HEAT MY DUST - I believe Cates is making a good move here. This filly can only benefit from the shorter distance. As the only speedy sort in the race, I expect this filly to be long gone. This one has shown the class ability to win on different tracks. Making the move from Oaklawn Park for today's event, I have to believe she's ready to run.

Vulnerable Contenders: #4 KAT'S INFATUATION (ML=3/2), #5 CATHERINE'S DREAM (ML=3/1), #3 PLUM GORGEOUS (ML=9/2),

KAT'S INFATUATION - Generally I need a sprinter to have some recent success in sprint contests in order to wager on her. I think this morning-line choice needs this race under her belt to start getting back into shape. CATHERINE'S DREAM - This less than sharp equine will probably bounce off of the last strong outing. PLUM GORGEOUS - Awfully difficult to wager on this horse when she hasn't been showing any signs of readiness of late. Recorded a somewhat easily forgotten speed rating last out in a $25,000 Optional Claiming race on May 29th. Doubtful to see an improved performance off of that rating.

Top HatGUEST COMMENTARY: Winston - HEAT MY DUST - The race on Feb 4th had a class rating of 95 while today's class rating is 90. I got to bet this one on such a big drop.

With better than average trips to the winner's circle, Rodriguezcastr will almost certainly have this mare in excellent position to win the contest. MRS. PATRICE - I think the shorter distance will help this filly stay the distance. With a big class drop in class rating points from her May 7th race at Thistledown. Based on that element, I will give this thoroughbred the advantage. AMERICAN LIONESS - The jock/conditioner duo of Gonzalez and Brown has a strong ROI together. Mare has shown some pace. This shorter trip should be better for her. Have to like the way Brown has raced this mare back into shape off the layoff. Animal is well spotted in this sprint and I think she'll run well today. BEIJA BOO - Filly won shipping here on May 28th and looks good right back. Rider hops back aloft after getting to know the fine animal by riding last time around the track. That's always a big time angle.

Vulnerable Contenders: #6 WICKED LOVE (ML=5/2), #7 SASSY SLEW (ML=7/2), #4 TRUE BLUE DIAMOND (ML=9/2),

WICKED LOVE - That was just not a very good display in the last affair. Hasn't been on the Thistledown oval in the last three weeks. Cause for some concern. Will be tough for this mount to beat this group off of that last speed figure. Not likely to improve enough to run a figure close enough to today's class rating, so put her on the questionable challengers list. SASSY SLEW - If you keep selecting these sort of 'bridesmaid' types, you're going to be dissatisfied frequently. TRUE BLUE DIAMOND - This less than sharp equine made little impact last time out of the box finishing fourth. Don't see any hint of a reversal of fortune in today's race. This animal likes to finish in the money, but doesn't usually finish on top. Forget the top spot.

Team Betting Notes

-- As mentioned last week, Atlanta (5-3) has alternated wins and losses against the spread all season, going 4-4 ATS through eight games while failing to cover or not cover in consecutive outings. The 'under' has been very consistent, however, going 6-1 across their past seven.

-- Chicago (3-5) opened with a pair of victories, but it has been all downhill from there. They have dropped five of their past six games straight-up, while going 0-3-1 ATS across their past four outings. The 'over' has connected in four of the past five contests.

-- Dallas (4-3) has picked up wins in consecutive outings for the first time this season, although they're 1-2 ATS across the past three. They're also 2-3 ATS in the past five on the road, including 0-2 ATS in the past two away from home. The 'over' has cashed in three in a row, however.

-- Indiana (0-8) heads into the new week still searching for their first straight-up victory. While they haven't been able to break through in the win column on the WNBA floor, they have covered two in a row, and three of their past four. The 'over' has hit in five of their past seven. They're best chance at a victory might be Tuesday when they welcome expansion Las Vegas (1-7) to town.

-- Speaking of the Aces, they have dropped three in a row and seven of their first eight. However, Vegas has come up big at the betting window, cashing in two straight while going 3-0-1 ATS over the past four contests.

-- Minnesota (3-6) continues to stumble along, as they haven't won consecutive games since May 23-25. They're also coming up empty at the betting window, going just 1-8 ATS so far this season.

-- Los Angeles (5-2) hasn't been able to piece together more than two wins at a time so far, but they are doing well for total bettors. Their team defense lately has contributed to four consecutive 'under' results.

-- Connecticut (7-1) has been red hot, losing just once against the Dream on June 5. They have been money at home, going 4-0 SU/3-1 ATS.

-- Like the Dream above, Seattle (6-3) has alternated wins and losses against the spread so far through nine games, so if you believe in trends they'll cover Tuesday against the Sky before failing to cover against the Sun on Friday. We'll see.

"we're hanging in there," tigers manager ron gardenhire told reporters. "we played a lot of close ballgames. one swing here and there could've changed it, and one good pitch here and there. so, 10-8, yes, but we could've been better, and i think that's what keeps driving these guys. we can do better." the twins are hoping they can do better as well after dropping four of their last six and scoring three runs or fewer in each of the four setbacks. minnesota will try to get the bats going against detroit left-hander blaine hardy while countering with veteran jake odorizzi on tuesday.

"it's just one of those -- it's kind of how baseball goes. it's one of those stretches where it seems like there's a lot of pitches over the plate for me. i'm sure it won't be long before there's a stretch where it seems like everything is around the corner. that's just kind of how it goes. when you get in a stretch like this, you have to take advantage of it." the rangers will be enduring a second straight series against a 2017 world series participant after being swept in a four-game series at home by the houston astros over the weekend. texas will try to take advantage of the injury-depleted los angeles rotation while sending veteran bartolo colon to the mound on tuesday.

Tuesday MLB Free play. My selection is on Minnesota over Detroit at 7:10 pm et on Tuesday.
The Twins endured a bit of a rough series against the Angels over the weekend, dropping two of three games but I look for them to build off Sunday's victory as they head to Detroit to face the Tigers on Tuesday.
Jake Odorizzi will take the ball for Minnesota. His overall numbers this season aren't great. However, he has given up three earned runs or less in seven of his last eight starts and has only needed to throw over 100 pitches once in his last six outings. He has given up just six earned runs in 23 2/3 innings over the course of his career against Detroit.
Blaine Hardy will counter for Detroit. He has hung in there, working at least six innings in three straight starts entering this one. He was tagged for eight hits and five earned runs at Fenway Park last time out, however. Hardy will also be at a disadvantage here facing the Twins for the second time in less than a month. He was effective but the Tigers suffered a 4-2 loss in Minnesota back on May 21st. Hardy isn't a hard thrower and I believe the Twins will get to him tonight.
