# 6 HAPPIER YOU 12/1

# 4 TRAPPED N MY MIND 6/1

# 1A NAUNET 7/5

HAPPIER YOU could be the wager in here and could score at a price in here. There is a formidable possibility of an increase in speed as this filly changes blinkers (on) for the first time. She looks very good in this spot and I expect will be on the front end or close at the halfway point. TRAPPED N MY MIND - Respectable sire figures will play a key role in this filly travelling well. NAUNET - Matz is wonderful with first time starters. Will probably compete admirably in the pace contest which bodes well with this group. This trainer has done solidly lately with entries racing at this distance and surface.

#7 P. SUE (ML=5/1)
#4 BROWN EYED DIXIE (ML=3/1)

P. SUE - Was in a $5,000 Claiming race at Presque Isle Downs last time around the track. That event had a class rating of 76 and she is moving down in this race. A certain win candidate. BROWN EYED DIXIE - Filly shipped to this track and won; now goes for back-to-back wins. Have to make this filly a serious competitor; she comes off a good effort on August 14th.

Vulnerable Contenders: #3 FORTY KNOTS (ML=8/5), #5 TEAM ASTROLOGY (ML=9/2), #1 DREAMING OUTLOUD (ML=8/1),

FORTY KNOTS - This favorite may be out of shape without any recent workouts. TEAM ASTROLOGY - This entrant likes to finish in the money, but doesn't usually win. Forget the top spot. Unlikely that this animal will finish better than she did last time out of the box when placing ninth. Don't think this runner will make a winning move today. That last speed rating was mediocre when compared with today's Equibase class figure. DREAMING OUTLOUD - This mount didn't go to the front and didn't close in the lane last time she ran.

Presque Isle Downs - Race #6 - Post: 7:30pm - SO - 9.0 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $18,000 Class Rating: 95

Rating: Golden Dollar

#6 DIAMOND BLUE (ML=3/1)
#1 MR HARLAN (ML=8/1)
#5 SYMPHONY FORTY ONE (ML=7/2)
#4 GOLD WING (ML=12/1)

DIAMOND BLUE - Rice brings him right back. I propose you stay with this hot gelding. For my money, a bullet workout is the best indicator of fitness there is. Look at that last one - 36.2. Very impressive. This animal absolutely loves this track. All his wins have been here at Presque Isle Downs. MR HARLAN - The morning line odds on this horse are higher than those of the other entrant from the shedrow of conditioner Loescher. Often the longer-priced part of a 'split' entry wins. After the affair aboard this horse on August 28th, the rider is going to be acquainted with the horse much better. This horse is in nice physical condition, having run a good race on August 28th, finishing second. SYMPHONY FORTY ONE - Dominguez comes to ride again after getting to know the gelding in the last race. That 95 fig this gelding recorded in his last event tells me he's a big time player in today's event. GOLD WING - Morales and Guciardo perform well when they team up. It's hard to beat a +124 ROI for a jockey and handler.

Vulnerable Contenders: #7 WORLD OF PROSPECTS (ML=4/1), #2 SNUGGLEY BEAR (ML=9/2), #8 IM CHILLIN (ML=5/1),

WORLD OF PROSPECTS - This gelding hasn't been showing me anything positive in the last couple of races. SNUGGLEY BEAR - Speed ratings of 97/82/72 are pointed the wrong way. Hard to play any horse to turn things around if there is no wager value to taking the chance. IM CHILLIN - Difficult to bet on at 5/1 odds after the two most recent showings.

# 6 RING OF IRON 9/2

# 5 KING STORMY 3/1

# 1 BARONIAL BOY 7/2

RING OF IRON has a competitive shot to take this race. Strong average speed figures in dirt sprint races make this racer a contender. Must be considered for this event if only for the competitive speed rating garnered in the last affair. May best this field here, showing decent numbers of late. KING STORMY - Must be considered given the class of races run lately. He has a good opportunity for this event as trainer, Rivera, has very solid win clip with horses going this distance. BARONIAL BOY - There is a respectable chance that this entry's late pace will improve with second time Lasix. Is a key contender - given the 53 speed fig from his most recent race.

Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Cincinnati Reds Preview and Predictions 09-12-2018 in MLB

MLB Previews 11th September 2018 by Gracenote
If the Los Angeles Dodgers miss the playoffs, they may be able to look back on their inability to solve the last-place Cincinnati Reds as one big reason why. The Reds will try to sweep the seven-game season series when the teams finish a three-game set in Cincinnati on Wednesday afternoon.

After sweeping four in Los Angeles in May and taking the series opener Monday, the Reds rode a strong start by Luis Castillo and home runs by Brandon Dixon and Scott Schebler to a 3-1 triumph Tuesday. The Dodgers have lost five of eight overall, sit 1 1/2 games back in the National League West and three back in the race for the second wild card in the NL. Ross Stripling will be making his first start in just over a month when he gets the nod for Los Angeles in the series finale. Anthony DeSclafani goes for Cincinnati, which has won four of its last five overall.

TV: 12:35 p.m. ET, SportsNet LA (Los Angeles), FS Ohio (Cincinnati)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Dodgers RH Ross Stripling (8-3, 2.61 ERA) vs. Reds RH Anthony DeSclafani (7-4, 4.56)

Stripling returned from the disabled list (toe) earlier in the month and retired one batter in relief Friday at Colorado. He will be limited to roughly 45 pitches or three innings of work as he builds back up. The 28-year-old allowed two runs in 5 1/3 innings against Cincinnati on May 12.

DeSclafani worked at least six innings in all five of his August starts but has failed to get beyond four in his first two outings this month. He was rocked for four runs and eight hits in four frames in a no-decision against the San Diego Padres his last time out. The University of Florida product is 1-3 with a 3.12 ERA in four prior starts versus Los Angeles.

WALK-OFFS

1. Reds 2B Scooter Gennett is 6-for-8 with four RBIs in the series.

2. Dodgers OF Joc Pederson homered and singled Tuesday after going 0-for-13 over his previous six games.

3. Schebler is 10-for-28 with three home runs and seven RBIs during a seven-game hitting streak.

PREDICTION: Dodgers 5, Reds 4

Cleveland Indians vs. Tampa Bay Rays Preview and Predictions 09-12-2018 in MLB

MLB Previews 11th September 2018 by Gracenote
The Cleveland Indians visit the Tampa Bay Rays on Wednesday afternoon for the rubber match of a three-game set that features a pair of Cy Young candidates who total 34 victories this season. Cleveland's Carlos Carrasco goes for his 17th victory and the Rays counter with 18-game winner Blake Snell in a matchup of pitchers that have dominated at Tropicana Field in Tampa Bay.

Snell is tied for the major league lead in wins with Corey Kluber of the Indians while owning a 9-1 record and a 1.23 ERA at home this season and Carrasco is 4-0 with a 1.11 ERA in his career at Tampa Bay. American League Central-leading Cleveland evened the series with a 2-0 victory on Tuesday, ending the Rays' franchise-record 12-game winning streak at home and reducing its magic number to three. Edwin Encarnacion reached 30 homers for the seventh straight season Tuesday and Indians teammate Michael Brantley singled to improve to seven hits in his last four games. The Rays dropped 8 1/2 games behind Oakland for the second wild card in the AL, but outfielder Tommy Pham extended his hitting streak to 15 games - going 25-for-62 during the run.

TV: 1:10 p.m. ET, STO (Cleveland), FS Sun (Tampa Bay)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Indians RH Carlos Carrasco (16-8, 3.41 ERA) vs. Rays LH Blake Snell (18-5, 2.06)

Carrasco gave up five runs and nine hits over 6 1/3 innings to lose against Tampa Bay on Sept. 2 and rebounded with eight frames of two-run ball in a no-decision five days later versus Toronto. The 31-year-old Venezuelan went 4-2 with a 1.85 ERA in August after winning all four of his decisions in July. C.J. Cron is 2-for-3 with a homer against Carrasco, who is 4-4 with a 3.21 ERA in 10 career games (nine starts) versus the Rays.

Snell continues to make a strong case for a Cy Young while winning six straight starts, allowing six runs combined during that stretch. The 25-year-old Washington native gave up two runs and five hits with nine strikeouts last time out to beat Baltimore after holding Cleveland to two runs across 6 2/3 frames on Sept. 1. Josh Donaldson has a homer versus Snell, who is 1-1 with a 1.83 ERA in three career starts against Cleveland.

WALK-OFFS

1. Donaldson played 3B and went 0-for-4 in his debut with the Indians on Tuesday, while Jose Ramirez moved to 2B and Jason Kipnis to CF.

2. Tampa Bay CF Kevin Kiermaier, who owns a seven-game hitting streak, is day-to-day after missing the last two contests due to illness.

3. The Rays lead the season series 3-2 with one game left and can win it for the first time against Cleveland since 2013.

PREDICTION: Indians 3, Rays 2

Houston Astros vs. Detroit Tigers Preview and Predictions 09-12-2018 in MLB

The Houston Astros have felt very comfortable on the road and look to finish off their ninth sweep away from home this season when they visit the Detroit Tigers on Wednesday afternoon for the finale of a three-game set. The Astros, who lead the American League West by three games, defeated the Tigers 5-4 on Tuesday for their second straight one-run victory in the series and improved to a major league-best 51-22 on the road.

Alex Bregman extended his on-base streak to 38 games when he was hit by a pitch Tuesday while Houston teammates Jose Altuve and Tyler White each homered to extend their hitting streaks to six and five contests, respectively. Gerrit Cole looks to continue his dominant pitching when he takes the mound Wednesday and Detroit will counter with left-hander Daniel Norris, who makes his fifth start in a season shortened by surgery. The Tigers have dropped three in a row after a four-game winning streak and fell to 20-25 in one-run games. Detroit's top hitter this season, Nicholas Castellanos, went 0-for-4 in Tuesday's setback to end a five-game hitting streak, but he is the eighth player in franchise history with at least 40 doubles and 20 homers in a season.

TV: 1:10 p.m. ET, AT&T SportsNet Southwest (Houston), FS Detroit

PITCHING MATCHUP: Astros RH Gerrit Cole (13-5, 2.86 ERA) vs. Tigers LH Daniel Norris (0-3, 5.47)

Cole is unbeaten over in his last five starts while giving up a total of 11 earned runs with 44 strikeouts over 28 2/3 innings, but did not complete more than six frames and any of the outings. The 28-year-old UCLA product is second behind teammate Justin Verlander in the AL with a career-best 251 strikeouts across 182 2/3 innings. Castellanos is 7-for-13 with four RBIs versus Cole, who beat Detroit with 5 2/3 innings of one-run ball July 14.

Norris, a former second-round pick of Toronto, makes his third start since returning from a four-month stint on the disabled list with a groin injury. The 25-year-old Tennessee native gave up five runs on five hits (three homers) and two walks over 9 1/3 innings in his two starts after coming back Sept. 1. Brian McCann has homered against Norris, who allowed two runs (one earned) across 6 1/3 innings in a no-decision versus Houston last year.

WALK-OFFS

1. The Tigers recalled RHP Spencer Turnbull and LHP Matt Hall while designating RHP Johnny Barbato for assignment Tuesday.

2. Houston 1B Yuli Gurriel had a pair of hits Tuesday and is 9-for-26 during a seven-game hitting streak.

3. The Astros sent RHP Brad Peacock home Tuesday and he is out indefinitely with hand, foot and mouth disease.

PREDICTION: Astros 7, Tigers 2

Pittsburgh Pirates vs. St. Louis Cardinals Preview and Predictions 09-12-2018 in MLB

MLB Previews 12th September 2018 by Gracenote
The St. Louis Cardinals have racked up 19 runs in the first two contests of the series and look to complete a three-game sweep when they host the Pittsburgh Pirates on Wednesday afternoon. Tyler O'Neill hit a three-run homer and Marcell Ozuna collected three RBIs as the Cardinals posted an 11-5 victory on Tuesday.

St. Louis has won three straight and five of seven to boost its lead for the National League's second wild card to three games over the Los Angeles Dodgers, who arrive in town for a four-game series that begins on Thursday. The Cardinals have been explosive on offense in recent weeks as Tuesday's outing marked the fourth time in their last 15 contests that they have scored 11 or more runs. The Pirates have lost four consecutive road games, with the setbacks in St. Louis being the first two of a six-game trip that ends with three in Milwaukee. Pittsburgh's Josh Bell is 5-for-10 in the series and 7-for-15 with two homers, two doubles, four RBIs and five runs scored over his last four games.

TV: 1:15 p.m. ET, MLB Network, AT&T SportsNet-Pittsburgh, FS Midwest (St. Louis)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Pirates RH Jameson Taillon (12-9, 3.40 ERA) vs. Cardinals RH Daniel Poncedeleon (0-1, 2.67)

Taillon has won three consecutive starts and owns a 1.88 ERA over his last four turns. The 26-year-old has been strong since the All-Star break, going 6-2 with a 2.48 ERA and 1.21 WHIP in nine outings. Taillon is 1-0 with a 1.88 ERA in two starts against the Cardinals this season and 2-1 with a 3.57 mark in seven career turns.

Poncedeleon is making his fourth start and 10th appearance of the campaign. The 26-year-old has gone 0-1 with a 2.51 ERA in his previous three starts, including the stellar debut in which he worked seven no-hit frames against Cincinnati on July 23. Poncedeleon's most recent start also was against the Reds on Sept. 1 and he didn't fare that well as he yielded three runs and five hits over 3 1/3 innings en route to his first career setback.

WALK-OFFS

1. Ozuna has gone 13-for-30 with five homers and 10 RBIs during his seven-game hitting streak.

2. Pittsburgh C Francisco Cervelli is mired in a 23-game home-run drought.

3. St. Louis 3B Jedd Gyorko (groin) could be available as a pinch-hitter on Wednesday and might be able to start as soon as Thursday.

PREDICTION: Pirates 4, Cardinals 2

Atlanta Braves vs. San Francisco Giants Preview and Predictions 09-12-2018 in MLB

MLB Previews 12th September 2018 by Gracenote
The Atlanta Braves have won a series in San Francisco for the first time since 2011 and look to complete a three-game sweep of the struggling Giants on Wednesday afternoon. Charlie Culberson belted a two-run homer on Tuesday as the Braves posted a 4-1 victory to improve to 5-1 on their seven-game road trip.

Atlanta's lead in the National League East grew by 1 1/2 games on Tuesday as Philadelphia dropped both ends of its doubleheader against Washington to fall 6 1/2 behind. Nick Markakis reached base three times on two hits and a walk Tuesday and is batting .341 in 41 at-bats this month. The Giants have lost 10 straight contests for just the third time (1985 and 1996) since moving to San Francisco in 1958, and the franchise last lost 11 straight in 1951 while based in New York. The Giants recorded just two runs and nine hits in the first two games of the series and have scored three runs or fewer nine times during their skid.

TV: 3:45 p.m. ET, Facebook-Watch

PITCHING MATCHUP: Braves RH Anibal Sanchez (6-5, 3.09 ERA) vs. Giants LH Derek Holland (7-8, 3.54)

Sanchez struck out eight in five innings against Arizona in his last turn, when he gave up three runs and four hits in a no-decision. The 34-year-old has performed well on the road, going 5-2 with a 3.07 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and .204 opponents' batting average in 11 starts. Sanchez is 4-1 with a 2.13 ERA in six career starts against San Francisco.

Holland settled for a no-decision against Milwaukee last time out after giving up two runs on two hits and five walks over six innings. The 31-year-old has posted a 1.61 ERA over his last five outings but only has a 1-0 record to show for his efforts. Holland's lone appearance against the Braves came on Sept. 12, 2014, when he gave up one run and eight hits in seven innings of a no-decision while with Texas.

WALK-OFFS

1. Braves 1B Freddie Freeman was 0-for-4 with a walk on Tuesday after registering three consecutive two-hit performances.

2. San Francisco INF Ryder Jones (knee) will undergo surgery on Wednesday while 1B Brandon Belt (knee) may require a procedure after the season.

3. Atlanta 3B Johan Camargo (groin) departed Tuesday's contest and will be re-evaluated on Wednesday.

Miami Marlins vs. New York Mets Preview and Predictions 09-12-2018 in MLB

MLB Previews 11th September 2018 by Gracenote
The Miami Marlins aim to gain the edge in both the season and current series against the host New York Mets on Wednesday when the National League East rivals play a single-admission doubleheader at Citi Field. The Marlins (57-86) improved to 6-7 against the Mets (65-78) this season by getting the better of Jacob deGrom during Tuesday's 5-3 triumph in the opener of a four-game set.

Derek Dietrich collected two hits and a run scored in the series opener to improve to 13-for-43 with six extra-base hits (five doubles, homer) versus New York this season while crossing the plate 10 times. The 29-year-old is just 3-for-15 with nine strikeouts in his career against Wednesday's opening starter Zack Wheeler while he'll face left-hander Jason Vargas for the first time in the nightcap. While cellar-dwelling Miami has split eight of its contests in September, the Mets fell for just the third time in nine outings overall this month - although the team is batting just .215 while posting a 30-42 mark at home this season. Michael Conforto homered in a career-best third straight game and fifth time in eight contests, giving him 11 RBIs, 10 hits and six runs scored in that stretch heading into matchups against right-handers Trevor Richards and Jeff Brigham.

TV: 4:10 p.m. ET, FS Florida (Miami), SNY (New York)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Marlins RH Trevor Richards (3-8, 4.73 ERA) vs. Mets RH Zack Wheeler (10-7, 3.39)

Richards fell to 0-3 in his last six outings on Sept. 4 after yielding six runs on four hits over 1 1/3 innings of a 9-4 setback versus Philadelphia. The 25-year-old did himself no favors by issuing four free passes, giving him multiple walks in seven straight encounters. Richards will be making his 22nd start of the season and first versus the Mets.

Wheeler improved to 8-1 with a 1.86 ERA in his last 10 starts last Wednesday after permitting three runs on as many hits over seven innings of a 7-4 win at the Los Angeles Dodgers. The 28-year-old surrendered two homers in that contest, matching his sum total of his previous nine outings. Wheeler posted a pair of sterling seven-inning performances to win two of his three encounters with Miami this season, upping his career mark to 4-2 with a 2.13 ERA against the Marlins.

WALK-OFFS

1. New York 3B Todd Frazier, who was ejected in the seventh inning for arguing balls and strikes in the series opener, is mired in a 1-for-15 stretch in his last five outings.

2. Miami CF Lewis Brinson had a two-run double in the series opener, improving to 12-for-30 with six runs driven in this month.

3. Mets RHP Robert Gsellman has yielded four runs on seven hits in his last three relief outings.

San Diego Padres vs. Seattle Mariners Preview and Predictions 09-12-2018 in MLB

MLB Previews 12th September 2018 by Gracenote
The Seattle Mariners are sinking out of the American League wild-card race, and one contributing factor is that they can't defeat the San Diego Padres. San Diego looks to complete a four-game season sweep of the host Mariners on Wednesday in the finale of their two-game series after recording a 2-1 victory in the opener.

Wil Myers delivered the tiebreaking RBI double in the ninth inning for the Padres, who have limited Seattle to five runs while winning three meetings over the last 15 days. San Diego rookie second baseman Luis Urias pulled his left hamstring during Tuesday's game and manager Andy Green called him "doubtful" to return this season in his postgame press conference. The latest setback left the Mariners 8 1/2 games behind Oakland for the second AL wild card with just 18 contests remaining. Seattle slugger Nelson Cruz is just 1-for-15 over his last four games and is one RBI shy of 1,000 for his career.

TV: 6:40 p.m. ET, FS San Diego, ROOT Northwest (Seattle)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Padres LH Joey Lucchesi (7-8, 3.59 ERA) vs. Mariners LH Wade LeBlanc (8-3, 3.56)

Lucchesi lost to Arizona in his last turn as he gave up two runs and three hits over five innings. The 25-year-old rookie defeated the Mariners in his previous start as he gave up one run and six hits while matching his season high of nine strikeouts over 6 2/3 frames. Lucchesi is 2-3 with a 2.98 ERA and 1.04 WHIP in eight road starts.

LeBlanc hasn't allowed a run over his last 18 innings to match ace James Paxton for Seattle's longest scoreless stretch among starters this season. The 34-year-old LeBlanc allowed just six hits over six frames against Baltimore in his last turn but wasn't involved in the decision. LeBlanc, who went 17-22 for the Padres from 2008-11, is 0-1 with a 2.67 ERA in six career appearances (one start) against his former club.

WALK-OFFS

1. Mariners SS Jean Segura (fever) was a late scratch on Tuesday but could return for the finale.

2. San Diego recalled SS Javy Guerra, RHPs Kazuhisa Makita and Colten Brewer and LHP Brad Wieck from Triple-A El Paso.

3. Seattle activated LHP Marco Gonzales (neck) - who gave up one run in five innings on Tuesday - from the DL and recalled RHPs Matt Festa and Nick Rumbelow from Double-A Arkansas.

Athletics vs. Orioles Preview and Predictions

by Gracenote on 09/11/2018

Stephen Piscotty and the Oakland Athletics look to continue their impressive roll when they continue a three-game series at the Baltimore Orioles on Wednesday. Piscotty had three hits and an RBI in a 3-2 win to begin the set, giving him a 12-game hitting streak and at least one RBI in six straight contests.

Piscotty's latest outburst, which gave him a .367 average over a 21-game span, helped the Athletics remain within three games of first-place Houston in the American League West. Oakland is 7-0 in starts made by Mike Fiers, who pitched six strong innings in Tuesday's win to help spare the relief corps ahead of another bullpen day, led by likely opener Liam Hendriks. The Orioles will counter with veteran Andrew Cashner as they inch toward a franchise record in losses (111 in 1939). Jonathan Villar drove in both runs for Baltimore on Tuesday and he has hit safely in all nine of his games this month.

TV: 7:05 p.m. ET, MLB Network, NBCS California (Oakland), MASN (Baltimore)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Athletics RH Liam Hendriks (0-1, 6.32 ERA) vs. Orioles RH Andrew Cashner (4-14, 4.89)

Hendriks will be making his fourth start this month but his first on the road. He has a 6.10 ERA in 16 career matchups (one start) with Baltimore and a 7.11 ERA at Camden Yards. Right-hander Frankie Montas, who was recalled from Triple-A Nashville on Tuesday, is a candidate to eat up some innings in relief of Hendriks.

Cashner failed to get through five innings for the first time in over a month when he gave up three runs in 4 2/3 frames at Seattle last Wednesday. The outing left the 32-year-old at 0-4 with a 5.87 ERA over a span of four starts. Cashner also allowed three runs in 4 2/3 at Oakland on May 4, which left him 1-0 with a 4.30 ERA in five career matchups with the A's.

WALK-OFFS

1. A's LHP Sean Manaea will have arthroscopic surgery on his left shoulder next week and is expected to miss all of 2019.

2. Villar has seven home runs in 36 games with Baltimore after hitting six in 87 games with Milwaukee to start the year.

3. Oakland needs one home run to reach 200 for the sixth time in franchise history.

Nationals vs. Phillies Preview and Predictions

by Gracenote on 09/12/2018

The free-falling Philadelphia Phillies have seen their postseason aspirations fade in rapid time, as they have lost eight consecutive series to barely remain within earshot for either the National League East title or a wild-card berth. The Phillies (74-70), who will look to snap a four-game skid in the finale of their series on Wednesday at home, squandered a three-run lead in the ninth inning of the nightcap in Tuesday's doubleheader sweep by the Nationals (73-72).

Juan Soto flustered Philadelphia in the finale, capping a two-homer performance with a solo shot in the 10th inning of a 7-6 victory in the nightcap. The 19-year-old rookie is 9-for-22 with six RBIs during his five-game hitting streak heading into a tilt versus Cy Young candidate Aaron Nola, against whom he is 1-for-9 with three strikeouts this season. Washington has won four in a row to inch closer to Philadelphia, which has dropped eight of 10 overall to reside 6 1/2 games behind first-place Atlanta in the NL East. Rhys Hoskins had a two-run double to highlight a five-run fifth inning to improve to 8-for-19 with three homers, five RBIs and five runs scored in his last five outings, although he is just 1-for-7 with five strikeouts versus Wednesday starter Stephen Strasburg.

TV: 7:05 p.m. ET, MASN (Washington), NBCS Philadelphia

PITCHING MATCHUP: Nationals RH Stephen Strasburg (7-7, 4.04 ERA) vs. Phillies RH Aaron Nola (16-4, 2.29)

Strasburg, who traditionally has dominated Philadelphia in his career, rebounded from a disastrous outing against the Phillies on Aug. 22 by picking up the win five days later after allowing two runs in six innings. The 30-year-old has kept the ball in the park in each of his last three trips to the mound after being taken deep twice in the first of the two recent encounters with Philadelphia. Strasburg has recorded back-to-back no-decisions in his last two starts despite yielding two earned runs in both outings.

Nola rebounded from his first loss since July 14 with an eight-strikeout performance over seven innings in a 4-3 win at the New York Mets on Friday. The 25-year-old has flustered Washington this season, highlighting his 3-0 mark with a 1.26 ERA in four starts after scattering five hits and fanning nine in eight frames of a 2-0 victory on Aug. 23. Bryce Harper and Anthony Rendon are both 9-for-30 against Nola, although the hurler has kept Adam Eaton (1-for-14, nine strikeouts) at bay.

WALK-OFFS

1. Philadelphia CF Odubel Herrera is 4-for-31 with 10 strikeouts in his last 10 games.

2. Washington C Matt Wieters is 3-for-7 with two RBIs and two runs scored in his last two contests after going 1-for-15 with eight strikeouts in his previous six outings.

3. Phillies 2B Cesar Hernandez is 8-for-17 with four RBIs during his four-game hitting streak.

Marlins vs. Mets Preview and Predictions

by Gracenote on 09/11/2018

TV: 7:40 p.m. ET, FS Florida (Miami), SNY (New York)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Marlins RH Jeff Brigham (0-1, 9.00 ERA) vs. Mets LH Jason Vargas (5-9, 6.75)

Brigham is patiently biding his time to make his second career start after Mother Nature forced rainouts on back-to-back starts. The 26-year-old allowed three runs, four hits and four walks while striking out two in three innings of a 6-1 loss to Toronto on Sept. 2. Brigham posted a 10-3 mark with a 2.36 ERA in 17 starts over three minor-league levels this season, including 5-2 with a 3.44 in nine turns with Triple-A New Orleans.

Vargas answered a three-start winning streak by getting shredded for five runs on six hits over 3 1/3 innings of an 11-4 setback at the Los Angeles Dodgers on Sept. 4. The 35-year-old allowed two homers in that contest after being taken deep twice in his previous six trips to the mound. Vargas fared significantly better in his previous outing against Miami, scattering two hits and striking out seven across five innings in a 2-0 win on May 21.

WALK-OFFS

Toronto Blue Jays vs. Boston Red Sox Preview and Predictions 09-12-2018 in MLB

MLB Previews 11th September 2018 by Gracenote
by Gracenote on 09/11/2018

The Boston Red Sox have clinched a playoff spot and now will try to reach the 100-win mark for the fourth time in franchise history when they host the Toronto Blue Jays on Wednesday in the second contest of a three-game series. With ace Chris Sale throwing a scoreless inning in his return from shoulder issues and Brock Holt slugging a three-run homer, the Red Sox picked up a 7-2 win in the series opener to become the first team in the majors to clinch a spot in the postseason.

The Red Sox are 13-4 against the Blue Jays, including 7-1 at home, and own a commanding nine-game lead over the New York Yankees in the American League East. David Price gets the start Wednesday for Boston as he looks to improve upon some stellar career numbers against the Blue Jays (20-3, 2.52 ERA). He will face a lineup that managed just five hits and one walk against Sale and seven relievers as Toronto fell for the ninth time in its last 11 road games. Right-hander Aaron Sanchez starts for the Blue Jays as he tries to finish another injury-plagued campaign on a good note.

TV: 7:10 p.m. ET, Sportsnet, TVA Sports (Toronto), NESN (Boston)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Blue Jays RH Aaron Sanchez (4-5, 5.17 ERA) vs. Red Sox LH David Price (14-6, 3.57)

Sanchez recorded his first quality start in nearly three months when he gave up three runs in six innings to defeat Tampa Bay last Wednesday. He struck out eight in the outing to tie a season high while picking up his first win since June 3. The one-time All-Star was reached for seven runs in five innings in his last Fenway Park start and is 3-2 with a 4.35 ERA in his career at Boston.

Price bounced back from a rare bad start to limit the Houston Astros to two runs while fanning 10 in 6 1/3 innings on Friday. The bullpen lost Price's lead in that game and the Red Sox lost a start made by the left-hander for the first time since July 1. Devon Travis is 7-for-16 in his career against Price, who owns a 3.08 ERA at Fenway this year.

WALK-OFFS

1. Red Sox RF Mookie Betts has scored six runs in his last four games.

2. Blue Jays IF Lourdes Gurriel Jr. has three doubles, four singles and four walks over his last six games.

3. Boston has scored at least five runs in each of its 13 games against Toronto.

Brewers vs. Cubs Preview and Predictions

by Gracenote on 09/12/2018

The Chicago Cubs have done enough to ensure they'll still have the lead in the National League Central when the Milwaukee Brewers leaves town, but both teams recognize the importance of their final head-to-head meeting of the season on Wednesday. The finale of the three-game series will represent a two-game swing in the tight division race, which the Cubs lead by two games.

The Cubs have blanked the Brewers six times, including Tuesday's 3-0 triumph, and have an 11-7 lead in the season series. That head-to-head advantage has been the difference in the NL Central race. The victory snapped a three-game skid for the Cubs and evened the series after Milwaukee posted a 3-2 win in the opener to trim its deficit to one game. The Brewers had won four straight and seven of eight before being limited to three singles on Tuesday.

TV: 8:05 p.m. ET, ESPN, FS Wisconsin (Milwaukee), ABC 7 (Chicago)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Brewers RH Chase Anderson (9-7, 3.95 ERA) vs. Cubs RH Kyle Hendricks (11-10, 3.71)

Anderson is riding a nine-start unbeaten streak but has posted only three quality starts over that stretch. The 30-year-old has allowed three runs over 10 innings in his last two outings - both of which were no-decisions. Anderson is 4-4 with a 2.91 ERA in 10 career starts against the Cubs, including a 1-2 mark this season despite allowing only three runs over 20 frames in three meetings.

The Cubs have won seven of Hendricks' last eight starts - a stretch during which he has posted a 2.90 ERA. The 28-year-old was hurt by his defense last time out as he allowed four runs - one earned - over five innings in a no-decision at Washington, snapping a streak of three consecutive quality starts. Hendricks is 8-4 with a 2.98 ERA in 18 career turns against the Brewers, including a pair of wins this season.

WALK-OFFS

1. Brewers OF Christian Yelich has reached base in a career high-tying 27 consecutive games, the longest active streak in the NL.

2. Cubs 2B-OF Ben Zobrist is 9-for-19 with three homers versus Anderson.

3. Chicago LF Kyle Schwarber missed his second consecutive game Tuesday with a tight back and is day-to-day.

Yankees vs. Twins Preview and Predictions

by Gracenote on 09/12/2018

The New York Yankees appeared to be a lock for the first wild card in the American League a short time ago, but their lead has dwindled significantly as they head into the rubber match of their three-game series against the host Minnesota Twins on Wednesday. New York's cushion over Oakland for home field in the wild-card game was reduced to two games with Tuesday's 10-5 loss.

The Yankees fell to 4-4 on their nine-game road trip and 7-8 overall since sweeping a four-game series at Baltimore from Aug. 24-26 while the Athletics have won five in a row and seven of eight - including two of three versus New York last week - to tighten the race. Didi Gregorius went 2-for-3 in the loss with a triple and a grand slam, but Giancarlo Stanton continued to struggle as he went hitless in two at-bats to drop to 4-for-38 with no homers and two RBIs over his last 10 games. Jorge Polanco collected three hits and an RBI while Joe Mauer belted his fifth career grand slam as the Twins posted their third win in five contests following a five-game losing streak. Polanco has gone 5-for-9 over the first two games of the series and has hit safely in eight of his last nine contests.

TV: 8:10 p.m. ET, YES (New York), FS North (Minnesota)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Yankees RH Luis Severino (17-7, 3.52 ERA) vs. Twins RH Jake Odorizzi (5-10, 4.57)

Severino is coming off his shortest start of the season, a loss at Oakland on Wednesday in which he was tagged for six runs - five earned - and six hits over 2 2/3 innings. The 24-year-old Dominican has suffered five of his seven setbacks on the road, where his ERA (4.16) is more than a full run higher than his mark at home (2.86). Severino made his lone career start against Minnesota on Sept. 20, 2016, when he gave up three runs and five hits over three innings in a no-decision.

Odorizzi lost his third consecutive start on Wednesday as he surrendered five runs on four hits - two homers - and four walks in 4 2/3 innings at Houston. The 28-year-old native of Illinois has won just one of his last 10 outings and worked more than six frames once in 29 turns this season. Odorizzi fell to 5-8 with a 4.61 ERA in 15 career appearances (14 starts) versus the Yankees on April 23, when he yielded five runs on five hits and three walks in 4 2/3 innings at New York.

WALK-OFFS

1. Gregorius has hit two of his three career grand slams this season - both versus the Twins.

2. Mauer's grand slam on Tuesday was his 596th career extra-base hit, tying him with Tony Oliva for fourth place on the Twins' all-time list.

3. New York 3B Miguel Andujar is tied with Bob Meusel (1920) for the third-most doubles in franchise history by a rookie with 40 and needs five to break the record set in 1936 by Joe DiMaggio.

White Sox vs. Royals Preview and Predictions

by Gracenote on 09/12/2018

The Kansas City Royals are on their way to a last-place finish in the American League Central and perhaps a historically bad campaign, but they're showing reasons for optimism down the stretch. The Royals will try to continue their September surge when they host the Chicago White Sox for the finale of their three-game series on Wednesday.

Kansas City clinched its fourth series win in its last six tries with a 6-3 win over the White Sox on Tuesday, improving to 11-5 over that stretch. The Royals have captured seven straight at home, where they are 16-10 since the All-Star break. The White Sox are trending in the opposite direction - they've been outscored 46-16 during their seven-game losing streak, which is one shy of their longest skid of the season. Chicago has scored four runs or fewer in eight consecutive games, batting .205 as a team over that span.

TV: 8:15 p.m. ET, NBCS Chicago, FS Kansas City

PITCHING MATCHUP: White Sox LH Carlos Rodon (6-5, 3.11 ERA) vs. Royals LH Eric Skoglund (1-5, 6.45)

After a dominant string of nine consecutive quality starts, Rodon has struggled in his last two outings, allowing nine runs - eight earned - over 11 innings in consecutive losses. The 25-year-old failed to get through five frames for the first time all season in his last start against the Los Angeles Angels. Rodon is 2-2 with a 3.90 ERA in five starts against the Royals, all of which took place in 2016.

Skoglund returned from the disabled list to throw two scoreless innings of relief Friday at Minnesota, working around two hits and a walk. The 25-year-old will make his first major-league start since May 25 at Texas and is looking for his first win since April 28 against the White Sox. Skoglund is 1-0 with a 2.70 ERA in two meetings with Chicago.

WALK-OFFS

1. The Royals have recorded 47 stolen bases since the All-Star break, which ties them with Cleveland for most in the majors.

2. The White Sox need to win seven of their remaining 17 games to avoid the fourth 100-loss season in franchise history and first since 1970.

3. Kansas City starters have allowed fewer than three earned runs in 14 of their last 18 contests.

MLB Previews 12th September 2018 by Gracenote
by Gracenote on 09/12/2018

Arizona Diamondbacks second baseman Ketel Marte has seen his playing time cut in the past week, but there were no signs of rust in Tuesday's 6-3 win over the host Colorado Rockies. Marte drove in four runs in the victory and could be in the lineup again Wednesday when the teams continue their crucial four-game series at Coors Field.

Colorado leads the National League West by 1 1/2 games over the Los Angeles Dodgers and 2 1/2 games over the Diamondbacks, who ended a three-game losing streak with Tuesday's victory. Arizona manager Torey Lovullo started veteran Daniel Descalso at second base in four straight games before Tuesday's contest, when Marte got the start and delivered a two-run triple in the sixth and a two-run single in the ninth. David Peralta belted his 27th homer and Yoshihisa Hirano recorded his first career save in place of Brad Boxberger, who was removed from the closer's role on Monday. Nolan Arenado paced the Rockies with two doubles while Trevor Story doubled in a run to become the second shortstop in major league history with at least 30 home runs, 100 RBI and 25 stolen bases in a single season.

TV: 8:40 p.m. ET, FS Arizona, AT&T SportsNet Rocky Mountain (Colorado)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Diamondbacks LH Patrick Corbin (11-5, 3.01 ERA) vs. Rockies RH Jon Gray (11-7, 4.69)

Corbin won for the first time in four starts last Friday, allowing one run on four hits with nine strikeouts over six innings versus Atlanta. The 29-year-old native of New York has recorded at least seven strikeouts in nine straight starts and owns a 3-1 record and 1.88 ERA in his last six outings. DJ LeMahieu is 16-for-43 with four homers against Corbin, who is 8-3 with a 4.66 ERA in 19 career games (18 starts) against Colorado - including 1-0 with a 3.60 mark in two outings this season.

Gray issued a season-high five walks and allowed two runs over four innings in a no-decision last Friday against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Peralta has eight hits in 16 at-bats against Gray, who owns a 2-3 record and 4.98 ERA in six career starts versus Arizona - including 0-2 with a 6.23 ERA in three career outings at Coors Field.

WALK-OFFS

2. Colorado OF David Dahl is 5-for-12 with a home run and five RBIs over his last three games.

3. Arizona 1B Paul Goldschmidt has reached base in a club-record 47 straight road games.

Rangers vs. Angels Preview and Predictions

by Gracenote on 09/12/2018

After flirting with history while evening the series, the Los Angeles Angels look to remain hot when they host the Texas Rangers on Wednesday for the rubber match of their three-game set. Six pitchers combined to work seven hitless innings Tuesday before the seventh, Blake Parker, yielded a one-out single in the eighth, but the Angels went on to post a 1-0 victory.

Parker allowed both of Texas' hits as eight Los Angeles hurlers teamed up to record the shutout in the team's fifth win in six games. The Angels also registered only two hits - including one by 30-year-old rookie Jose Fernandez, who belted his first career homer in the second inning to provide the team's fourth run in three contests. Isiah Kiner-Falefa broke up the no-hitter on Tuesday and Rougned Odor also recorded a single, giving him a hit in eight of his last nine games. The Rangers have lost six of their last eight contests, with half of the setbacks coming against Los Angeles.

TV: 10:07 p.m. ET, FS Southwest (Texas), FS West (Los Angeles)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Rangers RH Yovani Gallardo (8-4, 6.22 ERA) vs. Angels RH Felix Pena (2-4, 4.04)

Gallardo, who won seven of his first eight decisions after joining the rotation, suffered his third loss in four decisions on Friday after surrendering five runs on six hits and five walks in 4 1/3 innings at Oakland. The 32-year-old from Mexico has worked more than five frames just once in his last five outings and more than six in one of his 14 turns this year. Gallardo has yet to defeat the Angels in his career, going 0-1 with a 5.14 ERA in four starts and one relief appearance.

In contrast to Gallardo, Pena has pitched at least six innings in each of his last five starts and seven in both of his last two outings, including a road victory over the Chicago White Sox on Friday in which he allowed two runs and seven hits. The triumph was the first since June 29 at Baltimore for the 28-year-old Dominican, who did not issue a walk in either of his last two turns. Pena, who is 0-3 with a 6.17 ERA in nine games (seven starts) at home this season but owns a 2.21 road ERA, has yet to face Texas in his career.

WALK-OFFS

1. The Angels recalled RHP Parker Bridwell, who made his lone appearance this season in a start against Oakland on April 6, from Triple-A Salt Lake.

2. Odor registered his 11th stolen base on Tuesday and is four away from matching the career high he set last season.

3. Los Angeles RHP Nick Tropeano has been shut down for the season due to inflammation in his right shoulder, which has not improved during his rehab.

Wednesday's Diamond Notes
Kevin Rogers

Hottest team: Athletics (8-2 last 10)

It’s amazing to think that with less than three weeks left in the regular season that Oakland owns more wins (88) than seven playoff teams from last season (Indians, Twins, Cubs, Dodgers, Rockies, Diamondbacks, and Nationals). The A’s continued their dominance of the lowly Orioles by beating Baltimore for the fourth time in four tries in Tuesday’s 3-2 victory at Camden Yards. Oakland picked up its fifth consecutive victory overall, while winning for the 12th time in the past 17 contests.

The A’s send out right-hander Liam Hendriks to the mound tonight for his fourth start of the season. Hendriks hasn’t lasted past the second inning in any of his first three starts as Oakland has decided to use a bullpen by committee approach with the Australian hurler. Since Baltimore swept Toronto at home in late August, the Orioles have lost nine of their past 10 games.

Coldest team: Giants (0-10 last 10)

While Oakland is closing in a playoff berth, its friends on the other side of the Bay are counting the days until the season end. The Giants are riding a 10-game skid following Tuesday’s 4-1 defeat to the Braves as the road team is now 5-0 in five matchups this season. San Francisco’s offense has produced exactly one run in each of its last four games at AT&T Park, all losses, while scoring three runs or less nine times during this cold stretch.

The Giants try to avoid their third consecutive sweep this afternoon as southpaw Derek Holland takes the mound. Holland has allowed five earned runs in his last five starts, although the Giants have dropped his last two outings to the Mets and Brewers. The Braves have extended their lead over the Phillies in the NL East to 6 ½ games as Atlanta has lost four of its past five games to end a road trip of at least six games.

Hottest pitcher: Blake Snell, Rays (18-5, 2.06 ERA)

The AL Cy Young race will come down to the finish as Snell has put himself in a great position. The Tampa Bay southpaw has won six consecutive starts, including a 5-3 win over Cleveland at Progressive Field on September 1. Snell has been especially dominant at home by winning nine of 10 decisions at Tropicana Field, while owning a 1.23 ERA. The Rays look to bounce back after seeing their 12-game home winning streak snapped by the Indians last night in a 2-0 defeat.

Coldest pitcher: Jake Odorizzi, Twins (5-10, 4.57 ERA)

Odorizzi has struggled against two division leaders in his past two starts by allowing eight earned runs in 10 innings of losses to the Indians and Astros on the road. Odorizzi returns home for tonight’s start, but faces another likely playoff squad in the Yankees. Since the start of July, the Twins are 5-1 in Odorizzi’s last six outings at Target Field. However, Odorizzi struggled in two starts against the Yankees last season as a member of the Rays by losing a pair of starts at home.

Biggest OVER run: Mets (5-0-1 last six)

Although it was only a 5-3 game last night, the Mets cashed the OVER on a 6 ½ total in a defeat to Miami as heavy favorites with ace Jacob deGrom on the mound. New York’s pitching staff has allowed at least four runs in four consecutive games, while the Mets have seen totals of seven or less in each of the past five contests. The Mets and Marlins hook up for a double-header at Citi Field as Zack Wheeler and Jason Vargas are the two starters for New York. Wheeler has tossed at least seven innings in six of his last seven outings, while Vargas has cashed the UNDER in five straight home starts.

Biggest UNDER run: Mariners (5-0 last five)

Seattle’s meltdown towards a postseason berth was solidified in Tuesday’s 2-1 loss to San Diego. Not only did the Mariners lose to the last-place Padres for the third time in three tries, but Seattle’s offense produced three runs or fewer for the seventh time in eight games. The M’s have cashed the UNDER in six of seven games on their current homestand, while the lone OVER against Baltimore hit on a 7 ½ total in a 5-3 loss. Seattle will try to salvage its series with San Diego this afternoon as Wade LeBlanc heads to the hill for the M’s. The UNDER trend may turn around as the OVER has cashed in each of LeBlanc’s last three starts at Safeco Field, but the M’s have lost each of those three contests.

Matchup to watch: Diamondbacks vs. Rockies

The three-horse race in the NL West continues to be a mystery on who will come out on top. The Dodgers have lost the last two games to the Reds on the road, while Colorado and Arizona have split the first two games of their series at Coors Field. Following Colorado’s blowout on Monday, the D-backs bounced back on Tuesday in a 6-3 win behind Zack Greinke as the Rockies lead the Dodgers by 1 ½ games and own a 2 ½-game edge over Arizona.

Patrick Corbin takes the mound for Arizona as the southpaw is winless in his last two road starts. The left-hander beat the Braves his last time out to pick up his 11th victory on the season, while Arizona owns a 2-0 record in Corbin’s two outings against Colorado. The D-backs improved to 3-6 in the last nine road games with Tuesday’s victory, but Arizona needs every win down the stretch as its next four series come against the Astros, Cubs, Rockies, and Dodgers.

Jon Gray counters for Colorado, as the Rockies have won 10 of the past 12 starts made by the right-hander. Gray is facing the D-backs for the first time since the opening series of the season in Phoenix as he allowed three earned runs in four innings of an 8-2 loss. The Rockies have captured five of Gray’s last six starts at Coors Field, but Colorado lost to Los Angeles in a 4-2 setback in his past home outing last Friday.

Betcha didn’t know: The Phillies put together a terrific turnaround this season, but Philadelphia is falling apart at the wrong time. After getting swept in a double-header by the Nationals on Tuesday, Philadelphia fell to 6-16 in the last 22 games. Ace Aaron Nola heads to the hill tonight opposite Washington’s Stephen Strasburg as the Phillies have lost each of Nola’s last two home starts since beginning the season at 12-0 in the right-hander’s outings at Citizens Bank Park.

Biggest public favorite: Red Sox (-245) vs. Blue Jays

Biggest public underdog: Rangers (+155) at Angels

Biggest line move: White Sox (-120 to -134) at Royals

Rock Steady

The Arizona Diamondbacks and Colorado Rockies will continue their series on Wednesday at Coors Field, jockeying for position in the National League West while also trying to keep pace in the Wild-Card race, too. LHP Patrick Corbin will work for Arizona while RHP Jon Gray starts for Colorado. The under is an impressive 9-1 in the past 10 road outings for the D-Backs, while going 7-1-1 in their past nine road outings against a right-handed starter. The Snakes are also 13-3-1 in the past 17 road outings against teams with a winning record and 13-3 in the past 16 against National League West foes.

The under has also cashed an impressive 7-1-1 in Corbin's past nine road outings, while going 5-2 in his past seven against divisional foes and 5-2 in the past seven against teams with a winning record. It doesn't seem normal, but the under is the trend for Colorado lately. The under is 12-3 in Colorado's past 15 at home vs. LHP while going 20-7-1 in their past 28 games at Coors Field overall. In addition, the under is a perfect 9-0 in the past nine home starts by Gray against a team with a winning overall record, while going under in four straight starts by Gray vs. NL West clubs. Overall, the under is 25-10 in the past 35 for the Rockies inside the division. The under is also 4-1 in Corbin's past five road outings against the Rockies.

In addition, as an extra bonus, we'll look at the sides, too. The Diamondbacks have won seven of Corbin's past nine outings, and they're an impressive 7-3 across the past 10 road outings. However, the D-Backs are also 5-11 over his past 16 outings on the road against teams iwth a winning record. They're also a dismal 2-8 in the past 10 starts while working on four days of rest. Arizona heads into the game just 2-5 in the past seven against division foes, and they're 2-6 in the past eight vs. RHP. They're also just 2-7 in the past nine against teams with a winning overall mark.

For whatever reason, Coors Field seems to agree with Gray. The Rockies have managed wins in 10 of his past 12 outings, while going a very impressive 4-1 in his past five against NL West foes, 5-1 in his past six starts at home and 7-1 over his past eight against teams with a winning overall record. They're also 10-4 in his past 14 starts at Coors against tems with a winning overall mark. For the Rockies, they're 12-5 in the past 17 vs. LHP, while going 7-3 in the past 10 inside the division. They're also 13-6 in the past 19 at home against southpaws, too.

Looking Ahead

Wednesday, Sept. 12

Indians RHP Carlos Carrasco and Rays LHP Blake Snell will square off in the series finale in a very good pitching matchup. The under is 5-1 in Cleveland's past six on the road against southpaws, while going 6-2-1 in their past nine overall against lefties. The under is also 12-5-1 in Carrasco's past 18 starts overall against teams with a winning overall record. The over is 4-1 in Tampa's past five home games vs. RHP, while going 4-1 in Snell's past five at home against teams with a winning record. However, the under is 7-2-1 in the past 10 starts by Snell, and 4-0-1 in his past five against AL Central foes. The under is 6-2-1 in the past nine meetings between these teams heading into Wednesday's game, while gong 8-1 in the past nine meetings in St. Petersburg.

The Padres and Mariners do battle at Safeco Field in a battle of southpaws Joey Lucchesi and Wade LeBlanc. The under is 4-1 in Lucchesi's past five road contests, while going 4-1 in his past five away from home against teams with a winning overall record. In addition, the under is 12-5-1 in the past 18 for San Diego against AL West foes. The under is also 4-0-1 in the past five interleague road games, while going 6-1 in the past seven against teams with a winning overall mark. However, the over is 5-2 in the rookie's past seven overall. For Seattle, the under is a perfect 5-0 in the past five outings, and 5-0 in their past five at home, too. Over the past 30 at Safeco for the Mariners, the under is 20-9-1 against southpaws. The under is 7-3 in his past 10 starts overall, and 6-2 in the past eight against teams with a losing overall mark, too. In this series, the over is 5-2-1 in the past eight meetings, but one of those unders was on Tuesday night.

Yankees RHP Luis Severino and Twins RHP Jake Odorizzi will square off at Target Field. It's been all about the over lately with Severino on the hill. The over is 10-2 in his past 12 starts, while going 16-5 in the past 21 starts against AL Central foes and 5-2 in his past seven on the road. In addition, the over is 5-1 in New York's past six against Central clubs, and 5-1 in the past six against teams with a losing overall record. For Minnesota, the under is 5-1 in Odorizzi's past six starts overall, but the over is 4-0 in the past four against AL East clubs. The over is also 7-1 in the past eight meetings in this series, while going 15-6-2 in the past 23 battles at Target Field.

Streaking and Slumping Starting Pitchers

Streaking: Wade LeBlanc, Seattle Mariners (8-3, 3.56 ERA, $765)

Although the Mariners are in a bit of a tailspin in the American League West, it hasn't been because of Wade LeBlanc's work on the mound. The crafty lefty is 8-3 with a 3.56 ERA for the season, but over his last three starts he's been even better with a team win/loss record of 2-1 and an ERA of 0.47 (only one run allowed in 19 innings of work).

LeBlanc and the Mariners are -150 home favorites this evening against Joey Lucchesi and the San Diego Padres.

Slumping: Andrew Cashner, Baltimore Orioles (4-14, 4.89 ERA, $-727)

Things haven't exactly gone the Baltimore Orioles' way in 2018, and their starting pitching can certainly been one of the blaming points. Veteran starting pitcher Andrew Cashner can absorb some of that blame with a team win/loss record of 8-19 and an ERA of 4.89 for the full season. He's been especially bad in his last four outings with a team win/loss of 0-4, an ERA of 5.87, and a WHIP of 1.8261.

Cashner and the O's are +165 underdogs at home this evening against Liam Hendriks and the Oakland Athletics.

Early Offense With Guccione?

Chris Guccione will be calling balls and strikes this afternoon in the first game on today's betting board between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Cincinnati Reds at Great American Ball Park. Guccione is the top Over umpire in Major League Baseball this season with an Over record of 18-5 (78.26 percent) and has cashed Over tickets in nine of his last 10 games behind the plate.

The total for this afternoon is current at 8.5 or 9, depending on your book, but either number should be a safe Over wager.

The Price Is Right

The Toronto Blue Jays and the Boston Red Sox will play the second game of their three-game series at Fenway Park this evening. The Sox took Game 1 by a score of 7-2 and we are expecting much more of the same tonight.

Boston has taken down 11 of the last 13 meetings with Toronto and in those 11 victories they have covered the -1.5 runline every time, with an average margin of victory of 3.54 runs.

With Jays starter Aaron Sanchez still re-learning how to pitch and Red Sox hurler David Price enjoying a tremendous season - especially at home where he has a team win/loss record of 11-3 to go along with an ERA of 3.08 and a WHIP of 1.09 - take the Sox on the -1.5 runline at -130 and sprinkle on the alternative runline of -2.5 at +120.

Storm coronation only a matter of time

SEATTLE (AP) If history is any indicator, the WNBA Finals are already over.

That may not be a fair assessment to make about the Washington Mystics, who head back home facing a 2-0 deficit to the Seattle Storm in the best-of-five series, and nearly pulled off a split in Seattle before falling short 75-73 in Game 2 on Sunday.

But the history of teams that have faced a 2-0 deficit since the league went to a best-of-five format in 2005 doesn't paint an optimistic picture for the Mystics. Four times before, the higher seed has swept the first two games at home. In all four occasions the series ended in Game 3.

''We feel really good, we feel really positive. We're going to be better,'' Washington guard Kristi Toliver said after Game 2. ''We were better from the day before. We're going to be better when we get home, and we're going to knock down shots.''

Whether it happens in a sweep or not, Seattle has positioned itself to join the elite of WNBA franchises. Seattle could become just the sixth franchise in league history to win three or more titles and join the defunct Houston Comets as the only franchise to have never lost a Finals appearance. The Comets were four-for-four before folding after the 2008 season.

Seattle is on the cusp of being three-for-three in the Finals, all of them with Sue Bird at the helm. Her running mate for Seattle's first two titles was Lauren Jackson. Now it's league MVP Breanna Stewart, who had an MVP-type performance in Game 2.

''For somebody who consistently has presence and consistently wants the ball and consistently is winning your team basketball games that's an MVP. ... In all honesty, she's been showing it all season,'' Bird said.

There's still a lot for Washington to overcome when it returns home for Game 3 on Wednesday night. After getting blown out in Game 1, the Mystics had a chance to get out of Seattle with a split, only to watch the Storm rally in the fourth quarter behind Stewart.

Seattle made a point of making sure Stewart got her hands on the ball in the fourth quarter. She made both of her shot attempts, took six free throws, grabbed two rebounds and had two steals in the fourth quarter alone, when Seattle outscored Washington 17-12.

Meanwhile, the Mystics couldn't figure out how to find Elena Delle Donne. Yes, she's not at 100 percent playing with a bone bruise in her left knee, but the absence of Delle Donne in the fourth quarter was a major factor in Game 2. She had just one shot attempt, no rebounds, no free throws in the final 10 minutes.

Seattle coach Dan Hughes said it was a focus from the outset of the game to get Stewart as many touches as possible.

''Your chances, your analytics for success with Breanna Stewart catching the ball twice is good, and I don't even know the exact number, but I've watched enough tape to know,'' Hughes said.

Washington coach Mike Thibault was annoyed with several things after Game 2, most dealing with officiating.

His opening statement noted the free throw difference between Stewart and Delle Donne (14 to 3), and an apparent non-call on Washington's next-to-last possession where Bird knocked the ball from Toliver as she drove the baseline. The scramble for the loose ball led to a jump ball that Seattle won and ended Washington's chance to escape the Pacific Northwest with a split.

''Obviously, it's really frustrating to not come away with the win, but we were able to see a lot of things, and we get to build on it for these next three games,'' Delle Donne said.

Play on: UNDER 7½ -120

Wednesday MLB Free play. My selection is on the 'under' between Washington and Philadelphia at 7:05 pm et on Wednesday.
I'll back the 'under' at Citizens Bank Park on Wednesday night.
Nationals starter Stephen Strasburg hasn't exactly been lights out since returning to the rotation following another injury, but has held his own over his last three starts, giving up just six earned runs in 17 2/3 innings of work. In his last five starts here in Philadelphia he has given up just seven earned runs in 33 2/3 innings pitched. The 'under' is 5-1 in Strasburg's last six outings against the Phillies.
Aaron Nola will counter for Philadelphia. He has worked at least into the sixth inning in each of his last eight starts. Note that he has given up two earned runs or less in six of those eight outings. In Nola's last three starts against Washington he has allowed a grand total of two earned runs on 14 hits over 22 2/3 innings of work. The 'under' is 6-1 in his last seven starts overall.
While both teams have been putting runs on the board with some consistency over the last week or so, I see this as an ideal pitching matchup to put a stop to that. Both clubs have trended to the 'under' overall this season. Take the under (8*).

10* FREE MLB PICK (Phillies -131)
I'll take my chances here with the Phillies at home with ace Aaron Nola on the mound. It's do or die for Philadelphia right now. After losing both games in yesterday's double-header the Phillies have now lost 4 straight and are just 2-8 in their last 10. They are 6.5-games back of the Braves in the NL East and 6.5-games back of the Cardinals for the final Wild Card spot. Nola is just the guy to have on the mound to get them back on track. He's 9-1 with a 2.21 ERA and 0.993 WHIP in 14 home starts (12-2 team record). He's also owned the Nationals' in his 4 starts against them this season. In those 4 starts, Nola has allowed a mere 5 runs on 18 hits in 28 2/3 innings of work. Give me the Phillies -131!

Chase Anderson has been at his best on the road this season, going 4-4 with a 2.89 ERA and 1.10 WHIP in 13 road starts. Kyle Hendricks has been very beatable this year at 11-10 with a 3.71 ERA through 29 starts. Anderson is 4-4 with a 2.91 ERA and 0.99 WHIP in 10 lifetime starts against the Cubs. He has yielded just 3 earned runs in 20 innings in his 3 starts against the Cubs in 2018. Hendricks has yielded 8 earned runs in 18 innings in his 3 starts against the Brewers in 2018. In August Carlos Rodon started five games in the month against teams like Tampa, Cleveland and the Yankees and got the win in three of them. In the other two games he recieved a no decision despite pitching fantastic. He struggled a little in two September starts against The Red Sox and Angels but that's to be expected with those two offenses.
Due to those losses we're getting a little value here against the Royals and pitcher Eric Skoglund who is making his second start since his three month stint on the DL. Rodon has another strong performance and the Sox win. Take Chicago On The Money Line.

Jack’s Free Pick Wednesday: Chicago White Sox -126
The White Sox should be motivated for a victory here Wednesday night. They have lost seven straight and will be looking to avoid the sweep after losing the first two games of this series to the Royals. They have a big advantage on the mound tonight.
Carlos Rodon has been a huge bright spot for the White Sox this season. He is 6-5 with a 3.11 ERA and 1.083 WHIP in 16 starts. Rodon is also 2-2 with a 3.90 ERA in five career starts against Kansas City.
The Royals will counter with Eric Skoglund, who will be making his first start since late May and will clearly be on a pitch count. Skoglund is 1-5 with a 6.70 ERA and 1.389 WHIP in nine starts this season.
The White Sox are 4-0 in Rodon’s last four road starts. Chicago is 11-5 in its last 16 road games, including 5-1 in its last six road games vs. a left-handed starter. The Royals are 0-4 in Skoglund’s last four starts. Kansas City is 10-42 in its last 52 during Game 3 of a series. Bet the White Sox Wednesday.
