. After bouncing back with an easy win over the Los Angeles Clippers on Monday, the Knicks will get another shot at their Atlantic Division rivals on their home court when they host the Raptors on Wednesday.

After several down seasons, New York owns a winning record over a month into the 2017-18 campaign and is beginning to believe that its team - built around budding star Kristaps Porzingis - can make some noise in the Eastern Conference. "One thing about this team, everybody knows what they're going to do, everybody knows his role," Center Enes Kanter, who delivered 12 points and 16 rebounds in Monday's 107-85 win over the Clippers, told reporters. "We're just going out, playing basketball and having fun." Toronto seems to be having plenty of fun as well and enters Wednesday's tilt riding a four-game winning streak, including that 107-84 triumph over New York. The Raptors got 22 points apiece from Kyle Lowry and DeMar DeRozan in that win while holding the Knicks to 33 percent shooting, including 3-of-13 from Porzingis.
TV: 7:30 p.m. ET, Sportsnet (Toronto), MSG (New York)

ABOUT THE RAPTORS (11-5): Injuries are forcing Toronto to widen the rotation a bit, and younger players like Pascal Siakam and OG Anunoby are finding themselves contributing as starters. Siakam is making his presence felt on the defensive end and blocked three shots in the win over New York while serving as the primary defender against Porzingis, and he added two more blocks and nine rebounds over 31 minutes in Sunday's 100-91 win over the Washington Wizards. “(Siakam) is my guy, he’s great,” DeRozan told reporters. “The energy he brings, just his presence, his vibe as a person is unbelievable. When you go out there on the court and see the things he is able to do, it is definitely great to see."
ABOUT THE KNICKS (9-7): New York is a different team from last season with Porzingis emerging as the star in the wake of Carmelo Anthony's departure and players like Kanter, Tim Hardaway Jr. and Doug McDermott stepping up in their first seasons with the team. The Knicks are winners of nine of 13 since dropping their first three games of the season, and the organization recognizes the difference. “I think their resiliency (is the difference from last year’s team),” New York coach Jeff Hornacek said. “We started off 0-3 and they could have dropped their heads, but they didn’t. They kept working hard in practice. They kept going after it. If you play hard and buy into playing together as a team and not worry about stats, not worrying about what you’re going to do, just figure out what you’re going to do to help the team win things usually turn out pretty well."

BUZZER BEATERS

1. Knicks rookie PG Frank Ntilikina (illness) was limited to 11 minutes on Monday and is day-to-day.

2. Raptors SF Norman Powell (hip) sat out the last four games and is questionable for Wednesday.

3. Toronto took the last eight in the series, including four in New York.

Preview: Nuggets at RocketsGracenote
Nov 21, 2017

Even without their head coach and two starters, the Denver Nuggets continued their recent surge, but they'll need all hands on deck for Wednesday's visit to the high-powered Houston Rockets. Nuggets coach Mike Malone was serving a one-game suspension and both Paul Millsap and Wilson Chandler were sidelined, but the Nuggets had more than enough to coast past Sacramento 114-98 on Monday.

"Given the circumstances, I'll take it," assistant Wes Unseld Jr., who coached the team, told reporters. "The minute (we) got in here from the team bus they knew it was a task at hand. We were under adverse circumstances and had no other option than to pull it together." Denver won nine of its last 14 but the Rockets present a vastly different challenge than the lowly Kings and they are 8-1 in their last nine games after a 105-83 rout of Memphis on Saturday. James Harden continued his MVP-caliber play with 29 points and Clint Capela added 17 and 13 rebounds for Houston, which won its fifth straight road game but is returning home for the first time since a 19-point loss to Toronto on Nov. 14. Wednesday's tilt opens up a stretch in which the Rockets play 11 of 14 at home.

TV: 8 p.m. ET, Altitude (Denver), AT&T SportsNet Southwest (Houston)

ABOUT THE NUGGETS (10-7): Will Barton earned his third start in the last five games and responded with 25 points while making 5-of-6 3-pointers, and he is averaging 21 points and 6.7 rebounds as a starter. "That third quarter we were real patient and sound, ran our sets and got going," Barton told reporters. "Anytime you're missing two starters, impact guys like that, it's going to take a while." Gary Harris chipped in 20 points and is averaging 20.7 on 64.9 percent shooting since returning from a shoulder injury three games ago.

ABOUT THE ROCKETS (13-4): Houston ranks second to Golden State in scoring (112.6 points per game) and it put forth some solid defensive efforts of late as well, allowing 96 points or fewer in three of its last four wins. "We all know that the only way we're going to go far in the playoffs is defensively," coach Mike D'Antoni told the media after the Rockets held Memphis to 36 percent from the field. "You've got to be a bear. Tonight, we were." Capela swatted away three shots and Houston recorded nine blocks for the second game in a row.

BUZZER BEATERS

1. Capela was 7-for-11 from the floor Saturday and leads the NBA in field-goal percentage (68.1).

2. Millsap (wrist) and Chandler (back) are day-to-day.

3. Houston averaged 118 points in sweeping four games from Denver last season.

Preview: Mavericks at GrizzliesGracenote
Nov 21, 2017

The Memphis Grizzlies are struggling through a five-game losing streak, but help could be on the horizon in the form of their next opponent. The Grizzlies will try to get themselves right at the expense of the worst team in the NBA when they host the Dallas Mavericks on Wednesday.

Memphis dropped the first three of a four-game homestand while playing without point guard Mike Conley (Achilles), but it believes it is close to breaking out. "You've got to look for some small victories in this stuff when you're crawling through the mud," Grizzlies coach David Fizdale told reporters after a 100-92 loss to the Portland Trail Blazers on Monday. "We've just got to keep digging and stick together, and keep trying to weather this. I liked our approach this week. I even liked us in the locker room right now. We were just way more connected and just more about let's just keep trying to figure it out." The Mavericks own the most losses in the NBA (15) but are playing better of late and pulled off a 111-79 win over the Milwaukee Bucks on Saturday before taking the NBA-best Boston Celtics to overtime in a 110-102 setback on Monday. "We're making progress," Dallas coach Rick Carlisle told reporters. "We just aren't putting the kind of wins on the board that we feel we can. And the only thing that can short circuit us from making more progress is to take our eye off the ball in terms of making more progress. If we stay in the process, we will win our share of games."
TV: 8 p.m. ET, FSN Southwest (Dallas), FSN Southeast (Memphis)

ABOUT THE MAVERICKS (3-15): Harrison Barnes matched a season high with 31 points on Monday but missed a potential game-winner in the final second of regulation and was hard on himself in defeat. "As the closer, I've got to be better," Barnes told reporters. "At the end of the day, it's got to show up in wins and losses. There's no moral victories around here. Tonight, playing against a great team, we had a great opportunity to win here in front of our fans. But like I said, we let it slip away." Rookie point guard Dennis Smith Jr. was limited to eight points on 4-of-16 shooting in the loss and is 9-of-36 from the floor in the last three contests.
ABOUT THE GRIZZLIES (7-9): Memphis was dejected after a 105-83 loss to the Houston Rockets on Saturday but felt that it picked up its level of play considerably in Monday's setback. "I think this game, obviously, we didn't have a great night shooting, but defensively we were way more engaged, way more physical, way more aggressive, way more proactive, and that's what it's going to take," center Marc Gasol told reporters after the loss to Portland. "Obviously, then, we have to make shots and give good passes, but those things you can clean up and you can build on." Gasol delivered 19 points, 12 rebounds and seven assists in Monday's setback but is just 13-of-37 from the floor over the last two games.

BUZZER BEATERS

1. Mavericks PF Brandan Wright (groin) sat out Monday's game and has already been ruled out for Wednesday.

2. Grizzlies SG Tyreke Evans scored 20 or more points in seven of nine games this month.

3. Memphis earned a 96-91 home win over the Mavericks on Oct. 26 after falling 103-94 at Dallas the previous night.

Preview: Magic at TimberwolvesGracenote
Nov 21, 2017

The Minnesota Timberwolves look to get back on track after two straight losses when they begin a four-game homestand against the struggling Orlando Magic on Wednesday night. The Timberwolves had won eight of 10 to take over sole possession of first place in the Northwest Division, but dropped a three-point decision to Detroit on Sunday at home before suffering a 118-102 defeat at Charlotte one day later.

“We just didn’t do what we need to do, on both ends. It’s part of it, man,” Minnesota guard Jimmy Butler told the Star Tribune after Monday’s loss. “To lose the way we lost, what can you say? These games come quick in this league.” Butler has picked up his production the last three games, averaging 20.3 points, and hopes to continue that trend while helping to hand the Magic their sixth consecutive loss. Orlando began the season as one of NBA’s best surprises by winning six of its first eight games, but has dropped seven of nine since after Monday’s 105-97 setback against Indiana and starts a four-game trip Wednesday. “I thought the effort was good,” Magic guard Evan Fournier told the Orlando Sentinel Monday. “Honestly, guys, I don’t know what to tell you. We just look like a totally different team. It’s (darn) frustrating, man. There’s not much to say.”

TV: 8 p.m. ET, FSN Florida, FSN North Plus (Minnesota)

ABOUT THE MAGIC (8-9): Orlando is allowing 112.8 points during the losing streak while the offense has been stagnant at key times and the Magic turned the ball over 22 times against Indiana. “We’re trying,” Magic coach Frank Vogel told reporters. “Nobody’s happy with how we’re playing, and we know we’ve got to dig ourselves out of a little bit of a rut here.” Center Nikola Vucevic recorded 25 points against the Pacers to raise his scoring season average to 17.3 - third on the team behind Fournier (19.0) and forward Aaron Gordon (17.5).

ABOUT THE TIMBERWOLVES (10-7): Minnesota’s top two scorers have cooled off a bit of late as center Karl-Anthony Towns (20.6) is averaging 16.3 points over the past three games and Andrew Wiggins (18.8) has produced 15.2 the last five. Veteran reserve Jamal Crawford picked up some of the slack Monday with a season-high 19 points, but starting forward Taj Gibson was held to a season-low one on 0-for-4 shooting. Point guard Jeff Teague scored at least 15 points in four of the last five contests, but went 8-for-25 from the field over the last two.

BUZZER BEATERS

1. Orlando F Jonathan Isaac (ankle) is questionable after missing the last four games.

2. The Timberwolves are last in the league in field goal percentage defense (48.5).

3. Minnesota won both meetings last season after the Magic took the previous five matchups.

Preview: Spurs at PelicansGracenote
Nov 21, 2017

The San Antonio Spurs have done the bulk of their damage at home this season but face a challenging road contest when they visit the New Orleans Pelicans on Wednesday. The Spurs entered Tuesday with an NBA-high eight home wins after Monday's 96-85 victory over Atlanta, but they're just 3-4 on the road, where they play 19 of their next 30.

LaMarcus Aldridge figures to give San Antonio a chance regardless of the venue and the veteran forward led the way against the Hawks with 22 points and 11 rebounds, while Kyle Anderson continued his solid play with 13 points and a career-high 10 assists. "He's been ready for the moment," Aldridge told reporters of Anderson. "He's been playing really confident, making plays for us, being the other guy to be a ball-handler and been just saving us in games, basically." The Pelicans won six of their last nine and survived an ejection by star big man DeMarcus Cousins in a 114-107 triumph against Oklahoma City on Monday. Anthony Davis carried the load with 36 points and 15 rebounds and is averaging 27.6 points on 56.9 percent shooting at home.

TV: 8 p.m. ET, FS Southwest (San Antonio), FS New Orleans

ABOUT THE SPURS (11-6): Anderson's opportunity has arisen in the wake of the season-long injury to star Kawhi Leonard, who still has no timetable for a return. Anderson is shooting 58.1 percent from the floor and 81.8 percent from the line in November, compared to 42.3 and 64.3, respectively, in October, and has also helped to fill the void left by injured point guard Tony Parker. "He gets to handle the ball more and that's his game, too," veteran Manu Ginobili told reporters. "He's playing as a point power forward. He's a tough matchup because of his size and his handles."
ABOUT THE PELICANS (9-8): Jrue Holiday scored 18 points in the win over the Thunder while Cousins hit that same mark before being tossed. New Orleans trailed by eight at the break but utilized a dominant effort by Davis and some sharp shooting from a bench that went 10-for-15 from the floor to mount a comeback. "Our second team did amazing to get us back in this game," Holiday told reporters. "Hats off to them. They really brought the energy, and from there, we kind of picked it up and sustained it."

BUZZER BEATERS

1. Pelicans SF Darius Miller is averaging 12.8 points while making 12-of-19 3-pointers over a four-game hot stretch.

2. Cousins averaged 27.3 points, 19 rebounds and four assists in three games against San Antonio last season, only one of which came with New Orleans.

3. Aldridge missed all seven of his 3-point attempts over a six-game span.

PREDICTION: Pelicans 109, Spurs 106

Preview: Wild at SabresGracenote
Nov 21, 2017

The Buffalo Sabres are in a familiar position, buried at the bottom of the Eastern Conference and stuck in another lengthy losing streak. Featuring the league's least productive offense, the reeling Sabres will look to avoid a seventh consecutive defeat when they host the Minnesota Wild on Wednesday night.

Buffalo has scored only 10 goals during its six-game skid (0-4-2) but Jason Pominville, acquired from Minnesota in the offseason, knows how easily things can turn around. "You just get into that rhythm and you feel good about your game, you feel good about yourself," Pominville said. "We had it last year when we won (12) in a row (with the Wild). ... It's definitely a fun feeling to have." Although the Wild have lost two straight following a four-game winning streak, Tyler Ennis and Marcus Foligno -- dealt to Minnesota in the deal for Pominville and Marco Scandella -- are looking forward to returning to Buffalo. "It should be nice to see some of the guys, the trainers and some of the staff," Ennis said. "But mostly the focus is on just getting a win."

TV: 7 p.m. ET, FSN North (Minnesota), MSG-Buffalo

ABOUT THE WILD (9-8-3): Forward Mikael Granlund scored a career-high 26 goals last season but tallied just once through 14 games before connecting twice and adding an assist in Monday's 4-3 overtime loss to New Jersey. Minnesota sent forwards forwards Joel Eriksson Ek and Luke Kunin to Iowa and recalled Zack Mitchell, who had five goals and 14 points in his last 11 games in the minors. "Mitchell has been at the top of the heap down there almost every game this year," Wild coach Bruce Boudreau said.

ABOUT THE SABRES (5-12-4): While Buffalo is managing an NHL-worst 2.3 goals per game, Evander Kane has scored in back-to-back contests to boost his team-leading total to 12. "We've got to find ways to generate more," Kane said. "Am I happy with the start personally? Yes, but do I want more? Absolutely. I think I can be producing more. I think I could be producing more offense." Jacob Josefson, out since injured an ankle on Oct. 15, practiced for the second straight day and is close to joining the lineup.

OVERTIME

1. Wild G Devan Dubnyk has allowed only seven goals in five starts versus the Sabres, but is only 3-2-0 against them.

2. Buffalo has killed off all 26 short-handed situations at home this season.

3. Minnesota is 5-for-13 on the power play during the past three games.

Preview: Oilers at Red WingsGracenote
Nov 22, 2017

The Detroit Red Wings hope a late collapse in their last game does not spark a losing streak as they prepare to host the reeling Edmonton Oilers on Wednesday. The Red Wings earned at least one point for the fourth straight contest (2-0-2) despite giving up two goals in the final 6:15 of regulation and another in overtime in a 4-3 home loss to Colorado on Sunday.

“This league is relentless, and if you let up a second, you will fall behind so fast, you won’t know what happened to you,” Detroit coach Jeff Blashill told the Detroit News. "I said to our guys today, 'We were OK on Sunday.' …. OK is not good enough. If we’re that, we’re going to look up two weeks from now and, all of a sudden, we’re not going to be where we want to be.” The Red Wings are 4-2-3 in their new arena and hope to take advantage of the Oilers, who have dropped five of six (1-4-1) after suffering an embarrassing 8-3 defeat at St. Louis on Tuesday. Edmonton has given up 18 goals in its last three games and goaltender Cam Talbot was pulled Tuesday after allowing two tallies on three shots. Reigning Hart Trophy winner Connor McDavid notched an assist against the Blues for his seventh point in four games, but the Oilers have scored more than three goals just once in their last nine contests.

TV: 7 p.m. ET, Sportsnet West (Edmonton), FSN Detroit

ABOUT THE OILERS (7-12-2): McDavid continues to improve his offensive numbers (10 goals, 26 points), but Edmonton has struggled to find the right linemates for its captain. Leon Draisaitl, who has spent time on McDavid’s wing, snapped a five-game goal-scoring drought Tuesday with one tally and an assist while Ryan Nugent-Hopkins set up a pair of tallies to give him five points in his last four contests. Backup Laurent Brossoit was expected to get the start in net Wednesday, but with Talbot’s early exit against St. Louis, coach Todd McLellan could make a change.

ABOUT THE RED WINGS (10-8-3): Dylan Larkin has taken over the team scoring lead with 20 points - one better than Anthony Mantha - after notching a pair of goals and three assists over his last three games. Mantha leads the way with 10 goals and defenseman Mike Green has matched Larkin with 16 assists through 21 contests, while both have been key to an improving power play by registering a total of 14 points. Jimmy Howard (8-5-2, 2.34 goals-against average, .928 save percentage) is expected to be in net against Edmonton after earning at least one point in five consecutive contests (3-0-2).

OVERTIME

1. The Red Wings blanked Edmonton 4-0 on Nov. 5 after the Oilers had gone 3-0-1 in the previous four meetings.

2. Detroit RW Martin Frk, who recorded a goal and an assist in the first meeting, is questionable for Wednesday due to a groin injury.

3. Edmonton failed on its only chance with the man advantage Tuesday but is 5-for-10 on the power play over its last four contests.

Preview: Maple Leafs at PanthersGracenote
Nov 21, 2017

The Toronto Maple Leafs saw their season-high six-game winning streak come to a halt after stumbling against the most unlikely of foes. The Maple Leafs look to regain their footing on Wednesday when they visit the Florida Panthers, who have dropped eight of their last 11 contests.

James van Riemsdyk scored his fifth goal in as many games when he converted on the power play just 33 seconds into the second period on Monday, but Toronto saw its third-ranked offense held in check in a 4-1 setback to league-worst Arizona. The 28-year-old's goal with the man advantage was just the team's fifth in the last 13 games, however. Toronto might be able to gain some steam on the power play against Florida, which surrendered two goals while short-handed in its 3-2 loss to Anaheim on Sunday. Vincent Trocheck scored his team-leading ninth goal and added an assist for the Panthers, who limped to a 1-3-1 mark versus the Maple Leafs last season.

TV: 7 p.m. ET, Sportsnet Ontario (Toronto), FSN Florida

ABOUT THE MAPLE LEAFS (14-8-0): Mitch Marner's play-making ability has been on display with seven points (one goal, six assists) in his last five games, but that doesn't mean that coach Mike Babcock wants to pair him with fellow 20-year-old Auston Matthews. "That's great that everyone wants that (but) we're just trying to win every night," Babcock told TSN. "It's the responsibility of both guys to drive a line. That's their job here." As for Matthews, the reigning Calder Trophy recipient admitted that he was a bit sluggish on Monday as he works out the kinks on the heels of missing four games with an upper-body injury.

ABOUT THE PANTHERS (7-11-2): Florida fell on the wrong end of the scoreboard in its last outing despite unleashing a season-high 52 shots on goal. "We're running into hot goalies," said defenseman Keith Yandle, who scored and set up a goal. "We're getting opportunities. It comes down to a couple of bounces. I thought our effort was great and we played hard, but it's never fun losing." Aleksander Barkov notched a pair of assists versus the Ducks for his third multi-point performance in his last six games overall. The 22-year-old Finn scored a goal and set up two others over his last two encounters versus Toronto last season.

OVERTIME

1. Toronto C Nazem Kadri has collected four goals and as many assists during his career high-tying seven-game point streak.

2. Panthers G Roberto Luongo sports a brilliant 20-9-1 mark with two shutouts and a .926 save percentage in 34 career appearances versus the Maple Leafs.

3. Toronto G Frederik Andersen, who earned the NHL Second Star of Week honors on Monday, has a .966 save percentage in his past five games.

Preview: Bruins at DevilsGracenote
Nov 21, 2017

After winning two of three in California, the Boston Bruins hope to conclude their four-game road trip with a third straight triumph when they visit the New Jersey Devils on Wednesday. Boston began its stretch in the Golden State with a loss to Anaheim before allowing a total of two goals in victories over Los Angeles and San Jose.

The Bruins received all of their goals in Saturday's 3-1 victory over the Sharks from rookies, with Peter Cehlarik scoring the first of his NHL career. New Jersey has earned points in five of its last six contests (3-1-2) after posting a 4-3 overtime victory at Minnesota on Monday. The Devils squandered a two-goal lead in the third period before defenseman John Moore tallied 52 seconds into the extra session as the team concluded its four-game road trip with a 2-1-1 record. Adam Henrique broke out of a major funk against the Wild, recording a three-point performance (one goal, two assists) after notching one assist over his previous nine contests.

TV: 7 p.m. ET, NESN (Boston), MSG Plus 2 (New Jersey)

ABOUT THE BRUINS (8-7-4): Anton Khudobin was in net for the victories over the Kings and Sharks, turning aside a total of 63 shots as he improved to 5-0-2 this season. Despite the success of the 31-year-old native of Kazakhstan, who is in his second career stint with Boston, coach Bruce Cassidy maintains he still is the backup to Tuukka Rask. David Pastrnak leads the team with 17 points but enters Wednesday with a four-game drought.

ABOUT THE DEVILS (12-5-3): Will Butcher has scored a goal in each of his last two games after failing to tally in his first 18 NHL contests. The 22-year-old is second on the team in scoring and leads all rookie defensemen in the league with 16 points. Henrique, who has reached the 20-goal plateau in three of his previous four seasons, has recorded only four in 20 games this campaign.

OVERTIME

1. Bruins D Torey Krug has missed two games with an upper-body injury and is day-to-day.

2. New Jersey LW Taylor Hall has notched four points in as many contests and leads the team with 21.

3. Boston assigned LW Kenny Agostino, who has recorded one assist in five games, to Providence of the American Hockey League.

Preview: Flyers at IslandersGracenote
Nov 22, 2017

The New York Islanders have yet to come away from a home game without at least one point this season, and they look to continue the streak Wednesday against the Philadelphia Flyers. New York is 6-0-2 at Barclays Center after posting a 6-4 triumph over Carolina on Thursday but is coming off a 4-2 road setback against the Hurricanes on Sunday.

The defeat put an end to a three-game winning streak that saw the Islanders score at least five goals each time out. Philadelphia hopes to halt a winless stretch that reached five games (0-3-2) with Tuesday's 5-2 home setback against Vancouver. The Flyers have struggled on the road of late, going 1-2-1 while scoring a total of four goals and being shut out twice. Jakub Voracek, who leads Philadelphia with 26 points, is riding a three-game streak during which he has recorded two tallies and three assists.

TV: 7 p.m. ET, NBCSN Philadelphia Plus, MSG Plus (New York)

ABOUT THE FLYERS (8-9-4): Radko Gudas on Tuesday began serving the 10-game suspension he received for a slashing incident against Winnipeg last Thursday. It marks the third ban as a Flyer for the 27-year-old Czech defenseman, who has notched two assists in 17 contests this season. Captain Claude Giroux notched an assist against the Canucks, bringing him within three points of 600 for his career.

ABOUT THE ISLANDERS (11-7-2): John Tavares leads the club with 15 goals after scoring one in three of his last four games. The 27-year-old captain has registered seven multi-point performances and is tied for the team scoring lead of 23 points with Josh Bailey, whose 19 assists top the squad. Anders Lee was kept off the scoresheet in Carolina, ending his streak of three consecutive two-point efforts.

OVERTIME

1. The Islanders are off to their best start at home since beginning 1978-79 with a 7-0-1 record.

2. Philadelphia has registered at least 30 shots in each of its last seven contests and 12 of its last 13.

3. New York ranked second at the one-quarter mark of the season with an average of 3.60 goals, and its 72 tallies are its highest amount through 20 games since 1987-88.

Preview: Canucks at PenguinsGracenote
Nov 22, 2017

The Vancouver Canucks receive a bit of a break when they continue their six-game road trip Wednesday against the Pittsburgh Penguins. Vancouver, which began its trek with Tuesday's 5-2 triumph in Philadelphia, will not have to deal with Evgeni Malkin, who will be sidelined at least one game with an upper-body injury.

The 31-year-old Russian, who is second in the Penguins with 21 points, was injured in Saturday's 2-1 home loss to Chicago and will be re-evaluated on Thursday. That setback ended Pittsburgh's string of three consecutive contests with a point (2-0-1) as well as its six-game winning streak at home. The Canucks have won two straight on the road but only two of their last six overall (2-3-1). Brock Boeser scored twice in the win over the Flyers, giving him a team-leading nine tallies and a three-game goal-scoring streak.

TV: 7 p.m. ET, Sportsnet Pacific (Vancouver), AT&T SportsNet-Pittsburgh

ABOUT THE CANUCKS (10-8-3): Boeser, who is riding a four-game point streak, also tops Vancouver in assists (10) and points (19). The 20-year-old right wing is the first Canucks rookie to record a goal in three straight games since Jason King accomplished the feat from Nov. 3-8, 2003. Sven Baertschi has scored five of his eight goals this season on the power play, including each of his last three over a span of four contests.

ABOUT THE PENGUINS (11-8-3): While Malkin will miss Wednesday's game, Carter Rowney could return from a hand injury that has sidelined him for the last 13 contests. The 28-year-old forward, who hasn't played since Oct. 21, participated in his first full practice since the injury on Tuesday. Defenseman Matt Hunwick made an immediate impact in his return from a 15-game absence due to a concussion as he scored the team's third short-handed goal of the season on Saturday.

OVERTIME

1. Half of Penguins RW Phil Kessel's team-leading 24 points have been recorded with the man advantage.

2. Baertschi and C Bo Horvat (four) have combined for nine of Vancouver's 15 power-play goals.

3. Pittsburgh assigned D Frank Corrado, who appeared in three games this season, to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League.

Preview: Senators at CapitalsGracenote
Nov 21, 2017

Alex Ovechkin began the season with a flourish, recording an opening-night hat trick in a 5-4 shootout victory over the Ottawa Senators on Oct. 5. The three-time Hart Trophy recipient looks to recapture that magic and snap a six-game goal drought on Wednesday as the Washington Capitals host the Senators.

While Ovechkin is mired in a modest goal-scoring slump, fellow forward Nicklas Backstrom has failed to find the back of the net in his last 15 games - although coach Barry Trotz believes the Swede is knocking on the door. "Against Minnesota (on Saturday), he could've had a hat trick, and they're not going in easy for him," Trotz told the Washington Post. "I think you get more concerned when you're not getting any chances. ... Would I like more? Yeah, absolutely." Ottawa would accept anything as it has mustered just three goals overall in its last three games (0-2-1) and is 0-for-11 on the power play in that stretch. "As of right now, it's not going the way we want to," Senators defenseman Erik Karlsson said. "It's something we know and that we're trying to figure out. We're going to have to find a way here to sort that out as soon as possible."

TV: 7 p.m. ET, Sportsnet East, TVAS (Ottawa), NBCSN Washington

ABOUT THE SENATORS (8-5-6): Ottawa recalled 2015 first-round pick Thomas Chabot from Belleville of the American Hockey League on the heels of the scary head injury sustained by fellow defenseman Mark Borowiecki in Sunday's 3-0 setback to the New York Rangers. Chabot excited the Senators' fan base with two assists in three games during the team's season-opening western Canadian road swing, although coach Guy Boucher told the Toronto Sun that expectations need to be tempered. "We're happy to see Chabot here, but don't make it any bigger than it is," Boucher said. "He's here because (Borowiecki is injured). He's still developing. He still has some things to work on, but we're definitely going to use his strengths."

ABOUT THE CAPITALS (11-10-1): Washington has been outscored 17-9 during its last four games (1-3-0), with Lars Eller netting the team's lone goal in a 4-1 setback to Calgary on Monday. "I know this team can bring a lot more than that, than what we've been showing. It's been a little bit of a theme for us lately," Eller said. Evgeny Kuznetsov scored two goals and set up two others in his previous three games before being held in check versus the Flames, but the 25-year-old Russian looks to fluster the Senators again after notching three assists in the first encounter.

OVERTIME

1. Ottawa RW Mark Stone, who scored twice in the first meeting with Washington, has 10 goals in the last 12 games overall.

2. Capitals G Braden Holtby has surrendered 11 goals in his last three outings (1-2-0) after permitting that same total during his six-game winning streak.

3. Ottawa C Derick Brassard scored a goal and set up two others in the first encounter with Washington, but has just five points (all assists) in his last 11 games.

Preview: Rangers at HurricanesGracenote
Nov 21, 2017

Finnish linemates Teuvo Teravainen and Sebastian Aho are proving to be a nice one-two punch for the Carolina Hurricanes. The duo looks to continue its offensive surge Wednesday as Carolina attempts to extend its home point streak to six games when it hosts the New York Rangers.

The 23-year-old Teravainen leads the Hurricanes with 19 points, collecting 10 during his current four-game streak, while Aho has notched nine in the same span to raise his season total to 17. Aho, 20, also is riding a four-game goal-scoring streak after tallying in Sunday's 4-2 triumph over the New York Islanders as Carolina improved to 3-0-2 in its last five at home. The Rangers hope to avoid a third consecutive road loss after being blanked 2-0 at Columbus on Friday. The club bounced back two days later as Henrik Lundqvist posted his second shutout of the season in a 3-0 home victory over Ottawa.

TV: 7 p.m. ET, MSG2 (New York), FSN Carolinas

ABOUT THE RANGERS (10-9-2): Mika Zibanejad scored his 10th goal of the season Sunday to move one ahead of Michael Grabner for the team lead. The 24-year-old Swede has reached double digits in 21 games and is four tallies away from matching his total from last season, which he registered in 56 contests. Captain Ryan McDonagh is sixth on the team in points with 12 - all assists.

ABOUT THE HURRICANES (9-6-4): Teravainen's recent efforts earned him the NHL's First Star of the Week honors. The left wing claimed the title by scoring five goals - including his first career hat trick, which was registered in a span of 7 minutes, 5 seconds against Dallas on Nov. 13 for the second-fastest natural hat trick in franchise history - and setting up five others during his four-game point streak. Aho, who scored 24 goals as a rookie last season, opened 2017-18 with a 15-game drought before rediscovering his touch.

OVERTIME

1. Hurricanes RW Josh Jooris returned to the lineup Sunday after missing the previous contest with a lower-body injury but saw his point drought reach seven games.

2. Nearly half of the Rangers' 66 goals this season (32) have been scored by players younger than 26.

3. Carolina is attempting to climb up the Metropolitan Division standings as it has earned points in seven of its last eight games (5-1-2).

PREDICTION: Rangers 3, Hurricanes 2

Preview: Flames at Blue JacketsGracenote
Nov 21, 2017

The Columbus Blue Jackets are on a tear but another team hitting its stride will try to cool them off when the Calgary Flames pay a visit to Nationwide Arena on Wednesday night. Columbus answered a four-game skid with a four-game winning streak as it prepares to face the high-powered Flames, winners of four of their last five games.

Calgary, which is making the fourth stop on its six-game road trip, has scored at least four goals in each of its wins during the current 4-1-0 stretch. Johnny Gaudreau is sparking the Flames' offense with a six-game goal streak and a career-best 10-game point string, helping Calgary go 7-3-0 in that span. "They have a lot of similar traits as us," Blue Jackets captain Nick Foligno said. "You've got the high-powered offense, the great defensemen and a good goalie. So, I'm expecting a great matchup and an exciting game because of the talent out there. We look forward to playing these guys." Defense and goaltending actually have provided the impetus for Columbus, which has permitted only four goals during the four-game run.

TV: 7:30 p.m. ET, Sportsnet360 (Calgary), FSN Ohio (Columbus)

ABOUT THE FLAMES (12-8-0): Gaudreau is in the midst of a torrid stretch with seven goals in the last six games and 19 points in the last 10, including five consecutive multiple-point contests. "He's making something happen every shift," center Sean Monahan said. "To be able to play on his line, it's a lot of fun right now. That confidence is hard to take away from a guy like that, so he's going to continue to do that." Monahan is on a roll of his own with seven goals and 13 points over the past nine games, giving him a team-leading 12 tallies.

ABOUT THE BLUE JACKETS (13-7-1): Foligno has been held off the scoresheet for a dozen games, matching the longest stretch of his career, and may be moved to wing when injured center Alexander Wennberg rejoins the lineup. With Foligno struggling, coach John Tortorella moved Pierre-Luc Dubois to center on a line with Artemi Panarin and liked what he saw out of the rookie. "He wasn’t overwhelmed playing with Panarin," Tortorella said. "I don’t think he was bothered at all about the positions he was put in and he was playing with one of our top guys."

OVERTIME

1. Blue Jackets G Sergei Bobrovsky is 5-2-2 with a 2.17 goals-against average versus the Flames.

2. Calgary is 7-for-18 on the power play over the past four games.

3. Columbus C Lukas Sedlak (ankle) will return to the lineup Wednesday after missing 13 games.

Preview: Blackhawks at LightningGracenote
Nov 21, 2017

The Chicago Blackhawks may be starting to turn their fortunes in a positive direction with two straight wins and could gain a big boost if they can go into the holiday with a road victory against the red-hot Tampa Bay Lightning on Wednesday night. The Blackhawks responded to giving up seven goals against New Jersey by beating the New York Rangers 6-3 and then knocking off two-time defending Stanley Cup champion Pittsburgh 2-1 on Saturday.

“I find that we’re moving better and skating better,” Chicago coach Joel Quenneville told reporters. “We still think there’s better puck management internally, on every single line, and that could make us better. That’s where the upside has to come from.” Artem Anisimov posted five of his team-leading 10 goals in the last three games for the Blackhawks, who will need to put together another strong offensive effort against the NHL’s top scoring team Wednesday. Steven Stamkos leads the league with 35 points and Nikita Kucherov has an NHL-best 17 goals for the Lightning, who are putting up 3.95 per contest with points in 17 of the first 20 games. Tampa Bay tries to avoid its first losing streak of the season after dropping a 5-3 decision Saturday to the New York Islanders at home.

TV: 7:30 p.m. ET, NBC Sports Network, NBCSN Chicago

ABOUT THE BLACKHAWKS (10-8-2): Rookie forward Alex DeBrincat has also played a big part during Chicago’s 3-1-0 run while posting four goals and two assists during the stretch to push his season total to 13 points (seven goals). Patrick Kane leads the team with 19 points, recording a goal and four assists in the last four games, and fellow forward Nick Schmaltz registered six assists in the past three contests. Corey Crawford (9-7-0, 2.19 goals-against average, .933 save percentage) allowed four goals to win the last two games after allowing six versus New Jersey.

ABOUT THE LIGHTNING (15-3-2): Yanni Gourde emerged last season when Tampa Bay’s injury list grew and has not lost his spot, putting up six goals and eight assists with a plus-11 rating in the first 20 games. Gourde has played on right wing with center Brayden Point (eight goals, 20 points) and left wing Ondrej Palat (five, 12) on a second line that has produced offensively while often also being matched against the opponent’s top line. Defenseman Jake Dotchin, who missed the last two practices with an undisclosed injury, is considered day-to-day.

OVERTIME

1. Tampa Bay G Andrei Vasilevskiy (14-2-1, .928 save percentage) beat the Blackhawks twice last season.

2. Chicago LW Brandon Saad recorded six goals in the first six games of the season but managed one in the last 14.

3. Gourde had the overtime winner against Chicago last March and the Lightning have earned a point in the last four meetings (3-0-1).

CFL Betting NotesOttawa RedBlacks 4-7-1 SU, 8-4 ATS vs. Montreal Alouettes 3-8 SU, 4-7 ATSPoint-spread: Ottawa -2Total: 48Game OverviewOttawas recent three-game run both SU and ATS came to a sudden end last week, but it still has the slight edge in the East to repeat as division champions. The total stayed UNDER in that loss to the Tiger-Cats and it has now stayed UNDER or ended as a PUSH in nine of the RedBlacks last 10 games. Adding injury to insult, quarterback Trevor Harris is expected to be out several weeks after badly bruising his shoulder in that loss. With Harris out of the lineup for Ottawa, Montreal has an excellent opportunity to make up some ground in the East, but it is going to need a much better effort from its defense. The one strength of this team coming into this season was its defense, but going back to a 41-40 loss to Winnipeg on July 27, the Alouettes have allowed at least 32 points in five of their last six games.Betting TrendsOttawa has won seven of the last eight meetings both SU and ATS including a 32-4 victory against Montreal on Aug. 31 in a game that closed as a PICK. The total has stayed UNDER in four of the last five meetings.
