ZAR'S STAR - This gelding is back in a race very quick. This is a great angle - Sprinters that come back in less than 10 days after a race. A good sign of a sharp and ready racehorse. The jockey and trainer combination have a positive ROI when they join forces. This gelding likes to be near the lead. Today's event is a shorter trip and should enhance his chances to win. DUDE GREELEY - You'll be generating profits right and left by turning your cash onto this jock/trainer combination. Ran a lackluster race at Fair Grounds last out. Racing without the off-track conditions puts this gelding at the top of my list of contenders.

COTTON UP - This gelding hasn't had any strong efforts in short distance contests in the last two months. Finished fourth in his most recent race with a disappointing fig. When I look at today's Equibase class figure, it would take an improved performance to win after that in this bunch. GOING COUNTRY - If you keep playing these sort of 'bridesmaid' types, you're going to be dissatisfied frequently. When any horse improves so much on a track listed as good, I have to be concerned about him next out. LUCAS HENRY G - Hard to play any racer to turn things around if there is no reward to taking the shot. Not likely for this one to do much running with no recent success in a sprint race. Don't think this runner will do much running in today's event. That last speed figure was mediocre when compared with today's class rating.

My pick in this race is MOURINHO. Baffert has one of the most favorable winning percentages in this field with entries running at this distance and surface. This colt must be given a chance just off the earnings per start in dirt route events alone. Should land on the board without a hitch. MY BOY JACK - Must be given consideration given the class of races run lately. Desormeaux has this colt racing well and is a strong selection based on the formidable speed figures put up in route races recently. SEVEN TRUMPETS - Like the finish positions in the last few races.

RUBY BLEU - Multiple wins in this horse's life, all at Parx Racing. Could add another win in this field. When Sanchez and Taylor team up on equines the return on investment has been fantastic at +25. You have to be keen on that last race speed figure, 95, which is the best latest race speed fig of this field. Look at this pattern of improvement. 89/93/95 are the last 3 Equibase speed figs. THESE BLUES - When this jockey and trainer combine forces you have to take a look. Castillo and Castillo have been fabulous together. I like when a thoroughbred wins after shipping in from elsewhere. It shows that they really like the track here. I'll take this gelding to win again. DENNIS' DIAMOND - This horse could be tough this time, especially since Caballero rode last out and now should be plenty familiar with this one. This gelding is in nice form, having run a good race on Jan 29th, finishing second.

NCAAB Game of the Day: Oklahoma at Kansas betting preview and odds

Trae Young snapped a streak of 20 consecutive missed 3-pointers on Saturday and is averaging 23.6 points per game during the Sooners' current five-game losing skid.

No. 23 Oklahoma Sooners at No. 13 Kansas Jayhawks (-8.5, 166.5)

Before focusing on a Big 12 first-place showdown with Texas Tech next weekend, 13th-ranked Kansas must take care of business Monday when slumping No. 23 Oklahoma and Trae Young come calling. The Jayhawks escaped at home against West Virginia on Saturday and drew even atop the conference standings when Baylor knocked off the Red Raiders later that night.

Kansas closed out West Virginia with a 19-3 run as Udoka Azubuike scored 21 points and Devonte' Graham contributed 15 points while the defense stepped to the challenge as the Jayhawks put themselves in a position to challenge for a 14th consecutive regular-season championship. "It keeps us in a position to play for something," Kansas coach Bill Self told reporters afterward. "It was big for our guys' confidence, probably." The Sooners dropped their fifth straight game Saturday, 76-66 to Texas, shooting a season-low 30.8 percent with Young continuing to struggle. The 6-2 guard scored 26 points but shot 7-of-21 from the field and is 18-for-58 over his last three games, including 4-of-27 from the arc.

ABOUT KANSAS (21-6 SU, 13-12-1 ATS, 11-15 O/U): Azubuike (14.1 points, 7.0 rebounds) made 7-of-8 shots from the field against West Virginia to lift his shooting percentage to 76.9, and the 7-foot sophomore sank 7-of-10 from the free-throw line to raise his season percentage to 44.7. Azubuike is shooting 78 percent from the field in conference play and 86 percent over his last six games. Lagerald Vick (12.8 points) has scored 29 points in his last two games after after reaching double figures in four of his previous 12 contests.

Armed for Vengeance?

The New York Islanders appear to have figured out this whole goal prevention thing - and they'll look to put their new skill on display Thursday night in the second of three meetings this season with the Toronto Maple Leafs. The visiting Islanders have allowed the most goals in the NHL by a wide margin, but are coming off back-to-back 3-0 shutout victories over the New York Rangers and Carolina Hurricanes. The Isles will be looking to rebound from having been shut out themselves, dropping a 5-0 decision to the Maple Leafs in their first meeting of the season back on Jan. 31.

* The St. Louis Blues are reportedly in serious talks with Ottawa about acquiring Mike Hoffman and Derick Brassard from the Senators. The Blues enter the week in a battle with Dallas for third place in the Central, and are +1,800 to win the Cup.

* The Calgary Flames have locked up a key part of their forward corps, signing winger Mikael Backlund to a six-year extension worth an average of $5.35 million per season. The Flames are 18-5-2 SU when Backlund records a point this season.

Injury Updates

* The Colorado Avalanche welcomed leading scorer Nathan MacKinnon back to the lineup Sunday after he had missed the previous eight games with an upper-body injury. The Avalanche struggled in his absence, going 4-4-0 SU and 4-4 O/U.

* The Florida Panthers also welcomed back a familiar face, as Roberto Luongo returned to the crease after a 27-game absence due to a lower-body injury. The Panthers are 7-7-2 SU in Luongo's appearances following Saturday's 6-3 win over Calgary.

* There could be real problems in goal for the Philadelphia Flyers after Michal Neuvirth left Sunday's game against the Rangers with a lower-body injury. The Flyers are already without No. 1 option Brian Elliott, who is out several weeks with a core muscle injury.

Stanley Cup Futures

* It's a two-team battle for the best Stanley Cup odds among Canadian franchises. The Maple Leafs continue to lead the way at +1,000 on Bet365, with the Winnipeg Jets a close second at +1,100 entering the week. Calgary is third at +2,800.

* The Penguins' recent hot streak has them skyrocketing up the odds list, now installed at +1,100 to win their third consecutive title. Pittsburgh is vying to become the first team since the New York Islanders in the early 80s to win three straight Stanley Cups.

Over/Under Trends

* The Metropolitan Division has been a dream for over bettors - at least when it comes to the top teams. Washington, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, New Jersey and the Islanders all have at least 31 overs as of Sunday afternoon.

My free pick is on the Wisconsin Badgers, laying about a touchdown to Minnesota.

Wisconsin has won two of its last three games after snapping a five-game winless streak, including last Thursday's home win over Purdue, 57-53. The well-rested Badgers are playing their third straight home game, and finish the regular season with four out of their last five in Madison.

I look toward Ethan Happ, who leads the Badgers in four of five major stat categories, including 18.3 points per game, which ranks third in the conference. Along with Brad Davison, who chips in 11.5 ppg., I don't see the Gophers overcoming the Badgers.

This is an important game, as Wisconsin needs to win the games it is 'supposed' to win from here on out, if it wants to secure a decent seed in the Big Ten tournament.

Since I love only one basketball game tonight, my free winner is on the ice.

And I love the Washington Capitals to get it done over the Buffalo Sabres. With the line touching -150 at some places, albeit I'm releasing it at -145, I want you wary of the price you're paying. If this game is too rich for you, play the puck line. I think the Caps could win big. But I don't mind laying -145, either.

In the standings, the Arizona Coyotes are the worst team in hockey. But in my eyes, what I've seen, there may not be a worse team than the Buffalo Sabres.

And now they host the defending President's Cup Trophy winners, a Capitals team that may not catch Tampa Bay or Vegas for this year's Prez Cup, but is still equally dangerous.

Washington will be out to avenge a loss to the struggling Chicago Blackhawks, and for revenge after losing the first game against Buffalo, 3-1 at KeyBank Arena on Nov. 7.

The Capitals are on a 7-3-0 run against Buffalo, so confidence should run high for the road team.

I think we're going to see Washington strike quick, and often. The Caps have recorded 53 goals in the first period, tied for the eighth-most in the NHL through games played Feb. 17. And make note, Washington is 19-0-1 when leading after one period and 19-3-3 when scoring the first goal of the game.

Caps come out swinging, and take down the lowly Sabres.

I like the value here with the Fighting Irish laying a short-number at home against the Hurricanes. Notre Dame just went on the road and annihilated BC 84-67. The Irish shot 63.3% from the field and have now shot 49% or better from the field in 3 of their last 4 games (only exception at red-hot UNC). They are 3-1 in this stretch and I simply trust them a lot more at home than I do Miami on the road right now.
The Hurricanes have dropped 3 straight with the most recent being an upset loss at home to Syracuse as a 5-point favorite. This is a very young Miami team that is really missing the leadership and play-making ability of Bruce Brown. He's missed the last 6 games and while the Hurricanes won their first 3 without him, two of those were at home against bottom feeders Pitt and Wake Forest. While Notre Dame comes in shooting lights out, Miami has shot under 44% in all 3 losses during the skid.
Miami is just 1-8 ATS in their last 9 when playing for the 3rd time in an 8-day span, while Notre Dame is 10-1 ATS when playing only their 2nd game in the same time frame. The Hurricanes are also a mere 1-5 ATS in their last 6 vs a team with a winning record, while the Irish are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 home games vs a team with a winning home record. Take Notre Dame!

LA broke a three-game slide with a 4-2 win over Buffalo on Saturday, while Chicago snapped an eight-game skid with a 7-1 win over Washington at home on Saturday.
If recent history is any precedence though then the Kings have to be loving their chances tonight as they’ve already taken the one other lone meeting between the clubs, 3-1 on December 3rd.
LA averages 2.8 GPG and it concedes 2.5. Overall the Kings have been dominant on the penalty kill this season, ranked third overall in staving off 83.4 percent of opposing chances. John Quick made 33 saves in the most recent victory over the Sabres.
Chicago averages and concedes 2.9 GPG. The Blackhawks looked pretty good against the Capitals, but I’ll obviously caution in reading too much into one decent performance as it was Chicago’s first win in over a month.
Additionally I’ll point out that the Kings are 4-1 in their last five against teams with losing records, while the Blackhawks are just 1-9 in their last ten when playing on one days rest.
LA is still in the thick of a playoff berth, while Chicago’s inconsistent season can’t come to an end soon enough for Blackhawks’ fans.
I give LA the nod in net and that’s going to be more than enough to tip the scales in its favor in my opinion. Consider a second look at the visitors in this matchup.

Now the Senators take to the road where they have lost the past three times all by three goals. Ottawa ranks 26th in scoring and gives up the third-most goals. The Senators have especially weak special teams. Ottawa ranks among the bottom-four in power play goals and penalty killing. Their poor special teams are just the antidote for the Predators to break out of their mini losing streak. I just think we are getting too much value here with the Gophers here. I know Minnesota comes in having lost 8 straight and are dealing with some injuries, but Wisconsin isn't deserving of being this big of a favorite. Keep in mind they were just a 3.5-point home favorite against Nebraska and a 4.5-point home favorite against Illinois.
The biggest key here for me is I just don't trust the Badgers in this spot. Wisconsin is coming off a shocking 57-53 home win over Purdue as a 11-point dog. The Badgers really invested a lot into that game and now are in a prime spot for a letdown. Keep in mind this is a young team and aren't use to this role as the overwhelming favorite.

LA broke a three-game skid with a 4-2 win at Buffalo on Saturday, while Chicago snapped an eight-game slide with a resounding 7-1 victory over Washington. LA averages 2.8 GPG and it allows 2.5. Chicago averages 2.9 GPG and it allows 2.9 as well.
