#7 NITE BLITZEN (ML=6/1)
#3 I NEED YOU (ML=8/5)
#4 REAL FACT (ML=15/1)

NITE BLITZEN - Jock hops up atop after getting to know the mount by riding in the last race. That's always a good thing. I like when a race sets up this way. This gelding has the lone early speed to crush this field. Have to make this gelding a win candidate; he comes off a strong outing on Jun 15th. I NEED YOU - This campaigner coming off a nice effort in the last month is a serious competitor in my book. Got to appreciate a good work horse. This gelding's last work was second fastest of the day for the distance. I like the piece of information that this gelding's last speed figure, 64, is tops in this field. I like this gelding. Has the topmost earnings per start (EPS) in this contest. REAL FACT - Have to give this gelding a shot. Ran a sharp contest last out within the last 30 days. After the race aboard this horse on June 16th, the jockey is going to know the gelding much better. Horse has improved at least two speed fig points in last two races. I look for that to continue right here.

Vulnerable Contenders: #8 HOTSTORMABREWING (ML=2/1),

HOTSTORMABREWING - A strong animal that's been running well, but he's been off the track in the mornings recently. Don't believe this horse will do much running in today's race. That last speed figure was mediocre when compared with today's class rating.

# 5 BAYMAX 9/5

# 3 CAT TWO STORM 2/1

# 6 DASH MICHAEL DASH 9/2

My selection for this event is BAYMAX. Shows strong Equibase Speed Figures on average overall when matched with the rest of this field. Recently Zamudio has provided risk takers with a competitive winning percentage with horses running in short races. Should finish in the money without any problem. CAT TWO STORM - Always good to invest in a trainer with this kind of formidable win percentage - 21 percent - at this distance & surface. Will probably compete well in the early speed clash which bodes well with this group of animals. DASH MICHAEL DASH - Ran a very solid last race. This horse must be bet on at the expected high odds.

# 2 JOKERS TOTHE RIGHT 6/1

MARKET MONEY is tough to overlook as the wager in here. The Equibase Speed Figure of 79 from her last race looks quite good in here. CHOICE PROSPECT - Could best this field based on the speed rating - 74 - of her last affair. JOKERS TOTHE RIGHT - Has run well when racing a turf sprint race.

Woodbine - Race #4 - Post: 2:38pm - Claiming - 7.0 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $20,000 Class Rating: 70

Rating: Golden DollarGolden DollarGolden DollarGolden Dollar

#8 I GOT SILENT EGO (ML=5/1)
#2 KHAWLAH (ML=3/1)

I GOT SILENT EGO - This animal didn't run well on the soft turf in her last start at Woodbine. You may want to discount that effort. Taking a trip down the class scale; has the capability to make her presence felt. Two starts back coming off a brief layoff at Woodbine the animal looked good, but turned in a clunker the next time. Today I like the ability to bounce back off that dull effort with another nice event. KHAWLAH - Was in a $10,000 Claiming race at Woodbine last race out. That race had a class figure of 75 and she is moving down right here. A certain win candidate. Hernandez comes to ride after getting to know the filly in the last event. I think that a sprinter coming off a layoff will usually run her best in the 3rd or 4th start back. Have to give this filly a good chance. Ran a sharp race last time around the track within the last thirty days.

Vulnerable Contenders: #3 LAILAS PRINCESS (ML=4/1), #1 SHEZ A TEN I KNOW (ML=6/1), #9 BID'S KID (ML=8/1),

LAILAS PRINCESS - I can't play this continual non-winner. Gets the task finished from time to time. Will be tough for this horse to beat this field off of that last speed fig. Doubtful to improve enough to run a figure close enough to today's class figure, so put her on the possibly overvalued contestants list. SHEZ A TEN I KNOW - If you keep betting these sort of 'bridesmaid' types, you're going to be let down most of the time. BID'S KID - You always think this horse has a shot to be victorious, but she falls short often.

Ottawa RedBlacks vs. Montreal Alouettes Preview and Predictions 07-06-2018 in CFL

CFL Previews 3rd July 2018 by Gracenote
by Gracenote on 07/03/2018

The Montreal Alouettes look to post back-to-back victories for the first time since winning the final three games of 2016 when they host the Ottawa Redblacks on Friday. The Alouettes upended the Roughriders 23-17 on the road to halt a franchise-worst 13-game losing streak while handing coach Mike Sherman, who spent five successful seasons with the Green Bay Packers, his first CFL win, and hope to build off the victory by going over .500 for the first time in more than a year.

"We're excited we got a win and it's a stepping stone," Montreal running back Tyrell Sutton told reporters. "It's good to get the first win as it hadn't happened in a long time but we're not done." The Redblacks hope to bounce back from a 24-14 defeat to the Calgary Stampeders in Week 3. Ottawa looked like East Division contenders following a 40-17 rout of Saskatchewan, but came crashing down to earth after being held to one offensive touchdown against the Stampeders, and hope to keep pace with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats at the top of the division by beating Montreal for the fifth consecutive time. "I don't know what else to say about it other than I watched the film and I'm going to get better," Ottawa quarterback Trevor Harris told reporters. "I still believe in this team, I believe in myself and I believe in this offence."

TV: 7:30 p.m. ET, TSN

ABOUT THE REDBLACKS (1-1): Harris was held without a touchdown pass as he finished 13-of-29 for 135 yards and an interception in the loss to the Stampeders. Linebacker Kyries Hebert was suspended one game for his high hit on Calgary wide receiver DaVaris Daniels while defensive end Jonathan Newsome will also miss out on Friday because of an undisclosed injury with Andrew Marshall taking his spot. Defensive end A.C. Leonard is questionable after leaving the game in the first quarter with a knee injury while offensive linemen Nolan MacMillan and Jason Lauzon-Seguin could return to practice this week and play Friday.

ABOUT THE ALOUETTES (1-2): Montreal's first victory in 315 days came at a cost as starting quarterback Drew Willy suffered a neck injury and Jeff Mathews will likely be handed the task of leading the Alouettes to their first home win since Aug. 11, 2017. Mathews completed 8-of-12 passes for 98 yards in relief of Willy, who left the game in the third quarter, while Chris Williams had his best game since being traded to the Alouettes in the offseason as he caught three passes for 130 yards and a touchdown against Saskatchewan. Offensive lineman Philip Blake injured his knee against the Roughriders and will be replaced by Xavier Fulton for Friday's clash.

EXTRA POINTS

1. Ottawa has won eight of the last nine meetings with Montreal.

2. Alouettes K Boris Bede was named one of the CFL's Top Performers of the Week after making all five of his field goal attempts.

3. Redblacks RB William Powell is averaging a league-high 108.5 rushing yards per game.

PREDICTION: Redblacks 27, Alouettes 23

Cincinnati Reds vs. Chicago Cubs Preview and Predictions 07-06-2018

The Cincinnati Reds left the Chicago Cubs feeling low after sweeping a four-game series from June 21-24, but the Cubs have been riding high ever since. The Cubs have won a season-high six straight games to move a season-best 14 games above .500, and they'll try to continue their surge when they host the Reds for a three-game set starting Friday.

The Reds have a 6-3 edge in the season series, but all nine games have been played in Cincinnati. Meanwhile, the Cubs have won seven straight and 11 of 13 at home, where they're 26-14 and have won six straight series. Chicago's offense has been clicking of late, as the Cubs have scored five or more runs in eight straight games -- their longest streak since 2010. Cincinnati remains in last place in the National League Central despite having won 13 of its last 17 games.

TV: 2:20 p.m. ET, MLB Network, FS Ohio (Cincinnati), NBCS Chicago

PITCHING MATCHUP: Reds RH Tyler Mahle (6-6, 3.83 ERA) vs. Cubs LH Mike Montgomery (3-2, 3.55)

Mahle has won his last three decisions, and the Reds have won six of his last seven starts. The 23-year-old racked up a career-high 12 strikeouts while allowing three runs (one earned) over 5 2/3 innings in a no-decision last time out against Milwaukee. Mahle has faced the Cubs twice this season and is 1-1 with a 3.00 ERA.

Montgomery continues to fill in for the injured Yu Darvish and will make his eighth start. The 29-year-old allowed a total of four runs in his first five starts, but he has given up nine over his last two outings. Montgomery is 1-1 with 3.38 ERA in 14 games (four starts) against Cincinnati.
WALK-OFFS

1. Cubs 2B Javier Baez is 4-for-5 with a homer and a triple versus Mahle.

2. Reds 3B Eugenio Suarez is 11-for-32 during an eight-game hitting streak.

3. The Cubs lead the majors with 26 comeback wins, including each of their last seven victories.

PREDICTION: Cubs 6, Reds 4

Philadelphia Phillies vs. Pittsburgh Pirates Preview and Predictions 07-06-2018

The Philadelphia Phillies have exceeded expectations midway into the season, but manager Gabe Kapler isn't going to let his upstart team rest on its laurels. Residing 10 games over .500 for the first time since the end of the 2011 season, the Phillies (47-37) bid to win their fifth straight contest on Friday when they open a three-game series versus the Pittsburgh Pirates (40-46).

"I think it's a nice milestone and one that we can celebrate. We'll use it as fuel and motivation," Kapler said of Philadelphia's lofty standing after finishing the 2017 campaign with a 66-96 mark. The Phillies will be put to the test on Friday as they head west across the Keystone State to begin an 11-game, four-city trek in Pittsburgh, against which it swept a four-game series on April 19-22. The Pirates are licking their wounds to open their 11-game homestand after being pummeled in their final three contests of a six-game West Coast trip, surrendering 10 homers and 41 hits while getting outscored 31-8 by the Los Angeles Dodgers. "The game shows you where you need to improve," Pittsburgh manager Clint Hurdle said. "It gives you immediate feedback. We got a lot of immediate feedback."

TV: 7:05 p.m. ET, MLB Network, NBCS Philadelphia, AT&T SportsNet-Pittsburgh

PITCHING MATCHUP: Phillies RH Nick Pivetta (5-7, 4.66 ERA) vs. Pirates RH Trevor Williams (6-6, 4.22)

Pivetta snapped a seven-game winless skid in unexpected fashion Sunday, as he overcame one walk to pitch a scoreless 13th inning in a 4-3 victory over Washington. The 25-year-old exacted a measure of revenge after getting shellacked for seven runs on as many hits -- including three homers -- in a 17-7 romp by the Nationals last Friday. Pivetta aims to turn in his second strong outing against Pittsburgh, as he permitted two runs on five hits in 6 1/3 innings of a no-decision on April 22.

Williams suffered his second straight loss and fell to 1-4 in his last eight outings on Saturday after yielding four runs in 4 2/3 innings of a 4-3 setback to his hometown Padres. The 26-year-old San Diego native received the same fate as Pivetta when the two opposed each other on April 22, despite Williams allowing two runs on one hit -- albeit with five walks. Williams owns an 0-1 mark with a 3.86 ERA in two career starts versus the Phillies, although the current roster is batting 3-for-27 with seven strikeouts against him.

WALK-OFFS

1. Pittsburgh C Elias Diaz has recorded seven extra-base hits (five doubles, two homers) while batting safely in eight of his last nine games.

2. Phillies RF Nick Williams belted a two-run homer in Wednesday's 4-1 triumph over Baltimore to improve to 3-for-9 with four runs scored in his last three games.

3. Pirates 2B Josh Harrison is 1-for-16 in his last five games.

PREDICTION: Pirates 4, Phillies 2

Miami Marlins vs. Washington Nationals Preview and Predictions 07-06-2018

The Washington Nationals hope that a furious rally and a crucial win can give them some much-needed momentum as they continue a four-game series with the visiting Miami Marlins on Friday. The Nationals had dropped five straight and 15 of 19, and they fell behind the lowly Marlins 9-0 on Thursday before erupting for 14 runs across four innings in a 14-12 triumph.

"When we were down 7-0, I feel like we still for sure had a shot - 9-0, it hurts a little bit more, but we did it," shortstop Trea Turner told reporters. "I think once we got the first run on the board, it kind of just got the momentum back on our side and we continued to push. I think that's what we're capable of." Turner had a grand slam to highlight an eight-RBI performance as Washington extended its winning streak against the Marlins to 12 - its longest run against a single opponent since the franchise moved to the nation's capital in 2005. Southpaw Gio Gonzalez is suffering through a rocky stretch but has dominated the Marlins in his career, going 10-3 with a 1.85 ERA in 16 starts. He will be opposed on Friday by Dan Straily for Miami, which received homers from Martin Prado, Justin Bour and Brian Anderson in the slugfest.

TV: 7:05 p.m. ET, FS Florida (Miami), MASN (Washington)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Marlins RH Dan Straily (3-4, 4.70 ERA) vs. Nationals LH Gio Gonzalez (6-5, 3.77)

Straily has posted back-to-back quality starts, allowing six runs and nine hits across 13 1/3 innings combined. The 29-year-old served up seven home runs in 23 1/3 frames over his last five outings and 13 total, setting a pace similar to the one he has established over his last two seasons during which he surrendered 31 each time. He is 0-1 with a 4.03 ERA in five career starts against the Nationals.

Gonzalez has not produced a quality start in each of his last five turns after giving up three runs in five frames of a no-decision at Philadelphia on Sunday. He owns a 3.02 ERA in eight home starts but has not won at Nationals Park since May 21. J.T. Realmuto (6-for-21) and Starlin Castro (5-for-17) have enjoyed modest success against Gonzalez while Bour and Prado are a combined 4-for-24.
WALK-OFFS

1. Turner is 16-for-37 over an eight-game stretch.

2. The Marlins activated Prado from the 10-day disabled list, recalled RHP Ben Meyer from Triple-A New Orleans and placed RHP Tayron Guerrero (left lumbar strain) on the DL.

3. Washington placed RHP Erick Fedde (shoulder) on the DL and recalled RHP Jefry Rodriguez from Triple-A Syracuse.

New York Yankees vs. Toronto Blue Jays Preview and Predictions 07-06-2018

The New York Yankees are jockeying with bitter rival Boston for both first place in the American League East and the best record in the majors, but they will not play again at home until after the All-Star break. The Yankees kick off an 11-game road trip with the first of three at the division-rival Toronto Blue Jays on Friday night.

New York has won three straight series since they were swept at Tampa Bay, getting a three-run homer from the resurgent Giancarlo Stanton in Wednesday's 6-2 victory over Atlanta. Stanton, who is riding a five-game hitting streak, made his Yankee debut with a two-homer, four-RBI game at Toronto on Opening Day. The Yankees have won seven of 10 this season from the Blue Jays, who have dropped three of their last four after splitting a two-game interleague series with the New York Mets. Rookie shortstop Lourdes Gurriel Jr. drove in five runs against the Mets, giving him 13 RBIs in 24 major-league games.

TV: 7:07 p.m. ET, YES (New York), SNET, TVAS (Toronto)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Yankees RH Sonny Gray (5-6, 5.44 ERA) vs. Blue Jays RH Sam Gaviglio (2-2, 3.97)

The Yankees did not score in Gray's last two starts, although it wouldn't have mattered last time out -- he was pounded by Boston for six runs over a season-low 2 1/3 innings. He also lost his previous turn at Tampa Bay after permitting four runs in 6 2/3 innings. Gray, who owns a 1.88 ERA in seven starts at Rogers Centre, blanked the Blue Jays on two hits over eight scoreless innings on June 6.

Gaviglio matched his season high by pitching seven innings in a no-decision against Detroit on June 30, allowing three runs and four hits, including a pair of home runs. He had failed to get through five innings in each of his previous three turns and is seeking his first victory since May 25 at Philadelphia. Gaviglio stymied the Yankees with seven scoreless innings of three-hit ball last month.

WALK-OFFS

1. Yankees RF Aaron Judge had 10 homers in 18 games versus Toronto in 2017 but is 8-for-35 with three blasts in this year's series.

2. Blue Jays DH Kendrys Morales snapped a 1-for-19 rut with three hits Wednesday, including a homer and double.

3. The Yankees placed 2B Gleyber Torres on the 10-day disabled list Wednesday with a right hip strain.

Tampa Bay Rays vs. New York Mets Preview and Predictions 07-06-2018

The frustration continues to bubble over for the New York Mets and no one is feeling it more than ace pitcher Jacob deGrom, who will take the mound in the opener of a three-game series against the visiting Tampa Bay Rays on Friday night. Despite leading the major leagues in ERA, deGrom has won only once in his past eight starts for New York.

"I'm definitely frustrated," said deGrom after his last start. "I'm tired of losing to be honest. Everybody else in here I'm sure is. That's not what we want to do. We came here to win baseball games and we're not doing that. We have to find a way to do that." The Mets, who are kicking off a 10-game homestand that will take them into the All-Star break, have dropped 15 of their last 17 games at Citi Field. Tampa Bay used an impressive 8-1 homestand to climb above .500 before opening its six-game road trip by dropping two of three in Miami, with its lone win taxing its pitching staff after lasting 16 innings. "We've got some guys who are going to really appreciate the off-day," Rays manager Kevin Cash said. "After that, going into New York, we should be in a much better spot."

TV: 7:10 p.m. ET, FS Sun (Tampa Bay), SNY (New York)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Rays RH Ryne Stanek (1-2, 1.98 ERA) vs. Mets RH Jacob deGrom (5-4, 1.84)

Stanek has been superb while serving primarily as the designated "opener" for the Rays, but his streak of 12 consecutive scoreless appearances ended in a relief loss at Miami on Monday. He bounced back with two spotless innings of relief the next day against the Marlins, striking out three. Although they are abbreviated outings, Stanek is the only pitcher in history with seven straight scoreless starts.

DeGrom lost his second straight outing despite registering his ninth consecutive quality start last time out, giving up three runs on six hits over six innings at Miami. He has made eight starts at home, posting a 2-2 mark despite a 1.90 ERA and .199 batting average against. Carlos Gomez is 4-for-10 against deGrom, who pitched 6 1/3 innings of two-run ball in his only start versus the Rays.

WALK-OFFS

1. Gomez went 0-for-9 in Miami and took out his frustrations by smashing a water cooler in the dugout.

2. Mets SS Asdrbal Cabrera has three homers and seven RBIs while hitting safely in eight of his last nine games.

3. Rays RH Chris Archer could rejoin the team Monday after making one rehab start.

Oakland Athletics vs. Cleveland Indians Preview and Predictions 07-06-2018

The Oakland Athletics are one of the hottest teams in the majors, having won eight of nine to move a season-high nine games over .500. The surging Athletics (48-39) aim to continue their torrid stretch on Friday when they begin a stretch of 10 straight road contests with the opener of a three-game series against the Cleveland Indians (48-37).

Khris Davis went 5-for-10 with three doubles in last weekend's series versus Cleveland and is batting 10-for-27 during his seven-game hit streak. The 30-year-old, however, is a woeful 0-for-9 with seven strikeouts against Friday starter Carlos Carrasco, who will make his first start since being ushered to the disabled list after Joe Mauer's line drive drilled his throwing elbow in a game against Minnesota on June 16. Carrasco will be backed by an offense that has erupted for 33 runs during the Indians' four-game winning streak. Michael Brantley had an RBI double in Wednesday's 3-2 victory at Kansas City, giving him four RBIs and as many runs scored during his five-game hitting streak.

TV: 7:10 p.m. ET, MLB Network, NBCS California (Oakland), SportsTime Ohio (Cleveland)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Athletics RH Paul Blackburn (2-2, 6.46 ERA) vs. Indians RH Carlos Carrasco (8-5, 4.24)

Blackburn would love a repeat performance of his last outing against Cleveland, as he overcame a 47-pitch start in his first two innings to scatter three hits and strike out five in 6 1/3 scoreless frames in a 3-1 victory last Friday. The 24-year-old retired 14 of the final 15 batters he faced to finish his sterling outing that came on the heels of posting a 12.70 ERA in his previous three starts. Blackburn owns a 1-0 mark with a 2.19 ERA in two career starts against the Indians.

Carrasco tuned up for the series opener by tossing four scoreless innings in a rehab start for Double-A Akron on Saturday. "Carrasco came through everything really well on Saturday," manager Terry Francona told reporters. "He threw 65 pitches and went to the bullpen and threw a few more. He touched 97 mph, picked off a couple of guys. He texted me and said he's ready to go." The 31-year-old Venezuelan, who owns a 3-1 mark with a 2.61 ERA against Oakland, has flustered Marcus Semien (0-for-9) and Jed Lowrie (1-for-10).

WALK-OFFS

1. Cleveland SS Francisco Lindor went 6-for-12 with two homers, four RBIs and five runs scored in last weekend's series against Oakland.

2. Lowrie answered a five-game hitting streak by going 2-for-9 with six strikeouts over his last four contests.

3. Indians DH Edwin Encarnacion is mired in a 2-for-21 stretch, although one of the two hits left the park in a 15-3 romp at Oakland on Sunday.

Texas Rangers vs. Detroit Tigers Preview and Predictions 07-06-2018

The Texas Rangers opened their longest road trip of the season in winning fashion and will try to make it two in a row when they continue a four-game set at the Detroit Tigers on Friday. Joey Gallo and Ronald Guzman slugged two-run homers as the Rangers scored the game's first seven runs en route to a 7-5 win in Thursday's series opener and the first of 10 games on the road.

Texas has won 17 of the last 22 meetings between the teams and can clinch the season series for the fourth straight year with one victory in the final three matchups this weekend. The Tigers outhit the Rangers 12-8 on Thursday but still fell for the third straight time, sinking into third place in the American League Central at 12 games behind first-place Cleveland. Bartolo Colon seeks another milestone as he makes the start for the Rangers on Friday night opposite fellow right-hander Jordan Zimmermann. Colon picked up career win No. 245 his last time out, tying him with Dennis Martinez for the most victories by a Latin American-born player.

TV: 7:10 p.m. ET, FS Southwest (Texas), FS Detroit

PITCHING MATCHUP: Rangers RH Bartolo Colon (5-5, 4.76 ERA) vs. Tigers RH Jordan Zimmermann (3-0, 3.91)

Colon matched Martinez's mark by allowing three runs over five innings in a victory over the Chicago White Sox on Saturday. He has given up one home run over his last three turns after serving up 10 over his previous five outings. The 45-year-old has a 5.50 ERA in 13 career starts at Comerica Park.

Zimmermann gave up one run over 12 combined innings in his last two starts, striking out nine and walking just one. 2. Rangers RHP Chris Martin (groin) was placed on the 10-day disabled list and RHP Ricardo Rodriguez was recalled from Triple-A Round Rock.

Atlanta Braves vs. Milwaukee Brewers Preview and Predictions 07-06-2018

Being opportunistic is a key reason why the Milwaukee Brewers are in first place in the National League Central, and why they look for a second consecutive home victory Friday over the NL East-leading Atlanta Braves in the second game of a four-game series of division frontrunners. Milwaukee trailed 2-0 three hitters into Thursday's series opener but made the most of their seven hits in a 7-2 victory, giving the Brewers an NL-leading 52 victories on the season.

Third baseman Hernan Perez finished with three hits in the series opener - including a two-run homer in the eighth inning that extended the Brewers' streak of games with at least one longball to 11 - helping Milwaukee win for the fourth consecutive game and sixth time in its past eight games. The Braves have stumbled after winning the first four games of a 10-game road trip, losing their third consecutive game Thursday and mustering just one hit after the third inning. Atlanta continues to get great production from second baseman Ozzie Albies, who leads the NL in extra-base hits with 49 in his first full big-league season after finishing with a triple and a double Thursday. Albies is hitting .420 in his past 15 games and continues to spark the Braves' offense. Shortstop Dansby Swanson is one Atlanta hitter who is struggling, however, going 0-for-3 Thursday to drop his average to .212 over his last 36 games since May 27.

TV: 8:10 p.m. ET, FS South (Atlanta), FS Wisconsin (Milwaukee)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Braves RH Mike Foltynewicz (6-4, 2.02 ERA) vs. Brewers RH Freddy Peralta (3-1, 2.28)

Foltynewicz continues a breakthrough season that could result in an All-Star selection, entering Thursday second in the NL in ERA, hits per nine innings (5.966) and WAR for pitchers (2.8). The 26-year-old battled the heat for five innings but was "wildly effective" in the opinion of St. Louis hitter Kolten Wong, holding the Cardinals to one hit while striking out nine. Foltynewicz has limited opponents to two earned runs or fewer in 15 of his 16 starts, and owns a 0.87 ERA with 64 strikeouts in 52 innings in his past nine starts.

Peralta has been called up twice from the minors so far this season, and if he keeps pitching this well, he likely will not return to Triple-A Colorado Springs. The 22-year old already has two double-digit strikeout performances in his first five major-league starts and three outings of zero earned runs allowed (covering 18 2/3 innings in those outings). Peralta suffered his first big-league loss Sunday at Cincinnati, giving up three runs on five hits across five innings but has posted an 0.87 WHIP while averaging 13 strikeouts per nine innings.

WALK-OFFS

1. Atlanta 3B Johan Camargo went 0-for-3 Thursday, ending his 10-game hitting streak.

2. The Brewers activated 2B Tyler Saladino (left ankle sprain) from the disabled list before the game and designated INF Eric Sogard for assignment.

3. Atlanta's bullpen pitched four scoreless innings Thursday before RHP Dan Winkler gave up three runs in the eighth.

Baltimore Orioles vs. Minnesota Twins Preview and Predictions 07-06-2018

Coming off a miserable 1-8 road trip, the Minnesota Twins figure to have a solid grasp on whether they want to be buyers or sellers at the trade deadline later this month once they finish their 11-game homestand leading into the All-Star break. The Twins kicked off their extended stay in Minnesota the right way and attempt to win consecutive games on Friday, when they host the Baltimore Orioles for the second contest of their four-game series.

The Twins were within four games of the first place in the American League Central as recently as June 16, but a 4-12 stretch - combined with Cleveland's 12-4 record over the same span - had them staring at a 12-game deficit entering Thursday. Hosting league-worst Baltimore proved to be just what Minnesota needed to get back on track, as it snapped its six-game losing streak behind six strong innings from Aaron Slegers and a three-hit effort from fellow rookie Jake Cave. Jonathan Schoop batted .144 in June but may be on the verge of breaking out of his season-long funk, providing all of the offense in the Orioles' series-opening 5-2 loss to improve to 5-for-12 in his first three starts this month. Baltimore has dropped three of its four meetings with Minnesota this season, scoring a total of seven runs in those contests.

TV: 8:10 p.m. ET, MASN2 (Baltimore), FS North (Minnesota)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Orioles RH Dylan Bundy (6-7, 3.75 ERA) vs. Twins RH Lance Lynn (5-7, 5.49)

Bundy, who has been sidelined with an ankle injury since June 23, is expected to come off the disabled list in time to make the start and attempt to extend his three-game winning streak. The native of Oklahoma was sharp in his four outings last month, going 3-0 with a 1.98 ERA while posting a 0.92 WHIP and holding opposing hitters to a .186 average. Bundy produced one of his finest performances of the season on Opening Day against Minnesota, yielding five hits and striking out seven over seven scoreless frames.

Lynn will be happy to pitch somewhere besides Chicago after getting rocked in back-to-back losses, giving up five runs - four earned - over five innings against the White Sox on June 26 before surrendering seven runs in 1 2/3 frames Sunday versus the Cubs. The 31-year-old was much better in his six previous turns, going 4-1 with a 1.73 ERA. Mark Trumbo is 5-for-10 with three homers and six RBIs against Lynn, who is 1-1 with a 7.30 ERA in three career appearances (two starts) versus Baltimore.

WALK-OFFS

1. Twins 1B Joe Mauer went 0-for-4 in the series opener but only needs one double to move past Kirby Puckett (414) for the most in club history.

2. All 10 of Schoop's home runs this season have been solo shots.

3. Minnesota RHP Fernando Rodney nailed down his 318th career save on Thursday, tying former Twin Rick Aguilera for 20th place on the all-time list.

Chicago White Sox vs. Houston Astros Preview and Predictions 07-06-2018

The Houston Astros staged a dramatic comeback victory in the series opener and look to improve to 5-0 in the season set when they host the Chicago White Sox on Friday for the second of four contests. Yuli Gurriel's run-scoring single in the bottom of the ninth inning capped a two-run uprising as the Astros posted a 4-3 victory on Thursday.

Boston Red Sox vs. Kansas City Royals Preview and Predictions 07-06-2018 in MLB

George Springer delivered the game-tying single in the ninth and Jose Altuve hit a two-run homer in the fifth as the Astros won their third straight contest. Springer's key hit leaves him 6-for-70 over his last 19 games while the RBI was just his second during the lengthy slump. Chicago's Avisail Garcia was hitless in four at-bats in the opener to halt his 14-game hitting streak that was the longest current one in the majors. The White Sox have dropped six of their last eight contests and 15 of their last 21.

TV: 8:10 p.m. ET, NBCS Chicago, AT&T SportsNet-Southwest (Houston)

PITCHING MATCHUP: White Sox RH Reynaldo Lopez (4-5, 3.68 ERA) vs. Astros RH Lance McCullers Jr. (9-3, 3.55)

Lopez has won back-to-back starts and three of his last four decisions. The 24-year-old was victorious at Texas in his last outing - giving up two runs and seven hits in 6 1/3 innings - and is 2-1 with a 2.63 ERA in his last four turns on the road. Lopez allowed one run and four hits in five innings on April 22 in his lone career start against the Astros.

McCullers, who has won three straight decisions, blanked Tampa Bay on three hits over seven innings of a 1-0 win in his last turn. The 24-year-old has struck out 25 batters in 19 frames over his last three starts and 106 in 101 1/3 overall innings. 3. Houston SS Carlos Correa (back) won't come off the disabled list during this series but should be activated sometime next week.

Boston Red Sox vs. Kansas City Royals Preview and Predictions 07-06-2018

The Boston Red Sox own the best record in the majors at 30 games over .500 and just finished off a three-game sweep of the Washington Nationals to improve to 4-2 on their nine-game road trip. The Kansas City Royals, who host the Red Sox in the opener of a three-game series on Friday, are at the opposite end of the spectrum as they fight to avoid the worst record in baseball.

Boston improved to 31-17 on the road by sweeping the Nationals and are looking to go into the All-Star break on a high note with their last 10 games prior to the mid-summer classic against teams with losing records. "I'm proud of them," Red Sox manager Alex Cora told reporters of his players. "They show up every day, they prepare, they go about their business the right way, they enjoy winning and they don't get caught up in whatever's going on around us. They're focused on the task at hand. We know where we're at, but we still have a long way to go." The Royals are losers of six in a row and 18 of their last 21 and will spend the next few weeks as one of the more attractive selling candidates in front of the trade deadline. Veteran right-hander Jason Hammel will try to increase his trade value when he takes the mound on Friday opposite Boston ace Chris Sale.

TV: 8:15 p.m. ET, NESN (Boston), FS Kansas City

PITCHING MATCHUP: Red Sox LH Chris Sale (8-4, 2.41 ERA) vs. Royals RH Jason Hammel (2-10, 5.56)

Sale dominated the New York Yankees in his last outing on Saturday, yielding one hit and one walk while striking out 11 in seven scoreless frames. That marked the second straight scoreless outing for the Florida native, who is 3-0 with a 1.00 ERA and 44 strikeouts in his last four turns. Sale struck out six and surrendered one earned run in seven innings against Kansas City on May 1 but was held out of the decision.

Hammel is winless in his last six outings and was knocked around for six runs and 13 hits in six innings to suffer a loss at Seattle on Saturday. The 35-year-old allowed a total of 15 runs - 13 earned - and 19 hits across 10 innings in his last two starts. Hammel did not have much luck at Boston on April 30, when he was ripped for eight runs on eight hits and three walks in 4 2/3 frames to suffer a loss.

WALK-OFFS

1. Red Sox RHP Tyler Thornburg (shoulder) was activated from the DL on Wednesday and could make his team debut this weekend.

2. Kansas City 3B Mike Moustakas (back spasms) missed the last two games but could return Friday.

3. Boston 1B Mitch Moreland (back spasms) sat out Wednesday and is day-to-day.

San Diego Padres vs. Arizona Diamondbacks Preview and Predictions 07-06-2018

San Diego recorded a 6-3 victory in the series opener to drop the Diamondbacks to 1-6 on their string of 10 straight home games.

Arizona has allowed six or more runs in five of the losses and has fallen into a virtual first-place tie with the Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League West. Diamondbacks slugger Paul Goldschmidt struck out three times in five hitless at-bats in the opener and is 0-for-8 in his last two games after opening the month by going 7-for-11 with two homers and six RBIs. Wil Myers contributed two hits and two RBIs on Thursday for San Diego, which won for just the fourth time in 17 games. Austin Hedges went 2-for-4 with a homer and is 6-for-19 over his last six contests.

TV: 9:40 p.m. ET, FS San Diego, FS Arizona

PITCHING MATCHUP: Padres LH Joey Lucchesi (4-3, 3.26 ERA) vs. Diamondbacks RH Zack Godley (9-6, 5.07)

Lucchesi defeated Pittsburgh in his last turn as he gave up just one hit over five scoreless innings. The 25-year-old rookie lost to the Diamondbacks on April 22, when he yielded four runs on five hits and four walks in five frames. Lucchesi, who is starting on the road for just the fourth time, has posted a 1-1 record and 2.40 ERA in outings away from home.

Godley had his four-start winning streak halted in his last turn as he was torched by San Francisco. The 28-year-old surrendered seven runs on nine hits and five walks in four innings, marking the fourth time this season he has allowed at least five earned runs while pitching four or fewer frames. Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Los Angeles Angels Preview and Predictions 07-06-2018

The Los Angeles Dodgers attempt to remain undefeated this month when they begin a seven-game road trip on Friday with the opener of a three-game interleague series against the Los Angeles Angels. After ending June with three straight losses, the Dodgers have begun July with four consecutive wins - including a 6-4 triumph over Pittsburgh on Wednesday that concluded a 6-4 homestand.

The Angels' sputtering offense cost them another game Thursday as they dropped to .500 (44-44) with a 4-1 loss at Seattle. PITCHING MATCHUP: Dodgers RH Kenta Maeda (5-5, 3.36 ERA) vs. Angels RH Felix Pena (1-0, 3.71)

Maeda worked seven innings and registered nine strikeouts for the second straight start on Saturday but suffered a loss against Colorado despite giving up three runs - two earned - and five hits. The Rockies allowed just three runs during a three-game home sweep of San Francisco to move a game above the .500 mark. Colorado star Nolan Arenado (22 homers, 63 RBIs) is on a tear with nine blasts and 21 RBIs over his last 15 contests.

TV: 10:10 p.m. ET, AT&T SportsNet-Rocky Mountain (Colorado), ROOT Northwest (Seattle)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Rockies RH German Marquez (6-8, 5.14 ERA) vs. Mariners RH Felix Hernandez (8-6, 5.11)

Marquez was superb in a victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers in his last turn as he gave up one run and two hits with a season-high nine strikeouts over eight innings. The 23-year-old never has lost in July as he went 4-0 with a 3.51 ERA in five starts during the month last season. Marquez is limiting opposing batters to a .194 average in eight road starts while going 4-3 with a 2.76 ERA.

Hernandez has won back-to-back starts after going winless over his previous three outings. The 32-year-old is 4-3 both at home and on the road, but his ERA at Safeco Field (3.81) is much lower than his away mark of 6.65. Hernandez was victorious in his lone career start against the Rockies on Aug. 3, 2015, when he allowed four runs and 11 hits over 6 2/3 innings.

WALK-OFFS

1. Mariners RF Mitch Haniger (knee) was a late scratch on Thursday and will be re-evaluated on Friday.

2. Colorado RHP Bryan Shaw (calf) is slated to start a rehab assignment at Triple-A Albuquerque on Friday.

3. Seattle placed Mike Zunino (ankle) on the 10-day disabled list, recalled fellow C David Freitas from Triple-A Tacoma and released LHP Ariel Miranda (29 starts for the Mariners in 2017, one this season) from the same affiliate.

PREDICTION: Mariners 4, Rockies 3

St. Louis Cardinals vs. San Francisco Giants Preview and Predictions 07-06-2018

The St. Louis Cardinals hope to continue their success on their nine-game road trip when they visit the San Francisco Giants on Friday for the second contest of their four-game set. St. Louis rolled to an 11-2 victory in the series opener to improve to 3-1 on a trek that has seen it outscore its opponents 27-13.

The Cardinals registered a season-high 18 hits in Thursday's triumph, with Yadier Molina and Jedd Gyorko recording three apiece. Gyorko homered and collected a season-best five RBIs while Tommy Pham recorded two hits and drove in a run, making him 8-for-21 with seven RBIs over his last five contests. The Giants were limited to two hits in the opener as they suffered their fourth consecutive loss. Alen Hanson belted a two-run homer in the setback for San Francisco, which has scored a total of five runs during its slide.

TV: 10:15 p.m. ET, FS Midwest (St. Louis), NBCS Bay Area (San Francisco)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Cardinals RH John Gant (2-3, 3.92 ERA) vs. Giants RH Dereck Rodriguez (3-1, 3.16)

Gant will be making his sixth start of the season with hopes of bouncing back from a loss to Atlanta on Sunday in which he yielded four runs on four hits and three walks over 5 1/3 innings. The 25-year-old native of Georgia was much better in his previous outing as he limited Cleveland to one hit over seven scoreless frames to notch the win despite issuing five walks. Gant has made two relief appearances against San Francisco in his career, allowing one run and three hits in four innings.

Rodriguez extended his unbeaten streak to four starts on Saturday as he scattered six hits over 6 1/3 innings at Arizona to record the victory. The 26-year-old rookie from Texas has yet to lose at home, going 2-0 with a 2.50 ERA in three turns. Rodriguez, who never has faced St. Louis, has allowed fewer than three runs in four of his first six major-league starts.

WALK-OFFS

1. The Cardinals acquired LHP Elniery Garcia, who currently is on the disabled list, from Philadelphia for international cap space.

2. San Francisco activated RHP Johnny Cueto (elbow), who yielded five runs and 10 hits in five innings, from the 60-day disabled list Thursday and optioned 2B Kelby Tomlinson to Triple-A Sacramento.

3. St. Louis activated OF Dexter Fowler from the paternity list, placed OF Tyler O'Neill (hamstring) on the 10-day disabled list and optioned RHP Matt Bowman (finger) to Triple-A Memphis after activating him from the DL.

PREDICTION: Giants 4, Cardinals 2

Friday's Diamond Notes
Kevin Rogers

Hottest team: Cubs (7-1 last eight)

Chicago is one victory away from becoming the second National League to reach the 50-win mark. The Cubs are riding a six-game winning streak after pulling off a pair of interleague home sweeps over Minnesota and Detroit. The offense has been scorching the last eight games by scoring at least five runs in each of these contests, including reaching double-digits four times.

The Cubs are in a rare revenge spot after getting swept in a four-game series at Cincinnati in late June. The Reds invade Wrigley Field on Friday afternoon as Cincinnati has won four of five. Southpaw Mike Montgomery takes the mound for the Cubs looking to extend this hot streak as Chicago owns a 5-2 record in his past seven starts. Montgomery allowed four runs in six innings of work in an 8-6 loss to the Reds on June 24 as Cincinnati heads to Chicago for the first time this season.

Coldest team: Tigers (2-14 last 16)

Detroit returned home after getting swept in a two-game set at Wrigley Field and put together another loss in Thursday’s defeat to Texas. The Tigers have dropped five consecutive games at Comerica Park with their last home victory coming on June 14 against Minnesota. Due to the dreadful play of the White Sox and Royals, the Tigers have managed to sit in third place of the AL Central, but remain 12 games behind the Indians past the halfway point of the season.

Game 2 of the four-game set at Comerica Park takes place tonight as Jordan Zimmermann tries to get the Tigers in the win column. Zimmermann is coming off a solid effort in his last start at Toronto by scattering five hits and allowing one run in seven innings of a 9-1 blowout as a +175 underdog, but Detroit owns a 1-3 record in his four home starts.

Hottest pitcher: Dereck Rodriguez, Giants (3-1, 3.16 ERA)

The son of Ivan “Pudge” Rodriguez has delivered in short time since entering the San Francisco rotation in June. Rodriguez is unbeaten in his last four starts, while the right-hander has yielded one earned run in his previous 13.1 innings of work. Rodriguez delivered 6.1 shutout innings in a 7-0 trouncing of Arizona his last time out, but the Giants will be looking to snap a four-game losing streak on Friday against the Cardinals.

Coldest pitcher: Sonny Gray, Yankees (5-6, 5.44 ERA)

Things haven’t worked out well for the New York right-hander of late, as the Yankees have been shut out in each of Gray’s last two starts. In the losses to the Rays and Red Sox, Gray has been tagged for 13 hits and 10 runs in nine innings of work, while allowing six runs to Boston for the second time this season. Gray will try to turn things around at Toronto on Friday,

Biggest OVER run: Reds (6-1-1 last eight)

Cincinnati’s offense has caught fire of late as the Reds plated 20 runs in their series victory over the White Sox, while putting up 20 runs in the final two wins of their previous series against the Brewers. In the four-game sweep of the Cubs in late June, the Reds crossed home plate 31 times, while Cincinnati has scored fewer than four runs once in the last 17 games. The Reds square off with the Cubs this afternoon at Wrigley Field as Tyler Mahle heads to the mound, looking for his seventh win. Mahle has seen the UNDER connect in five of seven road starts this season.

Biggest UNDER run: Phillies (8-1 last nine)

Philadelphia welcomes in cross-state rival Pittsburgh tonight as the Phillies have allowed three runs or less during all four games of their current winning streak. The Phillies cashed the UNDER in eight of nine games on their recent homestand with the lone OVER coming in a 17-7 loss to the Nationals, but Philadelphia yielded eight runs to Washington in the other three matchups. Nick Pivetta tries to get on track for Philadelphia tonight as he was knocked around for seven runs in 1.2 innings in that 10-run defeat to Washington last Friday night. Philadelphia is on a 4-0 OVER run in Pivetta’s previous four starts, but the Phillies limited the Pirates to five runs in a four-game sweep at Citizens Bank Park in April.

Matchup to watch: Dodgers vs. Angels

The annual “Freeway Series” begins tonight in Anaheim as the Angels return home from a brutal road trip. The Halos posted a 3-7 record on its four-city road trip, capped off by a series loss against red-hot Seattle, while the Angels own a 3-9 mark in the past 12 games overall. The Dodgers are headed in the opposite direction by winning four straight games, including pulling off a dominating three-game sweep of the Pirates by outscoring Pittsburgh, 31-8.

Kenta Maeda takes the mound for the Dodgers in the opener as he is coming off a loss to the Rockies in his last start in spite of striking out nine batters in seven innings. The Dodgers own a 5-2 record in Maeda’s past seven trips to the mound, while posting a 7-0-1 mark to the UNDER in his previous eight starts overall. Last season, Maeda dominated the Angels as a -200 home favorite in a 4-0 victory as he tossed seven scoreless innings.

Felix Pena makes his fourth start for the Angels since entering the rotation in late June. The right-hander picked up his first win as an Angel in a 7-1 rout of the Orioles in his last outing as he went 5.1 innings and allowed five hits. The Halos have won six of their last eight home openers, while the two southern California rivals split four matchups in 2017.

Betcha didn’t know: The Marlins built a seemingly safe 9-0 lead over the Nationals on Thursday before melting down and falling, 14-12. Not only were Washington money-line winners ecstatic, but those that bet on the run-line with the Nats were also victorious. That victory marked Washington’s 12th consecutive win over Miami dating back to last season as 10 of those triumphs have come by two runs or more.

Biggest public favorite: Red Sox (-320) at Royals

Biggest public underdog: Braves (+115) at Brewers

Biggest line move: Twins (-118 to -135) vs. Orioles

Analysis

The games on Thursday and Friday nights were pretty cut and dry. The favorites and the home teams each covered, rather handily in the Friday contests, and there was a good amount of defense with the exception of one game.

Calgary (3-0) is off to its usual solid start, humbling Ottawa (1-1) in a 2016 Grey Cup rematch by a 24-14 margin to cover seven and a hook. The two teams played a defensive battle which saw just one quarter with more than 10 points, the final stanza. As such, the 'over' (56.5) was never seriously threatened. The RedBlacks are 0-4-2 SU in the past five regular-season meetings (yep, two ties), and 2-4 ATS in the past six. The RedBlacks do have that win in the Grey Cup against the Stamps, however.

Hamilton (2-1) is off to a solid start, winning and covering for a second straight game in a 31-17 victory over Winnipeg (1-2) behind QB Jeremiah Masoli. The former standout at Oregon has recorded eight straight 300-yard games, just in case you were wondering why Johnny Manziel isn't playing.

Edmonton (2-1) got off to a sluggish start in their divisional battle with BC Lions (1-1). In fact, the visitors fired out to an 11-0 lead thanks to some early miscues by the Eskimos. However, the Esks outscored the Lions 15-3 in the second quarter, and 24-8 in the second half to run away from the visitors and easily cover a 6 1/2-point number. Edmonton is having no problem putting points on the board, averaging 31.7 PPG through three outings. As you would imagine, the 'over' is a perfect 3-0.

The surprise of the weekend was in Regina, as Montreal (1-2) surprised Saskatchewan (1-2) by a 23-17, winning straight up as 10 1/2-point underdogs to make any moneyline bettors (+425) very happy.

Team Betting Notes and A Look Ahead

-- The red-hot Ti-Cats hit the road for Regina to try and keep the Roughriders down. Hamilton hasn't had luck against the Mean Green lately, getting swept in two non-covers last season. They have dropped three in a row in the series dating back to a 53-7 win in the Hammer back on Aug. 20, 2016. Hamilton's last win in Saskatchewan came in a 31-21 victory July 26, 2015 as 1 1/2-point road 'dogs.

-- The RedBlacks and Alouettes will play their first divisional games of the season in Week 4. Ottawa had its way with Montreal last season, sweeping all three meetings while also going 3-0 ATS. The 'under' cashed in each of the three contests, too. Montreal has dropped four in a row and went 0-4 ATS against Ottawa dating back to Aug. 19, 2016. The 'under' is also 5-1 in the past six meetings.

-- The Esks catch Toronto (0-2) coming off a bye. The Argos hope the rest does them some good. They're 0-2 SU/ATS so far, with an average of just 13.0 PPG on the board while allowing 34.0 PPG. The 'under' has hit in both contests. These sides split a pair of regular-season meetings last season, with both teams protecting their home field. The Argos are 1-4 SU/2-3 ATS across the past five in this series.

-- In Saturday's late game, the Lions and Bombers square off. Winnipeg has dominated this series of late, at least against the number, going 5-2 SU and 6-1 ATS in the past seven meetings. That includes a 3-1 SU/ATS mark in their past four home meetings with BC. The 'over' is an impressive 6-2 in the past eight in this series, too.

David Schwab

Friday, July 6

Ottawa RedBlacks (1-1 SU, 1-1 ATS) at Montreal Alouettes (1-2 SU, 1-2 ATS)
Point-spread: Ottawa -5 ½
Total: 48 ½

Game Overview

The RedBlacks blasted Saskatchewan in their season opener in Week 2 with Trevor Harris completing 26-of-36 passes for 345 yards and two scores. Against the best team in the CFL last Thursday night, Harris came back down to earth with 135 passing yards and one interception. He completed a dismal 44.8 percent of his 29 passing attempts. The lone bright spot was William Powell’s 123 yards rushing the ball on 13 carries. He has gained 217 yards on 32 carries in his first two games.

Montreal’s defense came to life in that Week 2 upset over the Roughriders after allowing a combined 78 points in the first two games this season. Quarterback Drew Willy left that game in the third quarter due to injury and his status for this game remains unknown. In his place, Jeff Mathews completed 8-of-12 passes for 98 yards. The Alouettes’ ground game was not a factor in the stunning upset with 32 yards on 16 rushing attempts.

Betting Trends

-- Ottawa has a SU 8-1 edge in the last nine meetings and it has covered the spread in its last five road games against the Alouettes. The total has stayed UNDER in all five of those games.

1* FREE Pick on White Sox +1.5 (+130)
I like the value here with Chicago on the +1.5 run line in Friday's contest against the Astros. Chicago should have won the opener, but blew a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the 9th and lost 4-3. I just think this series means a heck of a lot more to the White Sox than it does Houston and we will continue to see Chicago give the Astros a run for their money the rest of the series.
I like their chances here of keeping it close with Reynaldo Lopez on the mound. Lopez has been rock-solid in 2018, posting a 3.68 ERA in 17 starts. Last time out Lopez went on the road and held the Rangers to just 2 runs in 6 2/3 innings. He also was really good in his lone start against the Astros earlier this season, limiting Houston to just 1 run on 4 hits in 5 innings. Take Chicago +1.5!

Jack’s Free Pick Friday: Chicago Cubs -151
The Chicago Cubs have really turned it around since getting swept in a four-game series by the Reds for the first time since 1983. They have gone 7-1 in there last eight games overall, scoring at least 5 runs in all eight games, including 9 or more five times. Now they get a shot at revenge on the Reds with Cincinnati coming to town for this 3-game set.
I like the Cubs’ chances of winning Game 1 today thanks to their advantage on the mound. Mike Montgomery is 3-1 with a 2.43 ERA and 1.057 WHIP in seven starts this season. Montgomery is also 1-1 with a. 3.32 ERA and 1.154 WHIP in four career starts against Cincinnati.
Tyler Mahle is 6-6 with a 3.83 ERA and 1.418 WHIP in 17 starts this season for the Reds, including 4-3 with a 3.75 ERA and 1.599 WHIP in nine road starts. Mahle gave up 4 earned runs, 3 homers and 9 base runners in 6 innings in his last start against the Cubs on May 20th, taking the loss in a 1-6 home defeat.
The Cubs are averaging 8.8 runs per game in their last eight games. The Reds are 16-36 in their last 52 road games vs. a left-handed starter. Chicago is 6-0 in Montgomery’s last six starts during Game 1 of a series. Bet the Cubs Friday.

Game# 967-968
Play On: Under 9.5
Bartolo Colon of Texas has started 2 games against Detroit since 2017 and collected a stellar 2.38 ERA in those appearances. Colon has been substantially better on the road than at home this season. The veteran right-hander has gone 6-2 under the total thru 8 road starts while gathering a solid 1.20 WHIP. By the way, Detroit is 40-24 (62.5%) under the total in 2018 when facing right-handed starting pitchers. The Texas bullpen has also performed much better on the road than in Arlington while posting a shiny 2.49 ERA during away games.
Despite going over the total on Thursday, Detroit has seen 7 of their last 9 games go under. Detroit’s Jordan Zimmerman has been spectacular throughout his previous 5 starts by amassing a brilliant 1.55 ERA and 0.76 WHIP during that time frame. Zimmerman has displayed impeccable control in 2018 and has averaged just 1.0 walk issued per start. Meanwhile, he’ll be facing a Texas team on Friday which has gone 10-1 under the total during road games this season when facing a starting pitcher that averages 1.75 or fewer walks issued per start. Bet on this game to go under the total for my Friday 7/6 free pick of the day.

Take ‘Under’ Tampa Bay at N.Y. Mets (7 p.m., Friday, July 6)
We are having a profitable season in MLB to this point but I am looking to hit the jets in July. July and August have historically been my two best months on the diamond and I am looking for a solid run this week headed into the All-Star Break. The break can’t get here fast enough for the Mets, who are one of the worst teams in baseball. They are backing Jacob deGrom in this spot and deGrom has been one of the best starters in baseball. He has a 1.84 ERA on the season and a nearly 6-to-1 strikeout to walk ratio. But deGrom is actually coming off back-to-back starts allowing three runs. I think he is going to rebound – as much as someone can rebound from a quality start – and shut down the light-hitting Rays. Tampa Bay has been a dead ‘under’ bet over the last two weeks. They have gone ‘under’ in six straight and eight of 10 and their pitching ranks in the Top 10 in ERA and WHIP. The Rays are also No. 26 in scoring at just 3.87 runs per game. I see another tight, low-scoring game and I think that another outstanding effort from the Mets ace will go wasted.

Scott "The Bulldog" Rickenbach MLB Game #951 Friday Free Pick OVER the total in Chicago Cubs vs Cincinnati Reds @ 2:20 ET - With the wind blowing in at Wrigley Field this afternoon this total has opened up at a 7.5 in most shops. Of course the weather is impacting to hitting in this ball park but they don't call it the "friendly confines" for nothing. The fact is that it is a hitter-friendly venue and even when the wind is blowing in it has a great backdrop for the hitters in terms of seeing the ball well. Both of these lineups come into this match-up swinging the bats quite well. Of course that is a key reason the Reds have recorded only 2 unders in the past few weeks as they are on a 9-2-2 run to the over their last 13 games! As for the Cubs, they've averaged scoring 8.7 runs per game their last 8 games. They've scored at least 5 runs in all 8 of those games and the Reds have scored at least 4 runs in 16 of their last 17 games. You can see easily see why it is certainly more than reasonable to expect each team to get to 4 or 5 runs in this game! Note that Chicago's Mike Montgomery has given up 9 runs (7 earned) in his last two starts while the Reds Tyler Mahle has a lower ERA of late but a closer look at his stats shows reason for concern. Mahle has allowed 11 walks and 16 hits for a total of 27 baserunners in the 16 and 2/3 innings spanning his last 3 starts. The over is 15-7-1 in Reds games versus left-handed starters this season. 7 of the last 8 games between these teams have totaled at least 8 runs. In fact the average runs scored has been 10 runs. I would not be surprised to see double digits again here! Free Pick OVER the total in Chicago Cubs

MLB | Rays vs Mets
Play on: Mets -159 at GTBets

My free play is on the NY Mets at 7:10 ET. The Mets opened the season 11-1 but as I have often noted, New York is just 23-48 since that blazing start and its .324 winning percentage during that stretch puts them in a class with MLB's two-biggest season-long losers, Baltimore (.279) and Kansas City (.291). The Mets kick off a 10-game homestand tonight with the first of three against the Tampa Bays Rays, a stretch that will take them into the All-Star break. However, home has not been where the heart is in 2018, as the Mets have dropped 15 of their last 17 games at Citi Field. Meanwhile, Tampa Bay had used an impressive 8-1 homestand to climb above .500 at 42-41, before opening its six-game road trip by dropping two of three in Miami. The Rays come to Queens at 43-43 but in the AL East, that leaves them 15 games back of first-place Boston and 14 games back of the NY Yankees. Both teams were off Thursday, although each is headed in a different direction.
The Rays' lone win in Miami (Monday) took 16 innings and taxed its pitching staff. The Rays have become one of baseball's most pleasant surprises since implementing an unusual wrinkle into their starting rotation. Tampa Bay has the lowest ERA in the majors (2.81) since May 19 when it began utilizing an "opener" instead of a traditional starting pitcher in select games. The Rays have allowed three runs or fewer 25 times in the subsequent 43 games, 23 of which have been started by relief pitchers typically pitching three innings or fewer. Ryne Stanek (1-2, 1.98 ERA) will make his 10th start, by far the most among openers. He has a 1.42 ERA as a starter but has pitched longer than 1 2/3 innings just once.
The frustration continues to bubble over for the New York Mets and no one is feeling it more than ace pitcher Jacob deGrom (5-4, 1.84 ERA), who will take the mound in the opener of a three-game series. Despite leading the major leagues in ERA (1.84) plus a 1.02 WHIP and .208 BAA, deGrom has won only once in his last eight starts. He opened 3-0 through April 30 (team went 4-2) but the Mets are just 2-9 over his last 11 starts, leaving him 6-11, minus-$848 vs the moneyline.
The bottom line is this, deGrom has a 1.42 ERA over his last 13 starts, during which the Mets have gone 3-10. Can that kind of hard luck continue? He has made eight home starts, posting a 1.90 ERA and .199 batting average against. I'll also note that the Rays are just 4-5 in Stanek "openers." I'll take the Mets.
Good luck...Larry

MLB | Rays vs Mets
Play on: Rays +143 at betonline

ASA FREE PLAY on Tampa Bay Rays Money Line (+) over New York Mets, Friday at 7:10 PM ET

This is another classic "false favorite" as the Mets had lost 11 of their last 13 games overall before Wednesday's win. They're taking on a Rays team that had won 9 of their last 11 games overall before Wednesday's loss. New York is priced as a sizable favorite here even though Jacob deGrom has lost each of his last two starts. As strong as he has been all season the numbers speak for themselves. New York is 2-6 in his home starts and note also that deGrom has a rather unimpressive 4.50 ERA in his last two starts. Looks like the frustration of his season could finally be getting to him as he has not been as sharp in his last two outings. The Rays are expected to start Ryan Stanek here but it doesn't even matter whom starts because they've been using the "bullpen games" as a successful strategy this season. A few relievers will be involved in this one and, when the dust settles, we expect Tampa Bay to have improved on their 10-5 record this season in games where the total is set at 7 runs or less. Also, note that the Rays are 17-10 this season in games against teams with a losing record. As for the Mets, they are an awful 14-26 in home games this season. MLB | Orioles vs Twins
Play on: Twins -117 at BMaker

10* FREE MLB PICK (Twins -117)
I'll take my chances here with Minnesota at home against the Orioles. The Twins snapped a 6-game losing streak with a 5-2 win in the series opener against Baltimore on Thursday and I look for them to carry over that momentum into this one. The Orioles are a complete mess right now. They have lost 3 straight and are just 1-10 in their last 11. Baltimore has scored 2 or fewer runs in 6 of their last 7 games and when you can't score runs it's extremely tough to win, especially in the American League. The Twins will send out Lance Lynn, who struggled in his last two outings in Chicago against the White Sox and Cubs, but owns a 2.70 ERA in 7 home starts. Give me Minnesota -117!

DMack's Free Play for Friday, July 6, 2018 is on the Rockies/Mariners Under
Just a flow play here as the entire card is not very attractive and there is very little in the way of interest. German Marquez has been the weakest link in the Mariner rotation but he's never faced Seattle and should be able to get through the lineup twice without too much damage. The under is 7-2 in the Rockies L9 and the low is 8-3 in the Mariners L11. Don't necessarily see a lot of runs being scored here.

This play is based on an undisclosed totals system which has generated an ROI of 16% so far in 2018.
In addition we can note that Ariona right-hander Zack Godley (9-6, 5.07 ERA) beat the Padres in his only start against them this season, giving up two runs in a 6-2 victory on April 21. He gave up seven runs against the Giants his last time out, but under is 8-3-1 in Godley's last 12 starts after allowing five runs his previous start. San Diego southpaw Joey Lucchesi (4-3, 3.26 ERA) has allowed allowed just two hits through nine scoreless innings through his last two starts. Under is 8-3-3 in Diamondbacks' last 14 home games vs. a left-handed starter.
Under is 9-2-1 in Padres last 12 road games vs. a team with a winning record. Under is 5-2-1 in the last 8 meetings.
