4 Unit Play. Take #235 So Mississippi +16.5 over Florida St (1:30p.m., Wednesday December 27 ESPN - Independence Bowl)

So the Florida St Seminoles needed to reschedule a game just to get bowl eligible this year and lets throw in that FSU are also playing with a new coaching staff. Southern Miss will keep this game close on their defense and the Golden Eagles played really good 'D' against another SEC opponent Tennessee earlier in the season. Florida St does win this game but covering this monster number will be difficult. Florida St is 2-6 ATS when playing on a neutral site and the Golden Eagles are 4-1 ATS when playing a non-conference opponent.


3 Unit Play. Take #237 Boston College +3 over Iowa (5:15p.m., Wednesday December 27 ESPN - Pinstripe Bowl)

New Yankee Stadium will be hosting the New Era Pinstripe Bowl and I see the Boston College Eagles taking this bowl game. Boston College comes to the Bronx red-hot winning 5 out 6 and their defense has held their opponents to under 16 points in 5-straight games. Iowa won their last game 56-14 on the road against Nebraska but before that 'W' they dropped back-to-back games to Purdue at home and Wisconsin on the road. Both teams have great defensives but at the end of the day I see the BC Eagles making the key stops and getting the outright bowl victory. Iowa is 1-4 ATS in their last 5 bowl games and the BC Eagles are 8-0-1 ATS in their last 9 games and the 8-3-1 ATS against non-conference opponents.


4 Unit Play. Take #239 Missouri -2 over Texas (9:00p.m., Wednesday December 27 ESPN - Texas Bowl)

Former conference rivals go head-to-head at NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas and this one should be a close battle. One of the main reasons why we like the Mizzou Tigers in this bowl game is that the Texas defense will be missing some keys guys in the secondary. Texas split their last 4 games and their last game the lost to Texas Tech at home 27-23 while the Mizzou Tigers land at the Texas Bowl winners of 6-straight and in those 6 wins averaged 51.3ppg. If the Longhorns defense can't stop the offense of the Tigers this game could get ugly for the home state team and I see the Tigers running the ball early then throwing the ball all over the place in the second half. Texas is 2-5 ATS against SEC opponents and the Mizzou Tigers are 7-1 ATS in their last 8 games.


7 Unit Play. Take #276 Arizona -3 over Purdue (8:30p.m., Wednesday December 27 FOX - Foster Farm Bowl)

Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California gets to see two teams that probably didn't think they would be bowling at the beginning of the college football season. This bowl play is all on the QB play of the Arizona Wildcats and I believe sophomore QB Khalil Tate will be the big difference Wednesday night in Northern Cal. Purdue comes to Northern Cal winners of 3 out 4 while the Wildcats dropped 3 out of 4 but I'm sorry Boilermakers but Arizona had to play on the road against Arizona St, Oregon, and USC. Purdue at times had trouble scoring points scoring less then 25 points in 6 games and we all know that Rich Rodriguez will have the Arizona Wildcats offense ready and if this becomes a shootout then I see Arizona winning big. Purdue is 1-5 ATS in their last 6 bowl games and the Boilermakers are 9-19-2 ATS following a ATS win.

Missouri is overrated and Texas' Tom Herman is one of the great underdog coaches. The Tigers haven't beaten a good team all season. All of their SEC victories were against sub .500 teams. Texas has a much better defense than Missouri and I like Herman far more than Tigers coach Barry Odom. If you go back to when he was Ohio State's offensive coordinator and go through when he was the head man at Houston and now at Texas, Herman is an astounding 15-1 ATS (94%) as an underdog. The Longhorns rank sixth in the nation in run defense. They held five opponents to 14 points or less. Texas' defense will be able to handle Missouri's spread attack having faced multiple spread offenses this season along with great quarterbacks Sam Darnold, Baker Mayfield and Mason Rudolph. Texas went 3-0 ATS against those quarterbacks holding USC to 24 points in regulation, Oklahoma to under 30 points and Oklahoma State to 10 points in regulation, which was 36 points under the Cowboys' season average. The Longhorns have their quarterbacks healthy and are facing an inferior defensive team.

The Celtics are the much better team and have a huge coaching edge with Brad Stevens against Hornets interim coach Stephen Silas. Charlotte is 4-8 in its last 12 games. The Hornets really miss big man Cody Zeller, who is out following knee surgery. Charlotte is 2-6 SU and ATS in its last eight home contests. The Celtics are coming off a home loss to the Wizards on Christmas Day and host the Rockets Thursday. So they are in real danger of being saddled with a three-game losing streak if they lose this matchup. Boston has dominated this series under Stevens winning nine of the past 10 times, including the last five.


NY Knicks +1.5 (-110)

I understand the Bulls are far removed from the 3-20 team that opened the season. I also understand the Knicks are not a good road team, just 2-10. Still, I'm not buying the Bulls opening a favorite in this matchup. The Bulls carry a high fatigue rating. This marks their fifth game in eight days and second in two nights following a highly satisfying road victory against the Bucks last night. Chicago has lost five of six times this season when playing without rest, losing by an average of nearly 13 points per game. The Knicks play five of their next six games on the road, including facing the Spurs in San Antonio on Thursday. New York is coming off a Christmas Day home loss to the 76ers and will be placing a lot of emphasis on winning this game, while Chicago is fat and happy. This also is a big revenge spot for the Knicks. They lost 104-102 to the Bulls at United Center on Dec. 9. The Bulls were blistering hot in that game making 51.2 percent of their shots from the floor. Chicago also went to the free throw line 23 times to just nine times for the Knicks.

Missouri is going to want to destroy Texas. Missouri has an offense that is as elite as it comes and with their offensive coordinator getting so much buzz, with the fact that many in Missouri want to work for the Texas program, the fact that Texas is going to run into a Mizzou team that ran through the SEC to close out the year with an elite offense with the desire to destroy opponents as they face a very young Texas DB backfield, this sets up horribly for Texas. This is a good public fade, Missouri is a team that wants to deliver a huge win for the SEC, the Tigers are now 7th in the nation in offense, did not play well against Arkansas in particular winning 48-45 as a 10 point favorite, have put up 40+ games in 5 straight games and facing a Texas team that is outside the top 100 in pass defense. There are some weak spots in Texas's pass defense and Missouri, who has played Georgia at Georgia will not be intimidated by any stretch of the imagination and will be on for the rout here as they likely get it done by double-digits.

2-Unit Play. Take #723 Eastern Michigan (+12.5) over Syracuse (7 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 27 (http://www.customcappers.com/forum/x-apple-data-detectors://1))

Eastern Michigan can put up points. That's their lone skill. They don't defend. And other than one or two guys they don't rebound. But they can score. EMU has three guys averaging at least 17 points per game and I think they will put up some points against the Orange here tonight. I'm not sure what Syracuse's interest level in this game is going to be during the holiday break. They are coming off an outright loss to St. Bonaventure and an unimpressive win over Buffalo. Throw in some up and down efforts against Georgetown and Connecticut and just a 14-point win over Colgate and I don't trust this team laying double-digits. Syracuse will win. But I think the Eagles have enough to keep it close.


5-Unit Play. Take #727 Xavier (-2.5) over Marquette (8:30 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 27 (http://www.customcappers.com/forum/x-apple-data-detectors://3))

I do not think that Marquette is any good. I know they've won four straight, including a blowout win over Wisconsin. But this team has not impressed me with their play. They don't play defense and Andrew Rowsey is simply not good enough to carry a team to anywhere but a mid-conference finish. Xavier is legit as hell. This team is Final Four good. And they've proven it by going 17-4 ATS in their last 21 games and 9-2 ATS in their last 11 road games. J.P. Macura is a money player and Trevon Bluiett is a true go-to guy. Xavier is much better defensively and they can punish the Golden Eagles on the interior. The X-Men have lost once, and that was to a very good Arizona State team. They have blowout wins over Baylor and Cincinnati, two tournament-caliber teams, and true road wins over Wisconsin and Northern Iowa show that they can win anywhere. Look, I just think Xavier is the better team in this one. And I like their size, experience and resume more than the Golden Eagles. This is a tough place to get a win. But Xavier is a tough team.


4-Unit Play. Take #733 San Diego State (-3) over Wyoming (9 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 27 (http://www.customcappers.com/forum/x-apple-data-detectors://5))

I think that San Diego State's win over Gonzaga is going to propel them into Mountain West play. This is a team that should be better than they have been. They have nice wins over Gonzaga and Georgia, but they also have outright losses to Cal and Washington State as double-digit favorites. So you never know what you're going to get. But Wyoming hasn't been impressive at all, even at home. They have been floored by South Carolina (by 16) and Cincinnati (by 25), the two best teams they've faced. And losses to Northern Colorado and Denver, as well as OT wins over Drake and Eastern Washington, are huge red flags. These guys aren't good. And if good SDSU shows up this one will be a blowout. If not, the Aztecs lose outright. I'm betting the former.


1-Unit Play. Take #735 San Jose State (+12) over Utah State (9 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 27 (http://www.customcappers.com/forum/x-apple-data-detectors://6))

San Jose State stinks. But Utah State really isn't much better. And this number is a little thick for them. Utah State is really banged up. They are down two starters from last year that they thought they would have back and three other guys are either questionable to play tonight or out until January. So this team isn't that good and they aren't 100 percent. SJSU has done a lot of losing this year. But they really haven't gotten blown out that much. I think they can hang around here.


3-Unit Play. Take #738 Boise State (-11) over Colorado State (9:30 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 27 (http://www.customcappers.com/forum/x-apple-data-detectors://8))

I don't love this Boise State team. But they are excellent at home and capable of unleashing the fury. This Colorado State team is ripe for a blowout loss because they are a mess. They've played five teams currently rated in the Top 100. Their average loss in those games is by 20 points per. And just one of those losses, at Missouri State, was by fewer than 12 points (they lost by 10). Boise is bigger, they are more experienced, they shoot the ball better, and their home court edge plays right into Colorado's weakness on the road. I'll play for a blowout.


7-Unit Play. Take #739 Nevada (-2) over Fresno State (10 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 27 (http://www.customcappers.com/forum/x-apple-data-detectors://9))

Fresno State hasn't played anyone. And they haven't beaten anyone. So while they have some nice numbers, the reality is that they haven't proven that they can do what Nevada can do. The Wolfpack have been an outstanding mid-major team through the season's first two months. They've been wrecking people. And I think that will translate into league play. Wins over Rhode Island and Davidson stand out and their tight losses to Texas Tech and TCU show that they can play at a high level. Again, Fresno hasn't shown that. This number is short and we'll take a shot.

Take Purdue ATS as my 6-Unit CFB Smash for Wednesday night.

This pick falls into one of my top CFB systems and the Boilermakers are the superior team defensively here. The Boilermakers have allowed just 17.8 ppg on the road this season while the Wildcats have allowed an average of 40.2 ppg on the road this season. Purdue is 4-0 ATS in their last 4 non-conference games and 8-2 ATS in their last 10 games after putting up more than 450 total yards in their previous game. The Wildcats are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 neutral site games and just 1-5 ATS in their last 6 bowl games. The Wildcats are also just 8-18 ATS in their last 26 games overall and just 2-5-1 ATS in their last 8 games against a Big Ten opponent. Purdue's defense will slow down this Wildcats offense and Purdue has played much tougher opponents this season than the Wildcats. Play Purdue ATS.

2-Unit Play. Take #707 Brooklyn (+10.5) over New Orleans (8 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 27)

We really like the Nets in this spot. This is one of those games where a big underdog grabs an outright win. Yes, the Pelicans are a tough team with their two dominant big men, but they struggle to defend teams that can score the basketball. The Nets by no means are a great team but they can put the ball in the basket, ninth in the NBA at just over 107 points per game. The weather at Yankee Stadium is typical December conditions on the East Coast with a kickoff in the mid-20's but dry. The dry conditions assist the Boston College passing attack versus a good Iowa run defense.
There isn't a lot of analysis that would breakdown advantages vs. disadvantages for either side in this contest. Both schools have had big win(s) in 2017. BC taking down the likes of Louisville, Virginia, Florida State and closing with an easy win in New York against the Orange.

The Hawkeyes haven't been the same since putting a rout on the Ohio State Buckeyes. These two schools, have for the most part, gone in opposite directions with team performance over the course of the last month of the regular season slate.

Head coach Steve Addazzio’s Eagles and their backers took advantage of a soft betting market and scored big with wins and covers across the last two months of the season.

BC was crushed early in the year, Week 3 and 4, with losses against Notre Dame and Clemson, allowing 900 rushing yards in total. But the two aforementioned clubs were both considered Final Four worthy with Clemson actually earning the top seed in this year's CFP.

The Hawkeyes will not attempt to be something they are not. They will run the football with Akrum Wadley,

The Eagles are much more balanced than that of Ferentz led Iowa. They sport the legs of tailback A.J. Dillon.

The Eagles, however, are much more capable of keeping opposing defenses honest and that is the key to tonight's win at Yankee Stadium. The ACC is a league that more resembles the Big 12, geared toward speed.

The Big 10 in contrary with old school smash mouth football.

With the weather being dry tonight in New York the advantage goes to the team that should be the favorite in this game, the BC Eagles.

Iowa has not been good in bowl game under Coach F the last half decade (0-5) and in truth the Hawkeyes don’t deserve the favorite’s role in this event. They are uber-restricted to being unpredictable and are limited at the skill positions.

The crowd in this contest will be pro-Eagles and that makes a difference in a game that means much more to the BC squad than that of Iowa

I was on Denver on consecutive nights at Portland and at Golden State and the Nuggets won both teams handily, beating the Blazers by 17 points and besting the Warriors by 15 points the next night. I played on Denver because backup PG Emmanuel Mudiay was injured and I pass on playing Denver last night against the Jazz because Mudiay was due back and I thought he’d take his spot as the #2 point guard back. Mudiay didn’t play until less than 2 minutes remained in the game with the the Nuggets having a huge lead in what would be a 24 point win. If Mudiay is out of the rotation, which it appears he is, then I’m on the Nuggets.

Mudiay is a terrible player who had a plus-minus of -133 points last season on a team that was +42 points overall (so, +175 without him on the court) and he’s been even worse this season. The Nuggets now have a total scoring margin of +57 points but they’ve been outscored by 140 points in 613 minutes with Mudiay on the floor (-11.0 points per 48 minutes) while outscoring opponents by 197 points in 1029 minutes (+9.2 points per 48) when Mudiay is sitting on the bench. I don’t think that Denver is 9.2 points better than an average team but 1029 minutes is a pretty big sample size (21 games) and I do rate the Nuggets at 5 points better than an average team with Mudiay out and star Nikola Jokic back in the lineup. I like Minnesota’s current rotation but I’d favor the Timberwolves by only 2 points in this game even after accounting for their rest advantage. I’ll take Denver in a 2-Star Best Bet at +5 points or more.
