Mahoning Valley Race Course - Race #1 - Post: 12:45pm - Claiming - 6.0 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $16,900 Class Rating: 68

Rating: Golden DollarGolden DollarGolden DollarGolden Dollar

#4 DIVINE APPOINTMENT (ML=8/1)
#1 TIA GEGO (ML=5/1)
#6 SINCERE DEVOTION (ML=6/5)

DIVINE APPOINTMENT - A wise man taught me to bet on the lone speed horse. Take a look at this horse. The jock and trainer combination have a beneficial ROI when they unite. TIA GEGO - This rider and conditioner's horses have been generating a lucrative ROI. Ran last time around the track against a high class rated field at Mahoning Valley Race Cour. The move down the class ladder should suit her well. Classic angle - 3rd or 4th start after a layoff generally leads to a big effort. A live horse today. SINCERE DEVOTION - Entered at the same class level and distance of her last win, which is a big plus for this filly. I think this filly is coming into top form. I like to play this angle, a thoroughbred coming back off a strong outing within the last month or so.

Vulnerable Contenders: #2 CIRCLE CAN WIN (ML=2/1),

CIRCLE CAN WIN - Didn't do alot last time out of the box. Probably won't make a winning move today. I find it hard to play any thoroughbred in a sprint contest at 2/1 when she hasn't shown any on the board results in sprints in the last 60 days. Improbable that the speed fig she recorded on Mar 5th will be good enough in this event.

# 3 SMOOTH DON B 2/1

# 2 SHIMERVILLE 5/1

# 4 THORN HILL CAT 3/1

SMOOTH DON B looks solid to best this field. Has garnered reliable Equibase Speed Figures in dirt sprint races in the past. Sanchez has been scorching the last month, winning at a nifty 17 percent clip. Has to be given a shot - I like the figs from the last affair. SHIMERVILLE - Will most likely compete quite well in the early pace battle which bodes well with this field. With a solid 78 speed fig last time out, will unquestionably be a factor in this race. THORN HILL CAT - This equine is in the upper half of this field in earnings per start at the distance/surface. Have to examine solely on class, with some of the strongest class figs of this group.

# 2 K P PERGOLISCIOUS (IRE) 5/1

# 4 LOVABLE LILLY 5/1

# 3 TIZ ALL BEHIND US 4/1

K P PERGOLISCIOUS (IRE) has a very good shot to take this race. She should be considered given the competitive speed figures. Make a note that this one runs with second time Lasix today. Always good to invest in a trainer with this kind of very good win percentage - 27 percent - at this distance & surface. LOVABLE LILLY - Ran a solid last race. TIZ ALL BEHIND US - Must be given a shot as she drops to compete against this softer field of horses. In this field, this horse is ranked high in earnings per start in dirt sprint events.

#6 COZY BAR (ML=5/1)
#8 MY LITTLE TWEETY (ML=4/1)
#1 HIGH ON FINAL (ML=30/1)
#4 MAYS OR MANTLE (ML=15/1)

COZY BAR - Good trainers run fit horses. The fact that Esquibel worked this gelding at a long distance tells me this one should be ready today. Esquibel drops him down to this level. You don't need too much more handicapping information to think this one should have a chance to win at this level. Just missed hitting the board on March 20th at Turf Paradise. With respectable odds today, he has my interest. MY LITTLE TWEETY - Gelding took a little vacation, but has been racing into shape. This gelding is in good condition, having run a nice race on Mar 11th, finishing first. This gelding's last figure is strong enough to score here, I'll play him back again this time. HIGH ON FINAL - Generally, I don't play a thoroughbred off drills alone, but when I see a gelding work at the same distance or longer than a race he's entered in, I become interested. This gelding likes to be near the lead. Today's race is a shorter distance and should promote his chances of winning. Last time around the track was at Turf Paradise in a race with an Equibase class figure of 89. Dropping considerably in Equibase class figure today puts him in a solid position right here in this race. MAYS OR MANTLE - The jock and conditioner combination have a lucrative return on investment when they join forces.

Vulnerable Contenders: #3 KISS MY HENNESSY (ML=3/5), #7 REALLY BOPPIN (ML=8/1),

KISS MY HENNESSY - Would be taking an underlay on this thoroughbred at the probable odds of 3/5. REALLY BOPPIN - Doubtful that the speed fig he registered on March 18th will be enough in this affair. Ran a great speed fig last race out, but the struggle will probably take too much out of him.

Kansas City Royals vs. Detroit Tigers Preview and Predictions 04-03-2018

3rd April 2018 by Gracenote
Scoring runs was bound to be a problem for the Kansas City Royals this season, but the team's offensive woes have been even worse than expected during their 0-3 start. The Royals will try to get the bats going against Detroit Tigers left-hander Matthew Boyd in the second of a three-game series Tuesday in Detroit.

The Royals are hitting just .206 as a team following Monday's 6-1 loss in the series opener. No regular is hitting over .250, but Kansas City hopes to change that against Boyd - third baseman Mike Moustakas is 5-for-13 with a double and a homer against the Tigers' southpaw, while second baseman Whit Merrifield is 4-for-10 with two doubles and a triple. Detroit swung the bats well in the opener, picking up its first win of the season as Nicholas Castellanos and Victor Martinez delivered the biggest hits of the game. Castellanos is off to a hot start, as he is 7-for-17 with a double and a pair of triples through four games.

TV: 1:10 p.m. ET, MLB Network, FS Kansas City, FS Detroit

PITCHING MATCHUP: Royals RH Jakob Junis (2017: 9-3, 4.30 ERA) vs. Tigers LH Matthew Boyd (2017: 6-11, 5.27)

Junis put together a solid rookie campaign, especially down the stretch, as he allowed two or fewer earned runs in six of his last eight starts in 2017. The 25-year-old had an excellent spring, racking up 20 strikeouts in 14 1/3 innings. Junis was 2-1 with a 6.75 ERA in three games (two starts) against Detroit last year.

Boyd took a step backward last year, as his walk rate crept up. The 27-year-old followed a strong September with a solid spring, though, giving the Tigers hope he can take the next step in his development. Boyd is 2-4 with a 7.91 ERA in nine starts against the Royals.

WALK-OFFS

1. Royals 1B Lucas Duda left Monday's game with a tight right hamstring after running out a grounder in the fourth inning.

2. Detroit catchers have thrown out five of seven potential base-stealers.

3. Kansas City claimed OF Abraham Almonte off waivers from Cleveland on Monday and designated RHP Miguel Almonte for assignment.

PREDICTION: Tigers 5, Royals 4

Tampa Bay Rays vs. New York Yankees Preview and Predictions 04-03-2018

2nd April 2018 by Gracenote
Yankee Stadium was shrouded in snow Monday, forcing the postponement of New York's home opener against the Tampa Bay Rays. The teams are now scheduled to meet up Tuesday, although rain and cold temperatures are expected and could damper the home debut for Yankees slugger Giancarlo Stanton.

The 2017 Major League home run king crushed a pair of homers in his debut with New York to lift them to a season-opening win at Toronto last week, but was 1-for-9 in the next three games as the Yankees split the four-game set with the Blue Jays. New York led 4-1 into the seventh inning Sunday before the bullpen faltered for the second straight day in a 7-4 defeat. The Yankees are 16-4 in home openers since 1998 and will take on a Tampa Bay squad that managed three runs over the course of three straight losses to the Boston Red Sox. Tampa Bay was planning on using reliever Austin Pruitt as the starter before the postponement, which allows them to turn to Chris Archer on Tuesday.

TV: 4:05 p.m. ET, FS Sun (Tampa Bay), YES (New York)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Rays RH Chris Archer (0-0, 6.00 ERA) vs. Yankees LH Jordan Montgomery (2017: 9-7, 3.88)

Archer gave up four runs and six hits with six strikeouts in six innings against the Red Sox on Thursday. He was 1-2 with a 4.24 ERA in four starts against the Yankees last season, including one outing in the Bronx in which he fanned 10 batters in six innings. The 29-year-old owns a 2.96 ERA in 17 career encounters with New York and Stanton is 0-for-6 with two strikeouts against Archer.

Montgomery struck out 144 and allowed 140 hits in 155 1/3 innings during a solid rookie campaign in 2017. He was 6-3 with a 3.43 ERA in 15 starts at Yankee Stadium, including six innings of one-run ball against the Rays on Sept. 26 to pick up his ninth and final win of the year. The 25-year-old posted a 3.43 mark in six spring training appearances to help lock down the last spot in the rotation.

WALK-OFFS

1. New York C Gary Sanchez is hitless in his last 11 at-bats.

2. Yankees 3B Brandon Drury slugged a two-run homer Sunday and is 5-for-13 with four RBIs through the first four games.

3. Rays RH Yonny Chirinos made his major league debut a memorable one with four scoreless innings of relief against the Red Sox on Sunday.

PREDICTION: Yankees 5, Rays 3

Seattle Mariners vs. San Francisco Giants Preview and Predictions 04-03-2018

2nd April 2018 by Gracenote
The San Francisco Giants play their home opener versus the Seattle Mariners on Tuesday after setting a franchise record for fewest runs scored in the first four games of a season. San Francisco, though, remarkably gained a four-game split with the Los Angeles Dodgers despite getting outscored 14-2 with the runs coming on Joe Panik home runs.

"We won two out of four," Evan Longoria, who is hitless in his first 15 at-bats with the Giants, told reporters. "I guess that's what we take out it. For me, I've got a long way to go, but we've got a lot of games left." Seattle hits the road for eight games after taking two of three from Cleveland to open the season with Mitch Haniger (5-for-8, two home runs) and Robinson Cano (6-for-10) off to blazing starts. The Mariners' Marco Gonzalez opposes Ty Blach, who won on Opening Day, in a matchup of left-handers who know each other well from their travel-team days growing up in Colorado. "We have very similar pitching styles, for sure," Blach told reporters. "He's got a good changeup, good off-speed, he mixes his pitches well and swings the bat pretty well. It'll be fun to go up against him."

TV: 4:35 p.m. ET, MLB Network; ROOT Sports Northwest (Seattle), NBCS Bay Area (San Francisco)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Mariners LH Marco Gonzales (2017: 1-1, 6.08 ERA) vs. Giants LH Ty Blach (1-0, 0.00)

Gonzales made one start for St. Louis last season before he was traded to Seattle, when he went 1-1 with a 5.40 ERA in 10 games (seven starts) - all after the All-Star break. Gonzales, who appears on an Opening Day roster for the first time, went 4-2 with a 4.15 ERA in 10 games (five starts) with the Cardinals in 2014 before he missed most of 2015 with shoulder injuries and all of 2016 while recovering from Tommy John surgery. Gonzales was sharp in spring training, yielding six runs and 22 hits while striking out 21 in 26 innings.

Blach yielded three hits and three walks while striking out three in five innings of a 1-0 victory over Clayton Kershaw and the Dodgers in Los Angeles on Thursday. "We knew he wouldn't be nervous or scared or in awe of everything," San Francisco manager Bruce Bochy told reporters. "We were very confident he would give us a chance to win today." Blach has been more effective at AT&T Park than on the road during his career, going 6-5 with a 3.83 in 19 home games (14 starts) versus 4-7, 4.86 in 20 outings (13 starts) in opposing ballparks.

WALK-OFFS

1. San Francisco's Buster Posey is 4-for-13 to start the season as he bids to become the fourth catcher in baseball history to record seven consecutive years with 150 or more hits (Jason Kendall, Mike Piazza, Ted Simmons).

2. Seattle OF Ichiro Suzuki (2-for-9 this season) has 3,082 hits and needs 29 to pass Dave Winfield and move into 20th on the all-time list.

3. The Giants, who trail the Mariners 16-13 in the series, play their home opener against an American League team for the first time since interleague play began in 1997.

PREDICTION: Giants 1, Mariners 0

Boston Red Sox vs. Miami Marlins Preview and Predictions 04-03-2018

2nd April 2018 by Gracenote
The Boston Red Sox wrap up a season-opening six-game road trip Tuesday at the Miami Marlins, and strong starting pitching along with excellent defense have led them to four victories in their first five contests. Red Sox starters have posted a 0.90 ERA and a 0.97 WHIP in the early days of the season while allowing a total of three earned runs, and defensively the Red Sox have yet to commit an error, the longest Boston streak of flawless baseball to open a season since 2013.

Shortstop Xander Bogaerts continued his hot start to the season with two hits in Monday's 7-3 victory at Miami, and is hitting .455 through five games with five runs scored and five doubles. Marlins pitching has allowed six runs or more three times in five games while starting the season 2-3. Second baseman Starlin Castro finished 3-for-5 Monday and is hitting .364 through his first five games with Miami, and his next homer will give him 100 for his career. The Marlins travel to Philadelphia for three contests after wrapping up their six-game homestand, then return home for their next six against the New York Mets and Pittsburgh.

TV: 6:10 p.m. ET, NESN (Boston), FS Florida (Miami)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Red Sox LH Chris Sale (0-0, 0.00 ERA) vs. Marlins RH Jose Urena (0-1, 11.25)

Sale, who led the majors with 308 strikeouts while going 17-8 with a 2.90 ERA in his first season with Boston in 2017, opened his 2018 with six shutout innings of one-hit pitching in a no-decision Thursday against Tampa Bay. The 29-year-old struggled a bit with his control on Opening Day, walking three while throwing just 54 of his 92 pitches for strikes. Sale has pitched once in Miami - for the White Sox in 2016 - giving up five runs on eight hits in 6 2/3 innings to take the loss.

It would be difficult for Urena's second start of the season to be worse than his first, considering he allowed five runs on six hits with four walks and three hit-batsmen in four innings of a loss to the Chicago Cubs on Thursday. The 26-year-old, who shared the major league lead by hitting 14 hitters a season ago, hit three hitters in a nightmarish first inning Thursday in which he gave up a homer on the first pitch and also walked in a run. Urena, a 14-game winner last season, makes his first career appearance against the Red Sox.

WALK-OFFS

1. After scoring 18 runs on 38 hits in splitting a four-game series against the Cubs to open the season, Miami was limited to three runs (two scoring after Boston built a 6-1 advantage) on 10 hits in the series opener Monday - finishing 2-for-14 with runners in scoring position and leaving 10 runners on base.

2. Boston 1B Hanley Ramirez, who ranks in the top five in Marlins history in hits, runs scored, doubles and homers, slugged his first homer of the season Monday while finishing 2-for-5 with two runs scored and two RBIs.

3. Red Sox RF Mookie Betts has hit safely in 22 of his past 23 games in games at National League stadiums, including each of his past 12 games.

PREDICTION: Red Sox 5, Marlins 1

Chicago Cubs vs. Cincinnati Reds Preview and Predictions 04-03-2018

3rd April 2018 by Gracenote
The Chicago Cubs are expected to have one of the most potent lineups in the majors, which makes their early struggles all the more surprising. The slumping Cubs hope to break out of their offensive funk when they wrap up a two-game road set with the Cincinnati Reds on Tuesday.

Chicago was limited to two hits in a 1-0 loss to the Reds on Monday - the Cubs' second straight shutout loss - and has racked up a National League-record 58 strikeouts through five games, but manager Joe Maddon says the struggles are temporary. "We're going to be a really good offensive club," Maddon told reporters. "This is what is going on now." The Reds didn't have much more going at the plate Monday, but Eugenio Suarez tripled and scored on Adam Duvall's sacrifice fly for the only run of the game to give Cincinnati its first win. The running game might help the Reds get their offense going against Tuesday starter Jon Lester, who has a tough time holding runners.

TV: 6:40 p.m. ET, WGN (Chicago), FS Ohio (Cincinnati)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Cubs LH Jon Lester (0-0, 8.10 ERA) vs. Reds LH Cody Reed (2017: 1-1, 5.09)

Lester struggled on Opening Day against the Marlins, lasting only 3 1/3 innings and allowing four runs (three earned) and seven hits. The 34-year-old is a notoriously slow starter, as he's 15-17 over his career in March and April but has a winning record in every other month. Lester is 5-1 with a 4.27 ERA in 13 starts against the Reds, including a 2-1 mark and 3.66 ERA in six outings at Great American Ball Park.

Reed was slated to begin the season in the bullpen, but Thursday's rainout meant the Reds needed a fifth starter sooner than expected. The 24-year-old struggled during the spring but showed signs of reining in the control problems that plagued him a year ago, when he walked 19 batters in 17 2/3 innings across 12 appearances in the majors. Reed is 0-3 with a 16.20 ERA in three starts against the Cubs, who tagged him for seven runs in two innings in his only big-league start last year.

WALK-OFFS

Chicago White Sox vs. Toronto Blue Jays Preview and Predictions 04-03-2018

3rd April 2018 by Gracenote
The Toronto Blue Jays and Chicago White Sox rank among the major's most homer-happy teams this season, and their first meeting certainly did not disappoint in that regard. One night after the teams combined to score all six of their runs via the long ball, the host Blue Jays and White Sox hope to flex their muscles yet again in the second of three-game set Tuesday.

Russell Martin delivered a go-ahead two-run blast while Josh Donaldson and Aledmys Diaz contributed solo shots to send Toronto to a third straight victory following Monday's 4-2 triumph over Chicago. Martin's home run propelled the Blue Jays to their third consecutive comeback victory - a stretch during which they have connected on six of their eight homers. The White Sox have belted an American League-high nine home runs despite playing only three games, six of which came during their 14-run outburst in an Opening Day win over the Kansas City Royals. Welington Castillo continued to be a thorn in the side of Toronto with two solo shots Monday after going deep five times against the Blue Jays in 2017 - his highest total against any opponent.

TV: 7:07 p.m. ET, NBCS Chicago Plus, Sportsnet (Toronto)

PITCHING MATCHUP: White Sox RH Miguel Gonzalez (2017: 8-13, 4.62 ERA) vs. Blue Jays LH J.A. Happ (0-1, 3.86)

Gonzalez went 1-3 with a 6.45 ERA over the final five games of 2017 with the Texas Rangers after he was traded by the White Sox on Aug. 31 before returning to Chicago on a one-year deal in January. The 33-year-old did not fare much better during exhibition play despite winning both of his decisions, posting a 5.40 ERA and 1.80 WHIP in four turns. Donaldson is 4-for-12 with three RBIs against Gonzalez, who is 7-4 with a 3.63 ERA in 15 games (14 starts) versus the Blue Jays.

Happ pitched better than his final line indicated in Thursday's Opening Day 6-1 loss against the New York Yankees, as Curtis Granderson's error on the first play of the game eventually led to Giancarlo Stanton's two-run homer. The Northwestern product departed after 4 2/3 innings and 96 pitches, giving up three runs (two earned) on four hits and a walk while striking out five. Happ toyed with the White Sox in two starts last season, winning both outings while posting a 2.63 ERA and striking out 19 in 13 2/3 frames.

WALK-OFFS

1. The Blue Jays have scored 13 of their 19 runs this season in the seventh inning or later.

2. Chicago 1B Jose Abreu went 3-for-4 in the series opener and is batting .374 over his last 23 games.

3. After serving as the DH in each of the last four games due to a "dead arm," Donaldson is expected to return to the third base Tuesday.

Philadelphia Phillies vs. New York Mets Preview and Predictions 04-03-2018

3rd April 2018 by Gracenote
The New York Mets look to continue their dominance in the series when they host the Philadelphia Phillies on Tuesday in the opener of a two-game set, shortened by Monday's postponement due to snow. The Mets have won the last six season series with the Phillies after taking 12 of 19 contests last year and they beat the St. Louis Cardinals in two of three at home to open 2018.

New York scored 15 times to win the first two games before losing 5-1 on Sunday and center fielder Juan Lagares has led the way with five hits in nine at-bats, while Yoenis Cespedes hit safely in all three games with four RBIs. Matt Harvey hopes for a healthy season as he takes the mound for the Mets on Tuesday against Ben Lively in a battle of right-handers who were both scheduled to pitch Monday. The Phillies dropped two of three at Atlanta to open the season and gave up 27 runs total to the Braves, including a 15-2 loss on Saturday before taking a much-needed day off after using 22 pitchers in their first series. Last year's rookie sensation Rhys Hoskins has picked up where he left off with five hits, including two doubles and a homer, in 10 at-bats over the first three contests.

TV: 7:10 p.m. ET, MLB Network, SNY (New York), NBCS Philadelphia

PITCHING MATCHUP: Phillies RH Ben Lively (2017: 4-7, 4.26 ERA) vs. Mets RH Matt Harvey (2017: 5-7, 6.70)

Lively posted quality starts in five of his first six outings in the major leagues after being recalled last June, including 6 1/3 innings of two-run ball in a tough loss at New York on June 30. The 26-year-old Florida native allowed five runs in 19 1/3 frames spread over three solid matchups with the Mets on the season. Jose Reyes has a triple and a homer against Lively, who posted a 3.13 ERA in six Grapefruit League appearances to earn a spot in the rotation.

A broken bone in his shoulder limited Harvey - who missed all of 2014 and much of 2016 because of injury - to 19 games (18 starts) last year, as he sat out all of July and August. The one-time All-Star returned to go 1-4 with an 11.28 ERA in six appearances in September, ending the season with a loss at Philadelphia in which he was tagged for four runs in four frames. Maikel Franco is 3-for-8 with two homers against Harvey, who is 7-3 with a 3.07 ERA in 11 career starts versus the Phillies.

WALK-OFFS

1. Philadelphia's rookie INF/OF Scott Kingery has registered two hits in each of his first two major-league games, including a pair of doubles.

2. New York 2B Asdrubal Cabrera is 4-for-9 over the last two games and batted .406 with four homers and 13 RBIs against the Phillies in 2017.

3. Monday's game was rescheduled for July 9 as part of a single-admission doubleheader that opens a four-game series.

Washington Nationals vs. Atlanta Braves Preview and Predictions 04-03-2018

2nd April 2018 by Gracenote
The Washington Nationals are off to a 4-0 start for the first time and look to continue their strong early-season showing in Tuesday's middle contest of a three-game set against the host Atlanta Braves. The Nationals, who scored 21 runs in a season-opening sweep at Cincinnati, scored five times in the first two innings Monday en route to an 8-1 victory over the Braves as Bryce Harper continued his opening-week assault on opposing pitchers.

Harper slugged his third homer in two days and drew four walks Monday, driving in three runs and scoring three times as he enters Tuesday hitting .417 through four games. Atlanta, which won two of three against Philadelphia to begin the season, had its hot offense snuffed out in the series opener. Entering the night hitting .325 after scoring 27 runs against the Phillies, the Braves collected just four hits off Washington pitching. Third baseman Ryan Flaherty, signed late in spring training to fill in while Johan Camargo recovers from an oblique injury, finished 1-for-3 in the series opener and is batting .500 through four games with a 1.217 OPS and five runs scored.

TV: 7:35 p.m. ET, MASN 2 (Washington), FS South (Atlanta)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Nationals RH A.J. Cole (2017: 3-5, 3.81 ERA) vs. Braves RH Julio Teheran (0-0, 6.35)

The pitching-rich Nationals think they have a solid backup in Cole, who overcame a rough August in 2017 to post a 3.00 ERA while going 2-1 in six appearances (three starts) in September. The 26-year-old posted a 4.85 ERA in 13 innings in spring training but struggled with his control, issuing as many walks (seven) as runs allowed. Cole has made two career appearances against the Braves (one start), giving up seven earned runs in four innings.

Teheran, who went 3-10 with a 5.86 ERA and 17 homers allowed in 17 home starts a season ago, pitched marginally better in the season opener at home Thursday against Philadelphia. The 27-year-old surrendered four runs on four hits with three walks and one homer allowed in 5 2/3 innings, getting a no-decision as the Braves rallied late. Teheran did some of his best work last season against the Nationals, going 3-1 with a 3.24 ERA and a 1.28 WHIP in four starts.

WALK-OFFS

1. Nationals OF Adam Eaton, the reigning National League player of the week after hitting .615 with two homers, five RBIs and seven runs scored last week, did not play Monday.

2. Atlanta added RHP Anibal Sanchez and C Carlos Perez to the 25-man roster Monday, designating RHP Miguel Socolovich for assignment and placing RHP Josh Ravin (viral infection) on the disabled list.

3. Braves 1B Freddie Freeman tied a franchise record (held by Hall of Famer Eddie Mathews in 1955) with eight walks in the first four games of a season.

Baltimore Orioles vs. Houston Astros Preview and Predictions 04-03-2018

3rd April 2018 by Gracenote
The Houston Astros' pregame ceremony to unveil their World Series flag did not go according to plan Monday, but that snag was about the only thing that didn't go right in their home opener. The Astros set their sights on a fourth straight victory Tuesday, when they continue their three-game set against the visiting Baltimore Orioles.

Houston resorted to using a leaf blower on Monday to aid in the lifting of the fabric that was covering the championship pennant when the ropes failed to do the job during a windy night in Houston before Alex Bregman doubled home George Springer to send the Astros to a 6-1 win. The rotation has been up to the task in the team's 4-1 start, posting a 1.78 ERA and 36 strikeouts. Justin Verlander set the tone for the starting pitchers with his Opening-Day victory and attempts to keep his perfect regular-season record as an Astro intact against the Orioles, who are batting .129 and have been outscored 19-3 during their three-game losing streak. Manny Machado (.231) is the only Baltimore regular hitting over .200, and he only has one hit in nine at-bats since going 2-for-4 in the season opener.

TV: 8:10 p.m. ET, MLB Network, MASN (Baltimore), AT&T Sportsnet-Southwest Plus (Houston)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Orioles RH Mike Wright (2017: 0-0, 5.76 ERA) vs. Astros RH Justin Verlander (1-0, 0.00)

Wright won a rotation spot in spring training despite a less-than-impressive showing, surrendering 15 runs - 14 earned - on 26 hits and five walks across 19 innings while dropping both of his decisions. The native of South Carolina made all 13 of his appearances last season out of the bullpen, and he is 3-4 with a 6.22 ERA in 21 career starts (12 in 2016). The Astros tagged Wright for five runs in as many innings to give him a loss the only time they faced him in 2015.

Verlander improved to 10-1 with a 1.53 ERA in 13 starts (including playoffs) since he was acquired from Detroit last August with Thursday's victory over Texas, striking out five over six scoreless frames. The 2011 American League Cy Young Award winner has been even more dominant in his regular-season starts with the Astros, winning each of his six turns while posting a 0.90 ERA. Verlander won his only start against the Orioles last year, allowing two runs and fanning 10 over seven innings.

WALK-OFFS

1. Astros SS Carlos Correa departed after the second inning Monday with discomfort in his left big toe and is day-to-day.

2. Baltimore has dropped 12 of the last 14 meetings in this series, including all seven at Minute Maid Park.

3. Houston pitchers have struck out 49 batters, a club record through the first five games.

St. Louis Cardinals vs. Milwaukee Brewers Preview and Predictions 04-03-2018

3rd April 2018 by Gracenote
Shortstop Paul DeJong looks to continue his red-hot start with the bat when the St. Louis Cardinals visit the Milwaukee Brewers on Tuesday night for the middle contest of a three-game series. DeJong belted a three-run homer for his third blast in two days as the Cardinals knocked off Milwaukee 8-4 on Monday afternoon for their second straight win after starting the season with two setbacks.

DeJong, who hit .285 with 25 homers and 65 RBIs in his first full season in the majors last season, launched a pair of solo homers in Sunday's win over the New York Mets and is 7-for-15 with four runs scored in the early going. Chase Anderson, who was outstanding in the season opener last week for Milwaukee, will try to cool off DeJong while Jack Flaherty makes his season debut for St. Louis. The Brewers swept three games at San Diego to start the season before suffering the loss in the franchise's 50th home opener Monday despite hitting three homers. Center fielder Lorenzo Cain, a major free-agent signing in the offseason, hit one of the blasts and is off to a scorching start with the bat while going 9-for-18 with four RBIs, three steals and no strikeouts.

TV: 7:40 p.m. ET, FS Midwest (St. Louis), FS Wisconsin (Milwaukee)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Cardinals RH Jack Flaherty (2017: 0-2, 6.33 ERA) vs. Brewers RH Chase Anderson (0-0, 0.00)

Flaherty was recalled to take the spot on the roster of Adam Wainwright after the two-time 20-game winner went on the disabled list before the season with a hamstring injury. The 22-year-old Californian went 14-4 with a 2.18 ERA in 25 starts at Triple-A and Double-A combined last season before struggling in six appearances (five starts) with the Cardinals. Flaherty gave up four runs on five hits in five innings to lose against Milwaukee on Oct. 1.

Anderson threw the ball well last Thursday while allowing one hit over six scoreless innings with six strikeouts and three walks in 97 pitches, but did not get a decision in a 2-1 win. The 30-year-old Texas native is coming off his best of four major-league seasons when he went 12-4 with a 2.74 ERA after going 5-1 in the last seven starts. Marcell Ozuna is 6-for-14 with a double against Anderson, who went 2-0 with a 3.04 ERA in four starts against the Cardinals last season.

WALK-OFFS

1. St. Louis C Yadier Molina is 5-for-16 with two homers to start the season and has hit safely in nine straight games against the Brewers.

2. Milwaukee LF Ryan Braun is 1-for-12 to start the season but leads the team with five RBIs - three coming on a homer Friday.

3. Cardinals 3B Jedd Gyorko went 2-for-2 with two runs scored and an RBI Monday before leaving the game with a right hamstring strain.

Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Arizona Diamondbacks Preview and Predictions 04-03-2018

3rd April 2018 by Gracenote
One of the most reliable closers in the game, the Los Angeles Dodgers' Kenley Jansen is facing questions about his decreased velocity after struggling in his first two appearances. Jansen quickly has become a major source of concern for the Dodgers, who continue their three-game series against the host Arizona Diamondbacks on Tuesday.

Jansen allowed a total of five home runs in 68 1/3 innings last year but gave up his second in two appearances this season on Monday, when Chris Owings belted a game-tying three-run blast with two outs in the ninth. Arizona finally prevailed 8-7 as Nick Ahmed and Jeff Mathis each drove in a run off Wilmer Font in the bottom of the 15th inning after the Dodgers had taken a one-run lead in the top half. Ahmed continued his hot start with three hits and Ketel Marte went 3-for-7 with two triples for the Diamondbacks, who have won their last seven regular-season meetings with the Dodgers. Both teams will be looking for their starting pitchers to go deep into the game Tuesday after combining to use 15 relievers in Monday's contest, which lasted nearly six hours.

TV: 9:40 p.m. ET, SportsNet LA (Los Angeles), FS Arizona

PITCHING MATCHUP: Dodgers LH Clayton Kershaw (0-1, 1.50 ERA) vs. Diamondbacks RH Zack Godley (2017: 8-9, 3.37)

Kershaw made his franchise-record eighth consecutive Opening Day start on Thursday and lost for the first time, giving up one run over six innings in a 1-0 loss to San Francisco. After tossing 21 1/3 scoreless frames across six spring starts, the three-time Cy Young Award winner was nearly as impressive in the opener, striking out seven while walking two. Paul Goldschmidt is 10-for-44 with two home runs versus Kershaw, who is 14-8 with a 2.55 ERA in 26 career starts against Arizona.

Godley appears primed to build on last season's breakout performance, when he set career highs in starts (25), wins (eight), innings (155) and strikeouts (165). "I'm looking for everything to continue," manager Torey Lovullo told reporters. "He came into camp in very good shape and very ready for every challenge that's going to be put before him this year." Godley owns a 1-1 record and 3.38 ERA in eight career games (four starts) against the Dodgers.

WALK-OFFS

1. Goldschmidt's 28 home runs and 90 RBIs are the most by an active player against the Dodgers.

2. Dodgers C Yasmani Grandal went 3-for-6 with a two-run homer Monday and has recorded seven hits in his first 16 at-bats.

3. Arizona OF Yasmany Tomas cleared waivers and was sent outright to Triple-A Reno.

Texas Rangers vs. Oakland Athletics Preview and Predictions 04-03-2018

3rd April 2018 by Gracenote
The Oakland Athletics attempt to hand the Texas Rangers a fourth straight loss when they host their American League West rivals on Tuesday in the second contest of their four-game series. Oakland ended a three-game skid of its own on Monday as Jed Lowrie delivered a two-run double in the seventh inning to snap a tie and lead the club to a 3-1 victory.

Matt Chapman provided the other run for the Athletics, going deep in his second consecutive game to help the team post its first win since Opening Day. Matt Joyce likely will be rested Tuesday after serving as the designated hitter due to left ankle soreness. Texas was unable to record an extra-base hit in the series opener, collecting seven singles en route to its third defeat in a row. Shin-Soo Choo recorded two of them for the Rangers as he registered his second multi-hit performance in three contests.

TV: 10:05 p.m. ET, FS Southwest (Texas), NBCS California (Oakland)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Rangers LH Cole Hamels (0-1, 4.76 ERA) vs. Athletics RH Kendall Graveman (0-0, 9.00)

Hamels took the loss on Opening Day, allowing three runs on five hits and four walks in 5 2/3 innings against Houston. The 34-year-old native of San Diego served up a pair of homers but did record seven strikeouts, which was one shy of his season high in 2017. Hamels has made seven career starts against Oakland, going 2-3 with a 4.39 ERA.

Graveman escaped with a no-decision against the Los Angeles Angels in the season opener after surrendering five runs and seven hits - three homers - in five-plus innings. The 27-year-old from Alabama did not issue a walk but struck out only one batter. Graveman has posted a 4-2 record and 4.11 ERA in eight career starts against the Rangers.

WALK-OFFS

2. Athletics C Jonathan Lucroy is 6-for-15 with a homer and three RBIs against Hamels in his career while OF Khris Davis has belted three shots and driven in five runs versus the southpaw.

3. Texas OF Delino DeShields underwent surgery to repair a broken hamate bone in his left hand Monday and is expected to miss four-to-six weeks.

Brooklyn Nets vs. Philadelphia 76ers Preview and Predictions 04-03-2018

2nd April 2018 by Gracenote
The Philadelphia 76ers aim to produce their longest winning streak since in 28 years on Tuesday when they put a 10-game run on the line against the visiting Brooklyn Nets. The winning streak matches one from the start of the 2000-01 season and is two shy of the 12-game string that the 1989-90 team put together.

Ben Simmons continued to carry the load with Joel Embiid sidelined in the Sixers' 119-102 win at Charlotte on Sunday, finishing with 20 points and 15 assists as Philadelphia stayed within a half-game of Cleveland in the race for third place in the Eastern Conference. "We're having fun on the court and that's really important for us," guard Marco Belinelli told reporters after producing 22 points on 9-of-10 shooting. "For sure, we miss Joel out there on defense. But we know that everybody needs to step up and be aggressive on offense and defense and just play together." The Nets are beginning a three-game road trip as they play out the remainder of another losing season. They had won a respectable four of seven before falling 108-96 to Detroit on Sunday at home.

TV: 7 p.m. ET, YES (Brooklyn), NBCS Philadelphia

ABOUT THE NETS (25-52): Sunday's loss left Brooklyn 0-6 in games when it had a chance to record a three-game winning streak, and it offered little resistance at home against the Pistons. "[Coach Kenny Atkinson] challenged us to come off the road trip and get as prepared the most we can mentally, physically, before this game. We could've done better," guard D'Angelo Russell told reporters. "We never stopped the bleeding. We didn't make that shot or get that stop that we needed to stop the bleeding or that 50-50 play." Russell was benched in a win at Miami the previous night but returned to collect 13 points and seven assists in the loss.

ABOUT THE 76ERS (46-30): Belinelli is providing a nice boost off the bench with eight straight double-digit scoring efforts, shooting better than 50 percent in seven of those outings. Simmons has at least 10 assists in 10 of his past 11 games and is 22-of-35 from the floor over a three-game stretch. Simmons had 21 points, 12 assists and eight rebounds in a 120-116 win over Brooklyn last month as Philadelphia took a 2-1 season series lead.

BUZZER BEATERS

1. Nets SF DeMarre Carroll is 4-for-20 from the floor over the last two games.

2. Sixers SG JJ Redick has scored at least 19 points in four straight games to raise his season average to 16.6, which would be a career high.

3. The winning team has averaged 124.3 points over the last four matchups.

Toronto Raptors vs. Cleveland Cavaliers Preview and Predictions 04-03-2018

2nd April 2018 by Gracenote
The Cleveland Cavaliers are getting hot at a good time and seek their ninth victory in the past 10 games when they host the Toronto Raptors on Tuesday. Cleveland's revamped roster is finding a comfort zone as the Cavaliers are in third place in the Eastern Conference, a half-game ahead of the Philadelphia 76ers.

LeBron James is feeling good about Cleveland's postseason chances while fellow forward Kevin Love would like to see the Cavaliers reach the 50-victory mark. "I think we'd all like to get 50 wins," Love told reporters after Sunday's 98-87 victory over the Dallas Mavericks. "If we don't, it's not going to be the 'end-of-the-world' type of deal. It's something, especially with ups and downs of any season, it would be great to get over that hump." Toronto holds a two-game lead over Boston for the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference and the gap was narrowed when the Celtics posted a 110-99 victory over the Raptors on Saturday. Toronto needs to win just two of its final six games to set a new franchise mark for victories (56-26 in 2015-16).

TV: 7 p.m. ET, TSN (Toronto), FS Ohio (Cleveland)

ABOUT THE RAPTORS (55-21): Toronto has been a bit unsteady over the past two weeks with four losses in seven games but remaining on top in the East remains of paramount importance. "We want to win the Eastern Conference," All-Star shooting guard DeMar DeRozan told reporters. "That's our goal to fulfill that opportunity and we got to take advantage of it." DeRozan contributed 32 points, seven rebounds and seven assists in the loss to Boston and appears to have regained his shooting touch by going 19-of-31 over the past two games after struggling through a 17-of-49 stretch over the previous three contests.

ABOUT THE CAVALIERS (47-30): James experienced a porous shooting performance against the Mavericks when he was just 5-of-21 from the field while posting his 17th triple-double of the season with 16 points, 13 rebounds and 12 assists. "I missed four, five, maybe six layups, which I'm not accustomed to doing," James told reporters after the contest. "But me not shooting the ball well never stopped me making an impact on the game. So if I'm not shooting well, I gotta make sure I get my guys on time, on target with my passes and I gotta rebound and I gotta do other things to help us win and I was able to do that." Love had 13 points and 13 rebounds in the contest for his 30th double-double of this season and the 400th of his career.

BUZZER BEATERS

1. The teams split two meetings earlier this season, with the Raptors' win coming by a convincing 133-99 on Jan. 11 in Toronto.

2. Toronto was 8-of-35 from 3-point range against Boston to see its franchise-record streak of 17 straight games with 10 or more come to an end.

3. Cleveland PG George Hill (ankle) will likely miss his second straight game.

Orlando Magic vs. New York Knicks Preview and Predictions 04-03-2018

2nd April 2018 by Gracenote
A pair of teams playing out the string and suffering through three-game losing streaks meet Tuesday when the New York Knicks host the Orlando Magic. The Knicks dropped the opener of a five-game homestand with a 115-109 loss to Detroit on Saturday to fall to 18-19 at Madison Square Garden.

It gave the franchise four straight 50-loss campaigns in a row, tying its longest such run. "Not good. I'm a bad loser. Sore (loser)," forward Michael Beasley told reporters after scoring 32 points in the setback. "But at the same time, you have to be able to accept the situation." New York enters this one with a plethora of personnel issues, as Troy Williams is out for the season due to a fractured jaw suffered against the Pistons, center Enes Kanter (back, wrist) is doubtful, Beasley (illness) is questionable and three others are playing in the G League playoffs. The Magic head to Manhattan a half-game ahead of last-place Atlanta for the worst record in the Eastern Conference after losing to the Hawks 94-88 on Sunday.

TV: 7:30 p.m. ET, FS Florida (Orlando), MSG (New York)

ABOUT THE MAGIC (22-54): Orlando has averaged 85 points the past two games and it shot 34.4 percent from the floor in the loss to Atlanta. D.J. Augustin collected 20 points on 8-of-14 shooting while his fellow starters were a combined 14-of-49 from the floor as the Magic fell to 7-31 on the road. "We have to get out in transition," forward Aaron Gordon told reporters of the offensive woes. "It kills 75 percent of our offense if we don't get out in transition. ... It seemed a little out of rhythm out there."

ABOUT THE KNICKS (27-50): New York allowed an average of 116.7 points in regulation during the current losing streak as it continues its season-long issues on the defensive end. "The defensive intensity, I thought, dropped right there," coach Jeff Hornacek said Saturday of a spell that allowed Detroit to seize the lead for good in the third quarter. "They made a couple shots, but then it was making adjustments when the guys were coming in when they shouldn't. That happened a couple times late in the game. They had good intentions to help but that was probably not the right time to help and they got a couple kick-out threes." Guards Frank Ntilikina (illness) and Courtney Lee (foot) both missed the contest but are probable to return Tuesday.

BUZZER BEATERS

1. Magic SF Jonathon Simmons (wrist) will miss his seventh straight game.

2. Knicks PG Trey Burke averages 24.3 points and nine assists as a starter.

3. Orlando leads the all-time series 55-54.

Atlanta Hawks vs. Miami Heat Preview and Predictions 04-03-2018

2nd April 2018 by Gracenote
The Miami Heat are coming off the best scoring month in franchise history and look to continue that production when they attempt to clinch a playoff spot against the visiting Atlanta Hawks on Tuesday night in the first of a back-to-back. The Heat averaged 111.7 points in 16 games during March, but went 9-7 and failed in a chance to clinch Saturday in a 110-109 overtime loss at Brooklyn.

"Our team has been trending in that direction," Miami coach Erik Spoelstra told reporters of his team's offense. "I want the guys growing together and gaining confidence as the season goes on and it's happening at the right time and we're doing it the right way. Our assist numbers are up. We're sharing the ball. Guys are enjoying other players, their teammates' success. That's what it's all about." The Heat, who visit the Hawks on Wednesday, lead ninth-place Detroit by four games with five contests left and three of them are at home where they are 24-14. Atlanta snapped a five-game losing streak with a 94-88 victory over Orlando on Sunday to move within one-half game of the Magic in the race to avoid the cellar in the Eastern Conference. The Hawks will play the rest of the season without point guard and leading scorer Dennis Schroder (ankle), who is are averaging 19.4 points and 6.2 assists.

TV: 7:30 p.m. ET, FS Southeast (Atlanta), FS Sun (Miami)

ABOUT THE HAWKS (22-55): Rookie guard Tyler Dorsey, picked in the second round last June, scored a career-high 19 points on 8-of-11 shooting (3-of-5 from 3-point range) in Sunday's victory to raise his season average to 6.4. "When he gets a little bit of confidence, he has different ways of scoring," Atlanta coach Mike Budenholzer told reporters. "He has a knack for scoring. It was great to see that from him." Center Dewayne Dedmon registered his third straight double-double Sunday and is averaging 13.7 points along with 12.3 rebounds in that span.

ABOUT THE HEAT (41-36): Center Hassan Whiteside was fined an undisclosed amount by the team for his expletive-filled post game comments about playing time after Saturday's loss in his second game back from missing nine with a hip flexor injury. Whiteside left the game with 3:55 left in the third quarter after scoring 14 points in 20 minutes and did not return as Spoelstra went with a smaller lineup down the stretch. Power forward Kelly Olynyk has lifted his game of late, averaging 14.5 points the last four contests and draining 17-of-25 field goal attempts the past three.

BUZZER BEATERS

1. Miami G Goran Dragic, who leads the team in scoring (17.4) and assists (4.8), made 92.7 percent of his free throws in March.

2. Atlanta SF DeAndre' Bembry had four points and three assists Sunday after missing 16 games with an abdominal strain.

3. The teams have split their first two meetings this season with the Hawks taking the last matchup 110-104 on Dec. 18.

Boston Celtics vs. Milwaukee Bucks Preview and Predictions 04-03-2018

2nd April 2018 by Gracenote
The Boston Celtics have won six in a row and begin a crucial two-game road trip in their quest for the top spot in the Eastern Conference when they visit the Milwaukee Bucks on Tuesday. The Celtics are two games behind the first-place Toronto Raptors, whom they visit Wednesday to finish the back-to-back.

Boston defeated the Raptors 110-99 on Saturday at home to make the race for the No. 1 seed that much more interesting. "We have to see them twice in a week, and we know it's going to be a battle," guard Terry Rozier told reporters after scoring 21 points in the victory. "But I say we don't let the standings dictate anything. We just go out there and we play and we go to war. That's what happened tonight." Before the rematch, the Celtics must first contend with a Bucks squad that is on the verge of clinching a playoff berth and could finish as high as sixth in the East. Milwaukee won four of five and had Denver on the ropes Sunday before faltering down the stretch and dropping a 128-125 overtime affair.

TV: 8 p.m. ET, NBCS Boston, FS Wisconsin (Milwaukee)

ABOUT THE CELTICS (53-23): Rozier has filled in very well for the injured Kyrie Irving and Morris has taken his game to another level amid the team's many physical issues over the past month. The Kansas product is averaging 24 points on 61.2 percent shooting over his last four games while making 12-of-20 3-pointers. "Whatever they can do, we can do," Morris said of the matchups with the Raptors. "We just play hard. A couple guys stepped up. ... It was a good team win."

ABOUT THE BUCKS (41-36): Milwaukee has the talent to scare someone in the first round of the playoffs and it will be even more formidable if Jabari Parker plays anything like he did Sunday against Denver. In his 26th game since returning from a torn ACL, Parker had season highs of 35 points and 10 rebounds while making 14-of-23 shots in 39 minutes. "I think I was getting good looks," Parker told the media. "What helps is that my teammates help me out there and they constantly just try to keep me engaged. It's not fun just coming off the bench and playing spot minutes, but I thank them for staying with me."

BUZZER BEATERS

1. Rozier averages 18.6 points, 6.3 rebounds and five assists in 12 starts.

2. Bucks PF Giannis Antetokounmpo is averaging 35 points and 10.7 rebounds in the three games against the Celtics this season.

3. Boston took two of the first three meetings, including a 96-89 triumph in its one visit to Milwaukee on Oct. 26.

PREDICTION: Celtics 107, Bucks 104

Charlotte Hornets vs. Chicago Bulls Preview and Predictions 04-03-2018

2nd April 2018 by Gracenote
The Charlotte Hornets became the latest Eastern Conference team to be mathematically eliminated from the postseason race over the weekend after suffering three straight losses. The Hornets are embracing the player-development portion of the schedule through the end of the season and visit the Chicago Bulls on Tuesday.

Charlotte dropped a 119-102 decision at home to the Philadelphia 76ers on Sunday but ramped up the minutes for the likes of rookie Malik Monk and seldom-used second-year point guard Julyan Stone. "I thought Julyan Stone, for a guy who hasn't played really," Hornets coach Steve Clifford told reporters. "It's stuff you guys wouldn't see, but in terms of allowing people to execute his defense on both (Marco) Belinelli and (JJ) Redick was outstanding." The Bulls are no strangers to being out of the postseason race and continue to push their own player development but took some time out on Sunday to throw a wrench into the East standings by knocking off the playoff-bound Washington Wizards 113-94. Twelve different players logged at least 15 minutes as Chicago shot 52.4 percent from the floor in the victory.

TV: 8 p.m. ET, FS Southeast (Charlotte), NBCS Chicago

ABOUT THE HORNETS (33-44): All-Star guard Kemba Walker was limited to 26 minutes on Sunday as Charlotte expanded the minutes down the roster, allowing Stone and Monk to get more of an opportunity. While Stone made his presence felt on the defensive end, Monk contributed on the other side of the floor by scoring 16 points and burying four 3-pointers in 24 minutes. Center Willy Hernangomez picked up some extra minutes at the expense of veteran Dwight Howard and responded with 15 points and 11 rebounds in 22 minutes.

ABOUT THE BULLS (26-51): Veterans Robin Lopez and Justin Holiday combined to go 8-of-11 from the floor and each played 17 minutes, but it was the younger players doing the bulk of the damage in Sunday's triumph. Rookie forward Lauri Markkanen scored a team-high 23 points on 7-of-11 shooting and buried five 3-pointers while hauling in six rebounds in 25 minutes. Bobby Portis, 23, played just 16 minutes in the win but made his presence felt with 18 points to mark the 11th time in the last 12 games that he reached double figures.

BUZZER BEATERS

1. Bulls PG Kris Dunn (toe) sat out the last eight games and reportedly will be shut down for the remainder of the season.

2. Charlotte SG Nicolas Batum scored in single digits in each of the last four games after returning from an Achilles injury.

3. Chicago took two of the first three meetings this season, including a 123-120 home win on Nov. 17.

PREDICTION: Hornets 113, Bulls 106

Washington Wizards vs. Houston Rockets Preview and Predictions 04-03-2018

2nd April 2018 by Gracenote
The Houston Rockets already wrapped up the best record in franchise history and homecourt advantage throughout the playoffs, but they are not satisfied with how they are playing. The Rockets will try to bounce back from a rare loss when they host the slumping Washington Wizards on Tuesday.

Houston won 28 of its last 30 games but had an 11-game winning streak come to an end with a 100-83 loss at San Antonio on Sunday, causing coach Mike D'Antoni to declare an end to the process of resting players down the stretch. "That's why at the end of the year, you've got to be careful taking guys out and just resting them," D'Antoni told reporters. "Everybody wants rest, rest, rest. Well, they've got to play. Otherwise, we're going to lose the advantage of what you worked for for 80 games, and it's scary times for us. You've got to play. You've got to bring it, and you've got to bring it every day. We'll get it back." The Wizards would like to see the Rockets rest some of their stars as they attempt to recover from an embarrassing 113-94 loss to the lowly Chicago Bulls. "We made the playoffs, but are we just excited to have made the playoffs? That's a question we have to ask," Washington coach Scott Brooks told reporters. "We have to continue to focus on doing the things that are going to help us win in the playoffs. The good habits we talk about, we work on, but it wasn't displayed (Sunday)."

TV: 8 p.m. ET, NBCS Washington, AT&T SportsNet Southwest (Houston)

ABOUT THE WIZARDS (42-35): Washington played on Sunday like a team trying to avoid the No. 6 spot in the East and a possible first-round date with LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers. "Now it's all about matchups and who you want to play in the first round from now on," All-Star guard Bradley Beal told reporters. "We could either be playing somebody we want to play or playing a tough one in the first one, so regardless we've got to be better. But when you have the abilities to control your destiny a little bit, you've got to take advantage of them." The Wizards would draw the Boston Celtics or the Toronto Raptors in the first round if they slipped to the No. 7 or No. 8 spot.

ABOUT THE ROCKETS (62-15): Point guard Chris Paul sat out five of the last six games and superstar James Harden rested once last week, but both could be in the backcourt together again on Tuesday. "We've coasted these last few games," Harden told reporters. "It's time to amp it up a little bit. Just get our minds and our bodies right and get ready to go." Harden is just 6-of-40 from 3-point range over his last five games and committed five of the team's 10 turnovers in Sunday's setback.

BUZZER BEATERS

1. Rockets C Clint Capela went 3-of-7 from the floor on Friday and 3-of-9 on Sunday, marking the first time this season that he failed to hit at least 50 percent of his shot attempts in back-to-back games.

2. Wizards PG John Wall (knee) rested on the second night of a back-to-back Sunday but is expected to play Tuesday.

3. Washington knocked off Houston 121-103 at home on Dec. 29 behind 26 points from SF Otto Porter Jr.

Golden State Warriors vs. Oklahoma City Thunder Preview and Predictions 04-03-2018

2nd April 2018 by Gracenote
The Oklahoma City Thunder dropped three straight games by a total of eight points before figuring things out down the stretch on Sunday and snapping the slide with a 109-104 win over the New Orleans Pelicans. The Thunder will try to stay in the running for homecourt advantage in the first round of the playoffs and earn back-to-back wins when they host the Golden State Warriors on Tuesday.

Sunday's win pushed the Thunder into fifth place in the West, a half-game behind the fourth-place San Antonio Spurs but just a half-game ahead of the sixth-place Utah Jazz. "This is a huge win," Thunder forward Paul George told reporters after beating the Pelicans. "This is a great win, playing against an opponent who is in the same position for us. A must win for both teams. It was a step in the right direction for us to pick up a game like this on an opponent's floor." The Warriors are locked into the No. 2 spot in the West and are trying to find a rhythm again now that Kevin Durant (ribs), Klay Thompson (thumb) and Draymond Green (pelvic contusion) are back in the lineup together. Durant led the way in back-to-back wins while averaging 28 points, 10.5 rebounds and 6.5 assists against Sacramento and Phoenix.

TV: 8 p.m. ET, TNT

ABOUT THE WARRIORS (56-21): Thompson is playing with his thumb wrapped but it doesn't seem to be hampering his shooting stroke, and he is 20-of-38 from the floor over the last two games. Thompson and the rest of the Golden State offense is working through Durant with Stephen Curry (knee) still on the mend, and the All-Star forward is up for the challenge. "I felt like everyone came and contributed," Durant told reporters after Sunday's 117-107 triumph over Phoenix. "I don't think on this team there's one guy bossing everybody around and telling everyone what to do. I just think we're all working together. You see the ball moving four or five times in a possession."

ABOUT THE THUNDER (45-33): George is shooting just 33.3 percent from the floor over the last five games and was just 9-of-24 on Sunday but buried a key 3-pointer with just over a minute to play off a feed from Russell Westbrook. "It felt great, man, especially having a lot of easy and open looks that I was missing," George told reporters. "It felt good to have a shot to close the game out. It's just trying to stay consistent with it, the rhythm and getting good looks." Westbrook recorded a triple-double with 26 points, 15 rebounds and 13 assists on Sunday and broke out of his own shooting slump by going 9-of-17 from the floor.

BUZZER BEATERS

1. Thunder SF Jerami Grant is 10-of-14 from the floor over the last two games.

2. Warriors SF Andre Iguodala (knee) missed the last two games and is day-to-day.

3. Golden State took the most recent meeting, 112-80 at home on Feb. 24, but dropped the first two matchups this season.

Portland Trail Blazers vs. Dallas Mavericks Preview and Predictions 04-03-2018

2nd April 2018 by Gracenote
The Portland Trail Blazers are headed to the playoffs for the fifth straight season and their focus has turned to securing the No. 3 seed in the Western Conference playoffs. The Trail Blazers hold a three-game lead over the San Antonio Spurs with five to play as they open a four-game road trip with Tuesday's contest against the Dallas Mavericks.

Portland has been on a scintillating eight-week stretch in which it has compiled a 19-4 record and the club took time to enjoy the clinching after Sunday's 113-98 win over the Memphis Grizzlies. "Clinching the playoffs, being in the playoffs five straight years is a good accomplishment; it's one of our goals at the beginning of the season," Trail Blazers coach Terry Stotts told reporters afterward. "We still have some more goals to accomplish, but it's something everybody should be proud of." Dallas is suffering through a porous campaign and is limping toward the finish with three straight losses and eight in the past nine games. The Mavericks fell 98-87 to the Cleveland Cavaliers on Sunday and failed to reach 100 points for the fourth time in the last five contests.

TV: 8:30 p.m. ET, NBCS Northwest (Portland), FS Southwest (Dallas)

ABOUT THE TRAIL BLAZERS (48-29): Portland's extended roll has the franchise in position to get a breather and rest some players instead of battling to get into the postseason up until the season's final days. "I think for our stress level, we don't have to go down to the wire to get a playoff spot," All-Star guard Damian Lillard told reporters. "Now we're just looking to stay sharp, keep doing the things that have allowed us to have the success that we've had, and try to finish it off and win the division, get home court." Lillard averaged 30 points and six assists in two games against Dallas this season, and his 26.7 scoring average helped fuel the Trail Blazers to score 100 or more points in 20 straight games, the club's longest single-season mark since a 42-game run during the 1989-90 campaign.

ABOUT THE MAVERICKS (23-54): Veteran Dirk Nowitzki is playing through knee and ankle ailments but the player who turns 40 in June has started a team-leading 76 games, and that impresses Dallas coach Rick Carlisle. "He's another guy that's just so extremely meticulous with his approach," Carlisle told reporters. "He changed his diet about 12 years ago or 13 years ago and went to very specific kinds of foods. Drinking a lot of water. There's a level of consistency there that is amazing." Nowitzki no longer is a star averaging more than 20 points per game but remains a solid contributor by averaging 12 points and 5.7 rebounds.

BUZZER BEATERS

1. The Trail Blazers won this season's first two meetings and are looking to sweep the Mavericks for the first time since going 3-0 against them in the 1998-99 season.

2. Dallas F Harrison Barnes scored 30 points versus Cleveland to reach at least 30 for the fourth time this season.

3. Portland PF Al-Farouq Aminu had 17 points and 10 rebounds against Memphis for his ninth double-double of the season, one off his career high set in 2012-13.

PREDICTION: Trail Blazers 104, Mavericks 101

Indiana Pacers vs. Denver Nuggets Preview and Predictions 04-03-2018

3rd April 2018 by Gracenote
The Denver Nuggets used a stunning comeback in the final minute of regulation on Sunday to force overtime in a win over Milwaukee, keeping them in the race for a playoff spot in the Western Conference. The Nuggets will try to keep the pressure on the teams above them in the standings and post a third consecutive victory when they host the Indiana Pacers on Tuesday.

Denver is sitting in the No. 9 spot in the West, one game behind eighth-place New Orleans, after rallying from an eight-point deficit in the final minute and winning its second straight overtime contest. "You keep playing," Nuggets point guard Jamal Murray told reporters. "You play until there are all zeroes on the clock. There's always a chance, and if you want to be a championship-type team, you have to play to the end. You can't give up and say, 'It's over now,' or give in to the situation. You've got to make the situation happen." The Pacers just finished beating one Western Conference team with playoff aspirations, posting a 111-104 road win over the Los Angeles Clippers on Sunday. Indiana has won its last five games to move into the No. 5 spot in the East, one-half game behind fourth-place Philadelphia, and looks to complete a sweep of its four-game road trip on Tuesday.

TV: 9 p.m. ET, FS Indiana, Altitude (Denver)

ABOUT THE PACERS (46-31): All-Star guard Victor Oladipo was named the Eastern Conference Player of the Week for the third time this season on Monday after averaging 26 points in three games. Oladipo capped the week by scoring 30 points on 11-of-17 shooting against the Clippers and adding a season-high 12 assists. "My teammates did a great job of stepping up and doing great things today, making shots," Oladipo told reporters. "Darren Collison has been great down the stretch, and Myles (Turner) played awesome. (Thaddeus Young), and Bojan (Bogdanovic) hit a big shot down the stretch as well. It's huge for us when guys step up and play like that, so we're really good when we do that."

ABOUT THE NUGGETS (42-35): Murray scored 18 of his 27 points on Sunday in the fourth quarter and overtime, and he made the key offensive and defensive plays at the end of regulation when he stole an inbounds pass, was fouled while shooting a 3-pointer and made all three free throws with 2.8 seconds remaining. "No pressure. That's my favorite shot," Murray told reporters of the free throws. "I talk about meditation and being calm and composed and all that - I couldn't wait to go up to the line and hit them." Star center Nikola Jokic is stepping up as well, as he has averaged 29 points and 15 rebounds over his last three games.

BUZZER BEATERS

1. Turner scored 24 points on Sunday, snapping a string of four straight games in single digits.

2. Nuggets SF Wilson Chandler (nasal fracture) sat out Sunday and is day-to-day.

3. Indiana beat Denver at home 126-116 in overtime on Dec. 10 behind 47 points from Oladipo.

Los Angeles Lakers vs. Utah Jazz Preview and Predictions 04-03-2018

2nd April 2018 by Gracenote
The Utah Jazz have their sights on a playoff berth as they look to continue their recent domination of the visiting Los Angeles Lakers on Tuesday. Utah, which is in sixth place in the Western Conference, will be seeking its sixth straight victory over the Lakers.

The Jazz won 25 of their past 30 games and are just one game behind the fourth-place San Antonio Spurs but also just two games clear of the ninth-place Denver Nuggets in the tightly packed race. "It's been amazing," Utah coach Quin Snyder told reporters after Sunday's 121-97 road trouncing of the Minnesota Timberwolves. "You can move up four spots in one game, or you can move down four spots. There's so much pressure on you every time you play." The Lakers dropped seven of their last nine games and just posted their second-lowest scoring output of the season in Sunday's 84-83 setback against the Sacramento Kings. "We are going to have to play a lot better for the remainder of the season," Los Angeles coach Luke Walton told reporters after the loss. "We have some really good teams coming in town that are playing for something pretty significant. We are going to have to elevate our game a lot, or it is going to be a long six games to end the season."

TV: 9 p.m. ET, Spectrum Sports Net (Los Angeles), AT&T SportsNet Rocky Mountain (Utah)

ABOUT THE LAKERS (33-43): Los Angeles looked like a team with little to play for when it never got the offense untracked in the loss to the Kings. Being without point guard Lonzo Ball (knee) and small forward Brandon Ingram (concussion) didn't help - it is possible that Ball is cleared to play against Utah - but rookie small forward Kyle Kuzma is aware a better effort needs to be made. "We just got to bring it," Kuzma told reporters. "We are playing playoff teams, a lot of teams fighting for seeding, so they are going to try to pound us. We just got to fight back and bring our 'A' game."

ABOUT THE JAZZ (44-33): Utah's dismantling of Minnesota on Sunday was a solid step toward reaching the playoffs and it left standout center Rudy Gobert feeling giddy. "It's a win over a direct playoff competitor," Gobert told reporters after the triumph. "That was big for us. They are all big at this point, but this one was especially big." Standout guard Donovan Mitchell tallied 20 or more points in nine consecutive contests, the best stretch by a rookie guard since Allen Iverson rolled off 11 straight during the 1996-97 season.

BUZZER BEATERS

1. The Jazz won eight of the past nine meetings, including a 96-81 home victory on Oct. 28.

2. Los Angeles PF Julius Randle is averaging 23 points over the past 11 games.

3. Utah PG Ricky Rubio scored 23 points against his former Minnesota teammates and tallied 20 or more in four of his past six outings.

PREDICTION: Utah 104, Los Angeles 93

Sacramento Kings vs. Phoenix Suns Preview and Predictions 04-03-2018

2nd April 2018 by Gracenote
The Phoenix Suns are running out of time to snap a long losing streak but they may have their best remaining chance to do so when the Sacramento Kings pay a visit to Arizona on Tuesday. The Suns' 15-game slide is a team record and has them on a verge of clinching the worst record in the NBA.

Breaking into the win column has proven difficult without leading scorer Devin Booker, who has missed eight straight games with a hand issue and is listed as questionable for this one. Phoenix put up an admirable fight while visiting Western Conference heavyweights Houston and Golden State, falling on a buzzer-beater at the Rockets and then dropping a 117-110 decision against the Warriors on Sunday. "I think our guys compete well for young guys playing against this team," Suns interim coach Jay Triano told reporters in Oakland. The Kings are also giving their young players plenty of experience down the stretch and one of them - Buddy Hield - has heated up, scoring 19 points to lead his team to an 84-83 win over the Los Angeles Lakers on Sunday.

TV: 10 p.m. ET, NBCS California (Sacramento), FS Arizona (Phoenix)

ABOUT THE KINGS (25-53): Hield has scored at least 19 points in eight of his last nine games and is 11-of-17 from 3-point range over a three-game stretch as he continues to lead the second unit. "We have a lot of energy and we try to build off the (starters)," Hield told the media after Sacramento's bench outscored Los Angeles' reserves 37-19. "If they bring energy or not, we try to capitalize." Bogdan Bogdanovic led the starters with 15 points on 6-of-7 shooting.

ABOUT THE SUNS (19-59): Josh Jackson has become the go-to guy with Booker and TJ Warren (knee) both sidelined, and the rookie out of Kansas averaged 24.5 points on the 0-2 road trip. Troy Daniels had been providing solid support on the offensive end but was limited to two points in 18 minutes before aggravating an ankle injury against the Warriors. "When Troy went down we lost all of our experience, four years of experience," Triano - who gave 222 of the 240 available minutes to first- or second-year players - told reporters.

BUZZER BEATERS

1. Suns PF Marquese Chriss averages 7.5 points but has scored in double figures in eight straight games.

2. Kings PG De'Aaron Fox is 1-for-19 from beyond the arc over a span of 10 contests.

3. Phoenix took two of the first three meetings.

PREDICTION: Kings 112, Suns 110

Detroit Red Wings vs. Columbus Blue Jackets Preview and Predictions 04-03-2018

2nd April 2018 by Gracenote
With only three games remaining, the Columbus Blue Jackets' future regarding the postseason still is unclear as they prepare to host the Detroit Red Wings on Tuesday night. Columbus occupies third place in the Metropolitan Division but ultimately could finish second, in a wild-card spot or out of the playoffs in the muddled Eastern Conference.

The Blue Jackets trail second-place Pittsburgh by two points with a game in hand, are even with top wild card Philadelphia and lead second wild card New Jersey by one point as they gear up for their penultimate home game of the regular season. The club completed a 2-0-1 road trip Saturday with a 5-4 overtime loss at Vancouver in which Artemi Panarin and defenseman Seth Jones each posted four-point performances. Panarin set up all four goals for Columbus, giving him eight points over his last three games and a team-leading - and career high-tying - 77 on the season. The Red Wings, who will be playoff spectators for the second straight campaign following a 25-season participation streak, aim for their fourth straight victory as they play their final road game of 2017-18.

TV: 7 p.m. ET, FS Detroit, FS Ohio (Columbus)

ABOUT THE RED WINGS (30-38-11): Dylan Larkin leads the team with a career-high 59 points, nine of which he has registered over his last seven contests. Captain Henrik Zetterberg has scored just one goal in his last 18 games for Detroit, which endured a 1-12-1 slump prior to its current winning streak. Anthony Mantha tops the club with 24 goals but has recorded just one in his last 13 contests.

ABOUT THE BLUE JACKETS (44-29-6): Columbus earned the point in Vancouver by scoring three times in the final 3:58 of the third period to erase a 4-1 deficit and force overtime. Jones recorded a goal and three assists to give him 54 points and eclipse the franchise record for a defenseman set in 2013-14, when James Wisniewski notched 51. Blue-liner Markus Nutivaara could miss the game against Detroit as the 23-year-old Finn exited Saturday's contest in the second period with an upper-body strain.

OVERTIME

1. Blue Jackets RW Cam Atkinson is riding a seven-game point streak (five goals, five assists) and has collected 11 goals and 11 assists over his last 18 contests.

2. Detroit LW Justin Abdelkader is mired in a seven-game goal-scoring drought, keeping him one shy of 100 for his career, while D Danny DeKeyser needs one point to reach the century mark.

3. Columbus has a showdown at home with Pittsburgh on Thursday before concluding the season at league-leading Nashville two nights later.

Philadelphia Flyers vs. New York Islanders Preview and Predictions 04-03-2018

2nd April 2018 by Gracenote
An eight-game point streak (5-0-3) has powered the Philadelphia Flyers to the cusp of a return to the playoffs after missing the NHL's second season in 2016-17. The surging Flyers head into the last road game of their season on Tuesday looking to ascend in the Metropolitan Division by defeating the cellar-dwelling New York Islanders.

Captain Claude Giroux capped a two-goal performance by scoring on a breakaway with 1:21 remaining in overtime of Sunday's 4-3 win over Boston, moving Philadelphia within two points of second-place Pittsburgh while residing behind Columbus based on the fourth tiebreaker. "That's one thing we can't do, look up at the standings. We just have to worry about our next game here," said Giroux, who has posted career highs in goals (29) and points (95) - with one and five, respectively, coming in three games versus the Islanders. New York didn't do Philadelphia any favors on Saturday, as it dropped a 4-3 decision to New Jersey for its 16th loss in 19 games (3-12-4). Anthony Beauvillier has scored in three straight contests and five times in his last six to creep within one of the 20-goal plateau.

TV: 7 p.m. ET, NBCS Philadelphia Plus, MSG Plus 2 (New York)

ABOUT THE FLYERS (40-25-14): Travis Konecny is a confident kid, likely bolstered by scoring six times in his eight games as well as Philadelphia's 16-6-6 mark in its last 28 contests. "I think we're confident as a team that we'll be able to play anybody. I don't really think we look at matchups," the 21-year-old Konecny told Philly.com after he scored his 24th goal in highlight-reel fashion on Sunday - the most by a Flyers player 21-or-younger since Simon Gagne netted 33 at age 21 in 2001-02. Konecny also tallied in Philadelphia's 6-4 win over New York on Jan. 4.

ABOUT THE ISLANDERS (32-37-10): Rookie Mathew Barzal reached the 20-goal total on March 20 and has set up four tallies in his last six games to boost his season total to a team-leading 59 assists. Barzal has scored two goals and set up two others versus Philadelphia this season and captain John Tavares also has four points (one goal, three assists) in the season series to raise his club-best total this season to 81. New York's 31st-ranked penalty kill has permitted seven power-play goals in the last six games overall and three versus Philadelphia in the last encounter.

OVERTIME

1. Philadelphia D Ivan Provorov, who scored two goals and set up another in the last meeting versus New York, has recorded back-to-back multi-point performances during his three-game point streak.

2. The Islanders have posted a 9-18-2 mark in their last 29 games at Barclays Center after notching an 8-0-2 record at home to open the season.

3. Flyers RW Jakub Voracek has one goal and four assists versus New York this season.

New York Rangers vs. New Jersey Devils Preview and Predictions 04-03-2018

2nd April 2018 by Gracenote
Taylor Hall is riding high on the strength of yet another pronounced point streak to put the New Jersey Devils on the cusp of their first playoff appearance since 2011-12. Hall carries an eight-game point streak (six goals, seven assists) into Tuesday's tilt versus the visiting New York Rangers, who have dropped six of their last eight as they prepare to miss the NHL's second season for the first time since 2009-10.

Hall scored New Jersey's NHL-best 12th short-handed goal late in the third period of Sunday's 2-1 win over Montreal, improving the Devils to 5-0-1 in their last six and moving them within one point of third-place Columbus and Philadelphia in the Metropolitan Division. "I scored a shortie. I'm not much of a shorthanded threat, but it's nice to get one," said the 26-year-old Hall, who has been quite the threat by denting the scoresheet in 35 of his last 38 contests to push his career-high totals in goals (37) and points (89). While New Jersey bids for a postseason berth, New York made certain that Carolina was removed from the picture with a 2-1 triumph on Saturday. Kevin Hayes, who scored a short-handed goal versus the Hurricanes to extend his point streak to three games, joins teammate Jimmy Vesey with two tallies in three meetings this season with New Jersey.

TV: 7 p.m. ET, MSG Plus, MSG 2

ABOUT THE RANGERS (34-36-9): Mats Zuccarello (undisclosed) and Jesper Fast (groin) are expected to miss the final three games of the season, coach Alain Vigneault told reporters on Monday. "He blocked a couple of shots the last couple games," Vigneault said of the 30-year-old Zuccarello, who leads the team in both assists (36) and points (52). The 26-year-old Fast had been heating up with 12 points (three goals, nine assists) in his last 12 contests.

ABOUT THE DEVILS (42-28-9): Nico Hischier, whose 51 points trail only Hall for top honors on the team, scored his 19th goal of the season on Sunday to move into fourth-place ties on a pair of franchise rookie lists. The top overall pick of the 2017 NHL draft, Hischier pulled even with Scott Gomez (1999-2000) for the fourth-most goals while his 51 points matched Adam Henrique (2011-12). "It's not just one guy, it's the whole team that believes," said Hischier, who opted to talk about team accomplishments. "We stick (together) for each other and battle for each other."

OVERTIME

1. New Jersey G Keith Kinkaid, who is a New York native, has started six in a row and owns a sterling 14-3-1 mark since Feb. 13.

2. The Rangers have collected at least one point in 18 of their last 23 meetings (14-5-4) with the Devils.

3. Tuesday's game features the last two Hobey Baker Award winners in Vesey (2015-16, Harvard) and New Jersey D Will Butcher (2016-17, Denver).

PREDICTION: Devils 4, Rangers 2

Nashville Predators vs. Florida Panthers Preview and Predictions 04-03-2018

2nd April 2018 by Gracenote
The Nashville Predators rebounded from a poor performance with a brilliant one and can clinch the Central Division title by completing a sweep of the Sunshine State portion of their road trip when they visit the Florida Panthers on Tuesday. The Predators gave up four power-play goals en route to a loss at home to NHL-worst Buffalo on Saturday before going on the road to knock off Tampa Bay 4-1 just 24 hours later.

"I thought it was great," Nashville coach Peter Laviolette told reporters after Sunday's win. "I think the guys played smart, and that's all on them. They had a meeting. They weren't happy with it and they straightened it out. They played a smart, hard game, especially with the turnaround." The Predators lead Winnipeg by five points with three games remaining as they prepare to face Florida, which is hanging on in the race for the second wild card in the Eastern Conference. The Panthers stayed alive with a 3-2 home victory over Carolina on Monday, moving within five points of New Jersey for the final playoff spot with one game in hand, but three of their final four contests are against the top two teams in the league in points (Nashville, Boston twice). "The boys know it's do or die, but we're not going to go without a fight," Florida defenseman MacKenzie Weegar told the Sun Sentinel. "We know what's at stake here and we've worked too hard this year to go easy."

TV: 7:30 p.m. ET, FS Tennessee (Nashville), FS Florida

ABOUT THE PREDATORS (51-17-11): Filip Forsberg has produced back-to-back three-point performances to take over the team lead with 61 - one more than Viktor Arvidsson, who missed Sunday's game and is day-to-day with a lower-body injury. "When he's going, he's a big-time threat out there," center Ryan Johansen told the Tennessean regarding Forsberg. "Great time for him to start ramping his game up. ... He's a motivated player right now." Craig Smith scored his 23rd goal on Sunday to forge a tie for second on the team and pull within one of the career high he set in 2013-14.

ABOUT THE PANTHERS (40-30-8): Aleksander Barkov set up a pair of goals in Monday's win to push his team-leading total to 77 points - five more than Vincent Trocheck, who notched an assist against Carolina. Evgenii Dadonov scored for the fourth time in five games Monday to increase his total to 27 goals, second only to Trocheck (30), while defenseman Alex Petrovic netted his second tally of the season to snap a 2-2 tie. Roberto Luongo made 27 saves against the Hurricanes to post his 469th career victory in his 998th NHL appearance after losing four of his previous five starts.

OVERTIME

1. Panthers D Keith Yandle has recorded two goals and six assists in his last eight games, pulling within four of his career high of 59 points set in 2010-11.

2. The Predators have converted two of their six power-play chances over the last two games after going 2-for-41 in their previous 12 contests.

3. Nashville defeated Florida 4-3 on Jan. 20 behind two goals from LW Kevin Fiala and three points from C Nick Bonino.

Winnipeg Jets vs. Montreal Canadiens Preview and Predictions 04-03-2018

3rd April 2018 by Gracenote
The Winnipeg Jets are proving they won't be a pushover when they make their second playoff appearance in seven seasons since relocating from Atlanta. Winnipeg aims for its ninth win in 10 contests - and 50th overall - Tuesday as it faces off against the Montreal Canadiens in its final road game of the regular season.

Winnipeg occupies second place in the Central Division but still has an outside shot at the crown as it trails first-place Nashville by five points with three games remaining. The Jets improved to 2-1-0 on their four-game trek on Monday as they outlasted Ottawa 6-5 behind a pair of goals from Blake Wheeler. The 31-year-old captain has landed on the scoresheet in nine of his last 10 contests, collecting four tallies and nine assists in that span, and hasn't been held without a point in consecutive games since Jan. 23 and 25. Montreal, which will be playing at home for the final time this season, looks to avoid a third straight loss after dropping a 2-1 decision to New Jersey on Sunday.

TV: 7:30 p.m. ET, TSN3 (Winnipeg), TSN2, RDS (Montreal)

ABOUT THE JETS (49-20-10): Connor Hellebuyck posted his 42nd victory of the season Monday despite allowing five goals, tying Tampa Bay's Andrei Vasilevskiy for the league lead. Patrik Laine avoided the sophomore jinx this season as his 68 points eclipse the total from his fantastic rookie campaign (64) while he ranks second in the league with 43 goals. The 19-year-old Finn is in the midst of a slump, however, as he has been held without a point in seven consecutive contests.

ABOUT THE CANADIENS (28-39-12): Carey Price put his name in the franchise record book Sunday as he appeared in his 556th game, tying Jacques Plante for first place among Montreal goaltenders. "It's a legendary name," Price told reporters. "Being able to be spoken of in the same breath as him is quite humbling." The 30-year-old Price, who is a former Hart and Vezina Trophy winner, is three wins away from pulling even with Patrick Roy (289) for second place on the team list and 28 shy of matching Plante for first.

OVERTIME

1. Jets C Paul Stastny has registered 11 points in 16 games since being acquired from St. Louis, giving him his first 50-point season (51) since notching 60 in 2013-14 with Colorado.

2. Montreal D Mike Reilly, who appeared in his 100th NHL game on Sunday, has notched an assist in three straight contests.

3. Winnipeg D Sami Niku hopes to make his NHL debut against the Canadiens after being a healthy scratch on Monday - one day after being recalled from Manitoba of the American Hockey League.

Boston Bruins vs. Tampa Bay Lightning Preview and Predictions 04-03-2018

2nd April 2018 by Gracenote
The Tampa Bay Lightning could be without their captain when they host the first-place Boston Bruins Tuesday night for what may be the decisive Atlantic Division showdown. Steven Stamkos, who is second on the team with 86 points, suffered a lower-body injury in Sunday's 4-1 loss to Nashville and is questionable for Tuesday while the Lightning hold out hope he could play before the end of the regular season.

Tampa Bay missed an opportunity to set a franchise record for points in a season and to tie the Bruins for first place with the setback Sunday - its fourth in five contests - and managed five goals in its last four losses. Boston has a two-point lead with four games to go - one more than the Lightning - and has earned at least a point in nine straight outings (5-0-4), including two wins over Tampa Bay in that stretch. The Bruins scored in the final seconds to tie before losing 4-3 in overtime at Philadelphia on Sunday, but gained a valuable point on the second of a tough back-to-back. "We're proud of the way we battled and got that extra point from that situation towards the end," Boston captain Zdeno Chara told reporters Sunday. "It's a battle and we kept the puck in and we got rewarded, so obviously everybody was pretty happy about that comeback."

TV: 7:30 p.m. ET, NBC Sports Network, Sportsnet One, TVA, NESN (Boston)

ABOUT THE BRUINS (49-17-12): Special teams have played a big part in the team's streak as the power play is 6-for-11 in the last four games and the penalty kill is 21-for-22 over the past nine contests. Chara, a former Norris Trophy winner, returned to the lineup for the first time in almost three weeks Sunday and Boston could get talented rookie defenseman Charlie McAvoy (knee) back for the first time since March 3 on Tuesday. Wing David Pastrnak has five goals and eight of his 78 points in the last six games while center Patrice Bergeron owns seven points in five games since his return from injured reserve.

ABOUT THE LIGHTNING (52-23-4): Coach Jon Cooper reshuffled the lines without Stamkos at practice Monday with Brayden Point (30 goals, 64 points) centering leading scorer Nikita Kucherov (38, 97) and Ondrej Palat, who scored the only goal Sunday. Right wing Ryan Callahan returned to the lineup Sunday and versatile forward Cory Conacher is likely to take Stamkos' spot if the center can't go. Andrei Vasilevskiy (.919 save percentage) shares the league lead with a franchise-record 42 wins, but is just 2-5-0 in his last seven and has allowed at least three goals in nine of his past 10 appearances.

OVERTIME

1. The Bruins have won eight of the last nine meetings with the Lightning, including all three this season by a combined score of 10-4.

2. Tampa Bay D Victor Hedman is one goal from equaling his career high of 16 and has 11 of his 60 points in the last 10 contests.

3. Boston LW Brad Marchand, who leads the team with 84 points, was fined $5,000 for his cross check on Philadelphia's D Andrew MacDonald on Sunday.

Arizona Coyotes vs. Calgary Flames Preview and Predictions 04-03-2018

2nd April 2018 by Gracenote
The Arizona Coyotes are playing like a team that is steamrolling toward the postseason - not one that was long ago eliminated from playoff contention - as they visit the Calgary Flames on Tuesday. Arizona, which started 0-10-1 and was 12-32-9, is 16-8-2 since Feb. 7 after dominating playoff-hopeful St. Louis 6-0 on Saturday - the latest sign that the Coyotes intend to finish the campaign strong and carry plenty of momentum into 2018-19.

"They've bought in. I've got to give a lot of guys credit for that," Coyotes coach Rick Tocchet told reporters. "It's easy when you're out of the playoffs to give up, and we haven't given up." Calgary snapped a seven-game losing streak with a 3-2 victory over Edmonton on Saturday as it wraps up a disappointing campaign without the likes of front-line players such as Sean Monahan, Matthew Tkachuk and defenseman T.J. Brodie, who are shut down for the season. "It's been hard on our guys emotionally,'' Flames coach Glen Gulutzan told reporters. "I felt today they looked a little bit like themselves. That's what I felt this morning and that's what showed here in the game." Calgary won the first two of four meetings this season, 3-0 and 5-2, behind a combined three goals from Mark Jankowski before Arizona recorded a 5-2 victory March 19 when Max Domi and Oliver Ekman-Larsson each scored twice.

TV: 9 p.m. ET, FS Arizona Plus, Sportsnet West (Calgary)

ABOUT THE COYOTES (28-40-11): Antti Raanta (20-16-6, 2.27 goals-against average, .929 save percentage) was named the NHL's second star of the week and is 8-1-0, 1.34, .956 in his past nine games, with Saturday's shutout his second during that span. Clayton Keller (team highs of 23 goals, 63 points) is finishing his rookie season strong with six goals and 19 points in March, recording at least a point in 14 of 17 games this month. Derek Stepan (club-most 42 assists, 55 points) has a goal and nine assists in his last eight games.

ABOUT THE FLAMES (36-33-10): Johnny Gaudreau (team highs of 82 points and 59 assists) returned Saturday after missing two games to be with his ailing father, and hasn't recorded a point in three straight contests for only the third time this season. Spencer Foo had a shot on goal in 12 minutes, 45 seconds of ice time in his NHL debut Saturday. Former Coyote Mike Smith snapped a five-game losing streak in which he posted a 4.40 goals-against average and .865 save percentage by making 34 saves versus Edmonton while Dougie Hamilton scored his 17th goal - most among NHL defensemen.

OVERTIME

1. Arizona is 5-1-1 in its last seven games versus the Pacific Division after winning only four of its first 19 such contests (4-10-5).

2. Calgary is 1-for-47 on the power play in its last 16 games, including 0-for-29 in the last 11 contests.

3. Coyotes C Christian Dvorak (15 goals, 37 assists) missed his first game of the season Saturday because of a lower-body injury.

Vegas Golden Knights vs. Vancouver Canucks Preview and Predictions 04-03-2018

2nd April 2018 by Gracenote
The Vegas Golden Knights look to continue their momentum after wrapping up the Pacific Division title when they open a three-game road trip against the Vancouver Canucks and Henrik and Deniel Sedin on Tuesday in their second-to-last home game. The Sedin twins, who have combined for 2,106 points in 2,630 career games, announced Monday they would retire at the end this season and play their final home game Thursday against Arizona.

"We started the year with the mindset that a decision would be made in the postseason," the Sedins said in a letter to Canucks fans. "But it became clear, after discussions with our families throughout the year, that this will be our last season. This feels right for all of us." The 37-year olds have helped Vancouver build a season high-tying four-game winning streak, but the Canucks have not had much luck against Vegas - getting outscored 15-6 in three losses. The expansion Golden Knights clinched the division title with a 3-2 win over San Jose on Saturday in their final home game of the season and are 5-1-2 in their last eight outings. "It's all about the points," coach Gerard Gallant told the the Las Vegas Review-Journal. "You never know what the scenario is going to be down the road so let's win as many games as we can. We'll see what happens and try to keep our guys fresh and ready to go. I'm confident that our team is going to be ready, no matter what, the next three games."

TV: 10 p.m. ET, AT&T Rocky Mountain (Vegas), Sportsnet Pacific (Vancouver)

ABOUT THE GOLDEN KNIGHTS (50-22-7): Vegas hopes to have forwards David Perron (undisclosed) and Reilly Smith (shoulder) back at some point during the trip that includes stops in Edmonton and Calgary. Perron is third on the team with a career-high 66 points and Smith is fourth with a career-best 60 while center Erik Haula needs one goal to reach 30 for the first time. William Karlsson leads the league with a plus-46 rating and shares the top spot on the team with fellow forward Jonathan Marchessault at 75 points after posting nine in the last four games.

ABOUT THE CANUCKS (30-40-9): Daniel Sedin has four assists in the last six games and sits three away from catching injured rookie Brock Boeser (55) for the team lead in points. Captain Henrik Sedin needs two points to reach 50 for the 12th straight full season while center Bo Horvat scored his career-best 21st goal and added an assist in Saturday's victory. Jacob Markstrom is 4-0-0 in his last four starts, giving up five goals combined, and Thatcher Demko got the win in his NHL debut against Columbus after making 26 saves.

OVERTIME

1. Vegas G Marc-Andre Fleury (29-12-4, 2.14 goals-against, .931 save percentage) can reach 30 wins for the ninth time.

2. Vancouver F Adam Gaudette, who led the NCAA in scoring this season, registered five shots on net and no points in his first two NHL games.

3. The Golden Knights have killed off 25-of-26 power-play opportunities over the last nine contests.

Dallas Stars vs. San Jose Sharks Preview and Predictions 04-03-2018

2nd April 2018 by Gracenote
The San Jose Sharks were on the fast track toward the postseason with eight straight wins before stumbling in their last three outings to conclude a four-game road trip. The Sharks needed help Monday to clinch their 13th playoff berth in 14 years and look to regain their footing versus the Dallas Stars in the opener of a season-ending three-game homestand on Tuesday.

Captain Joe Pavelski (team co-leading 63 points) collected a goal and an assist in San Jose's 3-2 setback on Saturday, a result that allowed expansion Vegas to add another chapter in its storybook season. The 33-year-old Pavelski traditionally has tormented Dallas to the tune of 46 points (20 goals, 26 assists) in 55 career encounters, with a goal and two assists coming in the Sharks' 5-2 win over the Stars on Feb. 18. While San Jose is fending off fellow California contingents Anaheim and Los Angeles for second place in the Pacific, an eight-game winless skid last month all but effectively ended Dallas' bid for the postseason. The Stars' road woes did them no favors as well, as the club has dropped eight straight to plummet to 14-19-5 away from American Airlines Center.

TV: 10:30 p.m. ET, Sportsnet One, FS Southwest Plus (Dallas), NBCS California Plus (San Jose)

ABOUT THE STARS (40-31-8): John Klingberg scored and set up a goal in Saturday's 4-1 victory over Minnesota, with the assist giving him a league-best 56 among defensemen while his 64 points trail only Washington's John Carlson in that department. The 25-year-old Swede has powered Dallas' 19th-ranked power play with 23 points (one goal, 22 assists), with one assist coming with the man advantage in a 6-0 rout of San Jose on New Year's Eve. Tyler Pitlick scored twice in that contest and also tallied in a 5-2 setback on Feb. 18, but has just three goals since then.

ABOUT THE SHARKS (44-25-10): Logan Couture leads San Jose with 32 goals but owns just one in his last five outings overall and has failed to dent the scoresheet in two encounters with Dallas this season. Former Norris Trophy winner Brent Burns, who has also failed to contribute to the offense versus the Stars, has nine of his club-best 52 assists and 10 of his team high-tying point total in his last 10 games. Martin Jones has yielded seven goals over back-to-back losses after permitting 17 during his seven-game winning streak.

OVERTIME

1. Dallas C Tyler Seguin (team-leading 40 goals, 76 points) scored a goal and set up four others during his three-game point streak.

2. San Jose is second in the league on the penalty kill entering Tuesday after thwarting 21 of its last 22 opportunities over the last seven contests.

3. Stars captain Jamie Benn is one tally shy of his fourth 30-goal season in the past five years.

Your Tuesday freebie is the Raptors as the small dog against the Cavaliers.

When Cleveland and Toronto met on March 21st at Quicken Loans Arena, the Raptors outscored the Cavaliers 41-22 in the second quarter of play to lead by 13-points at the break. Toronto was pretty much in control, but they did let their foot off the pedal and got caught by the Cavs in the end in a 132-129 stinging loss that left the Toronto players shaking their heads come the post-game interview session.

This game definitely has significance, as the Raptors overall lead in the East with just over a week remaining in the regular season is 2 games over Boston. The Cavaliers are currently sitting in 3rd in the East Standings, but only a half-game ahead of Philadelphia, and a game ahead on Indiana for the 5th seed!

I see Toronto making a "statement" tonight. Yes, this game is on the road, and yes, Cleveland swept the Raptors out of the postseason last May, but this one is about the compilation of the whole season, and for the whole season the Raptors have been the better, more consistent team.

After coming off a loss at Boston their last time out - Raptors just 3-4 straight up the last 7 games! - Toronto steps up and gets that good feeling back in their mouths with the big-time road win at Cleveland this Tuesday night.

Play the Raptors.

4* TORONTO

Tommy Brunson

Tricky spot for the Blazers, as they do have stops in Houston and San Antonio on this Lone Star State swing still to come, but I say the Trail Blazers handle their business one more time against the lowly Dallas Mavericks.

The matchups lately have been wrong for Dallas when they take on Portland, as the Mavericks have lost 3 straight and 5 of the last 7 in this rivalry. Portland's last stop in the Metroplex saw them roll Dallas, 107-93. A similar score tonight would not be a surprise, as the Trail Blazers need to stay in that # 3 slot for playoff positioning, and this will be the easiest of the road tests on this Texas swing this week.

Dallas has only won once straight up over their last 9 games, and are 3-5 against the spread over their last 8.

Portland has won their last pair and 4 of their last 5, and they are also a solid 8-1 against the spread their last 9 when playing with a days rest under their belts.

All of the above scenarios lead to a comfortable Portland road win and cover over Dallas.

2* PORTLAND

MLB | Phillies vs Mets
Play on: Mets -117 at GTBets

Everything on paper says NY should own this series, with 6 wins over the last 10 games - New York owns the Phillies historically. And Mickey Callaway brings some excitement in as the new manager... one of the more interesting moves in managerial spots for sure. Their strength vs the Phils will continue moving on here.
Philadelphia ended their 2017 season with a hot streak - but are starting off the season slow like last season as well. Aaron Nola had just a 12-11 record to go along with a 3.54 ERA, over 27 starts to be their best pitcher on the season, which isn't saying a whole lot. Philadelphia struggled with hitting a lot of balls into groundouts as they lacked any lift. A poor batting team vs a better pitching team is going to be tough for them to handle on the road. Mets win this one on Tuesday behind Matt Harvey.

MLB | Rockies vs Padres
Play on: Padres +108 at BMaker

Free pick on Padres +
I'm recommending a play on the Padres at basically a pick'em at home against the Rockies. San Diego will be extremely motivated to get a win here after dropping the first 4 games of the season. I like their chances as they will send out Tyson Ross, who returned to the Padres after missing most of 2016 with an injury and making 10 starts last year with the Rangers.
When healthy Ross was one of the better starters in the game. His last full season was in 2015 and he posted a 3.26 ERA and 1.31 WHIP in 33 starts. The year before he had a 2.81 ERA and 1.21 WHIP in 31 starts. There's certainly concern on whether he can stay healthy, but all signs out of spring training are that he's in great form physically.
Padres are also 17-7 against the money line over the last 3 seasons when they come having lost 4 or more games in a row. They are also 8-1 in their last 9 at home after giving up 7+ runs in 2 straight games. Take San Diego!

MLB | Nationals vs Braves
Play on: Braves +118 at 5Dimes

Jack’s Free Pick Tuesday: Atlanta Braves +118
The Washington Nationals are off to a 4-0 start this season. They have picked up right where they left off last year. However, I expect them to suffer their first loss of the season tonight against the Atlanta Braves.
The Braves will be giving the ball to ace Julio Teheran. Teheran dominated the Nationals last season, going 3-0 with a 0.86 ERA in his final three starts against them, allowing just 2 earned runs in 21 innings pitched.
A.J. Cole is the 5th starter for the Nationals. He gave up 9 runs and 10 base runners in 2 innings of a 13-12 win over the Braves in his lone career start against them. Cole sports a 15.75 ERA in two outings against the Nationals in his career. The Braves will get their bats going again after scoring 27 runs in their three-game series with the Phillies.
Teheran is 9-1 (+11.7 units) against the money line vs. an NL team with an on-base percentage of .340 or better in his career. Cole is 0-6 (-9.1 units) as a favorite of -110 or higher over the last two seasons. Bet the Braves Tuesday.

MLB 75 DIME GAME
7.5 UNDER
Los Angeles won four out of the previous five H2H meetings, but Arizona was victorious in four out of the last five at Chase Field, and although this will probably be a tight affair, I am giving a slight advantage to the visitors, who recorded three wins in a row on the road in the pre-season. A potential key in this encounter could be the left-handed pitcher Kershaw who is quite talismanic when it comes to duels with Arizona, as the Dodgers are 5-0 in Kershaw’s last five starts vs. Diamondbacks. The over has been the play here, but today the weather is nice, and both pitchers will keep the runs low. I have the Dodgers winning 3-1. Lay the money on the under.

Play - Oklahoma City Thunder (Game 714).
Edges - Thunder: 8-3 SUATS at home with revenge from a same season loss of 32 or more points… Warriors: 2-4 SU and 0-6 ATS on Tuesdays this season. With the Thunder looking to avenge a 112-80 loss suffered at Golden State in February, the worst loss in this series since at least 1990, we recommend a 1* play on Oklahoma City. Thank you and good luck as always.

NBA | Wizards vs Rockets
Play on: Wizards +7½ -108 at 5Dimes

1 Unit FREE PLAY on Washington Wizards +7.5
The Houston Rockets are the top seed in the NBA playoffs. They are having a hard time finding reasons to be motivated over these final couple weeks of the season. They needed a buzzer-beater to top Phoenix 104-103 as 17-point home favorites, and then they lost 83-100 at San Antonio the game after. Mike D’Antoni has been preaching he wants his team sharp, but that’s easier said than done. The Rockets are mentally checked out right now and would be better off resting their players. The Wizards come in fresh and 100% healthy with John Wall back in the lineup. They are trying to fend off the Heat and Bucks for the 6th season in the East. Houston is 7-21 ATS in non-conference home games over the last two seasons. The road team is 7-2 ATS in the last nine meetings. The Wizards are 4-1 ATS in their last five meetings in Houston. Give me the Wizards.

The Key: The Suns are close to wrapping up the worst record in the NBA and their 25% chance of receiving the top pick in the NBA Draft. They have executed their tanking plan to perfection by resting all of their best players and claiming that they are injured. The Suns have now lost 15 straight and are 1-25 in their last 26 games overall. The Kings have continued to play with pride while trying to win games. They can be trusted to show up much more than the Suns can right now. Take Sacramento.

That said, that is why this not one of my official premium releases. Still it is a situation I certainly like and feel the strong odds of a Flyers win far outweigh the risk factor of laying the price here. Philadelphia is still trying to secure a playoff spot. The Islanders are eliminated and have been fading for a long time. The Isles have lost 8 of their last 10 and 16 of their last 19. The Flyers have won 10 of their last 14 against teams with a losing record. The Islanders have lost 16 of their last 20 games against teams with a winning record. Free Pick PHILADELPHIA

MLB | Dodgers vs Diamondbacks
Play on: Dodgers -156 at betonline

10* FREE MLB PICK (Dodgers -156)
I'll gladly lay the juice and take my chances here with the Dodgers behind the best pitcher in the game in Clayton Kershaw. LA let one get away in the series opener against the Diamondbacks on Monday, as Kenley Jansen failed to protect a 3-run lead in the 9th and the Dodgers went on to lost 7-8 in 15 innings. While both bullpens had to be used early, I think that's a bigger edge for the Dodgers, as there's a good chance we see Kershaw pitch deep into this game. Kershaw allowed just 5 runs over 21 2/3 innings in 3 starts last year against the Diamondbacks, pitching into the 7th inning of all 3 starts. Overall he has a 2.66 ERA in 27 career starts against Arizona. The Dbacks will counter with Zack Godley, who allowed 8 runs on 17 hits in 3 starts against the Dodgers last year and will be facing a LA offense that is red-hot at the plate, racking up 16 runs on 32 hits in their last 2 games. Give me the Dodgers -156!

NBA | Raptors vs Cavs
Play on: Cavs -1 -115 at BMaker

I'm backing the Cavaliers on Tuesday. Cleveland was no match for Toronto in the first meeting earlier this season, but knocked off the Raptors, 132-129 in the most recent meeting on March 21. Kevin Love had already returned and he and LeBron proved to be too much for Toronto. Then again, the Cavs have been too much for most teams of late, winning eight of their last nine SU, while covering seven of their last eight. The Cavs could be short-handed tonight with Kyle Korver and George Hill both listed as questionable. However, we feel this will simply force the healthy Cavaliers to stay focused throughout and pick up any slack. Obviously, if both play, even better. The Raptors have struggled on the defensive end over the last few weeks and they're just 3-4 SU in their last seven, while failing to cover any of their last last eight games. Cleveland enters on a 7-2 spread run at home when facing the Raptors and we'll back them here. The Cavaliers on Tuesday night. Thanks & GL! Scott Spreitzer.

NBA | Kings vs Suns
Play on: Kings +1 -108 at pinnacle

DMack's Free Play for Tuesday, April 3, 2018 is on the Sacramento Kings
The teams have split the last six meetings though Sacramento is 7-4 SU and ATS L11 in the series and 3-2 SU and ATS here. Both teams are train wrecks but while the Kings offer some modicum of an effort, the Suns have mailed it in with 15 straight losses, 9 by DDs, and 11 by 8+ points. When you play two bad teams you sometimes need to hold your nose but with the Suns not scoring or playing defense and the Kings catching a point or two here, Sacramento might be worth a look if you need something to play late.
The Mack Attack is now on a 20-8 all sports run and that is no accident. 3-Game NBA Power Pack, NHL Ice Picks and the MLB Play of the Day are all locked and loaded.

MLB | Cubs vs Reds
Play on: Cubs -166 at betonline

#MLB FREE PICK FROM MIKE LUNDIN
The Chicago Cubs are expected to challenge for the World Series title but are so far just 2-3 on the season following a 1-0 loss to the Cincinnati Reds on Monday. They recorded just two hits in the defeat but I think they'll bounce back in a big way Tuesday night.
The Reds hand the ball to 24 year old left-hander Cody Reed who will make his first start of the season. Reed gave up 20 hits in 12 1/3 innings during spring training and he is 0-3 with a 16.20 ERA in 10 innings (18 runs, 18 hits allowed) in three career starts against the Cubs.
The Cubs turn to Jon Lester who gave up three runs, seven hits and three walks in just 3 1/3 innings against Miami in his season debut. I expect a much more composed performance here. Lester is 5-1 with a 4.27 ERA in 13 career starts against the Reds, including a 2-1 record with a 3.66 ERA in six outings at Great American Ball Park.
Cubs are 11-2 in Lester's last 13 starts vs. Reds who are 0-11 in Reed's last 11 starts overall.
