Charles Town - Race #3 - Post: 7:57pm - Claiming - 7.0 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $15,500 Class Rating: 71

Rating: 4

#4 PRIME LOCATION (ML=8/1)
#9 WHERE'S BENTLEE (ML=15/1)

PRIME LOCATION - This gelding is in good condition. Ended up first on November 15th. This gelding's last speed figure is high enough to triumph here, I'll play him back again this time. Should do well in this event. Weight shift of -6 from Nov 15th race at Mountaineer Park. WHERE'S BENTLEE - Have to give this gelding a shot. Ran a sharp race last time around the track within the last month or so.

Vulnerable Contenders: #1 JOHN ROOT (ML=9/5), #2 JUMP STREET (ML=2/1), #7 NO SIR REE BOB (ML=5/1),

JOHN ROOT - The fig last time around the track doesn't fit very well in this affair when I look at the class rating of today's event. Mark this mount as a vulnerable competitor. JUMP STREET - Can't wager on this pony in today's sprint of 7 furlongs. Hasn't even hit the board in a sprint race recently. This entrant hasn't shown much in the last couple events. NO SIR REE BOB - Don't believe this mount will do much running in today's event. That last speed fig was common when compared with today's class figure.

Top HatGUEST COMMENTARY: Winston - PRIME LOCATION - This gelding is utmost in the group in earnings per start. I'm investing on this one.

# 6 RUNAWAY IDE 2/1

# 3 GRAY RANSOM 4/1

# 5 E LEE 8/1

My choice here is RUNAWAY IDE. Trainer has sharp win rate (25 percent) at this distance and surface. This animal is at the top in this group of animals in earnings per start at the distance/surface. Must be considered - I like the numbers from the last race. GRAY RANSOM - This equine has to be in good condition coming back to race so quickly. Has competitive Equibase Speed Figs and has to be considered for a wager in this event. E LEE - He has a very good distance/surface win record - 3 for 12. Have to think this equine will make a good showing again this time out.

Hawthorne - Race #1 - Post: 12:55pm - Maiden Claiming - 6.0 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $7,800 Class Rating: 67

Rating: 4

#2 READY TO FIGHT (ML=6/1)

READY TO FIGHT - Don't throw this one out due to his last event at Hawthorne where he ended up fifth on a track listed as good. Should improve this time around. This gelding is most likely the strongest closer in the field. Outside the top 3 finish last time out at Hawthorne was better than it looked on paper. He improved position in the stretch and never gave up.

Vulnerable Contenders: #1 GREELEYS SPIRIT (ML=3/5), #4 RED EYE VISION (ML=8/1), #7 YA MON (ML=8/1),

GREELEYS SPIRIT - I foresee disappointment for this equine in this race. RED EYE VISION - Tough to invest in any animal in a short distance event at 8/1 when he hasn't shown any on the board results in sprints in the last sixty days. YA MON - Awfully hard to play this steed when he hasn't been showing any fighting spirit lately. This horse doesn't have a winning make-up. Habitually finishes near the winner. This gelding has had a great number of efforts at Hawthorne and still no wins.

Go with #2 READY TO FIGHT on top if we're getting at least 1/1 odds

The Walker Group Picks

# 4 MAJESTIC GOLDMINER 8/1

# 3 MATTHEW'S RIDGE 2/1

# 2 SILENT EMPIRE 9/2

MAJESTIC GOLDMINER looks decent to best this field especially at a such a nice price. Displays the look of a lucrative play, averaging a solid 75 speed figure which is one of the strongest in this group of animals. Change in Lasix (with second time Lasix) may be the means to a return to the track. The Equibase Speed Figure of 75 from his last race looks respectable in here. MATTHEW'S RIDGE - Has performed admirably lately in route races, posting a nifty 75 avg speed figure. Might best this group of animals here, showing solid figures of late. SILENT EMPIRE - Will probably come out very solid - I have liked the way this colt has moved promptly to the lead recently. Should be given consideration based on the competitive speed rating earned in the last race.

Preview: Stanford vs. USCGracenote
Nov 28, 2017

Stanford will try to defeat USC in the Pac-12 championship game for the second time in three seasons when the No. 15 Cardinal meet the No. 9 Trojans at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif., on Friday night. Stanford has won eight of its past nine following a 38-20 victory against No. 17 Notre Dame on Saturday, and USC has won four straight for the second time this season.

These teams met Sept. 9 in Los Angeles and the Trojans played one of their best games of the season, piling up 623 total yards in a 42-24 victory inside the Coliseum. USC quarterback Sam Darnold completed 21-of-26 passes for 316 yards and four touchdowns, and led the Trojans on six touchdown drives of 75 yards or longer. Stanford's go-to player continues to be running back Bryce Love, who had 160 rushing yards on 17 carries and scored a touchdown in the first meeting, one of 10 games with at least 100 yards rushing this season. USC will see a different quarterback as sophomore K.J. Costello replaced senior Keller Chryst four games ago and is coming off his best performance, throwing for 176 yards and four touchdowns with no interceptions against the Fighting Irish.

TV: 8 p.m. ET, ESPN. LINE: USC -4

ABOUT STANFORD (9-3): The Trojans will have their hands full trying to block senior Harrison Phillips, who leads all FBS defensive tackles with 16.5 tackles for loss, including 6.5 sacks. The Cardinal also have a dependable secondary led by strong safety Justin Reid, the conference's co-leader in interceptions with five, including one against the Trojans earlier this season. Reid displayed his versatility against Notre Dame, totaling nine tackles (three solo), a sack and a pass breakup.

ABOUT USC (10-2): The Trojans will also have a somewhat different look than the last meeting against Stanford as the leading rusher from that game, Stephen Carr, hasn't bounced back from a four-game absence in October because of a foot injury. Carr has appeared in two games since his return, but totaled only 12 rushing yards on four carries and caught three passes for 59 yards. Ronald Jones II has flourished as the No. 1 back for USC, especially in the past four games, combining for 674 rushing yards and eight touchdowns in that span.

EXTRA POINTS

1. The South Division is 0-6 in the Pac-12 championship game.

2. Stanford has won seven of the past 10 games against USC.

3. This is the fourth consecutive season the Trojans have played in an NFL stadium.

PREDICTION: Stanford 28, USC 27

Betting action very heavy as NCAAF Championship Week pointspreads hit the board
Patrick Everson

Stanford Cardinal vs. Southern California Trojans (-3.5)

Even with a win this week in the Pac-12 title game, Southern Cal has virtually no chance of reaching the CFP. The Trojans (10-2 SU) have been among the worst spread-covering outfits in the nation, which they demonstrated again in their Nov. 18 regular-season finale, a 28-23 win over UCLA as a 14.5-point home favorite.

Stanford has absolutely no shot at the CFP, but did finish the regular season with style. The Cardinal, who won a tiebreaker with Washington to reach the Pac-12 final, dumped Notre Dame 38-20 getting 3 points at home Saturday night.

“After opening USC -3.5, early bettors took the points with Stanford, and the line moved very quickly to the Trojans as field-goal favorites,” Mason said. “Since the line movement, more bets are on USC, with only 30 percent of the bettors taking Stanford. This lopsided bet count is a little surprising, since the public didn’t back USC too much during the second half of the season. Perhaps the Trojans’ 42-24 thrashing of the Cardinal back in September is still on the minds of the masses. Of the Power Five conference championship games, this one is getting the fewest bets by far.”

Pac-12 Championship

Stanford Cardinal vs. USC Trojans (-3, 57.5)

Cardinal's ball-hawking prowess vs. Trojans' turnover troubles

Things looked bleak early in the season for Stanford, but wins in eight of their final nine games have the Cardinal facing the USC Trojans for Pac-12 supremacy this Friday night. Stanford running back Bryce Love might be on the outside looking in for the Heisman Trophy, but it was still a sensational season for the 5-10 dynamo, who racked up nearly 1,900 yards on the ground. But the focus here isn't on Love: rather, it's on the significant advantage Stanford has in the turnover department.

Stanford has one of the most dangerous secondaries in the nation, finishing the regular season tied for 10th among FBS teams in interceptions (16). Combine that with eight fumble recoveries in 12 games, and the Cardinal finished tied for 11th in total turnovers gained with 24. Stanford won the turnover battle by a 3-0 margin in last weekend's 38-20 victory over the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, and forced two turnovers in their earlier meeting with the Trojans, a 42-24 setback in their second game of the season.

USC dominated that initial matchup despite losing the turnover battle, but will need to be better in that department if it hopes for a similar result this Friday. The Trojans finished outside the top 100 nationally in total turnovers allowed with 22 - 10 fumbles lost and 12 interceptions. USC turned the ball over a combined five times in its two regular-season losses to Washington and Notre Dame - and if it can't do a better job against the Cardinal, it could have one more loss on its 2017 ledger.

Preview: Warriors at MagicGracenote
Nov 30, 2017

The Golden State Warriors got their two MVPs back on Wednesday but still needed overtime to win the opener of a six-game road trip. The Warriors will try to take care of things before the end of regulation when the trip hits the east coast with a visit to the Orlando Magic on Friday.

The banged-up defending champions are staring at a stretch of three games in four days in three different cities and declared Stephen Curry (hand), Kevin Durant (ankle), Andre Iguodala (knee) and David West (knee) all probable for Friday's tilt against the Magic while Klay Thompson (ankle) is questionable. All but West were available for the opener of the trip at the Los Angeles Lakers on Wednesday, and Curry, Durant and Thompson combined for 77 points in the 127-123 overtime triumph. The Magic ended a nine-game slide with a 121-108 win over the Oklahoma City Thunder on Wednesday and were happy to get out of the funk. "There's no getting around that -- it's a relief to get around that part of it (the losing streak) and to get a W and understand that we've said repeatedly throughout this that we've got a good team and we've just got to play a complete game," Orlando coach Frank Vogel told reporters. "And now our assignment is to do it again."
TV: 7 p.m. ET, NBCS Bay Area (Golden State), FS Florida (Orlando)

ABOUT THE WARRIORS (16-6): Golden State leads the NBA in scoring (117.3 points) and is among the leaders in field-goal percentage defense (.434) but still doesn't seem to be playing in its top gear on a consistent basis. "I didn't think we competed tonight," coach Steve Kerr told reporters after Wednesday's victory. "I don't think we've really competed that well all year. It's just the way it is right now." Curry is dealing with a painful injury to the ring finger on his right hand and was just 6-of-17 from the field through the first four quarters on Wednesday before knocking down a pair of 3-pointers in overtime and scoring 13 of his 28 points in the final five minutes.
ABOUT THE MAGIC (9-13): Power forward Aaron Gordon exploded for 40 points and 15 rebounds in Wednesday's win. The 22-year-old is shooting 51 percent from the floor on the season and is 12-of-23 from 3-point range over his last three games. "He's just hungry, he wants to prove himself so much," veteran Arron Afflalo told the team's website of Gordon. "It's just about tempering your ego, tempering your self-motivation to make sure that everything works within the group. When he plays within the confines of the offense and with the team, he's unbelievable. He's got a high motor, very athletic and very skilled around the entire floor. He's going to be a great player."

BUZZER BEATERS

1. Orlando SF Terrence Ross is out indefinitely due to a sprained MCL and a non-displaced fracture in his right leg.

2. Thompson made at least four 3-pointers in each of the last four games.

3. Golden State took the last nine in the series, including a 110-100 home win on Nov. 13.

Preview: Pistons at WizardsGracenote
Nov 30, 2017

The Washington Wizards are already enduring a stretch without one star guard and they now have to hold their breath on another. The Wizards hope to have sharpshooter Bradley Beal in the lineup Friday when they make a pit stop at home to take on the streaking Detroit Pistons.

With John Wall sitting out his third straight game due to lingering knee issues, Beal took an elbow in the face during Wednesday's 118-113 loss at Philadelphia and will undergo further testing Thursday. "The eye is very important, so [the doctor] said there might be some things in the back going on that might not affect you right now but could affect me tonight or tomorrow," Beal told the Washington Post. The Wizards would love to have all hands on deck against a Pistons unit that has claimed three straight, including an impressive 10-point win at Eastern Conference-leading Boston and a 131-107 rout of Phoenix on Wednesday. "I thought it was very impressive to come out and play the way we did tonight after a huge win on Monday," Detroit coach Stan Van Gundy told reporters after the win over the Suns. "We were really on it from the start defensively, and we were moving the ball and playing with energy on offense."

TV: 7 p.m. ET, FS Detroit, NBCS Washington

ABOUT THE PISTONS (14-6): Reggie Jackson produced 23 points on 9-of-13 shooting in Detroit's finest offensive output of the season Wednesday night, and the star guard was also impressed with how his team avoided a letdown following the win in Boston. "It was easy to get fired up for our last two games, but we had to find a way to bring energy to ourselves tonight," Jackson told the media. "We locked in and stayed with the game plan and our fans were amazing. We were more mature in our approach." Jackson's backup, Ish Smith, is averaging 12.3 points and 4.3 assists in 21 minutes during the three-game winning streak.

ABOUT THE WIZARDS (11-10): Beal still managed 21 points in 23 minutes before fouling out in the loss to Philadelphia, which saw Washington - led largely by its bench - make a furious comeback with 48 fourth-quarter points. Kelly Oubre Jr. led the charge by the reserves with 22 points, which comes a game after his 16 points paced a 49-point barrage by the bench in a win at Minnesota. Beal had 25 points to help Washington top Detroit 115-111 earlier this season.

BUZZER BEATERS

1. This marks one of just two home games in a span of 25 days for Washington.

2. Pistons C Andre Drummond, who averages 0.9 assists for his career, has 13 over the last two contests.

3. Wizards SG Jodie Meeks scored a season-high 21 points against the Sixers and is 7-for-12 from 3-point range over his last two games.

Preview: Pacers at RaptorsGracenote
Nov 30, 2017

The Toronto Raptors are winners of five straight at home and will try to avenge one of their recent road losses when they host the Indiana Pacers on Friday. The Raptors took five of their last seven overall but could not find a way around the Pacers in Indiana last Friday and ended up with a 107-104 setback.

Toronto bounced back from that defeat in impressive fashion with a 112-78 bludgeoning of the Atlanta Hawks to finish out the road trip and returned to Canada for the start of a three-game homestand with a 126-113 win over the Charlotte Hornets on Wednesday, but that didn't stop coach Dwane Casey from sounding off about a trend of lackluster third-quarter play. "That's totally unacceptable," Casey told reporters. "We're not going to win anything if we come out with that attitude, if we don't fix it. Again, we've talked about, I don't know, start another five to start the second half? It's just mind-boggling." The Pacers are winners of six of their last eight games, with the two losses coming to conference leaders Boston and Houston. "That's exactly what I told our guys, that these are very good teams and it's going to be a challenge to not only play and defend them, but execute offensively against them," Indiana coach Nate McMillan told reporters.
TV: 7:30 p.m. ET, FS Indiana, TSN 1/4 (Toronto)

ABOUT THE PACERS (12-10): Indiana brought in shooting guard Victor Oladipo from the Oklahoma City Thunder as part of the Paul George trade over the summer and is getting a leader as well as a new high scorer (22.8 points). Oladipo, who hit his first 11 shots in a 121-109 win over Orlando on Monday, scored 19 points in Wednesday's 118-97 loss to the Rockets and feels his team is capable of competing with the top teams. "They really made some tough shots in the second half and we missed some shots that we normally make today," Oladipo told reporters after the loss. "But you have to give them credit as they played well down the stretch. There's some things we can do better, obviously, and we have to continue to keep getting better."
ABOUT THE RAPTORS (13-7): Toronto has a pair of high-scoring guards in DeMar DeRozan and Kyle Lowry, who combined for 66 points in Wednesday's win. Lowry scored a season-high 36 points in the victory while going 12-of-18 from the field and 8-of-11 from 3-point range. "You're just trying to find him, whatever," reserve guard Fred VanVleet told the Toronto Star of Lowry. "I think I had one I could have shot and I saw him, I gave it up right away. Eight-for-11 from 3 is pretty impressive and, when he's got it going like that, it's pretty hard to guard."

BUZZER BEATERS

1. Raptors PF Serge Ibaka is 0-of-12 from 3-point range over the last four games.

2. Pacers C Myles Turner (knee soreness) is questionable for Friday.

3. Toronto beat Indiana twice at home last season by an average of 18 points.

Preview: Hornets at HeatGracenote
Nov 30, 2017

The Miami Heat looked listless without star center Hassan Whiteside in a loss at Madison Square Garden on Wednesday and they may need to find a way to get by without their big man going forward. Whiteside will be questionable with an ongoing knee issue when the Heat begin a two-game homestand against the Charlotte Hornets on Friday.

Whiteside was absent for the 115-86 loss to the New York Knicks and expressed concern for the injury that has caused him to miss six games on the season. "It has really been bothering me throughout the season," said Whiteside, who is averaging 14.9 points and 12.7 rebounds. "You know, I sat out, I missed them games, I came back, and it's still bothering me." If shorthanded, the Heat could be getting the Hornets at a good time, as Charlotte lost three in a row after a 126-113 setback at Toronto on Wednesday and could be without point guard and leading scorer Kemba Walker (shoulder). Walker missed the loss to the Raptors as his team fell to 1-9 on the road.

TV: 8 p.m. ET, FS Southeast (Charlotte), FS Sun (Miami)

ABOUT THE HORNETS (8-12): Coach Steve Clifford told reporters that Walker's shoulder is still very sore, leaving the All-Star guard questionable going into Friday. His replacement against Toronto, Michael Carter-Williams, was 1-for-10 from the floor and is 1-for-15 with 10 turnovers in 49 minutes over his last two games. Backup guard Jeremy Lamb had 18 points in Wednesday's loss and scored in double figures in all but one game this season.

ABOUT THE HEAT (10-11): With Whiteside hobbled, guard Goran Dragic's sudden slump comes at a bad time. Dragic, who averaged 23.7 points during a recent three-game winning streak, produced a total of 13 points on 4-of-17 shooting during the team's two-game slide, missing all five of his 3-point attempts. "We have to figure out this thing quick and, you know, just bring that energy every night," Dragic told reporters in New York. "If you play hard and you lose, you can check yourself in the mirror and say they were just better. But if you don't give everything you've got, you can't say that."

BUZZER BEATERS

1. Heat C Kelly Olynyk scored a team-high 18 points in Wednesday's loss and is averaging 11.3 while making 7-of-11 3-pointers over his last four games.

2. Lamb is 28-for-29 from the line over a span of eight games.

3. The teams split four meetings last season, each team going 1-1 on its home floor.

Preview: Kings at BullsGracenote
Dec 1, 2017

The Sacramento Kings haven't won in Chicago this decade but figure to have a good shot at halting their seven-game skid at the United Center when they visit the hapless Bulls on Friday. Sacramento last left the Windy City victorious on Dec. 21, 2009, but the current version of the Bulls owns the worst record in the NBA at 3-17.

Chicago played well but suffered a 111-110 loss at Denver on Thursday - its seventh straight setback and 12th in the last 13 games. "We had a lot of really good performances and I really thought we battled," Bulls coach Fred Hoiberg told reporters. "That is what you have to do on the road to give yourself a chance. I am really proud of our guys." Sacramento is just 2-9 on the road as it begins a four-game trek, but it did defeat Golden State in its most-recent road contest. However, the Kings followed up the impressive victory with a dreadful performance as they suffered a 112-87 home loss to Milwaukee.

TV: 8 p.m. ET, NBCSN California (Sacramento), NBCSN Chicago

ABOUT THE KINGS (6-15): Sacramento scored just 11 second-quarter points and trailed by 24 at halftime during the poor showing against Milwaukee. "We didn't do the things we needed to do to make it a close game," rookie guard Frank Mason III told reporters. "They got anywhere they wanted on the court, a lot of easy layups, uncontested shots, things like that." The Kings allowed the Bucks to shoot 59.2 percent while hitting only 40.3 percent of their attempts, with shooting guard Garrett Temple (18 points) being the lone productive starter.

ABOUT THE BULLS (3-17): Forward Nikola Mirotic (facial fractures) is about to return and was assigned to the Windy City Bulls of the G League as Hoiberg said he needs to get in game shape. Mirotic hasn't played this season after getting punched in the face by teammate Bobby Portis during a training-camp altercation, and both players have reached an uneasy truce and are prepared to get along. "Why couldn't I? We're teammates, just trying to help this team win as much as possible," Portis told reporters. "Obviously, we're struggling right now trying to find a win, and I just want to do everything I can to help my team find a win."

BUZZER BEATERS

1. The Bulls have won the last five meetings, including both of last season's matchups.

2. Sacramento C Willie Cauley-Stein is averaging 16 points on 27-of-43 shooting over his last four games.

3. Chicago SG Zach LaVine (knee) also was sent to Windy City and should make his team debut by mid-December.

Preview: Spurs at GrizzliesGracenote
Nov 30, 2017

The Memphis Grizzlies are losers of nine straight games and are on their second coach of the season after firing David Fizdale on Monday and naming J.B. Bickerstaff as the interim head coach. Bickerstaff will try to earn his first win at the helm when the Grizzlies host the San Antonio Spurs in the back end of a home-and-home set on Friday.

Memphis did not make any drastic improvements in its first game under Bickerstaff and was held below 100 points for the sixth straight game while struggling to defend in a 104-95 loss at San Antonio on Wednesday. "Every night we show up, you can guarantee (the players are) going to give you what they got," Bickerstaff told reporters. "That's the only way you'll get out of it. If you're down on yourself and feeling sorry for ourselves, no one is coming to save us. The only way we'll get out of it is we'll tighten up in that room in there, which we've done. We'll band together, go keep competing and the opportunity will come, and we'll get our win." To get that win, the Grizzlies will have to find a way to stop Spurs power forward LaMarcus Aldridge. The veteran had his way with the Memphis front line on Wednesday while going off for 41 points on 17-of-24 shooting.
TV: 8 p.m. ET, FS Southwest (San Antonio), FS Southeast (Memphis)

ABOUT THE SPURS (14-7): Aldridge is on fire of late and is 30-of-43 from the floor in the last two games, including 3-of-3 from 3-point range, and didn't miss a free throw in any of the last five contests. Aldridge figures to get some help with the scoring load eventually from All-Star Kawhi Leonard, who is inching back from a quad injury and has yet to make his season debut, but for now seems comfortable as the main piece. Tony Parker (quad) is on a minutes limit two games into his own return from a quad injury but managed 10 points in 18 minutes during Wednesday's win.
ABOUT THE GRIZZLIES (7-13): Memphis general manager Chris Wallace was adamant that the team is not in a rebuilding mode with the firing of Fizdale, and he has no plans to shop stars Marc Gasol or Mike Conley. "We're full speed ahead," Wallace told ESPN.com. "We've been in the playoffs seven years in a row. We've got a team when fully healthy and we get everything together is more athletic, more versatile and more potent offensively than we've had for a number of years. Even though the going has been a little difficult early, there's still 62 (games) to play. We believe in this team. We're hoping -- got our fingers crossed -- that we'll get everybody healthy soon." The biggest missing piece is Conley, who sat out the last seven games with an Achilles injury but is expected back in 2-3 weeks.

BUZZER BEATERS

1. Grizzlies SF Chandler Parsons (knee soreness) sat out Wednesday and is day-to-day.

2. Spurs SF Kyle Anderson scored in double figures in each of the last six games.

3. San Antonio took the last three regular-season meetings and won once at Memphis during the first round of the playoffs last spring -- a 103-96 triumph in the clinching Game 6.

Preview: Timberwolves at ThunderGracenote
Nov 30, 2017

Things are not going well for the Oklahoma City Thunder of late, and a second-half meltdown in Orlando on Wednesday was the latest issue. The Thunder will try to solve some of their problems in front of their own fans when they open a three-game homestand by hosting the Minnesota Timberwolves on Friday.

Oklahoma City owns one win in its last six games -- an impressive triumph over the defending champion Golden State Warriors -- and watched its offense grind to a halt while the Magic used a 26-3 run in the second half on Wednesday to turn a close game into a 121-108 win. "As a team, we have to know what is working for us and staying steady and staying with it," Thunder forward Paul George told reporters. "We're great when we're locked into our system. That's where we have to be. We have to find that level of play every possession for 48 minutes." The Timberwolves can relate to that kind of inconsistency after trading wins and losses over the last six games, and they followed up a 92-89 loss at home to Washington on Tuesday with a 120-102 win the next night at New Orleans. "In the NBA, there's an excuse every night," Minnesota coach Tom Thibodeau told reporters. "Whether it's travel, injuries, back-to-backs. Or you can make good. When the ball goes up, you have to be ready to go."
TV: 8 p.m. ET, NBATV, FS North (Minnesota), FS Oklahoma

ABOUT THE TIMBERWOLVES (13-9): Minnesota tends to ebb and flow based on the play of swingman Jimmy Butler, who went for 19 points on 8-of-12 shooting on Wednesday after going 5-of-17 from the floor in Tuesday's setback. "We played great as a team," Butler told reporters. "When we're out there playing hard, moving that ball, playing with so much confidence, it looks like some pretty good basketball." Butler is shooting 45.8 percent from the field in wins and 41 percent in losses, a trait he shares with center Karl-Anthony Towns (54.5 percent in wins, 50 percent in losses), who averaged 30 points and 15.5 rebounds in two wins over Oklahoma City in October.
ABOUT THE THUNDER (8-12): Reigning MVP Russell Westbrook is committed to building a strong bond on the court with stars George and Carmelo Anthony and finding a consistent rhythm that allows the team to be successful. "We have to lock in," Westbrook told reporters. "That starts with me and I take ownership in everything that is going on because I've been here. I know the standards that we set here in Oklahoma City. I have to set an example. It starts with me and we're going to turn this thing around." Westbrook totaled 37 points and 11 rebounds in his fifth straight game with at least a double-double on Wednesday but committed seven turnovers and went for an x-ray after the game on a bruised left hand that came back negative.

BUZZER BEATERS

1. George scored 22 points on 7-of-17 shooting Wednesday after managing two points on 1-of-12 from the floor in a loss at Dallas on Saturday.

2. Timberwolves C Gorgui Dieng scored 19 points on Wednesday -- two more than in his previous four games combined.

3. Minnesota took the first two meetings this season by a combined five points.

Preview: Pelicans at JazzGracenote
Dec 1, 2017

The Utah Jazz are recovering from a slow start and look to win their fifth consecutive contest when they host the New Orleans Pelicans on Friday. Utah erupted for 100 points over the final three quarters and established a season-high scoring output with Thursday's 126-107 road win over the Los Angeles Clippers.

The Jazz are averaging 115.8 points and a winning margin of 22.8 during their winning streak as the offense has begun clicking after some early-season issues. "We've got a lot of great, talented guys here," backup guard Alec Burks told reporters after the win over the Clippers. "We're playing with pace and tempo and making great reads. It's good to play a fast pace." New Orleans has dropped its last two games, and star power forward Anthony Davis was ejected for the first time in his career in Wednesday's 120-102 loss to Minnesota when he argued after being called for an offensive foul. "When we lost A.D., that changed everything," Pelicans coach Alvin Gentry told reporters. "He did exactly what we told him to do, take the ball strong to the basket. We tell our big guys to take the ball to the basket hard and try to create contact. I'll leave it at that."

TV: 9 p.m. ET, FSN New Orleans, AT&T SportsNet-Rocky Mountain (Utah)

ABOUT THE PELICANS (11-10): New Orleans figures to ride Davis (25.6 points) and center DeMarcus Cousins (25.1) in the interior on Friday with stellar Utah defender Rudy Gobert still sidelined with a leg injury. Cousins was held to 17 points by Minnesota without his running mate and said the situation was difficult to deal with during the flow of the contest. "It was tough adjusting like that on the fly," Cousins told reporters. "Things like that happen. We should've done a better job regrouping, gathering ourselves and finishing the game as a team."

ABOUT THE JAZZ (11-11): Shooting guard Rodney Hood (ankle) is slated to miss his third consecutive game, but Burks picked up the scoring slack against Los Angeles with season bests of 28 points, seven rebounds, five assists and three steals. Burks received 29 minutes of playing time and was 11-of-17 shooting, including four 3-pointers. "He was terrific," coach Quin Snyder told reporters. "He is getting more and more solid defensively. Alec got buckets. He is capable of doing that, and we rode him for a long time."

BUZZER BEATERS

1. The Jazz went 3-0 against the Pelicans last season and have won the last four meetings.

2. New Orleans G Jrue Holiday scored 27 points versus Minnesota and is averaging 25.5 over his last two contests.

3. Utah rookie SG Donovan Mitchell had made 13 3-pointers while averaging 21.3 points over his last three games.

Preview: Penguins at SabresGracenote
Dec 1, 2017

The Pittsburgh Penguins have been patient over the years with Tristan Jarry, a luxury that a team can afford with Marc-Andre Fleury and Matt Murray ahead of him on the depth chart. With Fleury now in Vegas and Murray considered week-to-week with a lower-body injury, the visiting Penguins likely will turn to Jarry on Friday for the opener of a home-and-home series against the Buffalo Sabres.

"We believe he is a solid goalie. I think the game he played against Tampa is a perfect example of what he's capable of," coach Mike Sullivan said of the 22-year-old Jarry, a second-round pick of the 2013 draft. "Tristan is going to have to make timely saves for us game in and game out. We believe he can do that." Belief may be in short supply in Western New York, as the Sabres have been shut out in back-to-back encounters, have lost nine of 10 overall and have seen their 30th-ranked power play go 0-for-18 in the last seven contests. "We have to have some attitude when we start the game," Buffalo coach Phil Housley said. "This is our home rink. We've got to get out and establish a forecheck, show more emotion on the ice."

TV: 7 p.m. ET, AT&TSN-Pittsburgh, Sportsnet, TVAS, MSG-B (Buffalo)

ABOUT THE PENGUINS (13-10-3): Captain Sidney Crosby has recorded back-to-back three-point performances, highlighted by recording his 11th career regular-season overtime goal in Monday's 5-4 win over Philadelphia to move into a tie with Mario Lemieux and Evgeni Malkin for the most in franchise history. The two-time Hart Trophy winner has 10 points in his last four games, including setting up a power-play goal in each of those contests. Phil Kessel also is riding a four-game point streak, with three goals and five assists in that stretch.

ABOUT THE SABRES (6-15-4): Zach Bogosian, who has been sidelined with a lower-body injury, is in line to make his season debut on Friday after participating in a full practice for the third time this week. "I've had a couple good days of practice," Bogosian said. "I feel ready. We'll see what tomorrow brings, but I'm sure I'll have a conversation with Coach sometime either today or tomorrow morning and go from there." Robin Lehner was absent from practice due to a maintenance day, but Housley expects the netminder back on the ice for Friday's game.

OVERTIME

1. Pittsburgh C Jake Guentzel has scored five times in his last four games to tie Kessel for the team lead in goals (11).

2. Buffalo C Jack Eichel scored and set up a goal in a 5-4 overtime loss to the Penguins on Nov. 14 after notching just one assist in the previous five career encounters versus the club.

3. Pittsburgh LW Conor Sheary, who scored twice in the previous meeting with Buffalo, has been held off the scoresheet in each of his last five games and nine of his last 12.

PREDICTION: Penguins 5, Sabres 3

Preview: Senators at IslandersGracenote
Dec 1, 2017

The New York Islanders are averaging the most goals per game in the NHL and that offense has been especially lethal at home, where the team has yet to lose in regulation. The surging Islanders have won four consecutive games and seven of their last eight as they prepare to host the ice-cold Ottawa Senators on Friday night.

New York improved to 8-0-2 at Barclays Center with Tuesday's 5-2 drubbing of Vancouver, marking the 11th time they have scored at least five goals and the seventh time in the 10 home games. "We're playing well offensively," Islanders coach Doug Weight said. "We have guys playing with a lot of confidence who are consistently figuring each other out." The opposite holds true for the Senators, who enter the second stop of a seven-game road trip mired in a seven-game losing streak, including a 2-1 setback to New York on Saturday night. Ottawa has not won since sweeping a pair of games from Colorado in Sweden on Nov. 10-11 and has scored a paltry nine goals during the 0-6-1 slide.

TV: 7 p.m. ET, TSN5, RDS (Ottawa), MSG-Plus (New York), NHL.TV

ABOUT THE SENATORS (8-9-6): Captain Erik Karlsson remains stuck on one goal and has not collected a point in seven games -- the defenseman's longest drought since an eight-game spell as a rookie. He caused a stir off the ice after Thursday's practice when he addressed his contract, which runs through the 2018-19 season. “When I go to market, I’m going to get what I’m worth, and it’s going to be no less, no matter where I’m going,” Karlsson said. "I think it’s time to realize that when we go to the table, it’s business on both parts, not just (owners).”

ABOUT THE ISLANDERS (15-7-2): Jordan Eberle has notched all 10 of his goals over the past 14 games after scoring for the third straight game Tuesday, capping a three-goal first period for New York, which is 10-0-0 when netting the opening goal. "When you start like that it's tough for teams to come back," Eberle said. "We want to continue to start well and we've been good at home so far and we want to keep that going." Captain John Tavares has 10 points in the last eight games to tie Josh Bailey for the team scoring lead.

OVERTIME

1. Islanders C Mathew Barzal leads all rookies with 24 points and owns a seven-game point streak, the longest in the NHL.

2. Ottawa's power play is in a 3-for-26 rut over the past seven games.

3. Tavares needs one point to tie Pat LaFontaine (566) for sixth place on the franchise's all-time list.

Preview: Hurricanes at RangersGracenote
Nov 30, 2017

The New York Rangers saw their eight-game home winning streak come to a halt in their last outing, but coach Alain Vigneault's team has an even longer run under the belts heading into Friday's tilt versus the Carolina Hurricanes. The Rangers have won a staggering 13 straight versus the Hurricanes, including a 6-1 drubbing of coach Bill Peters' club on Nov. 22.

Mika Zibanejad collected a goal and an assist in that contest, but New York's leader in goals (11) and points (22) was a late scratch for Tuesday's game against Florida before Vigneault told reporters two days later that the 24-year-old Swede is out indefinitely with a concussion. David Desharnais fared well in his stead, notching three assists on a line with Chris Kreider and Pavel Buchnevich in the Rangers' 5-4 loss to the Panthers. The Hurricanes also fell on Tuesday, dropping their third contest in four outings with a 3-2 shootout at Columbus. Sebastian Aho, who was held off the scoresheet in that game as well as the two that preceded it, capped a five-game goal-scoring spree with Carolina's lone tally versus the New York.

TV: 7 p.m. ET, FSN Carolinas, MSG (New York)

ABOUT THE HURRICANES (10-8-5): Scott Darling was gashed for all six goals in the first encounter versus New York - including Zibanejad's soft wrist shot from center ice that the 28-year-old netminder joked that he "lost it in the lights." The 28-year-old has rebounded in a big way, turning aside eight of nine shots in relief on Friday versus Toronto before stopping 68 of 73 shots in back-to-back shootouts versus Nashville and Columbus. Jeff Skinner leads the team with nine goals, but only two were scored in November.

ABOUT THE RANGERS (13-10-2): Kreider collected two goals and an assist versus the Panthers to increase his point total to eight (five goals, three assists) in his last seven games. Included in that stretch is a two-goal performance versus Carolina in the first encounter, giving the 26-year-old multi-point performances in each of the last three meetings with the Hurricanes. Impressive numbers to be certain, but Henrik Lundqvist may have him beat as the 2012 Vezina Trophy winner owns a scintillating 17-3-0 mark with a 1.77 goals-against average and .940 save percentage in his last 20 appearances against the Hurricanes.

OVERTIME

1. New York F Mats Zuccarello, who leads the team with 16 assists, has scored one goal and set up five others during his five-game point streak.

2. Carolina C Jordan Staal has one point in his last six games after erupting for six assists in his previous two.

3. The Rangers' winning streak versus the Hurricanes is their longest against one opponent in franchise history.

Preview: Ducks at Blue JacketsGracenote
Dec 1, 2017

The Anaheim Ducks have responded well to their two worst losses this season, rebounding from each by knocking off a conference leader in their next game. Fresh off a 3-2 victory at Western Conference-best St. Louis, the Ducks will feature a new-look lineup when they continue a six-game road trip at the Columbus Blue Jackets on Friday night.

The Ducks, who had lost four in a row prior to beating the Blues, made a move to bolster their injury ravaged lineup by shipping defenseman Sami Vatanen to New Jersey in exchange for centers Adam Henrique, Joseph Blandisi and a 2018 condition third-round draft pick. “You never like to give up a guy like Sami because he’s such a competitive player and has done so many good things for us," Anaheim general manager Bob Murray said. "It probably wasn’t easy for them to give up Adam either. Hopefully this one works out for both teams.” The Blue Jackets rebounded from a 3-1 loss at Montreal on Monday with a 3-2 shootout win over Carolina 24 hours later, the eighth victory in nine games for the Metropolitan Division leaders. Cam Atkinson and Artemi Panarin converted both attempts in the shootout for Columbus, which improved to a league-best 8-0-1 in games that went to overtime.

TV: 7 p.m. ET; Prime Ticket (Anaheim), FSN Ohio (Columbus), NHL.TV

ABOUT THE DUCKS (11-10-4): With leading scorer Rickard Rakell missing the last three games and top centers Ryan Getzlaf and Ryan Kesler each out for a length time, Murray made the move to import Henrique, who scored 20 goals last season and a career-best 30 in 2015-16. Henrique played well in New Jersey's run to the Stanley Cup Finals in 2011-12, collecting 13 points in 24 games. “He’ll kill penalties. He can help out on the power play. Has got a really good shot. Really good release," Ducks defenseman Cam Fowler said. "I think it’s great for us.”

ABOUT THE BLUE JACKETS (16-8-1): Forward Josh Anderson is meshing well on the top line with Panarin and rookie Pierre-Luc Dubois, scoring his ninth goal Tuesday to extend his point streak to a career-best four games. “You can see Andy is feeling it, too,” coach John Tortorella told the Columbus Dispatch. “He thinks that he should be doing these things (and) that he needs to take it to another level. ... Because there is another level with Andy." The power play is still sputtering, converting on 1 of 29 chances over the past dozen games.

OVERTIME

1. Blue Jackets G Sergei Bobrovsky has not allowed more than two goals in eight consecutive starts.

2. Blandisi has eight goals and 18 assists in 68 NHL games.

3. Columbus has won three straight overall and three in a row at home against the Ducks.

Preview: Sharks at PanthersGracenote
Nov 30, 2017

The Florida Panthers hope the third time is the charm as they attempt to extend their winning streak to a season-high three games on Friday against the visiting San Jose Sharks. Florida exited the Metropolitan area with a pair of one-goal victories, highlighted by Roberto Luongo becoming the second goalie in NHL history to win 200 games with two different teams following a 3-2 triumph versus New Jersey on Monday.

Luongo, who is expected to get the start on Friday, turned aside all 35 shots he faced in a 2-0 victory over the Sharks on Nov. 16 to give coach Bob Boughner a win in his return to San Jose. Boughner served as an assistant coach for the Sharks in the previous two seasons before becoming the bench boss with Florida. The Panthers are just 5-4-2 at home and face a San Jose club that has secured at least a point in seven of nine (6-2-1) away from the SAP Center. "Our style is good for the road, but I think our style is good for wherever we are playing," defenseman Marc-Edouard Vlasic said after the Sharks opened their four-game road trip with a 3-1 win at free-falling Philadelphia.

TV: 7:30 p.m. ET, NBCSN California (San Jose), FSN Florida

ABOUT THE SHARKS (13-8-2): Veteran Joe Thornton extended his point streak to four games with a power-play goal against the Flyers, giving him two goals and three assists in that stretch. Logan Couture set up Thornton for that goal and also assisted on a second-period tally from Vlasic, giving him back-to-back multi-point performances. Aaron Dell, who is in line to start back-to-back games for the first time in his NHL career, turned aside 22 shots in place of the injured Martin Jones (undisclosed) on Tuesday.

ABOUT THE PANTHERS (10-12-2): Colton Scevior and Nick Bjugstad each scored a goal in the first encounter versus San Jose and both centers notched an assist in Florida's 5-4 win over the New York Rangers on Tuesday. Jonathan Huberdeau (team-leading 17 assists, 25 points) collected a goal and two assists in that contest after mustering just one point (an assist) in his previous six games. Fellow forward Vincent Trocheck leads the club with 10 goals, but has just two in his last nine outings.

OVERTIME

1. San Jose F Joonas Donskoi (upper body) is considered "day-to-day and making good progress," general manager Doug Wilson wrote via text message to The Athletic.

2. The Panthers' 28th-ranked penalty kill has thwarted all nine short-handed situations over the last four games and both of the Sharks' power plays in the first encounter.

3. San Jose has scored with the man advantage in three straight contests and four of its last five after going 0-for-17 in its previous six.

Preview: Kings at BluesGracenote
Dec 1, 2017

The St. Louis Blues were perfect in their own rink during October but have been just average at Scottrade Center since, needing a victory over the visiting Los Angeles Kings on Friday to clinch a winning five-game homestand. The Blues were 5-0-0 at home in October and have gone 4-4-0 in their last eight games in St. Louis after dropping a 3-2 decision against Anaheim on Wednesday.

“For me, right now, we’re not consistently hard enough to play against at home,” Blues coach Mike Yeo told reporters. “It seems like we do it for a game and then we kind of back off a game. … Whether we just come to the rink with the assumption that the result is going our way, I’m not sure. We earned the position that we’re in. We’re in a good spot, but we have to remember that we earned it.” St. Louis still is just one point behind Tampa Bay (36) for the most in the league and is 5-1-0 in its last six meetings with Los Angeles, including a 4-2 home victory on Oct. 30. Los Angeles has turned things around following a baffling 1-6-1 stretch, recording three straight wins - including a 5-2 victory at Washington on Thursday in which Marian Gaborik scored a pair of goals. The 35-year-old Slovakian was playing in just his fourth game of the season due to injuries and pulled within two of both 400 goals and 800 points.

TV: 8 p.m. ET, FSN West (Los Angeles), FSN Midwest (St. Louis)

ABOUT THE KINGS (15-8-3): Los Angeles earned a big victory on Thursday without a point from its top three scorers - captain Anze Kopitar (12 goals, 16 assists), Dustin Brown (10, 11) and defenseman Drew Doughty (four, 14). Rookie forward Jonny Brodzinski scored his second NHL goal and Jussi Jokinen netted the go-ahead tally - his first goal in eight contests since being acquired from Edmonton. Jonathan Quick made 27 saves for his third straight victory (four goals allowed in that span) but has yet to play on back-to-back nights this season and is 8-11-3 lifetime versus St. Louis.

ABOUT THE BLUES (17-7-1): St. Louis has allowed a pair of power-play goals in each of its last two games and dropped to 27th in the league in penalty-killing (17.9 percent) through Wednesday’s contests. “I think we’ve got to stop the bleeding now and find a way to get better,” forward Kyle Brodziak told reporters. “We’ve still got time, but a game like (Wednesday), the penalty kill could have found a way to win a game for us, and instead, we found a way to lose the game.” Jaden Schwartz has recorded 15 points in his last 11 games and leads the team with 32.

OVERTIME

1. St. Louis RW Vladimir Tarasenko, who is second on the team behind Schwartz (13) with 12 goals, has notched six points in his last four contests.

2. Los Angeles C Torrey Mitchell has yet to play his first game since being acquired from Montreal on Nov. 23 due to visa issues.

3. Blues C Patrik Berglund, who missed the team's first 24 games due to shoulder surgery, registered three shots in his season debut on Wednesday.

Preview: Golden Knights at JetsGracenote
Dec 1, 2017

The Vegas Golden Knights hope to avoid the second three-game slide in their brief history when they visit the Winnipeg Jets on Friday. Vegas, which lost three straight from Oct. 30-Nov. 2, had its three-game road winning streak snapped with Thursday's 4-2 setback against Minnesota.

Defenseman Brayden McNabb scored his first goal of the season a day after signing a four-year contract extension and reigning First Star of the Week Jonathan Marchessault also tallied for the Golden Knights, who allowed three unanswered goals in the third period en route to the loss. Winnipeg is coming off an overtime loss at Colorado on Wednesday in which it squandered a 2-1 lead in the third period. The Jets have performed well at home of late, winning four in a row while going 7-0-1 in their last eight. Mark Scheifele has registered four points in his last two contests and leads Winnipeg with 29.

TV: 8 p.m. ET, AT&T SportsNet-Rocky Mountain (Vegas), TSN3 (Winnipeg)

ABOUT THE GOLDEN KNIGHTS (15-8-1): Marchessault has scored in each of his last four road games and ranks second on the team with 22 points in 21 contests. The 26-year-old, who netted a career-high 30 tallies with Florida last season, captured the NHL's top player honors last week after recording a goal and two assists in each of his three games. Defenseman Luca Sbisa returned to the lineup Thursday after missing seven games with a lower-body injury and received 19 minutes, 8 seconds of ice time.

ABOUT THE JETS (15-6-4): Scheifele also tops the club with 12 goals and ranks second with five power-play tallies, which is two shy of his career high. Mathieu Perreault has scored one goal in his last five games and is three away from 100 in the NHL. Defenseman Dustin Byfuglien notched his 295th career assist on Wednesday but remains in search of his first goal of the season after reaching double digits in each of his previous four campaigns.

OVERTIME

1. Jets LW Nikolaj Ehlers has landed on the scoresheet in four of his last five games and leads the team with four game-winning goals.

2. Vegas G Malcolm Subban could be rested after making his fourth consecutive start on Thursday.

3. Winnipeg has not lost in regulation at home since dropping a 5-2 decision to Columbus on Oct. 17.

PREDICTION: Jets 4, Golden Knights 3

Preview: Devils at AvalancheGracenote
Dec 1, 2017

The New Jersey Devils are among the league's early-season surprises, battling for the top spot in the Metropolitan Division. That didn't stop New Jersey from swinging a three-player trade with Anaheim for defenseman Sami Vatanen, who is expected to be in the lineup Friday when the Devils open a three-game road trip at the Colorado Avalanche.

New Jersey traded longtime forward Adam Henrique along with Joseph Blandisi and a 2018 condition third-round pick to the Ducks in exchange for Vatanen. "Obviously he’s a very good friend, a very good teammate for a few years, we’re going to miss him," Devils captain Andy Greene said. "But we get another good player coming back, you have to give up good people and good players to get good players in return." Colorado also is off to an unexpected start and is already more than halfway to last season's league-worst total of 48 points. The Avalanche dropped a 4-1 decision at New Jersey in the second game of the season, but they are 8-2-0 at Pepsi Center as they continue a five-game homestand.

TV: 9 p.m. ET, MSG-Plus2 (New Jersey, Altitude (Colorado), NHL.TV

ABOUT THE DEVILS (14-6-4): Vatanen's acquisition overshadowed the homecoming of rookie defenseman Will Butcher, who won the Hobey Baker Award while leading Denver to the national title in April. General manager Ray Shero said Henrique was initially shocked by the deal but noted Vatanen fills both a short- and long-term need. "In acquiring Sami, we bring on a right shot, top-four defenseman who can play in all situations," Shero said. "This move also gives us contract certainty on the back end for the next two-plus years."

ABOUT THE AVALANCHE (12-9-2): Nathan MacKinnon put the finishing touches on a superb November by delivering the decisive goal in overtime in Wednesday's 3-2 win over Winnipeg. MacKinnon's strike came 30 seconds after he had the apparent game-winning tally waved off and pushed his total for the month to five goals and 15 assists for 20 points -- the latter two league highs. Starting netminder Semyon Varlamov returned for the lineup for the first time in 11 days and turned aside 31 of 33 shots.

OVERTIME

1. Colorado has won six straight at home in the series, limiting New Jersey to six goals.

2. Vatanen scored a career-high 12 goals in 2014-15, with seven coming on the power play.

3. Varlamov is 4-1-0 with eight goals allowed against the Devils.

PREDICTION: Avalanche 3, Devils 2

Stanford is 7-1 ATS in December and looks to avenge their September 9th loss to the Trojans, 24-42. USC has just two covers in its last 10 games, both coming against Arizona schools. Stanford has gone over in six of their last seven games on a neutral site. The Trojans are 5-1 O/U in their last six games and 4-0 O/U the last four times after a bye week. These clubs have gone over in 16 of their last 23 meetings. That's just what I look for here on Friday, a high scoring game. Play the OVER.

STEPHEN NOVER

Raptors-6½

There are reasons why Lance Stephenson has played for six NBA teams during his eight years in the league. One of the reasons is he's a dirty, unlikeable player. That was on display last Friday when Stephenson's Pacers edged the Raptors, 107-104, at home. Stephenson bodychecked DeMar DeRozan twice - and got away with it both times. The NBA league office later admitted both should have been called fouls. I bring this up because it's rematch time and the Raptors have strong, short-revenge motivation to bury the Pacers following that contentious game. Indiana is better than I expected at 12-10. Victor Oladipo has emerged as a star guard. But I want the Raptors going for me in this spot. Boston's great start has been the major topic in the Eastern Conference. Cleveland is never going to be underrated because of LeBron James. This leaves Toronto and Detriot somewhat underrated. The Raptors are in the argument for second-best team in the East. The Raptors shot 50.4 percent from the floor during their 14 November games, second-best in franchise history. Following the loss to the Pacers, the Raptors have gone on a tear defeating the Hawks on the road and Hornets at home by a combined 47 points. Toronto has won seven of its eight home games, including the last five. The Raptors beat the Pacers at home both times last season, winning those games by an average of 18 points.

Spurs vs. Grizzlies
Grizzlies+4

The numbers aren’t good for the Grizzlies, who have lost nine straight games and are a couple of months away from having “Lottery-Bound” added as a prefix. But in the wake of the firing of coach Dave Fizdale, GM Chris Wallace calmed things down considerably and may have saved the season when he said that the Grizz would not trade franchise pillar Marc Gasol. With injured Mike Conley out at least a few more weeks, that puts the onus clearly on Gasol to start producing and there’s no better time than the present with the Spurs in town. This may not be a must-win, but even for this early in the season it classifies as a “Must Play Well” game for Memphis. Take the points here.

When they met in the regular season back in September, the teams combined for 66 big ones, as they game landed Over the posted price of 54 1/2 points.

I am NOT expecting a repeat at all on this neutral field.

Stanford simply cannot win this game if they think they are going to out-sling Sam Darnold, so expect the very wily Cardinal mentor David Shaw to play a little ball-control in this game and limit the time of possession for the Trojans and Darnold.

The Cardinal enter this game having played Under the total in their last pair of games, and in 8 of their last 9 games overall. The Trojans saw their string of 5 straight Overs halted in their last game against cross-town rival UCLA, and they are just 7-5 Over for the season.

Series numbers show 4 of the last 7 between the California schools holding Under the posted price.

USC is dangerous, that is for sure, but if I know that and the public knows that, don't you think the coaches on Stanford know it too?

Kudos to David Shaw who figures out a way to slow this SC offense down just enough in their rematch to keep it from landing Over.

Stanford-USC Under.

This game is as much about Orlando being bad as it is about Golden State being very good. Orlando finagled their first win in their last 10 games Wednesday night against an Oklahoma City team that has had their own serious problems this season thus far.

The Golden State Warriors do not have those type of problems. The Warriors have been to the Finals three straight years and have won two titles: and they’re more than capable turning on the switch and simply destroying this Orlando team who is 1-4-1 ATS in their last 6 games vs. a team with a winning straight up record. I'n fact, Orlando is 1-4 ATS in their last 5 home games vs. a team with a road winning % of greater than .600.

The Warriors are the free play.

4* GOLDEN STATE

10* FREE NCAAB PICK (Creighton +8)
Everyone knew that Gonzaga was going to be a good team this year, I don't know that people were expecting Creighton to look this good out of the gate, as the Bluejays lost 3 starters from last year's 25-10 team. However, they brought back two studs in senior Marcus Foster, who was a unanimous All-Big East 1st-Team selection and junior Khri Thomas who I think could receive all conference honors this year. Foster has led the way early with 18 ppg and Thomas is right behind at 16.8, giving them a potent 1-2 punch in the backcourt. They are also getting solid production out of sophomore Martin Krampelj, who is averaging 12.5 ppg and 7.2 rpg. The one thing I really love about this team is how they share the ball. Creighton averages 19 assists/game and have 6 different players averaging at least 2 assist per game. I think this is a much more evenly matched affair than people think and wouldn't be shocked if the Bluejays pulled off the upset. Give me Creighton +8!

The Golden State Warriors are vulnerable right now with all of the injuries they are dealing with. Kevin Durant, Stephen Curry, Andre Iguodala and David West are all hurt right now and expected to play through injuries tonight. Klay Thompson is questionable with an ankle injury. The Magic only lost 100-110 as 12.5-point road dogs at Golden State on November 13th in their first meeting this season. The Magic should be able to hang within 10 points of the Warriors at home this time around. They are coming off a 121-108 win over Oklahoma City and are ready for this challenge tonight. Give me the Magic.

NBA | Pelicans vs Jazz
Play on: Jazz +3 -115 at BMaker

Injuries to key players have not effected the Utah Jazz as much as many might have anticipated. Utah extended its winning streak to four games with a 126-107 victory over the Los Angeles Clippers on Thursday night and looked primed to cover as dogs here again tonight. Utah has won its last five games by an average of 26.2 points and scored more than 120 points in three of those tilts. Meanwhile, visiting New Orleans enters this game having lost two straight, and are fade material in their current form, vs a Utah side that matches up well against them as they swept the season series against the Pelicans last year . Note: The Jazz have won four straight games vs the New Orleans and haven't lost to them in two seasons.
UTAH is 21-7 ATS L/28 after 3 straight games committing 4+ less turnovers than opponents .

Ottawa vs. New York Over 5.5
The Sens and Islanders battle Friday and this Over is worth a move.
Ottawa has put in 3.0 goals per road game this season, as this team has actually been surprising on the offensive side. Mark Stone has been the leader of this offense, tallying 24 points in total and has really been one to feed off of. Defensively though, the Senators are allowing 3.13 goals per game, as they simply haven't been able to avoid the opposition getting shots in front of net.
On the counter side, the Islanders have been absolutely dominate. Averaging 3.67 goals per game, that number actually goes all the way up to 4.6 when playing at home.
Some trends to note. Over is 7-1-1 in Islanders last 9 vs. Eastern Conference. Over is 5-1 in Senators last 6 games playing on 1 days rest.
Expect some action here.
Back Over.
Good Luck, Razor Ray.

NBA | Pelicans vs Jazz
Play on: Pelicans -2½ -105 at 5Dimes

Jack’s Free Pick Friday: New Orleans Pelicans -2.5
I like the situation here for the New Orleans Pelicans. They will be playing just their 2nd game in 6 days here. They will be highly motivated for a victory after losing two straight coming in to Golden State and Minnesota, two of the best teams in the NBA.
Meanwhile, the Utah Jazz will be playing the 2nd of a back-to-back and their 3rd game in 4 days here. They have to travel back home from a road game at the Los Angeles Clippers last night. And I think the Jazz are being overvalued here due to winning and covering four straight coming in.
While the Pelicans are pretty much healthy right now, the Jazz are dealing with a ton of injuries. Rudy Robert, Joe Johnson and Dante Exum are all out, while both Rodney Hood and Raul Neto are questionable. Being short-handed makes this tough rest situation even more difficult for the Jazz tonight.
Utah is 1-10 ATS in home games after scoring four of their last five against the spread over the past three seasons. The Jazz are 9-20 ATS when playing their 3rd game in 4 days over the past two years. The Pelicans are 6-2 ATS in their last eight road games. Bet the Pelicans Friday.

1* on Detroit Pistons -1.5
The Key: Stan Van Gundy has the Detroit Pistons playing at a very high level right now. They are 14-6 this season and have beaten both Oklahoma City and Boston on the road in two of their last three games. Now they head to Washington to face the banged-up Wizards who are playing without John Wall. Bradley Beal is also dealing with an injury, though he is expected to play. It’s no surprise that without Wall the Wizards have gone just 2-5 in their last 7 games overall. The Pistons are 8-1 ATS when revenging a loss this season. Detroit is 6-0 ATS in its last 6 vs. a team with a winning record. The Pistons are 8-2 ATS in their last 10 road games. Take Detroit.

Play on: Oregon -7½ -110 at BMaker

Free pick on Oregon -
I like the value here with the Ducks laying what I feel is a short number at home against Boise State. There's no denying that this year's Oregon team is not as good as the one that made the Final Four last year, but this is still a talented enough team that can get back to the Big Dance. Head coach dana Altman will get the best out of this team and while he lost a lot, he also brought in a ton of talent to help fill the voids.
The lone returning starter is sophomore Payton Pritchard and he's shown flashes early of being a guy who can lead this team. He's averaging nearly 15 ppg with 4.1 rpg, 5.3 apg and 1.3 spg. They are also getting big contributions from New Mexico grad transfer Elijah Brown, as well as Georgetown transfer Paul White and true freshman Victory Bailey Jr.
Boise State's a good team, but they also list by 11 to a rebuilding Iowa State team on a neutral court. I just think the Broncos are outmatched here and it's asking a little too much of Boise State to keep this competitive in Eugene, where the Ducks are 10-2 over the last 3 seasons as a home favorite of 6.5 to 12 points. Take Oregon!
