The WNBA playoffs are a best of five series and not a best of seven. With that said, it's essentially now or never for the Atlanta Dream as if they go down 0-2, we don't envision a way for them to win the series. Look, Atlanta has been a strong defensive team all year long, but in Game 1 against Washington, they allowed the Mystics to shoot over 40 percent from beyond the arc. The Mystics also went perfect from the free-throw line, hitting 20/20. That will not happen again. If the Dream could have upped their own FT percentage, 16/22 for 73 %, we may be talking about a 1-0 series lead for Atlanta. At the end of the day, the Dream will be a desperate team and we expect them to clamp down defensively and force Washington into taking bad shots. It's very rare that a team has a light-out shooting performance on back-to-back games. The under is 4-1 in the Mystics last 5 vs a team with a winning record, while the under has hit in 4 of the last 5 Dream games following an ATS loss, and in 7 of the last 9 games while playing on 1 day rest. The saying ?defense wins champions? will need to be as true as ever for the Dream who will look to even the series on the heels of a good defensive effort

For Tuesday, Raise The Bar 1500♦ is the Milwaukee Brewers with Guerra over the Cincinnati Reds with DeSciafani. At 8:00 am eastern time, the Brewers are -120 in Vegas and offshore.


The Brewers could certainly use a winning streak, and they are showing some signs of playing better baseball in recent days, as Milwaukee hits Cincinnati with victories in 5 of their last 7 games. Included, is 2 wins in 3 games versus the Reds last week. The only one they lost? You got it, when tonight's starter Junior Guerra was on the hill, as Cincy dumped Milwaukee, 9-7 in that game on the 21st.


That happens to be the Reds only win in their last 7 games, as they enter play tonight with 5 straight losses, and they have also lost 9 of the last 12 games played between these division rivals.


Guerra has not won a decision since July 8th, but he is 2-1 in his 7 career appearances against Cincinnati, and will get his "redemption" shot at them tonight.


DeSciafani absorbed his first loss in over a month this last time out, and in his only start this season against Milwaukee he did not get a decision, but did allow 4 runs on 5 hits in his 6 plus innings back at the end of June.


Guerra must step up tonight, and the Brewers must take care of the cellar-dwellers in of the Central Division.

Buccholz lines continue to interest us as he's won 5 of 6 for his team and the Dbacks have lost 3 of 4 and come off 0 runs in their last game. The Diamondbacks are not sharp with hitting the ball which is why they have lost 3 out of their last 4 games and they simply cannot hit fast balls right now and it won't get easier with Bumgarner on the mound. Note, that the Dbacks are still 1 game ahead of Colorado but the books for the most part haven't believed in Buccholz as much which is interesting. Note, he is not pitching for Boston in the AL, but he is in the NL and has been revitalized and reinvigorated by his manager Torey Lovullo who of course came from the Redsox organization. They went after and got Buccholz because they specifically have belived in him and he has come through time and time again. Combine that with how well Bumgarner is pitching now and both these teams are going to be in for a tough day at a pitcher's ballpark in San Francisco as this game likley goes under the posted total today. The Under is 3-0-1 for Arizona following a loss and the Under is 5-0-1 for the Giants in their last 6 games when they face a team with a winning record.

5-Unit Play: Take 974 Braves -125 over Rays (7:35 p.m., Tuesday, August 28)

I'm backing the Braves with Teheran over Stanek on Tuesday. Tampa Bay has won eight in a row, but now the Rays go on the road where they are 29-37 compared to 41-24 at home and they're facing a hot pitcher in Julio Teheran, who hasn't allowed more than three runs in any of his last five starts. Teheran comes off a 2-1 win at Pittsburgh when he held the Pirates to a run on two hits in seven innings while walking only one batter. He also appears to have conquered his tendency to pitch much better on the road than at home as he is 4-2 with a 3.86 ERA at SunTrust Park. The right-hander has faced the Rays once this season and pitched six scoreless innings on four hits. Tampa Bay will start Ryne Stanek, who will pitch a couple innings and be followed by more relievers. The Rays have lost eight of their last 11 after a day off and Atlanta has won seven straight home games against teams with losing road records. I'm backing the Braves on Tuesday. Thanks & GL!
