#1 CHERCHAZ LA FEMME (ML=7/2)
#6 CHARISMATIC MISS (ML=6/1)

CHERCHAZ LA FEMME - Rodriguez was aboard this mare last time out and was impressed enough to take the animal right back. Rodriguez and Rawlings perform well when they join forces. It's hard to beat a +113 return on investment for a jockey and trainer. CHARISMATIC MISS - It looks like Batista had to learn about this filly on Mar 3rd when riding her for the first time. Back on board again today. Have to make this filly a serious competitor; she comes off a sharp contest on Mar 3rd. The improved Equibase speed figures over the last three races is solid. Greaves drops her in this clash in shape and ready to win.

Vulnerable Contenders: #4 MIDNIGHT COWGIRL (ML=8/5), #3 GEMINI DREAM (ML=3/1), #5 ISABELLA ROCKS (ML=8/1),

MIDNIGHT COWGIRL - You should normally gamble against probable favorites that haven't raced or show no activity in the morning over the last 3 weeks. Tough to put your dough on this oft beaten favorite. Not much value. GEMINI DREAM - The finish of fifth in the last affair shows me that this horse may be losing physical conditioning. You always figure that this equine has a shot to win, but she comes up short frequently.

Have to go with #1 CHERCHAZ LA FEMME on the win end if we get at least 3/2 odds

# 3 SIMMARDYER'S BOY 7/2

# 7 DOUBLE BALLEW 8/1

CINCINNATI is the top bet in this race. Has recorded formidable speed figures in dirt route races in the past. With a solid jockey who has won at a very strong 21 percent rate over the last 30 days. This has to be one of the top selections. Could beat this field given the 72 speed figure garnered in his last outing. SIMMARDYER'S BOY - The average Equibase class figure of 55 makes this horse hard to beat. Is difficult not to look at based on Speed Figures which have been respectable - 55 avg - of late. DOUBLE BALLEW - Garnered a solid speed rating last time out.

SWEETCHINAPRINCESS - Never really did much at all last out on Sep 9th. Hard to play in today's race. TEAM FREEDOM - This filly hasn't been showing me anything in the last couple of outings. Finished fifth in her most recent race with a pedestrian speed figure. When I look at today's class figure, it would take an improved performance to win after that in this group. KELLYANNE - I don't possess a good feeling about this vulnerable equine in this clash.

COOL EDDIE appears to be the wager in here especially at a such a nice price. MAN U - He has been running very well and the speed figs are among the strongest in this group. Has been running quite well lately and ought to be on the front end early on. SMART PIONEER - With a solid 57 average speed figure at the distance, seems well suited for today's race. Overall, has one of the top earnings per start in dirt route races in this field.

New York Knicks vs. Philadelphia 76ers Preview and Predictions 03-28-2018

27th March 2018 by Gracenote
The Philadelphia 76ers are the hottest team in the Eastern Conference as they try to lock up homecourt advantage in the first round of the playoffs. The surging Sixers will try to push their winning streak to eight straight when they host the lowly New York Knicks on Wednesday.

Philadelphia is occupying the No. 4 spot in the East but enters play on Tuesday one game behind the third-place Cleveland Cavaliers after dominating the Denver Nuggets in a 123-104 victory on Monday. The 76ers are 25-11 at home and will play seven of their last nine games against teams with losing records, beginning with the Knicks. New York is 21 games under .500 but is playing well on its road trip after stunning the Washington Wizards in a 101-97 win on Sunday and falling 137-128 in overtime at Charlotte on Monday. The Knicks are spending the rest of the season giving players a chance to earn a spot in the team's future, and guard Trey Burke is making the most of his opportunity.

TV: 7 p.m. ET, MSG (New York), NBCS Philadelphia

ABOUT THE KNICKS (27-48): Burke scored a team-high 19 points in the win at Charlotte and exploded on Monday for a career-high 42 points on 19-of-31 shooting and 12 assists. "He's been playing great," New York coach Jeff Hornacek told reporters. "He's a hard guy to guard one-on-one. He seems to be able to get a shot off any time he wants. He played a great game." Burke, a 25-year-old former lottery pick who was plucked out of the G League by the Knicks in January, is averaging 23 points on 57.4 percent shooting over the past four games.

ABOUT THE 76ERS (43-30): Philadelphia is flush with young talent and got another promising youngster back in the lineup on Monday when No. 1 overall pick Markelle Fultz (shoulder) returned from a five-month absence. Fultz collected 10 points and eight assists in 14 minutes off the bench and is trying to get up to speed in time to be a factor off the bench in the postseason. "The way he was embraced by his teammates just reinforces what I think of our group and how close they really are," 76ers coach Brett Brown told reporters of his team's reaction to Fultz's return. "And then he came out and he played. He showed signs of why he was the first player chosen."

BUZZER BEATERS

1. Knicks C Enes Kanter recorded a double-double in each of the last five games.

2. 76ers SG Marco Belinelli is averaging 15.8 points on 60.4 percent shooting over the last four games.

3. Philadelphia took each of the first three meetings this season, including a 108-92 home win on Feb. 12.

PREDICTION: 76ers 120, Knicks 104

Brooklyn Nets vs. Orlando Magic Preview and Predictions 03-28-2018

27th March 2018 by Gracenote
The Brooklyn Nets are playing the best teams in the Eastern Conference tough, they just can't seem to figure out how to hold onto a third-quarter lead. The Nets will try to snap a three-game slide when they visit the Orlando Magic on Wednesday.

Brooklyn squandered a 23-point, second-half lead in a loss to the Charlotte Hornets last Wednesday, was up 14 at East-leading Toronto before falling on Friday and held a nine-point edge at home over Cleveland on Sunday before falling 121-114. "We had three turnovers down the stretch that kind of changed the game," Nets small forward DeMarre Carroll told reporters after the latest setback. "Good teams don't get loose toward the end of the game. We've got to learn that. We've got a young group, but we can't keep preaching the same thing." The Magic are lottery-bound but can draw even at 3-3 on a seven-game homestand with a win Wednesday after snapping a three-game slide by edging Phoenix 105-99 on Saturday. Orlando power forward Aaron Gordon recorded his second consecutive double-double in the win with 29 points on 10-of-18 shooting and 11 rebounds.

TV: 7 p.m. ET, YES (Brooklyn), FS Florida (Orlando)

ABOUT THE NETS (23-51): Small forward Joe Harris is taking advantage of an opportunity at regular minutes with Brooklyn far out of the playoff chase and scored a career-high 30 points on 11-of-14 shooting, including 6-of-7 from 3-point range, in 27 minutes off the bench on Sunday. "We were moving the ball well, and I was able to get room-and-rhythm looks right off the git-go, knocked down my first couple and it just felt good after that," Harris told reporters. Harris is averaging 12.8 points on 61.5 percent shooting over the last five games.

ABOUT THE MAGIC (22-51): The rest of the season is just about development for the Magic, and Gordon taking some momentum into the offseason would be a plus. The 22-year-old has been limited to 50 games this season due to a series of injuries but showed off his all-around game while adding eight assists and three steals against Phoenix. "It's a mixture and a balance of scoring and passing," Gordon told reporters. "If I score, I draw attention from the defense. And once I draw attention, then I pass. Then, the defense tends to leave me (single-covered) when I'm passing and I can score more. It's a balance that I'm still working on as a young player, but my teammates are doing a great job of encouraging me."

BUZZER BEATERS

1. Magic SF Jonathon Simmons (wrist) is expected to miss his fourth consecutive game.

2. Brooklyn PG D'Angelo Russell went 4-of-7 from 3-point range on Sunday after going 3-of-19 in his previous three games.

3. The home team took the last seven in the series, with Orlando earning a 125-121 home win on Oct. 24.

PREDICTION: Nets 116, Magic 114

Cleveland Cavaliers vs. Charlotte Hornets Preview and Predictions 03-28-2018

28th March 2018 by Gracenote
The Cleveland Cavaliers' winning streak came to a crashing halt in Miami on Tuesday and they have little time to pick up the pieces before visiting the Charlotte Hornets on Wednesday. The Cavaliers had won five in a row while averaging 122.2 points before they shot 36.5 percent in an ugly 98-79 loss to the Heat, their lowest-scoring effort in exactly one year.

"We missed shots early, missed shots early and we allowed their pressure to take us out of some of the stuff we wanted to do," assistant coach Larry Drew - who continues to fill in for the ailing Tyronn Lue - told reporters. "When we got down it just became just too big of a deficit." Cleveland, which plays five of its final seven games at home after finishing up in Charlotte, is a half-game ahead of Philadelphia in the race for third place in the Eastern Conference. The Hornets are on the verge of being eliminated from playoff contention but refuse to go quietly into the offseason and have averaged 122.5 points during a four-game winning streak. Kemba Walker scored 11 of his 31 points in overtime as Charlotte got past the New York Knicks 137-128 on Monday, pulling the team to within one victory of matching its longest winning streak of the season.

TV: 7 p.m. ET, NBATV, FS Ohio (Cleveland), FS Southeast (Charlotte)

ABOUT THE CAVALIERS (44-30): Kevin Love managed one point in seven minutes before he was knocked from Tuesday's loss due to an elbow by Miami's Jordan Mickey, which loosened a tooth. Love also exhibited some concussion-like symptoms and will be re-evaluated in the morning before it is determined whether he will continue the trip to Charlotte. LeBron James was limited to 18 points - his lowest total since Feb. 23 - at Miami and he missed all four of his 3-point tries as Cleveland finished with a season-low four makes from beyond the arc in 26 attempts.

ABOUT THE HORNETS (34-41): Charlotte is six games out of a playoff spot with seven to play and the writing is on the wall, which frustrates someone like Walker, who is in his seventh season with the Hornets and has appeared in just 11 playoff games. "At this point, I want to win. I want to be in the playoffs," Walker told the Charlotte Observer. "I'm tired of not being in the playoffs. ... I hate watching them on TV. I've been there twice in seven years, and it's just not fun (watching)." The two-time All-Star is doing all he can to keep Charlotte's slim hopes alive and is averaging 31.3 points during the winning streak.

BUZZER BEATERS

1. Cavaliers C Tristan Thompson is averaging 11 rebounds in 16 minutes in three games since returning from an ankle injury.

2. Hornets C Dwight Howard has 2,037 career blocked shots, tied with Kevin Garnett for 17th on the NBA's all-time list.

3. Cleveland won each of the last eight meetings, including three straight at Charlotte.

PREDICTION: Cavaliers 108, Hornets 106

Atlanta Hawks vs. Minnesota Timberwolves Preview and Predictions 03-28-2018

27th March 2018 by Gracenote
The Minnesota Timberwolves are trying to lock up a spot in the Western Conference playoffs for the first time since 2004 but will need to stop losing to teams at the bottom of the standings. The Timberwolves will try to avoid a third overall loss and their second straight to a losing team when they host the East-worst Atlanta Hawks on Wednesday.

Minnesota is in the No. 8 spot in the West, and trying to hold off the Denver Nuggets and the Los Angeles Clippers, after dropping a 101-93 decision at home to the Memphis Grizzlies on Monday. "We have to have a collective will to bounce back (Wednesday)," Timberwolves coach Tom Thibodeau told reporters on Tuesday. "You just have to keep coming. When you fall short of something you want, you have to pick yourself up and keep going until we get it done. I believe we will get it done." Minnesota will play four of its last seven games against teams with losing records but also faces Denver twice and the Utah Jazz, who are just ahead in seventh place. The Hawks are playing the finale of a six-game road trip and dropped the last three, capped by a 118-99 setback at Houston on Sunday.

TV: 8 p.m. ET, FS Southeast (Atlanta), FS North (Minnesota)

ABOUT THE HAWKS (21-53): Atlanta did stun one West playoff contender with a 99-94 victory at Utah earlier in its trip but failed to turn the same trick in losses at Golden State and Houston. The Hawks are getting some solid individual performances and watched Taurean Prince work his way out of a shooting slump by scoring 28 points on 11-of-18 from the floor against the Rockets. Second-year point guard Isaiah Taylor added a career-high 26 points in 32 minutes on Sunday while starting in place of Dennis Schroder (ankle).

ABOUT THE TIMBERWOLVES (42-33): Minnesota is 6-7 in 13 games since All-Star swingman Jimmy Butler went down with a knee injury, but Monday's loss was particularly crushing "This is the worst loss," point guard Jeff Teague told the Minneapolis Star Tribune. "By far. This was a must-win for us. Every game down the stretch is a must-win. And against a team -- not taking anything from them -- they're not playing for anything right now." Teague scored 25 points in the loss but power forward Nemanja Bjelica, who is starting in place of Butler, went scoreless on 0-of-5 shooting.

BUZZER BEATERS

1. Schroder missed two of the last three games and was already ruled out for Wednesday.

2. Timberwolves SF Andrew Wiggins is 3-of-15 from 3-point range over the last three games.

3. Atlanta knocked off Minnesota at home 105-100 on Jan. 29.

PREDICTION: Timberwolves 115, Hawks 100

Portland Trail Blazers vs. Memphis Grizzlies Preview and Predictions 03-28-2018

28th March 2018 by Gracenote
The red-hot Portland Trail Blazers look to continue their winning ways against one of the worst teams in the NBA when they visit the Memphis Grizzlies on Wednesday. The Trail Blazers, who are third in the Western Conference standings, will be seeking their 16th victory in 18 games against a team that possesses the second-worst record in the league.

All-Star Damian Lillard poured in 41 points in Tuesday's 107-103 victory at New Orleans, but he will miss the game against Memphis due to the birth of his son. "You always hear about him with the great players, but I've seen him at a crazy different level," Trail Blazers swingman Evan Turner told reporters after Lillard's latest stellar performance. "In situations like this, in must-wins and things, he always steps up. It's unreal." Memphis is coming off a rare high note as it stunned Minnesota 101-93 on Monday for just its second victory in 25 games, but center Marc Gasol wasn't all that impressed. "I don't know how you can be happy with 19 or 20 wins," Gasol told reporters. "Now it's next game, this game is over. It's how you carry it on for the next home game against the Blazers and how you build on it. Because if you think it's that bad, this game doesn't mean anything."

TV: 8 p.m. ET, NBCS Northwest (Portland), FS Southeast (Memphis)

ABOUT THE TRAIL BLAZERS (46-28): Portland is seeking its eighth consecutive road victory and looking for CJ McCollum to bounce back from a dreadful performance against the Pelicans in which he scored seven points on 3-of-19 shooting. Jusuf Nurkic played well against New Orleans, recording 21 points and 10 rebounds while also standing out on the defensive end by matching his season best of four blocked shots. Not having Lillard will hurt as the three-time All-Star has scored 20 or more points in 19 straight games, the longest stretch by a Portland player since Clyde Drexler did it in 27 consecutive contests during the 1987-88 campaign.

ABOUT THE GRIZZLIES (20-54): Leading scorer Tyreke Evans (personal reasons) has missed the last two games, and Wayne Selden took advantage of the opportunity to play more by scoring 23 points on 9-of-14 shooting against the Timberwolves. The 20-point effort was just the third of the season for Selden, who has scored 16 or more in five of his last six games. "Our biggest thing is coming out and playing hard every night and competing," Selden told reporters after Monday's strong outing. "Playing unselfish, I think. If we do that every night, we have a good chance. It's just getting the little things, I feel like."

BUZZER BEATERS

1. Gasol averaged 17.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, 5.5 assists and three blocks as the Grizzlies split this season's first two meetings with the Trail Blazers.

2. Portland SF Maurice Harkless (left knee) was a late scratch against New Orleans, and the team announced he will undergo arthroscopic surgery on Wednesday.

3. The victory over Minnesota marked the first time Memphis has won in 22 games without Evans in the lineup this season.

PREDICTION: Trail Blazers 112, Grizzlies 105

Boston Celtics vs. Utah Jazz Preview and Predictions 03-28-2018

27th March 2018 by Gracenote
The Utah Jazz are in seventh place in the Western Conference and are winners of 11 of their last 13 after pulling away from the Golden State Warriors on Sunday. The Jazz will try to continue picking off injury-plagued teams in second place of their respective conferences when they host the Boston Celtics on Wednesday.

Utah will play five of its final eight games at home starting on Wednesday and is trying to move up in the standings while entering play on Tuesday 1 1/2 games behind the fourth-place Oklahoma City Thunder. The matchup with Boston lost some of its luster when Gordon Hayward, who left the Jazz to sign a max deal with the Celtics in free agency last summer, went down for the season with an ankle injury in the opening game, but Utah is having no trouble winning without its former franchise player. Hayward isn't the only major injury suffered by a key player for Boston, which is without All-Star point guard Kyrie Irving for the rest of the regular season after he underwent knee surgery late last week. The Celtics are trying to keep their sights on first place in the East despite losing Irving and are winners of their last four games to keep the first-place Toronto Raptors within shouting distance.

TV: 9:30 p.m. ET, ESPN, NBCS Boston, AT&T SportsNet Rocky Mountain (Utah)

ABOUT THE CELTICS (51-23): Utah's Donovan Mitchell is thought to be the main contender to Philadelphia's Ben Simmons in the Rookie of the Year race, but Boston's Jayson Tatum is enjoying a special rookie season as well. Tatum scored a team-high 23 points on 10-of-18 shooting in Monday's 102-94 win at Phoenix and is averaging 18.8 points on 56.9 percent shooting over the last five contests. Celtics point guard Terry Rozier is taking advantage of Irving's absence and is averaging 17.2 points in March, including a 33-point outburst in a win at Sacramento on Sunday.

ABOUT THE JAZZ (42-32): Mitchell scored at least 21 points in each of the last six games and is getting support on the inside from center Rudy Gobert. The 25-year-old Frenchman collected 17 points, 15 rebounds and four blocks in Sunday's win at Golden State and is averaging 15.6 points on 63.9 percent shooting and 11.7 rebounds over the last 27 games -- a stretch during which Utah is 23-4. That stretch began a few games after Gobert returned from a sprained PCL and bruised tibia suffered at Boston on Dec. 15.

BUZZER BEATERS

1. Jazz SF Jae Crowder scored in double figures in five of the last seven games.

2. Celtics PF Marcus Morris (ankle) left Monday's game and is day-to-day.

3. Utah earned a 107-95 win at Boston on Dec. 15 to snap a three-game losing streak in the series.

PREDICTION: Jazz 99, Celtics 95

Los Angeles Clippers vs. Phoenix Suns Preview and Predictions 03-28-2018

28th March 2018 by Gracenote
The Los Angeles Clippers look to finish off a four-game season sweep of Phoenix on Wednesday as well as defeat the host Suns for the eighth consecutive time in a contest pivotal for their postseason aspirations. Los Angeles trails the eighth-place Minnesota Timberwolves by 1 1/2 games in the battle for the final Western Conference playoff spot with eight games remaining.

The Clippers, who have won 13 of their past 20 road games, thrived at home Tuesday by notching a crucial 105-98 victory over the Milwaukee Bucks. The terrain is tough down the stretch with Los Angeles playing three teams it trails by 2 1/2 games or fewer in the West in New Orleans, San Antonio and Utah and another against Denver, which is a half-game behind the Clippers. Phoenix has struggled mightily all season and has dropped its last 12 games and 27 of the past 29. Standout shooting guard Devin Booker (hand) didn't practice Tuesday and will likely miss his sixth straight game.

TV: 10 p.m. ET, Prime Ticket (Los Angeles), FS Arizona (Phoenix)

ABOUT THE CLIPPERS (40-34): Guard Austin Rivers scored 10 of his 13 points in the fourth quarter Tuesday after being chewed out at the end of the third quarter by injured Patrick Beverley and assistant coach Sam Cassell. "I felt like the whole game I wasn't in the right spirit," Rivers said in a postgame television interview. "I wasn't in attack mode. I didn't want to let my teammates down. I would have been real frustrated if we had lost this game, knowing that I didn't give them anything. We need every win to get to the playoffs." Rivers' final-quarter splurge was timely with shooting guard Lou Williams struggling to 16 points on 5-of-16 shooting along with matching a season worst of seven turnovers.

ABOUT THE SUNS (19-56): Not only will Phoenix be without its leading scorer in Booker (24.9) but small forward TJ Warren (knee) is also an unlikely participant after he also missed Tuesday's practice. Warren ranks second on the club with a 19.6 average and that leaves rookie swingman Josh Jackson (12.4) as the team's most potent offensive player with the top two scorers out. Jackson has been up to the task by averaging 20.7 points over the past seven games, topped by a season-best 36-point outing against the Golden State Warriors on March 17.

BUZZER BEATERS

1. The Clippers have won 16 of the past 18 meetings.

2. Los Angeles PG Milos Teodosic (plantar fasciitis) departed the game against the Bucks and will undergo an MRI exam Wednesday.

3. Phoenix SG Troy Daniels is averaging 17.2 points and made 21 3-pointers during the five games Booker has missed.

PREDICTION: Clippers 122, Suns 107

Dallas Mavericks vs. Los Angeles Lakers Preview and Predictions 03-28-2018

28th March 2018 by Gracenote
The Los Angeles Lakers expect to have second-year forward Brandon Ingram back in the lineup when they host the Dallas Mavericks on Wednesday. Ingram has missed the past 12 games with a groin injury but he returned to practice Tuesday and was upgraded to questionable on the injury report.

The Lakers are 5-7 since Ingram went down March 1 in Miami after compiling a 16-8 mark over the previous 24 games. "Having him back is going to mean a lot for us," point guard Lonzo Ball said after Monday's 112-106 loss to the Detroit Pistons. "Make sure he's comfortable and after that we definitely can use him." Dallas halted a five-game slide by posting a 103-97 victory over the Sacramento Kings to improve a lackluster road record to 9-27. "We played loose out there, we had fun, we moved the ball and we got defensive stops," backup small forward Doug McDermott told reporters after contributing 15 points on 6-of-7 shooting.

TV: 10:30 p.m. ET, FS Southwest (Dallas), Spectrum Sports Net (Los Angeles)

ABOUT THE MAVERICKS (23-51): Longtime face of the franchise Dirk Nowitzki insisted once again Tuesday that he will return for a 21st season and then endured his third straight subpar performance. Nowitzki, who is battling tendinitis in his left knee, had five points on 2-of-9 shooting in 20 minutes against the Kings and is averaging 4.3 points on 6-of-24 shooting during the three-game stretch. The 12-time All-Star turns 40 in June and the Mavericks hold a team option on the two-year, $10 million contract he signed prior to this season.

ABOUT THE LAKERS (32-41): Ball has come two rebounds short of a triple-double in each of the past two games and coach Luke Walton was thrilled with the rookie's shooting when he went 7-of-8 from the field while recording 15 points and 11 assists against Detroit. "He was under control all game," Walton told reporters. "The ones he was hitting were good shots, which I think kind of shows how much he has worked on his game. They were shots he wasn't even shooting earlier in the year." Ball has back-to-back double-digit outings after averaging 6.2 points on porous 14-of-67 shooting over a six-game stretch.

BUZZER BEATERS

1. The Lakers are 2-1 against the Mavericks this season after losing the previous 14 meetings.

2. Dallas PF Dwight Powell (knee) is expected to play after sitting out Tuesday.

3. Los Angeles G Isaiah Thomas (hip) will miss his third consecutive contest.

PREDICTION: Lakers 120, Mavericks 112

Florida Panthers vs. Toronto Maple Leafs Preview and Predictions 03-28-2018

27th March 2018 by Gracenote
The surging Florida Panthers are in desperation mode as they attempt to overhaul New Jersey for the final wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference. Florida sits three points behind the Devils for eighth place with two games in hand as it resumes a four-game road trip at the Toronto Maple Leafs on Wednesday night.

The Panthers have earned points in 14 of 17 games (13-3-1) since a 1-0 setback at Toronto on Feb. 20 -- a loss they avenged with a 3-2 shootout victory seven days later. "I really haven't been paying much attention to what's going on with the Devils and those other teams, but obviously we know it's tight and you can't afford to lose at this point," forward Nick Bjugstad said after Monday's 3-0 win over the New York Islanders. Florida has lost its last four visits to Atlantic Division rival Toronto, which is all but locked into third place with six games remaining and staring at a first-round playoff matchup against either Boston or Tampa Bay. The Maple Leafs had their 13-game home winning streak snapped in Monday's 3-2 loss to Buffalo, but can establish a franchise single-season record when they go for their 46th victory.

TV: 7:30 p.m. ET, FS Florida, TVAS, Sportsnet (Toronto)

ABOUT THE PANTHERS (39-28-7): Coach Bob Boughner expects Roberto Luongo to return from a two-game injury absence Wednesday, but told the Sun-Sentinel of South Florida that "Lu's going through a bit of a tough time right now." If Luongo can't go, former Maple Leafs netminder James Reimer will look to continue his hot streak in which he has won five straight starts and posted two shutouts. Henrik Borgstrom, the team's 2016 first-round pick, could make his NHL debut after signing a three-year contract Monday.

ABOUT THE MAPLE LEAFS (45-24-7): Center Nazem Kadri reached 30 goals for the second consecutive season by scoring for the seventh time in his last 10 games in the loss to Buffalo. "His shot, we always joke around with him that it's not a hard one, but he can aim a puck very well, you see it in practice every day," said forward Mitch Marner. Auston Matthews missed the previous matchup against the Panthers, but he has a point in all three games since rejoining the lineup following a month-long absence.

OVERTIME

1. Panthers C Aleksander Barkov has 32 points in 26 games since Feb. 1, never going two straight games without a point.

2. Maple Leafs G Frederik Andersen is seeking a career-high 36th win.

3. Panthers F Evgenii Dadonov has six goals and 11 assists in 14 games this month.

PREDICTION: Maple Leafs 4, Panthers 3

New York Rangers vs. Washington Capitals Preview and Predictions 03-28-2018

27th March 2018 by Gracenote
The Washington Capitals are attempting to make it three consecutive Metropolitan titles in a row and thereby avoid a rugged first-round matchup between the second- and third-place teams in the division. The Capitals go for their fifth consecutive victory in the back end of a home-and-home versus the visiting New York Rangers on Wednesday night.

Washington wrapped up a perfect three-game road trip with a dominant performance at Madison Square Garden on Monday night, scoring four first-period goals and coasting to a 4-2 victory. "We've still got to keep going and keep getting points every night," said forward T.J. Oshie, who scored his fifth goal in seven games as the Capitals ran their point streak against New York to five games (4-0-1). Two-time reigning Presidents' Trophy-winning Washington owns a five -point lead over Pittsburgh with six games to play, four of which are at home. The Rangers have lost seven of of their last 10 overall (3-5-2) and face a closing stretch featuring five of their final six games away from home.

TV: 8 p.m. ET, NBC Sports Network

ABOUT THE RANGERS (33-35-8): Rookie netminder Alexandar Georgiev was chased from Monday's game after allowing three goals on six shots and was sent to Hartford of the American Hockey League on Tuesday. Henrik Lundqvist, who has been sidelined for the past three games due to an ailing back and neck, will return and looks to snap a four-game losing streak (0-3-1). Rookie Lias Andersson, 19, scored in Monday's loss to become the youngest player in team history to score in his NHL debut.

ABOUT THE CAPITALS (45-24-7): Goaltender Philipp Grubauer, who has supplanted Braden Holtby as the starter over the past five-plus weeks, suffered a "tweak" in Monday's game, prompting the recall of Pheonix Copley from Washington's AHL affiliate in Hershey. "I'm optimistic but ultra, ultra sensitive right now to the goalie situation," Capitals coach Barry Trotz said. Alex Ovechkin scored his league-high 45th goal Monday to join Wayne Gretzky and Mike Bossy as the only players with nine 45-goal seasons.

OVERTIME

1. Capitals C Nicklas Backstrom has six assists in his last two games to give him 14 points in his last nine contests.

2. Rangers coach Alain Vigneault needs one win to tie Ron Wilson (648) for 10th place on the all-time list.

3. Holtby, who has allowed fewer than three goals once in his last 10 starts, will be in net Wednesday.

PREDICTION: Capitals 5, Rangers 4

Arizona Coyotes vs. Vegas Golden Knights Preview and Predictions 03-28-2018

27th March 2018 by Gracenote
The inaugural season of the Vegas Golden Knights has been an undeniable success on multiple levels, with coach Gerard Gallant's charges likely receiving little in the way of rebuttal from the Arizona Coyotes. The playoff-bound Golden Knights aim to complete a five-game season sweep of the visiting Coyotes on Wednesday when the Pacific Division rivals reconvene at T-Mobile Arena.

"I think it's blown by pretty fast actually. It's been a fun ride. Obviously winning helps it. I mean, it's been great since day one," said forward William Karlsson (team-best 40 goals), who joined Jonathan Marchessault by scoring a goal and setting up two others in Monday's 4-1 win over Colorado. Karlsson has recorded 18 points (10 goals, eight assists) in his past 17 contests and Marchessault has three goals and four assists during his five-game point streak for Pacific Division-leading Vegas, which is 3-0-2 in its last five outings. Although Arizona will miss the playoffs for the sixth straight season, the team improved to 14-7-2 in its last 23 contests and 2-2-0 on its six-game road trip with Monday's 4-1 triumph over Tampa Bay. "I think we're trying to treat every game like a playoff game and we kind of get up for that," said Clayton Keller, who had an assist to extend his point streak to nine games (five goals, eight assists) before adding his franchise-best 23rd goal by a rookie.

TV: 10 p.m. ET, FS Arizona-Plus, AT&T Sportsnet-Rocky Mountains (Vegas)

ABOUT THE COYOTES (26-39-11): Antti Raanta is in the midst of a sizzling stretch, improving to 10-2-1 in his last 13 outings after his 19-save performance versus the Lightning. "Everybody was dialed in today to play the game. That's a really good thing. That's how we have been playing almost all of 2018," the 28-year-old Finn said. Brendan Perlini scored to give him points in three of his last four contests after being held off the scoresheet in 17 of his previous 21 games.

ABOUT THE GOLDEN KNIGHTS (48-21-7): Marc-Andre Fleury improved his save percentage to .952 in his last nine starts after turning aside 28 shots against the Avalanche. "I think we've been hungry all year. It's something I want to achieve every year because it's the most fun hockey to play in," said the three-time Stanley Cup champion, who stopped 58 of 61 shots to win both of his outings against Arizona this season. Marchessault has recorded five (two goals, three assists) of his team-best 72 points versus the Coyotes, highlighted by scoring one goal and setting up two others in a 4-2 victory on Nov. 25.

OVERTIME

1. Vegas LW David Perron (team-leading 50 assists) has been held off the scoresheet in four straight outings after collecting one goal and eight assists in his previous eight.

2. The Coyotes are 5-for-11 on the power play in the last four games overall, but just 1-for-12 versus the Golden Knights this season.

3. Vegas LW James Neal has three goals against Arizona this season, including an overtime tally in a 2-1 win on Oct. 7.

Philadelphia Flyers vs. Colorado Avalanche Preview and Predictions 03-28-2018

28th March 2018 by Gracenote
The Philadelphia Flyers have been unable to seal the deal away from home lately but look to do just that when they conclude their three-game road trip Wednesday against the Colorado Avalanche. Philadelphia has gone beyond regulation in each of its last three road contests but came away without a win every time - including Tuesday's game in Dallas, where they dropped a 3-2 decision in overtime.

The Flyers extended their point streak to six games (3-0-3), however, and maintained their hold on the first wild card in the Eastern Conference with five games remaining but can move past Columbus for third place in the Metropolitan Division with a victory in Denver. The Avalanche fell out of a wild-card spot in the West on Tuesday but hope to regain it and pull within two points of Minnesota for third in the Central Division by defeating Philadelphia. Colorado is coming off a split of a home-and-home series against Pacific-leading Vegas as it posted a 2-1 shootout win at home Saturday before falling 4-1 on the road two nights later. The Avalanche look to complete a sweep of the two-game season series after edging the Flyers 5-4 in a shootout on Nov. 4 in the City of Brotherly Love.

TV: 10 p.m. ET, NBCS Philadelphia Plus, Altitude (Colorado)

ABOUT THE FLYERS (38-25-14): Captain Claude Giroux, who leads the team with 92 points, is riding a five-game streak during which he has collected nine assists to set a career high of 66. The 30-year-old center is one point shy of matching the personal best he recorded in 2011-12 and has not been kept off the scoresheet in back-to-back games since Feb. 3 and 6. Defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere has been a major factor in the team's offense of late, posting back-to-back two-assist performances to give him three two-point efforts over his last four games and a total of nine points in his last eight contests.

ABOUT THE AVALANCHE (41-27-8): Several players reached milestones in Monday's loss as captain Gabriel Landeskog became the fifth draft pick in Avalanche history to appear in 500 games while Tyson Barrie joined three others as the only defensemen to skate in 400 contests for the team since it arrived in Colorado. Gabriel Bourque, who has gone 21 games without a goal, also joined in on the festivities by playing in his 300th NHL contest. Nathan MacKinnon, who has set career highs in goals (38), assists (54) and points, is two away from reaching the 300-point plateau.

OVERTIME

1. Avalanche C Alexander Kerfoot needs one point to break a tie with T.J. Galiardi (39) and become the 10th-highest scoring rookie in team history.

2. Philadelphia signed G Felix Sandstrom, its third-round pick in the 2015 draft, to an entry-level contract.

3. Colorado is the first team to make a 40-point improvement from its previous season since Pittsburgh went from 58 in 2005-06 to 105 the following campaign.

NBA | Cavs vs Hornets
Play on: Cavs +1 -103 at 5Dimes

Free Pick on Cavs +
I'm recommending a play on the Cavs at basically a pick'em in Wednesday's game at Charlotte. Cleveland had their 5-game winning streak snapped in an ugly 79-98 loss at Miami last night. The fact that the Cavs are off such a bad showing, playing on no rest and likely without Kevin Love, are all factors that I believe have the Hornets getting way too much respect.
Charlotte is technically still alive for a playoff spot, but the chances of them sneaking in are slim to none. The Hornets would basically need to win out and have either the Heat or Bucks lose all of their remaining games. That's just not going to happen. Charlotte has won 4 straight, which is great, but let's not overlook who those wins came against. The Hornets 4-game winning streak has come against the Nets, Grizzlies, Mavs and Knicks, 4 teams who have been out of the playoff picture for quite some time.
While the Cavs are in the 2nd game of a back-to-back, Charlotte is playing for the 8th time in the last 14 days. The Hornets are a mere 2-13 ATS this season when playing 8 games in 14 days. They are also a mere 5-19 ATS in their last 24 after covering 3 of their last 4 and 4-11-1 ATS in their last 16 vs a team with a winning record. Take Cleveland!

NBA | Blazers vs Grizzlies
Play on: Grizzlies +6 -103 at 5Dimes

Jack’s Free Pick Wednesday: Memphis Grizzlies +6
The Portland Trail Blazers are in a tough spot tonight. They will be playing the 2nd of a back-to-back and their 3rd road game in 4 days after a grueling 107-103 win in New Orleans last night. They had just beaten the Thunder 108-105 in another narrow win two nights before. They won’t have much left in the tank for Memphis tonight.
That’s especially the case now that Damian Lillard has been ruled out for personal reasons. Not to mention, fellow starter Maurice Harkless is also out with a knee injury. So they are short-handed right now, which will only add to the fatigue.
Memphis has had some ugly performances of late, but they are healthy enough to compete with a Portland team missing two starters. And the Grizzlies showed last time out that they haven’t completely packed it in, upsetting Minnesota 101-93 as 13-point road underdogs, covering the spread by 21 points.
This has been a closely-contested series. Indeed, five of the last six meetings have been decided by 6 points or less. The Grizzlies are 5-1 ATS in their last six games following a win. Plays on underdogs of 3.5 to 9.5 points (Memphis) - revenging a home loss, off a road win are 90-51 (63.8%) ATS over the last five seasons. Bet the Grizzlies Wednesday.

Brooklyn despite of playing well of late have lost 3 straight games, because of late collapses, as was the case against Cleveland last time out. Now very irritated and hungry I expect we see a strong start to finish effort tonight against a banged up team they can handle the Orlando Magic. Note:The Magic will be without three rotation players. Jonathon Simmons , Johnathon Issac and key cog Evan Fournier `QUOTE: "We've been competing with every team," Brooklyn forward DeMarre Carroll said. "That's what stinks. I'm a leader, and I tell them there's no moral victories. We want to win the game." END QUOTE.
BROOKLYN is 16-5 ATS in road games versus good passing teams, averaging 23 or more assists/game.ORLANDO is 19-31 ATS in home games revenging a loss vs opponent dating back to last season.
NBA Road teams where the line is +3 to -3 (BROOKLYN) - after 3 or more consecutive losses, a bad team (25% to 40%) playing a team with a losing record are 113-64 ATS L/21 seasons for a 64% conversion rate for bettors on the blind.

1* on North Texas -3
The Key: North Texas lost Game 1 of the CBI Championship Series to San Francisco 62-72 on the road. It was actually a pretty good showing considering San Francisco went 14-of-33 from 3-point range, while the Mean Green were just 4-of-21 from distance. Surely there won’t be that big of a discrepancy in Game 2 tonight. Look for North Texas to get a win and cover at home to stay alive. This is a team that upset South Dakota 90-77 as 11.5-point dogs, crushed Mercer by 29 as 3-point dogs and obliterated Jacksonville State by 22 as 1-point favorites in their three previous games. They will get back to playing the way they were before that Game 1 loss. Take North Texas.

I think we have a case of the wrong team being favored in this matchup between Brooklyn and Orlando. The Magic have had three days off in between games having last played on Saturday. The Nets are coming off two straight games against two of the top teams in the East in Toronto and Cleveland. They will have a hard time getting up for the Magic after facing those two juggernauts. The home team has dominated this series of late, going 7-0 SU & 5-1-1 ATS in the last seven meetings. Orlando is 6-1 ATS in its last seven games following an ATS loss. Give me the Magic.

10* FREE NBA PICK (Timberwolves -12.5)
I'll take my chances here laying the big number with Minnesota at home against Atlanta on Wednesday. I know the Timberwolves just lost at home to the Grizzlies 93-101 as a 13-point favorite in their last game, but I actually think that works in our favor here, as we can bank on the very best Minnesota has to offer in this game. They simply can't afford to lose this contest if they want to make the playoffs, as they are now 8th in the standings, just 1.5-games ahead of the 9th place Clippers. Not only do I think we get a locked in Timberwolves team, but I also have a hard time seeing the Hawks being all that competitive. Atlanta is clearly in tank mode and are coming off games against the Warriors and Rockets, where they cam out and played hard. The even bigger key here is they won't have starting point guard Dennis Schroder or backup Malcolm Delaney. That leaves Isaiah Taylor and Josh Magette as their top two options at the point. This is also the 6th and final game of a 6-game road trip for Atlanta. Look for the Hawks to be more interested in the flight home than making a game of this against Minnesota. Give me the Timberwolves -12.5!

Cavaliers vs Hornets Free Pick March 28, 2018

The Cavs are in a tough spot tonight in Charlotte. They are coming off a 19-point blowout loss at Miami last night. They were out-scored by 20 points in the first half of last night's game. The news goes from bad to worse for the Cavs, and just a few days after he returned from injury, Kevin Love could be on the shelf again. The Cavs second leading scorer took a shot to the head in last night's loss, and he will be evaluated Wednesday to determine if the will be put in the league's concussion protocol. The Hornets have won four straight, and they have been lighting up the scoreboard during their win streak, averaging 122.5 points per game. Cleveland hasn't been good at picking up the pieces after a tough game, going just 7-20 ATS in their last 27 games following an ATS loss. Cleveland has failed to cover in five of it's last seven road games, and playing the second game of a back to back, possibly without Love, they shouldn't be a favorite here in Charlotte.

Take CHA.

GL,

Jesse Schule

Scott "The Bulldog" Rickenbach NHL Game #57 Wednesday Free Pick Arizona Coyotes Money Line (+230) @ Vegas Golden Knights @ 10:05 ET - The Coyotes want this game badly. This is the 5th and final meeting for this season between these divisional foes and Arizona lost each of the first four. The Coyotes did lose two of those games in overtime and they are playing much better hockey now than they were back when the prior meetings took place. In fact, this is the first meeting between these divisional foes in nearly 4 months. The Coyotes enter this game having gone 14-7-2 in their last 23 games. Note that the situation here is strengthened too because, not only is Arizona hungry, the Golden Knights are off of a playoff-clinching win over Colorado Monday. Vegas could be in for a letdown here. Keep in mind they had lost 4 of 6 and 8 of 14 prior to the win over the Avalanche. Based on all of the above, this is the perfect spot to take a shot with a huge underdog. Vegas has big games on deck versus St Louis and San Jose (right behind them in division) and after the huge back to back games with Colorado, this is a sandwich spot for the Golden Knights. I'm recommending a play on the Brooklyn Nets on Wednesday. Joe Harris is on fire while getting more minutes for the Nets and the team has picked it up on the offensive end as the brass has mixed and matched certain lineups. The Nets are averaging 113 points per game over their last six, making over 47 percent of their shots over their last five. Orlando doesn't have a lot of offensive "outs" and have scored about 99 points per game in their last five. They're making about 10 of 30 treys per night and the Magic aren't getting to the free throw line, attempting about 17 per game of late, 10 fewer free throw attempts than Brooklyn is averaging over the same time span. Joe Harris scored 30 points and grabbed seven rebounds against the Cavaliers and we expect more minutes tonight. Orlando has won just four of their last 19 games outright. Brooklyn has covered five in a row on the road and they're 4-1-1 ATS in the last six meetings. I'm recommending a play on the Brooklyn Nets on Wednesday. Thanks & GL! Scott Spreitzer.

DMack's Free Play for Wednesday, March 28, 2018 is on the Utah Jazz
The Jazz have split four games after winning nine straight. They are off a blowout win at toothless Golden State but just one game safe in the ultra-competitive West. Boston has won 5 of 7 but other than a win at Portland have been beating teams with vacation reservations in two weeks. The Celts face a team that is white-hot and plays defense like they're not used to. No urgency for Boston either way has Jazz extending late to another double-digit win.

The big story out of the "Windy City" is Loyola-Chicago heading to San Antonio for the Final Four this Saturday, but Illinois-Chicago is ALSO still "dancing", as they play this semifinal meeting in Lynchburg, Virginia against the Flames of Liberty.

Both teams have won and covered both of their games in this CIT, but it is Illinois-Chicago that has had a few extra days of preparation, as they have been off since the 21st, while Liberty last played on the 24th.

Liberty has only seen 10 of their games this season sport an "official" number, and while they are 3-1 against the spread in their 4 lined home games, Illinois-Chicago can counter with a 10-6 against the spread mark on the road for the season.

The visiting Flames have a little more "octane" in their tank on offense (75.3 ppg) than the host Flames (69.4 ppg), and while Illinois of Chicago does allow 9 points per game more, they do grab more rebounds per game - at almost 5 per 40 minutes - so I think all things being equal there just isn't a 3 basket difference between the schools tonight.

I am sure the Chicago-based Flames also have a pretty big chip on their shoulders having to see the local news cover the Ramblers 24/7, so expect an "us vs. the world" mentality tonight, and expect a close game too.

Illinois-Chicago to cover.

On to my complimentary winner...

The Cleveland Cavaliers went into Miami last night, and the Heat served that ass. To the tune of a 98-79 thrashing, and now the Cavs have to go into Charlotte to face a Hornets team that has won four in a row, and has had a night to recoup since a 137-128 marathon win over New York.

Charlotte has a lot of ground to gain, and I don't know if it will be able to sneak in unless Milwaukee or Miami collapses, but the Hornets won't go out lame.

With a chance to catch a hindered Cavs team tonight, at home, I'll play the Hornets.

Suddenly, the Washington Capitals have found their rhythm. And as they ride a four-game win streak into tonight's game against the New York Rangers, I have to believe Ovi is primed for another big game.

NHL-leading goal scorer Alex Ovechkin has helped the Capitals during an 8-1 run that has seen the team outscore opponents by a collective final of 36-23 in that span. During that span, the Capitals have trailed in each of those nine games for a total of 42:18 minutes, the lowest in the NHL
since March 10.

The Rangers, meanwhile, have lost four of five and seven of 10, as goaltending has been an issue since Henrik Lundqvist suffered a scary injury. He will be back, but the Rangers are out of the playoffs, so there isn't much motivation.

On the other hand, the Capitals hold a five-point lead in the Metropolitan Division through games played March 26, and are looking for
their third consecutive division title and 11th overall.
