The Walker Group Picks

# 5 ALWAYS SUNNY 5/1

# 8 RED HOT RIO 5/2

# 4 FANTASTIC COMMAND 6/1

ALWAYS SUNNY looks strong to best this field. Meeting a much softer field of horses than last time out. This horse could stun this field at a decent number. He has formidable class ratings, averaging 86, and has to be considered for this event. RED HOT RIO - The extreme drop in company can only help out this entrant this time around. Could best this group here, showing respectable figs of late. FANTASTIC COMMAND - This gelding looks good for this event since Anderson has a sharp winning percentage with horses going this distance. I expect a strong performance from this pony whose handler has one of the top ROI percentages with horses running at this distance and surface.

#7 MY BEST SHOT (ML=5/1)

MY BEST SHOT - This thoroughbred could be tough today, especially since Green rode last time around the track and now should be better acquainted with this one. Gelding looks like the lone speed here. He may turn the race into a procession.

Vulnerable Contenders: #6 DADDY'S GONE (ML=2/1), #5 MCKLINTOK (ML=7/2), #1 U COMPLETE ME (ML=4/1),

DADDY'S GONE - This favorite ran on Jul 9th and hasn't had a morning drill after that. MCKLINTOK - No good results for this horse in a short distance event over the last couple of months tells me that this gelding is in a formidable spot U COMPLETE ME - Hasn't hit the board in any short distance contests lately. Unlikely to see him doing it this time either. This mount ran a most unsatisfactory speed fig last race out. He shouldn't improve and will probably lose in today's race running that fig.

# 5 SCREEN VISION 6/1

# 7 CHIHULY 12/1

# 4 WINDYS RUNNIN GIRL 3/1

SCREEN VISION is my choice. With a nice Equibase class rating average of 64, has one of the most respectable class advantages in this group. The almost immediate return to the track points to a sound effort this time around. Last time out, this filly was up against a stronger crew. WINDYS RUNNIN GIRL - Will most likely go to the lead and could never look back. The winning percentage shown by horses entered by Fletcher running at this distance are the top in this group of animals.

#1 OFFLEE SILKIE (ML=8/1)
#2 EVEN ON THE RUN (ML=7/2)
#10 CLASS DISTINCTION (ML=8/1)

OFFLEE SILKIE - The August 15th event at Thistledown was at a class level of (77). Dropping down in class considerably, so she should be in a good position to win. Mejias and Hamm perform well when they combine forces. It's hard to beat a +82 return on investment for a jockey and trainer. EVEN ON THE RUN - I like that latest race on August 7th at Thistledown where she ended up first. CLASS DISTINCTION - Have to give this filly a shot. Ran a solid effort in the last race within the last month.

Vulnerable Contenders: #3 GRADUATION GIFT (ML=4/1), #4 DIVA'S KITTEN (ML=9/2), #7 LIL EGYPT (ML=6/1),

GRADUATION GIFT - This mare is always in the mix, but just doesn't get the job done. Hard to play her on the win end. DIVA'S KITTEN - You always think this horse has a shot to win, but she fails most of the time. More than enough races at Thistledown with no trips to the victory stand. LIL EGYPT - The Equibase speed figures continue to drop, 47/42/16. Not a healthy omen. This animal hasn't been around in either of her last couple of races around the track.

Washington Nationals vs. Philadelphia Phillies Preview and Predictions 08-27-2018 in MLB

MLB Previews 26th August 2018 by Gracenote
Nationals vs. Phillies Preview and Predictions

by Gracenote on 08/26/2018

The Philadelphia Phillies hold a slight edge in the season series against the Washington Nationals, however Ryan Zimmerman's two-run homer with two outs in the ninth inning last week left a sour taste in their mouths. The sputtering Phillies (70-60) look to get back on track on Monday as they begin a six-game homestand with the first of three contests against the Nationals (65-66).

Philadelphia, which resides three games behind National League East-leading Atlanta, had lost six of seven before Rhys Hoskins and Carlos Santana belted back-to-back home runs while Maikel Franco and Wilson Ramos each had two-run shots in Sunday's 8-3 romp versus Toronto. Hoskins went 4-for-12 with four RBIs and two runs scored against the Blue Jays after going 1-for-13 with five strikeouts in the previous series versus Washington. The Nationals followed Zimmerman's heroics in Wednesday's 8-7 win over Philadelphia with three straight shutout losses before erupting in Sunday's 15-0 shellacking of the New York Mets. Mark Reynolds launched his sixth career grand slam in a six-run ninth inning for the Nationals, who have won just five of 14 overall and six of 13 versus the Phillies this season.

TV: 7:05 p.m. ET, MASN2 (Washington), NBCS Philadelphia

PITCHING MATCHUP: Nationals RH Stephen Strasburg (6-7, 4.23 ERA) vs. Phillies RH Zach Eflin (9-4, 3.93)

Strasburg struggled in his first start since missing more than a month with a neck problem, surrendering five runs - including two homers - over four innings against Philadelphia on Wednesday. The 30-year-old, who will make his 200th major league appearance Monday, received a no-decision in that last outing and sports a 10-2 mark with a 2.48 ERA in 22 career starts versus the Phillies. Franco went deep in his last meeting with Strasburg and is 7-for-22 with two homers against the hurler.

Like Strasburg, Eflin struggled in that Wednesday encounter versus Washington as he permitted five runs on 10 hits over 3 1/3 frames of a no-decision. The 24-year-old pitched significantly better in his previous start against the Nationals, yielding two runs on six hits across five innings of a 12-2 romp. Bryce Harper is 4-for-6 with a pair of doubles against Eflin in his career.

WALK-OFFS

1. Ramos is 12-for-25 with seven extra-base hits (five doubles, triple, homer) and eight RBIs in six games since being acquired from Tampa Bay.

2. Washington SS Trea Turner is 19-for-50 with 13 runs scored in the season series against Philadelphia.

3. Phillies INF Asdrubal Cabrera is 5-for-10 with three runs scored in his last two games after going 2-for-23 in his previous six.

PREDICTION: Nationals 4, Phillies 1

Toronto Blue Jays vs. Baltimore Orioles Preview and Predictions 08-27-2018 in MLB

MLB Previews 27th August 2018 by Gracenote
Blue Jays vs. Orioles Preview and Predictions

by Gracenote on 08/27/2018

Kendrys Morales attempts to put his name in the record book while the Toronto Blue Jays look to continue their dominance in the season series when they visit the major league-worst Baltimore Orioles on Monday for the opener of their three-game set. Morales has homered in a franchise-record seven consecutive contests and hopes to match the major-league mark with a blast as Toronto seeks its 11th straight win over Baltimore.

The 35-year-old Cuban has belted eight homers during his streak, including a two-run shot in Sunday's 8-3 loss to Philadelphia that put him one game away from joining Dale Long (1956), Don Mattingly (1987) and Ken Griffey Jr. (1993) as the only players ever to go deep in eight contests in a row. Sunday's setback ended the Blue Jays' five-game winning streak, but they look to begin another against a team they have handled easily in 2018. Toronto is 12-1 overall versus the Orioles this year and has swept each of the last three series between the American League East rivals. Baltimore has lost eight straight contests overall and five in a row at home after being outscored 27-12 during a four-game sweep at the hands of the New York Yankees over the weekend.

TV: 7:05 p.m. ET, Sportsnet, TVA (Toronto), MASN (Baltimore)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Blue Jays RH Sam Gaviglio (3-6, 4.94 ERA) vs. Orioles RH David Hess (2-8, 5.50)

Gaviglio ended his 15-start winless streak on Tuesday, when he limited Baltimore to two runs and six hits over seven innings. The 28-year-old Oregonian had not been victorious since May 25 at Philadelphia in just his second turn of the season. Gaviglio also faced the Orioles on July 20 but did not factor in the decision after yielding four runs and seven hits in a career-high 7 2/3 frames.

Hess lost his seventh straight decision on Wednesday despite allowing just one run and three hits in a career-best seven innings at Toronto. The 25-year-old rookie from Tennessee also gave up one run over six frames in the capital of Ontario on June 7 but settled for a no-decision. Hess has made only four of his 13 starts at home and is 1-3 while surrendering 15 runs on 24 hits and seven walks across 22 innings at Camden Yards overall.

WALK-OFFS

1. The homer on Sunday by Morales, who is riding a 10-game hitting streak, was his team-leading 21st of the season and helped him break the franchise mark for consecutive contests with a blast set in 2001 by Jose Cruz Jr.

2. Baltimore rookie OF Cedric Mullins sat out Sunday's contest due to a sore hip flexor but hopes to be in the lineup for the series opener.

3. Toronto RHP Justin Shafer has allowed just one hit over five scoreless innings in his first three major-league appearances.

PREDICTION: Orioles 5, Blue Jays 2

Chicago White Sox vs. New York Yankees Preview and Predictions 08-27-2018 in MLB

MLB Previews 27th August 2018 by Gracenote
White Sox vs. Yankees Preview and Predictions

by Gracenote on 08/27/2018

The surging New York Yankees hope to continue making up ground in the American League East when they begin a seven-game homestand with the opener of a three-game series against the Chicago White Sox on Monday. The Yankees have won eight of their last nine contests and four straight after posting a 5-3 victory at Baltimore on Sunday to pull within six games of division-leading Boston.

Luke Voit homered Sunday for the third time in four games for New York and has gone 11-for-29 with nine RBIs in 10 contests since being acquired from St. Louis, while Miguel Andujar is 9-for-19 with six RBIs in his last four games. Masahiro Tanaka looks to reach double figures in wins for the fifth straight season since coming over from Japan when he takes the mound for the Yankees against the red-hot Carlos Rodon in the series opener. The White Sox are not in playoff contention, but they continue to show that they could be a factor next year as they've won three in a row and nine of their last 12 contests. Yolmer Sanchez has reached base in 14 straight contests for Chicago and Daniel Palka needs one homer to reach 20 in his rookie campaign after going deep in Sunday's 7-2 victory at Detroit.

TV: 7:05 p.m. ET, ESPN, WGN (Chicago), YES (New York)

PITCHING MATCHUP: White Sox LH Carlos Rodon (5-3, 2.71 ERA) vs. Yankees RH Masahiro Tanaka (9-4, 3.90)

Rodon has strung together eight straight quality starts while going 4-0, including wins against Minnesota and Detroit in his last two turns. The 25-year-old Floridian has posted a 1.75 ERA during his eight-game unbeaten streak that features three scoreless outings. Austin Romine is 2-for-3 with a double and a homer versus Rodon, who is 1-3 with a 7.11 ERA in four career games against the Yankees.

Tanaka has gone 0-2 over his last four starts but has limited opponents to fewer than three runs in three of those appearances. The 29-year-old native of Japan gave up one run on four hits and a walk in six innings at Miami on Tuesday but did not factor in the decision in the eventual 2-1 victory. Tanaka beat the White Sox twice last season while giving up three runs over 13 frames and is 4-0 with a lifetime 2.23 ERA versus the club.

WALK-OFFS

1. New York OF Giancarlo Stanton, who went 1-for-15 during the four-game sweep in Baltimore, needs one homer to become the fourth-fastest in major-league history to reach 300.

2. Chicago OF Adam Engel has gone 12-for-31 over his last nine games and is 1-for-1 with a walk against Tanaka.

3. The Yankees outscored the White Sox 18-6 during a three-game sweep in Chicago from Aug. 6-8.

PREDICTION: Yankees 4, White Sox 2

New York Mets vs. Chicago Cubs Preview and Predictions 08-27-2018 in MLB

MLB Previews 26th August 2018 by Gracenote
Mets vs. Cubs Preview and Predictions

by Gracenote on 08/26/2018

Daniel Murphy has hit the ground running since joining the Chicago Cubs, going 9-for-23 with two homers, five RBIs and five runs scored during a five-game hitting streak. Murphy looks to further ingratiate himself to the Windy City faithful while tormenting one of his former clubs on Monday as the Cubs (76-53) vie for their sixth straight win in the opener a three-game series against the visiting New York Mets (58-72).

Murphy recorded his fourth multi-hit performance since being acquired from Washington as Chicago completed a four-game sweep of Cincinnati with a resounding 9-0 romp on Sunday. The 33-year-old is 6-for-14 with two homers, eight RBIs and four runs scored against New York this season, although he is just 4-for-18 in his career versus Monday starter Noah Syndergaard. While the Cubs' winning streak has them four games ahead of St. Louis in the National League Central, the Mets enjoyed back-to-back 3-0 victories versus Washington before getting shellacked to the tune of 15-0 in the series finale on Sunday. Jeff McNeil is riding an 11-game hitting streak, but his availability for the series opener was not immediately known as he is nursing a tight right quad.

TV: 8:05 p.m. ET, SNY (New York), NBCS Chicago

PITCHING MATCHUP: Mets RH Noah Syndergaard (9-3, 3.38 ERA) vs. Cubs LH Jon Lester (14-5, 3.64)

Syndergaard posted his third win in four outings with arguably his best start this month on Wednesday, as he allowed two runs on five hits over six innings of a 5-3 victory versus San Francisco. The 25-year-old owns a 1-1 mark with a 2.00 ERA in three career starts against the Cubs, however he will be facing the club for the first time since 2016. Syndergaard has flustered Anthony Rizzo (1-for-7, four strikeouts) in his career.

Lester answered a disastrous start on Aug. 11 with two stellar ones, as he struck out eight and scattered five hits over six innings of a 1-0 triumph at Pittsburgh five days later before allowing one run across 5 2/3 innings of an 8-2 rout at Detroit on Wednesday. The 34-year-old aims to keep the good times rolling versus the Mets, as he surrendered two hits over seven frames in a 2-0 win on June 3 to improve his mark against the club to an impressive 6-1 with a 3.26 ERA in eight career starts. Lester has stymied Jay Bruce (3-for-26) and Jose Reyes (6-for-34), although Wilmer Flores has gotten his licks in by going 5-for-13 with three homers versus the hurler.

Athletics vs. Astros Preview and Predictions

by Gracenote on 08/26/2018

The race for the American League West crown takes on a head-to-head form this week, with the Houston Astros hosting the Oakland Athletics on Monday for the opener of their three-game series. The Astros own a 1 1/2-game division lead over the Athletics heading into the set and come in hot with a five-game winning streak.

Houston (80-50) moved 30 games over .500 by sweeping the Los Angeles Angels over the weekend to cap a nine-game road trip and will play its next 10 contests at home as it tries to create some separation in the West. The Astros are thriving behind the healthy return of reigning AL MVP Jose Altuve, who is 7-for-20 with a homer, three RBIs and four runs scored in five games since missing nearly four weeks while on the disabled list for the first time in his career. The Athletics did not have to deal with Altuve while winning two of three against Houston from Aug. 17-19 and got their road trip started over the weekend by taking three of four at Minnesota. Oakland will try to chip a game off its deficit in the AL West behind Brett Anderson on Monday while the Astros counter with All-Star Gerrit Cole.

TV: 8:10 p.m. ET, NBCS California (Oakland), AT&T SportsNet-Southwest (Houston)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Athletics LH Brett Anderson (3-3, 3.47 ERA) vs. Astros RH Gerrit Cole (11-5, 2.73)

Anderson is thriving this month, allowing a total of two runs over 26 2/3 innings in four starts. The lone win in that span came on Tuesday, when the 30-year-old Texan yielded one hit and a walk while striking out six in seven scoreless innings against his home-state Rangers. Anderson suffered through his worst start of the season at home against Houston on May 7 as he was ripped for nine runs - seven earned - and 10 hits in three innings of a loss.

Cole (226) is looking to take over the AL strikeout lead from teammate Justin Verlander (229) as he needs four against the Athletics, which would represent his lowest total of the season. The 27-year-old Californian struck out 12 over six innings in a victory over Colorado on Aug. 15 and fanned seven over five frames in a no-decision at Seattle last Monday. Cole registered 11 strikeouts in six scoreless innings against Oakland on July 9 but did not factor in the decision.

WALK-OFFS

1. The Athletics placed LHP Sean Manaea (shoulder) on the 10-day disabled list on Sunday.

2. Houston 3B Alex Bregman has hit safely in each of his last seven games and scored at least one run in four straight.

3. Oakland 3B Matt Chapman has gone 9-for-19 with three homers, five RBIs and four runs scored in his last four contests.

PREDICTION: Astros 4, Athletics 3

Rockies vs. Angels Preview and Predictions

by Gracenote on 08/26/2018

The Los Angeles Angels have been in the habit of helping winning teams on their respective quests to the playoffs recently, and the Colorado Rockies are hoping to be the next beneficiaries. The Rockies will try to take advantage of the slumping Angels and gain ground in the National League West when Los Angeles visits for the opener of a two-game interleague series on Monday.

Colorado enters the set one game behind first-place Arizona in the NL West and Milwaukee for the second wild-card spot after dropping two of three to St. Louis over the weekend. The Rockies will play their next nine contests against teams with sub-.500 records as they not only chase the Diamondbacks in the NL West but try to hold off the Los Angeles Dodgers, who are just 1 1/2 games behind them. The Angels did not do Colorado any favors by losing twice against Arizona last week and followed by getting swept by AL West-leading Houston over the weekend. The club will try to stop its slide at six games behind Odrisamer Despaigne on Monday while the Rockies counter with Jon Gray.

TV: 10:07 p.m. ET, ESPN, AT&T SportsNet-Rocky Mountain (Colorado), FS West (Los Angeles)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Rockies RH Jon Gray (10-7, 4.67 ERA) vs. Angels RH Odrisamer Despaigne (2-2, 6.35)

Colorado has won the last nine games started by Gray, matching the franchise record for a starting pitcher set by Ubaldo Jimenez. Gray has gone 4-0 in that span and recorded a win last time out against San Diego as he allowed two runs on five hits and a walk while striking out five in 6 1/3 innings. The native of Oklahoma worked seven scoreless frames against the Angels at home on May 8, scattering four hits en route to victory.

Despaigne is 0-2 with a 9.00 ERA in two starts since joining the Angels, lasting only four innings in each of those turns. The 31-year-old Cuban was reached for three runs and five hits at Arizona on Wednesday, but the Angels' offense could not manufacture any support in a 5-1 setback. Despaigne, who spent parts of four seasons in the NL with San Diego and Miami, is 3-0 with a 2.01 ERA in seven career games (three starts) versus Colorado.

WALK-OFFS

1. Colorado OF Matt Holiday homered on Saturday - his first blast with the club in almost 10 years - and has hit safely in his last three games.

2. Angels RHP-DH Shohei Ohtani (elbow) will throw a simulated game on Monday.

3. Angels 1B Albert Pujols is just 1-for-19 over his last six contests.

PREDICTION: Rockies 5, Angels 1

Diamondbacks vs. Giants Preview and Predictions

by Gracenote on 08/26/2018

The Arizona Diamondbacks are clinging to a one-game lead in the National League West as they begin a seven-game road trip that runs right into September. The Diamondbacks kick off their trek on Monday with the opener of a three-game set against the division-rival San Francisco Giants, who need to have a big series in order to avoid falling out of the NL playoff race entirely.

Arizona fell back into a tie for first in the NL West by dropping its first two contests against Seattle over the weekend but took the finale 5-2 on Sunday to move one game ahead of Colorado. The Diamondbacks are just 2 1/2 games ahead of the Los Angeles Dodgers and need to avoid looking ahead to a four-game set in Los Angeles that begins on Thursday. The Giants are eight games out in both the NL west and the wild-card race as they come off a series win over Texas during which rookie Steven Duggar registered two hits in Saturday's win and his first career triple in Sunday's 3-1 triumph. Duggar hopes to remain hot on Monday against Patrick Corbin while San Francisco counters with Chris Stratton.

TV: 10:15 p.m. ET, FS Arizona, NBCS Bay Area (San Francisco)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Diamondbacks LH Patrick Corbin (10-4, 3.17 ERA) vs. Giants RH Chris Stratton (8-7, 5.37)

Corbin has posted a 4-0 record over his last six starts but did not factor in the decision against the Los Angeles Angels on Tuesday despite allowing two runs while registering eight strikeouts in six innings. The 29-year-old has gone 11 outings without serving up a home run, tying the franchise record set by Miguel Batista. Corbin has yet to lose to San Francisco this season, going 3-0 with a 2.20 ERA in five starts.

Stratton is winless in his last six outings and has surrendered at least five earned runs in three of those outings. The 28-year-old posted a quality start last time out as he held the New York Mets to two runs on six hits without issuing a walk in 6 1/3 innings. Stratton was not at his best at Arizona on Aug. 3, when he was ripped for six runs on 10 hits and four walks in three frames.

WALK-OFFS

1. Giants C Buster Posey is scheduled to undergo season-ending hip surgery on Monday.

2. Arizona 1B Paul Goldschmidt has hit safely in 16 of his last 17 games.

3. San Francisco 2B Joe Panik has recorded multiple hits in five of his last eight contests.

PREDICTION: Diamondbacks 6, Giants 2

Atlanta Under 9-0 past nine games

Brave New World

The Atlanta Braves have been a friend to total bettors, hitting the 'under' in nine consecutive games. That includes seven straight road games, although they'll have to wait a while to extend that streak since they'll be opening up a new homestand against the Tampa Bay Rays starting on Tuesday. The under is 5-2 in Atlanta's past seven at home, too, so there is a good chance the run continues at SunTrust Park. They'll roll with RHP Julio Teheran for the series opener, opposed by RHP Ryne Stanek. The under has hit in three straight starts for Teheran since his last 'over' back on Aug. 5 at CitiField against the Mets. The under has also hit in five consecutive starts for Teheran at home dating back to June 23.

The Braves might find it difficult to cool off the Rays, who enter with eight consecutive victories. Atlanta won two of three against the Milwaukee Brewers to kick off their last homestand from Aug. 10-12, and they had a four-game sweep of the Miami Marlins Aug. 13-15 after that. However, they were left with a poor taste in their mouth after the Colorado Rockies broomed them in a four-game set to close out the homestand. The 'over' is 3-1 in Stanek's past four starts overall, and 3-1 in his past four on the road, too. The Rays are also a dismal 1-7 across Stanek's past eight assignments on the road, so Teheran and the Braves might be the play Tuesday evening in the interleague series opener.

In interleague play, the Rays have posted a 6-9 record in their previous 15 games against the NL this season, including 0-2 against the Braves back in a mini-set on May 8-9 at Tropicana Field. Atlanta hasn't been much better against the AL, going just 7-8 in 15 previous interleague battles this season.

Looking Ahead

Monday, Aug. 27

The Athletics head to Minute Maid Park to battle the Astros in a key American League West battle. The Astros are clinging to a 1 1/2-game lead in the AL West against the surprising A's. LHP Brett Anderson will take the ball for the A's, while the Astros counter with RHP Gerrit Cole. Oakland has won 17 of their past 22 games inside the division, while going 20-8 over the past 28 games on the road. In addition, Oakland is 22-9 in the past 31 road games vs. RHP, while going 40-19 in the past 59 overall against righties. The A's haven't fared well with Anderson on the bump lately, posting a 4-9 record across the lefty's past 13 against teams with a winning record.

The Astros have been stumbling at home lately, going 1-9 in their past 10 games at Minute Maid. They're just 1-4 in the past five against left-handed starters, while going 1-4 in their past five to kick off a new series, too. However, they are 4-0 in the past four vs. LHP, while going 5-0 in their past five games against AL West foes. Cole might be the guy to snap them out of their funk. While they are 0-4 in his past four against AL West clubs, and 1-4 in his past five overall, they have won seven of his past nine outings at home. Minute Maid has been a house of horrors for the A's lately, going 17-35 in the past 52 against the Astros overall, and 9-19 in the past 28 trips to the Gulf Coast.

The probable starters for Monday's series opener in San Francisco features Diamondbacks LHP Patrick Corbin facing Giants RHP Chris Stratton. Arizona has won four of their past five road games, while winning seven of the past 10 overall. They're 6-0 in Corbin's past six starts, and 7-1 in his past eight assignments on the road. In addition, they're an impressive 13-3 in the past 16 when Corbin is working on five days of rest. The Giants have struggled lately at home, winning just three of their past 12 against teams with a winning overall record. They're also 1-4 in their past five at home against a southpaw while posting a 1-6 mark in their past seven at AT&T Park against a team with a winning road record.

Weather Report

Precipitation will not be a problem during the short slate of games on Monday. However, winds will be a huge issue for the Mets and Cubs, as the wind will be blowing out to left-center field at a 16-19 mph clip. It's a battle of RHP Noah Syndergaard and LHP Jon Lester. The nder is 3-1-2 in Thor's past six road outings, while going 16-4-2 in his past 22 against winning teams. The under is 8-2 in Chicago's past 10, while going 19-7 in their past 26 vs. RHP. The over is 9-2 in Lester's past 11, and the wind could help add to that number.

Tuesday, Aug. 28

White Sox RHP James Shields will hit the road where he has been an absolute train wreck this season. The veteran is just 1-8 with a 6.12 ERA across 11 starts and one relief appearance over 67 2/3 innings while his opponent batting average is .271 with 16 homers allowed. Surprisingly, Shields is 2-0 with a 2.92 ERA in two starts against the Yankees since the start of the 2015 season.

Indians RHP Carlos Carrasco will take the ball from manager Terry Francona against the Twins. While he has posted an impressive 8-3 record in 11 starts and one relief appearance at home this season, he has a subpar 4.35 ERA over 62 innings while the opposition is hitting .273 against him. Cookie has struggled against the Twins, too, going 1-3 with a 4.56 ERA in five starts with a .275 opponent batting average across 25 2/3 innings.

Astros RHP Charlie Morton continues to roll right along with an 8-2 record, 3.00 ERA and .213 opponent batting average across 13 starts over 78 innings. He has struck out 100 batters in his 13 home outings, too. He hasn't been able to slay the A's, however, lasting just 9 1/3 innings in two starts with no decisions and a .263 opponent batting average.

Giants LHP Madison Bumgarner will host Diamondbacks RHP Clay Buchholz at AT&T Park. MadBum has been looking a lot like himself lately, going 3-2 with a 1.71 ERA in seven home outings with a .198 opponent batting average. He has served up just two of his nine homers at home, too, while striking out 42 batters across 47 1/3 innings. He's 1-1 with a 2.45 ERA in two outings against the Snakes this season, although they're hitting .333 against him in 11 innings with 15 hits and three walks.

Weather Report

The winds will be gusting out to right field from 11-14 mph at Progressive Field for the game between the Twins and Indians. The same holds true for the interleague battle between the Marlins and Red Sox, gusting 11-14 mph to right-center field. The Pirates and Cardinals will face a 10-13 mph wind blowing right to left, but no precip at least.

At Wrigley Field, the wind will be blowing out again from 11-14 mph, but the Mets and Cubs might be dodging the raindrops. Thunderstorms are forecast 40 percent or greater from first pitch through the overnight. The same holds true for the Tigers-Royals battle, with winds 13-16 mph blowing to center field. That is if the game is played, as there is a 50 percent or greater chance of thunderstorms for most of the day.

In Arlington, the Dodgers and Rangers will be blowing in from right-center field at 12-15 mph. It will be a hot wind, too, with temperatures forecast to be in the mid-90's. In the final game of the game, the D-Backs and Giants will face a 12-15 mph jetstream blowing out to straighaway center field.

Streaking and Slumping Starting Pitchers

Streaking: Brett Anderson, Oakland Athletics (3-3, 3.47, $298)

What a great run Brett Anderson is on right now for the A's. Keep in mind, any team could have had him as a member of their rotation for next to nothing - credit to the Athletics for seeing something that nobody else could see. The Under has cashed in nine of his last 10 starts and in his last four outings he owns an ERA of 0.68 and a WHIP of 0.525.

Anderson will need to be at his best Monday night as a +170 underdog in Houston against Gerrit Cole and the Astros.

Slumping: Chris Stratton, San Francisco Giants (8-7, 5.37 ERA, $449)

Giants' right-hander Chris Stratton is certainly feeling the grind of a long MLB season. After a solid first three months, Stratton has really struggled since the end of June. Over this stretch, which included a three-week long demotion to AAA, the Giants have lost all five of his big league starts and he owns an ERA of 8.89 and a WHIP of 2.0506.

Stratton will look to get things turned around tonight at home as a +160 underdog against Patrick Corbin and the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Kendrys Morales

Blue Jays' designated hitter Kendrys Morales will chase history tonight in Baltimore. Morales has hit a home run in seven straight games and will look to tie the major league record with a dinger against the Orioles.

O's starter David Hess has allowed at least one home run in five consecutuve starts, all four of his starts at Camden Yards this season, and 11 of his 13 starts overall in 2018. There will be a slight five mile per hour breeze blowing out to center field tonight, as well.

It's also worth noting that Morales homered in all three games of last week's three-game series between the Jays and Orioles at Rogers Centre in Toronto.

Online sportsbook Bookmaker.eu has released a home run line on Morales for tonight's game with Yes at +250 and No at -350. Obviously, hitting home runs is hard - but there is no fun in betting "No" in this spot. Root for history to be made and take "Yes" at +250.

The Windy City

It could be a windy evening in Wrigleyville as the forcast is calling for 16-18 mile per hour winds blowing out to left-center field tonight for the game between the Cubs and the visiting New York Mets.

This game does feature an elite pitching matchup of Noah Syndergaard taking on Jon Lester, but the wind will prove to be a major factor. If it wasn't for the terrific pitching matchup this total would be up around 11.5 or 12, instead we get a total of 10.5 which feels like a gift on a day like today.

The Cubs' offense is clicking on all cylinders right now with David Murphy setting the table at the top of the lineup. Today is one of those days when pop flies to left field end up in the home run basket. Take Over 10.5 for the full game and Cubs' team total Over 5.5 (+100).

Hot & Not Report

Week of August 27th

Last week this piece was all about looking ahead to the third week of the NFL preseason and unsurprisingly we saw some regression to the mean. We saw half of those long tenured coaches (New England, Green Bay, New Orleans, and Cincinnati) opt for rest with New England and Green Bay giving their starters just one final small tune-up with vanilla-game plans, while New Orleans and Cincinnati got the ATS job done in dominant fashion, largely due to their 2nd and 3rd teams.

On the other side of things, NFC teams at home hosting an AFC franchise ended up going 3-1 O/U against the closing line, although if you had got in on the low side of the Houston/L.A Rams game early last week (or say on Monday when this article comes out), you would've went 2-2 O/U.

Either way, using these trends and situations to help you isolate games is never a bad thing, but with garbage time of all garbage times coming (from a betting perspective) with the final week of the preseason here, it's time to shift back over to MLB this week as we enter the final month of the regular season.

Who's Hot

MLB teams in tight division races (AL West, NL West, NL Central)

September will be a very interesting month of baseball to consume as we've got some tremendous division races in numerous divisions. The bulk of those exist in the National League where no division leader enters Monday with more than a four-game lead, but we can't forget about the AL West race either with Houston looking to do everything they can to hold off Oakland. All of the teams involved in these races are playing some great baseball right now, so who can stay hot the longest?

Over in the NL Central we've got the Cubs, Cardinals and Brewers all fighting for that top spot, and the Cubs and Cardinals enter Monday on 7-3 SU runs respectively. Chicago and St Louis begin this week at home with very winnable series against the Mets and Pirates on tap, but for the division-leading Cubs, this also continues a long stretch of games without a day off.

Chicago had last Monday off, but after finishing the week with six straight games, they won't see another day off until Thursday September 14th. That's a stretch of 23 games in 23 days and outside of this series against the Mets, the rest of their contests come against some quality foes (Atlanta, Philly, Milwaukee (twice) and Washington) with the bulk of those games also being away from home. Fatigue could easily catch up with them at some point, so don't be surprised to see the NL Central race get quite a bit tighter in the upcoming weeks.

Over in the NL West, we've got division leader Arizona on a 7-3 SU run as well to start the week, a run that is matched by 2nd place Colorado. The L.A Dodgers are just one game off that mark (6-4 SU) as they trail Arizona by 2.5 games for 1st, and you'd better believe that this race could easily come down to the final day.

All three teams begin this week on the road with two of them (Colorado and L.A) involved in interleague play. Arizona visits San Francisco which should have some intensity too it, but I'm not really willing to step in front of any of these three teams at the moment. We will see how it all plays out – especially since Arizona concludes the week with a four-game series against the Dodgers in L.A – however, all three should be good bets at certain prices in certain spots, and of the three, riding with Colorado during the next week to 10 days might be the healthiest way to treat your bankroll.

Who's Not

The Baltimore Orioles against the Toronto Blue Jays (0-10 SU last 10 vs Toronto, 1-12 SU in season series)

The Baltimore Orioles have been a disaster the entire year, but they tend to at least be competitive in a game or two in nearly every series. The exception to that has been when the Toronto Blue Jays are on the other side of the field as Toronto has swept the Orioles in three consecutive series' and begin this week in Baltimore for a three-game set.

Now, the side note to this 0-10 SU run the Orioles are on against the Jays is that all 10 of those games were played north of the border, but in the lone series this year where Baltimore was the home team they were nearly swept as well. For whatever reason the Orioles just have no interest in even competing most nights against the Jays, but I do see this trend turning around somewhat this week. We've already seen a bit of reverse line movement in favor of Baltimore for tonight's series opener, and you've got to believe that at home they'll show a better form of themselves against the blue birds.

For Baltimore to turn this thing around, it's got to start with their pitching though. Toronto has scored 5 or more runs in eight of those 10 consecutive wins over Baltimore and the Orioles simply don't have the talent or depth in their lineup to consistently win games by putting up 6+. Yet, it's not like the Jays are playoff bound either as they will be making some significant changes this winter, but I do believe Baltimore will get some measure of revenge against Toronto in the final six meetings with the Jays this year (all six are in Baltimore) and it begins tonight with the Orioles snapping an eight-game losing streak.

Remember when the Nationals shut Strasburg down for the season in the middle of a pennant race because they thought his Hall Of Fame potential was more valuable than trying to win that season? They must regret that more and more every time he takes the mound. Between his injuries, sudden lack of velocity and overall results the only reason he's not in the minors is the Nationals don't want to admit he may never be the ace they envisioned.
All is not lost for the Nationals in this game though. Philly starter Zach Eflin has consistently done two things this summer. Walks, followed by bases-clearing home runs. Both bullpens get the call early. Take The OVER

Houston is riding a 5-game winning streak heading into their much anticipated series against the A's and I look for them to easily secure a win in the opener. The Astros haven't lost since they got back Jose Altuve from the DL and they are expected to get back outfielder George Springer for this one.
Houston's offense has come alive, averaging 6.6 runs/game and hitting .305 as a team over their last 7 games. Look for them to put up a big number against the A's Brett Anderson, who has a mere 4.06 ERA and 1.354 WHIP in 8 road starts. He also has a 6.00 ERA and 1.800 WHIP in 3 starts against the Astros.
Houston will counter with Gerrit Cole, who has a 2.67 ERA and 0.927 WHIP in 12 home starts. He's also got a 2.84 ERA and 1.074 WHIP in 5 career starts against the A's. Astros have won 7 of his last 9 starts. They are also 8-2 in their last 10 home games after a road trip of 7 or more days. Take Houston!

Jack’s Free Pick Monday: Washington Nationals -113
The Washington Nationals are still holding out hope that they can make a run in the NL East over the final month of the season. They sit at 65-66, 8.5 games back of the Braves for 1st place and only 5.5 games back of the Phillies, who they play in a 3-game series starting Monday.
Stephen Strasburg has been at his best on the road this season, going 4-2 with a 2.33 ERA and 1.060 WHIP in six starts away from home. Strasburg owns the Phillies, going 10-2 with a 2.48 ERA and 0.896 WHIP in 22 career starts against them. Better yet, Strasburg has a 1.45 ERA in eight career starts at Citizens Bank Park.
Zach Eflin is 9-4 with a 3.93 ERA in 18 starts for the Phillies this season, but 1-1 with a 5.62 ERA and 1.750 WHIP in his last three starts. One of those was against Washington on August 22nd as he allowed 5 runs and 12 base runners in 3 1/3 innings. Eflin has posted a 6.48 ERA and 2.281 WHIP in two career starts against Washington.
The Nationals are 60-22 in Strasburg’s last 82 road starts, including 24-7 in his 31 road starts over the past two seasons. The Phillies are 2-6 in their last eight games overall. Philadelphia is 0-6 in its last six during Game 1 of a series. The Phillies are 2-5 in Efflin’s last seven starts. Bet the Nationals Monday.

The Astros own a 1 1/2-game division lead over the Athletics heading into the set and come in hot with a five-game winning streak.

MLB | OAK vs HOU
Play on: UNDER 8 -101

My free play is on Oak/Hou Under at 8:10 ET. The Houston Astros swept the LA Angels in a three-game series in Anaheim this past weekend and at 80-50, own a 1 1/2-game division lead over the 79-52 Oakland Athletics heading into the opener of their three-game series with this AL West rival. Houston begins a 10-game homestand on a five-game winning streak with hopes of creating some separation in the division. The A's will finish up a seven-game road trip with these three games in Houston, after taking three of four in Minnesota. The A's were just 34-36 in mid-June but they've gone 38-23, since.
Oakland lefty Brett Anderson (3-3, 3.47 ERA )will get the nod in tonight's opener. Anderson takes the mound having allowed a total of just two runs over 26 2/3 innings in four starts. However, the lone win in that span came last Tuesday, when he allowed just one hit and a walk while striking out six in seven scoreless innings of a win against Rangers. Cause for concern resides in the fact that Anderson is 1-2 with a 5.50 ERA in four career starts (three starts) against the Astros, including him allowing nine runs (seven earned), 10 hits and three walks in three innings of a 16-2 home loss on May 7 that qualifies as his worst start of 2018.
Gerrit Cole (11-5, 2.73 ERA) starts for Houston and his first season with the Astros has been impressive. He not only owns an excellent ERA but also a 1.01 WHIP and a .194 BAA. Cole (226) can take over the AL strikeout lead from teammate Justin Verlander (229) tonight, as he needs only four against the A's. Cole is 2-1 with a 2.84 ERA in five career starts against Oakland, including 2-0 with a 2.92 ERA in four starts this season (Astros are 3-1).
This is an important series and I expect a low-scoring contest. Anderson comes in off consecutive scoreless starts plus owns an 0.68 ERA in August. The Astros are an impressive 18-8 in Cole's 26 starts in 2018 and after throwing at least 100 pitches in eight consecutive starts through his final appearance of July, he has yet to reach the 100-pitch plateau this month, averaging 94.2 in his four starts. He takes the mound tonight with an extra day of rest. Play the Under.

Nationals/Phillies 7:05: Nationals' bats broke out yesterday and will need to pick it up for struggling Strasburg who is dealing with a pinched nerve as a result of lingering shoulder issues. Strasburg hasn't been the same since he hurt his shoulder back in June; nevertheless, he's a competitor and his mates desperately need him to get some quality innings tonight. Nationals are a strong 17-5 in Strasburg starts, including 9-2 on the road. Strasburg does good work on Mondays (7-1) and pitched well in Philly (5-1 w/ 2.35 ERA). He is catching a Phillies team on a 2-6 slide. Philadelphia is not a good Monday team at 1-5 and struggled in their last six series in Game 1 at 0-6. And Efflin has not been on his game lately including lit up at Washington August 22nd. We'll tread lightly on the Nationals tonight.

10* FREE MLB PICK (Phillies +107)
I'l take my chances here with the Phillies at home against the Nationals. Washington is getting way too much respect here with Stephen Strasburg on the mound. He's only made two starts since June 8th. The most recent was on 8/22 against Philadelphia and was rocked for 5 runs on 7 hits in just 4 innings of work. I look for those struggles to continue here with the Phillies swinging a hot bat, having scored 14 runs on 27 hits in their last 2 games. Philadelphia will also have Zack Eflin on the mound, who is 6-1 with a solid 3.51 ERA and 1.109 WHIP in 8 home starts. Give me the Phillies +107!

#MLB FREE PICK FROM MIKE LUNDIN
The Philadelphia Phillies have not won a series since sweeping the Miami Marlins in early August, but they're coming off an 8-3 triumph over Toronto Sunday afternoon and I think they'll carry the momentum over to this matchup with the Washington Nationals.
Note that the Nats are just 32-35 on the road while the Phillies are 41-22 at home on the season and 15-5 in their last 20 home games vs. a team with a losing road record.
Washington right-hander Stephen Strasburg (6-7, 4.23 ERA) was knocked around for five runs on seven hits in four innings against Philadelphia last week. It was his first start of the month after coming off the DL due to a neck issue and Strasburg has posted an 8.83 ERA in his last four starts.
Philly right-hander Zach Eflin (9-4, 3.93 ERA) allowed five runs (four earned) and 10 hits in 3 1/3 innings at Washington last week but he's 6-1 behind a 3.51 ERA in eight starts home at Citizens Bank Park on the season. Phillies are 5-1 in Eflin's last 6 home starts.
Philly have won five of the last six when hosting the Nats.

MIT Simulator MLB Monday Free Pick: New York Mets +125: The Mets are off of a very ugly blowout loss at home yesterday but had been playing some of their best baseball of the season. The Cubs are off of an easy home rout win versus the Reds on Sunday and could be primed for a letdown here. Chicago goes from facing a pitcher, Homer Bailey, whom is having a disastrous season to now facing a hurler in top form. The Mets hand the ball to Noah Syndergaard and he is 9-3 with a 3.38 ERA this season. New York has won 12 of his 18 starts. As for the Cubs, Jon Lester gets the start here and Chicago is an ugly 1-3 in his last 4 home starts. The southpaw has given up 22 earned runs in the 17.2 innings over his last home 4 starts. With the Cubs off of a 9-0 win and the Mets off of a 15-0 loss yesterday, the "zig-zag theory" is in full effect here by a combined margin of 24-0. The comeback price on the money line (small underdog) is where the value is here per the simulation forecast from MIT
