# 8 RL FUN FOR JESS 10/1

# 10 EYESA STOLI 5/2

# 6 TM HARD HEARTED 6/1

RL FUN FOR JESS looks to be a formidable contender especially at a such a nice price. Looks competitive against this group and ought to be one of the leaders. Could beat this field given the 52 Equibase Speed Figure recorded in her last outing. Lately Weeks has provided players with a decent winning percentage with horses travelling in short races. EYESA STOLI - Hernandez ought to be able to get this gelding to break out quickly in here. With a formidable 64 average speed figure at the distance, seems well suited for today's affair. TM HARD HEARTED - With a +5 ROI, this rider and handler duo has produced solid gains lately for wagerers. Handler boasts very strong win numbers at this distance and surface.

# 4 FIRST PRIZE DEZ 5/2

# 1 RECEPTOR 9/5

# 6 HEROSWIDEOPEN 9/2

FIRST PRIZE DEZ is the top bet in this race. Smith ought to be able to get this gelding to break out quickly in this race. Had one of the most respectable speed figures of this field in his last competition. Is a sharp contender based on figs garnered recently under today's conditions. RECEPTOR - He has been running well and the speed figs are among the strongest in this group of horses in this race. Could best this group of animals based on the Equibase Speed Figure - 66 - of his last effort.

#3 SHIDOSHI (ML=8/1)
#8 CARTERSVILLE (ML=7/2)
#5 CREST OF EDEN (ML=12/1)

SHIDOSHI - This horse obviously likes the conditions for today's race. Has garnered the highest Equibase speed figure on the turf at the distance/surface. I think Sano is making a good move here. This gelding can only benefit from the shorter distance. Faced tougher in the last race at Gulfstream Park. Based on Equibase class ratings, this is a weaker group, so I will put this animal on my list of strong contenders. CARTERSVILLE - A big drop in class rating points from his Dec 20th race at Tampa Bay Downs. Based on that data, I will give this thoroughbred the advantage. I believe that this shorter distance should help this gelding. I think that the addition of the 'hood' today will keep his mind on the race at hand. The addition of Lasix might make this animal wake up in this race. CREST OF EDEN - This colt has the top turf figure in his last race. It doesn't take a college grad like The Brain to figure this here thoroughbred has a good chance. This horse's last race was at Gulfstream Park in a race with a class figure of 74. Dropping considerably in class rating this time puts him in a solid position in this field. Personally, I wouldn't worry about where he finished in his last race (sixth). Should rebound in today's race, with some respectable odds.

Vulnerable Contenders: #11 ARMONICO (ML=4/1), #14 OURS DREAM FLY (ML=9/2), #9 PEKIN (ML=5/1),

ARMONICO - The lack of early zip in the last one, a route affair, is a bit disturbing. Equibase speed figures tell a tale of decreasing condition. Showed very little in the last affair. Really can't expect any improvement today. OURS DREAM FLY - Don't figure that this runner has what it takes to be victorious in today's event. PEKIN - Today's affair is 5 furlongs. Hasn't finished in the money in a sprint event in the last two months. Not the greatest of indicators.

#5 CALLME MR MISTER (ML=6/1)
#7 JAGGER ADDED (ML=2/1)
#2 ADDED ATTRACTION (ML=3/1)

CALLME MR MISTER - Faced tougher last time out at Prairie Meadows. Based on Equibase class figures, this is a weaker field, so I will put this horse on my list of strong contenders. Gelding had the second fastest workout of the day prepping for this. This gelding should be at the fitness peak, this far into his form cycle. JAGGER ADDED - Taking a trip down in class; has the class ability to make his presence felt. I like to wager on this handicapping angle, a thoroughbred coming back off a good effort within the last month or so. Jockey jumped on this gelding's back for the initial time on May 26th. Should be in tune with the animal even better today. Look two races back where the horse finished second. You can excuse the last affair where he bounced a bit. I see a return to form today. This gelding is tops in EPS (earnings per start). Take a good look at this animal in the saddling enclosure. Just look at his most recent speed rating, 59. That one looks good in this bunch. ADDED ATTRACTION - Trainer, McShane, has been deliberate with this gelding off the layoff. Look for a solid effort today. Two starts back coming off a brief layoff at Prairie Meadows the animal looked good, but turned in a clunker the next time. In this race I like the ability to bounce back off that dull effort with another nice event.

Vulnerable Contenders: #1 DANCE FOR RANSOM (ML=5/1), #6 CHEROKEE CHARLIE (ML=8/1),

DANCE FOR RANSOM - Ran well to finish first on May 25th, but hasn't had nary a single blow out since then. CHEROKEE CHARLIE - This gelding hasn't been showing me anything positive in the last couple of outings. I find it hard to bet on this questionable contender in today's event. Make him show you something in a short distance race before you play him in a race of 6 furlongs. When looking at today's class rating, he will have to earn a better speed fig than last time out to battle in this dirt sprint.

Top HatGUEST COMMENTARY: Winston - ADDED ATTRACTION - This gelding takes a big tumble in the Equibase class figure department from a rating of 78 down to 65. Strong contender.

Hottest team: Astros (7-0 last seven)

Houston and Seattle are battling it for the top spot in the American League West as both teams are on fire. The Astros picked up their seventh consecutive victory on Wednesday night by blasting the Athletics, 13-5 to improve to 25-11 away from Minute Maid Park. Houston owns a 7-1 record against Oakland this season, including a perfect 5-0 mark at the Coliseum this season.

The Astros seek the sweep of the A’s this afternoon and have an excellent chance to do so as Justin Verlander takes the mound. The former MVP and Cy Young winner has compiled an 8-2 record along with a miniscule 1.45 ERA, while facing Oakland for the first time this season. The Astros have won six of Verlander’s seven road starts in 2018, while Houston is seeking its third fourth away sweep of the season.

Coldest team: Giants (5-16 last 21 on road)

San Francisco has gone backwards since traveling to south Florida by losing three games to Miami. The Giants blew an early 2-0 lead in a 5-4 walk-off defeat on Wednesday, marking the fourth loss on their current road trip. The highway has been tough for San Francisco, as the Giants have dropped seven consecutive series since sweeping the Braves in early May.

The only good news for San Francisco is it has won each of its past two road series finales at Colorado and Washington, as the Giants wrap up their series with the Marlins this afternoon. Dereck Rodriguez makes his third career start for San Francisco today, as he was lit up by Washington in his last outing by allowing five earned runs in 2.2 innings of a 7-5 defeat.

Hottest pitcher: Blake Snell, Rays (8-3, 2.30 ERA)

Tampa Bay travels to New York tonight after pulling off a three-game home sweep of Toronto. Snell has been mowing down batters recently as the southpaw has struck out 36 batters in his last five starts. The left-hander has yielded only three runs in his past four outings, while giving up two runs or less in nine of his last 10 trips to the mound. Unfortunately, one of Snell’s worst starts of the season came against the Yankees in early April by allowing five earned runs in 3.1 innings of a 7-2 defeat.

Coldest pitcher: German Marquez, Rockies (4-6, 4.79 ERA)

Colorado ended a five-game slide in Wednesday’s blowout of Philadelphia, as the Rockies seek the series victory this afternoon. Marquez has struggled in June by giving up nine runs and 13 hits in 10 innings of work, while getting taken deep five times in home losses to the Dodgers and Diamondbacks. The right-hander has actually fared better away from Coors Field this season by posting a 2.06 ERA and 4-2 team record in six road starts.

Biggest OVER run: Diamondbacks (6-1 last seven)

Arizona couldn’t pull off the home sweep of Pittsburgh on Wednesday, but the D-backs scored a pair of late runs to cash the OVER of 7 ½ in a 5-4 loss. The D-backs plated at least eight runs in each of their previous five games (all wins), but fell to 2-19 in their last 21 games when scoring four runs or fewer. Overall, Arizona is 11-4 in the past 15 contests, meaning the D-backs have been plating plenty of runs of late, which includes a 7-2 mark to the OVER in the last nine home contests. The D-backs host the Mets on Thursday, looking to avenge a three-game sweep at Citi Field last month in which Arizona scored only six runs.

Biggest UNDER run: Yankees (8-0 last eight)

The powerful New York lineup has slumped of late, coming off Wednesday’s 5-4 home loss to Washington. The Bronx Bombers have failed to score more than four runs in six straight games, but their pitching has been stellar by limiting opponents to two runs or less in five of the past seven contests. The Yankees continue their homestand tonight by hosting the Rays as Domingo German hits the hill. German has seen the UNDER cash in three straight starts, but opponents have scored at least four runs in each of his three home starts this season.

Matchup to watch: Red Sox vs. Mariners

Both Boston and Seattle are fresh off sweeps heading into this crucial four-game series at Safeco Field. The Red Sox cruised past the struggling Orioles in a three-game sweep at Camden Yards, while the Mariners walked-off in Wednesday’s victory over the Angels to secure a sweep and hold onto first place in the American League West.

A pair of Cy Young winners head to the mound in Thursday’s opener as David Price squares off against Felix Hernandez. Price has been on fire of late as Boston owns a 6-0 record in the southpaw’s last six starts, including a 3-0 mark away from Fenway Park. During this span, Price has allowed two earned runs or less five times, while the UNDER has hit four times. Price is making his first start at Safeco Field since August 2016 when the Red Sox squandered a 4-0 lead as the Mariners scored five runs in the bottom of the eighth for a 5-4 victory.

Hernandez yielded at least five runs for the fifth time this season in last Saturday’s 7-3 loss at Tampa Bay. The Mariners have rebounded well when King Felix takes the mound following a defeat in his last start by going 4-1 this season in this situation. Pitching under the lights has benefited Hernandez this season as he owns a 4-0 record in night games, while the M’s are 6-1 in those contests.

The two teams split their six meetings last season as the Mariners won two of three matchups at Safeco Field. Five of the six games finished UNDER the total, while eight of the past nine contests for Boston have cashed the UNDER.

Betcha didn’t know: Series openers have not been kind to the Padres this season. San Diego has amazingly lost 13 of its past 14 Game 1’s of a series dating back to late April. Who was the only team the Padres beat in a series opener during this span? San Diego destroyed Atlanta, 11-4 on June 4 at Petco Park as the Padres grabbed two of three from the Braves in that series. The Padres travel to Atlanta tonight as an underdog looking to knock off the Braves after winning the final two games of their series against the Cardinals.

Biggest public favorite: Astros (-170) at Athletics

Biggest public underdog: Mariners (+120) vs. Red Sox

Biggest line move: Tigers (+110 to +105) vs. Twins

San Francisco Giants vs. Miami Marlins Preview and Predictions 06-14-2018

14th June 2018 by Gracenote
the miami marlins are having their way with san francisco and look to finish off a four-game sweep when they host the giants on thursday afternoon. the marlins pushed across runs in the eighth and ninth innings to post a 5-4 victory on wednesday and aim to match their season-high four-game winning streak with a triumph in the finale.

giants right fielder andrew mccutchen was disappointed with the latest setback, which represents san francisco's eighth loss in its last nine meetings with miami. "you can't take any team lightly," mccutchen told reporters after going 2-for-5 with a two-run homer. "this is the big leagues and, regardless of their record or how many fans are in the stands, you've got to be ready to go." justin bour continued to torment san francisco pitchers with the game-tying rbi double in the eighth inning while rookie brian anderson lifted the winning sacrifice fly in the bottom of the ninth. bour went 2-for-4 with two rbis and is 17-for-45 with four homers and 14 rbis in 15 career games against the giants.

tv: 12:10 p.m. et, nbcs bay area (san francisco), fs florida (miami)
pitching matchup: giants rh dereck rodriguez (1-1, 5.25 era) vs. marlins rh dan straily (2-2, 4.08)
rodriguez is the son of hall-of-fame catcher ivan "pudge" rodriguez, who was national league championship series mvp for the marlins in 2003 as the team went on to win the world series. the 26-year-old is making his fourth major-league appearance and third start, although his last outing went poorly as he was pounded for five runs and six hits over 2 2/3 innings in a loss to washington. rodriguez pitched well in his previous turn, when he gave up one run and five hits over six frames in defeating philadelphia for his first career win.
straily always has performed well against the giants as he is 4-0 with a 2.43 era in five career starts while dominating hunter pence (0-for-11). the 29-year-old gave up four runs and nine hits over 3 2/3 innings in a no-decision against san diego in his last turn. straily suffered bruised ribs against the padres when he was struck by eric hosmer's liner but said he only experienced "a little bit of soreness" and is fully healthy for this outing.
walk-offs

1. giants c buster posey, who is 2-for-11 lifetime versus straily, went 3-for-4 with two runs scored on wednesday and is 5-for-12 in the series.

2. miami c j.t. realmuto went 2-for-4 and scored twice on wednesday and is 6-for-12 with a homer in the series.

3. san francisco 1b brandon belt (appendix) took indoor batting practice wednesday and eventually will go on a rehab assignment before making his return.

Colorado Rockies vs. Philadelphia Phillies Preview and Predictions 06-14-2018

13th June 2018 by Gracenote
trevor story has been enjoying a blistering june, which he's highlighted by recording multiple hits in each of his last five contests. story aims to push his hitting streak to eight games on thursday afternoon as the colorado rockies visit the philadelphia phillies for the rubber match of their three-game series.

story scored twice in tuesday's 5-4 setback before belting a pair of rbi doubles the following night as colorado emphatically snapped a season-worst five-game skid with a 7-2 romp. the 25-year-old has gone 18-for-41 in his last 10 contests to raise his batting average from .237 to .270, but he is just 2-for-8 (one homer) lifetime versus thursday starter vince velasquez. while story has embraced the early portion of june, the phillies are singing a vastly different tune with losses in eight of 11 contests this month. jesmuel valentin has recorded an rbi for philadelphia in both games of this series, going 4-for-5 with his first career homer, two doubles and a run scored.

tv: 1:05 p.m. et, nbc 10 (philadelphia)
pitching matchup: rockies rh german marquez (4-6, 4.79 era) vs. phillies rh vince velasquez (4-7, 4.95)
marquez tasted defeat for the first time since may 15 on friday after surrendering three homers in the third inning and five runs overall in a 9-4 setback against arizona. the 23-year-old venezuelan has pitched better on the road, where he owns a 3-2 record and 2.06 era in six starts while limiting the opposition to a .202 batting average. marquez has allowed the current crop of phillies to go 6-for-14 against him, although he won his lone career start versus philadelphia on may 23, 2017 after yielding just one run over six innings.
velasquez posted a 3-2 record and 2.14 era during a six-start stretch before surrendering a career-high 10 runs and nine hits - five for extra bases - in friday's 12-4 shellacking by milwaukee. the 26-year-old issued two walks in the first inning, setting the table for a three-run homer by ryan braun. carlos gonzalez has ravaged velasquez in his career, going 6-for-12 with three extra-base hits (one homer) and five rbis.
walk-offs

1. philadelphia ss scott kingery followed a career high-tying four-rbi performance in the series opener by striking out in all four of his plate appearances on wednesday.

2. colorado lf gerardo parra has hit safely in eight of his last nine games.

3. phillies cf odubel herrera, who is mired in an 0-for-17 drought, is expected to return to the lineup for the finale after sitting out wednesday's contest.

prediction: rockies 4, phillies 2

Minnesota Twins vs. Detroit Tigers Preview and Predictions 06-14-2018

14th June 2018 by Gracenote
the detroit tigers began the chore of moving on without miguel cabrera with a solid comeback win and look to follow it up when they conclude their three-game series with the visiting minnesota twins on thursday afternoon. detroit exploded for four eighth-inning runs in wednesday's 5-2 victory, its first contest since losing cabrera to a season-ending biceps injury a day earlier.

john hicks started at first base in cabrera's absence and went 3-for-4 to improve to 6-for-10 with a walk over his last three games. niko goodrum also recorded three hits to match a season high, belting his sixth homer of the campaign in the process. eduardo escobar went 2-for-4 with a two-run single for the twins, giving him nine multi-hit performances while going 22-for-54 over his last 14 contests. minnesota's miguel sano, an all-star last season, was hitless in four at-bats on wednesday and is 6-for-37 this month without a homer.

tv: 1:10 p.m. et, fs north (minnesota), fs detroit
pitching matchup: twins rh lance lynn (4-4, 5.08 era) vs. tigers rh michael fulmer (2-5, 4.40)

fulmer is 4-0 with a 3.04 era in four career starts against the twins as he notched the win on may 23, when he gave up one run and four hits over 5 2/3 innings. the 25-year-old came away without a decision versus cleveland last time out despite allowing one run and five hits in seven frames. fulmer has gone 0-4 with a 4.54 era in seven home starts this season to fall to 9-10 with a 3.59 era in 30 career outings at comerica park.

14th June 2018 by Gracenote
the chicago white sox attempt to win a four-game series against american league central-leading cleveland when they host the indians on thursday afternoon for the series finale. chicago has won the last two contests after losing the series opener and is looking for its fourth victory in five games.

the white sox posted a 3-2 triumph on wednesday despite registering only four hits while cleveland's frustrated offense racked up 14. however, the indians were just 2-for-13 with runners in scoring position, while two of chicago's hits drove in runs - a triple by charlie tilson and a single by kevan smith. michael brantley collected three hits on wednesday to raise his batting average to .322 after being just 9-for-44 over his previous 11 games. the white sox are 12-20 at home, having won nine of their last 14 after they opened the season by losing 15 of their first 18 at guaranteed rate field.

tv: 2:10 p.m. et, mlb network, sportstime ohio (cleveland), nbcs chicago
pitching matchup: indians rh mike clevinger (4-2, 3.31 era) vs. white sox lh carlos rodon (0-1, 3.60)

rodon is making his second start of the season after missing the first two-plus months due to shoulder surgery. the 25-year-old worked five innings against boston in his season debut on saturday, when he gave up four runs - two earned - and six hits while suffering the loss. rodon is 4-1 with a 2.34 era in 10 career appearances (nine starts) against cleveland and has shut down brantley (2-for-14).

Houston Astros vs. Oakland Athletics Preview and Predictions 06-14-2018

14th June 2018 by Gracenote
the oakland athletics hope to cool off the visiting houston astros and salvage the finale of their three-game series thursday afternoon, but they'll need to slow down evan gattis in order to have a chance. gattis has recorded three home runs and 10 rbis in the first two games of the set after going deep twice in wednesday's 13-5 victory.

the 31-year-old designated hitter belted a three-run shot during houston's seven-run second inning and added a solo blast in the seventh as the reigning world series champion extended its winning streak to a season-high seven games. gattis enters the series finale as the only player in club history to record back-to-back five-rbi performances. oakland fell to 3-3 on its 10-game homestand as it suffered its seventh straight loss to the astros despite a two-home run effort from khris davis and a three-run blast by stephen piscotty. davis' 18th career multi-homer performance - and third this season - gave him six shots in his last eight contests.
tv: 3:35 p.m. et, mlb network, at&t sportsnet-southwest (houston)
pitching matchup: astros rh justin verlander (8-2, 1.45 era) vs. athletics rh frankie montas (3-0, 1.25)

verlander produced an atypical performance friday but managed to win his fourth consecutive decision after allowing three runs on five hits and three walks over six innings at texas. the 35-year-old native of virginia, who will be making his 400th career start, is 6-1 with a sterling 0.96 era and 0.88 whip in seven turns on the road this season. verlander has made 17 starts against oakland, going 10-6 with one complete game and a 2.61 era.
montas continued the superb start to his tenure with oakland this year friday, when he gave up two runs and six hits over 7 2/3 innings in a win over kansas city. the 25-year-old dominican has yielded three runs and 16 hits while registering 14 strikeouts and issuing only three walks over 21 2/3 frames in his three turns. montas has made two relief appearances against houston in his career, surrendering five runs and five hits in two innings.

Tampa Bay Rays vs. New York Yankees Preview and Predictions 06-14-2018

13th June 2018 by Gracenote
the tampa bay rays face quite the litmus test as they embark on a 16-game stretch in which they play only the new york yankees, houston and washington. the rays (32-35), who own a lackluster 11-26 mark against winning teams this season, open that imposing stretch on the road thursday with the first of four games versus the new york yankees (43-20).

"we're going to really see what kind of team we have here against the best in the league," said thursday starter blake snell, who owns a 3-0 mark with a rail-thin 0.38 era in his past four outings. tampa bay countered a disastrous 1-9 stretch by completing a three-game sweep of toronto with wednesday afternoon's 1-0 triumph, courtesy of matt duffy's rbi single in the ninth inning. new york has answered a 9-1 stretch by dropping two of three, including a 5-4 decision on wednesday in the finale of an abbreviated two-game interleague series versus the nationals. giancarlo stanton and greg bird showed signs of working their way out of their respective pronounced slumps, with the former collecting three hits while the latter belted a towering homer in the loss.
tv: 7:05 p.m. et, fs1
pitching matchup: rays lh blake snell (8-3, 2.30 era) vs. yankees rh domingo german (0-4, 5.32)

snell matched a career high by winning his fourth consecutive decision on saturday after allowing two runs (one earned) on a season-high seven hits in six innings of a 7-3 victory versus seattle. the 25-year-old struck out two in that contest after fanning his first seven batters to begin his previous start en route to a 12-strikeout performance. gary sanchez is 4-for-10 with three homers against snell, although the left-hander has flustered aaron judge (0-for-6) and aaron hicks (0-for-6).
german overcame two homers to strike out nine over six innings in a no-decision against the new york mets on saturday. the 25-year-old dominican didn't walk a batter for the first time since a three-inning effort at boston on april 12. german will be making his 19th appearance (seventh start) on thursday by facing the yankees for the first time in his career.

2. tampa bay cf mallex smith is 13-for-23 with five runs scored and four rbis during his seven-game hitting streak.

3. yankees of brett gardner went 3-for-8 with four runs scored in two games versus the rays on april 3-4.

14th June 2018 by Gracenote
freddie freeman looks to continue another offensive surge and help the atlanta braves increase their lead in the national league east when they host the improving san diego padres on thursday to open a four-game set. freeman is 13-for-27 during a seven-game hitting streak with five homers, including a solo blast in wednesday's 2-0 triumph against the visiting new york mets.

freeman also had an rbi single in the last victory and has hit safely in 23 of his last 24 games, going 37-for-96 in that span to raise his nl-leading batting average to .344 with 14 homers and 48 rbis. anibal sanchez tries to remain unbeaten when he takes the mound for the braves, who lead washington by one game in the division, against fellow right-hander tyson ross in the series opener after the padres took two of three from atlanta in san diego from june 4-6. the padres continue to hang around in the tight nl west race with four wins in their last five games and an 11-4 mark since may 29 with five straight series victories after a 4-2 triumph at st. louis on wednesday. manuel margot recorded a triple along with two singles in the victory and is 9-for-20 during a six-game hitting streak for san diego, which sits 5 ½ games out of first place while sitting in the cellar.
tv: 7:35 p.m. et, fs san diego, fs southeast (atlanta)
pitching matchup: padres rh tyson ross (5-3, 3.43 era) vs. braves rh anibal sanchez (2-0, 2.37)

ross is unbeaten in his last six starts, but has not been able to get through six innings during the past three trips to the mound. the 31-year-old, who has held right-handed batters to a .166 average, posted quality starts in the first three outings of his streak and allowed nine runs (eight earned) over 15 2/3 innings over the last three appearances. nick markakis is 5-for-8 with three walks versus ross, who is 0-1 with a 3.38 era in four career meetings (three starts) with the braves.
sanchez earned his second victory of the season saturday, permitting two runs on three hits and two walks across 5 1/3 innings. the 34-year-old venezuela native gave up two or fewer runs in four of his five starts in 2018, including june 3 against washington when he yielded two unearned runs and two hits over seven innings. eric hosmer is 15-for-43 with five doubles and a homer against sanchez, who is 0-2 with a 2.76 era in five career starts versus the padres.

1. san diego 3b cory spangenberg is 6-for-16 during a four-game hitting streak and boasts multiple hits in four of his past eight contests.

2. atlanta cf ender inciarte leads the nl with 20 stolen bases and is just two away from his career high in 2017.
3. the braves managed to outscore the padres 19-15 in the series earlier this month and took nine of 13 meetings the previous two seasons.

New York Mets vs. Arizona Diamondbacks Preview and Predictions 06-14-2018

13th June 2018 by Gracenote
the arizona diamondbacks were in their worst stretch of the season the last time they saw the new york mets and the result was a three-game sweep that was part of a seven-game slide. the diamondbacks are playing markedly better as they prepare for a rematch against the skidding mets, who arrive in arizona having lost 10 of 11 entering thursday's opener of a four-game set.

the diamondbacks were denied in their bid for a sweep of visiting pittsburgh, dropping a 5-4 decision to snap their five-game winning streak. arizona scored six times in last month's series against the mets but the national league west leaders have piled up 55 runs during the 5-1 stretch. conversely, the mets have scored only 10 runs over their past nine games and were shut out for the third time in eight contests in wednesday's 2-0 loss to atlanta, prompting third baseman todd frazier to apologize to starting pitcher jacob degrom. "for us not to put up any runs for him again, i told him i was sorry," frazier said after new york dropped a season-worst eight games below .500. "i don't know what else to tell him."
tv: 9:40 p.m. et, sny (new york), fs arizona
pitching matchup: mets lh steven matz (2-4, 3.53 era) vs. diamondbacks rh matt koch (4-3, 4.20)

the mets wasted another quality start by matz, who did not factor in the decision last time out against the new york yankees after giving up three runs and five hits over six innings. he was touched for a pair of homers in the game, the first time he's been taken deep since he allowed a pair of blasts in a no-decision versus arizona on may 19. first baseman paul goldschmidt has two solo homers in five at-bats against matz.
koch escaped with a no-decision at colorado on saturday despite getting rocked for seven runs (five earned) and eight hits, including three home runs, over five innings. he had his best outing in his previous start, earning the win by limiting miami to three hits over seven scoreless innings. koch gave up three runs and failed to retire a batter in relief against the mets last year, his lone major-league appearance in 2017.
walk-offs

1. goldschmidt is 20-for-37 during a nine-game hitting streak.

2. mets rhp noah syndergaard will remain sidelined after he was told to rest his injured right index finger.

3. arizona lhp robbie ray (strained right oblique) will make a rehab start thursday at class a visalia.

Free Pick on Tigers +112
I like the value here with the Tigers at basically a pick'em at home against the Twins on Thursday. For me this one comes down to starting pitching. Detroit will turn it over to Michael Fulmer, who is coming off one of his best outings of 2018.
Fulmer allowed just 1 run on 5 hits with no walks in 7 innings at home against the Indians. We know Fulmer has the stuff to be a top tier pitcher and just like hitters, pitchers get hot. I look for him to keep it going with another strong outing in this one.
Minnesota will counter with Lane Lynn, who has also been pitching well of late, but has really struggled away from home. Lynn owns a miserable 7.12 ERA and 1.912 WHIP in 6 road starts this season
Twins are just 2-7 in their last 9 road games and 1-4 in their last 5 road games vs a team with a winning home record. Tigers are 4-1 in their last 5 home games vs a team with a losing record and 14-4 in Fulmer's last 18 starts during game 3 of a series. Take Detroit!

MLB | Red Sox vs Mariners
Play on: Red Sox -129 at betonline

My free play is on the Bos Red Sox at 10:10 ET. The 47-22 Red Sox own MLB's best record after they opened a 10-game road trip by completing a three-game sweep of major league-worst Baltimore, outscoring the Orioles 13-5 to improve to 24-11 away from home. Boston's trek continues with the first contest of a four-game series at the Seattle Mariners on Thursday night. Seattle just finished a three-game sweep of the Los Angeles Angels to remain atop the AL West with a 44-24 record (note: Seattle owns MLB's best moneyline mark at plus-$1751). The Red Sox own MLB's best team BA (.262) plus rank second in runs (5.13 per), OPS (.786) and HRs (99). Speaking of HRs, the Mariners hit 10 in their series sweep of the Angels, including four by Ryon Healy and three by Mitch Haniger, who hit a walk-off two-run shot in Wednesday's 8-6 victory.
Tuesday's pitching matchup features a pair of "big names" in Boston lefty David Price (7-4, 4.00 ERA) and Seattle's Felix Hernandez (6-5, 5.70 ERA). Price won his third straight outing by limiting the Chicago White Sox to two runs and five hits over six innings in Saturday's 4-2 win and has surrendered a combined 12 runs during his six-start unbeaten streak dating back to May 12. Boston is 6-0 in that stretch and is 9-4 (plus-$453) in his 13 starts this season. Price has made seven career starts against the Mariners, posting a 3-1 record and 2.62 ERA while holding them to a collective .204 batting average. "King Felix" followed up his longest outing of the year with his shortest, lasting three innings and permitting six runs (five earned) on seven hits in a 7-3 loss at Tampa Bay. That came right after he beat the Rays 2-1 in his previous outing with eight dominant innings, allowing one run on five hits while matching his season high with seven strikeouts. Hernandez is 8-4 with a 4.01 ERA lifetime versus the Red Sox but he hasn't beaten them since 2014.
I guess the question looms, will it be the good King or the bad King? Will we see the Felix Hernandez who went a season-high eight innings in his last home start against Tampa Bay, giving up just one run on five hits with one walk and seven strikeouts? Or, will it be the King Felix who lasted just three innings on the road Saturday against those same Rays, getting tagged for six runs (five earned) on seven hits to a team that had lost eight straight games? I'm not about to guess and will back Boston and Price, who has led his team to six straight wins, posting a 2.89 ERA. Meanwhile, Hernandez owns a career-worst 5.70 ERA in 2018 and has given up four or more runs in five of his past seven starts. Take the Red Sox.
Good luck...Larry

MLB | HOU vs OAK
Play on: UNDER 7½ +102

Thursday MLB Free play. My selection is on the 'under' between Houston and Oakland at 3:35 pm et on Thursday.
We saw a wild, high-scoring game between these two teams last night, with the Astros pacing the way with 13 runs. I expect things to settle down considerably on Thursday afternoon as the 'Stros send Justin Verlander to the hill against Frankie Montas.
Verlander has of course been one of the best pitchers in baseball this season, even if he has stumbled a bit lately. Even though Verlander has allowed five earned runs and issued five walks over his last two outings, he still managed to work six innings in both of those starts, striking out 15 and giving up just eight hits. He gets a bit of a break against the A's here after facing the Yankees, Red Sox and Rangers in his last three outings.
Montas continues to pitch well for the A's. In three starts this season he has gone at least six innings in all three, giving up a grand total of just three earned runs on 16 hits in 21 2/23 innings of work. There's no question he'll be facing a tough task against the red hot Astros bats today, but I'm confident he'll rise to the occasion and I certainly don't expect to witness the type of scoring outburst we saw last night.
Look for things to move along swiftly on getaway day at the ballpark in Oakland. Take the under (8*).

10* FREE MLB PICK (Under 8.5)
I'll take my chances here with the Indians and White Sox finishing UNDER the total of 8.5 set by the books. Cleveland will send out Mike Clevinger, who often gets overlooked in the loaded Indians starting rotation. Clevinger is 4-2 with a solid 3.31 ERA and 1.210 WHIP in 13 starts. he's been even better on the road with a 2.43 ERA and 1.082 WHIP in 6 starts away from home. Hard to not like his chances of shutting down a White Sox lineup that has cored 3 or fewer runs in 5 of their last 7 games. I also think we get a strong showing from Chicago starter Carlos Rodon, who pitched well in his debut on the road against the Red Sox. Indians are averaging just 3.6 runs and hitting .243 as a team in their last 7 games. Cleveland also is averaging only 3.9 runs and hitting .228 on the road this season. Give me the UNDER 8.5!

I think the books have set the bar too high for Thursday's MLB total between the Red Sox and Mariners. Boston will send out David Price, who has been on quite a run here of late. Price has allowed 3 or fewer earned runs in each of his last 6 starts and is 3-1 with a 2.62 ERA in 7 career starts against the Mariners. Seattle will counter with Felix Hernandez, who has been up and down in 2018. The one thing I like with Hernandez is in his last home start, he allowed just 1 run on 5 hits in 8 innings, continuing a trend of him pitching much better at home than on the road. Bet the UNDER 8.5!

#MLB FREE PICK FROM MIKE LUNDIN
The Cleveland Indians and the Chicago White Sox will wrap up this four-game series today. None of the previous three games have gone over the total, and I expect another low-scoring affair here in the series finale.
Cleveland righty Mike Clevinger (4-2, 3.31 ERA) held the Tigers to two runs on four hits in 6 2/3 frames his last time out. In nine of his 13 starts this year, he has given up three earned runs or fewer and under is 5-2-1 in Clevinger's last eight starts vs. a team with a losing record.
White Sox lefty Carlos Rodon (0-1, 3.60 ERA) will make his second start after spending two-plus months on the disabled list as he recovered from shoulder surgery. Rodon was tagged with four runs (two earned) on six hits in five innings against Boston in his season debut, but he's an impressive 4-1 with a 2.34 ERA in 10 career appearances (nine starts) against Cleveland.
Under is 8-0 in White Sox last 8 vs. a team with a winning record. Under is 11-4 in Rodon's last 15 home starts vs. a team with a winning record.
